Former boxer Brimah Kamako, popularly known as Bukom Banku, has already begun work on the Bukom astroturf after taking over as its caretaker.

In multiple videos shared on his official TikTok page, Bukom Banku, along with his two sons, Abubakar Kamoko and Mustapha Kamoko, were seen maintaining the pitch.

The former boxer has taken control of the facility, which was previously managed by a committee appointed in 2024.

The Bukom astroturf was commissioned in 2020 after the previous government transformed the original sandy park into a modern facility as part of its sports infrastructure development agenda.

However, by 2022, the pitch had deteriorated, with residents blaming the government for rushing its construction.

The park was renovated in 2024, with an administrative office added.

‘Help me save my daughter’s sight’ – Mother of 16-year-old girl hit by bullet cries for support

0

The family of 16-year-old Suzi Adwoa Penamang, a student of the Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, Ashanti Region, is making an urgent appeal for financial assistance to save their daughter from going blind.

This follows a tragic incident on Friday, April 4, 2025, when Suzi was struck in the eye by a stray bullet during a confrontation between a student, Bernard Amoabeng, and some of his classmates.

The altercation reportedly began as a dispute over whether a gun Bernard possessed was real and functional. In an attempt to prove its authenticity, Bernard allegedly discharged the weapon, unintentionally hitting Suzi in the eye.

Suzi was initially admitted to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and has since been discharged. However, her condition remains critical, and she continues to undergo regular medical reviews. Her family fears that without immediate medical intervention, she could lose her sight permanently.

The case has sparked public outrage and reignited concerns about student safety, indiscipline, and the disturbing presence of weapons in schools. Many have called for urgent reforms and stricter measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Narrating the family’s ordeal, Suzi’s mother, Afia Comfort, shared the emotional and physical toll the incident has taken on her daughter.

“All I need from Ghanaians is to help me get back the eye of my daughter. I beg you, help me operate on the eye of my daughter. I don’t have any help from anywhere. The MPs, President Mahama, please come to my aid. My daughter cannot sleep or eat. I beg you, help me,” the distraught mother pleaded.

The family is now calling on the public, government officials, and benevolent individuals for support to fund Suzi’s treatment and restore her vision.

IGP sets new direction of engagement with media

0

The Police Administration has pledged to deepen engagement with citizens and the media to ensure transparency and trust for efficient operations.

The Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, said the active participation of the people would enable the police to tackle crime head-on by taking the fight to robbers and law-breakers in various communities in the country.

“And also, galamsey has become an issue that all of us are dealing with and the IGP has made a commitment that he is going to take the fight up.

“As we speak, in our regions where we have some galamsey activities, our regional commanders are working hard to stem the tide,” she added.

ACP Ansah-Akrofi was speaking during a working visit to the Daily Graphic in Accra yesterday to formally brief the paper of the new direction of the service.

She was accompanied by ASP Richmond Mensah, Staff Officer at the Public Affairs Directorate; ASP Angela Kumi, Officer responsible for External Engagements, and Chief Inspector Gideon Boatse, a Station Officer at the Directorate, among others.

New direction

The director explained further that “we have a new administration, a new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tettey Yohunu, who extends his regards to all of you.

“He has a new management team on board and a new direction for the service.

One of the key areas that has been affected in this new vision for the service is our engagement with the general public, the communities we serve,” she said.

The director, however, said that to be able to realise their objectives, they would also need the active support of the media.

“You have been our partners over the years and if our stories will go out, if the public will get to know what we are doing, if our efforts in fighting crime will be heard, we will need you to do so.

“I think over the years the administration adopted a different approach to our communication and media strategy.

“Over time, we received a lot of feedback from the general public, from our stakeholders, from the media.

And it is based on those feedback that we have shaped our vision going forward by engaging you directly.

“The IGP’s instruction is clear. Get to the people you serve, take policing closer to them, let them understand what you do, let them see what you are doing, talk to them and bring on board the media, because without them we cannot go far,” she said.

The Editor, Graphic, Theophilus Yartey, said his outfit has had good relations with the police over the years.

“We are happy to welcome you here. Graphic is not only the leading newspaper in the country but also the most credible, and will be 75 years in October this year.

“So, it tells you that we have managed to reinvent ourselves.

We have managed to make ourselves relevant to our stakeholders, our readers and our audience and everybody. We will be around in perpetuity,” he added.

The Editor pledged to enhance collaboration with the police, saying “we will ensure that we always knock on your doors.

We will always be calling you for news because that is all that we deal in. We sell information”.

Skin disease outbreak affects over 46 residents in Avetakpo community

0

Avetakpo (V/R), April. 10, GNA – An outbreak of a communicable skin disease has hit several residents of Avetakpo, a farming community in the Ho West district.

The disease, which has spread to neighboring communities, has affected over 46 residents, leaving both children and adults to experience sleep deprivation, acute and prolonged bodily pains.

Togbe Kwasi Amedor III of Mepe Gbavie-Dekume has expressed deep concern over the outbreak, citing the community’s inability to access medical treatment due to lack of funds.

Mama Aku Seme II, the Queenmother of the area, engaged officials of the Ho West District Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), who mentioned that a required budget of GH₵ 6,642.50 would be needed to combat the disease.

“We are pleading with the government to come to our aid because we are not able to raise the total of GH₵ 6,642.50 estimated budget,” Togbe Amedor stated.

The chief called for immediate government intervention to support the community with funds for mass medical treatment and stringent measures to prevent further infections.

The Ghana News Agency has observed that the community’s situation is further complicated by inadequate access to clean drinking water, with residents sharing water sources with cattle and animals, potentially contributing to the outbreak.

Additionally, health officials have not provided the actual name of the disease or its source, leaving the community uncertain.

Some victims urged immediate government support to address the outbreak as the situation becomes increasingly serious.

The GNA also observed that a comprehensive response is needed, including emergency funding to support mass medical treatment and disease investigation to determine the source and nature of the disease.

There is also the urgent need of water and sanitation interventions to improve access to clean drinking water to prevent further outbreaks.

Mr Courage Dogbe, Health Promotion Officer of the GHS, said the number of infections was exaggerated mostly because of poor hygiene.

He said the infection is fungal in nature and GHS are on top of the situation.

A daring young Ghanaian man seen dancing at a wedding ceremony A daring young Ghanaian man seen dancing at a wedding ceremony

A daring young Ghanaian man has sparked a buzz on social media after a video of his bold and entertaining dance performance at a recent wedding went viral.

The unidentified performer, dressed in a stylish kaftan and matching slippers, took to the dance floor and showed his impressive dance moves in front of the newlywed couple.

Together with two of his friends, they danced to Patoranking’s hit song “Love You Die,” featuring Diamond Platnumz, which was released in 2017.

What made the scene even more striking was that the young man managed to balance a plate filled with balls of banku, a traditional Ghanaian dish, while dancing to the music.

