Tomato paste prices surge despite falling fresh tomato costs

0

Despite a decline in fresh tomato prices, the cost of tomato paste continues to rise, highlighting a divergence in price trends within Ghana’s food market.

This comes as new data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) shows a drop in food inflation, from 28.1% in February 2025 to 26.5% in March 2025.

According to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) Report, tomato paste recorded the highest month-on-month price increase of 8.1% among the 25 key food items in Ghana’s national food basket.

This is significant given that overall month-on-month inflation for March 2025 stood at just 0.2%. In contrast, fresh tomatoes saw a price deflation of 4.9%, reflecting lower costs at the retail level.

Other items that recorded notable price increases in March 2025 include sea-caught fish, which saw a 3.2% rise, and hotel accommodation, which increased by 2.4%.

Looking at a broader set of 307 items, independent of their weight in the inflation calculation, ginger continues to top year-on-year price increases, recording a surge of 137.4%. Fresh okro followed with a price increase of 94.6%, while beans saw a 75.6% rise over the past year.

It is possible for Justice Baffoe Bonnie to implicate the current Chief Justice—Ekow Assafuah

News Hub Creator11h

A recent statement by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Old Tafo, Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has sparked heated discussions about possible power struggles within Ghana’s judiciary. Speaking on Oyerepa Radio, Assafuah suggested that former Justice Baffoe Bonnie might have an interest in implicating the current Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, as a means to facilitate her removal and advance his own standing.

“It is possible for Justice Baffoe Bonnie to implicate the current Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo since he will benefit from the removal of the current Chief Justice,” Assafuah claimed. His remarks have since gained traction, with legal analysts and political observers weighing in on the implications of such an assertion.

Justice Baffoe Bonnie, a long-serving Supreme Court judge, was appointed by President John Agyekum Kufuor in 2008 and is currently the senior-most judge on the bench. Chief Justice Torkornoo, who was sworn into office in 2023, holds a position of authority over the judiciary. Given this dynamic, Assafuah’s claims have raised questions about internal judicial politics and possible succession interests.

While neither Justice Baffoe Bonnie nor Chief Justice Torkornoo has responded to the allegations, legal experts have urged caution, emphasizing the need for evidence before making such serious claims. Some have warned that baseless accusations could undermine public confidence in the judiciary, while others have called for greater scrutiny of power structures within the Supreme Court.

The unfolding debate has brought renewed attention to the transparency and integrity of Ghana’s judicial system. As speculation continues, many are keenly watching whether this controversy will lead to further revelations or fade amid ongoing political discourse.

AGI, Chamber of Telcos commend govt over removal of E-levy

0

The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) has welcomed the removal of the 1% Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), stating that it will boost digital financial transactions and reduce the cost of doing business in Ghana.

The CEO of AGI, Seth Twum Akwaboah, speaking to Citi Business News at MTN House in Accra during the first anniversary of the telecommunication company’s CEO in office, commended the government for its decision, highlighting its positive impact on businesses, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Seventy-five percent of our members are SMEs, and for them, digital transactions are essential. Any additional cost discourages their use. The removal of the levy will not only cut costs but also encourage more businesses to embrace digital financial services and electronic money transfers.

“It’s a commitment the President made, and now that it has been fulfilled, we look forward to seeing its impact on business growth”, the CEO of AGI said.

Meanwhile, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, stressed the broader economic benefits of eliminating the E-Levy.

“With this removal, we expect an increase in both the volume and value of digital transactions. This growth will boost profitability for financial institutions, leading to higher corporate tax revenues for the government, “he noted.

He added: “Additionally, more digital transactions will reduce the cost of printing physical currency, benefiting the Bank of Ghana. It will also generate valuable data for policymakers to enhance fiscal and monetary strategies,”

Ing. Dr. Ashigbey also noted that the removal of the E-Levy aligns with the government’s financial inclusion strategy, fostering a more digitized economy while easing financial burdens on businesses and consumers alike.

President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday April 2, 2025 assented to a series of legislative bills meant to abolish several taxes, including the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), Betting Tax, and Emissions Tax.

This move aligns with the government’s commitment to alleviating the financial burden on Ghanaians.

Under-17 AFCON: Defending champs start with a win, Cote d’Iviore rout CAR

Senegal kicked off their title defence with a 1-0 victory over Gambia in a West African derby at the Ben M’Hamed El Abdi Stadium on Tuesday, April 1.

Ibrahima Sow scored the only goal of the game on seven minutes to secure all three points for the Young Lions of Teranga which places them second in Group C.

Tunisia moved to the top of the group on goal difference after cruising to a 3-0 win against Somalia at the same venue later on in the evening.

Fedi Tayechi (6′, 58′) broke the deadlock early on and completed the scoring in the second half, with Anisse Saidi having doubled the Eagles of Carthage’s lead just before half-time.

Meanwhile, Mali began their AFCON campaign on a positive note after beating Angola 2-1 at the Berrechid Municipal Stadium.

Goals in each half from Ndjicoura Bomba (11′) and Soungalo Coulibaly (74′) handed the Eagles maximum points, with Jayden Medonnell (45+3′) having restored parity on the stroke of half-time.

Ivory Coast signalled their intentions in Morocco with a 6-1 rout of Central African Republic at the same venue later on that night.

Alynho Haidara (4′, 13′, 41′ PEN, 55′ PEN) registered the first hat-trick of the tournament to set up victory, while Mobio Franck Koidio (21′) and Yannis Touali (88′) also got in on the act. Anan Jefferson Otto’s reply on the stroke of half-time ended up nothing more than a consolation for the Wild Beasts, who suffered the heaviest defeat of the group stages to date.

The Little Elephants went top of Group D on goal difference ahead of their West African rivals to round out matchday 1 of the group stages.—africanfootball

Ghana likely to secure IMF waivers amid fiscal discipline

0

Economist Professor Patrick Asuming believes Ghana is likely to obtain waivers on some of its performance targets as the country enters the second day of discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the fourth review of its Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme.

He attributes this to the government’s demonstrated commitment to fiscal discipline.

The ongoing review is a critical step in Ghana’s engagement with the IMF, as the country seeks to stay on track with its economic recovery program. Securing waivers would provide some flexibility in meeting program targets, particularly in the face of economic challenges.

