Prof Gyampo threatens legal action over alleged defamatory TV comments

Professor Ransford Gyampo, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, has demanded a full retraction and apology from Dr. George Domfeh over comments made on TV3’s The Key Point on November 15, 2025.

South Korea friendly will be a good test for our defenders – Ghana coach Otto Addo – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

0

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has described the upcoming international friendly match against South Korea as a good test for his side.

The Black Stars, after losing 2-0 to Japan last week, will face off with South Korea on Tuesday in their last game in the November international break.

Speaking in his pre-match interview, Otto Addo acknowledged the quality in the South Korea team, especially in the attack, insisting that it will be a good game for his defenders to show what they are made of.

“It’s a good game for our defenders. They will have a strong opponent, and it will be good for us to see how good they are. I know that they can do it,” the Ghana coach said as quoted on ghanafa.org.

Ahead of the friendly, the Black Stars coach is wary of the threat of South Korean legend Son Heung-min.

Otto Addo believes his team can stop the former Tottenham Hotspur star on the matchday.

“He’s good on the ball, he shoots left and right. We have to prevent and stop his shots, which are very, very crucial. He has good runs, we have to make good decisions, especially in our defence, when to attack him, but also when to drop in case there’s space and he can run into the space.

“We’re a little bit lucky that now he’s not 24 or 25 anymore. He’s also getting older, so I think we have a good chance to stop him,” Otto Addo added.

Tuesday’s friendly match between South Korea and Ghana will kick off at 11 am at the World Cup Stadium in Seoul.

‘I can talk to ghosts’ – Diana Hamilton

0

Ghanaian gospel star Diana Hamilton has sparked conversation after revealing in a new interview that she believes she can speak to ghosts.

The award-winning musician made the unexpected statement during a lively appearance on Hitz FM’s morning show with hosts Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Monday November 17.

Hamilton, known for her powerful worship anthems noted that “I’m your classic sanguine… I’m a helpless sanguine.”

Adding, “I can talk to a ghost unless I don’t want to talk to you.” Her comment left both hosts stunned, prompting Doreen Avio to react with a shocked “Wow.”

Hamilton went on to say her dominant sanguine side — which she estimates at “90 percent” — fuels her creativity and makes her naturally talkative and sociable.

“Sanguines talk. We’re the life of the party,” she noted, linking the trait to her once-considered path in journalism. “I could have done it… if I had taken it seriously.”

Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio also highlighted Hamilton’s versatility, pointing to the engaging voiceovers she adds to her social media reels. The singer, amused, replied that she hadn’t listened back to many of them, joking about the similarities between her work and the journalists’ own.

Diana Hamilton’s revelation has sparked curiosity and conversation online, adding an unexpected twist to her public persona. Whether taken literally or as a humorous reflection of her personality, the statement underscores her vibrant, expressive nature — one fans have long seen reflected in her music and media presence.

NPP Primaries: Dr Bawumia storms Central Region to consolidate lead

0

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is taking the next phase of his “Our Journey Together” tour to the Central Region, a crucial area in the 2028 NPP primaries.

Dr Bawumia, who has been relentlessly touring constituencies across the country, completed a tour of the Volta Region over the weekend and has now moved straight to the Central Region, beginning, Monday, November 17, 2025.

He began the Central Regional tour in the Awutu Senya East constituency on Monday morning and is expected to visit Gomoa East, Awutu Senya West and Effutu later in the day. Day one of the tour marks the start of his plan to visit all 23 constituencies in the region.

The Central Region has become an area of interest in the 2028 NPP primaries for Dr Bawumia, as it is the home region of another contender, Kennedy Agyapong, who, until the last Parliament, was the MP for Assin Central.

However, ahead of the election in January, surveys have consistently projected Dr Bawumia as being ahead of Kennedy Agyapong in the Central Region—an advantage the former Vice President is seeking to consolidate through his direct engagement with constituencies.

In one of the latest polls by Global Info Analytics, released at the end of September, Dr Bawumia led in the Central Region with 57%, while Kennedy Agyapong followed with a combined 32%.

With the polls conducted before Dr Bawumia’s recent grassroots engagements, his campaign expects to consolidate his lead through his charisma and direct interactions with party delegates.

Political lecturer at the University of Ghana (UG), Professor Ransford Gyampo, has opened up after his clash on national television with Dr George Domfeh, a senior lecturer at the university.

In a series of posts shared on social media, Professor Gyampo, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA), thanked his well-wishers for reaching out to him after the incident.

He was particularly grateful to those who praised him for showing restraint during the incident.

The Shippers Authority boss asserted that he remains undeterred by the incident and will continue to fight for the progress of the country.

“Thanks to all who have called to appreciate my self-restraint in the face of the little-mind attack. But I would forcefully repeat this: THOSE WHO DESTROYED THE COUNTRY WOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO FRUSTRATE THOSE RESETTING IT, NEVER!” he wrote.

In an earlier post, Professor Gyampo claimed that some persons, whom he described as “little minds,” are sent by “those who destroyed the country” to attack the good works of the current government but will be stopped.

‘Was it a trap?’ – Dr Domfeh slams media house over video of ugly fight with Prof Gyampo

“We know their plan to send little minds to come attack us during such important discussions on TV. But we have the resilience to deal with them.

“We won’t allow those who destroyed the country to frustrate those resetting it, NEVER,” he said.

About the incident:

The two lecturers at the University of Ghana came under heavy criticism after a video of them trading insults went viral on social media.

In the video circulating on November 15, 2025, a lecturer at the Political Science Department and CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, is seen in a heated altercation with Dr George Domfeh, also a senior lecturer at UG.

In the less-than-one-minute footage, the two lecturers, who appeared on TV3’s The Key Points show, were seen exchanging insults after their discussion turned personal.

Dr Domfeh, while making his submission, was heard alleging that Prof Gyampo is politically biased, accusing him of being self-centred during his tenure as UG-UTAG president.

“Nobody is more political than Prof Gyampo. Everything about you is political. When you were UTAG president, look at what you did… Shame on you,” he said.

Prof Gyampo, who appeared visibly upset, fired back and accused Dr Domfeh of being unfit as an academic.