As he joyfully performed in front of the couple, two gentlemen attempted to pull him away, but he refused to leave.

They eventually walked off the dance floor, leaving the young man to continue his routine.

Despite being signalled and spoken to by others, he remained unfazed and kept dancing.

It was after this point that his friends joined him, showcasing their impressive moves as the song played, resulting in a lively show that left the wedding guests cheering.

The buzz surrounding his performance took an intriguing turn when social media users began speculating about his connection to the bride.

Some alleged that he was the bride’s ex-boyfriend, while others disputed this claim.

However, someone who claimed to be a guest at the wedding commented on the video, explaining that the young men were friends of the groom and were simply celebrating his happiness.

Regardless of the uncertainty about his relationship with the bride, one thing was clear; the young man’s confidence and dance skills earned him a spot in the hearts of many.

As the debate continues, one can’t help but admire his carefree spirit and impressive dance moves.

Arsenal Triumphs 3-0 Over Real Madrid

Declan Rice after his first goal

In a remarkable UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg at Emirates Stadium, Arsenal secured a 3-0 victory over reigning champions Real Madrid on April 8, 2025.

Midfielder, Declan Rice, who had never scored a direct free-kick in over 300 senior appearances, delivered two stunning free-kick goals in the second half, becoming the first player to achieve this feat in the knockout stages of the competition.

Mikel Merino added a third goal in the 75th minute, capitalizing on Arsenal’s offensive dominance.  This commanding performance places Arsenal in a strong position ahead of the return leg at Santiago Bernabéu, though Rice emphasized the need for caution given Real Madrid’s storied history in European comebacks.

2025 Budget Sidestepped Employment, Says TUC

0

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson – Minister of Finance

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has, in its reaction to the 2025 budget, stated that “it was silent on the fundamental issues affecting employment creation in Ghana.”

It added in a statement issued Tuesday that “the macroeconomic targets for 2025 side-stepped employment.”

In government’s current resetting mode “it should muster courage to set employment targets sector by sector and region by region.”

Ghana, TUC advised, must move away from the usual answer “that there is no data on employment. We need statistical evidence for job creation across the 16 regions.”

The TUC urged government to prioritise support to the private sector as part of its efforts to create decent employment. Pointing at three areas that deserve special attention; the first being the national trade policy which it noted is inconsistent with our employment objectives. “It penalizes domestic production and makes imports excessively lucrative. We must consciously work to limit imports of some of the basic products we can produce here. This is the only way we can build domestic champions and get more of our people employed,” TUC stressed.

Our businesses cannot be competitive overnight unless we nurture them for a while, TUC noted, adding “early exposure to competition will destroy them and the potential jobs they can offer.”

The second issue relates to interest rates, TUC stated, adding that “the current high interest rates regime makes business expansion almost impossible.”

To address this “the TUC is urging government to intervene in the money lending market and find ways to reduce the usurious interest rates. Government must seriously consider capping the spread between the lending and deposit rates. This could have the twin effects of stimulating savings and bringing down lending rates.”

The third point is about the enhancement of productivity, TUC stated, as it called for concrete action to enhance productivity in both the public and private sectors as part of the efforts to create decent employment.

On the wage situation, the TUC recalled its earlier observation when it noted that “the wage situation in Ghana has worsened in the last few years.”

At GH¢19.97, it went on “the Daily

Minimum Wage in 2025 translates into a mere US$1.28 for eight (8) hours of work,” and this it adds “is just about half of the International Poverty Line of US$2.15 per day.”

The significant proportion of workers receiving the minimum wage are exploited and impoverished, and so “Government must be concerned as we are about the plight of minimum wage earners.”

The wage on the Single Spine Salary Structure from which the bulk of public sector workers are paid has equality challenges.

In the submission, the TUC highlighted its displeasure with the management of the basic social security scheme, which is administered by Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), adding “we equally express unhappiness with the delays in the payment of pension contributions by Government and the decision by Government to exclude all the security agencies from the pension unification programme.”

Western Regional Minister appeals to Ghanaians to buy made in Ghana products

0

The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has acknowledged the vital role small businesses play in growing the country’s economy.

Consequently, he made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to patronize made-in-Ghana products in local markets in order to empower and support the growth of indigenous businesses.

He emphasized that Ghanaians must make a conscious effort to buy locally made products to strengthen the country’s economy.

“Buy from them. Mentor them. Partner with them. Let us empower our entrepreneurs so they can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their global counterparts,” the Minister remarked.

“Together, we can build an inclusive, resilient, and globally competitive economy—powered by our Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (SMEs).”

He made these comments while speaking at the 4th edition of the Chamber Bazaar 2025, a trade exhibition organized by the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) in the Western Region to showcase locally made Ghanaian products by Ghanaian companies.

He described the trade fair as not only inspiring but also heartwarming and refreshing.

Under the theme “Empowering and Preparing SMEs for Global Markets,” the Minister underscored the importance of positioning businesses in this era of cross-border trade aided by technology.

“It has become even more relevant for businesses to better position themselves and take advantage of global markets. It is only through international commerce—guided by principles of fair trade and mutual interest—that businesses can grow and explore their full potential.”

He added, “Let me seize this opportunity to express my gratitude to the regional manager and the Chairman for their invitation. I commend and congratulate them for this initiative and their remarkable enthusiasm in organizing such a successful bazaar. Our national president is here with us—Mr. Stephane Miezan, you are warmly welcome.”

The Minister continued, “Not too long ago, the leadership of the Chamber engaged me in my office to congratulate me. And today, here we are again for another engagement. Let me assure the business community in the Western Region that, together with the Chamber of Commerce, we will work to promote business development in the region. We have the potential to make a real difference—thanks to our strategic location and abundant natural resources.”

Joseph Nelson noted that the activities of small businesses should serve as motivation for others to do more.

“We must encourage increased investment in the region and explore partnerships both locally and internationally to support business growth. Without a doubt, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) remain the backbone of our economy—creating employment, driving innovation, and contributing significantly to Ghana’s GDP.”

He further highlighted the role of SMEs in the Western Region, stating: “SMEs form the lifeblood of our local economies—from agro-processing, arts and crafts, to retail, manufacturing, and service delivery.

They embody the creativity, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit of our people. However, we must also admit that SMEs face a number of challenges, particularly when it comes to accessing global markets.”

These challenges include, but are not limited to:

• Limited access to finance and modern equipment

• Inadequate capacity and limited knowledge of international trade practices

• Difficulties in meeting international standards and regulations

• Insufficient data on emerging global market trends

To address these issues, the Minister proposed a multi-faceted strategy that is both forward-looking and inclusive.

“Firstly, access to finance remains crucial,” he noted.

He added, “The NDC government, through its 2024 People’s Manifesto, has committed to establishing a Ghana SME Fund—a dedicated financing mechanism to support SMEs with low-interest loans, grants, and equity funding. Additionally, tax incentives and access to venture capital will be enhanced to ease the financial burden on entrepreneurs.”