Speaking to Citi Business News, Professor Patrick Asuming suggested the IMF will likely accommodate some of the missed targets as the new administration is new.

“We definitely would miss some targets. No question about that. The period for this ends 31st December. We missed some of the performance criteria. We definitely missed the inflation target. We probably missed some of the fiscal targets in particular the deficit target.

“I think we also missed a couple of structural targets. But I think as a new government, probably the IMF will be willing to cut them some slack.

“The government seems aggressive in trying to implement it fiscal programs. I have seen that they have passed the Public Financial Management Act,” he said.

Professor Patrick Asuming has also urged the government to maintain transparency in its negotiations on VAT reforms.

“We don’t want a situation where they go and agree something with the IMF when the Ghanaian academia as well as the business community is not fully informed,” he added.

Illegal miners [L] and PNP Leader, Janet Nabla Illegal miners [L] and PNP Leader, Janet Nabla

The Presidential candidate of the People’s National Party (PNP) for the 2024 election, Janet Nabla, has said that the Almighty God becomes happy whenever an illegal miner, popularly known as a galamseyer, dies.

Speaking in an interview with Rainbow Radio, monitored by GhanaWeb, the firebrand politician described galamseyers as murderers who are killing Ghanaians through illegal mining activities. She stated that one should not feel sorry over the death of a galamseyer.

“Galamseyers are murderers, and they are trying to murder Ghanaians. This is a war between us and the galamseyers, and yet we have the military who are not doing anything. One day, we can kill ten galamseyers, and the rest of them will flee from the galamsey sites.

“This is a serious matter. Do you know the number of people galamseyers have killed? If a galamseyer dies, God is happy, and He claps in excitement. This is because a galamseyer is a wicked person.”

Janet Nabla challenged President Mahama to appoint her to lead the fight against galamsey if he wants to stop the menace.

“If President Mahama wants to stop galamsey, I dare him to put me in charge of the fight against illegal mining. I am telling President Mahama that I avail myself. He should not pay me a dime but should allow me full control of all necessary security apparatus, and then we will see what happens. The NDC government is not fighting galamsey. When I am put in charge of the fight against galamsey, I will do what the Mahama government is not ready to do,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Convenor for the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, has urged the government to declare a state of national emergency to address the surge in illegal mining activities in the country, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking during an interview on Joy News, monitored by GhanaWeb on Monday, March 31, 2025, he stressed the need for the government to take decisive action against illegal mining, including the declaration of a state of emergency to safeguard the environment.

“So, for all of these forest reserves, you need to declare a state of emergency. A lot of our water bodies have been diverted or blocked, and there are going to be major landslides, mudslides, and flooding in some of these communities because of the way we have treated the water bodies.

“When the rains start coming in, the lives of Ghanaians will be at stake. I believe that a state of emergency will give the President special powers to work together with the Attorney General and the Chief Justice to set up specialized fast-track courts. The NDC talks about a 24-hour economy; these courts should be running 24 hours,” he stated.

Man accused of fraud freed due to lack of evidence

Samuel Twumasi, a 37-year-old driver, broke down in tears after an Accra Circuit Court discharged him of conspiracy and two counts of defrauding by false pretences.

During the court proceedings, Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, the lead prosecutor, informed the court that the police lacked sufficient evidence to prosecute Twumasi.

Following this submission, the presiding judge, Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, ordered his discharge.

As Twumasi stepped out of the dock, he wept uncontrollably. Despite efforts by some police officers to console him, urging, “Barima nsu” (meaning “Men don’t cry”), he could not hold back his tears.

His emotional reaction was partly because he had remained in police custody, unable to meet the bail conditions set by the court.

Twumasi had been on trial alongside Isaac Danso, a 38-year-old communication consultant, who faced the same charges. However, Danso was not present in court when Twumasi was discharged.

The prosecution revealed that Danso had been re-arrested and was currently in police custody at Kasoa. With Twumasi’s release, Danso would now face trial alone.

Danso is accused of collecting $4,000 from Adinan Lamidi under the pretext of securing a Canadian visa. Additionally, he allegedly took $2,000 from Marwan Mustapha for the same purpose but failed to deliver.

The accused persons were initially arrested on September 15, 2024.

MTN Ghana awaits govt’s decision on 5G participation

0

MTN Ghana has announced that it will await the government’s decision on its potential participation in the Next Gen Infraco (NGIC) consortium, which is spearheading the nationwide rollout of the 5G network.

The 5G deployment is already underway in key cities such as Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi, with plans to extend coverage nationwide within the next two years.

Currently, AT Ghana Limited has joined NGIC’s open-access platform, while Telecel Ghana is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations. MTN’s involvement remains uncertain, fueling speculation within the telecom industry.

Speaking on his first anniversary as CEO of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett stated that the company is awaiting guidance from the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel George.

“We’ve had engagements with NGIC and discussions on the matter. Regardless of how the 5G rollout unfolds, MTN will be involved in some capacity—whether through NGIC, a hybrid model, or other approaches. We are open to being part of the rollout and collaborating as partners. For now, we will wait for direction from the minister,” Blewett said.

Additionally, Blewett reassured the public about concerns surrounding the transition to 5G, emphasizing MTN Ghana’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and efficient implementation of the new network technology.

Over $1bn invested in customer service in five years

0

MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, has revealed that the company has invested over $1 billion in improving customer service delivery over the past five years.

This, he said, underscores MTN’s ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction. He also announced plans for additional significant financial investments in the coming year.

“We are here because of our customers,” Blewett stated. “We want you to have an exceptional experience, not a poor network. MTN’s success today is a result of our commitment to investing over $200 million annually in our network.

“By the end of this year, we will have invested $1 billion over the past five years. And we’re planning to invest even more to continue enhancing our services.”

Blewett also addressed the rising issue of mobile money fraud, urging customers to stay vigilant.

He shared a personal experience from his first month at MTN, when he became the target of a mobile money scam.

“In my first month here, I received a call from a fraudster. He claimed I had made a transfer and tried to manipulate me into believing it. I decided to keep him on the phone for about 15 minutes, hoping that by doing so, he wouldn’t scam someone else.

“Eventually, I told him I was the CEO of MTN, and he didn’t believe me. He got upset and hung up. But this experience serves as a reminder of how important it is to stay vigilant.”

