110 Ghanaian scholars in UK face deportation over unpaid fees

0

About 110 Ghanaian PhD students studying in the United Kingdom under the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat (GSS) sponsorship are facing imminent deportation and expulsion from their respective universities due to prolonged non-payment of tuition fees and stipends, some outstanding for up to four years.

In a statement dated November 9, 2025, and addressed to Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Sabah Zita Benson, the group said the situation had reached “a perilous stage,” with several of their members already evicted from accommodation, barred from classes, or facing Home Office deportation notices.

According to the cohort, stipends ranging between £1,023 and £1,200 a month have not been paid for several months, leaving some students unable to afford rent, food, or transportation.

“Some of our members are owed as much as 48 months in stipends, meaning they have not received any payment since the start of their PhD programme,” the statement noted.

The group also revealed that an estimated 10 students have been formally withdrawn from their universities due to unpaid tuition fees, while others are unable to register for the 2025/2026 academic year because their renewal letters and progression reviews have not been issued by the Scholarships Secretariat.

“For nearly 10 months, we have had neither the progression review nor the renewal letters from the GSS. This has resulted in our inability to register for this academic year, of which we are already two months into the study year,” the statement said.

The affected scholars indicated that about £400,000 is needed to sustain their studies for the ongoing academic year, but so far, government efforts to clear arrears have been “woefully inadequate.”

The students further lamented that some of their colleagues who travelled to Ghana for data collection had been refused re-entry into the UK because their universities had reported unpaid tuition fees to immigration authorities.

They have therefore appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and Ghana’s new High Commissioner to the UK to intervene urgently to avert what they described as an impending humanitarian and diplomatic embarrassment.

“We are of the firm belief that students should not face the consequences for administrative errors and indiscretions made by public officials,” the statement read.

The group also acknowledged efforts by the government to reform the scholarship system to ensure transparency and fairness, but stressed that the current crisis demands immediate redress.

Ghanaian highlife singer and songwriter Samuel Ofori Amponsah has appealed to the family of legendary musician Daddy Lumba to resolve their differences in order to protect and preserve the legacy of the music icon.

Speaking in an interview on Onua FM on November 9, 2025, Ofori Amponsah stated that controversies surrounding great personalities often become distractions that diminish appreciation for their contributions to society.

According to him, Daddy Lumba’s musical journey and immense influence on Ghana’s entertainment industry cannot be overstated, and it is only fitting that his legacy be handled with care and unity among those closest to him.

“Looking at his greatness, Daddy Lumba’s gift was so big. There’s always a controversy around someone who is great. Everyone wants a piece of him,” he said.

He noted that conflicts and public disagreements among family members could have long-term effects on how future generations perceive the highlife legend and his contributions to Ghanaian music.

Daddy Lumba once told me that I’m a star and I will become like him – Ofori Amponsah

“I think, for the sake of his legacy, his family and loved ones should understand that controversies can affect how his legacy is perceived. It can also influence how people feel about him after his death and the support we are willing to give them,” he shared.

He emphasised that unity within Daddy Lumba’s family is crucial, not only for peace but also for ensuring that the music icon’s achievements are celebrated and remembered appropriately.

Ofori Amponsah further proposed that a museum be established in Daddy Lumba’s honour to showcase his works, artifacts, and milestones, inspiring future generations of musicians and music lovers.

“I will urge the family to solve their differences so we can move forward. All I want is unity.

“I would be disappointed if such a great person, with a legacy that would remain relevant to the next generation, is not honoured. A museum in his honour would keep his legacy alive for generations,” he added.

‘You don’t have the right to tell me what to do’ – Ahiafor tells Habib

Bernard Ahiafor (R) refused a request by Habib Iddrisu (L) during Chief Justice vetting Bernard Ahiafor (R) refused a request by Habib Iddrisu (L) during Chief Justice vetting

The early stages of the vetting of Chief Justice nominee Paul Baffoe-Bonnie by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, November 10, 2025, saw a brief disagreement between the Committee Chairman, Bernard Ahiafor, and the First Deputy Minority Whip, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu.

The incident occurred when Chairman Ahiafor, at the start of the proceedings, directed the Clerk of the Committee to lead nominee Justice Baffoe-Bonnie in taking the oath.

Minority moves to stop Paul Baffoe-Bonnie’s vetting

Ahiafor referred to Justice Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice rather than Chief Justice nominee, which some aggrieved committee members felt was inappropriate.

The remark briefly sparked a noisy atmosphere, seemingly disrupting the proceedings.

Ahiafor called for order, citing Parliament’s standing orders, which require a member who wishes to speak to “catch the eye of the Speaker or Chairman.”

“When you have an issue, the practice is that you catch the eye of the Speaker and, in this case, the eye of the Chairman. You don’t have the right to ask anybody to stop proceedings for you to say whatever you want to say. Honorable members, the idea is: why should I refer to him as Chief Justice but not Chief Justice nominee?” he said.

In response, Alhaji Habib was granted permission to speak and express his concerns.

According to him, Ahiafor’s reference to Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice rather than Chief Justice nominee would be recorded in the Hansard, prompting him to call on Ahiafor to have the remark expunged.

“Initially, you said the clerk should swear in the Chief Justice, and this is Parliament, so for the record of Parliament, that will be captured. If you are correcting it, then direct that your earlier statement should be expunged from the record,” he suggested.

In rebuttal, Ahiafor stated that his colleague did not have the authority to give him instructions and therefore refused to comply.

LIVESTREAMING: Vetting of Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice nominee

“Unfortunately, you don’t have the right to tell me what I should do. Once the correction has been made, may we proceed to administer the oath,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Committee is expected to ask Justice Baffoe-Bonnie questions about his qualifications, experience, and vision for his role as Chief Justice.

Matching Outfits for Families in 2025

0

In recent years, the idea of wearing matching outfits as a family has become a heartwarming and fashionable trend across the world. From family photoshoots to holiday celebrations and Sunday outings, coordinating clothes among parents and children has evolved beyond a style statement it’s now a symbol of unity, love, and identity.

Family matching outfits are increasingly being embraced by designers and fashion brands who are recognizing the emotional and aesthetic appeal of this movement. These outfits, often available in various patterns, colors, and styles, allow families to express a shared bond through clothing while still maintaining individual charm. Whether it’s matching African prints, denim looks, or casual tees with the same slogan, the concept is growing in both urban and rural communities.

