Mahama’s comment in 2022 complicates matters – IMANI

0

IMANI Africa has said in relation to the petitions seeking the removal of the Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo that a video evidence of President John Dramani from an NDC lawyers’ conference in 2022 when he was presidential candidate, alluding to the potential change in judicial leadership to instil trust in the judiciary, complicates matters relating to the petitions seeking the removal of the current Chief Justice.

Missing ECG Containers: ‘I am a victim of unfair treatment’

Samuel Dubik Mahama, a former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has accused the committee investigating the disappearance of ECG containers at the Tema Port of treating him unfairly.

He condemned the committee for citing him in their report without prior consultation.

Mahama argued that he deserved the right to respond to the allegations leveled against him in the document before any conclusions were drawn.

“I am here primarily to ensure that I am not unfairly judged by the public regarding the issue of the supposedly missing containers. Though I will not speak directly to the claims in the report because I was not consulted by the committee in the first place, I want to declare my innocence in this matter. The committee has not treated me fairly by indicting me in portions of the report without contacting me for my explanation regarding some of the allegations,” he said on TV3’s Ghana Tonight on April 2, 2025.

However, he maintained that he would not immediately respond to the claims made in the document, as he had not been consulted.

Additionally, he urged the Minister of Energy to proceed cautiously in reaching a logical conclusion regarding the alleged missing containers at the Tema Port.

He insisted that the containers could not be missing, as every single one could be traced with due diligence.

“I do not subscribe to the claim that the containers are missing because every container that passes through the port has a unique number. A container can only be cleared after all requirements and documentation have been fulfilled.

“In the case of these ECG containers, there are three possibilities: they could have been misplaced at a terminal, lost at sea, or auctioned. A thorough investigation will lead us to their whereabouts,” he stated.

Mahama also expressed his willingness to cooperate and assist in efforts to locate the missing containers.

“I have not gone anywhere. I am willing and ready to help the minister conduct a forensic audit to locate the containers. They should take their time to reconcile the number of containers imported with those that were either auctioned or cleared,” he said.

NDC is evading joint security briefing on national security matters

0

John Ntim Fordjour is MP for Assin South John Ntim Fordjour is MP for Assin South

The Member of Parliament for Assin South and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of deliberately evading a joint security briefing to address pressing national security concerns.

In a post on Thursday, April 3, 2025, John Ntim Fordjour claimed that the government is avoiding accountability on several high-profile incidents, including suspected drug trafficking and money laundering activities, for which he has requested a joint briefing by the National Security, the police CID, the Narcotics Control Commission, and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

“They have demonstrated clearly they have something to hide. After I demanded a joint briefing of National Security, NIB, police CID, Narcotics Control Commission, they have evaded the meeting and are avoiding a meeting to provide updates on investigations into the specific security matters raised. I shall, therefore, explore every Parliamentary tool at my disposal in the exercise of oversight until we have answers…” he wrote.

The MP’s concerns stem from a series of events that have raised alarm in recent months.

On February 9, National Security officials seized gold and cash in Accra, but nearly two months later, no updates have been provided on the total amount confiscated or the status of the investigation.

In March, two major cocaine busts, valued at $350 million and $120 million, were reported, further fueling fears that Ghana is becoming a hub for drug trafficking.

Additionally, two suspicious flights, AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air’s Antonov An-12B, supposedly landed at the Kotoka International Airport in March, with the Minority alleging that the air ambulance N823AM carried cocaine and US dollars, instead of patients.

Flightradar24 data confirms that N823AM arrived in Accra on March 20 and departed for Gran Canaria on March 25 after a five-day stay.

Meanwhile, President John Mahama has issued a directive instructing all security agencies to collaborate with John Ntim Fordjour in investigating allegations he raised during a press conference on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, regarding drug trafficking and money laundering involving the two suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

According to the president, Ghana has a zero-tolerance policy for drug trafficking and will not allow the country to be used as a transit or final destination for illicit drugs.

Trump slaps Ghana with 10% tariff access to US market amid global trade wars

0

US President, Donald Trump US President, Donald Trump

Ghana’s duty-free access to the US market under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) has been abruptly terminated with a 10% tariff imposition on exports to the US market, marking a significant blow to the country’s export sector.

This follows an announcement by President Donald Trump on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, imposing far-reaching new tariffs on nearly all US trading partners.

China has been slapped with a 34% tax on imports, 20% on the European Union, among others that threaten to dismantle much of the architecture of the global economy and trigger broader trade wars.

Trump, in an announcement, said he was placing elevated tariff rates on dozens of nations that run meaningful trade surpluses with the United States, while imposing a 10% baseline tax on imports from all countries in response to what he called an economic emergency.

Trump said he was acting this way to bring in hundreds of billions in new revenue to the US government and restore fairness to global trade.

“Taxpayers have been ripped off for more than 50 years. But it is not going to happen anymore,” he said.

Trump declared a national economic emergency to levy the tariffs. He has promised that factory jobs will return to the United States as a result of the taxes, but his policies risk a sudden economic slowdown as consumers and businesses could face sharp price hikes.

The White House says the tariffs and other trade imbalances led to an $1.2 trillion imbalance in 2024. Administration officials suggested it could take an extended set of actions by other countries to bring down the new tariffs their imports now face, and retaliatory tariffs by those countries could make the situation worse.

Implications for Ghana’s export strategy

The removal of AGOA privileges represents a major setback for Ghana’s Accelerated Export Strategy, which relies heavily on access to US markets for processed cocoa, textiles, and agricultural products.

The decision could lead to a sharp decline in export revenues, increased costs for Ghanaian exporters, and potential job losses across key industries.

Trade analysts warn that Ghana’s exports could struggle to remain competitive without preferential tariff treatment.

While African economies had hoped for an AGOA renewal, the latest decision suggests a shift towards reciprocal trade agreements, potentially forcing Ghana into a bilateral trade negotiation with the US.

Sonnie Badu chides ‘doom prophets’ chasing clout with Naana Jane’s ill-health

Gospel musician Sonnie Badu (L) and Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang (R) Gospel musician Sonnie Badu (L) and Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang (R)

Ghanaian gospel musician and preacher, Sonnie Badu, has called on pastors in the country to be cautious about how they publicly dish out prophesies.

In a post shared on Instagram on April 2, 2025, Sonnie Badu said publicly prophesying an individual’s death without offering them a path to redemption does not demonstrate power but rather makes one as a prophet of doom.

“I have seen, in recent times, prophets lose family members, and when you see how devastated and broken, they were, you would understand that losing a family member is no joke.

“Dear major and minor prophets, there is something called the word of wisdom, which means that whatever you see, you should speak with wisdom. Prophesying someone’s death does not make you powerful; rather, it makes you a prophet of doom … and I can tell you for free that once there is revelation then there is redemption…. Revelation without redemption is not God speaking.” he stated.

Sonnie Badu emphasised that prophets in the country should exercise wisdom when delivering such prophecies, as they can cause fear and panic for the families of the individuals being prophesied about.

