Salam Mustapha to NPP: Avoid widening rifts during Thank You Tour

0

NPP National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha.

The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has appealed for harmony within the party, urging members to refrain from aggravating existing tensions in the wake of the “Thank You” tour.

Speaking to Channel One TV on Saturday, 3 May, Mustapha acknowledged that internal disagreements are to be expected but insisted they must be managed thoughtfully.

His remarks follow heightened calls for a pause in the tour after former flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong withdrew amid deepening factional disputes.

“What I will rather ask is that we do not deepen the cracks. It is okay to disagree but we should also mind the language,” Mr Mustapha advised, emphasising the need for respectful discourse even when opinions diverge.

He cautioned that intemperate rhetoric risks widening rifts that are already eroding party cohesion.

Despite the controversy surrounding Mr Agyapong’s departure, Mustapha expressed confidence that the tour will proceed uninterrupted.

He noted that recent visits to the Bono East and Savannah regions had gone smoothly, illustrating the tour’s continued momentum.

Ghana U-15 captain Hajara Adam receives hero’s welcome at TAMASCO

Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO) erupted with pride and celebration as students and staff welcomed back one of their own, Hajara Adam, Captain of Ghana’s U-15 girls’ national team, following her historic triumph at the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship.

Hajara, who led the team from right-back, returned to the Northern Region as a national hero after guiding Ghana to their first-ever title in the competition.

The young Black Damsels sealed the championship with a 2-0 win over Uganda on April 26, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium, capping off a flawless campaign in which they remained unbeaten throughout.

In a heartwarming homecoming ceremony, TAMASCO students gathered on the streets to cheer their captain.

Her impact throughout the tournament was immense, not just as a leader, but also as one of the competition’s standout performers.

Ghana’s journey to the title was nothing short of dominant. They cruised through the group stage with victories over Morocco, Benin, and Malawi, before edging defending champions South Africa in a high-stakes semifinal.

It was in that very game that Hajara etched her name in tournament folklore, scoring what many hailed as the goal of the competition – a stunning long-range free kick that left the South African goalkeeper stranded.

In the final, while the goals came from Belinda Kpentey and Daniella Abass, it was Hajara’s leadership and defensive solidity that anchored the team to their fourth clean sheet in five matches.

Her marauding runs down the right flank were a constant threat, and her composure under pressure earned praises from coaches, fans, and pundits alike.

Ibrahim Mahama Pays Medical Bills for Girl Shot in School After Viral Plea

Business mogul and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has offered to pay the full medical expenses of Suzzy Pinamang, the 16-year-old girl who suffered a devastating eye injury after being shot at Adventist Senior High School in Kumasi. According to YEN, The brother of former President John Mahama reportedly intervened after watching a viral video in which Suzzy pleaded for help, calling out to both him and dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.

“Help me, I’m suffering. Please, Shatta Wale and Ibrahim Mahama, come to my aid,” Suzzy cried in the heartbreaking footage that gripped the nation.

Clement Kubi, a relative of the injured student, confirmed the development in an exclusive with YEN.com.gh. “We received a call on Friday evening, May 2, from an aide to Mr Ibrahim Mahama. He said Mr Mahama had seen Suzzy’s video and decided to cover all her medical expenses,” Kubi revealed.

The family has now been scheduled to travel to Accra to consult a top ophthalmologist, who will determine the next course of action for Suzzy’s urgent treatment.

“This is a huge relief to us,” Kubi added. “We were worried about how we’d raise the money, but now there’s hope.”

The development comes just days after the young girl’s emotional appeal went viral, drawing sympathy and outrage from across the country.

Suzzy’s case has sparked renewed concerns over student safety and the growing threat of violence in schools. While investigations continue, many Ghanaians have praised Ibrahim Mahama for his swift humanitarian gesture.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has not minced words in his criticism of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing their electoral conduct and post-defeat posture as dangerously arrogant.

Reacting to the NPP’s “Thank You Tour,” the political scientist said the tour ignores the public anger that cost them the 2024 elections.

“When we complained openly, they arrogantly responded that regardless of their mayhem on us, they will still break the eight, as if we are all very dumb and stupid,” he said on social media sighted by MyNewsGH.

“When we rubbished their insistence to break the eight, they responded by saying ‘it is possible’. The height of NPP arrogance!”

According to Gyampo, five separate post-election surveys indicate that the NPP currently enjoys less than 25% support among the electorate.

He cautioned that rather than prematurely celebrating or criticizing the new Mahama administration, the NPP should focus on internal reforms and re-engaging Ghanaians with humility.

“This is not the time for leadership struggles in the party that has nearly collapsed and risks annihilation,” he warned.

After a heartfelt appeal by Suzzy Adwoa Pinaman, a second-year student at the Bantama Adventist Senior High School in the Ashanti Region, who was shot in the eye by a fellow classmate, Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist, Ibrahim Mahama, has extended his support to assist the young lady.

According to Rafik Mahama, Aide to Ibrahim Mahama, Suzzy, who resides in the Ashanti Region, is expected to arrive in Accra on Monday, May 5, 2025, to begin surgery aimed at restoring her vision, which is currently deteriorating.

In a post on his official Facebook account on May 3, 2025, Rafik Mahama also expressed his well-wishes to Suzzy, hoping for her swift and full recovery.

“Suzzy will be in Accra on Monday to begin the surgery process. Speedy recovery, Suzzy,” Rafik posted.