“I am political about what?… You are not an academic. Shame on you. What you are doing is shameful,” Gyampo retorted.

Another video circulating on Facebook shows the two lecturers in a near-fistfight, with Dr Domfeh heard making further allegations against Prof Gyampo, including claims about inappropriate conduct with students. These allegations remain unverified and were made during the altercation.

“You are a fool. You are a professor who sleeps with children,” Domfeh alleged.

Over 1,600 Ghanaians were duped by fraudulent visa agents in 2024 – British High Commission

0

The situation has resulted in severe long-term consequences, including 10-year visa bans The situation has resulted in severe long-term consequences, including 10-year visa bans

More than 1,600 Ghanaians were duped by fraudulent agents when applying for UK visit visas in 2024, resulting in severe long-term consequences, including 10-year visa bans.

While this accounts for only 4% of applicants, officials warn that even a single case of visa fraud can cause significant financial and emotional harm.

In response, the High Commissions of Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom in Ghana have announced a one-week public awareness campaign to educate applicants and prevent further cases.

“In 2024, 1,632 applicants from Ghana used fraudulent means when applying for UK visit visas. While that represents only 4% of all Ghanaian applicants, it is still far too many people misled by agents into taking an action that resulted in a 10-year visa ban. Fraud is never worth the risk,” Dr Christian Rogg, British High Commissioner said.

Australia, Canada, UK join forces amid rising visa fraud cases in Ghana

The campaign coincides with International Fraud Awareness Week (16–22 November 2025) and is part of a global effort supported by partner countries, including New Zealand.

“Visa fraud continues to affect many Ghanaians, with fraudulent agents and misinformation leading to financial loss, emotional distress, and long-term travel restrictions. This initiative is part of a wider global effort led by UK Visas & Immigration,” the joint statement issued on Monday, November 17, 2025, said.

Berenice Owen-Jones, Australian High Commissioner, added, “Australia is proud to stand with our international partners to combat visa fraud. The Fighting Visa Fraud campaign sends a clear message — always use trusted, official sources and beware of anyone promising shortcuts or guaranteed results.”

Meanwhile, the High Commissions urged all Ghanaians applying for visas to Australia, Canada, or the UK to use only official government channels.

Family and friends rule threatens NPP’s future, says former Minister Prof Frimpong-Boateng

0

Former Environment Minister Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng has warned over what he calls the “family and friends rule” threatening the future of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In an article titled ‘Let’s save NPP’, he said the party’s leadership is ignoring the mood of its members and the danger looming over its future.

“I am amazed how members of the NPP National Executive and some regional chairpersons are going about their daily routine as if they do not know the state of the party, the mood of the majority of party members and the potential danger awaiting the party in the near future,” he said.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng criticised the party for failing to learn from its “disgraceful” defeat in the last general election.

Instead of analysing the loss, he said, the National Executive, hiding behind a “spineless” National Executive Council (NEC), has concealed reports and abandoned the tradition of electing a flag-bearer two years before the election.

He called the top-down approach a “beginning of rigging and corruption of the electoral process.”

“The incompetent national executive members and their puppet masters that led the party to the abominable and disgraceful defeat are orchestrating these schemes just because they want their preferred candidate to be elected again, whether by fair or foul means,” he said.

He warned that the party risks low voter turnout among disillusioned members, as was witnessed in December 2024.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng specifically named Dr Bawumia, the current favourite for the January 2026 flag-bearer race, saying the last internal election that elected him was manipulated.

“Weak delegates had their arms twisted, corrupt ones were allegedly bribed, and the cowardly were intimidated to vote for Dr Bawumia,” he said.

He added that this led to widespread apathy and contributed to the party’s electoral defeat.

He warned that the same “family and friends government” mentality is at play again.

“Those who conceptualised and are rolling out the top-down election process will stop at nothing to rig the elections for Dr Bawumia,” he said.

He criticised the Chairman of the Council of Elders for ignoring wise counsel from senior party members like Kwame Pianim, Kwadwo Mpiani, and Dr Agyei Bawuah.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng accused the former President and his allies of controlling the party remotely through the Chairman and creating a biased environment.

“Allowing the January 2026 flag-bearer election to be managed by an incompetent National Executive, and supervised by a toothless NEC remotely controlled by a past President and his family members, removes any level playing field,” he said.

He also highlighted the legacy of the previous NPP government, describing it as a variation of “family and friends’ government” that “controlled the press not through violence but through bribery and intimidation” and failed to curb corruption, environmental degradation, and economic mismanagement.

The former minister called on the party to reject divisive tactics and ensure fairness in the upcoming election.

“If Dr Bawumia cannot read between the lines because of power, fame, and wealth, then I want him to think carefully about his future and reputation,” he said.

He urged delegates to consider whether they want a party controlled by the same individuals who “neglected the grassroots, ruined the economy, and adopted a lukewarm attitude towards the environment” to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng concluded that the party must return to a time-tested bottom-up approach and avoid falling for schemes designed to consolidate power within a select circle.

“Do we want an all-inclusive NPP or one that is controlled by people, including an arrogant but otherwise empty ‘Prime Minister,’ a declared fugitive, and their other ‘Nouveau Riche’ family members and friends to continue to control the Party post January 2026? Niemals!”

Ensure justice is not tilted toward the powerful

0

President John Dramani Mahama has urged the newly sworn-in Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, to ensure that the country’s justice system remains fair, balanced, and accessible to all, regardless of wealth or influence.

Addressing the Chief Justice on Monday, November 17, President Mahama expressed confidence in Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s leadership and called for a judiciary that protects human rights and civil liberties without favour.

“I trust that under your stewardship, the Judiciary will [ensure] the protection of human rights and civil liberties and that the Judiciary will ensure that justice is not tilted in favour of the wealthy or powerful,” he said.

President Mahama further urged the Chief Justice to strengthen specialised courts and divisions to deal effectively with issues such as family welfare, land disputes, commercial disputes, environmental protection, and corruption.

He also encouraged the promotion of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to complement the formal court system, especially in community and family-related matters.

