President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans by the government to begin the distribution and installation of streetlights across all districts in the Greater Accra Region.

“Let me commend the efforts of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, and her MMDCEs for their work in improving street lighting and public safety in Accra. I encourage the continuation and expansion of this initiative and will give it the full support of the central government,” he stated.
He noted that the streetlight project aligns with the government’s broader policy objective of creating a vibrant 24-hour economy, which seeks to maximise productivity and economic opportunities around the clock.
“The government will soon begin the distribution and installation of streetlights in all districts of Greater Accra. This is important to promote our 24-hour economy policy,” he added.
Mahama gives dancer money; clarifies it’s GH₵500, not dollars
Fuel prices in Ghana are set to experience their steepest drop yet at the pumps today, May 16, 2025.
This is according to the latest Pricing Outlook from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) for the second pricing window of the month.
Petrol prices are expected to fall by between 6.7% and 8.8% per litre, potentially bringing the cost down to GH₵13.27 from GH₵14.42 or even lower.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced measures to tackle the growing issue of crows disrupting power distribution networks in the Ashanti Sub-Transmission region.
In a statement issued by the Ashanti regional office, ECG acknowledged that the activities of crows have led to frequent power outages, creating operational challenges and inconveniencing consumers across the region.
The company assured the public that its Ashanti Sub-Transmission team is actively working to mitigate the effects of these disruptions and ensure a stable and reliable power supply.
ECG emphasized its commitment to addressing the issue promptly and called for public cooperation as it implements the necessary interventions.
Crows, known for their intelligence and adaptability, pose an unexpected hazard to power distribution networks. Their tendency to perch on transmission lines and structures can lead to disruptions through various means, including:
– Short circuits and line trips, affecting power supply.
– Equipment damage, as nests containing metallic materials trigger electrical faults.
– Insulation breakdown, caused by droppings forming conductive paths under humid conditions.
– Increased maintenance costs and operational risks, straining resources.”
The Ashanti Regional office of the Electricity Company of Ghana identified the most affected feeders in the region as Barekese, Akyawkrom, Effiduase, Kumawu, Bekwai, New Edubiase, Dunkwa, and Manso Nkwanta.
These disruptions, caused by crow activity, have significant implications for the reliability of power supply and the overall efficiency of the transmission network.
To address the issue, ECG’s Ashanti Sub-Transmission team has assured the public that a range of preventive measures will be implemented to mitigate the impact.
These include:
– Physical Barriers: Bird spikes, insulated covers, and perch deterrents to minimize roosting.
– Optimized Line Design: Adequate conductor spacing and enhanced insulation to reduce accidental contact.
– Nesting Deterrents: Routine nest removal and application of non-conductive materials on structures.
– Acoustic & Visual Disruptors: Deployment of distress calls, reflective surfaces, and predator decoys to discourage perching.
– Strategic Monitoring: Regular line patrols for early detection and rapid response to faults caused by bird interference.
According to the ECG, these measures are designed to minimize the impact of crows on the transmission infrastructure and ensure a reliable power supply to consumers in the Ashanti Region.
“To provide impetus for improving supply reliability in the region, the General Manager of Special Projects at Head Office, Ing Frederick Kwabena Bediako, in collaboration with Ing Daniel Mensah Asare, GM Ashanti South, and Technical Managers of Ashanti Sub-T, have patrolled the Kuntenase- Bekwai and other problematic feeders to identify challenges affecting the stability of supply in the area.”

President John Dramani Mahama has proposed a second gas processing train
President John Mahama has announced plans to introduce a second gas processing train to facilitate Ghana’s transition from crude oil to natural gas for power generation.
“Ghana is seeking to phase out the use of crude oil in its power generation mix over the medium term,” President Mahama stated.
According to Mahama, this initiative will not only reduce the country’s reliance on crude oil, but also lower electricity costs and enhance energy security.
The planned development of a second gas processing train is intended to improve energy efficiency, expand the domestic gas supply, and promote a cleaner and more sustainable fuel source, according to a report by citinewsroom.com
President Mahama added; “There was a bit of disinvestment in the energy sector, but new commitments are coming up. So, for instance, we are going to build a second gas train, which is going to handle more gas from our first field.
“We are going to put more gas on stream, so we need a second train because our current plant in Atuabo cannot handle the extra gas.”
This project aims to optimise Ghana’s energy mix and promote sustainable development.
Crude oil has been a volatile and costly fuel source for Ghana’s thermal power plants.
However, the president believes that replacing it with natural gas will alleviate the pressure on the energy sector, which has faced challenges such as mounting debts and high operational costs for independent power producers (IPPs).
“ENI is back; they are drilling again, and early signs are that we might find a considerable quantity of oil and gas. When that happens, we can eliminate crude oil power generation completely in the next three to five years,” the president remarked during the 2025 Africa CEO Forum in Abidjan.
He also noted that the current economic recovery positions Ghana as an attractive destination for both midstream and upstream opportunities, emphasising that the current macroeconomic environment is favorable and stable for business.
President John Dramani Mahama invited investors to partner with the government in scaling up oil and gas infrastructure for long-term growth.
“The oil and gas sector was toxic. I don’t know for what reasons, but I think governments have not prioritised the sector. But I will lay a red carpet for anyone who wants to drill and pump in Ghana,” he concluded.
Mahama’s proposal underscores efforts to diversify Ghana’s energy sector and mitigate the impact of fluctuating crude oil prices on the economy.