Blewett further assured customers that MTN is actively working on solutions to address mobile money fraud.

“We are constantly asking ourselves how we can improve. We are applying the same customer-first mentality to tackle these issues and are exploring better solutions for our users.”

Akufo-Addo’s ‘power grabbing antics’ caused NPP’s 2024 defeat -Chairman Dollar

0

Second Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Greater Accra , Eric Nartey Yeboah also known as Chairman Dollar says the party lost the 2024 general elections due to some poor decisions of former President Akufo-Addo.

According to him, the decision of former President Akufo-Addo to centralize power within his inner circle is responsible for their overwhelming defeat in the December 7, 2024 elections.

Trump announces new tarrifs, Ghana hit by 10% import tax

0

U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled an ambitious set of tariffs, including a 34% levy on imports from China and a 20% tax on goods from the European Union, signalling a dramatic intensification of global trade tensions.

These sweeping measures also impact Ghana, which will face a 10% baseline import tax.

Speaking from the Rose Garden, Trump declared a national economic emergency, justifying the tariffs as a means to revitalise domestic manufacturing and end what he referred to as decades of economic exploitation by foreign nations.

“Our country has been looted, pillaged, raped, and plundered by other nations,” Trump stated. “Taxpayers have been ripped off for more than 50 years. But that will not happen anymore.”

The newly imposed tariffs, introduced without Congressional approval under the 1977 International Emergency Powers Act, target numerous countries with significant trade surpluses with the U.S. Ghana, along with other affected nations, will be subjected to a 10% import tax across the board, adding pressure to global supply chains.

Economic Fallout and Recession Fears

The announcement has already sparked a sharp sell-off on U.S. stock markets as investors brace for an economic slowdown. Analysts predict that rising prices on essential goods such as housing, cars, and clothing will hurt both domestic and global economies.

Economists are concerned that the tariffs could usher in a global recession, with Olu Sonola of Fitch Ratings warning that the average U.S. tariff rate is set to rise from 2.5% in 2024 to 22%.

“Many countries will likely fall into a recession,” Sonola cautioned. “If these tariff levels remain for an extended period, most economic forecasts will need to be revised drastically.”

Comparisons to the Great Depression

Critics have drawn parallels with the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930, which exacerbated the Great Depression by triggering a global trade war.

Scott Lincicome and Colin Grabow of the Cato Institute have warned that Trump’s policies could have similar devastating effects.

“With today’s announcement, U.S. tariffs will reach levels not seen since the Smoot-Hawley Act, which contributed to the global economic downturn during the Great Depression,” they noted.

Global Backlash and Retaliatory Measures

Trump’s new tariffs are set to affect key trading partners worldwide, with the notable exception of Canada and Mexico, which will continue to be governed by existing USMCA trade agreements. China, in particular, faces a double burden: in addition to the 34% general tariff, it will also incur a 20% penalty tax for its role in fentanyl production.

The European Union and other impacted countries, including Ghana, are expected to retaliate with their own tariffs, further escalating trade tensions.

Despite this, Trump remains resolute, claiming that the new measures will generate hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue and restore fairness to global trade.

Despite warnings from Republican lawmakers, especially those from agricultural and border states, the White House has shown no signs of reconsidering its strategy.

This stance has sparked concerns over the potential long-term effects on Ghana and other developing nations that depend on trade with the U.S. for their economic stability.

E-Levy finally scrapped – Ghana Business News

0

President John Mahama assents to bills including the E-Levy Bill.

The tax Ghanaians have been looking forward to being removed since the change of government after the December 2024 elections has finally been removed.

Yesterday March 2, 2025, the President, John Mahama assented the Electronic Transfer Levy (Repeal) Bill 2025 into law, effectively removing the tax many Ghanaians saw as regressive.

The tax was introduced in 2022, despite obviously being unpopular, and strongly opposed by the general public and stakeholders who among other factors believed it would place additional financial burden on Ghanaians and would effectively curtail the gains made in financial inclusion, the government of the day was adamant.

In March 2025, Parliament approved the Electronic Transfer Levy Repeal Bill 2025, which effectively abolished the digital tax placed on electronic financial transactions, including Mobile Money transactions, bank transfers and inward remittances.

At the beginning, it was charging 1.75 per cent on transactions, before being revised to one per cent.

Some Ghanaians have described it as ‘most senseless tax’, and its removal brings a huge relief to citizens, and puts their money back into their pockets.

Rev Owusu-Bempah breaks silence over alleged prophecy regarding Vice President’s death

The leader of the Glorious Word Power Church, Reverend Isaac Owusu-Bempah, has vehemently denied prophesying the death of Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

Social media has been buzzing with a video in which the controversial man of God, while delivering a sermon in his church, allegedly prophesied the death of the vice president. Some social media users posted an image of Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, suggesting that she was the one the prophet was referring to.

However, it has emerged that the prophecy was made around six years ago, and he was actually referring to the current Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who later took ill while in office and was flown out of the country for treatment.

Commenting on the issue, Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah described the claims about his prophecy as outright falsehood.

He expressed confusion as to why someone would deliberately twist the facts for political gain.

“I don’t understand why someone would deliberately lie about me. The issue I was referring to occurred about six years ago. I was merely corroborating what Nana Oppong had said in an interview with Okay FM. But someone deliberately cut that part of my speech and made it seem as though I was talking about the current Vice President, then posted it on social media to create disaffection towards me. People are insulting me all over the place over a statement I never made. I just don’t understand this.”

“I did not prophesy that the vice president is going to die. At the time, I hadn’t even heard that the vice president was ill. It was my son Agyeman Prempeh who called and said he’d heard that I had prophesied the vice president’s death. I told him no, that is untrue. It was only later that I heard that our vice president was unwell. So, I am disturbed that people have falsely accused me of prophesying the death of the vice president and are verbally assaulting me all over the place,” he said.

The presidency confirmed that the Vice President had fallen ill and received medical treatment on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, stated that the Vice President experienced a sudden illness after work hours on Friday.

“The Vice President, Her Excellency Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, received treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre on Saturday due to a sudden illness that occurred after work on Friday, March 28, 2025,” the statement read.

The communiqué further stated that although she had received treatment at UGMC, she would seek further medical attention abroad based on expert recommendations.

“Based on expert medical opinion, she will seek further care abroad,” it added.