“Justice must not be an abstract principle confined to law books. It must be seen, felt, and experienced in the daily life of our people,” he stressed.

The  President also called for the strengthening of the Judicial Training Institute as a centre of excellence for continuing legal education to ensure that members of the judiciary remain well-equipped to deliver justice efficiently and impartially.

Muntaka orders probe into video of Immigration officials dragging deportee on the floor

0

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has ordered an immediate investigation into a disturbing viral video that appears to show Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) personnel in uniform aggressively dragging a sick United States deportee on the floor from a hotel at Ogbojo, Accra.

The incident, which caused widespread social media outrage, allegedly occurred despite indications that the individual was unwell and on medication.

A dramatic and tense situation unfolded at the VICSEM Hotel on November 11, 2025, as GIS officials attempted to forcibly remove a group of deportees recently repatriated from the United States.

Immigration officials were spotted in viral videos dragging a woman on the floor into a waiting vehicle.

The intention of their action is not clear but the attempted removal suggests officials were trying to move the individuals from the hotel facility where they were initially accommodated upon arrival. The development attracted a sharp condemnation from human rights lawyer Oliver Barker-Vormawor.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, November 17, Alhaji Muntaka addressed the controversy directly, expressing deep regret and assuring the public of swift action to ascertain the facts and enforce professional conduct standards within the security services.

Immediate Investigation and Medical Context

Alhaji Muntaka confirmed that he has taken immediate steps to hold the GIS accountable and understand the circumstances leading to the use of force captured in the video.

“Well, let me say that it’s just so unfortunate, and I’ve instructed the Comptroller General of Immigration to investigate that and get me a report on it, which I’m sure I should get this week.”

He suggested a potential medical reason for the deportee’s erratic behaviour, noting that the individual was likely undergoing a critical episode during the encounter.

“This lady was supposed to be on medication, and I think she didn’t take her medication. So, I don’t know if she became violent and that resulted in that. But I will not want to pre-empt the report that they will render to me.”

Assurance of Dignity and Respect for West African Citizens

The minister strongly denied any implication that the government or its agencies are intentionally involved in the molestation or ill-treatment of individuals repatriated from the diaspora.

He emphasised Ghana’s commitment to treating its foreign neighbours and deportees with dignity, particularly those from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

“I can assure you that we believe that we are brothers and sisters. Our brothers and sisters from the West African countries will be treated with the utmost respect. We will do everything humanely possible to treat them well just as we treat our own citizens.”

Alhaji Muntaka asserted that the state does not sanction the mistreatment of US deportees:

“There’s no any connivance or government involvement in trying to molest anybody that was brought in from the United States of America.”

Protocol for Deportees and Embassy Coordination

Alhaji Muntaka detailed the standard operational protocol for handling individuals deported to Ghana, noting that the process is coordinated closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the relevant diplomatic missions in Accra.

The goal is to facilitate safe and voluntary onward travel or residency, provided there is no criminal background.

“We will continue to give them the best of services that we can and be able to encourage them to have their options. If you want to stay, then let the embassy pick you up. If you want to go back to your country, we’ll facilitate your movement. And we’ll do this with the involvement of their embassy because we call the embassies in. Sometimes they give us a travel certificate and then we’ll move them to their country.”

He reiterated that the core principle is respectful treatment and due process for all foreign nationals brought into the country:

“We continue to work with the foreign ministry and their various missions in Accra to make sure that every citizen of the West African that is brought into our country is treated with respect. And like I said, while that person doesn’t have any criminal background and the person wants to stay, we’ll encourage the embassy to come forward and pick them so that they can stay with them. As far as I’m concerned, almost everybody is gone.”

The findings of the GIS investigation into the Ogbojo incident are now keenly awaited, with the report expected by the end of the week.

Accra, Nov.17, GNA – The Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice will, in 2026, defend about 400 civil suits as well as review 100 agreements and contracts.

It would also prosecute at least 1,700 criminal cases from an estimated 1,900 dockets expected from investigative bodies, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance, said when he presented the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament.

He said the Ministry monitored the implementation of its 2024 Annual

judgment debts.

It said 15 agreements and contracts, eight Memoranda of Understanding and 12 legal

opinions were reviewed for MDAs and MMDAs, whilst 178 civil petitions and 183 legal requests were addressed.

“Mr Speaker, of the 810 petitions on criminal cases received, 630 were resolved, restoring public confidence in justice delivery,” the Finance Minister said.

On the international front, five Mutual Legal Assistance requests were handled, with four concluded, enhancing Ghana’s cooperation in fighting organised crime, money laundering, and terrorism.

The Ministry received 2,001 prosecution dockets from investigative bodies and initiated 1,520 prosecutions nationwide, holding offenders accountable and strengthening public trust in the rule of law.

It said 64 appeals were managed and 1,900 motions disposed of out of 2,205 received, helping to reduce case backlogs.

“Mr Speaker, legal advice was provided on 150 criminal cases, improving investigative standards and avoiding wrongful prosecutions. Forty-six plea agreements were completed to fast-track trials and promote efficiency,” the finance minister said.

The Ministry also advanced legislative reforms, facilitating the drafting of 257 legal instruments, including 25 substantive Acts, seven Legislative Instruments and 225 Executive Instruments.

Court adjourns Daddy Lumba widowhood dispute case to Nov 18

0

The High Court in Kumasi has adjourned to Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the case involving the funeral arrangements and the dispute over who should be recognised as the legal wife to perform the widowhood rites of the late Ghanaian highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.

On Monday, November 17, the court began the cross-examination of the plaintiff, Akosua Serwaa’s lawful Attorney, Georgina Osei, based on her witness statement. During the interrogation, defence counsel suggested to the witness that a head drink had been returned by Akosua Serwaa to Daddy Lumba, signifying a dissolution of their marriage, but the witness denied this.

The witness was subsequently confronted with a video of Daddy Lumba allegedly confirming who performed in-law rites during his mother’s funeral. She insisted that the video had been edited. When further pressed that the plaintiff’s refusal to perform the in-law rites (nsiyie) was the cause of their separation, the witness again referenced the video and maintained that it had been tampered with.