One reason behind the popularity of matching family outfits is their visual appeal in photos and special events. Many families choose them for weddings, birthdays, vacations, and Christmas celebrations to create lasting memories. Social media has also played a major role in promoting this fashion trend, as influencers and celebrities frequently showcase beautifully coordinated family looks that inspire others to follow suit.

Beyond aesthetics, matching outfits convey a sense of belonging and teamwork. They subtly communicate family values and affection while reinforcing identity, especially in children. Wearing similar clothes helps children feel included, proud, and confident as part of a loving unit.

Fashion designers are now creating collections that cater to families, offering matching pieces for fathers, mothers, and children in comfortable, stylish, and versatile fabrics. Local designers in Ghana, Nigeria, and across Africa are blending traditional fabrics like kente, ankara, and batik with modern styles to make family coordination both elegant and culturally meaningful.

Moreover, matching outfits have become a way for families to make public statements about unity and shared purpose. They reflect harmony in diversity, showing that togetherness can be celebrated in simple yet powerful ways.

Coup plotter sentenced to death, Bright Debrah granted GH¢2.5m bail

One of the six persons sentenced to death by hanging for attempting to overthrow the government, Bright Alan Debrah Ofosu, has been granted bail pending the hearing of his appeal.

The High Court granted Debrah bail to the tune of GH¢2.5 million, with two sureties to be justified, allowing him temporary freedom while his appeal is determined.

Debrah, a fleet manager by profession, was one of six individuals convicted on counts of conspiracy to commit high treason and committing high treason in November 2023. The court found the group guilty of plotting to destabilise the country and overthrow the constitutionally elected government.

The six convicted persons—Donya Kafui, alias Ezor (a blacksmith); Bright Alan Debrah Ofosu; Johannes Zikpi (a civilian employee of the Ghana Armed Forces); and three soldiers, WO II Esther Saan Dekuwine, L/Cpl Ali Solomon, and Cpl Sylvester Akanpewon—were sentenced to death by hanging following a lengthy trial.

The case, which has been one of the most high-profile treason trials in Ghana’s recent history, also saw the acquittal of ACP Dr. Benjamin Agordzo, Colonel Samuel Kodzo Gameli, and Corporal Seidu Abubakar, who were found not guilty of abetment and conspiracy charges.

The conviction followed years of legal proceedings that began in April 2021, when the accused were first charged with various counts of high treason, abetment, and conspiracy. The prosecution, led by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, called 13 witnesses, including seven military officers, during the trial.

How can NPP attract new members if I’m called an ‘outsider’ and ‘slave’? – Bawumia asks

0

Ghana’s former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed disgust at comments that suggest that he is an outsider and a slave in the New Patriotic Party.

These comments were made by the Asante Akim South MP, Kwaku Asante Boateng.

Dr Bawumia, during his campaign tour of the Oti Region on Sunday, found the comments distasteful and wondered how the party is going to attract new members if some leading members hold such a mentality.

He reminded the party of its tradition, values, and principles that have guided it since the formation of the party from the United Party era to a more formidable force in the country’s political arena today.

He questioned, “If Dr. Bawumia, after 17 years of service to the party, is described as an outsider and stranger, how do we grow the party to attract new members from all parts of Ghana?”

Bawumia urged the party to desist from propounding such bigotry as it threatens unity in the party.

“Today, some of my opponents say I am an outsider and a stranger, who does not deserve to lead the party because of where I come from. This is dangerous, divisive”, he emphasised.

Private Sector Ally In Dev’t – Alex Dadey

0

Alex Apau Dadey

The Executive Chairman of the KGL Group of Companies, Alex Apau Dadey, has urged the government to view the private sector as a strategic partner in national development rather than a competitor.

Speaking at the 2025 Alumni Lecture of the University of Ghana, Legon, Mr. Dadey stressed that the time had come for the country to “move beyond seeing the private sector as a rival, and instead recognise it as a vital ally in national development.”

Mr. Dadey argued that sustainable growth lies in Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) anchored on responsible corporate citizenship, where business success contributes directly to social and economic progress.

“You see, in every thriving economy, there comes a point where the government can no longer do it alone. The private sector must not only be involved. It must lead, but it cannot do so in isolation,” he said.

He further asserted that the country’s economic independence would not come from foreign aid but from ownership of resources, industries, and ideas driven by Ghanaians for Ghanaians.

“It is the private sector that creates wealth, not governments,” he emphasised.

Delivering his lecture on the theme, Public-Private Partnership – A Case Study of Responsible Corporate Citizenship,” Mr. Dadey called for a national shift in mindset and policy to empower the private sector as a co-driver of progress.

He urged policymakers and business leaders to embrace collaboration rooted in trust, shared value, and national interest.

Beyond economics, Mr. Dadey underscored the importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in promoting ethical and sustainable business practices.

He pointed to the KGL Foundation’s contributions in youth empowerment, education, health, arts, culture, and sports as tangible examples of responsible corporate citizenship.

Mr. Dadey appealed for a united front across all sectors (public, private, and diaspora) to redefine the nation’s development model.

“The government cannot do it alone. Businesses cannot do it alone. Academia cannot do it alone. Communities cannot do it alone. However, together, when we bring our ideas, our resources, our knowledge, and our will, we can ignite transformation that will echo for generations. The time for convenience is past. This is the hour for conviction and partnership,” he declared.

GH¢500m needed to tackle food glut – Eric Opoku

0

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has disclosed that the government will require about GH¢500 million to address the ongoing oversupply of farm produce, commonly referred to as a food glut.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, November 10, 2025, Mr. Opoku stressed the importance of a coordinated and data-driven approach in resolving the issue, warning that inaction could discourage farmers from reinvesting in agriculture.

“You do not just get up and move into a farm because there is a glut. You need to move there with your technical team to ascertain the amount of farm produce to be procured.

“From the figures we are receiving, we will need about GH¢500 million to be able to clear it,” he said.

The Minister revealed that his outfit is in discussions with the World Food Programme and other development partners to explore strategies for managing the glut and preventing future occurrences.