Agya Koo Fires Back at Daughter’s Allegations—Reveals the Truth

0

Veteran Ghanaian actor Agya Koo has strongly refuted claims made by his daughter, Maame Brago, that he has been unsupportive of her dream to pursue a career in music. The Kumawood legend, in a candid interview with One Ghana TV, made it clear that his intentions were never to stifle her ambitions but rather to ensure she had a solid educational foundation before venturing into the entertainment industry.

According to YEN, Agya Koo stated, “It is not like I do not support her because she is a girl. Also, I wanted her to go to school. My child is very good when it comes to speaking English.”

The actor explained that he was aware of Maame Brago’s musical aspirations years ago and even confronted her mother about it. However, he was displeased to learn that his ex-wife had been secretly taking their daughter to music-related events and interviews without informing him.

“She started a long time ago, so when I got the information, I told her mother that it was something I did not like,” he revealed.

Agya Koo, who is also a musician, expressed disappointment that his daughter did not approach him directly for guidance. He emphasized that if she had, he could have mentored her and helped her navigate the music industry effectively.

Brago, in a 2024 interview with blogger De God Son, alleged that her stepfather had been more supportive of her music career than her biological father. The claim stirred public reactions, with many criticizing Agya Koo for not standing behind his daughter’s passion.

However, the actor insists that his stance was not about discouraging her but ensuring that she prioritizes her education before entertainment. He noted that his daughter is turning 17 soon and should complete her schooling with distinction before fully diving into music.

Agya Koo also disclosed that he has been in constant communication with Brago and has even consulted her teachers about additional subjects to support her academic growth. However, he alleged that her mother opposed these efforts.

The veteran actor’s response aims to set the record straight, making it clear that he is not against Maame Brago’s dreams but wants her to be well-equipped for success.

We will not allow them to arrest any member of the Minority, it will not happen — Ntim Fordjour vows

0

According to a report from GhanaWeb, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has declared that attempts by the government to suppress the Minority will not succeed.

He emphasized the determination of the Minority to continue their work without intimidation.

Speaking during an interview on Adom FM on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, he criticized President John Dramani Mahama’s directive instructing security agencies to collaborate with him regarding reports about a suspicious flight allegedly linked to drug trafficking.

The MP expressed that the Minority would not succumb to fear tactics, maintaining their resolve to hold the government accountable.

He argued that the president’s decision to make a public statement on social media about the issue was unnecessary, suggesting instead that the president should have directly sought answers from the security agencies.

Ntim Fordjour explained that he had already provided sufficient information about the flight and did not see the need to be summoned for further questioning.

He called on the president to direct the relevant agencies to investigate the matter and disclose their findings publicly.

He also warned against any attempts by the government to use security agencies to arrest members of the Minority, vowing to resist such actions.

“We will not allow them to arrest any member of the Minority, it will not happen,” he stated.

The Assin South MP reaffirmed the commitment of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus to demand transparency and accountability from the government, particularly on the issue of the mysterious flight.

In his remarks, Ntim Fordjour urged the security agencies to inform the public about the details of the flight, including whether it was still in the country, what it carried, and what it left with.

He stressed that the information he had already shared was sufficient for the agencies to act upon, and further discussions could take place if additional details were required.

Some Ghanaians have descended on the CEO of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, following his comments that the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) cannot be scrapped immediately without regulatory approval, even after President John Dramani Mahama’s assent.

Speaking to the media on April 2, 2025, Stephen Blewett explained that the abolition of the E-Levy cannot take immediate effect as it must go through regulatory processes before implementation.

His statement comes after President Mahama signed legislative bills into law, officially abolishing several taxes, including the E-Levy, Betting Tax, and Emissions Tax.

Following Blewett’s remarks, many Ghanaians took to social media to express their disagreement, arguing that the new law should take effect immediately.

“Totally nonsense. What does he mean? Are those regulators above the law?” a user said.

“If they deduct, they’d have to refund,” another added.

“When it was introduced, it took effect immediately, but now they’re delaying? This country ehh hmm, “one other lamented.

“The Akufo-Addo government introduced the E-Levy, and MTN implemented it right away. Mahama has abolished it, Parliament has approved it, and the President has signed it. MTN must stop immediately. Any pesewa deducted must be refunded!”

“MTN are thieves, from data bundles to MoMo transfers!”

“So is it going to take a year to do the needful after the President has assented to the bill? This is daylight robbery, Mr. CEO of MTN.”

“Someone should give the MTN CEO a strong warning!”

What do you value the most in friendships?

0

Although friendships are a valued aspect of life, some characteristics give them their actual significance.

Trust is a crucial component that promotes loyalty and permits open conversation.

Another one is support, which promotes stability and encouragement, and to ensure a solid link between you, both friends must put in time and effort to keep the relationship going. At the end of the day, friendships are about more than simply difficult times; they’re also about sharing laughter and joy.

So, what do you value the most in friendships?

According to, “Communication in friendships does more than just clear the air. It strengthens our connections and deepens our relationships. A study from Brigham Young University showed that friends who communicate effectively are 50% less likely to feel lonely.”

Psychology Today claims that integrity, caring, and trustworthiness are the three categories into which essential friendship attributes fall. Relationships depend on being trustworthy, which includes being honest, dependable, loyal, and able to trust people. Being dependable, impartial, and communicating openly are all components of integrity. happy listening skills, empathy, nonjudgmental behavior, and support throughout both happy and terrible times are all examples of caring attributes.

Self-awareness, self-control, and an unwaveringly positive view of friends are necessary for these qualities. A disagreement with these characteristics could prevent the formation of deep, enduring friendships. To create wholesome, enduring friendships, personal qualities must be developed. By being aware of and accepting these characteristics, people can create wholesome, long-lasting relationships, the above source further explains.

It really pained you – King Paluta admits receiving money from Dr Bawumia

0

Ghanaian rapper King Paluta Ghanaian rapper King Paluta

Ghanaian rapper King Paluta has openly admitted receiving payment from former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during the 2024 election campaign season.

This comes following criticism over his recent comments about some social media influencers being paid to rally behind some music artistes.

The controversy began when King Paluta, in a Twitter (now X) post on April 2, 2025, expressed disappointment after noticing a previously supportive fan suddenly withdraw endorsement for his Artiste of the Year (AOTY) bid.

