Former Deputy Director of the Ghana Tourist Development Company, Akua Djanie (Blakofe)
Former Deputy Director of the Ghana Tourist Development Company, Akua Djanie, popularly known as Blakofe, has stated that she fears for her life following a confrontation with the security of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Blakofe, a renowned Ghanaian fashion designer, revealed that security guards confronted her over a video she posted, in which she lamented the blockage of the road leading to the former president’s private residence.
According to her, the guards defended the blockade, claiming it had been approved by the John Dramani Mahama administration.
“So earlier today I was in Nima, and I had to walk past Akufo-Addo’s house. Now, whenever you walk past, you see that there are always loads of guys outside. I only assume they are security. One of the guys called me… so I stopped and he came over and he asked me, why did you do that video of Akufo-Addo and the barrier here? You’re making us look bad.
“I said to him, ‘Do you think it’s right for Akufo-Addo to block the road so neighbours and people can’t access the road?’ And he basically told me that it’s a protocol from the government. He said, It’s the current government who has given Akufo-Addo the protocol to block his road forever because he was once president,” she said in a viral video.
She added, “So I asked him why that wasn’t the case for Kufuor and Rawlings. He said, because of where Akufo-Addo lives, the government have decided that he will have this barrier there forever and neighbours can never access the road again.”
Blakofe said the conversation quickly became heated, leading to a shouting match between her and the security guard who was questioning her.
She added that she now fears the possibility of being attacked by the guards.
“I have business in Akufo-Addo’s area, so I go there a lot. But the thing is, now how safe am I? Because now these guys are attacking me for saying, remove the barrier, so maybe next time they’ll follow me. And if they attack me, who knows?” she said.
She reiterated, “Because at the end of the day, it doesn’t make sense to block the road. And me saying it has led to the security at Akufo-Addo’s house now coming to me when they see me on the street. So next time would they follow me somewhere and attack me?”

Style is an intimate expression of who you are, acting as a subtle statement of your identity. The first step in discovering your style is self-awareness—understanding what makes you feel confident and comfortable. Your style should represent a harmonious blend that reflects your individuality and showcases your personality. The key is to create a look that highlights your best self, rather than just following fleeting trends. There’s no need to box your style into predefined categories.
Being authentic is crucial. Stay true to your passions while also remaining open to experimenting with new things. If you’re unsure of where to begin, return to the basics. Classic, timeless clothing serves as a perfect foundation. These pieces never go out of style, are adaptable, and easy to pair. From there, you can experiment with colors, textures, or accessories to add your personal touch.
Fashion isn’t a race to perfection; it’s a path toward self-awareness. Your style will evolve alongside you, so embrace this natural change. Have fun experimenting, and don’t be afraid to make small changes, whether it’s altering your environment or adding a new accessory. These shifts can boost your confidence and help you express your uniqueness.
At its core, your style is your personal narrative. Let it be unapologetically yours—bold, confident, and true to you. Every choice you make communicates something about who you are. Own your style and wear it with pride, just like the lead character in your favorite story.
Petrosol Ghana Limited has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to customer appreciation with the grand finale of its northern sector “Energising Dreams” promotion, which saw one lucky customer drive away in a brand-new Suzuki S-Presso.
The climax of the six-month-long campaign took place in the Upper West Region as part of activities marking the company’s 10th anniversary. The event drew excitement from customers and stakeholders alike, celebrating loyalty and partnership with the brand. Addressing attendees, the Chief Executive Officer of Petrosol, Michael Bozondel, described the occasion as a significant milestone in the company’s history.
“Today is a physical, demonstrable expression of our gratitude to the customers who have stood by us over the years,” he said.
Highlighting the journey of the promo, he explained, “After launching the ‘Energising Dreams’ promo on October 1 last year, we’ve spent the last six months rewarding customers across the country with assorted items. But this car giveaway is the crown jewel of our northern celebration.” Bozondel credited Petrosol’s growth from a modest indigenous company to an ISO-certified oil marketing firm to the continued trust of its customers.
He stressed that the company’s evolution has been intentional and rooted in strong principles.
“We haven’t rushed our growth; we’ve taken each step with a commitment to quality, regulatory compliance, tax responsibility, and customer satisfaction. That’s why we continue to give back, not just through promotions, but also through constant improvement in fuel and lubricant quality,” he noted. Looking ahead, Bozondel announced that the southern sector edition of the promotion’s grand finale will be held at Petrosol’s Spintex station in Accra on April 29. Another lucky customer will drive away in a new car, while several others will take home exciting prizes.
“This is a relationship we want to continue. Our customers should expect more of these initiatives,” he assured. Also present at the event was Duncan Amoah, Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), who commended Petrosol’s efforts to reward consumer loyalty tangibly.
“What we’ve witnessed today is remarkable. This is what consumer appreciation should look like. Petrosol is not only selling the right fuel in the right quantity, but they are also giving back to those who keep them in business. Imagine buying just GHS100 worth of fuel and winning a GHS200,000 car, that’s a meaningful reward,” he said. He urged other players in the industry to take a cue from Petrosol by prioritising transparency and consumer value.
“This is a trusted brand that has lived up to its name. And when the consumer wins, the whole country wins,” Amoah added.

GhanaWeb to stream Kwahu Business Forum as government targets 600 businesses by 2028
“No economy can thrive when access to finance is elusive,” — Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader, Parliament of the Republic of Ghana
Mpraeso, April 19, GNA – The second edition of the Kwahu Business Forum, a major initiative to foster entrepreneurship and support the growth of Ghana’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs), is underway at the Mpraeso Social Centre in the Kwahu South District in the Eastern Region.
The Forum is the brain child of President Mahama, who expected to officially open the second edition.
Dr. John Osae-Kwapong, a research fellow at the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) and political analyst, has offered an early assessment of President John Mahama’s administration during its first 102 days in office.
According to him, the current government appears to be setting a different tone compared to Mahama’s previous administration, which ended in a 2016 electoral defeat.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, April 19, he highlighted key actions such as limiting the number of ministers to no more than 60—a campaign promise—and addressing immediate concerns, including unpopular policies like the E-levy.
“I believe the John Mahama administration is trying to set a different tone. At least from my observation, compared to his first administration and what led to his loss in 2016,” he said.
“I mean putting a government together, ensuring that he is sticking with his promise of no more than 60 ministers—some of those key things, low-hanging fruits that you can immediately tackle. The E-levy, a very unpopular policy.”
While acknowledging these efforts, Dr. Osae-Kwapong noted that several issues remain unresolved.
“…But you also still have a number of things outstanding. Overall though, my initial assessment is that again, if you look at the budget, they have signaled where they want to place their priorities, how they want to spend or not spend. They are putting in place a good framework that will allow them to govern the way President Mahama foresees his current government.”
However, he cautioned that the administration’s full trajectory and impact cannot be determined within just four months.
“As to how it all plays, I think it will take more than 120 days.”