She also disputed claims that the deceased failed to attend the funeral of the plaintiff’s mother on January 4, 2018.

Responding to a question on whether the family of a deceased person bears responsibility for burial and final funeral rites, the witness answered in the affirmative.

The marriage certificate of the plaintiff and the deceased also surfaced during proceedings, with defence lawyers describing the document as fictitious. They argued that the plaintiff’s name at birth, as indicated on the certificate, Akosua Serwaa Schindler, contradicted the witness’s statement that her name at birth is simply Akosua Serwaa.

Cross-examination is expected to continue on Tuesday, November 18. Meanwhile, the defence counsel has expressed satisfaction with proceedings so far, noting that the final decision rests with the judge. He added that their primary interest is ensuring peace for the funeral to be held smoothly.

“The judge has promised to give us the final judgment on the 25th of November. The case is progressing as we expected, but the final decision rests with the judge. Besides, the plaintiff has yet to present their case, so at this point, we cannot determine our fate.

“That determination solely depends on the judge, and we respect that. We are here not just for victory or defeat; we are here to ensure that justice prevails and that peace is maintained,” Defense counsel ,” Dominic Kwadwo Osei said.

Daddy Lumba passed away on July 26, 2025, and since then, a dispute has arisen over who is legally entitled to perform the widowhood rites: Akosua Serwaa, who claims to be the lawful wife, or Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni.

Bagbin launches scholarship scheme to empower MPs

0

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has launched a scholarship scheme aimed at equipping Members of Parliament (MPs) and Parliamentary Service staff with advanced academic training to enhance their leadership and governance skills.

The initiative, which is a partnership with Noble University, (NiBS) would provide scholarships for doctoral programmes in leadership, governance, and innovation.

In his keynote address at the launch in Parliament House on Monday, the Speaker emphasised the importance of knowledge and education in leadership, stating that “empowered governance is not achieved through power alone, it is achieved through knowledge, reflection, and moral courage.”

It was on the theme: “Empowering Governance Through Advanced Scholarship,” with the being part of the Speaker’s vision to position Parliament as a leading institution for leadership and government education in Africa.

The Speaker said the success of Ghana’s democracy depended on the quality of minds that sustained it, adding that “If we are to build a parliament that will reflect the aspirations of our people, then we must invest in the intellectual and professional growth of those who serve.”

Mr Bagbin acknowledged that continuous capacity building and training were essential for the MPs to stay updated on key issues and best practices, saying the beneficiaries would be equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and support to effectively represent their constituents and make informed decisions that would benefit the nation.

“Investment in knowledge and research is key to shaping policies that benefit citizens, and advanced scholarships can empower governance, leading to strong institutions, ethical leadership, and inclusive policies. It’s a step towards a brighter future for all Ghanaians,” he said.

The Speaker’s initiative was expected to have a ripple effect on the country’s governance, as beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme were envisioned to apply their newfound knowledge and skills to drive transformation and improve the lives of Ghanaians.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, NiBS University launched a $108,000 scholarship programme in the name of the Speaker of Parliament, to support the capacity development of MPs and Parliamentary Service Staff.

Professor Kwaku Atuahene-Gima, the Founder and President, NiBS University, said the scholarship, aimed at enhancing the skills of 20 beneficiaries for essential and effective parliamentary work to uphold democracy and self-development.

“However, applicants must have their forms endorsed by the speaker,” he advised.

The key aspects of the scholarship included capacity building to enhance skills and knowledge of MPs and Parliamentary Service Staff; a partnership collaboration between Parliament and the University to promote knowledge sharing and capacity development; and peer review to promote peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing among MPs and staff.

On Thursday, June 26, Mr Bagbin announced the institution of the Speaker’s Scholarship for MPs and Parliamentary Service Staff by NiBS University to MPs.

He said this scholarship was a testament to the university’s commitment to promoting academic advancement and capacity building among lawmakers and Parliamentary Service Staff, stressing that university education was the cornerstone of national development.

Speaker Bagbin, in his formal address to the MPs during proceedings, explained that the scholarship covered various graduate programmes, including a PhD in Business Administration, a Doctor of Business Leadership, and a Doctor of Public Sector Innovation and Leadership, with attractive monetary values ranging from $1,399 to $7,599.

“It is expected that these scholarships from NiBS University will promote lifelong learning among Members of Parliament and Staff of the Parliamentary Service, strengthen policy research and legislative analysis, and bridge the gap between academia and governance,” he stated.

The Speaker expressed gratitude to Prof. Atuahene-Gima and the entire University community for the generous offer and encouraged the MPs and staff to take full advantage of the scholarship, to enhance their leadership skills, and propel Parliament to meet the expectations of the Ghanaian people.

The scholarship scheme has been greatly welcomed by parliamentarians and staff, who see it as an opportunity to enhance their skills and contribute to national development.

They commended the Speaker and NiBS for their commitment to quality education that would promote knowledge sharing and informed decision-making.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has rescued seven Nigerian nationals believed to have been trafficked into Ghana to engage in illegal cyber activities.

The operation, conducted on Friday, November 14, 2025, was part of EOCO’s ongoing Operation LIFELINE.

During the raid, 10 individuals were taken into custody, including three suspects and seven victims, all of whom are Nigerian nationals.

SWAGAwards@50: Vice President hails Sports Writers for chronicling Ghana’s sports history, holding high standards

0

By Simon Asare, GNA

Accra, Nov. 17, GNA – Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has praised the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) for chronicling five decades of Ghana’s sporting history, highlighting moments of triumph that have shaped the nation’s sporting identity.

Speaking at the Golden Jubilee edition of the SWAG Awards in Accra, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the anniversary was an opportunity to reflect on past achievements and chart a purposeful future for sports in the country.

“Ghana is a place of talent, and that talent must be supported with investment,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang told the gathering.

She noted that many athletes have risen from modest backgrounds to achieve international success, underscoring the need for structured support systems.

The Vice President announced plans to establish a dedicated school sports authority to oversee athletics programmes from basic schools to universities. She said the body would organise regular inter-school and inter-university competitions, drive talent identification, and create pathways for young athletes.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasised that victory on the track and field begins with preparation, including infrastructure, policy, and funding.