Some quickly reminded him of his own political affiliations, with one user responding, “You took big money from politicians during elections and now complain about influencers taking money? This is how it works—you pay, you get served.”

In a surprising admission, Paluta confirmed receiving funds from Bawumia’s camp, replying, “The money I took from Baweezy deɛ, e really pain boys.”

The rapper had been frequently spotted at NPP campaign rallies alongside Dr Bawumia during the 2024 elections, fueling speculation about financial incentives behind his appearances.

The revelation comes as Paluta remains a top contender for Artiste of the Year at the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards, with his chart-topping hits like “Aseda” and “Makoma” dominating airwaves throughout 2024.

‘Middle East origins’ cause harm on Regimanuel and Manet residents

0

Residents of the Regimanuel and Manet Estates at East Airport are alarmed over the unlawful occupation of a road reservation by foreign nationals, known to be ‘middle east origins’.

The establishment of Beirut Café, a coffee shop near Flowerpot Road, has triggered safety concerns, social disturbances, and increased traffic risks in the locality which is known to be a serene environment away from such acts.

According to residents, the café, which is illegally positioned too close to the road, has become a hotspot for crime and misconduct, including the unnecessary revving of powerful motorbikes as part of their nuisance activities.

The General Manager of Regimanuel Estates, Mr. Michael Owusu, expressed deep frustration over the situation, describing it as a serious threat to the community’s well-being.

“There is a very big problem that is unfortunately festering and rearing its ugly head within the confines of Flowerpot Road in Accra. Right at the junction where one would alight to enter the East Airport Regimanuel Estate, some unscrupulous people have established Beirut Café, a coffee café, and its proximity to the road is a walking illegality or a living illegality. This is because that portion is supposed to be a road reservation, which should not warrant or allow anyone to put up a structure so close to the road,” Owusu lamented.

Residents say the once-peaceful Flowerpot Road has now turned into a chaotic zone. The increased human and vehicular activities have made the area unsafe, leaving homeowners regretting the development that once brought them convenience.

Mr. Owusu added, “Flowerpot, being this wonderful development that has opened up the whole transport system in the area, has now become a source of concern. Some people are even wishing it had never occurred because unscrupulous individuals are now taking advantage of the perceived traffic and openness that has resulted from the expansion of the road. They are engaging in behaviors that negatively affect the quality of life of the 568 homes in the Regimanuel Estates in the East Airport enclave”.

Residents report that the café has attracted illegal activities, including commercial sex workers and okada riders, leading to increased crime rates. More worrying, they say, is the high number of accidents occurring near the café due to its inappropriate location.

“Decent, hardworking people, individuals who have sacrificed for the country and are now in the twilight of their years, only want to relax and enjoy the small pension they have acquired and the small peace of mind they wish to establish. However, this edifice called Beirut Café has attracted all types of illicit behaviors, including ladies of the night, loitering Okada riders, and, worst of all, continuous accidents due to its location right within the road reservation at Flowerpot.”

The Homeowner’s Association has officially complained to the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) and even attended a meeting with the café owner, where it was revealed that the structure has no legal permit. However, despite this admission, no action has been taken to demolish or relocate it.

He further revealed, “I do not know if it is because there is currently a leadership vacuum, leaving no motivation to question whether someone has possibly been compromised in their position. No one knows. What we do know is that Beirut Café is a source of accidents due to its proximity to the road.

It is a concern because ladies of the night frequent the area. It is a great concern because there is increased traffic with no traffic management, affecting the quality of life of the citizens in this enclave. We are being disturbed by people who are not even Ghanaians. It is not fair”.

Dominic Boateng, President of Manet Estate also speaking over the refusal to get appropriate authorities to take off the untheorized edifice, he said, “after the construction of the road, I noticed that a café shop had been built. Motorists park their bikes there in large numbers. If you are not careful, you might hit someone while trying to get to TB Joshua junction, making this a serious problem for us. Every day, as the president of this estate, I am asked what I am doing about it. This café shop has become a major concern, attracting all kinds of bad behavior. I have personally experienced the impact, one young man nearly attacked me just because I told him to stop littering.

He added, “This establishment has drawn all sorts of undesirable characters to our once peaceful and quiet neighbourhood. What was once a serene place is now being invaded due to the presence of Beirut Café. Many elderly residents who used to enjoy peaceful morning strolls can no longer do so for fear of being harassed or attacked by okada riders and other miscreants.

“Recently, an elderly man was attacked by these motorists, and a house help from Manet Ville Estates was also assaulted. We never experienced such problems until this establishment was set up. Now, night workers and smokers have all gathered here because of it. I urge the government to come to our aid and restore security in this area. Since the owners of this establishment refuse to listen to our concerns, we will have no choice but to take legal action. We want the law to take its course.”

Leverage natural resources, inward remittances for BoG recapitalisation

0

Authorities should leverage the nation’s abundant natural resources base and growing inward remittance sector to recapitalise the Bank of Ghana (BoG) without unduly straining the national budget, according to financial expert Dr. Richmond Atuahene.

This recommendation comes as the central bank continues to grapple with a negative equity position following the domestic debt exchange programme (DDEP) in 2022 and 2023, when it was heavily exposed to government instruments.

In a paper titled ‘Bank of Ghana’s sustained negative capital and its implications on economy and potential solutions’, Dr. Atuahene suggested that despite attempts to minimise the losses as ‘technical’, which would not impact the BoG’s ‘core duties’, government, through the Ministry of Finance must prioritise recapitalising the BoG – which is estimated at GH¢53billion (approximately US$3.4billion).

He advocated innovative measures, including revising fiscal frameworks governing the natural resource sector and strengthening inward remittance regulations to bolster foreign exchange reserves.

“Government has limited fiscal space due to the country’s debt overhang and blocked access to both international and domestic markets,” he said.

“Leveraging Ghana’s natural resource wealth and the remittance market offers a viable method to recapitalise the Bank of Ghana without exacerbating budgetary pressures,” he added.

The banking consultant argued that relying solely on traditional options like asset transfers and profit suspensions may not be sufficient.

Dr. Atuahene’s recommendations align with broader guidance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In its latest report, the IMF outlined options for recapitalising the BoG in line with its programme parameters, including asset transfers and the use of programme-generated buffers.