“Secondly, the government will invest in capacity building through regional enterprise support hubs that will provide technical support, digital skills, and mentorship opportunities. These will ensure that our SMEs are not only efficient but globally competitive.”

“Thirdly, we must help our businesses meet international standards. The government will work closely with regulatory agencies such as the Ghana Standards Authority and the Food and Drugs Authority to streamline compliance processes and provide advisory services to SMEs.”

“Fourthly, the digital economy presents SMEs with unprecedented opportunities. We will expand digital infrastructure and training programs to ensure our SMEs can leverage e-commerce platforms, digital payment systems, and virtual trade expos to reach markets beyond our borders.”

The Minister emphasized that empowering and preparing SMEs for the global market also means encouraging partnerships.

“We need to connect our local entrepreneurs with international counterparts, donor agencies, and trade facilitators who can open doors to global supply chains.”

He assured that the region is committed to creating a business-friendly environment through policies that reduce bureaucracy, provide market access, and promote innovation.

“The Western Region has a strategic advantage—its proximity to ports, abundant resources, and industrious population—which we must fully leverage,” he stated.

In conclusion, he said, “I want to commend the Western Regional Chapter of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) for this initiative, and I urge all stakeholders—government, development partners, financial institutions, and individuals—to rally behind our SMEs.”

Afenyo-Markin’s plea prevented NIB from arresting Ntim Fordjour

Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye and Rev John Ntim Fordjour Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye and Rev John Ntim Fordjour

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Odododiodio, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has claimed that the only reason the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) did not arrest the Member of Parliament for Assin North, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, on April 9, 2025, was due to a request from Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin.

According to Vanderpuye, Afenyo-Markin convinced the NIB not to arrest Fordjour by pleading that he would present him to them on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

Vanderpuye further stated that the press conference held at Ntim Fordjour’s home after the NIB operatives had left was simply an attempt to mislead the public, Channelnews.com reports.

“What happened yesterday was a drama because the Minority Leader asked if he had not already agreed with government officials on how to exercise this right. He had an agreement that, at any point, if any of his people were needed, he would voluntarily present them,” Vanderpuye explained.

“Afenyo-Markin pleaded that he would present Ntim Fordjour today at 10 a.m. That is what led to the abrogation of the operation. Otherwise, they would have spent the night in his house, holding a vigil to prevent National Security from carrying out their duties. And because we are a listening government, we allowed and accepted his plea,” he added.

The former MP clarified that, contrary to some claims, the Assin North legislator could indeed be arrested by NIB operatives because Parliament was not in session at the time.

“What happened yesterday is not news. The Member of Parliament was not in Parliament when the operation took place. The invitation through the Speaker applies only when there is an invitation. The fact that you are a Member of Parliament does not exempt you from arrest, but you do have a privilege that is only exercised through the Speaker,” Vanderpuye explained.

He also warned that if the Minority Leader fails to fulfill his promise, NIB officers will seek out and arrest the Assin North MP.

Background:

Rev John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South and the Minority’s Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, claimed in a press conference on April 1, 2025, that two flights, an air ambulance and a private jet, might have been involved in drug trafficking or money laundering.

He alleged that one of the aircraft, AirMED flight L823AM, landed in Ghana on March 20 and stayed for five days without any record of transporting a patient.

These allegations led President John Dramani Mahama to order security agencies to “immediately and fully collaborate with the honourable Member of Parliament so he provides all necessary information to investigate the allegations and take all action necessary to expose any drug dealing.”

President Mahama also directed all security agencies to work with Rev Ntim Fordjour to investigate the drug trafficking and money laundering claims involving the two suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

He emphasised that Ghana has a zero-tolerance policy for drug trafficking and will not allow the country to be used as a transit or final destination for illicit drugs.

On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, NIB officials stormed Ntim Fordjour’s residence to pick him up for questioning regarding his allegations.

However, the officers left the residence without arresting him following the intervention of leading figures of the New Patriotic Party, including Afenyo-Markin.

CILAG members reminded to prioritise ethical practices – NIC boss

Acting Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Abiba Zakariah Acting Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Abiba Zakariah

The Acting Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Abiba Zakariah, has reminded members of the Chartered Insurance Ladies Association of Ghana (CILAG) to underwrite and practise insurance with integrity.

“The first duty as professional insurance ladies especially is to underwrite with integrity and not allow themselves to be cowered into doing unhealthy practices for negative things, lest they be remembered as weak professionals,”

She made this known during her address at the launch of CILAG’s 10th anniversary, held at the auditorium of the National Insurance Commission (NIC) in Accra on April 10, 2025.

The Acting Commissioner, who is also a founding member and the first President of CILAG, urged members to contribute to the sanitization of the insurance industry, one of the new strategic pillars in regulatory policy and to join in the conversation around market penetration.

She further encouraged them to be part of the broader success story of bringing Africa and the world to Ghana through insurance-focused discussions.

She added, “Women perform 60% of the world’s work and produce 50% of the food yet earn only 10% of the income. Whether the issue is poverty, improving education in the developing world, or fighting global climate change or addressing nearly any other challenge we face, empowering women is critical if we want to succeed. Women have abilities that are far beyond our thoughts and capabilities.”

Dr Zakariah urged the ladies to embrace current technological trends to become better versions of themselves as professionals.

Francisca Karikari, CEO of Glorygate Capital and an experienced figure in the insurance sector, served as chairperson for the event.

She commended the association’s leadership, under its President Nicholina Naa Yeye Aduamuah, for its efficiency and achievements.

These include the annual orphanage project, the establishment of an awards scheme for the best female student at the Ghana Insurance College (GIC), and the organisation of health and wellness webinars for members.

She also highlighted CILAG’s instrumental role in the formation of the African Insurance Women Association (AIWA).

Mrs. Karikari encouraged members to “continue attending events and participate in activities to network, learn and relearn to advance their careers.”

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch, President of CILAG, Nicholina Naa Yeye Aduamuah, shared the association’s vision which aims to promote integrity and support among professional insurance women, encouraging their growth up the corporate ladder.

She emphasised that beyond personal development, CILAG also aims to uplift others through mentorship programmes.

Aduamuah also mentioned that while the association receives some financial support from industry players, raising funds for their projects remains one of their biggest challenges.

In congratulating the association on its 10th anniversary, Ms. Rebekah Ratliff, Vice-President of the North American Insurance Association (NAIA) and special guest at the event, expressed NAIA’s readiness to collaborate with CILAG and the broader Ghanaian insurance industry.

The event was also attended by patrons and executives of CILAG, the Deputy Commissioner of Insurance, Bernard Ohemeng Baah, the President of the Young Insurance Professionals, Lawrence Daniels, and the CEO of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana, Elsy Adadey.

Other distinguished guests included Davis Iyasere, Secretary-General of the West African Insurance Companies Association (WAICA), Faris Atrikie, Managing Director of Priority Insurance, and CEOs of several insurance companies.