“If we are able to deal with it properly, it can encourage our farmers to reinvest in farming because it becomes profitable. But if we don’t act and allow these foods to go to waste, it will be a huge loss of the century, and people will be demotivated to invest in agriculture,” Mr. Opoku added.

The government’s move forms part of broader efforts to stabilise food prices, protect farmers’ livelihoods, and ensure sustainable agricultural production nationwide.

69th Grammy Awards: Ghana misses out as nominations drop

“I believe there are so many things that we do not know about the Grammys. There is some education that we need, and as time goes on, we will get it. It is a growing industry that we have,” he said.

Black Sherif, who submitted entries for the African Music Performance and Best Global Music Album categories at the 2026 Grammys, disclosed that missing out on the nomination did not affect him personally.

“I would have been happy if they nominated me, but it didn’t even shift me when I was not nominated. I am not pushed, I’m not touched,” he stated.

The artiste, who has also been tipped to win multiple categories at the 2026 TGMA, including Artiste of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Album of the Year, said he believes he deserves recognition for his work.

He further noted that awards hold a different kind of importance for fans compared to himself as an artiste.

“My fans would be happy, and the awards, mostly if I want it, I want it for the fans. It is a validation for them. My validation is in the music, but the community that supports me, they need the awards,” he added.

The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB PLC) Ladies Association has climaxed this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the “Pink Ladies Soirée.” The event formed part of the association’s commitment to promoting women’s health and wellness, while creating awareness on the prevention and early detection of breast cancer.

The colourful event, held on 31st October 2025, brought together staff from various departments and branches of the Bank, as well as invited guests. It was also attended by health professionals and breast cancer survivors, including Miriam Abla Anani and Georgina Setorwu Kumah-Dzagah, who shared their stories from diagnosis to treatment and recovery.

He noted that initiatives such as the Pink Ladies Soirée are not only symbolic but essential in building a workplace culture that prioritizes awareness, prevention, and support.

Sarpong stressed that encouraging open conversations about health issues, especially breast cancer, helps break stigmas and promotes early screening and treatment. He commended the ADB Ladies Association for championing women’s health and aligning their efforts with the Bank’s corporate value of being purpose driven.

He also announced a cash donation of Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS20,000.00) on behalf of the Bank to the Flames of Hope Foundation in support of breast cancer awareness and management programmes.

The President of the ADB Ladies Association, Bridget Lekanong Nuotuo Kaminta, encouraged staff to extend the message of awareness beyond the event by supporting breast cancer initiatives and prioritizing regular health screenings for themselves and their families.

“The fight against breast cancer extends far beyond the month of October. It is a continuous effort that requires compassion and shared responsibility,” she said.

Other activities during the soirée included breast screening exercises conducted by the Trust and Islamic Hospitals.

‘We were robbed’ – Hearts of Oak supporters cry foul over Kotoko defeat

“African football is very special in terms of freedom, talent, and individuality. To the sea, bare naked around, so it was nice. Families live close to each other. Each time I go back to the sea, each time I speak to someone from the sea, it makes you see that life is tough. I’m proud of my roots and I hope one day I can give back to São Tomé something that São Tomé gave to me. If I’m an example for someone, I’m honoured, and it’s a privilege,” he said during an interview with BBC Africa.

Espirito Santo emphasised that there are many talented coaches in Africa, some of whom he has trained and learned from in the past.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss added that he would be delighted to coach São Tomé and Príncipe in the future and lead them to a major tournament if the opportunity arises.

“I think there are a lot of black men with talent. I had some African coaches spend weeks training and observing with me at various clubs. They come here to England to try and learn from us, but they can also teach us many good things. Good music, that’s for sure. But if I can be a part of something, I’ll be honoured,” he added.

GJA cautions Journalists on safety risks after EPA field accident

0

The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has cautioned journalists on the need to prioritise safety while covering illegal mining activities, following a road accident involving reporters on an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) assignment on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Afari near Nkawie.

In a statement signed by Kofi Adu Domfeh, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GJA, the association confirmed that all but one of the journalists involved in the accident have been discharged and are recovering steadily.

Those discharged include Ibrahim Abubakar (TV3/Akoma FM), Doris Lonta (Channel One TV), Nana Yaw Gyimah (Luv FM/JoyNews), and Joseph Obeng (Nhyira FM/Adom News).

The statement noted that Akwasi Adomako, a Camera Technician with JoyNews, underwent successful surgery on his right thigh on Saturday, November 8, and is currently recovering at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. The GJA extended wishes for his full and speedy recovery.

“We, therefore, urge journalists to always assess and clarify the level of risk before undertaking such assignments, including those in collaboration with anti-galamsey taskforces. Adequate security and safety measures must be guaranteed before venturing into high-risk zones,” the statement said.

The GJA expressed profound appreciation to journalists nationwide, members of the public, and the EPA for their solidarity and support during this challenging period. The association also highlighted the volatile nature of illegal mining sites in the Ashanti Region, where miners are often armed and prone to violence against anyone perceived as a threat.

“Let us remain vigilant. Let us demand protection. And above all, let us stay alive to continue telling the stories that matter,” the statement concluded.

NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Plays Drums for Otumfuo at Manhyia

  • Justin Kodua swapped a suit for a drum and joined the royal drummers at Manhyia during the Akwasidae Festival
  • He showed humility and respect for the Asante tradition by wearing a traditional cloth and drumming for the Asantehene
  • His participation sent a strong message about leadership, culture, and service beyond politics

Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, startled many on Sunday afternoon when he took up the role of a drummer during the Akwasidae Festival held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The colourful traditional ceremony, hosted by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was graced by high-profile dignitaries, chiefs, politicians, and guests from across the country.

The atmosphere was filled with rich cultural displays, traditional music, and dance, celebrating one of the most important festivals of the Asante Kingdom.

What turned out to be the high point of the occasion, however, was the unsolicited moment when Justin Kodua, one of the most visible faces of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), took a break from his fellow political companions and joined the drummers in Otumfuo’s royal procession during the festival.

The NPP General Secretary was seen actively playing the ‘Mpintin’ drums.

In a mark of humility and cultural reverence, Lawyer Kodua showed respect to the Golden Stool and the Asantehene.

He collaborated effortlessly with the professional drummers, beating drums in performance through the grounds of the palace.

Many who witnessed the gesture were impressed when the high-ranking politician so wholeheartedly embraced tradition.