Legal practitioner Bobby Banson has called for urgent legislative reforms to protect the integrity of the judiciary amid mounting political tensions over the potential removal of the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, April 19, Mr. Banson expressed concern that the current process was being turned into a political “ping pong” between the country’s two dominant political parties—the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“I think that this whole issue with the current Chief Justice, as Dr. Pumpuni said, should lead to legislative reforms for me,” Banson stated. “Otherwise, it will become a political ping pong of NDC-NPP, and at the end of the day, the institution itself is what will be bastardized.”
He warned that the increasing polarisation of the country along political lines threatens the independence and public confidence in the judiciary.
According to him, without legal reforms to clarify and protect the processes for handling judicial misconduct allegations, the system could be repeatedly abused for political gain.
Meanwhile, the Director of Legal Affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Frank Davies, has expressed deep concern over what he describes as the politicization of ongoing processes related to the potential removal of Chief Justice.
Speaking on Newsfile, Mr. Davies cautioned that while Ghana’s constitution makes provisions for the removal of a Chief Justice, the manner in which the issue is being handled risks undermining the country’s legal framework and democratic stability.
According to him, it is not the idea of removing a Chief Justice that is inherently problematic, but rather how the process is approached and presented to the public.
“It’s not the removal, per se, of a Chief Justice which is the problem,” he said.
“It is a constitutional structure where it is founded. So, if that is being exercised by citizens of this country, and there’s a valid basis for the removal of a Chief Justice, it should not be too much.”

Ghanaian musician Criss Waddle has slammed music group Alabaster Box over their recent GH¢15 million copyright lawsuit against rapper Medikal.
On April 15, 2025, Alabaster Box filed the suit, accusing Medikal of sampling their hit song ‘Akwaaba’ without permission.
The lawsuit has since sparked massive debate online, with fans and industry personalities sharing mixed reactions.
Criss Waddle, founder of AMG Group and Medikal’s former boss, has taken to social media to express disappointment in the gospel group, labelling the amount they are demanding as “exorbitant.”
According to him, Medikal’s track ‘Welcome to Africa’ hasn’t even generated GH¢1,000, making the GH¢15 million demand completely unreasonable.
“He is without doubt ready to split income or pay a decent amount, but a song that has not yet generated 1,000 cedis, and you ask to be paid 15 million cedis? Why not ask to be given whatever that song generates instead of asking for $1 million,” he said.
Criss Waddle also questioned the faith of the gospel music group, stating that the music group is hiding behind religion while being “wicked”.
“Abrabor nda fɔm oo. To see Christian musicians sue their son’s age mate for money still surprises me mo Nyame som mpo nie.
“If they were circular musicians, I would understand, but Gospel? You ask to be paid, but to ask for 15 million cedis? How much does a whole album generate? If you want to be wicked, don’t add Christianity to your identity,” he established in English and Twi.

Throwback Video of Obaapa Christy’s Darker Skin Tone Sparks Reactions Online
News Hub Creator1h
A resurfaced video of renowned Ghanaian gospel singer Obaapa Christy, formerly known as Christiana Love, has stirred a buzz on social media. The video, shared by TikTok user @zaygyanpanyinanna, features the award-winning artist performing live at the 2004 Resurrection Praise event.
What captured the attention of many viewers wasn’t just her powerful performance, but her noticeably darker complexion at the time. The contrast between her appearance then and now—where she appears much fairer—sparked curiosity and conversation among fans.
Obaapa Christy, known for timeless gospel hits like W’agye Me and Hyebre Sesafo, was seen passionately ministering with a live band in the video. The clip has gone viral, igniting thousands of reactions and comments. Some social media users were surprised by the transformation, with a few speculating about skin-lightening, while others simply praised her glow-up.
Despite the physical changes, many admirers expressed their respect for her consistency and vocal prowess over the years. The video served as a nostalgic reminder of her humble beginnings and the remarkable journey she has taken to become a leading figure in Ghana’s gospel music scene.
For most fans, the focus remained on her talent and the deep emotional connection her music continues to inspire, rather than her outward appearance.
Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has condemned what he describes as a direct threat to Ghana’s democratic foundations by President John Dramani Mahama concerning ongoing efforts to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, April 19, Ahiagbah questioned both the intent and implications of the President’s decision, insisting that the move defies the logic of democratic governance.
“I think this president is taking an intended or unintended aim at the core of our democracy. This whole business of trying to remove the Chief Justice cannot be apologised for, and nobody can convince me that it makes any democratic sense, in terms of the practice and the furtherance of democracy in our country.
“Removing the Chief Justice does not make any rational sense. On that account, I will say that his administration has performed poorly on that score. What brought them into power is the democracy, and if they are aiming to affect that, for me, it cannot be excused,” he added.
His comments come amid increasing political and legal attention on the petition process involving the Chief Justice.
This follows President Mahama’s formal decision to refer a petition for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to the Council of State in accordance with constitutional requirements. The move triggered a swift response from the Chief Justice, who officially requested access to the contents of the petitions filed against her.
In response to her request, President Mahama granted the Chief Justice a 10-day period within which to present her written defence.
Reliable sources have confirmed that Chief Justice Torkornoo submitted her response ahead of the April 7, 2025, deadline, forwarding it to both the President and the Council of State.
With the Chief Justice’s response now officially submitted, the Council of State is expected to begin its review to determine whether the petition holds sufficient merit to warrant further proceedings.
As Ghana braces for another rainy season, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is shifting gears from its usual relief-centered approach to proactive disaster preparedness, sending a clear message: “prevention pays.”
Flooding remains one of the country’s most persistent threats, especially in vulnerable urban zones. Municipalities such as Kwabre East and Asokore Mampong have been flagged as high-risk areas due to repeated disaster incidents. In 2024 alone, Kwabre East recorded at least 17 disaster cases linked to flooding, fire, and poor drainage.
“We had a number of children who were displaced and some buildings that collapsed,” said Abdul Latif Chambas, a NADMO official at Kwabre East.
Determined to change the narrative, NADMO is prioritizing strategic community empowerment this season over post-disaster relief.
“I think it is important we do a simulation exercise. Because without a simulation exercise, it’s going to be very difficult to identify the gaps in the system,” emphasized Charlotte Norman, Director for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction at NADMO.
Charlotte noted that proactive preparedness could significantly reduce both casualties and destruction when floods occur. NADMO’s strategy includes simulation exercises and intensive training for health workers, emergency responders, security agencies, assembly members, meteorological officers, and community leaders. The aim is to clearly define the roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder, ensuring swift and coordinated action when disaster strikes.
“These simulations help everyone from health officers to assembly members understand what to do during a flood,” she said. “We’re spelling out everyone’s responsibilities.”
The drills are facilitated by experts from the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL), helping agencies build a unified response system.
“The training must extend to the district level and link up with the national standard operation protocols,” said Dr. Selack Seyni, a facilitator from WASCAL. “This is the only way we can reduce casualties, damages, and losses that may be around disasters.”
At the local level, officials are using lessons from past disasters to reshape their approach.
“We don’t want to wait for disaster to strike and then give out relief items,” Abdul Latif stressed. “Prevention is better. That’s why we’re acting now.”
Tackling The Root Causes Of Urban Flooding
Flooding in Ghanaian cities stems from a combination of natural and human factors. While heavy rainfall plays a major role, the situation is worsened by human practices such as poor waste disposal, construction on waterways, weak enforcement of planning regulations, and unchecked urban development.
The growing impact of climate change has added another layer of concern, with unpredictable weather patterns triggering heavier downpours and more frequent floods.
Participants in NADMO’s preparedness programs say the training has increased their confidence in handling flood-related emergencies.
“This is the first time I’ve had such an engagement with NADMO, sitting at one table to decide how to handle emergencies and disasters within the municipality,” said Abena Serwah, a social welfare department worker. “I found it insightful. Now I know how to help if something happens.”
Another participant, Elsi Kusi Appiah, shared similar sentiments: “It has been an eye-opener. Now I know all the flood-prone areas.”
NADMO says the urgency to act has never been more pressing. The organization is reaffirming its commitment to saving lives and reducing the scale of destruction caused by floods — not only this year but for the long term.
For NADMO, preparedness is not just a strategy — it’s a life-saving necessity. And one message resounds from the ground up: prevention truly does pay.