The event was anchored by Mawuli Zogbenu, Head of Public Relations at the NIC.

IGP heads to Bawku after irate youth allegedly torch Ayariga’s house

0

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, is leading a high-powered team of operations, investigation, and intelligence officers to Bawku in the Upper East Region to assess the security situation on the ground.

This move follows a violent confrontation between some youth and the police, during which one person, Fuseini Iddrisu, tragically lost his life.

Five others, including a police officer and an immigration officer, sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Calm was restored in Bawku on April 9, 2025, through a joint operation by the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces.

However, tensions flared again on Thursday, April 10, when a group of agitated youth allegedly set ablaze the residence of the Member of Parliament for the area, Mahama Ayariga. The incident occurred in Wiidi, a suburb of Bawku.

Reports indicate that the MP’s residence was initially attacked by youth pelting stones, breaking windows and other parts of the building. The assault escalated into an arson attack the following morning.

The violence is believed to have been triggered by outrage over the alleged killing of a young man by the police.

In a statement released by the Ghana Police Service on Thursday, April 10, the Service said, “While at Bawku, the IGP and his team will also commiserate with the deceased family, visit the injured persons on admission and reach out to officers who lost their properties as a result of the violence.”

The Police assured the public of their continued collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces, traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and other stakeholders to maintain peace, security, and law and order in Bawku.

NPP will not come up with “silly agendas” if the NDC’s plan is clear on its goals

0

Renowned comedian and social commentator, Kwaku Sintim Mintah (KSM), has criticized the Mahama administration for its lack of clear direction and effective governance, which he believes has allowed the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to dominate discussions with distractions.
In a recent submission on his YouTube channel, KSM highlighted the ongoing dispute between the government and the NPP over a cocaine scandal, which he feels has overshadowed critical government initiatives. He argued that the apparent

Nigerian governor warns of Boko Haram comeback

0

The governor of Nigeria’s Borno state has warned that jihadist group Boko Haram is making a comeback after its fighters staged a series of attacks and seized control of some parts of the north-eastern state.

Babagana Zulum called for more military assistance for soldiers fighting the insurgency.

The Nigerian government has downplayed the governor’s fears, saying security in the country has improved in the last 18 months.

Borno state has been at the centre of a 15-year insurgency by Boko Haram, which has forced more than two million people to flee their homes and killed more than 40,000.

At the height of its insurgency in 2015, Boko Haram controlled huge areas in Borno state before being beaten back.

The militant group gained international notoriety in April 2014 when it kidnapped more than 270 schoolgirls from the town of Chibok, also in Borno state.

Following a relative lull, the militants have been targeting army bases, police stations and rural communities.

In January, an ambush by the Boko Haram breakaway faction, Islamic State West Africa Province (Iswap), reportedly killed at least 20 Nigerian soldiers, while another attack in the same period left 40 farmers dead.

Governor Zulum said it was disheartening that the group now attacked and kidnapped people in many communities almost on a daily basis.

In a meeting with national security officials, he said that Borno State was “losing ground,” against the jihadists.

Security analysts say the concentration of soldiers in north-western Nigeria to deal with banditry and kidnappings has led to a reduction in the number of troops on the frontline with Boko Haram in Borno and other parts of the north-east.

The fight against the militants became even more challenging after neighbouring Niger withdrew its troops from a regional force set up to tackle the jihadist group.

Another analyst, Hamisu Sani, told the BBC that it wouldn’t be easy to defeat Boko Haram but it wasn’t impossible.

“No matter how our military weaken them, they can always regroup and will remain a threat,” he said.

“The solution would be to crush the fighters in their entirety – which is possible given the right support to our military.”

‘I will cheat on my husband the next time he cheats’

Kumawood actor Otelee and wife, Gifty Nana Afriyie play videoKumawood actor Otelee and wife, Gifty Nana Afriyie

Gifty Nana Afriyie, the wife of Kumawood actor Otelee, has stated that the next time she finds her husband having an extramarital affair, she would also do the same.

In excerpts from an interview with Zionfelix, shared on social media on April 10, 2025, she said it’s about time women started reciprocating the pain they receive from men.

“I have noticed that we have been forgiving men for long, and so if we don’t reciprocate the same thing for them to feel the pain, there is no way they will stop.

“I have witnessed him cheating on me several times, and I have also made up my mind that the next time he cheats on me, I will also do same. It’s not an easy thing to be cheated on,” she said.

Gifty Nana Afriyie further stated that she does not oppose her husband marrying a second wife, however, she outlined certain conditions she would require him to meet before agreeing to such a decision.

“I can allow him to marry a second wife, however, before he does that, he should gift me a two-story building, send me abroad, and also buy cars for me. He should also make sure my children are well taken care of.

“If he is also to do all these for me, I will allow him to marry as many women as he desires,” she added.

She further disclosed that she sometimes feels the urge to seek divorce, but continues to stay in the marriage because of their children.

“I have told him several times that I want a divorce, and I even told him yesterday. But he has a nice way of calming me down. Sometimes, patience and my children are the reasons why I don’t leave when I become angry. If I tell my children that I am traveling, they become suspicious and begin to cry,” she added.

TUC advocates reform of Ghana’s trade policies

0

By Iddi Yire

Accra, April 10, GNA – The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has advocated the reform of Ghana’s trade policies to make it consistent with employment objectives.

The TUC in a comment of the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government also noted that rather than a singular focus on inflation, the Bank of Ghana must deploy its financial and human resources to the fight against joblessness as well.

It said in the TUC’s submission to Government on the 2025 budget, it indicated that Ghana’s recurring economic challenges stemmed from a flawed macroeconomic framework that had been implemented since the mid-1980s.

It said in that framework; employment was treated as a residual outcome of economic growth and macroeconomic stability.

The TUC said this assumption had proven to be false given that in the last 40 years of positive economic growth, joblessness had increased, and employment had shifted to the informal sector.

“Good jobs have become harder to obtain.

While overprioritizing macro stability, the framework has resulted in recurring bouts of macroeconomic instability,” it stated.

“This is reflected in the persistence of the inflation problem in Ghana, high interest rates, subdued economic growth, and depreciating national currency.”

The TUC said the macroeconomic policy framework had led Ghanaians to hand over the natural resource sector – the most important sector of the Ghanaian economy – to foreign interest.

Adding that supported by a regime of massive and senseless fiscal giveaways, the framework effectively strips us of ownership of our gold and other natural resources.

It reiterated that other important elements of this flawed macroeconomic policy framework were the liberalisation of external trade and inflation-targeting.

The TUC said trade liberalisation had over-exposed domestic enterprises to unsustainable foreign competition and wiped out many of them.

It said inflation-targeting had produced one of the highest interest rates in Africa.

It intimated that as part of the 2025 budget process, the TUC had called for a reset and change of “…the failed macroeconomic policy framework”.

The TUC said their objective was for a new model of economic management that would lead to “faster economic growth” and accelerate the creation of decent employment.

