Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu (M), and officials present at the 2025 IBES II Data Collection launch
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has officially closed the training ceremony for field officers and launched the 2025 Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES II) Data Collection, a comprehensive survey aimed at collecting data from over 44,000 establishments across the country.
The survey is crucial for national planning, measuring and rebasing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and understanding production and business trends.
Data collection which begun on July 10, 2025 will continue until every establishment in the sample has been reached. The final data is expected to be available by December 2025.
Speaking at the event, the Government Statistician of Ghana, GSS, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, emphasised that, the survey is the 5th of its kind in the country’s history, with previous rounds conducted in 1962, 1987, 2003, and 2015.
He said, approximately 2,600 field officers have been trained to collect data, which will feed into national planning and policy-making.
According to him, the data collected will help shape better business environments, and more relevant policies, ultimately supporting businesses and the nation.
He underscored that, the survey is not just about collecting data; but about shaping how Ghana understands itself and informing decision-making at every stage of development.
“The data will serve as a powerful tool for businesses, policymakers, and stakeholders to make informed decisions,” he said.
Call to Action for Field Officers
Dr. Iddrisu urged the field officers at the launch of the IBES II Data collection, to uphold the highest standards of integrity, diligence, and professionalism during the data collection process, by collecting accurate and reliable data, maintaining confidentiality and data security, being respectful and courteous to respondents, as well as adhering to ethical standards and protocols
Furthermore, he emphasised that the success of the survey depends on the officers’ discipline, attention to detail, and integrity. Field officers are expected to carry themselves with dignity, stick to what they’ve been taught, and honor their oath of secrecy.
Also, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, has asked the business community to cooperate with field officers and provide necessary data to make the survey a success, adding that, “the survey’s success depends on the participation and cooperation of all stakeholders, including businesses and individuals”.
Media Support
Dr. Iddrisu on behalf of the Ghana Statistical Service, urged the media to play a crucial role in supporting the 2025 Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES II) by helping to tell the story, spread the word that data collection is an investment, explain the process, counter misinformation, and keep the work in the public eye.
According to him, the media is an extremely important actor in the development equation, and their support will be instrumental in ensuring the success of the survey.
“By working together, the GSS and the media can help to promote the importance of data collection and its role in informing decision-making and driving development in Ghana,” the Statistician said.
Director, Business, Trade and Industry Directorate, Dr. Owusu Kagya, gave a reflection and synopsis of key Guidance for IBES II Data Collection
According to him, data quality monitors will play a crucial role in validating data, tracking progress, and improving accuracy and completeness. “IT officers will be responsible for enforcing data security measures, ensuring proper encryption, and performing regular backups to safeguard the collected information,” he said.
“Teams are expected to meet daily targets, update progress dashboards regularly, and report any delays promptly,” he added.
The Director, thus, called on all officers to commit to excellence and deliver a survey that meets the highest standards of accuracy and professionalism, contributing valuable data for national development.