Ahafo Regional Communication team member for the National Democratic Congress, Mr Edem Kwaku Edem has criticised the current Mayor’s threat to unleash force against traders operating on pavements in the city’s central business district, calling the approach “undemocratic” and potentially counterproductive.
The Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, during a press conference on April 14, threatened to unleash his men on traders who sell on pavements within the central business district of Kumasi
Speaking in an interview on Genesis Radio on Wednesday, April 16, Edem Kwaku Edem said that while dealing with congestion and street trading in Kumasi remains a difficult task, resorting to flogging is not the solution.
“It’s a difficult task dealing with the people of Kumasi, which I must admit. But for the approach [ flogging], you see the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly. Likewise, all other metropolitan municipalities and assemblies have byelaws. We have our byelaws that are fixated, and they deal with all offenses and infractions.
Edem added that the comment by the mayor is reckless and uncalled for and has ask Kumasi mayor to retract and apologise because the NDC really suffered to win the 2024 general elections, and the grassroots will not allow anyone to misuse the opportunity given to the National Democratic Congress by Ghanaians.
He finally called on the president not to entertain any autocratic and disrespectful appointees.
The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has imposed a ban on the celebration of the WA YAA DORM, WA YAA KLOWEM festival in Somanya, citing security concerns and the risk of clashes with another traditional event.
According to REGSEC, the newly introduced festival coincides with the grand durbar of the Plau Kani festival, which is annually observed by chiefs and the people of Plau in Somanya. Reports of rising tension and hostility in the area prompted an urgent security review.
Following an assessment, REGSEC determined that both events would use the same procession route on Saturday, April 19, 2025, increasing the likelihood of conflict between participants. In response, the council, acting under the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2020 (Act 1030), decided to prohibit the WA YAA DORM, WA YAA KLOWEM celebration on that day.
Authorities stress that the decision prioritizes public safety and the overall security of the Yilo Krobo Municipality. The council has urged organizers to comply with the directive in the interest of peace.
REGSEC has also directed the police to enforce law and order during the Plau Kani festival to ensure the safety of residents and attendees.
On the night of Good Friday, March 29, 2025, a catastrophic fire erupted near the Madina Redco Flats in Accra, Ghana, at approximately 11:15 p.m. The blaze rapidly consumed a densely populated informal settlement, destroying over 150 wooden structures and 20 metal containers used for both residential and commercial purposes.
Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he describes as the politicisation of ongoing legal issues surrounding the potential removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Speaking on Newsfile on JoyNews, the former NDC MP asserted that the NPP’s active defence of the Chief Justice creates a perception that she is politically aligned with the ruling party, which could erode public confidence in the judiciary’s independence.
“It is totally wrong for a political party to assume the fight to protect the Chief Justice,” he said, expressing concern that the NPP’s involvement could undermine the integrity of the judiciary and politicise what should be a constitutional and impartial process.
Mr Fuseini argued that while it is not inappropriate to initiate processes to remove a Chief Justice in cases of alleged misconduct, the role of political parties in such matters should be restrained.
He recalled that there had been a similar petition against Justice Torkornoo in 2024 and stressed that calls for scrutiny of her office should not be dismissed outright.
“What the NPP is doing currently is implanting in the minds of people that the current Chief Justice is sympathetic to the NPP,” he said.
“They are doing Madam a disservice, and I simply do not understand why the NPP is so jumpy.”
He further criticised the party for using its legal surrogates to challenge the President’s constitutional obligations in court, noting that all those filing lawsuits to block presidential action on the matter are affiliated with the NPP.
“It is even becoming increasingly difficult to talk about the Chief Justice because she is the Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana,” he stated.
“If the NPP doesn’t know that they are creating the problem, I am telling them they are creating the problem.”