She cited ongoing efforts under President John Mahama’s leadership to rebuild grassroots systems through community sports programmes, academies, and talent identification structures.

“Investment means continuing our inter-school competitions, community sports programmes, academies, and talent identification structures,” she said, adding that Ghana’s sports ecosystem must be held to high standards to sustain progress.

Mr Kwabena Yeboah, the President of SWAG, described the milestone as a solemn occasion to reflect on the association’s journey and pay tribute to its founding members and departed patrons.

“Tonight we pay homage to our founding fathers and those whose counsel kept SWAG together for all these years,” he said, naming pioneers such as Ackah Anthony and Ebo Quansah, who passed away this year.

Mr Yeboah lamented the financial strain of organising the annual SWAG Awards and appealed for state support to sustain the event, which honours Ghana’s top athletes.

He congratulated the Black Queens and the Black Stars, as well as other national teams, for their respective successes and expressed hope they will thrive in future tournaments.

Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, urged sports journalists to prioritise accuracy and fairness in their reporting.

“Journalism must remain a tool for development. SWAG must lead this charge, championing accuracy, balance and depth over noise. When we get it wrong, we do not only hurt reputations, we erode trust, kill sponsorships, and send back years of effort,” Adams said.

“This is a call for fairness – fairness in reporting that is evidence-based and reflective of the true state of Ghana’s sport,” he added.

Mr Gianni Merlo, President of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), commended SWAG for its impact on the sports ecosystem and praised young Ghanaian journalists who have excelled in the AIPS Sports Awards.

He also urged the association to support upcoming sports journalists, describing them as the future of the profession.

The 50th SWAG Awards witnessed over 50 athletes, sports administrators and other stakeholders honoured for their contribution to the growth of Ghanaian sports.

Abusuapanin justifies GH¢30,000 withdrawal from bank account

Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu (L) is the family head of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu (L) is the family head of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba

Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, the family head of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, has responded to allegations that he secretly withdrew GH¢30,000 from the funeral account.

Speaking on United Showbiz on November 15, 2025, he firmly denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the money was used strictly for funeral-related expenses and not for personal gain.

According to him, the financial burden of the ongoing funeral preparations has been heavy, especially as the family awaits contributions from the government and other supporters.

“When the money was sent, no one took a penny from it. I’ve been praying that we will get enough money for the funeral. Even though the president might help but since he has not brought his contributions yet, you have to put in your money, that’s if you have,” he said.

He emphasised that his actions were guided by responsibility and transparency, adding that elders of the family were fully aware of every transaction.

“I told the elders that we should take part of the money and give the women as their feeding money because the whole thing is delaying. We shared the money among both women equally,” he explained.

Heavy media presence prevented people from donating at Lumba’s one-week – Family head

Addressing comments made by Prophet Kumchacha, who earlier accused him of taking the GH¢30,000 for personal use, Abusuapanin Owusu expressed disappointment and urged him to be cautious with his public statements.

“Kumchacha should watch his tongue when speaking. Why would he say I’ve taken GH¢30,000 as if I’m going to spend it? If he doesn’t understand something, he should ask questions instead of mentioning my name all the time and I don’t like it. Managing things is not easy and I’m sure he knows it because he claims to be a pastor,” he stated.

Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu further stated that he has worked for 23 years and owns enough property to sustain himself, adding that accusations of stealing funeral funds are completely unnecessary.

“I’ve worked for good 23 years, by God’s grace, I also have enough properties which can sustain my family. I am an Abusuapanin. I am holding the title because I am not a thief and I’m responsible,” he shared.

He admitted that the funeral preparations have drained him emotionally and financially, but expressed relief that the Asantehene has now stepped in to help streamline the process.

“This funeral has drained me and I’m getting fed up. It’s better that Nana has also intervened and I’m happy he’s now a part of this,” he added.

Australia, Canada, UK launch joint campaign to combat visa fraud in Ghana Australia, Canada, UK launch joint campaign to combat visa fraud in Ghana

More than 1,600 Ghanaians were misled by fraudulent agents when applying for UK visas in 2024, leading to long-term consequences, including 10-year bans.

Although this represents only 4 percent of applicants, officials warn that even a single case of fraud can cause serious financial and emotional harm.

Ghana slashes visa processing time to five days to attract tourist and investors

This was contained in a statement issued by the High Commissions of Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom in Ghana, announcing a one-week public awareness campaign aimed at protecting applicants from visa fraud.

“In 2024, 1,632 applicants from Ghana used fraudulent means when applying for UK visit visas. While that represents only 4% of all Ghanaian applicants, it is still far too many people misled by agents into taking an action that resulted in a 10-year visa ban. Fraud is never worth the risk,” Dr Christian Rogg, British High Commissioner noted.

The campaign coincides with International Fraud Awareness Week, running from 16 to 22 November 2025, and forms part of a wider global effort supported by partner countries including New Zealand.

US reverses visa restrictions on Ghana; five-year multiple entry visas restored

“Visa fraud continues to affect many Ghanaians, with fraudulent agents and misinformation leading to financial loss, emotional distress, and long-term travel restrictions. This initiative is part of a wider global effort led by UK Visas & Immigration, and supported by partner countries including Australia, Canada, and New Zealand,” the statement said.

Berenice Owen-Jones, Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, also noted, “Australia is proud to stand with our international partners to combat visa fraud. The Fighting Visa Fraud campaign sends a clear message — always use trusted, official sources and beware of anyone promising shortcuts or guaranteed results.”

The three High Commissions urged Ghanaians seeking to travel to Australia, Canada, or the UK to use only official government channels for visa applications.

Property tax enforcement weak due to politics – Prof Priscilla Twumasi

0

Associate Professor at the Economics Department of the University of Ghana, Priscilla Twumasi, has called for greater emphasis on property taxation as the country expands social interventions and economic reforms.

Speaking at the KPMG 2026 Post-Budget Forum on Monday in Accra, held under the theme “Resetting for Growth, Jobs and Economic Transformation,” Prof. Twumasi noted that while the 2026 budget prioritises economic growth, job creation, and transformative infrastructure, it offers limited guidance on property taxes, an area she has consistently advocated for.