“The urgency cannot be overstated. A well-capitalised central bank is essential for maintaining monetary policy independence and ensuring financial stability,” Dr. Atuahene cautioned.

A critical component of Dr. Atuahene’s proposal involves overhauling the prevailing natural resource fiscal regimes. He reasoned that existing legislation, including the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Act, 2016 (Act 919) and Minerals and Mining Act, 2019 (Act 995), should be revised to enable the state to capture greater value from its resource wealth.

He suggested adopting production-sharing or service-contract agreements, which would increase government’s share of resource revenues. This approach could allow the nation to leverage its gold and hydrocarbon reserves as collateral for raising capital.

“By pledging or collateralising natural resource deposits, government can attract the necessary capital without direct budgetary allocations,” Dr. Atuahene explained.

Additionally, he recommended engaging stakeholders in closed-door negotiations to explore options like sale-and-purchase agreements, debt-equity swaps and new ownership structures.

These measures, he noted, could provide the financial flexibility needed to stabilise the BoG’s balance sheet.

Beyond resource mobilisation, Dr. Atuahene highlighted the importance of harnessing growing remittance inflows to support recapitalisation efforts.

He called for a comprehensive review of the regulatory framework governing inward remittances to ensure compliance with the Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 723).

According to him, greater oversight of money transfer operators and fintech firms could help prevent the externalisation of remittance inflows, thereby increasing foreign exchange availability.

“A robust regulatory environment will not only capture more foreign currency but also reduce the risk of balance of payment crises,” he noted.

To streamline oversight, he proposes establishing a dedicated Inward Remittances Department at the Bank of Ghana. This department would be tasked with tracking and capturing all foreign exchange from remittances and ensuring compliance with relevant laws.

Dr. Atuahene pointed to Bangladesh as a model, where 90 percent to 95 percent of remittances are processed through formal banking channels.

“The Bank of Ghana could significantly improve its foreign exchange position by adopting a similar approach to Bangladesh,” he stated.

This, he suggested, would strengthen the country’s exchange rate management while enhancing the central bank’s financial position.

Given the limited fiscal space, Dr. Atuahene advocated innovative financing mechanisms such as diaspora bonds. These instruments, widely used by countries with significant overseas populations, could tap into Ghana’s global diaspora community to raise capital for BoG recapitalisation.

“Diaspora bonds present a unique opportunity to mobilise foreign currency from Ghanaians abroad while fostering national investment,” the banking veteran remarked.

Such an approach could complement other measures, providing a diversified funding base for the central bank’s recapitalisation.

While traditional methods – such as budgetary transfers, asset transfers and suspending profit distributions – are often the go-to solutions for central bank recapitalisation, Dr. Atuahene argued that these approaches alone will not suffice under the current fiscal constraints.

He suggested issuing interest-bearing government securities to the apex bank could provide an immediate capital boost. However, this approach effectively internalises the fiscal burden – further tightening the already constrained national budget.

“With government’s debt obligations and limited access to financial markets, innovative solutions are not just advisable – they are imperative,” he stressed.

Ghanaian Influencer Calls Out Nigerians Over Fake Support for Viral Star

Ghanaian content creator Nana Baffour, who first broke the news about Albert Ofosu Nketia’s deteriorating health, has provided an update on the viral sensation’s condition.

According to YEN, In a video shared on YouTube, Nana Baffour revealed that while numerous content creators—especially from Nigeria—have reached out about Albert’s plight, none have actually contributed financially to assist him.

“All those content creators from Nigeria who called saying you wanted to do a video—I did the video. But after the video, I have not heard from you guys,” Nana Baffour stated.

He further dismissed rumors that 50 million Naira had been donated, saying, “I want to say this, no content creator from Nigeria has sent money. They got mad at me, accusing me of not helping them to see the boy. That is not the case.”

The revelation has sparked reactions, with some online users urging influencers to step up and provide actual help rather than using Albert’s situation for engagement.

Already, a Nigerian content creator, @Don Marveltv, has appealed to his colleagues to support Albert after confirming that the young boy is genuinely ill.

Albert Ofosu Nketia became an internet sensation in 2023 after a viral video showed him dramatically switching from crying to laughing within seconds. His fame has since made him a recognizable figure on social media.

Netizens have weighed in on the situation, with mixed reactions:

– Prince Kay Billz: “Nana Baffour, don’t stress yourself. If help is meant to come, it will. Many people making excuses know the truth but just don’t have any help to offer.”

– Pablo Della: “I hope he gets the medical attention he needs.”

– Ama Afro Kwabi: “Support is not just about money. Let’s not make this only about financial donations.”

As Albert’s condition remains a concern, many hope that real assistance will arrive soon to support his well-being.

Kudus Shedded Tears For Kennedy Agyapong

0

Kennedy Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, recently shared his personal connection with Mohammed Kudus, the Ghanaian international footballer. The ex-legislator spoke about the bond he shares with Kudus during a donation event to a Muslim community on March 31, 2025, in Accra, which was held in celebration of Eid-al-Fitr. At this event, Agyapong donated 334 bags of rice to assist those in need during the festive season.

Agyapong expressed admiration for the sincerity of Muslims, emphasizing their commitment and loyalty. He noted, “The reason I hold Muslims in such high regard is because they are sincere. When they say they love you, they truly mean it.” He went on to recount a touching moment he shared with Kudus. Despite both of them being unwell, Kudus was upset that he could not meet Agyapong to wish him an Eid Mubarak. Agyapong described Kudus’s emotional response, highlighting how the young player’s actions reflected the deep affection and respect that Muslims have for those they care about.

The former MP also recalled the overwhelming support he received from the Muslim community during a difficult period in his life. In 2012, he was arrested on charges of treason, and many Muslim friends came to his aid. Agyapong was deeply moved when he saw them praying for him outside the Police Headquarters as he was being taken to the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), now known as the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).

In his legal history, Agyapong was acquitted and discharged by an Accra Circuit Court after standing trial for inciting behavior. The case stemmed from allegations of his involvement in making inflammatory remarks on his radio station, Oman FM. He had faced serious charges of attempted treason, genocide, and terrorism but was ultimately charged with lesser offenses. His lawyer, Ayikoi Otoo, successfully argued that the state had failed to present sufficient evidence, leading to Agyapong’s acquittal.