Renowned Ghanaian pastor and founder of Perez Chapel International, Bishop Charles Agyinasare, has shared the powerful story of how he gave his life to Christ during a visit to church under the influence of Marijuana.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, Bishop Agyinasare revealed that in 1980, while working as a teacher and giving private lessons, he was invited to teach two sisters, both of whom he liked.
“When I was making my move, one of them said, ‘My boyfriend is Jesus, and I’d like to introduce you to my boyfriend.’
“ I thought it was a joke. I said, ‘okay, if that’s all it would take for you to be my girlfriend, then I’ll go with you to church.’” he shared.
He described walking into the church high on marijuana and dressed in what was known then as a “Bola shirt” with waist-tied trousers, intending to sit through the service and leave. But something unexpected happened.
“ I heard the preacher say, ‘If you want to give your life to Jesus, come forward,’ and I came under conviction. I don’t remember what he said because I was high, but I remember I had never had an altar call before.
“When I heard the altar call, I walked to the front, gave my life to Jesus, and the power that day, the power of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, broke from my life,” he shared.
That moment, according to the Bishop, marked a turning point.
Bishop Agyinasare has since become one of the most influential figures in Ghana’s Christian community, known for his evangelistic crusades and transformative messages.

John Dramani Mahama is Ghana’s president
President John Dramani Mahama has clarified that the money he gifted to a dancer during his Thank You Tour at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region was GH¢500, and not US dollars.
Addressing the gathering after a dance performance, he stated, “To put it on record, the money I had was GH₵500 and not dollars.”
The clarification comes on the heels of a recent viral video that captured Acting Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, handing over an undisclosed amount of US dollars to fetish priestess who now professes to be an evangelist, Patricia Asiedua Asiamah.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has officially announced that no further action will be taken against Sammy Gyamfi, following the incident.
At a recent press briefing, the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced that President Mahama has accepted Sammy Gyamfi’s apology.
Kwakye Ofosu conveyed the president’s directive that public officials must strictly adhere to the Code of Conduct and be ever mindful of public expectations.

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance
The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced an ambitious government plan to acquire 200,000 hectares of land for cocoa plantations as part of efforts to revive Ghana’s struggling cocoa sector and restore production levels to 1 million metric tonnes.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new eleven-member Board of Directors for the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) at the Ministry of Finance, Dr Forson stressed the urgent need for bold interventions to address the sharp decline in cocoa production, which has fallen from a peak of 1 million metric tonnes to about 500,000 metric tonnes in recent years.
Dr Forson, who now serves on the COCOBOD Board by virtue of a new legal provision mandating the inclusion of the finance minister and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, reaffirmed government’s commitment to repositioning cocoa as the cornerstone of the national economy.
“Cocoa has always been the mainstay of our economy, and that must not change,” he said.
“Unfortunately, massive mismanagement in recent years has led to a worrying downturn in both production and financial stability. It is time to act decisively.”
He disclosed that government, working through COCOBOD, would establish plantation farms by acquiring about 200,000 hectares of cocoa land to significantly boost production levels.
This, he explained, would complement existing smallholder farmer operations and ensure sustainable growth in the sector.
Dr Forson also highlighted the need to urgently tackle diseased farms, particularly in the Western Region, which continue to hamper output and affect the livelihoods of cocoa farmers. He pledged the Finance Ministry’s unwavering support for COCOBOD as it embarks on this turnaround agenda.
The Chairman of the newly inaugurated board, Dr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, promised to reset, retool, and reposition COCOBOD as a model institution.

In teams of two, officers dey knock on doors to request DNA samples. Det Sgt Laurence Dight say dey generally dey receive warm response. Pipo don hear about di babies and wan help.
E say pipo often dey happy to take di test. Some no gree, wey dey within dia rights.
Once dey don collect samples, dey analyse dem, and decide on di next steps.
In di local community, many dey mystified. Di congregation of East Ham Baptist Church dey bring togeda pipo from all over di world.