“I didn’t see much on property taxation. That is something that I really consistently mentioned and advocated for. I am not too sure that it is because the political class is the ones who own these properties, and so the willingness to collect that is not there,” she said.

Prof. Twumasi explained that property taxation is a critical tool for diversifying revenue streams and ensuring a more progressive tax system.

“I think that it is a fact that we need to do more on property taxation as income levels increase. I am expecting that as the tax revenues and the VAT rate in the future come down, the burden will be less on the poor rather than the rich,” she noted.

She also highlighted a broader challenge facing Ghana’s fiscal system: while social programmes are expanding, tax collection remains insufficient to sustain them.

“I must also indicate that overall, we are increasingly going all out on social interventions, yet we are not collecting enough taxes. Countries that are heavy on social interventions are very heavy on taxation, particularly when it comes to VAT,” Prof. Twumasi added.

She argued that reforms in property taxation could relieve pressure on consumption taxes and help ensure that high-income property owners contribute fairly to the national coffers, thereby reducing the regressive impact on lower-income households.

In celebration of two decades of architectural distinction and world-class service, Silver Star Tower, Ghana’s premier office complex located in Airport City, Accra, has officially unveiled plans for its next landmark development, Silver Star Tower II (SST2).

The announcement was made during a grand ceremony commemorating the 20th anniversary of the original Silver Star Tower.

The event drew key stakeholders from the business community, real estate sector, and long-standing tenants, marking a moment of reflection and forward-looking ambition.

A Vision of Modernity: Silver Star Tower II

Silver Star Tower II is set to redefine Accra’s skyline with its ultra-modern, curvilinear design. The 10 storey structure will offer 25,000 square meters of premium office space, complemented by 2,000 square meters of retail outlets and underground parking for 355 vehicles.

The building’s unique architectural feature, two towers connected at the base and split at the top will make it the only structure in Ghana with a tower atop another.

Executive Director Salah Kweku Kalmoni highlighted the building’s sustainability credentials, “SST2 will feature solar technical glass that allows 80% of light in while rejecting 80% of heat. It will also include high-efficiency air conditioning, smart lighting systems, and rainwater harvesting, all designed to minimize environmental impact.”

The project has already passed its assessment phase and received its building permit, signaling the start of execution. SST2 will share the same prestigious address as its predecessor in Airport City.

Celebrating Legacy and Looking Ahead

Board Chairman Salem Kalmoni reflected on the journey of Silver Star Tower, recalling the strategic acquisition of the land and the pioneering spirit that led to the first commissioned building in Airport City: “We built something iconic and beautiful. Today, Silver Star Tower is featured in many tourist publications and has become the face of modern Accra.”

He commended the management team, led by Salah Kweku Kalmoni, for maintaining the building’s elegance and relevance over two decades.

Executive Secretary of the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA), Samuel Amegayibor, also lauded Silver Star Tower’s contribution to the sector: “Silver Star Tower has consistently upheld GREDA’s values and continues to elevate Ghana’s real estate landscape. Congratulations on this new chapter.”

The evening concluded with a special recognition of outstanding tenants and staff who have contributed to the tower’s enduring success.

THE GHANA Football Association (GFA) has announced that Black Stars midfielder Abu Francis has successfully undergone surgery in Japan following the serious injury he sustained during the international friendly against Japan.

Francis suffered fractures to two bones during the match, prompting immediate medical intervention.

Additionally, arrangements are being made for a senior member of the technical team to accompany Francis back to France once he is discharged from the Toyota Memorial Hospital, where the operation was performed.

The GFA expressed gratitude to all parties who have supported the player over the past few days.

“We are especially thankful to the Black Stars management and technical team for their exceptional support,” the statement said. “We will continue to rely on their assistance as we work to help Francis return to full fitness.”

President John Dramani Mahama has renewed his pledge to protect the autonomy of Ghana’s judiciary, describing it as an indispensable pillar of the country’s democracy.

Speaking at a public forum on governance and accountability, the President emphasized that no nation can build a credible democratic system without an impartial judicial arm. He noted that safeguarding the courts from political interference remains essential to ensuring fairness, strengthening public trust, and preserving the rule of law.

According to President Mahama, his administration will continue to support reforms that enhance judicial efficiency, improve court infrastructure, and guarantee adequate resources for judges and court staff. He acknowledged recent challenges facing the justice system but maintained that the best approach is to reinforce institutions rather than undermine them.

“An independent judiciary is not negotiable,” he said. “Our progress as a nation rests on a system where justice is delivered without fear, favor, or external pressure.”

Legal experts and civil society groups have welcomed the President’s comments, urging government to match the commitment with practical measures that speed up ongoing reforms. Many called for greater transparency in judicial appointments and increased investment in digital tools to reduce delays.

As the country approaches another electoral cycle, stakeholders say the assurance of an independent judiciary will be crucial in settling electoral disputes and maintaining national stability.

President Mahama reiterated that his government remains fully dedicated to upholding constitutional principles, insisting that the judiciary will always have the freedom and protection it needs to perform its duties faithfully.

Dr Frank Bannor warns of rising domestic debt pressure

Senior Research Fellow at IERPP, Dr Frank Bannor Senior Research Fellow at IERPP, Dr Frank Bannor

Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP), Dr Frank Bannor, has raised fresh concerns over the sustainability of Ghana’s fiscal framework, warning that the 2025 Budget reveals a worrying surge in domestic debt servicing alongside significant revenue losses arising from recently announced tax cuts.

Speaking on Asaase Radio during an analysis of the 2026 Budget Statement, Dr Bannor urged Ghanaians to pay close attention to the appendices of the budget, which he described as the “real details behind the summary the Finance Minister presents on the floor of Parliament.”

“If you refer to Appendix 3A of the budget statement… you will notice something striking. In the 2025 budget, interest servicing remains the second-highest item on government expenditure,” he said.

According to him, the numbers show a dramatic concentration of pressure on the domestic side of public debt.