“I plead with all prophets, both major and minor, to apply wisdom because the people you mention have family members, and such prophecies bring fear. As you grow, you mature in the things of God,” he said.

He made these statements in response to a video circulating on social media in which Prophet Eric Boahen Uche prophesied about a purported unfortunate incident concerning Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

This video surfaced recently, following the announcement from the presidency about the Vice President’s ill-health.

However, Sonnie Badu firmly stated that the Vice President’s health issues are simply a result of stress accumulated from the election period until now, with little rest.

“To our Vice President, Mummy, get well soon. Please take time to rest. The truth is, that you gave your all during the campaign and have not rested. I am praying for you. Love you loads, Mummy,” he stated.

‘Low-budget Ablakwa’ – Netizens mock Ntim Fordjour over oversight parliamentary roles

0

Rev John Ntim Fordjour is the Assin South MP Rev John Ntim Fordjour is the Assin South MP

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has become a topic of discussion online following perceptions by some Ghanaian social media users that Rev John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, is attempting to emulate his oversight roles in Parliament while in opposition.

The recent oversight activities of the NPP lawmaker have sparked discussions, particularly regarding his demand for answers concerning the missing ECG containers and the suspected arrival of suspected flights linked to drug trafficking in the country.

The Assin South MP, Ntim Fordjour, raised alarm over two suspicious flights, AirMed flight NH23AM and Cavok Air private jet Antonov AN 12 B that supposedly landed in Ghana in March.

According to them, the two flights suspected to be carrying cocaine and an undisclosed amount of cash landed in Ghana between March 20 and March 25, 2025.

Addressing a press conference on April 1, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, said the Minority caucus intercepted an intelligence indicating that an air ambulance landed in Ghana without any referral of patients.

However, his oversight actions have been mocked by netizens, who have drawn comparisons to the approach of Ablakwa, highlighting similarities between the two.

Some social media users argued that Ablakwa, now the Minister of Foreign Affairs, effectively carried out his parliamentary oversight roles during his time in opposition by presenting well-supported facts and documents to substantiate his claims against the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

On the other hand, some have commended Ntim Fordjour for stepping up to the role and executing it to what they describe as “perfection.”

These supporters argue that his actions will keep the government on alert and foster transparency and accountability, ensuring that the government remains answerable to the public.

Ghana, South Africa and Nigeria among countries hit by Trump’s tariffs

0

Donald Trump's tariffs come as many African countries grapple with the recent US aid cuts Donald Trump’s tariffs come as many African countries grapple with the recent US aid cuts

Several African nations are among the countries hit by sweeping tariffs announced by President Donald Trump on the US’ global trading partners.

Trump has announced a minimum 10% tariff on all imports to the US and additional “reciprocal tariffs” for 20 African countries, including 30% for South Africa.

Other African countries hit with extra tariffs include 50% for Lesotho, 47% for Madagascar, 40% for Mauritius and 37% for Botswana.

Nigerian exports were hit too – at 14%.

Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Senegal and Liberia were among those countries whose exports to the US will be subject to the baseline tariff of 10%.

Trump said the reciprocal tariffs were “for countries that treat us badly”.

During Wednesday’s announcement at the White House, the Republican president said that the US had been taken advantage of by “cheaters” and had been “pillaged” by foreigners.

“Our taxpayers have been ripped off for more than 50 years, but it is not going to happen any more,” Trump said.

“It’s our declaration of economic independence,” he added while holding up a chart showing a list of countries that charge higher tariffs on US goods, impose “non-tariff” barriers to US trade or have otherwise acted in ways US officials feel undermine American economic goals.

South Africa is included in the long list of countries dubbed the “worst offenders”, which also involve China, Japan and the European Union – that now face higher US rates – payback for unfair trade policies, Trump said.

According to the list, South Africa charges 60% on US imports – although this is not just tariffs – and in turn, Trump said his country would implement a “discounted” 30% tariff on South Africa – one of Africa’s biggest and most developed economies.

“They have got some bad things going on in South Africa. You know, we are paying them billions of dollars, and we cut the funding because a lot of bad things are happening in South Africa,” he said, before going on to name other countries.

In a statement, the South African presidency condemned the new tariffs as “punitive”, saying they could “serve as a barrier to trade and shared prosperity”.

The White House released a list of roughly 100 countries and the tariff rates that the US would impose on what Trump dubbed “liberation day” for the American people.

In addition, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on all foreign-made automobiles, a move likely to drive up vehicle stocks in African countries which rely heavily on imports from Japan, Germany and China.

The US is expected to start charging the 10% tariffs on 5 April, with the higher duties for certain nations starting on 9 April.

African countries like South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya have long had open trade agreements with the US, and the new tariffs could significantly affect existing economic ties.

The tariffs come as many African countries are already grappling with the effects of US foreign aid cuts, which provided health and humanitarian assistance to vulnerable countries.

Trump announced the aid freeze on his first day in office in January as part of a review into the US government spending.

US-South Africa relations have deteriorated sharply since Trump returned to power.

Trump and his ally, South-Africa born Elon Musk, have singled out South Africa, in particular criticising it over its land reform policies that they say discriminate against white farmers.

Economists say the new tariffs mark a clear departure from the more open trade policies that have previously defined US-Africa relations.

They have not paid even one cedi and I’ve written to the President

Ghana’s persistent issue of unpaid utility bills among state institutions has sparked fresh controversy, with the Energy Minister issuing a stern warning to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) over its outstanding debt. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) may soon be compelled to disconnect power to the water utility provider if urgent measures are not taken.

Energy Minister John Jinapor did not mince words when addressing the situation. According to him, the Ghana Water Company Limited has failed to settle its electricity debt, a situation he finds unacceptable, especially considering the financial strain it places on the nation’s power sector.

“Ghana Water has not paid even one cedi, and I’ve written to the President,” Jinapor stated, expressing his frustration over the company’s negligence in meeting its financial obligations. His comments underscore the growing tension between state institutions and the government’s efforts to ensure all sectors comply with payment requirements.

The Minister emphasized the importance of fairness and accountability, noting that while ordinary citizens are required to pay their electricity bills promptly, state institutions must be held to the same standard. Allowing GWCL’s debt to persist, he argued, would be a disservice to the general populace who dutifully fulfill their obligations.

Though the exact amount owed by the Ghana Water Company Limited remains undisclosed, the Energy Minister’s firm stance signals that the government may soon resort to drastic measures if the situation remains unresolved. The possibility of disconnecting power to GWCL could have significant implications for the country’s water supply, potentially disrupting essential services if the debt issue is not addressed.

The ongoing standoff between the two state entities highlights broader concerns about financial discipline within public institutions. As the Energy Minister continues to push for accountability, the question remains whether the Ghana Water Company Limited will heed the warning or face the severe consequences of disconnection.

Ultimately, the government’s handling of this issue could set a precedent for how financial negligence by state institutions is addressed in the future.

ECG Container Scandal Sparks Blame Game

0

Samuel Dubik Mahama

The controversy surrounding the disappearance of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers at the Tema Port has sparked a blame game, with various political and corporate figures weighing in on the matter.