A heated dispute has broken out in the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency, triggered by a leaked WhatsApp voice message from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women Organiser, known as Meeri as reported by Ghana Web.
The controversy centers on the awarding of a school feeding contract to renowned Ghanaian actress Vivian Jill Lawrence, a decision that has sparked intense backlash from Meeri, who claims she was bypassed in the process.
Meeri, expressing deep frustration in the voice note, criticized the handling of the contract, suggesting that it disregards the local party’s structure and her role as a grassroots organiser.
She revealed that she had yet to receive her official appointment letter as the Women Organiser for the constituency, while Vivian Jill, based in Kumasi, was allegedly given the contract to manage the School Feeding Programme locally.
“How does it happen that as the constituency women organiser, I have not received my appointment letter, but someone from Kumasi receives an appointment letter from Accra to be walking about in my constituency seeking to execute school feeding?” Meeri questioned, emphasizing the lack of respect for the party’s grassroots leaders.
The dispute escalated when Meeri reportedly confronted Vivian Jill, only to find she had left the area.
The organiser then made a chilling threat, warning the actress against proceeding with the contract: “I have told Vivian Jill herself to dare come to cook if she is a woman. The very hand she intends to cook with… she will return with amputated hands.”
Meeri also accused the Ashanti Regional Women Organiser of sidelining local party members in awarding the contract.
The School Feeding Programme, a significant government initiative, has often been at the center of political tensions due to its financial and social impact.
As of now, neither Vivian Jill nor the NDC leadership has publicly responded to the allegations or threats.
Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South, has stated that he has not been served with the defamation suit filed against him by his colleague, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Mr. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor.
His comments follow a suit filed by the South Dayi MP over a social media post he claims has severely damaged his reputation.
The legal action stems from a post made by Rev. Ntim Fordjour on May 8, 2025, via the platform X (formerly Twitter), in which he alleged that Mr. Dafeamekpor—who also serves as the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament—acted as Vice Chairman of the Committee on Subsidiary Legislation during a period when the embattled former National Signals Bureau boss, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, allegedly paid GH¢360,000 to the committee to help facilitate the passage of a Legislative Instrument (L.I.).
Kwabena Adu-Boahene, in his defence against claims that he fraudulently misappropriated GH¢49.1 million, explained that allowances of GH¢960,000 and GH¢309,000 were paid to MPs on the Defence and Interior Committee and the Subsidiary Legislation Committee, respectively, during the passage of the NSB Act and its accompanying Legislative Instrument.
However, in a press statement issued on May 16, 2025, Rev. Ntim Fordjour said the suit had not come to his attention.
He expressed his eagerness to be served, arguing that he would demonstrate the suit lacks merit.
“Media reports of a suit supposedly filed by my colleague Honourable Member of Parliament for South Dayi. Mr. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has come to my attention.
“I have, however, not been served with any such suit. I, therefore, await the service of the supposed suit and will demonstrate that it is of no merit,” he stated.

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that more positive developments will be announced in the mid-year budget review, set to be presented in August.
Speaking about the government’s efforts to stabilise the economy at a durbar in Wa as part of his thank-you tour on Thursday, May 15, Mahama expressed confidence that the country is on the right path.
Since taking office, Mahama said the government’s primary focus has been on stabilising the economy.
He explained that the budget presented to Parliament in March this year was designed to drastically reduce expenditure while directing saved revenue into priority areas, as promised in the government’s manifesto.
“I am happy to report to you that our efforts to stabilise the economy have begun to yield results,” Mahama stated, highlighting the improved performance of the local currency and a gradual reduction in the prices of goods and services as signs of success.
The President commended the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana for their leadership and close collaboration in driving the economic turnaround.
He praised their teams for their efforts and stressed that the government’s coordinated approach was key to the progress achieved thus far.
“I wish to commend the Honorable Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, along with their teams, for the close collaboration and coordination they are displaying in this economic turnaround,” Mahama added.

The DJ Mensah Foundation – a charitable organisation founded by award-winning Ghanaian disc jockey, Michael Ayenu Mensah, popularly known as DJ Mensah – has donated school desks and learning materials to the Akokoase AEDA School in the Central Region.
The foundation made the donation on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, with support from some individuals and institutions including blogger Kobby Kyei, Avanni, Perfumebase, Pappaz Frozen Meat Market, Angel Publishing Limited and Priscilla of the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
Priscilla and Angel Publishing Limited provided books for students of Akokoase AEDA School, Perfumebase donated perfumes to teachers while Pappaz Frozen Meat Market donated foodstuffs. The desks were made by Avanni.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the school during the donation, DJ Mensah said: “It’s a true honour to be here today on behalf of the DJ Mensah Foundation. This moment means a lot to us—not just because we’re donating desks, but because we believe deeply in the power of education and the importance of creating a comfortable, supportive environment for learning.”
According to him, when he and his foundation’s partners heard about the challenges faced by Akokoase AEDA School, they knew they had to act.
He said no child should struggle to learn simply because they don’t have a proper desk to sit on.
He explained that “These desks may seem like a small gesture, but we hope they bring big changes—more focus in class, more pride in your school, and a stronger belief in your future.”
DJ Mensah said: “To the teachers and staff: thank you for your tireless dedication. And to the students: know that you are seen, you are valued, and your dreams matter.”
According to him, the DJ Mensah Foundation remains committed to supporting education and community development across Ghana.

At the 8th edition of the Africa Energies Summit, Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah, Ag. CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), presented a forward-looking vision of GNPC within the overall policy context of the resetting agenda for Ghana’s oil and gas sector, emphasizing the need for strategic investment and innovation to address production challenges and sustain growth.

