The Greens Ghana has secured the EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) certification by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.
This recognition positions The Greens as one of the first fully EDGE-certified residential communities in Ghana and a frontrunner in environmentally conscious real estate development across West Africa.
EDGE is a globally recognized green building standard that quantifies resource efficiency in energy, water, and materials.
A release issued by the company said the certification validates The Greens Ghana’s commitment to sustainable design, construction, and long-term value creation.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Greens Ghana, Kiran Daswani, said the certification marks a major milestone not just for The Greens, but for Ghana’s real estate sector.
“We’re proud to offer future-ready homes that prove sustainability and affordability can coexist—and that responsible building is good business,” he said.
The release said The Greens Ghana incorporates efficiencies including 20 per cent energy savings through passive solar architecture and energy-efficient appliances, 30–40 per cent water savings using low-flow plumbing fixtures and drought-tolerant landscaping and reduced carbon footprint by prioritising locally sourced, low-impact construction materials.
Meeting demand
It said as Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) investing and climate-conscious development become priorities for global and diaspora investors alike, The Greens was meeting the demand for quality housing that is both future-proof and finance-friendly.
It said the certification also aligns with Ghana’s broader climate resilience goals and the global push toward net-zero development practices.
“The project’s next phase, already underway, will continue to follow EDGE standards as The Greens scales its model to meet rising housing demand.
By championing sustainable innovation in residential real estate, The Greens is creating long-term value for homeowners, institutional investors, and the environment,” it said.
Ghanaian musician KiDi has gained massive attention online after accurately predicting Arsenal’s recent 2-1 victory over Real Madrid.
In a video circulating on social media on April 16, 2025, KiDi, a known Arsenal fan, appeared on Sporty FM confidently predicting the final score for the game.
“My prediction on Madrid versus Arsenal at the Santiago Bernabéu is 2-1 for Arsenal,” he stated.
Following the game, another clip showed KiDi celebrating joyfully after his prediction came true.
One would recall that Arsenal had secured a 3-0 victory in the first leg against Real Madrid, but many fans believed Madrid could overturn the deficit, given their rich history in the UEFA Champions League.
Goals from Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli sealed the victory, while Vinicius Junior managed a consolation goal for Madrid.
Wednesday, April 16, 2025, marked exactly 100 days of the John Dramani Mahama–Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang administration.
There certainly has been no dull moment in the first 100 days of the administration with statements and actions of the government becoming the major talking points almost on a daily basis.
In the current administration’s bid to achieve its promises to Ghanaians, the government has taken action that has seemingly divided the public.
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), in its bid to hold the government in check, has also taken actions that have not sat well with a section of the public.
Here are the major talking points in the first 100 days of the John Dramani Mahama government.
Chaos during ministerial vetting:
Though President John Dramani Mahama got the approval of his ministerial and deputy ministerial appointees in record time, the vetting of these appointees was not always a walk in the park for the ruling government.
The vetting often saw clashes between members of the Majority and Minority Caucuses on the Appointments Committee of Parliament with the minority staging series of walkouts due to disagreements between the chair of the committee, Bernard Ahiafor, and the ranking member of the committee, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin.
The clash between the members of the committee resulted in an altercation during vetting on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
The altercation stemmed from the arguments on the vetting of Minister of Health-designate Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Minister of Foreign Affairs-designate Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The Minority Caucus accused the Majority Caucus of violating an agreement to vet only four nominees for the day, therefore resulting in heated exchanges.
Tensions escalated into physical confrontations with the dissenting parties destroying microphones and furniture and turning the tables in the vetting room.
ORAL arrests:
The first 100 days of the Mahama government have seen the arrest of former appointees of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who were implicated in the 280 corruption-related cases in the report of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee.
Some of the Akufo-Addo appointees arrested included:
1. Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi – Former Minister of Education
The former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, was detained by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on Sunday, February 23, 2025, over his alleged involvement in the failed $3 billion Accra Sky Train project.
His arrest took place at Kawukudi near Nima in the Greater Accra Region.
2. Gifty Oware-Mensah – Former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA)
Former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority, Gifty Oware-Mensah, was also detained by the NIB.
Reports indicate that she was taken into custody on Friday, March 7, 2025, detained and released later.
Her detention is linked to an ongoing NIB investigation into payroll fraud during her tenure at the NSA.
3. Kwaku Ohene Gyan (Osonoba) – Former Deputy Director in Charge of Operations at the NSA
Former Deputy Director in Charge of Operations at the National Service Authority (NSA), Kwaku Ohene Gyan, also known as Osonoba, was detained by the NIB on February 22, 2025.
According to a news report, two pickup vehicles reportedly trailed him from town before arresting him and transporting him to the NIB headquarters.
The reason for his arrest remains unclear but it is believed to be linked to the ongoing NSA payroll fraud investigation which uncovered allegations of ghost names fraudulently added to the payroll.
Ohene Gyan was interrogated by NIB officials on February 23, 2025 and later released.
4. Kwabena Adu-Boahene – Former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau
Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), was arrested in connection with an alleged diversion of public funds meant for a cybersecurity defence system.
Addressing the press on Monday, March 24, 2025, Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine stated that Adu-Boahene was implicated in an unauthorised transfer of $7 million, originally allocated for cybersecurity infrastructure, into his private accounts.
Raid of homes of Akufo-Addo appointees:
Another key talking point in the Mahama administration is the raid by security personnel at the homes of appointees of the Akufo-Addo government.
Akufo-Addo appointees whose homes have been raided by security officials over ongoing investigations into corruption cases include:
1. Former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta
2. Former Director of Operations at the Presidency, Lord Kommey
3. Former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison
4. Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Superintendent Yakubu Issahaku.
Cocaine bust and allegations:
There have also been a number of cocaine busts and allegations of cocaine smuggling in the Mahama government in its first 100 days. They include:
1. $350m cocaine bust
The National Intelligence Bureau intercepted substances believed to be cocaine, concealed in sacks and bags hidden under heaps of sand in a tipper truck.
The substance was reported to weigh 3,319.66 kilograms (3.3 tonnes) with an estimated street value of approximately $350 million.
Preliminary field testing conducted by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) confirmed the substance as cocaine.
The tipper truck was arrested at Pedu Junction in Cape Coast in the Central Region en route to Accra.
2. $150m cocaine bust
On March 4, 2025, the National Intelligence Bureau seized approximately 120 slabs of cocaine with an estimated street value of $150 million on the Takoradi–Cape Coast Highway.
The drugs were found concealed and transported in a Hogvan truck, wrapped in green plastic bags.
Following the bust, the driver of the truck was arrested while other accomplices remain at large.
3. Ntim Fordjour’s allegation of cocaine smuggling:
The Assin South MP, who is also the Minority’s Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee in Parliament, claimed at a press conference on April 1, 2025, that two flights—an air ambulance and a private jet—might have been involved in drug trafficking or money laundering.
He alleged that one of the aircraft, AirMED Flight N823AM, landed in Ghana on March 20 and stayed for five days without any record of transporting a patient.
Cancellation of taxes:
Another major talking point of the 100 days of the Mahama government was its achievement of a number of its main campaign promises in the 2025 budget statement.
The achievement which caught the attention of the public the most was the promise to cancel a number of taxes.
The taxes cancelled by the government include:
– Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy)
– Betting tax
– VAT on motor vehicle insurance policy
– Tax on mining of unprocessed gold by small-scale miners
Health of Vice President Prof Opoku-Agyemang:
Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who is currently on a three-week medical leave, underwent medical treatment after falling ill on Friday, March 28, 2025.
After receiving initial care at the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra, the Vice President had to seek further treatment overseas.
Speaking at a community engagement in Lagos, Nigeria, on April 6, 2025, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa reassured Ghanaians that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is recuperating and will soon return to her duties.
He credited her advancement to the prayers and support of Ghanaians.
Ablakwa also dismissed what he described as “vicious and unGhanaian propaganda” while addressing rumors about the vice president’s health and urged the public to focus on her resilience and achievements.

Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey delivered yet another colossal performance against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
After an impressive display in the first leg, he followed it up with a commanding performance in the second, playing a key role in Arsenal’s 2-1 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
The Ghanaian midfielder completed the full 90 minutes and ended the match with 100 percent pass accuracy, making him the most accurate passer on the pitch.
Defensively, Partey recorded three blocks, three clearances, three recoveries, one interception, and won four out of seven ground duels.
Offensively, he completed all 21 of his attempted passes, created one chance, had one shot attempt, made three passes into the final third, and completed his only attempted dribble.
Partey controlled the midfield for Arsenal, dictating the tempo and frustrating the home side with his composure and intelligence on the ball.
Arsenal advanced to the last four of the competition with a 5-1 aggregate scoreline, having won the first leg 3-0. They will face French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.
However, the Gunners will be without Partey for the first leg due to card accumulation.

Govnors in di Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wey be di biggest opposition political party for Nigeria don rule out any option of join bodi wit oda opposition parties in oda to beat di ruling All progressives Congress (APC) by 2027.
Dis na one of di decisions wey di govnors reach for dia meeting for Ibadan, Oyo State on Monday and e dey come for a time wen big members of di party, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, dey make moves to join body wit oda political parties.
“Di PDP no go join any coalition or merger. However, di PDP as a major opposition party go welcome any party, persons or groups wey dey willing to join dem to wrestle power and enthrone good leadership for 2027,” di govnors tok for dia communique afta dat meeting.
Rememba say na four opposition parties bin join bodi in 2013 to form di APC bifor dem fit take power from di PDP for di 2015 general election.
Di parties wey bin join togeda na di Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), di Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), di All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and a faction of di All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Sabi pipo wey follow BBC Pidgin tok say e no go easy for dis kind join bodi of political parties to happen again, especially bicos PDP wey be di main opposition neva put dia house for order first.
“Di party dey face inside katakata now and dem no too strong agai, so e dey difficult for dem to win any elections. And e also dey difficult for pipo to join di PDP as e dey now sake of di internal crisis wey dem dey go thru,” Professor Abubakar Kari of di University of Abuja, tok.
Professor Kari say since di PDP govnors no wan to merge wit oda parties, di best option for dem na to first quench di internal fire for di part, especially di division from some of dia top members wey be like say dem dey in bed di ruling APC.
One of dis pipo na former Rivers State govnor Nyesom Wike who even though e still be PDP member, na also cabinet member as Minister of di Federal Capital Territory, for di President Bola Tinubu APC administration.
Recently, tori bin also go round say President Tinubu don give some Wike loyalists appointments as ambassadors, even wen dem still be PDP members.
Wetin go be Atiku next move?
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar na di main champion of dis join bodi idea and e don dey travel around di kontri to meet wit oda ogbonge politicians dem.
Atiku don meet wit Nasir El-Rufai, di former govnor of Kaduna State wey recently comot from di APC to join di Social Democratic Party (SDP). E also meet wit Peter Obi, di Labour Party presidential candidate for 2023, and former President Muhammadu Buhari who e go visit for im house for Kaduna last week.
For di 2023 election, Atiku wey bin contest on di platform of di PDP and Peter Obi of di Labour party, get a combined vote of more dan 13 million. Di APC wey win di election get just ova 8.7 million votes.
Supporters of di idea for merger say if Obi and Atiku join bodi, dem go easily beat Tinubu and di APC, but sabi pipo tink say di former Presido no dey do am di right way.
“Di position of di PDP govnors don show say Atiku no consult wit stakeholders for im party bifor e go ahead to dey seek merger wit oda parties,” Professor Kamilu Sani Fagge, wey be lecturer of Political Science for Bayero University, Kano, tok.
“If Atiku no sidon wit di relevan stakeholders for di PDP and tok and agree, e go dey difficult for di governors to agree to follow am, and e go mean even more crisis for di party.”
Oga Fagge say, wetin fit happen las las be say Atiku fit comot from di PDP.
“E bin don leave di PDP bifor and join APC. In fact, he follow for di ogbonge PDP members wey leave di party to di join di APC wen dem form am newly, so e fit do di same tin again,” Fagge tok.
Abdulrasheed Shehu Sharada, one of di tok-tok pesin for Atiku tell BBC say di former President go still discuss wit di PDP govnors about im idea of join bodi wit oda parties.
“Atiku Abubakar dey capign for di opposition parties to come togeda to face di APC for di 2027 elections. Di discussions we dey get wit di oda parties now neva reach di point of which party to support, and we no dey plan to dissolve di parties to bicom one, but rather we dey seek dia support bifor di next election,” Sharada tok.

Ghanaian musician, Bosom P-Yung, has strongly responded to social media claims suggesting his career is fading, stating that there is an agenda to bring him down — but it will not succeed.
The “Ataa Adwoa” hitmaker made his stance clear in a post on X on April 15, 2025.
Reacting to a viral tweet that listed him among artistes who had allegedly “fallen off,” Bosom P-Yung dismissed the claim as part of a deliberate attempt to damage his career.
“You just want to push this agenda until it becomes a reality. That’s how y’all operate,” he tweeted.
“I’ve even seen y’all doing the same, even with Black Sherif’s album. The same thing you’re doing to the landlord (Sarkodie) too.”
Bosom P-Yung, born Prince Ofori, made it clear that he remains confident in his journey as an artist. “We are strong and active forever. Just say you don’t like my music – it’s simple,” he added.
Kotokuom (Ash), April 17, GNA – Mr Seth Osei Akoto, Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua has reaffirmed his commitment to infrastructural development in the area.
He said he would work with all key stakeholders to ensure that the people received their fair share of social amenities to help improve their living conditions.
Mr Akoto was speaking to journalists after a working visit to inspect the ongoing reconstruction of the Kotokuom bridge, — a vital infrastructure project linking the communities of Nyinawusu and Kotokuom in the Ashanti Region.
The bridge, which had been in a state of disrepair for many years, serves as a key transportation route for thousands of residents, including farmers, traders, school children, and health seekers, who depend on it for their daily commute and socio-economic activities.
Its reconstruction has come as a major relief to the local population, many of whom have suffered challenges accessing neighboring towns during the rainy season due to the deteriorating state of the bridge.
The MP expressed satisfaction with the quality of work being executed by the contractor and noted that the project was progressing steadily.
According to him, the reconstruction works are expected to be completed within a three-month period, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
“I am pleased with the progress of work and the professionalism shown by the contractor.
This bridge is not just a structure-it is a lifeline for thousands of people in this part of the constituency.
Its completion will significantly improve access to markets, schools, and health facilities,” he stated.
Mr Akoto pointed out that the project formed part of broader efforts by the government to bridge the infrastructure gap in rural areas and enhance the quality of life for underserved communities.
He urged residents to continue supporting the contractor to ensure timely completion of the project.
Nana Kofi Fofie, Chief of Kotokuom, Nana Kofi Fofie, thanked the MP and the government for responding to the long-standing transportation issue of the people.
“For many years, we have cried for help to fix this bridge.
Today, we are witnessing the fruits of persistent advocacy, and we are grateful to our MP for not turning a blind eye to our needs,” the Chief stated.
Several residents who gathered at the project site also commended the MP for his accessibility, responsiveness, and practical approach to leadership.
Some recounted the challenges they faced over the years, including near-fatal accidents and delays in transporting farm produce due to the poor condition of the bridge.
With the project on track and hopes running high, the people of Kotokuom and surrounding communities are optimistic that the completed bridge will usher in a new era of safety, connectivity, and economic opportunity.
The MP’s inspection tour forms part of a broader strategy to ensure quality assurance, transparency, and accountability in the execution of all ongoing development projects in Atwima Mponua.