“While the 2025 budget appears to recognise the need to “…reset our economic model…”, it nevertheless failed to lead the country away from the moribund macroeconomic policy framework.”

It said the 2025 budget remains within the same macroeconomic policy framework

as its predecessors; declaring that in a business-as-usual mode, 2025 sets target for inflation and growth but none for employment.

The TUC said it rests on the flawed assumption that once the nation tames inflation and the economy grows, good jobs would follow.

It said a major effect of the current macroeconomic policy framework was that it had constrained the growth potential of the economy in the past.

It underscored that sticking with the framework meant that the nation could only grow at four per cent in 2025.

It said in the last 40 years economic growth had averaged 5.5 per cent.

The TUC said countries that had transformed their economies in the last 40 years including China sustained double-digit growth for 30 years or more.

It said given population growth of over two per cent and that fact many of the growing sectors were in foreign hands, and subject to resource repatriation, four per cent growth was anemic growth.

Adding that it changes virtually nothing.

It said the resetting agenda must incorporate fundamental changes to the nation’s macroeconomic policy.

“We must grow faster than we have done in the last 40 years.”

The TUC said the policy framework must address the employment challenge and give hope to the youth; saying “We must end the colonial domination of our natural resource sector”.

Investors move to BoG bills over decline in treasury bill yields

0

Investors divert to BoG bills over decline in T-bills Investors divert to BoG bills over decline in T-bills

Investors are quickly shifting their focus from Treasury bills to Bank of Ghana (BoG) bills, which are currently offering returns of approximately 28%.

This shift is being driven by a sharp decline in Treasury bill yields, resulting in a notable under-subscription in the government’s recent auction.

According to IC Insights, the 100-basis-point increase in the policy rate is expected to sustain demand for Open Market Operations (OMO) securities, further dampening interest in Treasury bills.

“However, the ongoing squeeze on public spending will ease the financing requirement and avert an upward reversal in T-bill rates, barring any foreign exchange shocks,” the report noted.

In the last auction, the government rejected GH¢2.37 billion worth of bids that exceeded its yield corridor, accepting only GH¢1.69 billion out of a targeted GH¢4.39 billion.

This partial uptake covered just 40% of the GH¢4.22 billion in maturing bills, highlighting tightening liquidity in the market.

As a result, Treasury bill yields declined week-on-week by 6 basis points, 23 basis points, and 1 basis point for the 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day tenors, settling at 15.65%, 16.50%, and 18.84%, respectively.

The significant bid rejections underscore a misalignment between investor yield expectations and the government’s yield targets, particularly as plans to reopen the bond market gain traction.

Looking ahead, the government aims to raise GH¢6.68 billion this week through the issuance of 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day bills to refinance GH¢6.43 billion in maturing obligations.

Annor Walker promises quick victory over Hearts of Oak with tiki-taka

0

Vision FC’s technical director, Annor Walker, has fired a bold warning to Hearts of Oak ahead of their much-anticipated clash in the Ghana Premier League.

The two clubs will face off on Sunday, April 13, 2025, as they aim to secure all three points.

Vision FC are just five points above the relegation zone and have won only once in their last two games.

However, the experienced coach is brimming with confidence, insisting that Vision will waste no time putting the game to bed within the opening 25 minutes.

According to Walker, once Vision secures an early lead, they will switch to a ‘tiki-taka’ style, dominating possession, controlling the tempo, and frustrating their opponents for the remainder of the match.

“We are winning against Hearts of Oak right here on our home turf. If the fans come late, they’ll miss all the beautiful goals we’re going to score. They should come early because, within the first 25 minutes, we’ll settle the game, after that, it’s just tiki-taka football all over the pitch,” he said.

The newly promoted side has amassed 28 points from 25 games and sits 14th on the league table, whereas Hearts of Oak is in 5th place with 40 points.

The game kicks off at 3 p.m. at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex in Tema.

Meet NPP MP sentenced for drug trafficking in the US and later appointed NACOB boss

It is quiet unbelievable in the eyes of Ghanaians to see a Member of Parliament (MP) being sentenced to serve a prison term for trafficking drugs.

But believe it or not it happened to the surprise of many Ghanaians. High Court upholds Annoh-Dompreh’s election

0

The High Court in Koforidua, under the leadership of Justice Addae, has ruled in favour of Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Member of Parliament for the Nsawam/Adoagyiri Constituency, by dismissing a petition challenging his election.

The decision came after an application filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Legal Affairs, Gary Nimako Marfo, was reviewed and upheld.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) had pledged to exhaust all legal avenues to challenge the parliamentary seat held by the MP.

According to the NDC, the declaration of the MP was not in line with electoral laws and was based on incorrect result sheets, prompting their strong opposition.

On Tuesday, February 25, the Koforidua High Court bailiff issued a substituted order requiring Annoh-Dompreh, the Electoral Commission, and the Clerk of Parliament to appear before the court in Koforidua.

This order was in connection with an election petition filed by the NDC, which alleged that the Electoral Commission made an improper declaration in favor of Annoh-Dompreh.

The case, spearheaded by NDC parliamentary candidate Fummey Selorm Philibert and his legal team, contested the legitimacy of Annoh-Dompreh’s election as the MP for Nsawam Adoagyiri.

But the court’s ruling on Thursday April 10 not only dismissed the petition but also imposed a cost of GH₵25,000 on the petitioner.

This outcome solidifies Annoh-Dompreh’s position as the elected representative for the constituency, bringing an end to the legal challenge against his election.

Czech President Petr Pavel opens Czech-built €71.5million hospital at Kpone

0

The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, assisted by Ghana’s Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has inaugurated a new 40-bed district hospital at Kpone in the Greater Accra Region.

The Czech-funded facility is expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery for residents of the Kpone Municipality.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Wednesday, 9 April 2025, brought together several dignitaries including Nii Tetteh Otu II, Paramount Chief of the Kpone Traditional Area; Nii Tetteh Oglie II, Chief of Nmlitsakpo; Tatse Nii Laryea Akuetteh X, Chief of Katamanso; Joseph Akuerteh Tetteh, Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso; as well as officials from the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service, and the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council.

The project was made possible through funding totalling €71.5 million, secured from Erste Group Bank AG and Česká Spořitelna a.s., with an export credit guarantee of €8.6 million provided by EGAP, the Export Guarantee and Insurance Corporation of the Czech Republic. Constructed by VAMED Health Projects CZ s.r.o, the Kpone District Hospital forms part of a broader initiative launched in 2020 by the Ministry of Health to construct 12 new health facilities.

These include hospitals in Jumapo, Nkwatia, Kwabeng, Achiase, and Adukrom in the Eastern Region; Suame, Drobonso, Sabronum, Manso Nkwanta, and Twedie in the Ashanti Region; and Mim in the Ahafo Region.