“Achieving sustainable growth in Ghana’s oil and gas sector requires bold thinking and a willingness to embrace innovation,” Mr. Amoah stated. He emphasized that to truly take Ghana to the next level, the focus must extend beyond increasing well counts to reimagining upstream strategies through data-driven decision-making and modern technologies.
Harnessing Technology for Enhanced Production
GNPC’s Ag. CEO emphasized the importance of incorporating advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), and similar technologies and their relevance for guiding exploration and production investment decision making. Mr. Amoah highlighted GNPC’s plans to leverage digital solutions for better reservoir management, optimize drilling operations, and deploy cutting-edge seismic data acquisition methods.
One notable strategy discussed was the adoption of 4D seismic acquisition and Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) technology, designed to provide high-resolution data and improve subsurface imaging. Additionally, GNPC is exploring non-seismic technologies such as Satellite Imagery and Airborne Transient Pulse surveys to de-risk exploration activities, particularly in the underexplored Voltaian Basin.

Patricia Appiagyei is the Deputy Minority Leader and MP for Asokwa
The Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Patricia Appiagyei, has clarified her statement on President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of people from the north, which she made in a recent interview with Angel FM.
In a statement issued by the deputy leader’s office, she indicated that her remarks have been misconstrued to mean that she was castigating the president’s appointments of people from the northern parts of the country.
The office explained that Appiagyei, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, was only calling out the president over the low representation of women in some positions in his government.
“The Honourable Member, in her interview conducted in Twi, was responding to a question about women and gender representation in President Mahama’s administration. She expressed concern about the lack of regional balance and the inadequate inclusion of women in government appointments, as mandated by the Constitution of Ghana. Specifically, she questioned why even northern women who represent a significant and vibrant portion of Ghana’s population were excluded from leadership roles.
“Her comments were not in any way a critique of northerners or driven by tribal sentiment. Rather, they were meant to highlight the broader issue of equity, gender inclusion, and fair regional representation principles rooted in our constitutional values,” part of the statement reads.
It further clarified that; “It is unfortunate that this thoughtful call for inclusivity and representation has been twisted into a tribal narrative, which Hon. Patricia Appiagyei completely rejects and condemns. She has always stood for national unity, diversity, and equal opportunity for all Ghanaians, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or background.”

The Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Patricia Appiagyei, accused President John Dramani Mahama of neglecting females in the appointment of Chief Executive Officers for the various state-owned institutions in the country.
According to the Deputy Minority Leader, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, the president has not only failed Ghanaian women in his appointments, but has also failed to give adequate allocation to women from the northern part of the country, where the majority of his appointed CEOs hail from.
She added that the president’s action violates the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which provides for regional balance in appointments to such positions, and sets a dangerous precedent.
“One of the reasons I’m sad is that majority of them (women) who have been chosen to be chief executives are from the north. It is even more astonishing if you look at the Ashanti Region. What I think is that maybe he is not getting women from the north to appoint as he said… If this is the case, then there is a problem.
“Even the recent district assembly appointees they brought had the majority of them (the female appointees) from the north… This is very dangerous because it was the whole of Ghana that voted, and the law of Ghana, which is the constitution, states that appointments should be done in a way that ensures balance (regional balance),” she said in the Twi dialect during an interview on Angel TV, on May 15, 2025.
The Asokwa legislator added, “If you look at the population size, they are not more than the remaining of us. In terms of population, Akans and the other tribes are more than them, so why should the appointment be lopsided in this manner?”

Gospel musician Joe Mettle’s absence on stage to receive his award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) was due to a ticketing issue at the venue entrance, according to his manager, Nii Noi.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM, the talent manager revealed that Joe Mettle experienced difficulties with his ticket being flagged as already used when he attempted to enter the Grand Arena, a situation that delayed his access to the auditorium.
“I said on stage that he’s on his way. In fact, when he was entering, he had ticket verification issues just like Felicia Osei. When he got there and showed his ticket, they said it had already been used. After several tries, he called me and said, ‘they say somebody has used my ticket’” Nii Noi explained
Nii Noi, who had stepped on stage to pick up the award for Male Vocalist of the Year on Joe Mettle’s behalf, stated that he rushed out immediately afterward to assist the gospel singer. He said the issue was eventually resolved, but only after the first award presentation had already taken place.
“So, after picking the Male Vocalist award for him, I went out to help him sort it out. Then the guy (at the gate) said, ‘oh, it was a network issue. It’s been resolved now.’ That’s how come he missed picking the first one,” he stated.
Explaining why Joe Mettle was not seen on stage for the second award, his manager explained that the singer was not seated in the audience area at the time of the announcement.
“The second one, after the tribute performance, I think it was followed by Stonebwoy, they came to call us to take a photo with the first award. He was there; he was just not seated,” Nii Noi clarified.

President John Dramani Mahama with the Military High Command at the Jubilee House
The Military High Command, led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has donated a month’s salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Cares.
This gesture was announced by the Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a post shared on Friday, May 17, 2025.
He stated that the donation was made at a brief ceremony held at the Presidency in Accra.
“The Military High Command have just made a donation of one month salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund at a brief ceremony at the Presidency,” he stated.
The Mahama Cares initiative is focused on providing financial support to individuals living with chronic diseases nationwide.
It aims to cover treatment and medication for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) that are currently not included in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), thereby bridging a critical gap in healthcare coverage in the country.
Beyond direct medical support, the fund also plans to invest in vital health infrastructure, procure essential medical equipment, support specialist training, and fund research initiatives—all geared toward expanding access to quality healthcare.