UK-based Ghanaian musician, Reggie Zippy, has accused his ex-wife, Edith Ward, of turning their children against him.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Reggie Zippy described the emotional pain he continues to endure, alleging that efforts to rebuild a healthy relationship with his children have been met with resistance and sabotage.
“Maybe when I speak Twi or any other Ghanaian language, her amazing mother, step-sister, and aunties will have the courage to tell her to stop turning my children against me,” he wrote, expressing frustration over what he called ongoing “torture.”
The musician accused his ex-wife of engaging in “parental alienation” and “character assassination,” claiming that he has been unfairly portrayed and silenced.
“Feel free to mock and vilify me. At least I spoke the truth of my reality before my last breath,” he wrote, explaining that he could no longer stay quiet about his experience.
Despite the emotional turmoil, Reggie said he remains at peace with his life, though the situation has left him feeling helpless about his relationship with his children.
“I am alright with my own life, but the continual sabotage of my children’s love for me… seems to always blow up in my face,” he added.
Reggie Zippy ended his message by expressing a desire to tell his side of the story before it’s too late, noting that he fears being misrepresented after his death.
Level 300 communication students of the African University College of Communications and Business (AUCB) are gearing up to take centre stage on Saturday, April 26, with a dynamic presentation around branding excellence – a testament to the institution’s deepening focus on creative and entrepreneurial education.
The upcoming event, which would be held at the university’s forecourt in Adabraka, promises to be more than just a typical academic display.
It’s a curated experience, driven entirely by students, aimed at highlighting not only the principles of effective branding but also the practical, real-world applications of their studies in marketing, communication, and business strategy.

He added that, it would also be about telling stories through brands.
According to him, the event will feature interactive branding exhibitions, and team-based showcases where students will explain concepts and ideas behind their brands, the production process of their various products, among others.
Some students will also unveil their personal brands or start-ups, further cementing AUCB’s reputation as a hub for emerging talent in Ghana’s creative and business landscape.
“My students have placed their hearts into this. They will showcase to everyone that, branding is more than just logos – they understand that branding involves identity, strategy, techniques, among other unique ways. My students are ready to prove that, they understand branding at every level” he explained.
Industry professionals, alumni, and the general public have been invited to attend, with the university expecting a strong turnout. Many see this as an opportunity for stakeholders to scout fresh talent and for students to network beyond the walls of academia.

In the Upper East Region of Ghana is a longstanding dispute that has existed between the Kusasi and Mamprusi ethnic groups.
This conflict has been happening for decades at volatile levels for most of the time.
The Bawku conflict, which dates back to the pre-colonial era and gained prominence around 1957, has resulted in significant violence, displacements, and loss of lives.
A complex history
The conflict stems from ancient historical claims, with the Mamprusi asserting their traditional authority over the Kusasi. British colonial rule also played a significant role in shaping these tensions, as some argue that colonial policies deepened divisions between the groups.
Over time, disputes over chieftaincy, land ownership, and political influence have continued to fuel the conflict, making resolution challenging.
The human costs
This conflict has had a devastating impact on local communities. Many lives have been lost, and countless others have been displaced. The violence has also led to the proliferation of arms, worsening the situation and raising concerns about potential links to extremist groups.
The ongoing Bawku conflict has resulted in a troubling number of casualties, raising concerns about the prolonged instability in the region. Reports indicate that the situation continues to escalate, with lives being lost due to the clashes between opposing groups. While efforts have been made to restore peace, the toll of the violence serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for resolution and reconciliation.
The impact of the conflict also extends beyond the loss of lives, affecting communities, businesses, and the overall security of the area.
Efforts towards peacebuilding
Despite the challenges, there have been efforts towards peacebuilding and conflict resolution. Initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue and understanding between the two ethnic groups have been launched, and some have shown promise.
Before leaving office, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed his sorrow over how a once-thriving community like Bawku had been reduced to a state of destruction and mistrust.
According to him, in a bid to find a lasting solution to the conflict, the government in the past years undertook several measures, including the establishment of a special Bawku Taskforce, and the intensification of engagements with the factions for the resolution of the chieftaincy dispute.
Delivering his final State of the Nation address on Tuesday, February 27, 2025, he stated; “The tragedy is not only that a thriving and dynamic town is being reduced to a wasteland of destruction and distrust, we are spending money and energy that would have been better spent on development needs of Bawku, providing security to keep brothers and sisters from killing each other.
“Mr Speaker, what should concern all of us and not just the people of Bawku is that, in its current state, Bawku is an alluring magnet to mischief makers and extremists operating a few kilometres across from the border,” former President Akufo-Addo said.
The sitting Head of State, President John Dramani Mahama, also recently visited the Bawku township to address the ongoing conflict, continuing his efforts to engage with the matter as he has done in the past. As part of his campaign promises, it was essential for him to follow through and fulfil this commitment.
At the Zug-raan Palace at Bawku, after a closed-door meeting with the Bawku Naba, Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, President Mahama told the chiefs, elders, and people of the Kusaug traditional area to exercise restraint and cooperate with all stakeholders for lasting peace and development.
He assured them that after appointing his security heads, he would charge them with making Bawku one of the priorities they must address.
At the Naa Giri Palace at Nalerigu, the president assured Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sherigahim that, as a son of the land, he would go the extra mile to bring lasting peace and facilitate the area’s development.
“I know that my father has not been sleeping because of what is happening at Bawku and what is happening at Walewale, which is giving him sleepless nights. During the campaign, I promised peace would be one of my major priorities, so it’s exactly one week since I was sworn in, and this is my first major assignment outside Accra,” Mahama said.
However, more needs to be done to address the underlying issues driving the conflict.
A call to action
The Bawku conflict is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted approach to resolve it. The government, traditional leaders, and Civil Society Organisations must work together to address the root causes of the conflict and promote peace and stability in the region. Only through sustained efforts can this prolonged conflict be brought to an end.
The latest CoinGecko quarterly report has shown a sharp downturn in cryptocurrency in quarter one of 2025, with total market capitalisation plummeting by 18.6%, resulting in a loss of $633.5 billion.
This significant drop reflects growing investor concerns amid persistent recession fears and global economic uncertainties.
Daily trading volumes also took a substantial hit, decreasing by 27.3% quarter-on-quarter to an average of $146.0 billion.
For context, trading volumes stood at $200.7 billion in Q4 2024.
The decline extends to centralised exchanges as well, which recorded a 16% drop in trading volumes, compared to the previous quarter.
The report cites recession worries, coupled with the aftermath of the Bybit hack, as key contributors to this trend.
Meanwhile, the US Dollar Index (DXY) fell 4.6%, potentially influenced by uncertainty surrounding its tariffs and broader geopolitical factors.