According to the Ministry of Health, five hospitals in the Eastern Region have already been handed over, while completed facilities in the Ashanti and Ahafo Regions are also expected to be operationalised soon.

The newly commissioned Kpone Municipal Hospital is a modern, well-equipped healthcare facility comprising an Outpatient Department with a Public Health Wing, a Surgical Suite with an operating theatre, recovery ward, and sterilisation unit, a Delivery Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Laboratory, Pharmacy, and X-ray units, 40-bed inpatient wards for male, female, and paediatric cases, a Services Block with laundry, stores, and a cold room, staff offices, and on-site accommodation.

The facility also includes the supply and installation of modern medical equipment, a one-year post-completion maintenance plan, and staff training to enhance service delivery.

President Petr Pavel, in his remarks, expressed joy at the inauguration, describing the hospital as a vital contribution to humanity. “I could not imagine anything more universally good than opening a hospital that would serve people in need,” he said. He urged the staff to “work hard and offer every person the best of care.”

Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, highlighted the project as a continuation of efforts initiated during former President John Mahama’s administration to increase access to quality healthcare.

“The Kpone Municipal Hospital is one of 12 hospitals constructed and equipped under the previous government and a continuation of President Mahama’s first-term initiative of increasing access to quality healthcare,” he stated.

He criticised the politicisation of health infrastructure, saying, “Our vision is to operationalise all commissioned hospitals to allow all communities to enjoy equitable access to quality healthcare.”

The Minister also introduced the government’s Free Primary Healthcare Initiative, aimed at removing financial barriers to care.

“These investments demonstrate our Government’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and advancing Universal Health Coverage,” he said.

Mr Akandoh noted significant progress in health indicators, revealing that maternal mortality had decreased from 580 per 100,000 live births in 2007 to 310 per 100,000 in 2017. Likewise, under-five mortality improved from 111 per 1,000 live births in 2003 to 56 per 1,000 in 2017.

“Yet, we recognise that much remains to be done. This Government remains steadfast in its efforts to expand access, improve quality, and reduce inequities in health service delivery,” he added.

He also called on staff and local leaders to ensure proper maintenance and effective use of the facility.

Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Acting Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, said the facility would help save lives in emergencies and act as a disaster response centre.

He said it would also serve as a source of employment for both skilled and unskilled workers, while stimulating economic activity in surrounding communities.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, described the hospital as a vital addition to the region’s health infrastructure.

“The inauguration of this facility marks a significant milestone not only for the people of Kpone but for the entire region, as it enhances access to quality healthcare delivery,” she said.

There is no bad blood between Piesie Esther and I

0

Gospel musician, Joyce Blessing Gospel musician, Joyce Blessing

Ghanaian gospel musician Joyce Blessing has debunked rumours of an alleged feud between her and Piesie Esther.

In an interview with Onua FM, the “I Swerve” hitmaker addressed allegations by some social media users that the clash in release dates of some of their songs was due to a long-standing feud between them.

It would be recalled that although Piesie Esther debunked such rumours in a 2023 social media post, the speculation has persisted.

However, Joyce Blessing, while addressing the issue, stated that any clash in song releases is purely coincidental and that she has no feud with her colleague.

She emphasised that there is no way one artiste would know the release date of another artiste’s project.

“She herself has addressed the rumours. But you know social media, they take what they want to take. There is no bad blood anywhere.

“Every artiste has planned their release date and maybe by the time they find out that it’s clashing with another artiste, it may be too late to do anything about it. The song may have already been submitted and artworks done,” she explained.

Joyce Blessing also refuted claims that she contacted a TikTok influencer to stir controversy over the ‘release date clash’ of her song ‘Victory’ and Piesie Esther’s ‘Mo’.

“I never contacted anyone. I don’t even have her number,” she insisted.

Daniel Dagba confirmed as MCE for Akatsi South

0

By Agbaxode Emmanuel

Akatsi (VR), April 9, GNA – Mr Daniel Dagba, the longest-serving Akatsi South Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been confirmed by members of the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

Mr Dagba, a teacher by profession, received 32 votes in his favour with 7 no votes and 2 rejected out of the total of 41 votes, comprising 28 elected assembly members and 13 government appointees to secure the two-thirds majority to confirm him as MCE.

In a short address after his swearing-in, Mr Dagba indicated that he was filled with a profound sense of responsibility and an unwavering commitment to redefining public service delivery “which is anchored on dedication, integrity, and utmost diligence.”

He expressed his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in him and to the assembly members for endorsing him.

He further assured the people of Akatsi South of bringing the needed development to the area.

“Akatsi South is a vibrant community, rich in culture, blessed with industrious people, and strategically positioned for growth. I am also aware of the challenges that lie ahead, such as infrastructure development, education, healthcare, agriculture, job creation, and the overall socio-economic well-being of our people.”

Mr Dagba also assured the people of Akatsi South of uniting all those who matter in the development agenda.

The confirmation also saw a total of 13 new government appointees sworn in before voting began.

Earlier, Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, who attended the event, consoled some affected residents whose properties and personal belongings were destroyed in a rainstorm disaster that hit the area recently.

He revealed that his outfit would ensure proper arrangements toward bringing some relief to those affected.

Mr Gunu, however, called for strict adherence to the raising of structures within the area, where he advised the various technocrats at the assembly to ensure all the building rules have been applied.

He also emphasized that all the assembly members needed to confirm the President’s nominees at the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District assemblies to champion the work of government without any delay.

Mr Gunu also explained that the ruling government would work together with the various traditional authorities for a common purpose.

Mr Dagba, in 2013, failed twice to secure the two-thirds majority to guarantee him to secure the position as DCE when he was nominated by the same President.

However, members of the public are optimistic that the time had come for what they called ‘Action and a disciplinarian man’ to lead the affairs of the Municipality.

He is a talented professional from Asafotsi, a community within Akatsi.

He holds a Master of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance from the University of Professional Studies in 2012 after graduating from the University of Ghana with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 2008 as well as having extensive experience in business development and education.

Mr Dagba was also the former Head of the Business Department at Akatsi Senior High Tech School, a position he occupied for thirteen years, whilst holding other leadership roles within the NDC.

He is currently the longest-serving Constituency Secretary for Akatsi South, a position he held since 2010.

Mr Dagba’s skills include excellent communication, analytical abilities, and strong interpersonal relations, complemented by a commitment to national development through professional accounting.

He once served as a Government Appointee at the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly and chaired the Committee of Finance and Administration.

Several dignitaries including past and newly confirmed MDCEs attended the confirmation exercise.

EU To Enhance Water Supply In Northern Region

0

European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Irchad Razaaly, Ali Adolf John and other stakeholders in Tamale

The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Ghana, Irchad Razaaly, has reaffirmed the EU’s dedication to enhancing water supply in the Northern Region through the Sustainable Cities Project.

The North has in recent times been hit with a severe water crisis that has significantly disrupted economic activities, forcing residents to purchase water from tanker contractors while others resort to dam water for survival.