The Public Utility Workers’ Union (PUWU) has called on the government to renegotiate contracts with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), arguing that the current pricing arrangements are a major source of financial inefficiencies and revenue leakages in the energy sector.
According to PUWU, the existing contracts are unfavorable and result in significant financial losses for the country.
On Thursday, May 15, Timothy Nyame, General Secretary of PUWU, expressed his concerns during an appearance on Citi Eyewitness News, and monitored by GhanaWeb.
He pointed out that there is a lack of attention to the cost implications of IPP contracts, which have become a significant source of revenue leakage.
“There are certain things that we are also raising about the pricing of IPPs… has the government taken the pain to renegotiate the IPP contract with them?” Timothy asked.
The union executive also stated that they believe that renegotiating these contracts could help optimise revenues and improve the sustainability of the energy sector.
Timothy noted that while public discussions often focus on utility tariffs and fuel supply, the inflated costs of electricity from IPPs are rarely considered, especially when compared to pricing structures in other African countries.
“These are some of the things that we are mentioning – that the pricing of the IPP is part of the leakages that they have to plug. Nobody is speaking about that. Nobody sees that IPPs should be renegotiated,” he added.
He also spoke about how fluctuations in exchange rates impact power pricing, and called for a shift to contracts denominated in Ghanaian cedis to better reflect local economic conditions.
“Looking at the pricing across, how much some of the IPPs are charging compared with Ghana, also, changing the pricing to Ghana cedi. We are not looking at that,” he added.
PUWU’s demand is on the back of ongoing concerns regarding the financial implications of IPP contracts on Ghana’s economy.

Three supporters of Valencia who were found guilty of racially abusing Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior during a match have been sentenced to eight months in prison.
During a La Liga game where Real Madrid lost to Valencia 1-0 at the Mestalla in May 2023, an incident occurred where the player identified a fan racially abusing him consistently, which led to the temporary suspension of the match.
According to ESPN, the court found the three fans guilty and initially sentenced them to 12 months in prison, later reducing it to eight months after the defendants accepted responsibility for the crime, which breaches article 173.1 of Spain’s criminal code.
They were also given a three-year stadium ban, later reduced to two years, and fined a certain amount of money to cover costs.
Vinicius Jr in response to the judgment, expressed his appreciation to Spanish authorities for taking such drastic actions and vowed to continue fighting against racism.
“Many people asked me to ignore it, others said that my fight was in vain and that I should just ‘play football.’ But, as I’ve always said, I’m not a victim of racism. I am an executioner of racists. This first criminal conviction in Spanish history is not for me. It’s for all Black people.

The Head of Public Events and Communications at Charterhouse Productions Ltd, Robert Klah, has spoken out about the ticketing problem media personality Felicia Osei experienced at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
Felicia Osei expressed frustration on social media after she was denied entry into the Grand Arena for the TGMAs because security told her someone else had already used her ticket.
Speaking on Hitz FM, Robert Klah confirmed that they had received her complaint. He explained that the issue came up during their post-event review meeting.
“In our post-mortem discussions after the event, we received such feedback. That’s why I’m sharing some possible scenarios, because we discovered that some guests had shared their tickets with others,” he said.
Robert explained that the tickets used at the event were linked to a system that scanned and captured the face of the person who first used it.
Therefore, if someone else tried to enter with the same ticket, they would be blocked at the gate.
He apologised to Felicia Osei for the unfortunate situation she faced and assured the public that the organisers are taking the matter seriously.
“We’re really sorry for the embarrassment she may have experienced. We plan to meet with our ticketing vendors to understand exactly what happened,” he said.
Robert also made it clear that they intend to investigate the matter thoroughly to avoid such problems in the future.
“We want to get to the bottom of this so we can learn from it and prevent it from happening again. Once again, we apologise to Felicia. But based on our findings so far, it may have been caused by one of three possible reasons,” he added.

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has inaugurated a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Department to foster sustainable and impactful collaboration between the public and private sectors within the tourism industry.
The new department, unveiled on Monday, is guided by Section 42 of the Tourism Act, 2011 (Act 817), and seeks to institutionalise the Public-Private Partnership Forum as a platform for co-planning, co-investing, and co-implementing tourism initiatives.
Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, the Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, described the move as recognition of the importance of shared vision, innovation, and strategic investment in driving the growth of Ghana’s tourism sector.
“This initiative goes beyond policy. It is about building a framework that enables seamless collaboration with stakeholders, supports joint ventures in infrastructure development, encourages product innovation, and strengthens destination marketing,” she said.
She noted that the department would help bridge gaps in trust, coordination, and policy alignment, thereby enhancing the efficiency and responsiveness of tourism development.
Mrs. Houadjeto emphasised that the expertise and investment of the private sector remained vital in shaping tourism policy and accelerating progress. “Ghana is ready for business – whether in accommodation, travel, ecotourism, heritage promotion, or digital tourism solutions,” she said, adding that the public sector must act as facilitators, not gatekeepers, to create an enabling regulatory environment that empowered businesses and aligned with global tourism standards. “As we embark on this journey, let us shift from transactional partnerships to transformational ones – elevating brand Ghana, creating decent jobs, and reinforcing Ghana’s position as the heart of West African tourism,” she added.
As part of the ceremony, the CEO officially introduced Mr. Jones Aruna Nelson as the Head of the PPP Department, and Mr. Bright Asempa Tsadidey as Head of Corporate Affairs.
Mr. Nelson, in his remarks, said the creation of the department marked a significant milestone in efforts to build a dynamic and inclusive tourism sector in Ghana.