“Out of the GH¢57.7 billion allocated for interest payments, about GH¢50 billion will go solely toward servicing domestic debt. That is shocking,” he stressed.

Dr Bannor explained that this reflects not only the volume of borrowing undertaken by the current administration in its first year, but also the debt legacy inherited from the previous government and the projected borrowing trajectory going forward.

He noted that interest payments on external debt are comparatively lower, estimated at GH¢7.6 billion, largely because Ghana’s external debt service remains suspended. However, he cautioned that this temporary relief will soon end.

“Most of these external obligations will return from late 2026, with heavy repayment schedules expected in 2027, 2028, 2029, and beyond. This is worrying because it poses a significant threat to the fiscal discipline we all expect,” he said, warning that the government’s long-criticised appetite for borrowing will be severely tested.

Turning to the Finance Minister’s decision to abolish certain taxes, including the COVID-19 levy, Dr Bannor said the removal of the levy creates a clear revenue gap that government has not fully accounted for.

The budget projects total revenue of GH¢229 billion for 2025, with the COVID-19 levy alone expected to contribute GH¢3.21 billion.

“Abolishing this levy creates a significant hole in the government’s revenue projections,” he explained.

While acknowledging that the removal of such taxes provides relief for households, he cautioned that it comes at a cost.

“What is money back into citizens’ pockets becomes a big revenue loss for the government,” he said.

Dr Bannor also pointed out that government expenditure, projected at GH¢269 billion, remains unchanged despite these revenue cuts.

“This raises an important question: How will these revenue shortfalls be addressed within the government’s fiscal framework?”

“We need the Finance Minister to explain clearly how he intends to plug the gap created by removing the COVID-19 levy,” he added.

Dr Bannor warned that Ghana’s weak domestic revenue performance makes the political decision to scrap taxes even more risky. From the revised budget, the GH¢229 billion revenue projection represents about 16.4% of GDP, including grants. When grants are excluded, domestic revenue is around GH¢222 billion, placing Ghana’s tax-to-GDP ratio “somewhere around 15 percent.”

“That is woefully inadequate,” he said, comparing Ghana’s figure to South Africa’s tax-to-GDP ratio of 24.8 percent. “We fall short by almost 10 percentage points.”

He argued that this structural weakness in domestic revenue mobilisation means popular tax cuts may undermine fiscal discipline unless government outlines credible compensatory measures.

“Ghana performs poorly in tax collection, even for the taxes we have properly identified,” he said. “Meanwhile, a significant portion of the population still depends on government for public goods and essential services.”

Dr Bannor added that while abolishing taxes may be politically appealing, the underlying numbers raise “serious concerns about fiscal sustainability” as the country steps into another demanding budget year.

‘Stop discussing my exit in dark corners’ – Ramaphosa asks ANC NEC

0

ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa has reportedly told the ANC national executive committee (NEC) that he will step down if given a date by which he should resign.

In a heated direct political overview report, Ramaphosa dared his political detractors to stop discussing his exit in “dark corners like cowards”, according to the SABC.

Ramaphosa’s comment comes after intense speculation within the higher echelons of the ANC that he is planning to resign after the G20 summit and step back from leading the government early next year.

‘Departure lounge’

Asked if Ramaphosa was in the “departure lounge,” the ANC’s Nonceba Mhlauli said there is no “departure lounge” in the NEC, emphasising that the current committee, elected in December 2022, will serve its full term until December 2027 under Ramaphosa.

“I’m not sure what departure lounge that is, but as far as we are concerned, there is no departure lounge in the national executive committee,” Mhlauli said.

“This national executive committee, with its president, was elected in December 2022. Our term ends in December 2027, and our term will end with President Cyril Ramaphosa as the president of the ANC, where he will then be handing over if he doesn’t, of course, decide to stand for a third term.

“That was in jest, that was a joke, but to answer your question, there is no departure lounge. President Ramaphosa is the president of the ANC, and his term ends in 2027. Whatever other rumours that are there, we cannot speak to or verify them for any other reason,” Mhlauli said.

‘War’

Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader and Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie, during an update on the party’s Facebook page on Sunday, claimed “the war has started.”

“The war has started. You saw what is happening in ANC. I’m told the president told them, ‘Give me the day that you want me to resign,’ because apparently, there are people in dark corners who want the president to go.

“This step will be a massive mistake for them, but because we have turned the corner in South Africa,” McKenzie said.

McKenzie was referring to the successes of the government of national unity (GNU).

‘Rumours’

Earlier this month, Ramaphosa’s special envoy to the Central African Republic (CAR), Bejani Chauke, also said the president would not be stepping down after the G20 Leader Summit in Johannesburg, describing the rumours as “irresponsible.”

Chauke, a close ally of Ramaphosa, slammed the rumour following reports that the president had convened a secret retreat with political leaders in the GNU to discuss the coalition government, which could have implications for its future.

Cabinet

Chauke said the president, in accordance with coalition agreements and the spirit of the GNU, has consistently guided the Cabinet towards the comprehensive renewal of South Africa and the improvement of its accountability ecosystem, fostering hope and reassurance across the nation.

He added that Ramaphosa’s dedication to bridging political divides and uniting the nation “remains unwavering” and is working diligently to receive the G20 heads of state and integrate them into the African and Global South development agenda.

I’ll uphold the Judiciary’s independence

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the independence of Ghana’s judiciary, describing it as a constitutional necessity and a protection for all citizens, including the President.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Jubilee House in Accra, President Mahama stressed the importance of maintaining a delicate balance of power among the executive, legislature, and judiciary.

He noted that while each branch of government must operate independently, they must also collaborate for the common good.

“The strength of our democracy depends on the delicate yet essential balance of powers among the executive, the legislature, and the judiciary. Today as President, I pledge my unwavering commitment to the independence of the judiciary,” he said.

President Mahama emphasised that judicial independence is not a failure of the courts but a constitutional safeguard. He called for the protection of the courts’ financial, institutional, and administrative autonomy, adding that court decisions, whether popular or unpopular, must be respected and enforced as the bedrock of the rule of law.

The President expressed confidence in the leadership of Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, saying the judiciary will continue to uphold its constitutional mandate without fear or favour.