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice was visibly furious with teammate Thomas Partey after the latter received what has been described as an “unnecessary” booking during the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
In a video sighted by GhanaWeb, Rice was seen shouting at Partey and pulling his arm after the Ghanaian was shown a yellow card that will rule him out of the semi-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain.
Partey was booked for dissent after nearly clashing with Antonio Rudiger, who had just fouled Arsenal striker Mikel Merino.
The Ghanaian, who had earlier been involved in a tussle with Rudiger, was unhappy with the foul on Merino and confronted the German defender, who had already been booked for the challenge.
Referee François Letexier immediately showed Partey a yellow card for his reaction. It was his second booking across the two legs, which means he will miss the upcoming semi-final clash.
Despite the disciplinary issue, the former Atletico Madrid midfielder was outstanding for Arsenal on the night, as they secured a 2-1 win over Real Madrid.
The victory means the Gunners advance to the semi-finals with a 5-1 aggregate scoreline, having won the first leg 3-0.

Communications Minister Sam Nartey George has rejected claims that recent suspensions of radio stations were politically motivated.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, April 15, the Ningo Prampram MP insisted that actions taken by the National Communications Authority (NCA) were purely legal and not based on ownership or party affiliations.
The 11-member committee tasked with investigating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general election has officially presented its findings to the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) at a high-level meeting held in Accra yesterday.
The committee, chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, was established to thoroughly examine the factors that led to the party’s electoral loss and recommend reforms to revitalise the NPP ahead of future contests.
The NEC meeting, held at Alisa Hotel in Accra, saw the presence of some of the party’s most prominent figures, including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, 2024 presidential candidate and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, his running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and other key national executives.
The Oquaye Committee, which was granted a three-month mandate, delved into a wide range of issues affecting the party, from internal election processes and grassroots mobilisation to campaign communication strategy and party unity.
The terms of reference included reviewing campaign performance, identifying systemic weaknesses, and proposing actionable steps to prevent a repeat of the party’s 2024 experience.
In the December 2024 elections, the NPP’s candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, polled 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61% of valid votes cast, while opposition candidate and former President John Dramani Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes, or 56.55%, reclaiming the presidency.
Although the content of the report was not immediately disclosed, sources close to the party indicate it contains frank assessments, including feedback from constituency executives, polling station officers, and former government appointees.
The findings are expected to spark a period of reflection and internal reforms within the NPP as it seeks to regroup and rebuild ahead of the 2028 general election.
Calls for Unity, Calm
The General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong confirmed the submission of the much-anticipated report by the Oquaye Committee to the party’s National Executive Council (NEC).
Addressing the media after the NEC meeting, Mr. Kodua stated that while the committee’s work has officially concluded, deliberations on its findings are only just beginning.
“The National Council has received the report, but there are several steps we need to take as a party,” Mr. Kodua emphasised.
“We are yet to go into the full details of the report. In the coming days, we will communicate what needs to be shared with our supporters,” he said, urging party members to remain calm and avoid speculations.
The General Secretary also cautioned against misinformation and internal finger-pointing on social and traditional media.
“There is only one report, and that report is with the National Council. Let’s avoid irresponsible statements, accusations, and counter-accusations. Unity in the party is paramount,” he added.
Nationwide Thanksgiving
The NPP General Secretary announced a nationwide thanksgiving tour of the party executives, beginning next week, as part of efforts to maintain party morale and re-energise its grassroots base.
According to him, the event will be under the theme: “In All Things, We Give Thanks to God.”
Mr. Kodua said the tour would include both Christian and Muslim thanksgiving services, and is intended to express appreciation to party members and supporters across the country, despite the electoral loss.
“Though the results didn’t go in our favour, we remain grateful to God and to our members,” he noted.
Membership Drive
Additionally, he disclosed that the party would embark on a membership drive aimed at reorganising and strengthening its support base across the regions.
Details of the drive, according to Mr. Kodua, will be communicated to regional party executives soon.
Path Forward
The NPP General Secretary stressed that the party leadership has a clear roadmap for reform, healing, and rebuilding.
“We are staying focused. Very soon, the timetable for all major party activities will be rolled out. The leadership knows what it is about,” Mr. Kodua assured.
He concluded with a call for discipline, unity, and support for the party’s collective recovery journey, reiterating that the NPP remains committed to bouncing back stronger in future elections.
The Chief Executive Officer of Coconut Grove Hotels, Ralph Ayitey, has called for strategic interventions to strengthen Ghana’s poultry value chain, warning that the sector is struggling under the pressure of cheap imports and a fragile supply system.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, April 17, 2025, Mr. Ayitey noted that while imported frozen poultry products have become more affordable for consumers, they are seriously undermining local production and threatening jobs within Ghana’s agricultural and manufacturing sectors.
As a person who has been advocating for the consumption of local poultry, he explained that the value chain requires a significant investment in large-scale production facilities to support the industry sustainably.
Mr. Ayitey stressed that Ghana’s over-reliance on imported maize poses a threat not only to poultry but to national food security more broadly.
“Without foreign intervention by way of maize, nobody, right from human beings to animals, can survive without maize being imported in a very very large volume into the country.
“The emphasis here is on the supply chain. If we can take very good care of it, it will create employment for a lot of people. We have the veterinary, processors of the maize, and all others.
“Why will a farmer be going about looking for a market for his or her business, which is not their business? The business of poultry is a very delicate one, the farmer must spend time, paying attention to the birds and making sure that what is coming out is good and healthy. So, somebody needs to help and take off that burden, who will process it and then pass it on to the consumer.