Accra, April 19, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama will today, Saturday, April 19, officially open the second Kwahu Business Forum.
The second edition of the Business Forum is taking place at the Mpraeso Social Centre in the Kwahu South District in the Eastern Region.
The Kwahu Business Forum, which is the brain child of President Mahama, is a major initiative to foster entrepreneurship and support the growth of Ghana’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Ghanaian fashion designer Jeremiah Obuobi (L) and rapper Sarkodie (R)
Ghanaian fashion designer Jeremiah Obuobi has recalled how Sarkodie “stole” his ideas during a clothing line project.
One would recall that in 2013, Obuobi, popularly known as OBJ, filed a GH¢ 90,000 lawsuit against Sarkodie, accusing the musician of stealing his idea under the guise of starting a clothing business with him.
In light of recent developments, where Sarkodie is taking legal action against Ecobank for using his lookalike in a promotional campaign, Jeremiah, who believes karma is at play, has reminded people of how Sarkodie unfairly took his ideas back in 2013.
Recalling how it all began, Jeremiah explained that he came up with the brand name Sark, T-shirts, and also the logos with the head of Sarkodie.
He stated that Sarkodie requested samples of the T-shirt designs for his fans during his 2014 Rapperholic concert.
According to OBJ, just when he could finalise a business deal with the rapper, he read in the media that Sarkodie had launched a clothing line called Sark Collection, which was his idea.
“In 2011, I designed a sneaker called OBJ Sark 1. It was intended to be a collaboration between myself and Sarkodie. The name Sark didn’t exist back then. I coined it out of Sarkodie’s name and created a logo featuring his head.
“We met with Sarkodie’s team and presented the idea where Sammy Forson encouraged us to return with a prototype… We spent 8 months developing a prototype and when we wanted to present it to them, there was no avail,” he said.
OBJ continued, “At the 2012 Rapperholic concert, I was asked to print the same logo I had designed on T-shirts which were worn at the event… We never heard from Sarkodie or his management until 2013 when I discovered that shoes and clothing were being sold under the Sark brand.”
The fashion designer also disclosed how after Sarkodie’s team decided to pay GH¢ 20,000 during the legal tussle but on the day of payment, his lawyers didn’t show up in court.
“I took to issue to the copyright office as a professional and I was told by Sarkodie that they were going to pay. But that didn’t happen so I took the matter to court and we spent 3 years in court… out of the GH¢90,000, Sarkodie’s team decided to GH¢20,000 but on the day of negotiation, neither Sarkodie nor the lawyer showed up.
“The Sark brand name and the illustrated logos were my creation even if they were based on Sarkodie’s name,” he added.
OBJ further quizzed Sarkodie for suing Ecobank for copyright infringement after doing similar thing to him.
“It’s interesting that Sarkodie is suing Ecobank for almost the same copyright infringement he did against me 10 years ago. This is food for thought,” he maintained.

The Supreme Court justices sitting on the case challenging process for removal of the Chief Justice
The only obstacle to the processes for the removal of Chief Justice Torkornoo appears to be an injunction filed by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah.
In his suit, the MP accused President John Dramani Mahama of failing to follow constitutional procedures for the removal of a Chief Justice upon receiving a petition.
Ekow Assafuah is seeking a court declaration that President Mahama’s failure to adhere to this constitutional requirement, and his decision to forward the petitions to the Council of State for further action, is null, void, and of no effect.
As the case progresses, five justices of the Supreme Court have been empanelled to hear it.
These justices will determine whether the ongoing processes for the removal of their boss, Chief Justice Torkornoo, who may have appointed them to the panel, provided she did not recuse herself due to her involvement in the suit, are legal.
Below are brief profiles of the justices:
Her Ladyship Justice Prof. Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu:
Justice Prof. Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu is the chairperson of the five-member panel overseeing the case to halt the ongoing processes for the removal of Chief Justice Torkornoo.
Prior to her appointment to the Supreme Court, she was a law professor and served as a member of the United Nations Independent Panel on Peace Operations.
Prof. Mensa-Bonsu was a senior law lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law.
She became a full lecturer at the university in 2002, and in 2003, she was elected as a fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences. She later became the Academy’s President in 2019.
Justice Mensa-Bonsu was nominated by former President Nana Akufo-Addo in May 2020 and was subsequently approved by Parliament after receiving recommendations from the Appointments Committee.
His Lordship Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu:
Yao Gaewu, nominated by Akufo-Addo, served as a constituency chairman and parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party in the Ho West and Ho Central constituencies.
He resigned from politics after being appointed as a High Court judge in September 2020.
He was sworn into office as a Supreme Court justice in April 2023, becoming the first judge to be appointed to the Supreme Court directly from the High Court since 1980.