The moment was captured on video, which has since gone viral across social media, with a number of users praising Kodua for proudly representing Asante culture.

He was deeply involved and passionate, filled with joy and respect as he joined in the drumming.

Justin Kodua, serving at Mahyia Palace, demonstrates that true leadership is all about humility, service, and not just politics, but also one’s roots.

This is the first time he has been seen serving at Manhyia, but he has been doing so on countless occasions, as he takes time off his busy schedule to serve the Asantehene, an act characterised by loyalty, discipline, and cultural identity.

What is the Akwasidae festival?

The Akwasidae Festival is a traditional ceremony celebrated by the Ashanti people of Ghana, typically every six weeks, to honour the Asantehene (the Ashanti King) and the ancestors of the Ashanti kingdom.

It is held on a Sunday (“Akwasi” means Sunday in Akan) and is part of the Ashanti Adae cycle of festivals.

It’s one of the distinguished and biggest festivals in the Asanteman and Ghana as a whole.

Bawumia challenges tribal bigotry, calls for inclusive leadership in NPP

0

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has challenged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rise above tribal divisions, warning that labelling capable leaders as outsiders threatens the party’s growth and unity.

Speaking during his campaign tour of the Oti Region on Sunday, Dr Bawumia addressed controversial remarks by Asante Akim South MP Kwaku Asante Boateng, who called him an outsider and questioned his suitability to lead the party as flagbearer.

“Today, some of my opponents say I am an outsider and a stranger, who does not deserve to lead the party because of where I come from. This is dangerous, divisive and contrary to the diversity of our unifying tradition,” he said, emphasising that the NPP’s roots in the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition unite all major tribes across Ghana.

Dr Bawumia questioned how the party can attract members nationwide if long-serving leaders are dismissed based on their origin. “If Dr Bawumia, after 17 years of service to the party, is described as an outsider and a stranger, how do we grow the party to attract new members from all parts of Ghana?”

He urged NPP members to vote based on competence rather than tribal background, stating, “It does not matter whether you are Dagomba, Ga, Dangbe, Sefwi, Ewe, Dagarti, Wala, Bono, Asante, Akyem, Kwahu, Mamprusi, Kusasi, Konkomba, Fante, Frafra, Guan or Gonja, Sisala, Kasena, Bimoba, Chakosi, etc.”

Dr Bawumia concluded by calling on supporters to back him in the party’s January primaries “to send a message to these tribal bigots that anyone from any part of the country can lead the party if you are capable.”

GH¢500m needed to tackle food glut

Sanitopia targets 10,000 sanitation projects in Africa by 2035

0

Sanitopia, a Ghanaian Community Interest Company (CIC) that focuses on building safe and clean spaces for communities across Africa, has set an ambitious goal to complete at least 10,000 sanitation projects in Africa by 2035 and expand its efforts across the African continent.

In partnership with the Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Nyarko Apem, it is driving a new sanitation initiative in Asikuma in the Eastern region aimed at improving community health and livelihoods.

The founder of Sanitopia, Richard Kojo Acheampong, told Joy Business that the Deputy Minister personally financed half of the project cost, underscoring the government’s growing collaboration with social businesses to tackle local challenges.

The project, which will be commissioned on November 14, 2025, was completed within 65 days, a feat Mr. Acheampong says reflects a shared commitment to efficiency and impact.

According to him, Sanitopia is on a mission to enhance health and improve the quality of life by constructing toilets and other sanitation facilities and by developing safe community spaces.

He pledged his commitment to build safe and clean spaces for communities across Ghana and Africa.

According to him, access to hygienic sanitation facilities is not just a necessity but a fundamental human right.

“Our long-term aim is to make these facilities available to every child of school-going age. These projects are designed not only to provide essential sanitation facilities but also to foster community engagement and empowerment”.

“My vision for Sanitopia is my way of honouring the community that shaped me and my wife. Every toilet built, every safe space created, is a reflection of the care and support we’ve received, and a promise to pass it forward to our children’s generations and the wider community. We invite you to be part of this journey”, he added.
Supporting Sustainability

For infrastructure projects to be sustainable and deliver tangible benefits to both communities and the environment, Mr. Acheampong said it is essential to ensure good governance, meaningful participation from civil society, and genuine accountability mechanisms.

He stressed that Sanitopia possesses the expertise necessary at all levels—from board members to frontline staff—to facilitate this process effectively.

“By focusing on these key areas—accountability, community engagement, and sustainability—we can work towards reversing the legacy of failed development efforts in Africa and fostering real improvements in the lives of local populations”, he added.

Driving Change

Mr. Acheampong pointed out that driving change in the community is his passion, since that will impact several people in the community.

Together with his wife, Joana Asare Acheampong, the couple funded and oversaw the construction of a state-of-the-art 12-seater modern washroom facility and the renovation of a 10-cubicle modern bathhouse for the Nkonya Senior High School girls’ dormitory.

The project, valued at over $30,000, was completed within four months and has already been handed over to the school.

‘I’m no stranger in NPP’

0

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has finally broken his silence on remarks by Asante Akim South MP, Kwaku Asante Boateng, who described him as a “stranger” in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and therefore unfit to lead the party as its flagbearer.

The comment, which drew widespread criticism from party members and the national secretariat, has been condemned as divisive and unworthy of the NPP’s democratic tradition.

Addressing delegates and party faithful during his tour of the Oti Region on Sunday, Dr Bawumia expressed deep disappointment, describing the comment as “dangerous and contrary to the NPP’s proud tradition of diversity.”

He reminded party members that the NPP traces its roots to the United Party (UP), a coalition of ethnic and regional groups from across Ghana, and that this inclusive heritage forms the foundation of the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition.

NPP Flagbearer Election: Choose Bawumia’s ‘rich ideas’ over money – Oti regional delegates urged

“Those who make such comments do not understand the history of our party. The UP was formed from the coming together of people from all walks of life — and that unity gave birth to the NPP,” he said.

“The NPP’s strength lies in its diversity. It does not matter whether you are Dagomba, Ga, Dangme, Sefwi, Ewe, Asante, or Kwahu — if you are capable, you can lead this party,” he stressed.

Dr Bawumia lamented that internal rivalry and hatred have driven some senior party members to resort to tribal attacks — a development he warned could undermine the NPP’s cohesion and public appeal.

