AratheJay drops new single “Fire” with Bella Shumrda

0

Buzzing Ghanaian artist AratheJay grips the spotlight again with the release of his latest single, “Fire“. The track features Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda, blending afrobeats rhythms with a well resonating.

AratheJay’s unmistakable faith and resilience echo in “Fire“, wrapped in celestial melodies that spark hope in listeners.

“Fire” paints the emotional picture of an individual walking through flames – symbolizing the harshness of life’s hardships, fears, and battles. However, rather than being consumed by the fire, the protagonist embraces it, finding strength and purpose in the heat of adversity. It’s a song about transformation, self-empowerment, and the indomitable human spirit.

In the song, AratheJay calls out for a lighter – not to destroy, but to ignite his inner courage, urging listeners to do the same in the face of their challenges. He sings for wings—not to escape, but to rise above their fears and conquer what once seemed impossible. His message is clear: you can rise stronger no matter how fierce the flames are.

With Bella Shmurda lending his distinctive voice, the track becomes even more potent. It blends both artists’ unique styles into a track that resonates deeply with anyone who has faced their own battles and found the strength to keep going.

Fire” is solitude for anyone who has ever walked through flames. The track is available on all streaming platforms http://orcd.co/arathejayfire

President John Dramani Mahama has clarified that the proposed Hajj Village, currently under construction, will not be exclusively for pilgrims travelling to Mecca but will also serve as a transit facility for passengers passing through Kotoka International Airport.

Addressing concerns about the project’s relevance amid economic challenges, the President emphasized that the facility would provide much-needed amenities for all travellers, enhancing their transit experience at the airport.

The announcement comes amid criticism over the necessity of the project, with some questioning its exclusivity and timing.

However, the President reiterated that the Hajj Village is designed to benefit not only pilgrims but also the general travelling public, ensuring a more convenient and comfortable airport experience for all.

“Under the Reset Agenda, the Ghana Airport Company is constructing a transit terminal that will be used as a Hajj Village during the Hajj period and as a comfortable transit center for departures. The transit facility will be available after the Hajj period for other passengers in transit through Kotoka International Airport,” he clarified.

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance

The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has stated that the government intends to significantly reduce the number of officials delegated to attend international conferences.

He explained that the move forms part of the government’s efforts to cut down on expenditure, as it works to restore confidence in Ghana’s ailing economy.

According to a report by 3news.com, the finance minister made this remark during a meeting with World Bank Division Director Robert Taliercio O’Brien and his team on March 26.

He emphasised the importance of implementing austerity measures at the government level to restore confidence in the public.

“Leading by example, I have made it clear that the era of free, non-essential conference travel is over. Delegation sizes will be significantly reduced, with three officials now expected to accomplish the work of ten, ensuring greater efficiency without compromising productivity,” he said.

Dr Forson reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to fiscal prudence, particularly within the framework of the country’s IMF-supported programme.

“As a government, we are taking decisive action to curb unnecessary expenditures across all sectors,” he stated.

The wife of Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, allegedly attempted to destroy evidence by packing suspected currency bills into suitcases on the night she was informed of her husband’s arrest.

This is according to Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem Sai, who appeared in court on Friday, March 28, 2025, for the bail hearing of the embattled couple, Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng.

An Accra Human Rights Court has subsequently reviewed the bail conditions for former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, following a legal challenge by his lawyers.

His bail sum has been reduced from GH¢120 million to GH¢80 million with two sureties, one to be justified.

His wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, retains her GH¢80 million bail with two justified sureties. Both must report to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) three times weekly and require EOCO’s approval for travel.

The couple, who arrested over alleged state funds embezzlement, argued that the original bail conditions were excessive. Their lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea Esq, successfully pushed for a reduction, stating the amounts were unfairly high.

Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem Sai opposed the appeal, calling the couple flight risks and revealing that Angela Adjei Boateng allegedly attempted to destroy evidence by packing suspected cash into suitcases after her husband’s arrest.

Dani Alves freed after judge aquitted him of sexual harassment charges

Dani Alves is a former player of Brazil Dani Alves is a former player of Brazil

Ex-Barcelona player Dani Alves has won his appeal against a conviction for sexually assaulting a woman in a Catalan nightclub on New Year’s Eve in 2022.