Ghanaian politician Hopeson Adorye has vehemently denied circulating social media allegations accusing his wife, gospel musician Empress Gifty, of infidelity. The rumors, which gained traction online earlier this week, allege that Empress Gifty was caught in an affair with a man named Kofi Owusu, purportedly in the couple’s own bedroom.
An anonymous post claimed: “Yesterday, Hopeson Adorye caught Empress Gifty having an extramarital affair with an individual named Kofi Owusu on their matrimonial bed… When Hopeson caught them, he slapped Gifty, and now the issue is before the Tesano Police.”
In a video response that has since gone viral, Adorye expressed anger and defiance toward those he says are attempting to smear his family’s name and undermine him politically. He stated:
“You people can’t bring me down. You think you can hide on the internet and misbehave? Even the people you’re fighting for are pleading with me to return to the party.”
Addressing the originator of the claims directly, Adorye issued a stern warning, condemning the emotional and reputational damage caused to his wife:
“I’m warning you, call your mother and tell her you will die very soon. How can you fabricate such harmful lies about a fellow woman and seek to destroy her hard-earned reputation? Don’t you know she has children, and she’s a brand ambassador for multiple products? That’s her livelihood.”
He also revealed that efforts are underway to track down the individual behind the rumor, indicating that legal action may soon follow:
“I just came from the Immigration Service, and I have all your details. Don’t you know I can sue you in the country where you live? Don’t joke with me.”
The explosive claims have divided opinion online. While some social media users have demanded evidence to back the allegations, others have raised concern over the reported physical assault mentioned in the anonymous post. As of now, there has been no official statement from Empress Gifty herself.
The controversy continues to stir debate, with many calling for restraint and due process as emotions run high.
VAAL Real Estate has officially unveiled AGORA, a 21-floor luxury residential project in the Airport Residential Area near Kotoka International Airport.
Inspired by the historic Greek concept of “Agora” – a central gathering place for trade, conversation, and culture – VAAL’s AGORA embodies that legacy of convergence.
According to Alaa Zayed, CEO of VAAL Ghana, “We’re not just building towers; we’re creating a legacy. When we first envisioned AGORA, we asked ourselves: how can we redefine investment? How can we create a space that’s not just relevant today, but visionary enough for tomorrow?”
“The answer lies not just in the building’s bones—its sustainable design, seamless functionality, and community-oriented ethos—but in its soul. AGORA is crafted not merely for occupancy, but for experiences”.
Alaa Zayed noted that AGORA is where the practical meets the poetic: wellness meets work, and skyline views meet sustainable values. Whether it’s the rooftop pool shimmering beneath Accra’s sunlit skies, the state-of-the-art gym and sauna, or the game room and lounge designed for curated social moments—every element is an invitation to live well.
Minister for Works and Housing, Gilbert Kenneth Adjei, praised VAAL’s architectural excellence and strategic contribution to Accra’s urban development. “Ghana’s housing sector is undergoing a transformation, and VAAL is leading the charge not only through architectural excellence but by strategically enhancing the urban fabric of Accra.”
Group CEO of VAAL Real Estate, Abdulmecid Saadettin, expressed gratitude to investors, clients, and the VAAL team. “To our investors, thank you for trusting in tomorrow. To our clients, thank you for believing in our promise of value and elegance. To the VAAL team, across borders and time zones—you are the heartbeat behind every blueprint. And to Ghana, our gracious host and partner in progress: thank you for welcoming us not just into your skyline, but into your story.”
Tension gripped a quiet Muslim community in Accra on Friday following a violent altercation inside a local mosque that left two worshippers seriously injured.
The incident, which occurred during early morning prayers, saw an imam allegedly stabbing two congregants in a dispute over mosque leadership, according to the Ghana Police Service.
Eyewitnesses say the scuffle broke out moments after the Fajr prayers when a heated verbal exchange turned physical.
The suspect, identified only as Oki Bin Oki, is said to have pulled out a sharp object and attacked two men, aged 32 and 45, causing panic among other worshippers.
Both victims sustained deep stab wounds and were rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where they remain in critical but stable condition.
According to police sources, the dispute had been simmering for weeks over who rightfully held spiritual leadership of the mosque.
Tensions reportedly escalated when a group of worshippers questioned the imam’s legitimacy and called for a fresh appointment. This, investigators believe, may have triggered the violent outburst.
“We received a distress call from residents in the early hours and immediately dispatched officers to the scene,” said Chief Superintendent Isaac Owusu of the Accra Regional Police Command. “The suspect was arrested on the spot and is currently in custody assisting with investigations.”
Local residents described the incident as shocking and unprecedented. “This is a house of peace, and we never imagined such violence could take place here,” said Alhaji Musa, a community elder. “We urge the police to get to the bottom of this and ensure justice is served.”
Religious leaders across the region have condemned the attack and called for calm and unity.
The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, issued a statement urging the Muslim community to settle internal disagreements through dialogue and not violence.
Meanwhile, police say the suspect is expected to be arraigned before court next week on charges of attempted murder and causing harm. Investigations are still ongoing to determine whether others may have played a role in the incident.
The shocking attack has reignited conversations around mosque security and the need for greater oversight in leadership transitions.
Authorities have assured the public of their commitment to maintaining peace and order within all places of worship across the country.

Beijing(China), April 19, GNA – China stands out among the comity of nations in respect of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
It is the cradle of ancient civilisation as some of its age-long sites, especially the country’s geoparks, play a critical role in giving an in-depth knowledge of the evolution of geological and human development through research and scientific studies.
In addition to its numerous cultural, natural and mixed sites inscribed on the World Heritage List, China has more than 15 Creative Cities, with some 34 Biosphere Reserves as of 2022, as well as 49 UNESCO-recognised geoparks – more than any other country in the world.
This has inspired the authorities to embark on various sustainable actions to protect the country’s heritage, cultural and ecological diversity, supporting the broad mandate of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.
“The policies created to preserve and protect China’s cultural and natural heritage, collaborative research, and awareness raising to safeguard this ancient civilisation in its diverse environments, represent a repository of knowledge and educational studies for generations to come,” Professor He Keyong, a Humanities and Social Sciences expert, tells the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
Geoparks serve as important sites for both environmental conservation and community development, he notes.
It is worth noting that, at the recent 221st session of its Executive Board in Paris, France, UNESCO added two new geoparks in China on its list – the Kanbula National Geopark in northwest China’s Qinghai Province, and Yunyang Geopark, situated in the heart of the Three Gorges Reservoir region of the Yangtze River in the south of Yunyang County, Chongqing.
“While the geoparks work to preserve geological heritage, they also play a vital role in protecting local communities from river-related risks, coordinating warning systems and forecasts, and raising awareness on how to respond to flood and landslides,” says the UN scientific and educational body in respect of the relevance of those discoveries.
On the Yunyang Geopark, scientists note that the park is renowned for the world’s largest Jurassic fossil and Jurassic single-body dinosaur fossil walls at a length of 18.2 kilometers and dramatic karst landforms.
“The fossils found here are of global scientific importance, as they help fill a significant knowledge gap in the evolution of dinosaurs during the middle Jurassic period, especially its early part,” a statement issued by the China National Forestry and Grassland Administration explains.
The statement adds that the Kanbula Geopark, covering 3,149.34 square kilometers in the Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and situated on the northeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, reflects the uplift of the Plateau, and shifts in climate and environment.
The park showcases dynamic geological processes dating back to the Tertiary period, including surface and subsurface activity in the transition zone between China’s first and second-level landforms.
Significantly, sustainable development has always been a hotspot in the Asian giant’s geographical research work, and anchored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
A survey by the UNESCO Secretariat in 2024 indicated that many geoparks face significant challenges in engaging local populations, conducting specialised research, and addressing the impacts of climate change on ecosystems and heritage sites.
Consequently, China is leaving no stone unturned as it steps up efforts to strengthen research studies, climate resilience and community engagement to preserve its iconic geoparks.
The country is working assiduously under the two pillars of the UNESCO International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme, as well as International Geoscience Programme to maximise the impact of its research studies.
The primary objective is to promote local sustainable development based on three key strategies – geotourism, geoconservation, and education.
One notable project being undertaken by the authorities is to safeguard the Shilin Stone Forest in Yunnan, a geological wonder formed in ancient times.
Once covered by an ancient sea, it is now home to stunning karst pillars, which have earned the site a global recognition as a UNESCO Global Geopark and UNESCO World Heritage site.
Under the auspices of the “Conservation and Management of World Heritage Sites in China” project, being implemented by UNESCO in collaboration with the China Youth Development Foundation and the Mercedes-Benz Star Fund, the authorities are working to protect the region’s unique landscapes and cultural heritage.
The agenda is to promote positive change by empowering local communities and fostering sustainable development.
Ang Zhaoqiong, the head of an ethnic clothing company, tells the media that the UNESCO Shilin Pilot Project has allowed her to transform her small-scale operation, primarily selling lace, embroidered patches, and clothing accessories, into a company with a registered trademark and thriving e-commerce activity.
Her production has more than tripled in six years, enabling her to dedicate herself to designing top-of-the-range ethnic clothing as she revives indigenous culture.
Additionally, the project is supporting local economic development by structuring the Yi (Sani) embroidery craft through standards, as well as atlas listing more than 200 traditional patterns.
This has led to a protected geographical indication for Sani embroidery and the training of many craftspeople.
Moreover, significant advances have been made in the preservation and management of the Stone Forest, including a Geographic Information System, and a comprehensive database to improve site monitoring and tourism management.
Initiatives such as the modernisation of information panels, including the Word Heritage emblem by UNESCO, and guide training have also helped to improve visitor experience, balancing tourism development with the well-being of local communities.
A man believed to be in his late 30s has been electrocuted while allegedly attempting to steal an earth cable from an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) substation at Adoato, near the Metro Mass Transit Station in the Ashanti Region.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025, led to a power outage affecting several areas in Greater Kumasi.
According to Benjamin Obeng Antwi, Public Relations Officer for ECG Ashanti West, the man reportedly tried to tamper with the earth cable, triggering the fatal shock.
ECG says this is the latest in a string of theft and vandalism cases targeting critical infrastructure, including transformers, cables, and protective equipment. The company has warned that such activities not only disrupt electricity supply but also endanger lives.
“We humbly appeal to the general public, especially individuals involved in this illegal act to desist from this illegal act, because this illegal acts affect the provision of stable power supply in the region and could also lead to the loss of lives as we saw this morning ,” Obeng Antwi, reiterated in an interview with Channel One News.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has been notified and is handling the removal of the body and subsequent investigations. ECG engineers are working to restore power to affected customers.