The accused officers—three senior officers and four soldiers—are said to have arrested and physically attacked the civilians over claims of stealing a mobile phone belonging to another individual.

In a press release issued on April 2, 2025, the Military High Command confirmed that the civilians sustained various degrees of injuries and assured the public of a thorough investigation into the incident.

Military and Police collaboration in investigations

The Military Police, in partnership with the Ashanti Regional Police CID, has taken charge of the case to establish the facts. Meanwhile, the accused military personnel have been placed under closed arrest while investigations continue.

Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, urged the public to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.

“We urge the families and friends of the victims to remain calm and await the outcome of the investigations,” he stated.

Man accused of fraud cries after court frees him

0

Samuel Twumasi, a 37-year-old driver wept uncontrollably when an Accra Circuit Court discharged him on charges of conspiracy and two counts of defrauding by false pretences.

When the matter was called, prosecution led by Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu told the court to discharge Twumasi because the Police did not have enough evidence to prosecute him.

The Court presided over by Mr Samuel Bright Acquah therefore discharged Twumasi.

Soon after Twumasi was discharged, he wept uncontrollably as he stepped out of the dock.

Although some police officers tried to comfort him, by saying “Barima nsu,” Twumasi could not hold his tears.

Apparently, Twumasi was unable to execute the court bail extended to him and was in custody of the Police.

Twumasi was standing trial with Isaac Danso, a 38-year-old Communication Consultant. They were facing the same charges.

Danso was not in court when Twumasi was discharged.

Prosecution told the Court that Danso had been arrested by the Police again and was in custody of the Police at Kasoa.

Twumasi ‘s discharge meant that Danso was going to stand trial alone.

Danso is accused of collecting $4,000 from Adinan Lamidi under the pretext of obtaining Canadian visa.

Again, he is being held for allegedly collecting $2,000 from one Marwan Mustapha under the pretext of obtaining Canadian visa but failed.

On September 15, 2024, the accused persons were arrested.

Don’t let social media drive you into making irrational decision

0

Ghanaian actress Vicky Zugah Ghanaian actress Vicky Zugah

Ghanaian actress Vicky Zugah has taken to social media to warn her followers against making risky decisions in response to trolls on social media.

In a video shared on Instagram on April 1, 2025, the actress cited a disturbing scenario where she saw a young woman buying six different anti-ageing supplements just because a social media troll called her “Abrewa” (Old Lady).

“Her reason was that someone had commented ‘Abrewa’ (Old Lady) under a picture of hers she posted on social media. And this is actually a young, beautiful-looking lady. She didn’t look old to me in any way, and even if she did, when did it become a crime to grow old?

“Me, Vicky. I’ve been called ‘abrewa’ a countless number of times. Way back in primary school, because I naturally have dry hands and feet. But will I kill myself? No, because I did not create myself like that,” she stated.

The actress warned against letting strangers’ negativity dictate health choices.

“I can’t believe people allow total strangers’ comments on social media to drive them into making irrational decisions. I can understand that not all of us can stand social media trolls, but it is definitely not worth making decisions that will affect your health in the long term,” she said.

Zugah urged people to embrace ageing gracefully, stressing that not everyone gets the privilege of growing old.

‘Enjoy the blessings and grace of growing old and stop fighting it too much or taking anti-ageing this, anti-ageing that. Everyone gets to be a child, but not everyone gets to grow old.

‘A full-blown adult wakes up and decides to be an idiot by posting nonsense under your pictures, and you want to harm your organs because of that. These idiots have no single idea of the gravity of pain they are causing people by constituting new signs on social media. Ignore them,” she concluded.

Be careful not to be cursed – NAPO warns Amoakohene that power is used on humans, not animals

Dr Frank Amoakohene and Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh Dr Frank Amoakohene and Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 elections, has cautioned the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, on the responsible exercise of authority.

According to NAPO, the minister should exercise his power in a manner that attracts blessings rather than curses from the people.

His remarks follow an incident involving the regional minister and firefighters during a fire outbreak at the Adum Bluelight Market in Kumasi’s Central Business District.

In a widely circulated video, Dr Amoakohene was heard shouting at some officers, prompting concerns about his approach to leadership.

Speaking during a donation exercise at the Adum Bluelight Market on April 2, 2025, Dr Prempeh stated that power is meant to be exercised over humans, not animals.

He urged the minister to handle people with care to gain their favour rather than incite resentment.

“The regional minister has been here, and I would like to plead with him to understand that power is exercised over human beings, not animals. He should exercise his authority in a way that will attract blessings from the people and not curses,” NAPO stated.

The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Friday, March 21, caused significant losses, leaving many traders struggling to recover.

During his visit to the site, NAPO expressed sympathy for the affected traders and assured them of his full support.

To aid in the rebuilding process, he donated GH₵50,000 and 500 bags of cement.

CSOs push for local content, worker protection in ECG reform talks

0

Dr. Steve Manteaw, a member of the CSOs coalition Dr. Steve Manteaw, a member of the CSOs coalition

A coalition of civil society organisations (CSOs) focused on the petroleum, power and renewable energy sectors has backed government’s push for power sector reforms, mainly changes to Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) operations.

However, the coalition of CSOs has called for strong local content provisions and worker safeguards in any restructuring efforts.

During a recent meeting in Accra with Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abu Jinapor, CSO representatives acknowledged government’s concerns over ECG’s financial struggles; particularly its difficulty in collecting sufficient tariff revenue to pay Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

The minister noted that this challenge is threatening power supply reliability, making reform a pressing necessity.

He said it is to address these issues that government is exploring a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model aimed at boosting revenue collection efficiency and enhancing customer experience.

At a press conference to share a summary of key issues discussed and feedback offered by the minister, a member of the coalition, Benjamin Nsiah, indicated that while CSOs are largely supportive of the need for reforms, they also urged the minister to prioritise local participation in any partnership agreement.

The CSOs, he said, also pressed for assurances that the livelihoods of ECG employees would be safeguarded under any new arrangement.

This push for reform comes amid growing pressure to stabilise the country’s power sector, which has been plagued by financial constraints and supply disruptions.

The group noted that the minister on his part agreed to these demands.

On energy sector governance, the CSOs urged the ministry to insulate power policies from political interference and develop a long-term strategy to meet rising electricity demand while integrating technological advancements.