This situation has severely impacted businesses, including restaurants, schools, hospitals, and homes among others.

The current water demand in Tamale is 90,000 m³, while production levels are only between 35,000 m³ and 38,000 m³, with the discrepancy necessitating the implementation of water rationing in Tamale and its environs.

Since 2022, both France and the EU have collaborated on sustainable cities development in the northern part of Ghana.

The partnership started with the first €15 Million Euros Sustainable Cities Project Phase 1, which was launched in September 2024 in Tamale, and is currently being implemented in six cities namely; Tamale, Nalerigu, Wa, Bolgatanga, Damongo, Nalerigu and Yendi.

The project, funded by the EU, is being implemented by the Agence Française de Développement Groupe – Expertise France (AFD Group).

The project is supporting urban planning and management whilst providing key municipal services such as waste management, recreation areas and collective access to water as well as the design and operationalisation of an Urban Observatory (UO) to track the implementation of urban development and management across sectors.

During his visit to the Dalun Water Treatment Plant, Ambassador Razaaly expressed confidence in the EU’s technical expertise and financial resources to support the expansion of the facility to meet the increasing water demand in the area.

“We possess both the technical know-how and financial means to enhance the water situation. Approximately 300 million Euros will be needed to ensure the success of this project, and that is well within the EU’s capabilities,” he stated.

He indicated that the EU is eager to collaborate with stakeholders to guarantee access to clean and safe water for Tamale and its surrounding communities.

The French Ambassador to Ghana, Jules-Armand Aniambossou, noted that they are committed to implement projects which will have a real and sustainable impact on local people’s daily life.

“In Tamale and the Northern Ghana, France wants to implement projects which will have a real and sustainable impact on local people’s daily life. In the current context of climate change, it is crucial to support the improvement of living conditions. These projects are designed in partnership with local authorities and communities, to understand their needs and address them. The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, said the visit by the European Union Delegation (EUD) and French Ambassadors symbolises their joint interest in fostering development in northern Ghana.

“This visit with the EUD and the French Ambassadors further symbolises our joint interest in fostering development in northern part of Ghana. It is an opportunity to further strengthen the collaboration and partnership that exist between the Government of Ghana, European Union Delegation and the French Government. Specifically, this mission has strengthened our cooperation to address the critical development challenges, particularly on sustainable cities and climate resilience in this part of our country,” he added.

Are cocoa farmers really benefiting?

0

File photo of a cocoa farmer File photo of a cocoa farmer

Since its implementation in 2019, the Living Income Differential (LID), a joint initiative between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, was designed to provide cocoa farmers with an additional US$400 per ton of cocoa, aimed at addressing income inequality and improving their livelihoods.

However, the big question remains: How much of an impact has this initiative had on Ghanaian cocoa farmers?

In an interview with the Co-coordinator of the Ghana Civil-Society Cocoa Platform (GCCP), Obed Owusu-Addai raised serious concerns about the true benefits of the LID and the transparency surrounding its payment process.

He said the issue of LID payment has remained largely opaque.

Owusu-Addai emphasised the need for a thorough investigation into how the LID is being utilized and whhether the promised premium is actually reaching farmers.

“It is being charged, and we know that cocoa buyers are still paying the Living Income Differential of 400 US dollars per tonne. Maybe the question we should be asking journalists is, have you attempted to do an investigation on how the 400 US dollars is being utilised? Is it being given to the farmers? If not, why are they not giving it to the farmers? Those are the investigative works that we expect journalists to go behind the scenes to help us unravel,” he told GhanaWeb Business.

According to Owusu-Addai, the platform only hears that cocoa buyers are paying the additional US$400 per ton, but whether this amount is translating into actual income for farmers remains unclear.

“As a platform, we are only hearing that the buyers are paying. But whether or not it is translated into the pockets of farmers or included in the farmgate price, we have no data on it,” he concluded.

As the 2025/2026 cocoa season approaches, the debate over the real benefits of the LID for farmers is likely to intensify, with increasing calls for transparency and more actionable solutions to ensure a better future for Ghana’s cocoa-growing communities.

The NIB officer who led the operation told me his face alone was a warrant — Nitiwul

0

According to a report from GhanaWeb, former Defence Minister and Bimbilla MP, Dominic Nitiwul, has voiced concerns over the actions of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), particularly in relation to how it is dealing with former government officials.

His comments followed an attempted arrest of Assin South MP, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, by a group of about 20 NIB operatives armed with AK-47 rifles.

The incident took place at the MP’s residence but was thwarted after members of the Minority in Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, alongside senior figures from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), intervened.

Reverend Fordjour had earlier alleged that two international flights which landed in Ghana in March 2025 were linked to cocaine trafficking and money laundering.

The current administration under John Mahama has rejected these allegations and called on the MP to assist with ongoing investigations by cooperating with the relevant authorities.

Reacting to the incident, Nitiwul expressed disappointment over how the situation was handled.

He noted that he knows the NIB Director-General personally, having worked closely with him in the past and trusted him with sensitive responsibilities during their time in office.

Nitiwul stated that he had expected a more measured and lawful approach, especially from someone with such experience.

Upon arriving at the scene, Nitiwul recounted asking whether the operatives had a warrant for the arrest.

He said the officers admitted they had none, and the team leader claimed his authority within the NIB was justification enough to carry out the operation.

“The first question I asked when I arrived, and the Minority Leader was present, was whether they had a warrant. They said no. The gentleman who led the operation said he was a senior person in the NIB, and his face alone was a warrant,” he said.

According to Nitiwul, several lawyers present strongly disagreed, emphasizing that no individual, regardless of rank, has the right to detain a sitting MP without proper legal authorization.

Fascinating Outfit Ideas for Easter: Celebrate in Style

0

Easter is a time for renewal, celebration, and spending quality time with family and friends. Whether you’re attending a church service, having a festive brunch, or enjoying an outdoor gathering, your Easter outfit should be both stylish and comfortable. Here are some fascinating outfit ideas to help you shine during this special occasion.

1. Pastel Maxi Dress

Easter is all about fresh, soft hues, and nothing embodies this more than a pastel maxi dress. Opt for a flowing dress in colors like mint green, baby blue, lavender, or soft peach. A floral or lace design adds a touch of elegance.

2. Chic White Jumpsuit

A chic white jumpsuit can be a modern twist on traditional Easter wear. Go for a tailored jumpsuit with a cinched waist or one with wide-legged trousers for a more relaxed look. Pair with nude or metallic heels and minimalistic jewelry for a polished finish.

3. Floral Skirt and Blouse Combo

For a more casual yet refined outfit, a floral skirt paired with a flowy blouse is ideal. Choose a skirt with a subtle floral print in soft pastel shades and pair it with a simple blouse, either tucked in or worn loose.

4. Tailored Suit

For those who prefer something more structured, a tailored suit in a light, neutral shade like beige, soft grey, or pastel pink works beautifully. A fitted blazer paired with wide-leg pants or a pencil skirt offers sophistication while keeping you comfortable.