The scandal, which involves the disappearance of 1,346 containers consigned to ECG, has led to intense scrutiny and demands for accountability.

Missing Containers and ECG’s Complaint

In a formal complaint to the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), ECG’s former Managing Director, Samuel Dubik Mahama, detailed that at least five containers of electricity meters, supplied by L & R Investment and Trading Company Limited, were auctioned without ECG’s notice.

The goods, said to have been shipped between July 2017 and December 2018, according to a letter, remained at the port due to contractual disputes between ECG and the supplier.

In the said letter, ECG insisted that the auction was conducted without following proper procedures, and called for the annulment of the auction, citing concerns that the illicit sale of the meters could lead to further commercial losses for the company.

Political Responses and Denials

Amid the scandal, the Old Tafo Member of Parliament (MP), Ekow Vincent Assafuah, defended former Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as Napo, stating that “the Napo I know will never be involved in such a scandal.”

Mr. Assafuah asserted that the former minister had no knowledge of the auction or the missing containers, dismissing attempts to link him to the issue.

Meanwhile, a statement from GPHA, dated February 9, 2023, acknowledged ECG’s complaint and confirmed that the authority was engaging the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to explore recovery options.

However, sources within the government have said the lack of transparency surrounding the auction process has fueled speculation and further controversy.

Conflicting Reports and Transition Discrepancies

According to the sources, the scandal has been further complicated by conflicting reports regarding the total number of missing containers.

They indicated that a memo released by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) indicates that the ECG and GRA had identified five auctioned containers in 2022 and 2023, though there was no concrete proof of a legitimate auction.

The sources indicated, however, that a later technical audit under the current administration found that out of 3,000 ECG containers supposedly at the Tema Port, 1,346 were unaccounted for.

They said this revelation had raised questions about whether the previous administration knowingly misrepresented the actual number of containers at the port during transition meetings in December 2024.

Call for Accountability

The public remains outraged over the lack of clarity and accountability surrounding the missing ECG containers.

One source asserted that whether the containers were auctioned, stolen, or misappropriated, the central issue remains: critical electricity infrastructure, funded by taxpayers, has disappeared under questionable circumstances.

Impeachment of CJ: Vexing issues arising

0

The Supreme Court is expected to soon fix a date to hear an injunction application seeking to halt the process that could result in the impeachment of the Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo.

President John Dramani Mahama has initiated a consultation process with the Council of State in line with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, aimed at establishing whether three petitions seeking the impeachment of Justice Torkornoo meet the prima facie threshold to warrant investigations.

The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, on March 27, this year filed a writ asking the Supreme Court to declare the prima facie determination process as unconstitutional owing to what he termed as a failure of the President to notify the Chief Justice about the petitions and receiving her responses before forwarding same to the Council of State.

Mr Assafuah, represented by his lawyer, Godfred Yeboah Dame, a former Attorney General, also filed an injunction application seeking to halt the entire impeachment process pending the final determination of the substantive suit.

On the same day that the two court processes were filed, Justice Torkornoo also wrote to the President requesting copies of the petitions and being allowed to respond in tandem with the rules of natural justice.

Is the application moot?

However, two days after the writ and the injunction application were filed, President Mahama, on March 29, forwarded the petitions to the Chief Justice seeking her preliminary response in the process initiated with the Council of State to determine whether or not there was a prima facie case for her to answer.

The President gave Justice Torkornoo 10 days to submit her responses.

The new twist has therefore raised the issue of whether the application and the substantive writ are moot.

In law, a case is termed moot if it has been overtaken by events, with the subject matter of the case either extinguished or being determined by the events.

While some lawyers and legal scholars have reinforced this position, others believe that a determination by the Supreme Court will bring clarity to the issue of whether the response of the Chief Justice is required by law during the prima facie determination by the President in consultation with the Council of State.

Should the CJ empanel the judges?

Another raging controversy which has dominated discussions and is likely to come up during the hearing today is whether it is in the interest of fair trial for the Chief Justice to empanel the Justices of the apex court who will hear and determine the application.

Critics have pointed out that as an interested party in the case, the Chief Justice should hand over her administrative function in empanelling the Justices that will determine the application since it would amount to her being a judge on her own case.

However, this argument has been countered by others who are of the view that the law as established by the legal doctrine of necessity and a plethora of cases such as GBA vs A-G (Abban case) and Frank Agyei Twum vs A-G is that the Chief Justice cannot be made to forgo her administrative duty of empanelling judges as established under Article 125(4) of the 1992 Constitution so far as she remained the substantive Chief Justice.

Those who subscribe to this line of argument further contend that the Chief Justice empanelling judges does not make the judges susceptible to manipulation by the Chief Justice, as judges are expected to be fair-minded.

Reliefs

In the substantive writ of Mr Assafuah, he argued that the President was enjoined by various provisions in the 1992 Constitution to have first notified the Chief Justice about the petitions to obtain her comments and responses before forwarding same to the Council of State for consultation.

Failure to notify the Chief Justice, the plaintiff argued in his reliefs, was not only unconstitutional but also against the rules of natural justice that required giving persons accused of wrongdoings a fair hearing.

As part of his reliefs, he is further asking the Supreme Court for a declaration that “upon a true and proper interpretation of Articles 146(1), (2), (4), (6) and (7), 23, 57(3) and 296 of the Constitution, the President is mandated to notify the Chief Justice about a petition for the removal of the Chief Justice and obtain his or her comments and responses to the content of such petition before referring the petition to the Council of State or commencing the consultation processes with the Council of State for the removal of the Chief Justice”.

Impeachment process

Article 146 of the Constitution stipulates that a Justice of the Superior Courts can only be removed from office “for stated misbehaviour or incompetence or on grounds of inability to perform the functions of his office arising from infirmity of body or mind”.

Article 146 governs the process for the removal of Justices of the Superior Courts, the Chief Justice and persons whose offices are analogous to Justices of the Superior Courts, such as the Chairperson and Deputy Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission and Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice.

In Article 146(6), the Constitution states that “Where the petition is for the removal of the Chief Justice, the President shall, acting in consultation with the Council of State, appoint a committee consisting of two Justices of the Supreme Court, one of whom shall be appointed chairman by the President, and three other persons who are not members of the Council of State, nor Members of Parliament, nor lawyers” if a prima facie case is established.

However, in the case of Frank Agyei Twum vs Attorney-General, the Supreme Court added the layer of prima facie determination concerning the impeachment process of the Chief Justice which was not expressly stated in Article 146 (6) of the Constitution.

This means that if the petition is for the removal of the Chief Justice, it is sent to the President, who forwards it to the Council of State for consultation on the determination of a prima facie case.

If a prima facie determination is made, then the committee, as stipulated under Article 146(6) of the Constitution, will be established to investigate the petition.

It is important to note that under Article 146(10) of the Constitution, the President has the power to suspend the Chief Justice immediately after the committee is formed.

This suspension can be in place until the committee finishes its work but the President has the power to revoke the suspension.