Recounting his long service and sacrifices for the party, he said:

“I have served as running mate four times, as Vice President for two terms, and now as flagbearer. I have sacrificed, lost opportunities, and even risked my life for this party. So how can anyone call me a stranger?”

He urged delegates to reject divisive rhetoric and embrace unity, tolerance, and respect — values that he said define the NPP’s true identity.

“What we need is unity and mutual respect in our party and in Ghana. Let’s reject divisive talk and focus on building a stronger NPP that represents everyone,” he concluded.

MC Yaa Yeboah questions Ghana’s absence at the Grammys despite rich talent

0

MC Yaa Yeboah is a Ghanaian media personality MC Yaa Yeboah is a Ghanaian media personality

With Ghanaian artistes missing out on the 2026 Grammy Awards, media personality MC Yaa Yeboah has said she cannot understand why Ghana, with so much talent, continues to struggle to break into that level.

Speaking on Peace FM on November 8, 2025, she said Ghana remains one of the richest hubs of talent in Africa, with artistes who work hard and deliver quality music. Yet, she admitted she struggles to understand why those efforts are not translating into Grammy nominations.

MC Yaa Yeboah pointed out that although the country has not secured a nomination this year, it does not mean Ghanaian music has no chance on the global stage.

69th Grammy Awards: Ghana misses out as nominations drop

She described Reggae artiste Rocky Dawuni, a multiple Grammy nominee, as a breakthrough figure for the country and a reminder that global recognition is possible.

She went on to question whether members of the Recording Academy, who vote in the nomination process, are familiar enough with the Ghanaian music scene.

According to her, that lack of familiarity may be one of the reasons most Ghanaian artistes miss out.

“I believe Ghana is one of the most fertile grounds for talent in Africa. We have the talent, and our artistes put in the work, yet I keep asking myself why we still struggle to reach the Grammy stage. I don’t think all hope is lost because we have a stepping stone, Rocky Dawuni, who has been able to reach that level.

The possibility for any Ghanaian musician to earn a nomination is still high. But the Academy members who vote for songs to be nominated, is it that they don’t know the Ghanaian market well?” she said.

Nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards, set for February 1, 2026, were released on November 7, 2025. While several Ghanaian artistes submitted their works for consideration, none made it to the final list.

Submissions came from acts such as Black Sherif, M.anifest, Gyakie, Shatta Wale, MOGmusic, Epixode, and Kwaw Kese, with entries in categories including Best African Music Performance and Best Global Music Album.

However, this year’s shortlist features only non-Ghanaian artistes. The Best African Music Performance category includes Love by Burna Boy, With You by Davido featuring Omah Lay, Hope & Love by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin, Gimme Dat by Ayra Starr featuring Wizkid, and Push 2 Start by Tyla.

The government has, for the fourth consecutive week, missed its treasury auction target, falling short of the GH¢6.83 billion goal by approximately GH¢2.33 billion.

According to data from the Bank of Ghana, the government raised GH¢4.49 billion, representing a shortfall of 33%.

The 91-day bill cleared at 10.92 per cent, while the 182-day and 364-day bills rose to 12.61 per cent and 13.01 per cent, respectively.

The 91-day bill attracted GH¢3.61 billion in bids, followed by the 182-day bill with GH¢617 million, and the 364-day bill secured GH¢282 million.

Interest rates continued to rise along the yield curve, with analysts attributing the shortfall to low investor appetite for treasury bills compared to other short-term investment instruments.

With Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson expected to present the 2026 budget statement in Parliament on November 13, 2025, analysts are urging the government to allow rates to rise further to attract investors.

Why VAR would have awarded Hearts of Oak’s goal against Kotoko

0

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) is yet to be implemented in the GPL play videoThe Video Assistant Referee (VAR) is yet to be implemented in the GPL

The debate surrounding Accra Hearts of Oak’s disallowed goal against Asante Kotoko in the Super Clash has become a controversial topic.

Asante Kotoko won the game 1–0 after striker Morifing Donzo converted a first-half penalty.

Accra Hearts of Oak, who were slightly the better side in the second half thought they had secured an equaliser in the 90th minute through Mawuli Wayo but their celebrations were cut short by the referee.

Wayo’s goal was ruled out for offside by referee Reginald Collins Amoah, a decision that drew heavy criticisms from Hearts of Oak supporters at the stadium.

After a careful review of the incident on the replay, the goal would have been awarded if referee Reginald Amoah had VAR assistance.

‘We were robbed’ – Hearts of Oak supporters cry foul over Kotoko defeat

The replay shows that the Kotoko player in the green jersey got the final touch on the ball with a header.

The ball bounced back to Wayo, who had previously separated himself from the Kotoko defenders. He quickly reacted and slotted it into the net.

The assistant referee, who had earlier seen Wayo in an offside position, did not take into account which player had the last touch on the ball and quickly raised his flag for an offside, a decision the center referee upheld.

According to the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the laws of the game state: “Gaining an advantage: Gaining the ball or interfering with an opponent when the ball has rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar, or an opponent, or when the ball has been deliberately saved by an opponent.”

However, the referee likely would have overturned his decision to disallow Hearts of Oak’s goal if VAR had been available at the stadium.

Olivier Giroud’s Goal Comparison

This incident is similar to what happened in 2021 during Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium in Spain when Olivier Giroud scored a spectacular overhead kick.

The ball flicked off Mario Hermoso’s foot, and Giroud sprang into action to find the bottom corner in the 68th minute.

The goal was initially ruled out for an offside but after a lengthy VAR review lasting almost three minutes, the goal was awarded.

Former referee Walton explained the decision: “The VAR was deliberating whether the pass from the defender was a deliberate play on the ball or a deflection. If it was a deflection, then Giroud would still have been offside. But they agreed it was a deliberate play on the ball, which played Giroud onside.”

With this in mind, it is worth noting that the referees in the Kotoko vs Hearts of Oak game cannot be accused of cheating or fixing the match in favor of the Porcupines as there was no VAR available for a review, unlike in the Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea match in 2021.

Funny Face Angrily Blasts Vanessa Again After Leaving Kwaku Manu’s House

News Hub Creator1h

Ghanaian comedian and actor, Funny Face, has once again made headlines after unleashing a fresh wave of anger toward his baby mama, Vanessa, just days after reportedly moving out of fellow actor Kwaku Manu’s house.