5. Elegant Midi Dress

Midi dresses are perfect for an Easter celebration where you want to look polished but still be comfortable. Look for dresses with subtle embroidery or lace details for an elegant touch. Midi dresses in pastel shades or floral prints work beautifully for both outdoor and indoor events.

No matter how you choose to spend Easter, your outfit should reflect the joy and renewal that the occasion represents. Whether you prefer a classic look with a pastel dress or a more modern outfit with a tailored suit, Easter is the perfect time to dress in light, beautiful colors and comfortable styles.

‘Suspicious flight’ saga: Call these hawks in gov’t to order – Afenyo Markin to Mahama

0

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and call to order some elements within his government.

His comments follow the botched arrest of the Assin South MP, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, by operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

In an interview on Joy FM’s Middaynews on Thursday, April 10, Mr Afenyo-Markin expressed deep concern over what he described as intimidation tactics being deployed by some government officials against political opponents.

“The government has explained its side of the story. if you disagree with the proposal that there should be a bipartisan committee, if you disagree that there should be a commission of inquiry, so be it. You are a government, but you don’t, through your agents or officials, threaten the Member of Parliament and put him through such trauma. I think that we don’t need it, and I will call on His Excellency President, to call these hawks in the government to order. We don’t need them,” he appealed.

He urged President Mahama to end what he termed a “vicious political cycle” of targeting opponents, stressing that good governance should focus on addressing the needs of the people rather than persecuting political rivals.

He warned that such actions risk reintroducing a culture of fear reminiscent of the PNDC era, where political arrests and suppression were rife.

“Four years may seem far away, but it may be nearer than we think. We must break this vicious cycle as a political class and focus on real issues of governance so that the people will benefit from it,” the Minority Leader emphasised.

Afenyo-Markin further hinted at what he described as clandestine plots against the Chief Justice and other high-profile individuals, suggesting that the Minority is aware of certain schemes and will respond appropriately.

Excessive rent costs need national discussion

0

John Awuni, Chairman of the Food and Beverages Association of Ghana (FABAG), has called for a national dialogue on Ghana’s escalating rent situation, which he described as unreasonable and lacking proper justification.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, April 10, 2025, Awuni expressed concern over the arbitrary nature of rent increases in the country, contrasting it with more structured systems in countries like the United States.

“Rent has to be a national discussion. Because it is increased anyway for no reason. If you rent in the US, the US landlord does not just increase prices like that. In there, you pay your rent monthly, so if you are to pay $200, that is what you will be paying for so many years,” he said.

Awuni criticised local rental practices, where landlords often hike prices significantly at the end of lease agreements without justification.

“In our case, it is different. You get a 2-bedroom for Ghc2,000, depending on the area. Once your rent expires, the landlord just increases it to Ghc3,000. On what basis does the landlord do that? If you say you don’t want it, you are ejected with the claim that somebody else wants to take it. And most especially, you get a lot of Nigerians in the country, and they are ready to take rent at any price, and they see that as an open market for the landlords,” he stated.

He stressed that the unchecked rent hikes are placing a heavy burden on many Ghanaians and urged the government to intervene.

“So, it must be a national conversation. The eyes of the government must come to that,” he added.

New cocoa producer price not out – COCOBOD clarifies

0

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has quashed claims that a new cocoa producer price has been released.

In a press release sighted by GhanaWeb Business, it stated that no crucial decision of such nature has been taken because the Board of Directors for COCOBOD has not yet been instituted.

COCOBOD called on the public to disregard news that the 2025/2026 cocoa producer price has been maintained at GH¢3,100 per 64kg bag.

“The reasons for the disregard are that there is no Board of Directors in place; hence such a crucial decision can never be taken. There should be in place a committee named the Producer Price Review Committee, which is also yet to be formed,” part of the release read.

Currently, the producer price is set at GH¢3,100 per 64kg bag, marking a marginal increase of 0.03% compared to the previous rate announced in September for the 2024/2025 crop season.

The adjustment, which equates to GH¢49,600 per tonne, aims to align cocoa prices with prevailing market conditions and provide much-needed support to Ghanaian cocoa farmers.

Volta Region often overlooked in entertainment and music promotion – Agbeshie laments

0

Ghanaian musician, Agbeshie Ghanaian musician, Agbeshie

Ghanaian musician Agbeshie has said that the Volta Region is often neglected when it comes to entertainment and music promotion in Ghana.

According to the “Wrowroho” hitmaker, most top artistes in Ghana often ignore the region when promoting their music.

Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Agbeshie noted that despite the love for music within the region, it has been largely left out when it comes to major promotional activities by popular artistes.

“Over time, the Volta Region has been somewhat isolated in terms of entertainment. However, the region has developed its own superstars. Whenever I release a song, I always come here to promote it,” he said.

The rapper stated that unlike the “big artistes” who focus solely on Accra and Kumasi, he (Agbeshie), deliberately moves as far as Takoradi to promote his song anytime he has a new project out.

“I’ve noticed that many big artists do not come to the Volta Region for promotion. The last time I checked, I even went to Takoradi to promote my song because I know there are Ewes living there,” he added.

He also emphasised that the lack of direct engagement by the “big artistes” has influenced how the Volta audience interacts with them when they come for a show in the region.

According to him, the sense of exclusion has inspired locals to throw their weight behind homegrown talents who show up and represent the region.

He added that the loyalty within the region is so strong that even when the biggest names in Ghana’s music industry are booked for a show in the region, they may not be well received in the Volta Region unless there is a homegrown artiste on the bill.

“The big artistes often overlook the Volta Region, leading the local audience to feel that if these artistes aren’t coming to them, they will support and grow their own talents. The region has reached a point where, no matter how famous someone is in Accra, when they come to the Volta Region, they may not get the attention they expect.

“Instead, the people await artistes like Agbeshie, who have built a connection with them over time,” he explained.

Greater Accra Minister leads tour of Ramsar sites as demolition exercise begins

0

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, together with security personnel and the Municipal Chief Executive for Weija-Gbawe, are touring Ramsar sites in the capital to monitor a demolition exercise set to start today, Thursday, April 10.

The operation follows President John Mahama’s recent tour of Ramsar reserves and flood-prone areas in Accra, during which he ordered that all buildings on protected lands and waterways would be cleared.

The Greater Accra regional minister is unhappy that no work has started on the first Ramsar site she visited. Although no structure had been put up yet, the site had been filled and leveled with rocks ready for construction.

The company, which was found to have done that, is Kaitec, owned by a Chinese national. They sell car parts and home appliances. They’ve been summoned to the court.

One of the caterpillar operators who was hired to fill some part of the Dansoman Ramsar site was instructed by soldiers to demolish the structures there.

He tried running away upon seeing the security personnel and journalists at the site. The soldiers who saw him quickly pursued him. He was then instructed to pull down the structures.