According to a report published by Gharapic Online April 19, 2025, as Ghana’s President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, marks his first 100 days back in office (April 16, 2025), there is growing optimism across the country.
His administration has hit the ground running, winning praise for bold reforms, swift policy action, and a clear direction.
But as with every visionary leader, the engine behind the early successes is a team of competent ministers who have quickly established themselves as key figures in this renewed presidency.
Among the standout performers is Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation.
A known advocate for digital inclusion, Sam George has emerged as a driving force behind Ghana’s tech transformation.
He is the only minister to have hosted a full-scale press briefing, offering the public an in-depth look into his roadmap for innovation.
In just 100 days, he has already launched the “One Million Coders Program,” an ambitious initiative aimed at empowering one million young Ghanaians with market-ready digital skills.
Understanding the burden of high data costs on citizens, he has also inaugurated a strategic committee to tackle the persistent challenge of expensive internet services in the country.
His grasp of the telecommunications industry and his proactive leadership have positioned him as a standout figure in Mahama’s cabinet.
Equally instrumental is Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister for Finance.
Hailed by insiders as one of the president’s “mighty men,” Dr. Forson is the architect of the so-called Relief Budget of the Fourth Republic.
This budget has already eliminated several widely unpopular taxes, including the COVID-19 levy, betting tax, E-levy, and emissions tax.
The move has injected fresh energy into businesses and brought economic relief to everyday Ghanaians.
Beyond tax relief, Dr. Forson has overseen the clearance of long-standing arrears owed to nursing trainees, while also securing sustainable funding for the Free SHS program — a flagship policy central to Ghana’s education agenda.
As President Mahama closes this symbolic 100-day chapter, it is clear that he has surrounded himself with action-oriented, visionary leaders.
With Sam George leading the digital charge and Ato Forson stabilizing the economic front, Ghanaians are watching the new administration with renewed hope — and cautious optimism that the early gains may mark the beginning of a transformational era.

His Majesty Nayiri Naa Bohaga Mahami Abdulai Sheriga
The Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Kingdom, His Majesty Nayiri Naa Bohaga Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, has forcefully spoken out against the recent outbreak of violence in the Bawku Traditional Area, condemning the actions of certain youth groups and urging the government to take swift and decisive action.
Speaking to the media, the Nayiri expressed deep concern over the escalation of lawlessness, which he said has caused significant distress among the people of Mamprugu.
“The unlawful acts perpetrated by certain Kusasi youth—including assaults, violence against state property, and threats to the lives of security personnel—have greatly alarmed and distressed the peace-loving people of Mamprugu,” he stated.
The revered traditional leader lamented the growing threat to regional stability, particularly from extremist elements operating in areas surrounding Bawku.
“National efforts to restore Bawku to its rightful status as a hub of commerce and harmony are further threatened by the destabilizing activities of terrorists operating within the Binduri, Pusiga, Garu, and Bawku West Districts. Their actions jeopardize the stability of the entire Northern Corridor,” he said.
In a direct appeal to national authorities, the Nayiri called for an urgent increase in security deployment to the troubled area.
He emphasized the need for adequate logistics and resources for both police and military personnel, echoing concerns reportedly raised by commanders on the ground.
“Increase security personnel and logistics by addressing the concerns raised by the police and military command in Bawku regarding insufficient manpower and resources.
Deploying the required number of personnel to maintain law and order, though costly, is a more prudent investment than bearing the far greater cost of insecurity.
Ensure that security forces operate without undue political interference, enabling them to pursue and apprehend known criminals who are disrupting the peace,” he urged.