Cocoa smuggling costs Ghana over $1bn in three years

0

Jake Kudjo Samahar, Director of Special Services at COCOBOD, has revealed that Ghana lost a total of 7,128.13 tonnes of cocoa to smuggling between the 2020 and 2025 crop years in the Volta and Oti regions.

According to him, cocoa production in these regions has drastically declined over the period.

“The tonnage recorded for 2020/21 crop year was 7,215.19, which reduced to 5,656.25 in 2021/22, further downward to 874.31 in the 2022/23 crop year, while 2023/24 recorded 468.75 tonnes with 2024/25 crop year recording 87.06 tonnes,” he stated.

Mr. Samahar further noted that Ghana lost a total of US$1.1 billion from 2022 to 2025 due to cocoa smuggling to neighbouring Togo and Côte d’Ivoire.

“We are losing a lot of revenue because if you look at within three years from 2022-2025, Ghana has lost almost $1.1 billion through cocoa smuggling into neighbouring Togo and Côte d’Ivoire,” he said.

The disclosure came during a working visit by COCOBOD board members to the Oti and Volta regions, where they interacted with stakeholders in the cocoa sector.

Security personnel in both regions have been identified as key actors in the growing smuggling trade, a development that COCOBOD says is exacerbating losses and weakening border enforcement.

Mr. Samahar explained that smuggling occurs through both local movements within border communities and transit routes into neighbouring countries, often facilitated by compromised security checkpoints.

“The uniqueness of the smuggling in the Volta region and Oti is that we have two categories of smuggling. The first is the local smuggling, where cocoa beans are moved from our farms in the Volta region or Oti region into Togo. And then we have the transit ones that move from other regions through the corridors of the eastern corridor down to or into Togo,” he said.

“This means that the security services are not manning their checkpoints. Some of them have compromised themselves very much,” he added.

Mahama swears in Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice

President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as the new Chief Justice of Ghana.

The ceremony, held at the Jubilee House in Accra on Monday, November 17, 2025, follows Parliament’s approval of his nomination earlier this month.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie was nominated by President Mahama on September 23, 2025, in recognition of his extensive experience and long service across the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court.

He has been serving as Acting Chief Justice since April 22, 2025, after the suspension and eventual dismissal of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Prior to his confirmation, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on November 10, where he pledged open-door, bipartisan leadership and emphasised his commitment to strengthening judicial independence and improving access to justice.

Parliament confirmed his appointment on November 13 with 163 votes in favour and 69 against, clearing the way for today’s official swearing-in ceremony.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie now assumes full responsibilities as Chief Justice, tasked with leading Ghana’s judiciary and upholding the rule of law.

I wish Daddy Lumba’s funeral could be postponed for a year

Prophet Kumchacha is the founder of Heaven’s Gate Minintries Prophet Kumchacha is the founder of Heaven’s Gate Minintries

Prophet Kumchacha has expressed strong concerns over the ongoing disputes surrounding the funeral arrangements of Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, suggesting that the ceremony should be postponed for an entire year.

Speaking on United Showbiz on November 16, 2025, Kumchacha disclosed that the persistent controversies, especially the recent uproar over the alleged GH₵30,000 withdrawal by the family head have overshadowed preparations and created unnecessary tension among those involved.

“If not that the elders have set the funeral date to December 13, I wish the funeral could be postponed for a year. Daddy Lumba should be in the mortuary for a year so that all these shenanigans will cool down,” he said.

According to him, the disputes re-emerged at a time when the funeral arrangements were nearly complete, causing frustration and fueling public criticism.

He questioned Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu’s justification for the controversial GH₵30,000 withdrawal, arguing that as the family head, catering for the late musician’s wives should be his responsibility.

Men should be allowed to marry more than one wife – Prophet Kumchacha

“We were almost done and now, the family head’s money issue popped up again. He is claiming he paid for the goat and gave both women money for upkeep. What if that money wasn’t available?

“He is the elder in the family and it’s his responsibility to cater for the wives. Where would he have gotten the money from? He said he went to get a loan, the GH₵30,000 that’s supposed to be saved could have been sent somewhere they would not touch the money,” he noted.

Kumchacha shared that the family head has been associated with issues from the beginning of the funeral planning process, a situation he believes has discouraged many supporters from actively participating.

“From day 1, people have been tagging him with problems. If not that the elders have confirmed the date, I really wish they could postpone the funeral. Many people have given up on the funeral already. Even though I believe people will show up for the funeral but they would show up more if there were no controversies going on,” he added.

Dr. Boako Condemns Mass Arrests

0

Dr. Gideon Boako

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North in the Ahafo Region, Dr. Gideon Boako, has strongly condemned the recent military swoop and mass arrests of Hwediem residents in connection with the attack on officials of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

In a statement, Dr. Boako described the arrests and subsequent repatriation of residents to Kumasi as “unacceptable and unjust.”

While reaffirming his condemnation of any violence or attacks on state officials performing their duties, the MP urged the security services to act within the bounds of the law and uphold the fundamental human rights of citizens.

“The response by the security agencies must be measured, lawful, and respect the fundamental human rights of the citizens we represent,” he said.

Dr. Boako argued that the sweeping arrests without proper investigations risked punishing innocent citizens alongside the guilty.

He insisted that every individual arrested must be subjected to a transparent and prompt investigation to determine their culpability, if any.

“The focus should be on identifying and prosecuting the true perpetrators of the attack, not subjecting an entire community to collective punishment,” he emphasised.

The lawmaker appealed to the people of Hwediem to remain calm and cooperate with lawful investigations, while urging the government and security agencies to ensure that the pursuit of justice does not turn into an act of injustice.

He called for a thorough, transparent investigation into the incident to identify and prosecute the real perpetrators rather than targeting the entire community.

The MP urged the security agencies to halt the blanket arrest approach and instead uphold the rule of law in their operations.

Dr. Boako reiterated his commitment to ensuring justice and peace in the Ahafo Region.

He reminded the public that violence is never the answer, and that all sides must work together to protect lives, uphold rights, and ensure the fair administration of justice.