The committee will inquire into the petition and make recommendations to the President on whether the Chief Justice should be removed or not.

The President is bound to act in accordance with the recommendations of the committee.

Background

On March 25, this year, the Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, released a statement announcing that President Mahama had forwarded to the Council of State for consultation, three petitions seeking the removal of Justice Torkornoo.

The statement explained that the move by President Mahama was in line with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.

World Bank Slaps Govt Over Mass Dismissals

0

Sam George

The World Bank has slapped Ghana with a suspension of two of its funded projects in the country following the government’s recent mass layoffs in key sectors.

The affected projects are the $200 million Tree Crops Diversification Project and the $200 million Ghana Digital Acceleration Project (GDAP).

According to the Bretton Woods institution, the dismissals were improper and violated fair labour practices.

The suspension of these projects, which were aimed at strengthening Ghana’s infrastructure and economic resilience, adds further strain to the country’s already fragile financial situation.

The High Street Journal quoted sources at the World Bank as stating that in the case of GDAP, Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, was warned against making personnel changes without following due process. However, the dismissals proceeded regardless.

The minister recently announced a review of nearly 600 personnel recruited into the ministry and its agencies after the December 7, 2024 elections, with nearly 100 employees already dismissed.

He justified the move as a necessary step to streamline operations, reduce excess staff, and enhance efficiency.

The GDAP initiative is designed to expand broadband access, improve digital public services, and strengthen the country’s digital innovation ecosystem to drive job creation and economic growth.

The Tree Crops Diversification Project, on the other hand, aims to enhance economic, climate, and social resilience in the cocoa, coconut, cashew, and rubber value chains.

Sources indicated that the terminations were carried out without adherence to World Bank protocols, raising concerns about the future of these initiatives.

Experts familiar with World Bank operations stress that Ghana must quickly rectify these procedural breaches by ensuring proper contract terminations and following an open, competitive recruitment process before the projects can resume.

The report also warned that a similar issue may arise at Development Bank Ghana (DBG), which is also under scrutiny.

The appointment of a new CEO was reportedly made without following the World Bank’s required competitive selection process.

The World Bank, African Development Bank, and other multinational donors are supporting DBG, making adherence to proper protocols crucial.

The High Street Journal further reported that experts believe these dismissals, along with others across government institutions, could lead to the suspension of additional World Bank-supported projects, which will put more critical initiatives at risk if laid-down procedures continue to be ignored.

Given Ghana’s current financial strain and limited access to international capital markets, the loss of such crucial funding could severely impact the government’s economic and developmental agenda, the report concluded.

Ghana’s Black Stars climb to 76th in FIFA Rankings after World Cup Qualifier wins

0

Ghana has climbed the latest FIFA rankings, marking their first upward movement since July 2024, when they rose from 64th to 60th.

The Black Stars have now advanced to 76th globally, up from 77th, a position they held since November 2024. This positive shift follows Ghana’s strong start to 2025 during the last international break.

Victories over Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers—their first wins since defeating the Central African Republic in June—propelled the team forward, surpassing Israel, who slipped two spots in the rankings.

Despite the global improvement, Ghana’s position in the African continental rankings remains steady at 14th.

Coach Otto Addo will aim to build on this momentum and further boost the team’s standing when they resume action later this year.

I went to clean a client’s house and ended up in his bed, now I’m in love with him

0

File photo of a worried woman File photo of a worried woman

Dear GhanaWeb,

I got a job last year with a cleaning agency, which I took as a part-time role. I’m a graduate and just turned 25 this month.

I needed to do something to support myself for the time being, so I decided to start cleaning.

We typically work in groups of four for bigger jobs, like cleaning offices or plazas. For home cleaning, one person is assigned per job.

One morning, I was assigned to clean the house of a man who seemed to have a lot of money.

He is attractive and probably in his mid-50s. I didn’t think I’d be attracted to older men, but maybe it was his thick beard, always neatly trimmed, that caught my attention.

I worked at his house for over two months, going there three times a week.

He is a free-spirited person, and we often had conversations. He asked about my life and my future plans. I told him my goals, and he said he would try to help because, in his words, “I’m too beautiful to be cleaning homes”.

One morning, I arrived early, and he was taking a shower, preparing for work. I decided to clean his bedroom first.

When he came out, wearing only a towel, I couldn’t help but stare at him. He noticed and came up to me, saying he could tell I was interested in him. He was very direct, and honestly, his boldness was a huge turn-on for me.

What happened next was unexpected. He was much more intimate than I anticipated, and it was a very different experience from what I’ve had with men my age.

He seemed to know exactly how to treat a woman, and I found it both exciting and new.

Since then, he has been very kind to me. He told me he didn’t feel comfortable with me continuing as a cleaner and offered to help set up a business for me.

While I don’t think he’s in love with me, I’ve developed strong feelings for him. I think I love him not just because of what happened between us, but also because of the person he is, how thoughtful, neat, and kind he’s been to me.

I want him to marry me, as he is not married yet. But I am unsure whether I should confess my feelings. I don’t know if he feels the same way, and I’m afraid of being rejected.

Should I tell him how I feel, or keep my emotions to myself? I don’t want to lose him. I need advice on what to do next.

Put me in charge of the fight against galamsey

Illegal miners [L] and PNP Leader, Janet Nabla Illegal miners [L] and PNP Leader, Janet Nabla

The presidential candidate of the People’s National Party (PNP) for the 2024 election, Janet Nabla, has challenged President John Mahama to put her in charge of the fight against illegal mining popularly known as galamsey if he wants to win the fight against the menace.

Speaking in an interview with Rainbow Radio, monitored by GhanaWeb, the firebrand politician said the only thing she will need is for the president to make the security agencies available to her.

“If President Mahama wants to stop galamsey, I dare him to put me in charge of the fight against illegal mining. I am telling President Mahama that I avail myself. He should not pay me a dime but should allow me full control of all necessary security apparatus, and then we will see what happens. The NDC government is not fighting galamsey. When I am put in charge of the fight against galamsey, I will do what the Mahama government is not ready to do,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Convenor for the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, has urged the government to declare a state of national emergency to address the surge in illegal mining activities in the country, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking during an interview on Joy News, monitored by GhanaWeb on Monday, March 31, 2025, he stressed the need for the government to take decisive action against illegal mining, including the declaration of a state of emergency to safeguard the environment.

“So, for all of these forest reserves, you need to declare a state of emergency. A lot of our water bodies have been diverted or blocked, and there are going to be major landslides, mudslides, and flooding in some of these communities because of the way we have treated the water bodies.

“When the rains start coming in, the lives of Ghanaians will be at stake. I believe that a state of emergency will give the President special powers to work together with the Attorney General and the Chief Justice to set up specialized fast-track courts. The NDC talks about a 24-hour economy; these courts should be running 24 hours,” he stated.

Ghanaian Woman Warns Rev. Owusu Bempah to Stay Away from NPP, Accuses Him of Betrayal

0

A Ghanaian woman has publicly chastised controversial pastor Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, urging him to distance himself from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and accusing him of betraying the party’s trust. The fiery admonishment, captured in a viral video, has reignited debates about the clergyman’s polarizing political ties.