Ibrahim Mahama Does the Unexpected Again As He Donates Over GHC 80,000 to Late Adwenpahene’s Family
News Hub Creator42min
Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist, Ibrahim Mahama, has once again warmed hearts with a generous donation to the family of the late TikTok star, Evans Amankwah, popularly known as Adwenpahene.
Although he remained silent in the early days after the TikToker’s death, Ibrahim Mahama has now stepped in to show his support in a big way. He donated more than GHC 80,000 to the bereaved family to help them during this difficult time. The money was delivered through popular NDC communicator Appiah Stadium, who acted on behalf of the businessman.
Adwenpahene, who was based in Germany, sadly passed away due to health complications caused by high blood pressure. His sudden death shocked many fans and loved ones, both in Ghana and abroad.
What makes this gesture even more touching is the deep bond Adwenpahene shared with Ibrahim Mahama. It is reported that the TikToker admired the businessman so much that he even named one of his children after him. This clearly shows the level of respect and admiration he had for Ibrahim Mahama.
Though the businessman couldn’t attend the funeral in person, his donation speaks volumes. Many Ghanaians have praised him for always standing by people in need, whether he knows them personally or not.
This act of kindness adds to the long list of good things Ibrahim Mahama has done for individuals and communities across Ghana. He continues to show that real success is not just about wealth, but about helping others when they need it most.
Ghanaians on social media have described him as a true “Agyenkwa” – a savior – for always showing up when it matters most.
According to reports, Ghanaian media personality, Captain Smart, has offered new insights into why Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo formally requested to review petitions submitted to President John Mahama seeking her removal from office.
During an interview on TV XYZ, Captain Smart stated that the Chief Justice’s move was far from a procedural gesture. According to him, she had prior knowledge of a petition that was filed against her during former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration. That document, he claimed, originated from a political appointee under Akufo-Addo, who allegedly sought her dismissal.
With this background, Captain Smart suggested that Chief Justice Torkornoo’s recent letter to President Mahama stemmed from a desire to clarify whether the new petitions were distinct or simply a reintroduction of the earlier complaints. Her intent, he said, was to ensure transparency and fairness in the process being undertaken.
This revelation provides further context to the Chief Justice’s decision, which has drawn public attention and sparked debates about the legitimacy and motivation behind the calls for her removal. It also raises questions about potential political undertones influencing the matter.
As the legal process unfolds, all eyes remain on President Mahama and the Council of State, who are expected to determine the next steps. Meanwhile, the Chief Justice has already issued her official response to the petitions, in accordance with constitutional procedures.
Captain Smart’s comments have amplified public interest in the case, adding a new layer of scrutiny to what many see as a politically sensitive issue.

Convener of the One Ghana Movement, Senyo Hosi has called for an investigation into the circumstances where foreign nationals who are engaged in illegal small-scale mining created their own community.
Senyo Hosi says this is a national security threat that must be taken seriously.
Speaking on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, April 19, he said “It is a national security issue, are we really safe as a country that we actually have foreign nationals create their own communities.
After taking some time off due to ill health, Ghana’s Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is back in the spotlight—and she just dropped a touching Easter message that’s got people talking.

In a major operation led by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), 219 people—mostly foreign nationals—have been rescued from a suspected human trafficking and cybercrime ring operating out of Oyarifa, a suburb of Accra.
The victims, predominantly young West Africans, were lured into Ghana with false promises of lucrative jobs and a better life. Instead, they were held in captivity under harsh and exploitative conditions.

At a press briefing, EOCO’s Acting Executive Director, Abdul Bashiru, disclosed that some victims had been detained for over a year. “A Nigerian victim told us he was fed only once a day and denied any freedom of movement,” Bashiru said.
Authorities uncovered a cache of evidence, including laptops, internet routers, and other devices believed to be used in online fraud schemes. The victims were found living in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions and were forced to work long hours under constant surveillance.
EOCO, working alongside the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Nigerian High Commission, and international partners, has launched a comprehensive screening process to distinguish victims from suspects and to identify minors among those rescued.
Journalists covering the operation at Kunzak Estates captured scenes of the rescued individuals being screened and resting at EOCO’s premises. Officials say the screening process is expected to conclude within 24 hours.
Bashiru reaffirmed EOCO’s commitment to dismantling the entire trafficking network. “We’ve mapped out strategies for stronger collaboration with the CID to step up efforts against transnational organized crime,” he said.
Repatriation plans are already underway, particularly for Nigerian victims. EOCO also confirmed that similar operations are being launched in other parts of the country to target what it described as a “well-coordinated trafficking network.”

Nigerian media personality and filmmaker, Stephanie Coker Aderinokun, has revealed that she once contemplated suicide following a failed IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) procedure, despite spending approximately $40,000 on the process.
Speaking in an interview on the “With Chude” podcast, Stephanie Coker recounted the emotional and financial toll the fertility journey had on her, stating that the disappointment from a failed attempt left her on the brink of despair.
According to the media personality, having gotten pregnant on her first try, she felt that she was on the right path, only to be met with devastation when the second attempt failed.
“It was a costly decision to decide on IVF, we are talking about $40,000 back then. I got pregnant on the first IVF and the second one failed and I wanted to stand in front of a car and just let the car hit me,” she said.
Stephanie Coker further explained that she travelled to Los Angeles to undergo the procedure and was devastated after receiving a call from a nurse who delivered the heartbreaking news.
She added that she felt so useless and was asking herself many questions and how she would be able to return to Lagos without a baby.
“I hated myself then because I felt I had travelled to Los Angeles to get pregnant, and the nurse called me to say, ‘Hi Stephanie, I am sorry to give you this bad news.’ I told the nurse I couldn’t go back home with no baby. I asked myself, ‘What did I spend all this money and time on?’” she said.

Private legal practitioner Austin Kwabena Brako-Powers has issued a scathing critique of President John Dramani Mahama’s approach to the fight against illegal small-scale mining, widely known as galamsey.
In a strongly worded Facebook post, Brako-Powers questioned the government’s sincerity and strategy, warning that the president’s legacy after 2028 would be shaped by how he tackles the escalating environmental crisis.
“John Dramani Mahama’s pathetic handling of galamsey will define his legacy after 2028. If he’s genuinely committed to this fight, as he touted on campaign tours during the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, Ghanaians would be given clear timelines to end this menace that is becoming a national disaster,” he wrote.
Brako-Powers expressed disbelief over the administration’s decision to deploy unarmed civilians under the newly introduced Water Guard initiative, describing the move as careless and illogical.
“What is Water Guard, in God’s name? I’m shocked that the first thing any serious government would do is train and deploy unarmed civilians into territories dominated by heavily armed and dangerous people. Something is wrong with how our leaders think — both in opposition and in government,” he said.
According to him, the solution to ending galamsey lies not in cosmetic interventions but in genuine political will and decisive leadership.
He argued that if the president truly wanted to bring the crisis under control, he could act immediately.
“Mahama can end galamsey today if he’s truly committed to it. I don’t see this government winning the fight because I don’t see any serious commitment.
When I hear government appointees talk about the issue, I see INSINCERITY, DISHONESTY, and FANTASTIC LIES,” he charged.
Calling on the nation’s youth to take a stand, Brako-Powers urged a collective awakening to the long-term impact of illegal mining on Ghana’s future.
“The youth must rise! The youth must wise up! This is not funny anymore. This is the only HOME we have. Let’s make it better!” he concluded.