Asamankese (E/R), April 17, GNA – The Cocoa Health and Extension Division of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has mobilised cocoa farmers in the Asamankese district to revitalize efforts toward increasing cocoa production, following a significant decline in national output lately.
According to data on cocoa production in Ghana, the country’s cocoa yield peaked at one million metric tonnes in the 2010/2011 season.
However, this remarkable output dropped to about 650,000 tonnes in 2022/2023, with a further decline to 450,000 tonnes in 2023/2024.
In response, the Division is prioritising farmer engagement by distributing four million hybrid cocoa seedlings, early bearing and disease-resistant, aimed at boosting productivity and reversing the falling trend.
Addressing participants in Asamankese, Dr. Solomon Koomson, the Eastern Regional Manager of the Cocoa Health and Extension Division, said that the seedlings would be allocated to farmers whose farms are properly shaded and assessed by Cocoa Extension Agents.
He noted that proper measurement of farmland was essential for optimising agricultural input use and standardising output levels.
Dr. Koomson also underscored the importance of adopting the best farming practices in response to climate variability.
He encouraged farmers to apply organic fertilizers, practice mulching, and interplant cocoa with plantain and other food crops to provide necessary shade for young cocoa plants.
Additionally, he said potassium-based fertilizer would be distributed to cocoa farmers in the Eastern Region this year, explaining that this would help enhance plant resilience, improve water absorption, and strengthen crops against environmental stressors such as drought.
He urged farmers to adhere strictly to guidance from Cocoa Extension Agents on fertilizer application rather than relying on unauthorized sources.
“Using fertilizer for its intended purpose, complying with recommended agronomic practices, and embracing scientific farming methods are essential to maximizing yields, maintaining cocoa bean quality, and improving incomes,” he stated.
Mr. Michael Sesi, Union Manager of the West Akyem Cooperative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Union Limited, called on farmers to actively participate in sensitization and training programmes to help improve their knowledge in the sector.
He stressed that farming is a business that requires informed, strategic decision-making to thrive.
He also encouraged individual farmers and cooperatives to join the union to benefit from free training initiatives and other incentives to improve farming practices.
The rally brought together key stakeholders, including officials from the Municipal Food and Agriculture Department, to reinforce support for sustainable cocoa farming in the Eastern Region.
Accra, April 17, GNA – Dr Abdel-Fatau Musah, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, has stated that the regional body currently stands at a defining moment in the history of West Africa.
He explained that with ECOWAS being at its cross-roads, it signified that the region was undergoing significant changes and transitions with potential implications for its future.
This was particularly relevant given the ongoing discussions within ECOWAS and the geopolitical shifts in the region, Mr Musah said.
“The hurdles ahead are daunting, but with the commitment of every West African, particularly citizen agency, to re-imagine ‘the ECOWAS by the People, of the People and for the People,’ with a strong sense of solidarity and self-reliance, the Community shall traverse this trying period and emerge as a stronger and more resilient regional organisation,” he added.
Dr Musah made these statements in his keynote address at the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) High-Level Policy Dialogue on the theme: “Understanding Geopolitical and Strategic Changes in West Africa: Emerging Challenges and the Future of West Africa” in Accra.
The event was organised in collaboration with the Social Science Research Council’s African Peacebuilding Network (APN) and the Conflict Research Network (CORN) West Africa.
It was to provide a platform for stakeholders to reflect deeply on the innovative frameworks and mechanisms capable of addressing the emerging challenges in West Africa in the medium to long-term within the context of relevant Articles of the 1993 ECOWAS Revised Treaty and changing geopolitical and strategic context in the region.
Participants at the dialogue, deliberated on the strategies for addressing the concerns of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) countries, and bringing Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger back within the ECOWAS fold.
The meeting specifically sought to address issues such as seeking innovative frameworks and mechanisms capable of addressing the emerging challenges in West Africa in the medium to long-term, within the changing geopolitical and strategic context in the region?
Dr Musah said he was not oblivious of the fact that this High-Level Dialogue had been convened at a historical, cross-roads and consequential moment in the evolution of ECOWAS.
It was to continue the debate between the strand of thought that was already singing the dirges of the Community as a viable project and the school of thought that argues for the Community to learn from its shortcomings and build on its undeniable successes by repositioning its normative and institutional frameworks to better meet the exigencies of our times.
“This is most welcome as we, as policy makers, rely on your deep thinking and research outputs to polish our efforts at promoting regionalism and democratization, sustainable development and peace and security,” he said.
Dr Musah cited some challenges facing ECOWAS such as the issue of terrorism, the breakaway of the AES countries and military interventions in the subregion, saying the regional bloc would continue to make a case for democratic transition, no matter the challenges.
He said: “To achieve this goal, we must begin by asking critical questions at this forum. For example: Are political parties in Member-States fit for purposes as the basic units and incubators of governance? Are short term limits for Presidents and Government conducive to continuity and good economic and social governance in the absence of autonomous and resilient civil bureaucracy and minimum cross-party national vision?”
“How do we ensure the independence of the Judiciary to prevent it from being one of the weakest links in accountable governance?”
Dr Musah announced that ECOWAS would hold a Special Summit on the Future of Regional Integration in West Africa and the Future of Multilateralism, as part of an effort to address the numerous challenges facing the regional body.
Chief Executive Officer of Coconut Grove Hotels, Ralph Ayitey, has called on the hospitality industry and government to prioritise the purchase of locally produced poultry, stating that Ghanaian poultry farmers are ready to meet demand if there is a consistent and reliable market.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Ayitey explained that Coconut Grove Hotels has adopted a policy of sourcing all its food supplies, fixtures, and fittings locally as part of efforts to support the Ghanaian economy.
As part of efforts to boost the local poultry industry, Mr. Ayitey revealed that his hotel sources all its chicken exclusively from local farmers.
He believes that if other hotels adopt a similar model, it would create sustained demand and significantly strengthen the poultry market in Ghana.
He emphasised that while local producers are ready and capable of scaling up production, they require the assurance of consistent demand to justify long-term investment.
“It will mean a lot if the government tells all hotels to consume poultry for a month. Let us take Mr Amin’s Farm in Sunyani for example, he has crossed the 1 million mark, producing 1 million broilers a year. We have consciously tried to encourage other hotels to use locally grown chicken.
“In discussing with them, that is how we came up with those figures, and it is because we have gizzard, wings, thighs, and all other parts from the chicken. If you put them together, it comes up to 7,000 birds a month, and that is just one hotel.
“So, if you put the three to five-star hotels, which are about 35 in Ghana, that is huge. And the producers are ready to produce,” he stated.