In a heated video circulating on social media, Funny Face expressed deep frustration and disappointment, accusing Vanessa of causing him emotional distress. The comedian, known for his open and emotional rants, didn’t hold back as he addressed issues surrounding their relationship and the challenges he claims to have faced.

This latest outburst follows what appeared to be a temporary reconciliation between the two, which saw Vanessa visiting Funny Face with their children. However, their relationship seems to have taken another rough turn, leading to renewed public drama.

Sources indicate that Funny Face had been staying with Kwaku Manu for support as he worked on rebuilding his life and career. His decision to leave Kwaku Manu’s house has now sparked speculation about renewed tension and possible misunderstandings between the comedian and those close to him.

Many Ghanaians have reacted to the viral video with mixed emotions — while some sympathize with Funny Face’s struggles, others have urged him to handle his personal issues privately.

The ongoing conflict between Funny Face and Vanessa has been one of the most talked-about celebrity relationship dramas in Ghana, with fans hoping the two can eventually find peace and stability for the sake of their children.

Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie

The Appointments Committee of Parliament will today vet the Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie, at the Committee Room of Parliament House in Accra.

The exercise, which is scheduled to start at exactly 11:00 a.m., marks a crucial step in the constitutional process toward confirming the next head of the Judiciary. It follows President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to remove Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office.

According to a statement from Parliament, public interest in the vetting has been particularly high, given the pivotal role of the Chief Justice in shaping the nation’s legal and judicial direction.

However, the Director of Media Relations of Parliament, David Sebastian Damoah, has stated that attendance at the vetting will be strictly by invitation.

He explained that due to limited space and security considerations, the public will not be admitted into the chamber. Instead, citizens are encouraged to follow the proceedings live on GH Parliament TV and the official social media platforms of Parliament.

The vetting session is expected to feature questions on Justice Baffoe Bonnie’s judicial philosophy, track record, and vision for reforming the administration of justice should he be confirmed as Chief Justice.

Minority Opposition

Meanwhile, the Minority Caucus had earlier sought to delay the vetting process, citing a pending legal challenge by former Chief Justice Torkornoo over her removal.

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, had filed a motion requesting the Speaker to suspend the vetting until the court determines the matter.

However, Speaker Alban Bagbin rejected the motion, ruling that it was inadmissible under the Standing Orders of Parliament.

Explaining his decision to the House last Friday, Speaker Bagbin said the Constitution places a continuing duty on Parliament to consider a presidential nomination for Chief Justice, regardless of any court proceedings.

“Article 144(1) of the 1992 Constitution gives Parliament a clear and continuing duty to consider a President’s nomination for Chief Justice. That duty is not conditional on events elsewhere,” he said.

The Speaker stressed that accepting the Minority’s argument would amount to allowing any litigant to “hold Parliament hostage” by filing a case and thereby freezing the work of the Legislature and its committees.

He further stated that judicial independence does not imply legislative paralysis, emphasising that unless there is a specific injunctive order from the courts, Parliament retains full authority to proceed with its constitutional functions.

Speaker Bagbin added that the Supreme Court already has sufficient powers to reverse any unconstitutional action if necessary, assuring that the vetting and approval processes would continue in line with constitutional provisions.

The Ghanaian delegation, led by Dimitrios Avraam (Dean of the HCCGH and Honorary Consul General of Belgium), included the Honorary Consuls of Cabo Verde, Jamaica, Luxembourg, Mexico, Seychelles, and Trinidad & Tobago.

“This renewed mandate is both an honour and a responsibility. It reaffirms HCCGH’s active role in fostering international friendship, collaboration, and service within the consular community,” said Mr Acquah.

“Receiving 39 votes out of 43 countries is deeply humbling and reflects the trust placed in Ghana’s diplomatic leadership.”

Mr Acquah’s re-election follows a record of tangible achievements. As Honorary Consul of Seychelles since 2016, he has been pivotal in strengthening bilateral ties, securing multiple Memoranda of Understanding during the 2024 state visit of Seychelles’ President Wavel Ramkalawan.

His FICAC leadership is equally proven, having hosted the landmark 2023 Conference for African Honorary Consuls in Ghana and participating in international humanitarian missions.

This continued representation solidifies Africa’s voice on the global stage and underscores Ghana’s role in Pan-African diplomacy.

This legacy builds upon the foundation laid by predecessors like Amarkai Amarteifio, Dean Emeritus of HCCGH, who served FICAC as both Director and Vice-President, highlighting Ghana’s enduring commitment to the Federation.

HCCGH expresses its sincere gratitude to all FICAC member states that supported its candidacy and reaffirms its commitment to strengthening international consular ties, fostering collaboration, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism.

Looking ahead, the Corps anticipates the XV FICAC World Congress in 2028, with Kazakhstan, India, and Mauritius having submitted bids to host the next edition.

Choose Bawumia’s ‘rich ideas’ over money – Oti delegates urged

NPP delegates in the Oti Region have been urged to select a competent, marketable leader to guide the party into the 2028 elections.

Welcoming Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to the Oti Region on Friday, November 7, the NPP Regional Chairman, Evans Yaw Dapaah, slammed the flagbearer hopefuls going round bragging about their wealth and warned against such practice.

According to him, the party’s January 31st presidential primaries next year should not be about who offers the most money.

“Some of the aspirants have been going around bragging that they have money. This contest is not about how wealthy someone is, so please don’t fall for their deception,” he cautioned.

He urged the party to choose competence over “braggarts”.

“The NDC believed in Mahama and backed him without considering money. I remember during their congress in 2022, Mahama offered the delegates GH₵ 40 transport, but they voted massively for him.”

“The person we know and believe can bring power to the NPP in 2028 is Dr Mahamadu Bawumia. He is the most marketed person who can bring us victory, so let us all rally behind him and vote massively for him just as the NDC did for Mahama without being influenced by money.”

Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka was the Founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka was the Founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission

An old video recorded prior to the passing of the late Founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, has resurfaced, in which he recounted his life story, sharing how a miracle surrounded his birth.

In the video, Dr Safo Kantanka explained that he was born wearing a red garment, much to the surprise of those present.

He added that, in addition to the red attire, a rainbow also appeared around him.

Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo ‘Kantanka’ is dead

“I come from Asumenya and a member of the Aduana clan. My mother and father were from the same household and it came a time where my father left Asumenya to an underdeveloped village which only had a methodist school.

“That was where I was born and the day I was born, I came wearing a red attire and I was also surrounded by rainbow. I don’t reveal this because that is my strength,” he stated.

Dr Safo Kantanka, who was also an inventor and the Chairman of the Kantanka Group, further revealed that after his birth, people had to bow down before they could carry him.

He explained that those who failed to do so were unable to lift him because of the rainbow that appeared around him, adding that only by bowing did the rainbow allow people to carry him.

“Anyone who wanted to carry me as a baby had to bow down before doing so else they can’t carry me. Once they bow down, the rainbow that was surrounding me paves way to allow them carry me. I am not an ordinary being,” he continued.

He also narrated that because of these events, he was taken to a river in his village at just eight months old, along with a local delicacy of mashed plantain with eggs (etor), and left there, as the people claimed he was not human.

He added that after leaving him by the riverside, the people returned home only to find him there.

“People didn’t understand how such things were possible and so, at the age of eight months, they prepared mashed plantain with eggs (etor) and carried me along to a river and left me there, claiming I wasn’t human. After leaving me behind, they returned home only to find me home, to their surprise.

“Growing up as a kid, I started making cars using bamboo sticks… I can do everything. I left the village to Accra in January 1965 as a young man. Shortly after I came to Accra, my father died in 1969 and my mother died in 1975. I am the last-born child of my parents out of six children,” he added.

Dr Safo Kantanka, speaking about how he began his church, said he started it in his room with just two people, which has now grown into a full-fledged mission.

“… I started a church, which is the Kristo Asafo, formerly known as Christ Reformed Church… I started the church with two other people in my bedroom,” he added.

Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo, a celebrated preacher, technological innovator, philanthropist, agriculturalist, and industrialist, popularly known as “Kantanka, the African Star,” passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

How the US overtook China as Africa’s biggest foreign investor

You probably don’t give much thought to the device that you’re reading this article on, as long as it looks good and keeps working.

But the elements that power and run it are the subject of an escalating struggle between the world’s two biggest economies – the US and China – with African countries in the eye of the storm.

The African continent is rich in critical minerals and metals – like lithium, rare earths, cobalt and tungsten – which are vital to making and running our personal tech. Such materials are also essential for everything from electric vehicles, to AI data centres, and weapon systems.

China has long been the biggest player in the global market for critical minerals and metals. It has significant reserves at home, and access to supplies from overseas thanks to major investment in foreign mining operations – particularly in Africa.

Beijing has also built up a dominant position when it comes to processing global supplies, and it has rattled the US with the threat of curbing exports. That’s lent added urgency to US moves to increase its access to critical minerals and metals, with African reserves seen as key to that mission.

This is so much the case that the US has actually quietly overtaken China as the biggest foreign direct investor in Africa, according to the latest annual figures. The US invested $7.8bn (£6bn) across Africa in 2023, compared with $4bn by China, according to the China Africa Research Initiative of Johns Hopkins University, which accessed official data.

It marks the first time since 2012 that the US had regained the lead.

This American investment is being led by a government agency called the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). This was set up in 2019 during President Trump’s first term of office, and it is not shy about saying that its mission is to take on Beijing. The DFC says on its website that it was established as a means of “countering China’s presence in strategic regions”.

What does this investment mean for African firms and countries who are beneficiaries?

Last year Rwandan mining company Trinity Metals secured a $3.9m grant from the DFC to help develop the three mines that it owns in the country, producing tin, tantalum and tungsten.

“The US government has been very supportive of what we’ve been doing, to look at bringing that supply chain directly to the United States,” says company chairman Shawn McCormick.

Trinity now sends tungsten from Rwanda to a processing plant in Pennsylvania. It has also struck a deal to send Rwandan tin to a smelter in Pennsylvania.

Mr McCormick denies that the funding from Washington influenced the company’s decision to send supplies to the US.

“This was not the US government who said to the CEO and I ‘could you please get that tungsten to America?’ It’s our decision as players in the commercial market.”

Trinity is 5% owned by the Rwandan government, and Irish critical minerals investment firm TechMet is also a shareholder.

Mr McCormick adds that while some mining operations in Africa can use untrained workers operating in dangerous conditions, Trinity follows the highest standards.

“We have shown that there is a way to produce these materials in a conflict free, child labour free way that is professionalised, and that’s paying taxes and respecting the community and the environment, creating jobs and opportunity”.

Sepo Haimambo is an economist at banking group FNB Namibia. She says African nations must be assertive in standing up for their national interests when negotiating with US entities, and shouldn’t expect any favours.

“To expect [the Americans] to show up and negotiate and propose clauses that are in Africa’s best interests on Africa’s behalf would be unrealistic,” she says. “So Africa really needs to prepare itself for these engagements and be really clear on what [outcomes] it wants.”

Ms Haimambo adds that African governments should expand away from simple cash for minerals deals. “There’s an opportunity to look at different frameworks instead,” she says.

“You could look at production sharing agreements, joint venture models, local equity participation. Ultimately that then creates an opportunity for African countries to create, maybe, sovereign wealth funds that can then invest into developmental areas like education, healthcare etc.”

She also wants to see more processing of minerals and metals done in Africa, rather than simply exporting the ores overseas, as this would be more financially lucrative.

Gov’t allocates extra GH¢100m to address grain glut – Eric Opoku

0

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the National Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) to purchase surplus farm produce from farmers across the country, following growing concerns over unsold crops and falling market prices.

Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, disclosed this on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, November 10, 2025, in response to widespread complaints from farmers, particularly those cultivating rice, maize, and other grains.

He explained that the President’s directive aims to cushion farmers affected by the glut and stabilise food prices.

“The National Buffer Stocks is procuring rice, maize, gari, and many other grains from the farmers,” Mr. Opoku said.

According to the minister, the government initially released GH¢100 million for the purchases, which has already been fully utilised. He said he had personally verified the quantities procured.

“As we speak, the initial GH¢100 million that the government gave to them has been fully utilized, and the quantities have been made available to me. I have gone to the stores to look at the quantities they have, and I also have the paper receipt in relation to how much they have procured,” he noted.