Each Minority Member Contributed Only GHC2,200 For The Donation – Kevin Taylor Reveals
News Hub Creator20h
The Minority Caucus’ much-publicized GHC200,000 donation to Adum Blue Light Market fire victims has sparked fresh controversy thanks to controversial media personality Kevin Ekow Taylor. Taylor claims that only GHC2,200 was contributed by each of the 88 Minority Members of Parliament to the total sum. During his program “With All Due Respect,” he made the claim and questioned whether such a contribution demonstrates genuine concern or merely political optics.
“These are MPs who are paid handsomely every month and have allowances and privileges, but this is all they could offer when people have lost everything they were able to earn?” He asked in a satirical way. This assertion was made during the three-hour broadcast from 55:00 to 18:00. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader, made the donation in Kumasi. He expressed his condolences to the victims and urged the government to use the Contingency Fund as well. Traders, through their chairman Joseph Bobie Ansah, received the support with gratitude, describing it as a timely relief.
But Kevin Taylor’s comments have triggered a wave of conversation online and within political circles. Now, a lot of Ghanaians are wondering if GHC2,200 per MP truly reflects the level of compassion and accountability that is expected of elected officials in times of national emergency. Critics contend that lawmakers’ insufficient contribution is disappointing in a time when market women and everyday citizens frequently give beyond their means to assist those in need. Others, however, believe any support should be acknowledged and seen as a gesture of solidarity.
Still, Taylor’s criticism highlights a deeper concern: whether the people’s representatives are truly living up to their mandate not just through legislation and speeches, but through meaningful action when it matters most.
The focus now shifts from what was given to what could have been or should have been as the victims of the fire begin the challenging process of rebuilding.
Fashion enthusiasts often seek inspiration from traditional attire because these outfits showcase rich cultural aesthetics. Many women appreciate the vibrant colors and intricate patterns found in native designs, making them a popular choice for special occasions. The use of bold fabrics like Ankara, Kente, or Shweshwe allows for creativity, as each material tells a unique story through its motifs. Tailors and designers skillfully transform these fabrics into stunning dresses, skirts, and blouses, ensuring every piece stands out.
Flowing gowns with elaborate embroidery are particularly eye-catching, as they combine elegance with cultural pride. Accessories like beaded necklaces, gele headwraps, and embellished sandals complete the look, adding a touch of sophistication. Modern adaptations of traditional wear make these outfits versatile, suitable for weddings, festivals, or even formal events. Layering techniques, such as pairing a lace buba with a wrapper skirt, create a balanced yet striking appearance.
The careful selection of complementary colors enhances the overall appeal, ensuring harmony in the ensemble. Women who replicate these styles often receive admiration for their attention to detail and respect for cultural fashion. Social media platforms have made it easier to discover new designs, allowing fashion lovers to share and recreate outfits from different regions. Whether opting for a fitted silhouette or a loose, flowing design, native outfits offer endless possibilities for self-expression. By embracing these styles, women not only celebrate heritage but also contribute to the global appreciation of traditional craftsmanship. The beauty of these outfits lies in their ability to merge tradition with contemporary trends, making them timeless fashion statements.
“Our nation shall rise again!” That is the hopeful declaration from President John Mahama as he expressed confidence in Ghana’s economic recovery, envisioning a future where the youth find opportunities and families thrive.
Delivering a sermon at the Good Friday Miracle Service organised by the Lighthouse Chapel International at the Black Star Square, he said the national restoration hinges on unity, truth, and the collective effort of all citizens.
He also urged Christians and people of all faiths to show generosity and compassion, particularly towards the less fortunate.
“There are many around us who are struggling, not just spiritually, but also physically. Some are struggling emotionally, and some are struggling materially, and that’s why Christ expects us to share generously. There are others too who have abundant- you ate breakfast, you ate lunch before coming here, and you go back home, and there’s fufu and lightsoup and aponkye waiting for you. We must learn to share the burdens of others, and so as we reflect on the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us, let us ask ourselves, what sacrifices are we making for others?
“I believe with all my heart that our dear nation, Ghana, shall rise again. Our economy shall recover. Our youth will find opportunity, our families will flourish and thrive. But that restoration will require that all of us work together in unity and in truth. That will make our nation rise again in”, declared President Mahama.

Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo appears to be nearing the end of her tenure, as significant constitutional processes are underway that may lead to her suspension and eventual removal from office in the coming weeks.
Following a prima facie case established against her for alleged misconduct and abuse of power, a tribunal is expected to be set up to investigate the claims.
Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare and Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo
Renowned US-based Ghanaian lawyer and scholar, Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare, popularly known as Kwaku Azar, has defended his petition for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
In a post shared on Facebook on Friday, April 18, 2025, Kwaku Azar indicated that there is nothing wrong with the petition he filed for the removal of Justice Torkornoo or her supposed suspension by President John Dramani Mahama following his petition.
He pointed out that this is not the first time a public official has been suspended in a similar situation, citing the example of Lauretta Lamptey, a former Commissioner of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice.
“Time will tell nothing. We have always insisted on punishing wrongdoers. Did Annoh Dompreh not petition Mahama to remove Lauretta Lamptey from CHRAJ? Did Mahama not appoint a committee after Nyamah’s petition scaled the prima facie hurdle?
“Did Mahama not suspend her during the pendency of the committee’s work? And did he not remove her, acting on the advice of the committee even though Lamptey was an NDC appointee? Did some faceless people not petition for the removal of Commissioner Osei? Was she not removed by Akufo-Addo? What exactly has changed?” he quizzed.
He indicated that Chief Justice Torkornoo cannot continue to be in office because of her actions, including her supposed interference in the selection of justices of the Supreme Court.
“We should retain a CJ who is in the backroom negotiating with a president on who should be on the Supreme Court panel? Because, what?”
About the petition for Justice Torkornoo’s removal:
President Mahama had given Justice Torkornoo ten working days to respond to the three separate petitions calling for her removal from office.
In a letter dated March 27, 2025, Justice Torkornoo requested copies of the petitions and asked for at least seven days to respond, in line with due process requirements.
Prior to this, President Mahama began consultations with the Council of State following the submission of the three petitions seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo.
According to a statement from the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the petitions were forwarded to the Council of State in accordance with the constitutional procedure outlined in Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.
While the details of the petitions remain undisclosed, the development marks the beginning of a formal process that could potentially lead to significant changes within Ghana’s judicial system.
Chief Justice Torkornoo’s response
Chief Justice Torkornoo submitted her official response to the petitions seeking her removal from office as of Monday, April 7, 2025.
According to a report by 3news.com, Justice Torkornoo submitted her response to President John Dramani Mahama and the Council of State before the expiration of a 10-day deadline given by the president after the petitions were filed.
The report noted that with her response now submitted, the Council of State will begin the review process to determine whether a prima facie case exists to warrant further proceedings.