Ghana’s Producer Price Inflation (PPI) dropped to 24.4% in March 2025, down from 27.6% in February. This marks a 3.2 percentage point decrease, according to provisional data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). On a month-to-month basis, prices rose slightly by 0.6%.
Among the sectors, Mining and Quarrying recorded the highest inflation rate at 35.4%, though this was a notable drop from 43.7% the previous month.
The Manufacturing sector followed with a rate of 22.8%, up from 20.8% in February.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, Sammy Awuku, has credited Ghana’s 5.7% growth rate to what he describes as the solid foundation laid by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
His assertion follows the 4th review meeting between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Ghanaian government.
In a written piece, Awuku accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of presenting flawed statistics concerning the country’s growth in the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy presentation, as well as President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation address, in a bid to antagonise the NPP administration.
“The aftermath of the 4th review meeting between the IMF and the government of Ghana has put to rest the false allegations by the NDC. The NDC claimed the economy was in tatters. They claimed the IMF programme had been breached, but the numbers are telling a different story and it is not one the NDC wants to hear,” Awuku wrote.
He attributes the Staff Level Agreement reached after the 4th review of the IMF program to the tough strategic decisions made during the Akufo-Addo-led administration.
Awuku highlighted Ghana’s economic resilience, citing the IMF report:
“According to the IMF report, Ghana’s economy grew by 5.7% in 2024, far above the projected 4%. That’s not just recovery, that’s resilience. The mining and construction sectors surged, gold exports boomed, and remittances strengthened our external position. Today, our international reserves sit at a remarkable $8.9 billion, the highest in recent years.”
Awuku emphasised that the facts point to the NPP laying the groundwork for Ghana’s comeback.
“So while others spin tales of crisis and mismanagement, the facts keep pointing back to one truth: the NPP laid the groundwork for Ghana’s comeback and the NPP will surely come back better in 2028,” he added.
The government of Ghana has taken control of the Damang mine operated by Gold Fields Ltd. after rejecting the company’s application to extend its 30-year lease.
This move comes just days before the lease’s expiration on 18th April 2025, as the West African nation seeks to implement stricter mining policies aimed at reducing the influence of foreign companies in its mineral-rich sector.
Gold Fields, a Johannesburg-based multinational, had hoped for an automatic renewal of its lease through its subsidiary Abosso Gold Fields Ltd. However, Ghanaian authorities cited several reasons for the rejection. These included the company’s failure to provide verifiable mineral reserves in its renewal application and the lack of a budgetary allocation for exploration.
This decision reflects a broader shift in Ghana’s mining policy, moving away from the traditional practice of automatically renewing mining leases.
The government’s policy aims to ensure more transparency and accountability in the sector while ensuring that companies meet specific criteria before operating within the country’s borders.
The Ghanaian government has long been vocal about its desire to maintain control over its mineral resources, particularly as the mining sector continues to contribute significantly to the nation’s GDP.
The Damang mine, which has been in operation for over three decades, is a key part of Gold Fields’ global operations and has contributed to the company’s growth.
However, Ghana’s rejection of Gold Fields’ lease renewal could signal a shift in how foreign mining operations are handled in the country.
Authorities have indicated that future mining contracts will be granted based on strict adherence to regulations and a commitment to exploration and resource development.
Gold Fields has not publicly commented on the decision, but the company faces significant implications as it seeks to maintain its foothold in Ghana.
As the government assumes control, it will likely oversee operations at Damang while assessing the mine’s mineral potential and future economic viability.
This move is likely to raise concerns among foreign investors about the stability of mining contracts in Ghana.
However, the government appears committed to ensuring that its natural resources benefit the nation’s economy and meet international standards of environmental and economic sustainability.
As Ghana continues to assert more control over its mining industry, it is expected that other companies operating within the country will closely monitor the situation.
The government’s focus on improving transparency and accountability in the sector could serve as both a challenge and an opportunity for future investments.
Following reports that Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has filed a lawsuit against Ecobank Ghana for allegedly using a look-alike image of him in an advertising campaign without permission, an outburst of debate has erupted across various social media platforms.
As the case unfolds, many are asking how this could potentially affect the creative landscape for advertisers and brands in Ghana.
To provide branding and advertising insights on the discussion, Brand strategist, Kofi Cephas, has shared some insights on the situation in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb.
The risk of creativity being “boxed in”
Brand strategist Kofi Cephas stated that the lawsuit could have a chilling effect on bold and daring creativity within the advertising and marketing industry.
He warned that the legal battle between Sarkodie and Ecobank may cause marketing managers and brand strategists to become overly cautious in trying out daring and bold ideas, which will limit room for innovation.
According to Kofi Cephas, the concern is that marketers and brands may now operate with the fear of potential lawsuits or backlash at the back of their minds as they go about their work.
“The recent incident between Ecobank and Sarkodie is likely to box the creativity of other brands and creatives. When other brands consider taking daring and bold actions, marketing managers may caution their creative teams by referencing the Ecobank situation. This could stifle the creatives’ willingness to explore bold and daring ideas,” he said.
Balancing bold and daring ideas with legal awareness
While Kofi Cephas acknowledges the potential for creative restraint, he also believes that this situation presents an opportunity for growth.
He went on to urge creative minds to remain bold and daring, but also to read extensively and approach advertising campaigns with a more informed mindset.
He suggested that creatives can still push boundaries with their creativity, but with a clearer understanding of legal frameworks and intellectual property rights, during their campaign development.
“Creatives would be more open to new innovations and make an effort to read more. They should also explore bold and daring ways to convey their campaign messages, ensuring that these approaches do not negatively impact the brands they represent,” he stated.
How Ecobank can respond
Cephas also shared thoughts on how Ecobank might handle the situation from a public relations perspective.
He mentioned that rather than Ecobank reacting immediately, he recommends a more strategic approach.
According to the brand strategist, by delaying their response, Ecobank could avoid adding fuel to the current narrative and could possibly redirect public attention to the advertisement again when the buzz around it dies down after a week or two.
“Ecobank should consider waiting a week or two before addressing the issue in a press statement. If they respond immediately, the focus will be on that statement, and the conversation will revolve around it.
“However, if they remain silent for now and release a statement next week or two, the discussion might shift, allowing for a fresh link to the advertisement,” he advised.

Ghana has been ranked third among nine African countries with the most expensive price of bread, according to a report by Business Insider Africa.
Bread is a common staple food that is widely consumed and always in high demand in Africa.
The report, which compiled data from Numbeo, a leading global database of consumer prices said a loaf of fresh white bread, which weighs about 500 grams, costs an average price of $0.79 (GH¢6.00) in Ghana.
In first place however, was Nigeria which was ranked with the most expensive price of bread in Africa with a loaf of fresh white bread (500g) going for an average of $1.12 (GH¢9).
In South Africa, which came in second place, the same loaf of bread (500g) costs an average of $0.98 (GH¢7.45).
The increasing cost of the staple food has been attributed to its high demand and other macroeconomic factors such as supply chain disruptions and foreign exchange constraints.
The recent invasion of Ukraine by Russia, according to global economic institutions, has been predicted to likely result in an imminent food crisis in Africa especially.
This is because most African nations that make bread source their grains which include wheat from Ukraine. Russia, on the other hand, is among the world’s largest wheat exporters.
Also, the ongoing war has resulted in raft sanctions placed on Russia which could potentially impact wheat exports to key countries.

From Saturday, April 2, 2022, prices of bread in some parts of the country increased significantly from an initial GH¢6 for a loaf of bread to around GH¢8.
The increment according to the bakers was due to price hikes in flour, sugar, eggs, margarine, and other key ingredients used for making bread.
Meanwhile, recent figures released by the Ghana Statistical Service showed national inflation for March 2022 hit 19.4 percent – a 3.7 percentage point higher than the 15.7 percent recorded in February 2022.
This huge spike in inflation was largely driven by hikes in food prices, transportation, and housing.

The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Manish Gupta, has disclosed that India and Ghana are in the advanced stages of finalising a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster stronger institutional cooperation, particularly in herbal and alternative medicine.
Addressing the media as part of his working visit to the Volta Region, the High Commissioner said the MoU aimed to expand bilateral engagement in the health sector, with a focus on herbal medicine and traditional healing practices, an area he noted is gaining popularity in both countries.
“We are currently working on an MoU that will formalise collaboration in herbal medicine between institutions in Ghana and India. These alternative modes of treatment are widely respected in both our countries, and we are looking forward to sharing knowledge, expertise, and best practices,” he stated.
He indicated that the partnership would likely involve the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho and its counterpart institutions in India.
The initiative, he added, would help diversify and deepen India-Ghana relations, especially in key sectors like health, agriculture, and education.
Speaking warmly about the region, H.E. Manish Gupta praised the natural beauty, tranquillity, and hospitality of the Volta Region, calling it one of his favourite destinations in Ghana.
“I love nature, and that is one of the reasons I frequently visit the Volta Region. Its pristine landscapes, calm atmosphere, and the warmth of the people make it a truly special place,” he said.
This latest visit offered him the opportunity to meet with the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, where they explored ways to build on existing partnerships and encourage greater investment from Indian businesses in the region.
The High Commissioner highlighted ongoing Indian investments in the region, including rice cultivation, sugarcane farming, and cement production, noting that these reflected India’s commitment to Ghana’s development.
“There is clear potential for more Indian businesses to engage in the Volta Region. The growing interest in sectors like agro-processing, wellness tourism, and healthcare is a signal that more collaboration is possible,” he said.
He also pointed out that wellness tourism could thrive in the region, given its natural resources and alignment with India’s strong background in Ayurveda and holistic health practices
H.E. Gupta reiterated India’s commitment to capacity building in Ghana through the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme, which has benefitted over 4,000 Ghanaians since its inception.