The National Security Secretariat has launched an intensive manhunt for a notorious landguard in Accra, popularly known as “Poppy Osman,” following a series of complaints accusing him of unlawful demolitions and forceful takeover of private properties.
“Poppy Osman” is alleged to have led a violent demolition exercise in March 2025 at Tse-Addo, a suburb of the La-Dadekotopon Municipality. Multiple structures both concrete and wooden were razed to the ground, leaving legal occupants of the land homeless. Victims claim the suspect, with the support of a gang of armed landguards, destroyed their properties under the guise of owning the land.
In an apparent attempt to cement control over the disputed property, “Poppy Osman” reportedly began the hurried construction of a 10-storey building shortly after the demolition. However, following several failed attempts by affected individuals to get assistance from the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, petitions to the National Security Secretariat prompted swift intervention. Security personnel moved in to halt the construction, allowing room for legal proceedings to determine rightful ownership of the land.
Despite the intervention, the suspect allegedly returned to the site with over 100 armed landguards on Wednesday, May 15, 2025, in an attempt to forcibly retake possession. The group reportedly attempted to attack private security guards stationed at the location to prevent further development. However, a timely intelligence-led response by security operatives foiled the attack. “Poppy Osman” is said to have fled the scene upon spotting the officers.
The National Security Secretariat has since issued an arrest warrant for the suspect, who has also been named in at least three other petitions involving similar land encroachment cases across various parts of the Greater Accra Region.
One of the complainants, Madam Salomey Adjeley Odamtten, whose property at Tse-Addo was affected, expressed her frustration with the regional police command, accusing it of failing to act impartially in the matter. She, however, commended the National Security for stepping in and facilitating a legal process to address the dispute.
Another petitioner, Mr. Samuel Narh, a businessman whose property at Mahnet was allegedly taken over by the same suspect, questioned the silence of the police regarding the suspect’s ongoing criminal activities.
Sources within the Secretariat confirm that operatives are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to apprehend “Poppy,” who is now believed to be in hiding and evading capture.

Alhaji Seidu Agongo (R) seen presenting a cheque of GH¢500,000 to the Minister of Health
Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo has fulfilled a pledge of GH¢500,000 to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, a move to support the country’s growing dialysis needs.
Alhaji Agongo, who is also the founder and owner of Alive Industries, made the donation at the Ministry of Health in Accra, together with his management.
He described the initiative as “a programme that touches the very foundation of the Ghanaian people”.
Dialysis treatment in Ghana has become a growing burden for patients, many of whom struggle to afford the high cost.
According to Agongo, the average dialysis session costs around GHS700, and a patient typically requires three sessions per week — a monthly total of approximately GH¢8,400 (around $800).
“In a developing country where people hardly get food to eat, this is a significant strain,” Agongo said. “That is why I see this programme as one that truly resonates with the grassroots and deserves all our support.”
Agongo, who operates a dialysis centre himself, underscored the link between health and economic productivity.
“As a businessman, my business only flourishes in a healthy environment. We all need access to proper healthcare.”
He also extended his appreciation to the Minister of Health for his commitment to the programme and President John Dramani Mahama, under whose leadership the Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) initiative was launched. “This is not for his own sake, but for the citizens of Ghana,” Agongo added.
The Minister of Health, speaking at the event, lauded Alive Industries for the donation, saying: “We are so grateful and we know this is not just corporate social responsibility. It’s a true gesture of national solidarity.”
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund was established to support citizens who are unable to afford critical medical services, especially those requiring long-term treatments such as dialysis.

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has established two specialized committees to oversee its Golden Jubilee awards ceremony.
The 50th SWAG Awards Planning Committee and Awards Nominations Committee will coordinate the landmark event honoring Ghana’s top sports performers.
Veteran sports journalist and SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah confirmed the appointments in an official statement. Berekum West MP Dickson Kyere-Duah will chair the Planning Committee, while Daily Graphic Deputy Editor Rosalind Amoh leads the Nominations Committee. The teams comprise experienced sports media professionals and administrators, including former Ghana Digital Centre CEO Kwadwo Baah Agyemang and National Sports Authority Deputy Director Veronica Commey.