According To Yen, In the widely circulated clip, the unidentified woman—speaking in Twi—accuses Rev. Bempah of being a “fair-weather ally” who abandons the NPP in difficult times. “When the party needed your support, you were nowhere to be found. Now that elections are coming, you want to return?” she fumes, wagging her finger for emphasis. Her outburst reportedly occurred during a public gathering in Accra, drawing cheers from onlookers.

Bempah’s Rocky NPP Ties

The pastor, founder of Glorious Word Power Ministries, has long been associated with the NPP, famously prophesying victories for the party. However, critics allege he switches allegiance for personal gain. His recent absence from key NPP events fueled speculation of a rift, though Bempah denies this, calling the woman’s claims baseless.”

NPP Reacts

While the NPP has not officially addressed the incident, party insiders admit frustration with Bempah’s “prophecy theatrics.” Some see him as a liability,” an anonymous NPP communicator told Citinewsroom.

Public Divided

– Supporters of the woman praise her for speaking truth to power,” with hashtags like BempahBackOff trending.

– Bempah’s allies dismiss the criticism, blaming “opposition plants” for stirring drama.

Bigger Picture

The clash underscores growing tensions within Ghana’s political-spiritual complex, where religious leaders wield influence but risk backlash for perceived opportunism. As 2024 elections loom, Bempah’s next move—and the NPP’s tolerance of his brand of activism—will be closely watched.

Whether this marks the end of Bempah’s NPP romance or just another storm in a teacup, one thing’s clear: Ghana’s pulpit-politics drama is far from over.

No more E-levy, effective immediately – GRA orders

0

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has ordered the charging entities to immediately stop taking the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) charges.

GRA orders follow John Mahama’s assenting to the bills following parliament officially passing the Electronic Transfer Levy Repeal Bill 2025, abolishing the contentious E-Levy that taxed electronic financial transactions in Ghana.

Ahmed Suale ‘Killer’ Charges Amended, Denied Bail

0

The late Ahmed Suale

The police have amended the charge sheet in the case of Daniel Owusu Koranteng, a former employee of Tiger Eye P.I. who is accused of playing a part in the murder of investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale.

Among the allegations against him is that he declined multiple police invitations and subsequently disguised his identity by using someone’s National Identification Authority card to change the registration of his SIM card.

The accused was initially charged with one count of murder, but an amended charge sheet includes a charge of abetment of crime contrary to Section 2-(1) of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

He is accused of abetting two other suspects, who are currently on the run, to murder Ahmed Suale at his home on January 16, 2019.

He is also facing a substantive charge of murder contrary to Section 46 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Court documents indicate that the accused had sent pictures of the deceased to Kennedy Agyapong, who displayed them on Net2 TV and called for ‘retribution’ against him.

“Accused person having known the deceased’s place of abode and possible hideouts; led two other culprits currently at large to the house of the deceased where he was shot and killed,” the documents alleges.

Meanwhile, the Madina Magistrate Court presided over by Suzy Nkotey has denied a second application for bail on behalf of the accused, ruling it had no jurisdiction to grant him bail in a murder case.

The defence lawyer had prayed the court to grant him bail pending the committal proceeding, but the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Nana Afua Bamfoa Bamfo, opposed the application and urged the court to remand him.

The court turned down the application and remanded Daniel Owusu Koranteng to reappear on April 17, 2025.

Prosecuting Facts

The prosecution’s brief fact indicates that Daniel Owusu Koranteng had intimate relationship with Ahmed Suale and his family before his death.

It said tensions escalated in June 2018 when Kennedy Agyapong broadcasted images of Ahmed Suale on Net2 TV, calling for ‘retribution’ against the investigative journalist.

It said Ahmed Suale later identified the accused as the person who provided Mr. Agyapong with his photographs and confronted him through a WhatsApp chat.

“On January 16, 2019, following the publication of the deceased’s images, he was shot and killed in Madina. Investigation disclosed that, accused person having known the deceased’s place of abode and possible hideouts; led two other culprits currently at large to the house of the deceased where he was shot and killed,” the fact states.

It further indicates that call records placed the accused in Madina near the deceased’s residence; before, during and after the murder.

“Further analysis later showed that, the accused bolted from Madina to his residence in Amasaman late in the evening at about 2315 hours after the murder. Accused eventually fled to the United Kingdom somewhere in 2019 after the murder of the deceased.”

It said the accused declined multiple police invitations and subsequently disguised his identity by using someone’s National Identification Authority card to change the registration of his SIM card.

He is said to have later returned to Ghana, and intelligence led to his arrest in Amasaman on March 15, 2025.

“Accused admitted his relationship with Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, and further admitted having visited his residence. Accused again admitted having taken photographs of himself and with the deceased, but denied selling the photographs to anyone.”

It added that police investigation is ongoing to apprehend the suspects at large.

E-Levy faced too much opposition to succeed

0

Former Eastern Regional Minister Seth Acheampong has expressed support for the new administration’s decision to abolish the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), Betting Tax, and Emissions Tax.

He noted that the failure of these taxes to achieve their intended goals was expected, given the public backlash and legislative hurdles they faced.

“I believe that as an administration, we introduce taxes to support our vision and the policies we campaigned on. Initially, the E-Levy seemed like a positive step.

“However, we all witnessed the strong opposition and challenges surrounding its introduction. Given the issues that emerged, it is not surprising that it didn’t perform as expected or generate the desired revenue,” he said.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Thursday, April 3, Acheampong described the removal of the taxes as a welcome development, urging the new administration to explore innovative revenue-generation strategies.

“Its removal is quite welcoming, and I hope that the current administration will introduce more creative strategies to generate revenue for the country. If it’s gone, it’s gone; we do not need it as a country,” he stated.

His comments come after President John Dramani Mahama approved a series of legislative bills to eliminate multiple taxes, fulfilling the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) promise to ease the financial burden on Ghanaians.

Another Truck Loaded with ECG Cables Intercepted at Gomoa Awombrew in Central Region

0

In a major breakthrough, officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and police officers from the Swedru Divisional Police Command have apprehended several individuals in connection with the theft of ECG cables. The suspects were caught at Gomoa Awombrew in the central region, after vigilant locals raised suspicions about a broken-down truck, leading to an inspection of its cargo.

The successful operation is a welcome relief for the ECG, which has been grappling with the issue of cable theft. The stolen cables are suspected to be part of the missing ECG cables, which have caused power outages and disrupted electricity supply to many households and businesses.

The ECG has been working closely with the police to crack down on cable theft, and this latest arrest is a testament to their collaborative efforts. The suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of their involvement in the cable theft syndicate.

The central region, where the suspects were arrested, has been identified as a hotspot for cable theft. The region’s proximity to major urban centers and industrial areas makes it an attractive target for cable thieves, who can easily sell the stolen cables to unsuspecting buyers.