Mr. Opoku further revealed that the government has approved an additional GH¢100 million to enable NAFCO to continue buying directly from farmers in the field.

“Another GH¢100 million has been provided for them to go to the field to continue with the purchases,” he added.

Chief Justice nominee Paul Baffoe-Bonnie to face Appointments Committee today

0

The Appointments Committee of Parliament is set to vet Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie today, Monday, November 10, 2025, following his nomination by President John Dramani Mahama for the position of Chief Justice.

The vetting, scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., was confirmed in an official notice issued by David Sebastian Damoah, Director of Media Relations at Parliament.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s nomination comes after the dismissal of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who had served as Chief Justice since 2023.

During the session, Members of Parliament are expected to assess Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s legal experience, judicial philosophy, and proposed reforms for Ghana’s justice system before making a recommendation to the full House.

Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has rejected a motion filed by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who had called for the suspension of the vetting until court proceedings involving the former Chief Justice are concluded.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin argued that proceeding with the vetting could interfere with the ongoing judicial matters and potentially breach constitutional and procedural principles.

However, the Speaker dismissed the motion, ruling that there was no legal or constitutional basis to halt parliamentary proceedings due to a pending court case. He warned that allowing such a move could set a dangerous precedent and undermine the independence and continuity of Parliament’s work.

Dr Opoku Prempeh beams with joy as wife joins the Anglican Mothers’ Union

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh all smiles during a Church Service Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh all smiles during a Church Service

It was a radiant Sunday morning at the Cathedral Church of the Most Holy Trinity when Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, traded the political spotlight for a pew, beaming with pride as his wife, Alma Pokua Adade-Prempeh, was inducted into the Anglican Mothers’ Union.

The former Energy minister and 2024 NPP running mate posted, “I was glad when my wife said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord,” capturing the rare calm of a man more often associated with high-voltage debates than quiet devotion.

The ceremony, simple yet dignified, drew admiration from many who saw it as a moment of grace in the often tense climate of national discourse. For a man who has spent years ensuring Ghanaians “see the light,” witnessing his wife join the Mothers’ Union seemed to bring a new kind of illumination — one that glows quietly from faith and family.

A church elder jokingly noted that “the Lord works in mysterious ways — sometimes through power plants, sometimes through prayer meetings.” The congregation responded with knowing smiles as Alma was robed and blessed into the Union’s service.

Online, the post quickly gained traction, with admirers describing it as “a refreshing sight of humility and spiritual grounding.” Others playfully remarked that while some chase power, others simply go to the source of power.

As hymns filled the air, Dr Opoku Prempeh looked every bit of a proud husband — a reminder that behind every public figure is a personal story, and sometimes the most powerful charge comes not from politics, but from purpose.

Education Ministry to purchase surplus eggs to ease market glut – Eric Opoku

0

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has announced that the Ministry of Education will soon begin purchasing excess eggs from poultry farmers across the country to address the current glut affecting the market.

The move, according to the Minister, is followed by a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, who instructed that the excess supply of eggs be absorbed through the School Feeding Programme to support both farmers and pupils.

“The issue was raised before Cabinet, and His Excellency the President directed the Ministry of Education to ensure that the glut is cleared to support the School Feeding Programme. The Ministry is now preparing to clear the glut, and very soon, you will see them on the ground procuring the excess eggs. So, relating to the glut, the issue has been solved,” Eric Opoku said on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, November 10.

The Minister’s assurance comes as poultry farmers, particularly in the Bono Region, continue to grapple with severe losses due to an oversupply of eggs and declining market prices. Some farmers have been forced to sell off their birds prematurely to minimise financial strain.

The Agric Minister underscored the government’s intervention, which seeks to protect local poultry businesses and stabilise the market, also ensuring that nutritious, locally produced eggs are used to feed children under the national school feeding initiative.

Meanwhile, the official launch of the Nkukor Nkitinkiti programme is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. The initiative seeks to boost domestic poultry production by providing day-old chicks, poultry feed, and veterinary support to households nationwide.

‘The way Liverpool were set up helped Doku shine’published at 09:40 GMT

Manchester City 3-0 Liverpool

Danny Murphy
BBC Match of the Day pundit

Jeremy Doku was absolutely brilliant for Manchester City on Sunday, but Liverpool’s tactics were the reason he was able to run riot down their right.

Without Mohamed Salah tracking back, Arne Slot’s side were always so vulnerable down that flank and I felt sorry for Conor Bradley, who was trying to stop Doku but had Nico O’Reilly to worry about too.

Even if Liverpool had found some better balance, and had a winger who gave Bradley more defensive support or condensed City’s space, then with the way Doku was playing he would still have been almost impossible to stop.

Doku was a pleasure to watch, irrespective of who you support and who you wanted to win. You had to admire his skill, pace, strength and bravery – and his goal was just amazing.

The way Liverpool were set up, though, actually helped him shine. He was electric and the game’s star man. This was the best I’ve seen him play in a City shirt, but Salah not being asked to defend made it so easy for him.

It became a really productive area of the pitch for City, and was one of the reasons they won so comfortably in the end.

‘I would have been depressed if I did secular music’

Scott Evans is a Ghanaian urban gospel musician Scott Evans is a Ghanaian urban gospel musician

Urban gospel artiste Scott Evans has stated that he believes he would have struggled with depression if he had chosen the secular music path instead of sticking to gospel.

In an interview on Hitz FM on November 9, 2025, he said an artiste’s value in the secular space is measured entirely by the number of hit songs they produce.

He added that in that secular space, relevance is short-lived unless one consistently drops hit songs, and anyone who falls short is sidelined.

I would rather sell plantain than switch to secular music – Scott Evans

“If I was doing secular music, I would have been depressed. Secular artistes depend strongly on hit songs. Their relevance is tied to having hits, and if you don’t have a hit song in the secular space, people don’t recognise you. It’s a fact,” Scott Evans said.

The singer went further to say that nothing about the secular space appeals to him, and even if the opportunity came for him to switch genres, he would never consider it.

He explained that he would rather choose a completely different path in life, which would be selling plantain on the street, than enter a field he believes offers no real fulfilment.

“ If I get the chance to be a secular artiste, I would rather be a plantain seller on the street. There is nothing attractive in it for me,” he added.