Veteran Ghanaian comedian and filmmaker Kwaku Sintim-Misa, also known as KSM, says Ghana has the talent to build a strong film industry but lacks the systems to make it work, especially regarding film distribution.
Speaking on Joy Learning TV, KSM explained that Ghana is full of creative people—actors, directors, and storytellers—but the industry is not organised well enough to produce the best results.
“In Ghana, our film industry is amazing. We have all the ingredients for a great film industry, but I don’t think we have the recipe right yet,” he said. He compared it to cooking, saying we have the right ingredients, but we’re not putting them together properly.
KSM noted that some filmmakers are beginning to figure things out, but many are still struggling to find the right approach. He also said Ghana has a long way to go compared to Nigeria’s Nollywood, which has had more time and practice to grow its industry.
“Nigerians have had a longer time making films. The more they make them, the better they get. And they’ve built a system that works, especially for distribution,” he said.
One of Ghana’s biggest problems, according to KSM, is the lack of proper outlets to distribute films. He said filmmakers work hard to produce movies, but after paying for everything, they still struggle to get their films seen.
“Someone will hustle to get money, hustle to make the film, and then hustle again just to distribute it. There are no proper distribution outlets,” he said.
The local cedi has staged one of its sharpest rallies in recent years, appreciating nearly 19% in just a month to trade around 13.05 to the US dollar.
This rebound according to ABSA Bank Research comes on the back of surging gold prices, elevated cocoa values and a significant recovery in the country’s foreign reserves – which have risen to a multi-year high.
The Report reveals that the currency’s rally has outpaced fundamentals, leaving the cedi overvalued by nearly 20% on a real effective exchange rate basis.
In the Bank’s latest “Ghana Market Insight” report released on May 12, ABSA warned that the cedi — which surged nearly 19% in a single month from GHS 15.50 to GHS 13.05 per US dollar is now overvalued by as much as 19% based on real effective exchange rate (REER) models.
Absa forecasts a correction to around 14.00/USD by year-end, helping to realign the exchange rate with purchasing power parity.
“We believe the cedi has rallied too aggressively. To restore competitiveness and purchasing power parity, the exchange rate is likely to reverse towards GHS 14.00/USD by year-end,” Absa’s lead analyst for Sub-Saharan Africa, Nikolaus Geromont stated.
The report further notes that cedi’s appreciation has been underpinned by a spike in export revenues from gold and cocoa.
Gold prices have soared to over $3,300 per ounce — a record high driven by geopolitical tensions and investor flight to safe-haven assets.
Cocoa prices remain elevated due to expected poor harvests in Ivory Coast, while Ghana’s more stable weather has boosted local output.
These developments have boosted Ghana’s foreign exchange reserves, which now cover 3.0 months of imports, up from 1.8 months a year ago due to the Bank of Ghana’s aggressive accumulation of gold over fiat currency, and the newly created Ghana Gold Board that is streamlining export flows into official coffers.
“Our models show the REER is now at its most stretched level in over a decade,” the report noted, warning that Ghana’s export competitiveness is at risk unless the currency realigns to reflect broader economic realities.
Absa however projects that the cedi will weaken slightly in the coming quarters, ending 2025 at around GHS 14.19/USD, and averaging GHS 14.16/USD for the year.
While this would still represent an improvement over the 2024 average of GHS 14.50/USD, the bank cautions that current market euphoria may not be sustainable.
Looking forward, additional support is expected from new gold mines (including Cardinal-Namdini and Ahafo South) coming online in 2025, which will likely reinforce reserves and inflows.
“A gradual correction in the currency is needed to avoid undermining the fragile gains made in stabilising the economy,” the report added.
Ghanaian musician and social media personality Archipalago has boldly declared himself a prophet following his accurate prediction of King Promise’s win as Artiste of the Year at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).
Speaking on Joy Prime’s “Changes” show with Roselyn Felli, Archipalago attributed his foresight to intuition and a unique ability to “see things” before they happen.
Ghana could see its current account surplus improve to 5.1% of Gross Domestic Production (GDP) in 2025 from last year’s 4.3%, that is the latest forecast from Absa Cedi Report released in May 2025.
According to the report, Ghana could build reserves on the back of gold and cocoa export to support the cedi. It added that gold and cocoa production are projected to increase in Ghana with new mines coming on board, and favourable weather conditions for farmers.
“Given these developments, we now expect the current account surplus to improve to 5.1% of GDP in 2025 from last year’s 4.3%”, it predicted.
The report is optimistic Ghana will continue to benefit from export of gold and cocoa to support the cedi, which recently appreciated aggressively to GH₵12.40 to the dollar from GH₵15.50.
“We believe export receipts will continue to benefit from supportive gold and cocoa prices”, it said.
According to the report, Ghana is in a good position to benefit from export receipts of gold to build buffers for the cedi due to the coming onboard new mines.
“Several new mines (including the Cardinal-Namdini and Ahafo South mines) are expected to commence production in 2025, according to their owners”, it said.
The situation, the report pointed out could help Ghana ramp up gold production as the commodity is not affected by the numerous tariffs imposed by the U.S
“The yellow metal is exempt from the latest wave of US tariffs”, it said adding that the heightened uncertainty in global trade has also triggered a flight to safe-haven assets such as gold, driving its price to all-time highs of USD3,300/bl in recent weeks. We also expect Ghana’s gold output to improve”
On coca, the report warned that bad weather conditions could generally affect production, with Ivory Coast being hit the hardest.
“Amid expectations of a smaller harvest in the West African region. In particular, output from the Ivory Coast could suffer amid volatile weather conditions”.
It however pointed out that rainfall levels have been more consistent in Ghana, which has led to a handsome rebound in output after last year’s subdued crop output.