The group further recommended that IPPs be allowed to procure their own fuel for power generation, arguing that this would reduce dependence on intermediaries, lower costs and ensure a more stable supply chain.

They recognised that Ghana has not pursued green energy investment opportunities aggressively enough. Given this, they urged government to accelerate efforts at integrating renewables into the national energy portfolio through an articulated incentive regime to promote energy diversification and alignment with global climate goals.

They also emphasised incentivising private companies, especially those with substantial carbon footprints, to channel a considerable portion of their corporate social investment budget into off-grid solutions and nature-based carbon sequestration projects.

Furthermore, the CSOs challenged the ministry to find ways of insulating energy policies and rural electrification initiatives from undue political influence so as to enhance the sector’s efficiency.

Meanwhile, they supported the minister’s proposal to adopt a comprehensive and forward-looking strategy that ensures Ghana’s power generation keeps pace with rising energy demands and technological advancements.

Beyond the power sector, the CSOs proposed revisions to Ghana’s taxation policies for ancillary services in oil and gas, including infrastructure, storage and transportation. They argued that reducing tax burdens on these areas would encourage private-sector investment and improve efficiency.

“With the ministry’s dual mandate covering both energy and green transition, there must be proper synergy between Ghana’s fossil fuel resources and its renewable energy ambitions,” the coalition stated.

“We must avoid prematurely stranding oil and gas assets while ensuring responsible integration into the transition process.”

To attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), the CSOs called for greater transparency in licencing bid rounds, recommending improvements in seismic data collection and block size assessments.

They also suggested a temporary halt of promotional roadshows by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) until regulatory and investment barriers are addressed.

The 19-member coalition includes the Growth Curve Initiative, Civil Society Platform on Oil and Gas (CSPOG), Centre for Extractives and Development Africa (CEDA), Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) and Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), among others.

EC Boss Jean Mensah shed tears of joy when she heard the good news

0

According to the latest report by GBC, the Centre for Democracy and Socio-Economic Development (CDS) has asked President John Mahama not to remove the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, and her deputies. They have sent a petition to the President against removing Jean Mensah and her team.

Two petitions were already sent to the President by the Positive Transparency and Accountability Movement Ghana and an individual named Daniel Ofosu-Appiah. They want Jean Mensa, her deputies Dr. Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey, and another commissioner, Dr. Peter Atuahene, removed.

The CDS believes removing the EC officials would harm Ghana’s democracy. They say it could set a bad example for future governments to dismiss EC officials for political reasons. They reminded the president of a similar event in 2017 when an EC chairperson and her deputies were removed.

The CDS warns that if this trend continues, it will weaken the independence of the Electoral Commission. It will make it difficult for the body to function without political interference. They also noted that those who want Jean Mensa removed are using the 2017 incident as justification for their demand.

The petition further states that the Electoral Commission should remain independent and free from political control. If one government removes EC officials, future administrations might do the same, leading to continuous political interference. This could eventually damage the trust citizens have in the election process.

For this reason, the CDS urges President Mahama to reject the petitions and allow Jean Mensa and her team to continue their work. They believe this decision will protect Ghana’s democracy and prevent the Electoral Commission from becoming a tool for ruling governments to manipulate elections.

Here are some reactions from Ghanaians.

A 51-year-old man, Kwamena Nuamah, has claimed that former President John Agyekum Kufuor is his biological father.

Kwamena Nuamah, a tipper truck driver from Bogoso, recounted his lifelong struggle to discover his father’s identity during an interview on Lawson TV on April 1, 2025.

According to him, he was raised by his grandmother for 39 years after his mother abandoned him at a young age.

He explained that his mother had traveled to Kumasi Railways to seek a livelihood and became pregnant while there.

However, she never disclosed the identity of the man responsible for the pregnancy.

He explained that when he was just a year and six months old, his mother left him in the care of his grandmother and traveled to Côte d’Ivoire. Upon her return, she fell ill and later passed away, leaving behind unanswered questions about his paternity.

Nuamah revealed that a classmate of his late mother repeatedly told him that his father was a great man, and he was not living a life befitting of his true status. This led him on a quest to uncover the truth.

“I went to Apagyafie in the Ashanti Region, and I was told that my father is former President Kufuor. I also sought help from Chairman Wontumi, who contacted NPP Women’s Organizer Nana Ama Ampomah. She asked me to take a picture of my mother for further verification,” Nuamah stated.

According to him, despite multiple efforts to meet Kufuor and confirm his claim, he has been unsuccessful.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is struggling to gain traction in the party’s 2028 presidential race, according to the latest Global InfoAnalytics poll.

The survey reveals that Asiedu Nketiah has only secured 10% of voter support, placing him outside the top three contenders for the party’s flagbearership.

The poll indicates that the current Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, is leading the race with 26% of voter preference.

She is followed closely by the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, who has garnered 19%, while the Minister of Finance, Dr Ato Forson, holds third place with 12%.

Asiedu Nketiah shares fourth place with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, both polling at 10%.

Other notable figures in the race include Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, and the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, both securing 6% of voter support.

The results suggest that while Asiedu Nketiah remains a key figure within the NDC, he faces stiff competition from more prominent contenders in the race to lead the party into the 2028 general election.

List of African countries slapped with heavy import taxes between 10% and 50% by Trump

0

US President, Donald Trump US President, Donald Trump

On April 2, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a series of new tariffs, including a universal 10% tariff on all imported goods starting April 5.

Additionally, higher “reciprocal tariffs” were imposed on specific countries, with Lesotho facing a 50% tariff, Madagascar 47%, and Botswana 37%.

President Trump described this initiative as a “Declaration of Economic Independence,” aiming to bolster domestic industries and address trade imbalances.

These tariffs are expected to have significant economic implications for the affected African nations. For instance, Lesotho’s textile and apparel industry, a major contributor to its economy, may experience reduced exports to the U.S., potentially leading to job losses and economic downturn.

Similarly, Madagascar and Botswana, which rely heavily on exports to the U.S., could face economic challenges due to decreased competitiveness in the American market.

Economists and business leaders have expressed concerns that these tariffs may lead to increased prices for U.S. consumers and potential retaliatory measures from affected countries, potentially escalating into a broader trade conflict.