Although the 40-year-old denied any wrongdoing, he was initially sentenced to four and a half years in prison in February 2024, after a panel of three judges found him guilty following a three-day trial.

However, following his lawyers’ appeals, Alves was granted bail in March 2024 as he awaited his appeal to be heard by a higher court.

After the Catalan High Court reviewed the case, judges concluded on Friday, March 28, 2025, that there was not enough evidence to dismiss Alves’ presumption of innocence.

Parts of a 101-page written document read:

“The Appeals Section of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia has unanimously upheld the appeal of footballer Dani Alves, who was sentenced by Section 21 of the Provincial Court of Barcelona to 4 years and 6 months in prison for a crime of sexual assault on a young woman in a Barcelona nightclub on December 31, 2022.

“The full bench of the Appeals Section, composed of judges María Angels Vivas, Roser Bach, Maria Jesus Manzano, and Judge Manuel Álvarez, does not share the conviction expressed by the Barcelona Court and points out that its exposition contains a series of gaps, inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and contradictions regarding the facts, the legal assessment, and its consequences.

“The court thus dismisses the appeals of the prosecution, which requested the partial annulment of the sentence and, alternatively, an increase in the penalty to nine years and of the private prosecution which sought to raise the penalty to 12 years and acquits the defendant, nullifying the precautionary measures imposed.”

The right-back enjoyed a storied career, winning numerous trophies with top clubs like Barcelona, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Reporter who sued MP and won $18m hopeful he will pocket the money

0

An investigative journalist who won an $18m (£14m) defamation case against a Ghanaian MP says that, although he is hopeful he will receive the money, what is more rewarding is the message his victory sends.

Anas Aremeyaw Anas began legal action against Kennedy Agyapong after the MP labelled him a “criminal” following his investigation into football corruption in Ghana and elsewhere.

He initially brought the case in Ghana, and lost, but then took it to the US, where Agyapong owns property, and won.

“The bigger impact for me is not the money but the fact that young journalists are encouraged [to hold the powerful to account] no matter how big you are [as] a politician”, Anas told the BBC.

The court heard that Agyapong, among other accusations made on a podcast, had called the reporter a “criminal” and alleged he was behind the murder of fellow journalist Ahmed Suale.

Anas told the BBC he was still grieving Suale and that, despite the recent arrest of one suspect, he believes there are other culprits still at large.

“From time to time I go to where Ahmed was shot, and I go to have my own quiet time. I go to his grave.

“It encourages me. When Ahmed was alive he asked me one day: ‘Boss, I want [to] assure you [that] one day if you should die, I would continue with the good work that you do’. I didn’t know it was going to be the reverse because, all along… I was the one who was the target.”

Anas has been scathing in his criticism of Ghana’s legal system, telling the BBC he believes “many” members of the judiciary “are doing nothing but tilting the scale of justice in favour of the wrong one”.

He decided to bring his case against the MP to the US state of New Jersey, where the politician was at the time he was interviewed for the Daddy Fred Show podcast, according to court papers filed by Anas’ lawyers.

The journalist’s victory earlier this month saw him awarded $18m in damages as the result of a unanimous decision by an eight-member jury in Essex County Superior Court in New Jersey, finding Agyapong liable for defamation.

The figure included $8m in punitive damages.

“I feel very happy, I think that it’s a vindication of what I have always preached. This goes a long way to encourage African journalists across the continent there’s a need for us to be resilient. There’s a need for us to have a stomach to take the heat,” Anas told the BBC.

Now that the court has ordered Agyapong to pay damages, the journalist says he is confident the funds will be transferred because his legal team’s “due diligence” had assessed the value of property and businesses owned by the MP before bringing the case.

“I cannot be 100% certain, but I know that my legal team has done some work and they have a plan,” he adds.

Anas says that, even though his case was won in the US, it should serve as a wake-up call to the rich and powerful that African journalists can and will hold them to account.

“We also have the capacity to stand toe-to-toe with you. Whilst we are patient, whilst we are honest, our day will definitely come.”