The ECG has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The company has also assured its customers that it is working tirelessly to ensure a stable and reliable electricity supply, despite the challenges posed by cable theft.

As the investigation continues, the ECG and the police are urging anyone with information about the stolen cables or the suspects to come forward. The successful prosecution of the suspects will serve as a deterrent to others involved in cable theft, and help to ensure that the electricity supply is not disrupted by the sélfish actions of a few individuals.

Ashaiman-Afienya/Dawhenya roads: Minister deploys 2 contractors  …to undertake emergency repairs

0

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has deployed two local construction firms, First Sky Group and Oswal Investments Limited, to immediately begin emergency road repairs on the Tema Motorway to Dawhenya and Ashaiman-Afienya stretches.

The move is expected to bring relief to thousands of road users who endure heavy traffic congestion and deteriorating road conditions on the two routes.

Mr Agbodza, MP, Adaklu, gave the directive on Tuesday when he toured the two stretches to assess first-hand of the traffic situation commuters face on daily basis.

The emergency repairs works, Mr Agbodza said, would be carried out alongside full-scale construction which is expected to begin within two months.

Per the schedule, First Sky Group would work on the Tema Motorway roundabout to the Central University section and Oswal Investments would work on the Ashaiman Roundabout to Afienya.

Interacting with the journalists after the tour, the minister assured commuters of the government’s commitment to completing the projects on schedule as he acknowledged their frustrations caused by delays.

“We are not going to leave our people in this mess, this pain. We shall fix these two. So within two months, we are going to work on it as quickly as possible. Within two months, you’ll see contractors back on the roads,” Mr Agbodza assured.

He also used the opportunity to address the slow pace of work on sections of the Ashaiman-Akosombo stretch.

He explained that the contractor handling the stretch, INZAC, was working on sections with less traffic congestion instead of the critical Ashaiman Roundabout to Michel Camp area.

As a result, he warned that government may have to descope their contract and bring in other contractor to speed up the work.

In furtherance, Mr Agbodza noted thats the dreaded debt exchange programme had severely impacted road project financing, leading to delays.

He, however, assured that the government remained committed to settling outstanding debts and completing key infrastructure projects.

“Despite our financial challenges, we will not leave our people in this mess. We will fix these roads and reduce the suffering of commuters,” he stressed.

Collaborate with security agencies to expose any wrong doing over your allegations

James Agalga (L) and Rev John Ntim Fordjour (R) James Agalga (L) and Rev John Ntim Fordjour (R)

The Chairman of the Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament, James Agalga, has instructed Rev John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member of the Committee, to adhere to the president’s directives and work in collaboration with the state security agencies regarding his allegations concerning the arrival of mysterious flights linked to drug trafficking.

In a letter dated April 2, 2025, shared by the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, James Agalga responded to Rev John Ntim Fordjour’s earlier request for a joint briefing by the National Security, Police CID, NIB, and the Narcotics Control Commission to the committee.

The requested briefing aimed to address critical issues, including the gold bust at Sapeiman, cocaine seizures, and the suspicious arrival of flights into the country.

In response, James Agalga, the Member of Parliament for Builsa North, emphasised the importance of his colleague working closely with the security agencies to verify the accuracy of his claims.

He stated that this is crucial as the country’s reputation is at stake.

Agalga also warned that failing to investigate the matter thoroughly and address it promptly could lead to serious risks and consequences for both the nation and its economy as a whole.

“In view of the fact that the allegation made by your good self in relation to drug trafficking and money laundering with the involvement of two aircrafts namely; Airmed Flight N823 AM and Cavok Air Antonov AN12B, which landed at the Kotoka Airport border on the commission of crime, it is important that you collaborate with the security agencies to expose any wrongdoing and also to safeguard the reputation of our beloved country,” he said in the letter.

Acknowledging the need for a briefing from the security agencies on these issues, Agalga further stated in his letter that the committee will take urgent steps to obtain updates and the outcomes of investigations conducted by the agencies thus far when the House reconvenes.

“Subsequently, urgent steps will be taken to invite the agencies listed above and the National Security Coordinator to brief the committee on the outcome of investigations conducted so far in relation to your request when the House reconvenes. Hon Colleague, please accept my warmest regards,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, voicing his opinion on the matter, Dafeamekpor accused Ntim Fordjour of attempting to use his immunity as a lawmaker to avoid being held accountable for his claims, rather than presenting them to the security agencies as directed by the president.

“Ntim Fordjour is advised by his Chairman, the Hon James Agalga to comply with the president’s directive to cooperate with the security agencies to investigate his allegations and not hide behind parliamentary cloak of oversight,” he posted on X on April 3, 2025.

How Rawlings stopped Gaddafi from bribing Ghanaian officials during 1982 AFCON final

0

Jerry John Rawlings and Muammar Gaddafi Jerry John Rawlings and Muammar Gaddafi

Legendary Ghanaian footballer Rev Osei Kofi has disclosed that former Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi attempted to influence Ghanaian officials to lose the 1982 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against his country.

According to him, while the team was preparing for the final against Libya, the late president was influencing Ghanaian officials with financial inducements for the team to deliberately lose the final.

However, after getting privy to the information, he informed then-President Jerry John Rawlings, who quickly spoke to the team officials to desist from taking bribes and win the trophy for the nation.

Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, Rev Osei stated that Rawlings’ intervention helped the team win the AFCON trophy for the fourth time.

“Muammar Gaddafi wanted to ‘buy’ the match in the 1982 AFCON final. Ghanaian officials were interested, but I alerted Rawlings, and he intervened,” he said.

The legendary player further attributed Ghana’s inability to win the AFCON since 1982 to a promise made to the squad that was not fulfilled by the state, which the ex-players grieve about.

“Ghana hasn’t won AFCON since 1982 because it has not honoured its promise to us,” he added.

During the 1982 AFCON finals, the Black Stars drew 1-1 in regulation time and went on to defeat Libya on penalties by 7-6.

The Black Stars have failed to win the AFCON despite making it to the finals in 2010 and 2015.

The team missed out on the 2025 edition, which will take place in Morocco, after an abysmal performance in the qualification stage.

Classy Straight Dress for Ladies: A Timeless Wardrobe Essential

0

The straight dress, a classic and versatile piece of clothing, has become a staple in every fashionable woman’s wardrobe. Known for its simple yet elegant design, the classy straight dress is a timeless piece that offers comfort, style, and sophistication. In 2025, this dress style continues to dominate the fashion scene, combining flattering silhouettes with modern trends to create a look that is both chic and effortlessly refined.

The defining feature of a straight dress is its streamlined cut, which runs vertically down the body without any shaping at the waist or hips. This creates a clean and elongating look that flatters various body types. The lack of excessive detailing or voluminous fabric allows the wearer to showcase a polished, minimalist style that can be easily dressed up or down. The straight dress is ideal for women who appreciate simplicity, offering an understated yet sophisticated appeal that’s never out of style.