Ghana directs gold fields to cease Damang operations
The government’s decision not to renew the mining lease of Gold Fields’ Damang operation could threaten investor confidence in the country’s mining sector, the Ghana Chamber of Mines has said.
The Chamber warned that the decision may cast doubt on the long-term security of mining investments in Ghana and send negative signals to both domestic and international investors.
“This development has the potential to undermine Ghana’s hard-earned reputation as a leading destination for mining investment in Africa,” the Chamber said in a statement.
Gold Fields, one of the country’s largest gold producers, has been operating the Damang Mine in the Western Region since 1997. The mine is a significant contributor to local employment and Ghana’s gold output.
“The mining sector remains the most significant contributor to Ghana’s economy, providing substantial employment, foreign exchange earnings, and revenue for national development.
In 2024, for instance, gold exports resulted in export revenues of about US$ 11.5 Billion and this represented over 50 percent of Ghana’s total export earnings for that year,” the Chamber noted.
It interpreted that “In effect, it is important that in addition to the direct effects of such decisions, the unintended consequences are also carefully considered to avoid outcomes that could be negative for all stakeholders.”
The Chamber reckoned that while it is the “government’s prerogative in the granting and renewal of mining leases,” it also maintained that a predictable and transparent regulatory environment is crucial for attracting and retaining the investments necessary to sustain and grow this vital sector.
On the back of these developments, the Chamber called on all parties involved to engage in open and transparent discussions to understand the underlying reasons for this decision and to work towards an amicable resolution.
“It is imperative that all concerns are addressed in a manner that upholds due process, respects contractual obligations where applicable, and provides clarity and certainty for mining companies operating in Ghana.
This will ensure a stable and predictable investment climate, which is essential for the continued growth and sustainability of the mining sector and its contribution to Ghana’s socio-economic development.”
The Chamber reiterated its commitment to working closely with the government, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure a conducive environment for responsible and sustainable mining practices that benefit both the country and investors.
There has not been any official statement from the government for rejecting the lease renewal application for Gold Fields Damang Mine.
The decision comes amid growing scrutiny of mining agreements in Ghana, as the country seeks to maximise value from its natural resources while balancing investor interests.
Ghana is currently Africa’s top gold producer and relies heavily on the sector for foreign exchange and employment.
Mineral analysts say inconsistent policy decisions could affect the country’s ability to attract long-term capital in the extractive sector.
Gold Fields Ghana Limited on Sunday announced to its employees at the Damang Mine that it has initiated a phased wind-down of operations, including a gradual reduction in production, in what it described as an “orderly shutdown” of activities.
This follows the government’sdecision on the Damang Mine mining lease.
Abosso Goldfields Limited (AGL) is a Ghanaian registered company that owns and operates the Damang Gold Mine. Gold Fields Ghana Holdings Limited holds a 71.1 percent interest in AGL, IAMGold 18.9 percent and the Ghanaian Government the remaining 10 percent.
Damang oversees five Prospecting Licences and two Mining Leases: the Damang Mining Lease and the Lima South Mining Lease, covering a total area of 8,111 hectares (ha).
The mine exploits oxide and fresh hydrothermal mineralisation in addition to Witwatersrand style palaeoplacer mineralisation. The hydrothermal mineralisation is located in Tarkwaian sediments and is the only deposit of its kind, located on the eastern side of the Ashanti Belt in southwest Ghana.
The Damang Plant processes 5.1 metric tons (Mt) per annum from a blend of approximately 37 percent oxide ore and 63 percent fresh ore, sourced from the open pit mining operations and existing surface stockpiles. Process feed for the year ending 30 June 2009 comprised 5,0 Mt at a yield grade of 1.3 grams per tonne (g/t Au) for 200 thousand ounces (koz).
The Damang concession covers a total area of 27,174 ha. Abosso Goldfields holds a mining lease in respect of the Damang Mine dated 19 April 1995, as amended by an agreement dated 4 April 1996.
The lease which is about to expire, according to the Company’s corporate information on its website, “is renewable under its terms and the provisions of the Minerals and Mining Law, by agreement between Abosso Goldfields and the Government of Ghana.”
The Minority Caucus in Parliament has disclosed that they have received information of the government’s plan to suspend the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Torkonoo.
According to them, this forms part of plans of the ruling National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) plan to remove the Chief Justice from office and replace her with someone who holds allegiance to the party.