Ken Ofori-Atta is expected to return in Ghana soon for an in-person interrogation by the OSP
A former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, who has been out of the country for medical assessment, is expected to return between May 14 and May 30, 2025, to undergo an in-person interrogation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
His anticipated return was communicated to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in February 2025, through his legal team, establishing a timeline for his appearance.
Additionally, the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, also confirmed Ken Ofori-Atta’s impending return, noting that the former minister’s legal representatives have been in communication with the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
“The legal team of the former minister has been in communication with the OSP and has indicated that he is scheduled to return between May 14 and 30, 2025. He is prepared to present himself for questioning upon his arrival,” Afenyo-Markin was quoted as saying by myjoyonline.com on February 18, 2025.
Afenyo-Markin also read a letter from Ken Ofori-Atta’s lawyers, explaining the reasons for his absence and confirming his expected return.
“We respectfully indicate that our client, who is due for his return, cannot travel before six to eight weeks post-surgical intervention, as indicated in the hospital’s letter. Considering the scheduled surgery between March 20 and 21 and the necessary recovery period, our client expects to be back in Ghana between May 14 and 30, 2025. We hope this timeline will guide your office in scheduling an in-person appearance,” the letter stated.
Following this communication, his name and details were subsequently removed from the OSP’s list of wanted persons, where he had earlier been declared a fugitive from justice.
As of May 16, 2025, the date for Ken Ofori-Atta’s return is fast approaching, with just 15 days remaining until the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s accepted deadline of May 30, 2025.
Should he fail to appear and honor the invitation, the OSP has warned that it will re-enter his name onto the list of wanted persons and again declare him a fugitive from justice.
“Mr Ofori-Atta is mandatorily required to appear in person before the OSP on 2 June 2025. If Mr Ofori-Atta fails to attend the OSP on the scheduled date, he shall be re-entered on the OSP’s list of wanted persons and the OSP shall consider him a fugitive from justice,” portions of the OSP’s statement on March 17, 2025, read.
The OSP further stated that it will take additional severe measures to apprehend the former minister, including requesting the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice, which calls on law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest individuals declared wanted.
“Whereupon the OSP will cause the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice in his regard and also cause the initiation of extradition proceedings in any jurisdiction in which he may be found,” it added.
Ken Ofori-Atta’s expected return is in line with investigations by the OSP against the former minister regarding contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for revenue assurance in the petroleum and minerals sectors.
Another investigation concerns the termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Beijing Technology Limited for distribution loss reduction and network improvement.
He is also being investigated over procurement, payments, and activities related to the controversial National Cathedral project.
Additionally, he has been linked to contracts awarded by the Ministry of Health initially through the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives to Service Ghana Auto Group Limited for the purchase and maintenance of 307 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 305 CDI ambulances for the National Ambulance Service.
Furthermore, the OSP is examining payments made from and the utilisation of the Ghana Revenue Authority’s tax refund account.

Dr Zakari Mumuni is the First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG)
The First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Zakari Mumuni, has noted that Ghana has about 3.7 months of import cover according to the metrics of the International Monetary Fund.
He noted that the target set by the IMF, rather ambitious, has been exceeded by the government.
“If there is one thing under the IMF programme that we have done well as a country, it is reserves accumulation. These were very ambitious targets. Anybody would have doubted whether we could achieve them.
“You know the target. The target at the end of the programme period is three months of import cover. We are above that. We’re around 3.7 months using the IMF metric,” he was quoted by myjoyonline.com.
Dr Mumuni explained that on a larger scale, Ghana’s recovery has been phenomenal in the last few months.
He said, “If you look at it broadly, including the petroleum funds, which also belong to Ghana, we are even at 4.7 months of import cover. This tells you we’ve devised very innovative ways of meeting market demand while still accumulating buffers.”
According to the deputy governor, the bank has been strategic in balancing its foreign exchange interventions, accounting for the performance of the cedi.
“Whatever we are doing is now weighted more towards reserve build-up rather than just market support. We are meeting market demand without affecting our reserves,” he said.

Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has stated that he is saddened by the elimination of the Black Satellites from the U20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
He noted that it’s unfortunate the team couldn’t make it to the semi-finals, where they could have secured automatic qualification to the 2025 U20 World Cup in Chile.
The Member of Parliament for Buem constituency indicated that the team has good players who should be monitored going forward to feed the U23 team in the future.
Adams stressed that the players, if they maintain their performance, could help the nation qualify for the Olympic Games in the near future.
“The U20 team painfully exited at the quarter-final stage, but that team is very good. I believe the Black Satellites are a team that, with a few additions, will grow to become the U23 team participating in the Olympic qualifiers,” he said, as reported by Joy Sports on X.
The Black Satellites’ hope of qualifying for the 2025 U20 World Cup crashed after losing to Egypt on penalties following a 2-2 draw in AFCON.
The team excelled in the group stage, recording two wins and one draw, accumulating seven points to qualify.
However, individual mistakes cost them against Egypt in the quarter-finals.
Despite the disappointment, some players dazzled, including Abdul Aziz Issah, Hakim Sulemana, Lord Afrifa, and others.