One of the key reasons the straight dress remains a wardrobe favorite is its versatility. Whether you’re heading to a professional work meeting, a dinner date, or a casual outing, a classy straight dress can be styled to suit the occasion. For a professional look, pair it with a structured blazer and sleek heels. For a more casual setting, throw on a denim jacket or cardigan, along with comfortable flats or sandals. This adaptability makes the straight dress a must-have for any woman looking for a multifunctional, elegant outfit.

Classy straight dresses come in a variety of fabrics, each offering a different texture and feel. Cotton and linen versions are perfect for warm weather, providing a breathable and light option, while silk or satin straight dresses are ideal for formal occasions, giving off an air of luxury and refinement. Tweed or wool straight dresses, on the other hand, offer warmth and structure, making them perfect for colder months. The variety of fabric options ensures that the straight dress remains relevant year-round, adapting to any season or event.

While the straight dress is inherently simple, designers have introduced modern twists to keep it fresh and on-trend. Subtle details like side slits, pockets, high-low hems, or asymmetric necklines add a contemporary edge to the classic silhouette. Additionally, bold prints, from floral patterns to geometric designs, have been incorporated into the straight dress, allowing women to add their personal touch to an otherwise minimalist look. These details keep the straight dress fashionable and relevant in today’s dynamic fashion world.

The beauty of the classy straight dress lies in its ability to transition seamlessly from one event to the next. Whether you’re attending a wedding, a cocktail party, or a brunch with friends, the straight dress can be styled accordingly. For evening wear, add statement jewelry, a sleek clutch, and your favorite heels for an elevated look. For daywear, go for more subtle accessories and flats, creating a balanced and effortless outfit.

In conclusion, the classy straight dress for ladies is a fashion-forward yet timeless wardrobe staple that transcends seasonal trends. Its minimalist design, flattering fit, and versatility make it suitable for any occasion, whether formal or casual. By investing in a high-quality straight dress, women can enjoy a garment that embodies both elegance and practicality, proving that sometimes less truly is more.

Dubik Mahama’s statement comes in the wake of mounting concerns and public outrage over the alarming loss of the containers, which were meant for ECG’s operations.

An investigative committee was formed to look into the matter, and the findings have raised serious questions about the handling of the containers.

According to the committee’s report, out of a total of 2,491 containers that were expected to be cleared and distributed by ECG, 1,357 containers have been declared missing.

The missing containers, which reportedly contained vital equipment for ECG’s operations, are believed to have been left at the port for an extended period without being cleared, and now their disappearance has sparked a major scandal.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, April 3, the former MD expressed his surprise and disappointment over the situation, but he also assured that he would fully cooperate with any probe into the missing containers.

“The containers were never in the custody of the ECG. If they were in ECG’s custody, then you can hold ECG responsible but this is the case that they were still under the port authorities and so I am all for whatever investigations there will be and I am ready to sit with whoever to give my side of the story.”

The investigative report also revealed that:

– Before 2022, ECG had a dedicated fund that received weekly allocations for clearing shipments. However, this practice was discontinued due to a lack of funds, as cited by the ECG board.

– Despite financial constraints, ECG awarded contracts to two firms to clear the containers—one of which was pre-financed by ECG.

– One of these companies did not have the necessary license to handle the contract, raising concerns over procurement violations.

– ECG’s procurement directorate had been merged with its Housing and Estate unit.

– The Director of Procurement had no prior experience in procurement and was not a member of any professional procurement body.

‘No suspended projects in Ghana’ – World Bank clarifies

0

The World Bank has issued a definitive statement dispelling speculation about the status of its funded projects in Ghana.

In a brief but crucial communication released today, the global financial institution stated unequivocally, “No projects in the World Bank-financed portfolio in Ghana are currently suspended.”

This clarification comes amidst recent concerns and reports suggesting that certain World Bank-backed initiatives in Ghana may have been halted due to financial or governance issues.

The statement reassures stakeholders, including government agencies, development partners, and beneficiaries, that all projects under the World Bank’s portfolio in the country remain active and operational.

The World Bank is a key development partner for Ghana, funding projects across critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and energy.

Any disruption in these projects could have significant economic and social implications, potentially affecting livelihoods, service delivery, and Ghana’s broader development agenda.

The statement is likely aimed at quelling uncertainty, particularly as Ghana continues to navigate economic recovery efforts and seeks to strengthen investor confidence.

While the World Bank did not elaborate on the specific reasons for issuing the statement, recent reports and political debates have raised questions about Ghana’s financial dealings with international institutions.

There has been speculation about whether delays in disbursements or compliance-related concerns could impact World Bank-supported initiatives.

By categorically denying any suspensions, the World Bank is sending a clear message that its commitment to Ghana remains intact and that all its funded projects are continuing without interruption.

Ghana has been working to stabilise its economy following fiscal challenges in recent years, including high inflation, a depreciating currency, and debt restructuring negotiations with international creditors.

The government has relied on multilateral institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for financial support and policy guidance.

As Ghana moves forward with its economic recovery plans, maintaining smooth relations with the World Bank and ensuring the successful execution of development projects will be crucial.

Any doubts about project suspensions could have sparked concerns over funding availability, governance issues, or policy shifts—factors that could affect both public confidence and foreign investment.

I’m scandalised, sad by missing ECG containers report

0

Former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has expressed both shock and dismay over the alarming disappearance of over 1,300 ECG containers at the Tema Port, a situation that has left many questioning the transparency and effectiveness of the investigations surrounding the incident.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, April 3, Mahama expressed his deep dissatisfaction with the process, stating that he was not only shocked by the scale of the container disappearance but also saddened by the manner in which the investigative committee handled the situation.

Dubik Mahama, who had previously held the highest office at ECG, explained that he had not been given an opportunity to engage with the investigative committee, despite the fact that the report into the incident prominently referenced his name.

“I am scandalised and sad because for a report that has my name in it, the nice and decency of this whole thing should have been that I should be given an opportunity to speak to this committee. It has made it very difficult for me to catch up with the story.”

The committee set up to investigate the matter had been expected to address several key questions, including how the containers were lost, who was responsible for their disappearance, and what actions were being taken to recover the missing items.

Ghana move one place up in latest FIFA ranking

0

Ghana have made an upward movement in the latest FIFA ranking, making it their first since July 2024 when they moved from 64th to 60th.

The Black Stars now occupy the 76th position in the global ranking, having been in the 77th position since November 2024.

The positive movement follows Ghana’s winning start to the 2025 calendar during the last international break.

Ghana defeated Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, recording their first wins since the victory over the Central African Republic in June.

The wins see Ghana move above Israel, who have dropped two places in the ranking.

While the signs are positive for Ghana in the global ranking, they remain unchanged in the continental ranking.

Ghana sit 14th as far as the African continent is concerned.

Otto Addo will hope he can improve the team’s ranking further when they return to action later in the year.

Don’t let social media drive you into making irrational decisions

0

Ghanaian actress Vicky Zugah Ghanaian actress Vicky Zugah

Ghanaian actress Vicky Zugah has taken to social media to warn her followers against making risky decisions in response to trolls on social media.