In the current business environment of Ghana and the broader African continent, securing the right talent is not merely a human resource function but a strategic necessity.
The individuals we bring into our organisations significantly influence our capacity to innovate, adapt, and thrive. In my experience leading a recruitment agency in Ghana, I have observed that mastering the art of hiring is pivotal for organisational success.
Here are key considerations and best practices tailored to the Ghanaian and African context to ensure effective recruitment.
1. Understanding the Local Talent Landscape
Ghana boasts a youthful and vibrant workforce, presenting opportunities and challenges for employers. While the abundance of young talent is promising, a notable skills gap exists between industry requirements and job seekers’ competencies. This disparity underscores employers’ need to invest in comprehensive training and development programs to bridge this gap and cultivate a workforce equipped for contemporary challenges.
Understanding the Skills Gap
Recent studies have illuminated the extent of this skills mismatch. According to the Ghana Youth Barometer 2024 Report, only 40.3% of youth believe that the education system adequately prepares them for the future. The report emphasizes a notable deficiency in practical skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
Furthermore, research by the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) underscores a significant gap between the knowledge and skills provided by the education system and those demanded by the labor market. This misalignment contributes to high rates of underemployment and unemployment among Ghanaian youth.
To address these challenges, employers can adopt several strategies:
● Collaborative Training Programs: Partnering with educational institutions to design curricula that reflect current industry needs ensures that graduates possess relevant skills upon entering the workforce.
● Internships and Apprenticeships: These programs offer hands-on learning opportunities and allow students and recent graduates to gain practical experience, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.
● Continuous Professional Development: Implementing ongoing training initiatives helps current employees stay updated with evolving industry trends and technologies, fostering a culture of lifelong learning.
● Mentorship Schemes: Establishing mentorship programs connects less experienced employees with seasoned professionals, facilitating knowledge transfer and skill enhancement.
2. Cultural Fit: Aligning Values and Vision
In Ghanaian corporate culture, communal values and respect for hierarchy are emphasised. Ensuring that potential hires resonate with the organization’s core values and cultural nuances is essential. A candidate’s ability to integrate seamlessly into the company’s culture can significantly impact team cohesion and productivity.
The Significance of Cultural Fit
Cultural fit refers to the alignment between an individual’s values, beliefs, and behaviours and those of the organisation. Assessing cultural fit is crucial during the hiring process because it ensures new employees can easily adapt to the organisational culture and work well with the existing team.
To ensure alignment between potential hires and organisational culture, consider the following approaches:
● Clearly Define Organisational Values: Articulate the company’s mission, vision, and values to both current employees and prospective candidates. This clarity helps attract individuals who naturally align with the organization’s ethos.
● Incorporate Behavioral Interview Techniques: Utilize interview questions that explore how candidates have handled situations reflecting the company’s core values, particularly those emphasizing communal collaboration and respect for hierarchy.
● Provide Realistic Job Previews: Offer candidates insights into the company’s working environment, expectations, and cultural norms to help them self-assess their fit within the organization.
3. Leveraging Data-Driven Recruitment Strategies
The advent of technology has revolutionised recruitment processes globally. Adopting data-driven recruitment strategies in Ghana enables organizations to make informed hiring decisions. Utilizing analytics to assess candidate competencies, predict job performance, and identify potential retention risks can enhance the quality of hires.
To effectively adopt these strategies, organizations should:
● Invest in Technology: Implement Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and recruitment software that collect and analyze data throughout the hiring process.
● Define Key Metrics: Establish clear recruitment metrics aligned with organizational goals, such as time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, and quality-of-hire.
● Train HR Personnel: Equip human resources teams with the necessary skills to interpret data analytics and apply insights effectively.
4. Collaborating with Specialized Recruitment Partners
Navigating the complexities of talent acquisition in Ghana can be daunting. Partnering with specialized recruitment agencies offers access to extensive networks and industry insights. These agencies possess the expertise to identify and attract candidates who have both the requisite skills and align with the organization’s culture and long-term objectives.
Advantages of collaborating with specialized recruitment agencies
● Access to a Broad Talent Pool: Specialized agencies like Jobberman maintain extensive databases of qualified professionals across various sectors, enabling organizations to tap into diverse candidates, including those with niche skill sets.
● Industry-Specific Expertise: These agencies have a deep understanding of specific industries, allowing them to effectively match candidates’ competencies with the unique demands of the sector.
● Efficient Recruitment Processes: Leveraging their experience and resources, recruitment agencies streamline the hiring process, reducing time-to-fill and allowing internal teams to focus on core business activities.
● Enhanced Candidate Screening: Through rigorous screening and assessment procedures, agencies ensure that only candidates who meet the organization’s criteria and exhibit cultural fit are presented, thereby improving the quality of hires.
● Cost-Effective Solutions: By minimizing the risks associated with bad hires and reducing turnover rates, specialized recruitment partners contribute to long-term cost savings for organizations.
5. Emphasizing Employer Branding
A strong employer brand is a magnet for top talent in a competitive job market. Organizations should actively showcase their values, culture, and employee value propositions. Engaging in corporate social responsibility initiatives, promoting success stories, and maintaining a positive workplace culture can enhance the organization’s reputation and attract high-caliber candidates.
Here are key strategies to enhance employer branding.
● Showcase Company Culture and Values: Clearly communicate your organization’s mission, values, and culture through various channels, including your website, social media, and job postings. Highlighting what makes your workplace unique helps potential candidates assess their fit within the company.
● Highlight Employee Success Stories: Share testimonials and stories of current employees who have thrived within your organization. This not only humanizes your brand but also provides tangible examples of career growth and satisfaction, appealing to prospective candidates.
● Maintain a Positive Candidate Experience: Ensure that your recruitment process is transparent, respectful, and efficient. A positive candidate experience reflects well on your employer brand and can lead to favorable word-of-mouth recommendations.
Conclusion
Securing the right hire in Ghana requires a multifaceted approach that encompasses understanding the local talent landscape, ensuring cultural fit, leveraging technology, collaborating with recruitment experts, fostering continuous learning, and strengthening employer branding. By integrating these strategies, organisations can build robust teams capable of propelling sustained growth and success in the Ghanaian and African markets.

I’m a 34-year-old man doing well for myself. I’ve always had the desire to get married and build a family, but ever since I turned 18, my father has consistently advised me never to consider marriage.
According to him, marriage won’t make me happy.
Instead, he has encouraged me to have children with women I like and simply take care of them.
My father often shares how marriage ruined his own life.
Although he never divorced my mother, he remains strongly against any man committing to one woman.
Ironically, he and my mother are still together.
They seem happy, he takes care of the home and everything else. But whenever I ask him about it, he tells me that he only stayed and made sacrifices for our sake, not because he’s truly happy.
Over the years, he has shown and told me things that made marriage seem like a loss for him.
Some of his frustrations are clear, frequent arguments, unfulfilled goals, a lack of personal freedom, and certain actions of my mother that he still holds onto.
He often says that if I choose to marry, it will only be to make a woman happy and comfortable, but my own happiness and freedom will suffer.
What’s confusing is that, despite everything he says, I grew up in what looked like a loving, peaceful home. My parents smiled, supported us, and never made us feel like something was missing.
I admire the idea of family because of how I was raised. But my father insists it was all a front, just the version of their life he wanted us to see.
Now, I find myself scared to even talk to him about wanting to get married. I doubt he’d be happy to hear it.
He has made it seem like there’s no real benefit in marriage, apart from having children.
I’m financially stable, I earn well, and I wasn’t raised to move from one woman to another. I’m content with the idea of settling down with just one woman.
Still, my father insists I’ll regret that decision, that choosing one woman will eventually feel like a trap, but by then, it will be too late.
He said if I ever marry, I must never think of divorce and should do everything to make it work, just like he did.
This issue has weighed heavily on my mind, and it’s one of the main reasons I haven’t married or had children yet.
Should I listen to my father and just have kids without getting married?
Or should I trust my own values and find a decent woman to marry and build a life with?

Government is set to expand investment in renewable energy infrastructure for island and lake communities, with plans to electrify 150 additional off-grid locations across the country.
This announcement comes on the back of the commissioning of mini-grid electrification projects in three island communities—Azizakpe, Alorkem, and Aflive—in the Ada East District. Funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the projects bring electricity to these communities for the first time.
Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, speaking at the commissioning ceremony, said the initiative marks a significant step toward improving economic activities and livelihoods in hard-to-reach areas.
He emphasized that the electrification drive aligns with the government’s broader energy policy agenda.
“Very soon, we shall launch a bold program, a new programme that seeks to bring on board over 250,000 people living across 150 island and lake communities allowing them to also have access to electricity.
“This is just the tip of the iceberg. We intend to pursue and ambitious and aggressive programme where our ultimate objective will be to hook on 150 island and lake communities so that they can also get access to electricity,” he said.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition indicated that the initiative will not only expand the reach of renewable energy but also fast-track Ghana’s journey toward energy equity and inclusion.
“This initiative will certainly expand the reach of renewable energy to even more underserved areas, accelerating our efforts towards energy equity and inclusion and achieving our primary objective of hitting 99.8% access to electricity in line with our policy of light for life program,” John Jinapor added.
The newly commissioned mini-grids are expected to boost productivity, support small businesses, and improve living standards in the beneficiary communities.