In a video shared on Instagram on April 1, 2025, the actress cited a disturbing scenario where she saw a young woman buying six different anti-ageing supplements just because a social media troll called her “abrewa” (old lady).

“Her reason was that someone had commented ‘Abrewa’ (Old Lady) under a picture of hers she posted on social media. And this is actually a young, beautiful-looking lady. She didn’t look old to me in any way, and even if she did, when did it become a crime to grow old?

“Me, Vicky. I’ve been called ‘abrewa’ a countless number of times. Way back in primary school, because I naturally have dry hands and feet. But will I kill myself? No, because I did not create myself like that,” she stated.

The actress warned against letting strangers’ negativity dictate health choices.

“I can’t believe people allow total strangers’ comments on social media to drive them into making irrational decisions. I can understand that not all of us can stand social media trolls, but it is definitely not worth making decisions that will affect your health in the long term,” she said.

Zugah urged people to embrace ageing gracefully, stressing that not everyone gets the privilege of growing old.

‘Enjoy the blessings and grace of growing old and stop fighting it too much or taking anti-ageing this, anti-ageing that. Everyone gets to be a child, but not everyone gets to grow old.

‘A full-blown adult wakes up and decides to be an idiot by posting nonsense under your pictures, and you want to harm your organs because of that. These idiots have no single idea of the gravity of pain they are causing people by constituting new signs on social media. Ignore them,” she concluded.

I’m a Single Mother, But I Need a Man I Could Get Pregnant For Because I Want One More Child

0

Yoruba Nollywood actress and makeup artist, Dewunmi Fatai, has shared a deeply personal reflection on her life and future aspirations regarding motherhood. In a candid interview with Biola Adebayo, Fatai revealed her strong desire to have another child, expressing that she is actively seeking a suitable partner to help make this dream a reality.

Currently a mother to a nine-year-old son, Fatai admitted that she feels incomplete with only one child. She explained that while her child’s father has since gone on to have multiple children, she remains with just one. This situation has only fueled her determination to expand her family before she feels the biological window for childbirth closes. “I’m not satisfied with only one child; I need another one,” Fatai said, emphasizing that her son’s upcoming ninth birthday marks a pivotal moment in her life.

The actress opened up about the emotional and psychological challenges of being a single mother, and her strong desire for a second child. “My baby daddy has already given birth to four while I have only one,” she shared. “I’m single and looking for a good man I can have a child with.”

Fatai also reflected on a potential move to the United Kingdom, a decision she had previously considered but ultimately decided against. “Despite being a single mother, I need a man I can get pregnant for because I want to give birth to one more child before I finally give up on childbirth,” Fatai said, underscoring her determination to grow her family. She expressed that having another child remains a priority, and she is hopeful that the right partner will come along to help her realize this dream.

As Fatai looks ahead to her future, her aspirations reflect not only her personal goals but also her desire to expand her family and build a support system that will allow her to embrace the next chapter of motherhood. Tomato paste prices surge despite falling fresh tomato costs

0

Despite a decline in fresh tomato prices, the cost of tomato paste continues to rise, highlighting a divergence in price trends within Ghana’s food market.

This comes as new data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) shows a drop in food inflation, from 28.1% in February 2025 to 26.5% in March 2025.

According to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) Report, tomato paste recorded the highest month-on-month price increase of 8.1% among the 25 key food items in Ghana’s national food basket.

This is significant given that overall month-on-month inflation for March 2025 stood at just 0.2%. In contrast, fresh tomatoes saw a price deflation of 4.9%, reflecting lower costs at the retail level.

Other items that recorded notable price increases in March 2025 include sea-caught fish, which saw a 3.2% rise, and hotel accommodation, which increased by 2.4%.

Looking at a broader set of 307 items, independent of their weight in the inflation calculation, ginger continues to top year-on-year price increases, recording a surge of 137.4%. Fresh okro followed with a price increase of 94.6%, while beans saw a 75.6% rise over the past year.

It is possible for Justice Baffoe Bonnie to implicate the current Chief Justice—Ekow Assafuah

It is possible for Justice Baffoe Bonnie to implicate the current Chief Justice—Ekow Assafuah

News Hub Creator11h

A recent statement by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Old Tafo, Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has sparked heated discussions about possible power struggles within Ghana’s judiciary. Speaking on Oyerepa Radio, Assafuah suggested that former Justice Baffoe Bonnie might have an interest in implicating the current Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, as a means to facilitate her removal and advance his own standing.

“It is possible for Justice Baffoe Bonnie to implicate the current Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo since he will benefit from the removal of the current Chief Justice,” Assafuah claimed. His remarks have since gained traction, with legal analysts and political observers weighing in on the implications of such an assertion.

Justice Baffoe Bonnie, a long-serving Supreme Court judge, was appointed by President John Agyekum Kufuor in 2008 and is currently the senior-most judge on the bench. Chief Justice Torkornoo, who was sworn into office in 2023, holds a position of authority over the judiciary. Given this dynamic, Assafuah’s claims have raised questions about internal judicial politics and possible succession interests.

While neither Justice Baffoe Bonnie nor Chief Justice Torkornoo has responded to the allegations, legal experts have urged caution, emphasizing the need for evidence before making such serious claims. Some have warned that baseless accusations could undermine public confidence in the judiciary, while others have called for greater scrutiny of power structures within the Supreme Court.

The unfolding debate has brought renewed attention to the transparency and integrity of Ghana’s judicial system. As speculation continues, many are keenly watching whether this controversy will lead to further revelations or fade amid ongoing political discourse.

AGI, Chamber of Telcos commend govt over removal of E-levy

0

The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) has welcomed the removal of the 1% Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), stating that it will boost digital financial transactions and reduce the cost of doing business in Ghana.

The CEO of AGI, Seth Twum Akwaboah, speaking to Citi Business News at MTN House in Accra during the first anniversary of the telecommunication company’s CEO in office, commended the government for its decision, highlighting its positive impact on businesses, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Seventy-five percent of our members are SMEs, and for them, digital transactions are essential. Any additional cost discourages their use. The removal of the levy will not only cut costs but also encourage more businesses to embrace digital financial services and electronic money transfers.

“It’s a commitment the President made, and now that it has been fulfilled, we look forward to seeing its impact on business growth”, the CEO of AGI said.

Meanwhile, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, stressed the broader economic benefits of eliminating the E-Levy.

“With this removal, we expect an increase in both the volume and value of digital transactions. This growth will boost profitability for financial institutions, leading to higher corporate tax revenues for the government, “he noted.

He added: “Additionally, more digital transactions will reduce the cost of printing physical currency, benefiting the Bank of Ghana. It will also generate valuable data for policymakers to enhance fiscal and monetary strategies,”

Ing. Dr. Ashigbey also noted that the removal of the E-Levy aligns with the government’s financial inclusion strategy, fostering a more digitized economy while easing financial burdens on businesses and consumers alike.

President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday April 2, 2025 assented to a series of legislative bills meant to abolish several taxes, including the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), Betting Tax, and Emissions Tax.

This move aligns with the government’s commitment to alleviating the financial burden on Ghanaians.