Earlier, GhanaWeb reported that Suzzy had appealed for support from former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, as well as from businessman and philanthropist, Ibrahim Mahama.

Suzzy, who is currently at home suffering from eye pains and unable to attend school due to her condition, explained that the residual fragments from the bullet fired into her eye has made it impossible for her to sleep or even close her eyes.

According to her, the situation has left her mother helpless, as they have received no assistance whatsoever.

“Hon Kennedy Agyapong and Ibrahim Mahama, I am pleading with you to hear my cry and come to my aid. I have no one. There are residual bullet fragments in my eyes and due to that I can’t sleep. I’m pleading with you to come and help me so my eyes can be treated and restored. All my mates are in school learning but I’m home. I’m always thinking about my situation. My mother is helpless and has no one to help her. Please help me get my eyes back,” she was heard appealing in the video.

Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang went blind after being shot in the face by a classmate during school hours.

The incident reportedly happened on Friday, April 4, 2025, during break time, when Bernard Amoabeng, a Form Two student, allegedly brought a firearm to school.

The gun became the subject of a heated debate among a group of students, some of whom questioned whether it was real or not.

In an attempt to prove a point, Amoabeng allegedly pulled the trigger, injuring two students in the process.

Meanwhile, the suspect, a 16-year-old second year student, has been remanded into police custody following his arrest.

Ever heard of the ‘kankan nyame’? Well, while there remain many interpretations of what it was or not, a man who lived in the very period that the term became very prominent, Kojo Bonsu, has shared details of what exactly it was.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, Kojo Bonsu (real name Michael Kwadwo Mensah Bonsu), a former Mayor of Kumasi, explained the circumstances that him to live at the Flagstaff House under Kwame Nkrumah.

With his sister married to Nkrumah’s chief protocol officer at the time, he was privileged to live at the seat of government, he explained.

“My senior sister, may she rest in peace – she’s passed on, when I was about 3 years old, by then, she hadn’t given birth and she had married the chief protocol officer of Dr Kwame Nkrumah. So, my sister decided to take me on as a son. So, I became, in a way, a son to my sister and I came to live with her at the Flagstaff House and my brother-in-law, Ambassador Kofi Darko, who was the direct protocol officer to Kwame Nkrumah,” he said.

Kojo Bonsu, in further describing his time at the Flagstaff House (now Jubilee House), reflected on the famous ‘kankan nyame’ tales in Ghanaian history.

He explained house the house he lived in with his sister and her husband became the very spot for this ‘kankan nyame.’

But exactly what was it? He explained;

“We lived at the Flagstaff House In fact, in history, if you heard of Bungalow Number 4, that is where they put the ‘kankan nyame’; that is the house we lived in… when Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown, there was this propaganda that went around that he had brought some juju from Guinea and it was called ‘kankan nyame.’ That thing was done at that house – Bungalow Number 4.

“The present-day Flagstaff House, when you go there, you know that main gate, opposite, used to be the Radio Ghana and that house was directly opposite and it was a direct link to the Flagstaff House,” he added.

The former flagbearer aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) also narrated stories around how he lived through the years of the 1966 coup that toppled the government of Kwame Nkrumah, as well as some details surrounding his relationship with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Additional details from africa-research.com give further information on the ‘kankan nyame’ and its real origin. The following details are from the website:

Nkrumah was introduced to a deity in a town called KANKAN in Guinea.

Kankan is the largest town among the Mande speakers of Guinea.

Nkrumah brought the Kankan goddess to Ghana in 1953 and made a secret shrine for her within the Flagstaff House.

According to one Prophet Baidoo, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah spiritually enslaved the country in bondage when he used a pregnant woman’s blood to make a god that he called Kankan Nyame.

“After Independence, whoever has sat on the throne of the presidency has never had it easy ruling the country.

At the end, Ghanaians lie in difficulties.”

Describing the Kankan Nyame, the prophet said:

“Dr. Nkrumah made a half-dead pregnant woman kneel, and tied seven white handkerchiefs around her neck and hands.

There were some bowls around the pregnant woman containing human blood and human skulls placed between the bowls.”

According to him, Nkrumah kept this god at the Flagstaff House and at the castle.

“Some of the human blood was also sent to the Independence Square. The statue at the Independence Square was built with human blood,” he reiterated.

He described the star in a hand with the inscription Gye Nyame on the country’s bank notes as juju and could be attributed to the fallen value of the Cedi.

The Man of God further said bloodshed would continue as it happened at the stadium disaster if Ghanaians continue to accept blood as stated in the national song, Yen ara asase ni.

“Some of the juju medicine was also kept in the Peduase Lodge (Nkrumah’s special residence) and at the Osu cemetery.

When invited, I will be able to show and prove where it was buried at the Osu cemetery,” he added.

Also, according to Dr. Obed Asamoah of the NDC (one of the founding fathers of the NDC party), Nkrumah used to visit the female deity.

The rumour of Kankan Nyame shot up after the overthrow of Dr Nkrumah in 1966.

Violent clashes erupt outside stadium after Wydad’s victory over AS FAR

Wydad AC secured a crucial 2-1 win over rivals AS FAR in Casablanca on Saturday, May 3, 2025, but the result was overshadowed by violent clashes that broke out outside the stadium after the final whistle.

The Botola Pro fixture, which saw Wydad claim all three points, thanks to goals from Samuel Obeng and Thembinkosi Lorch, was fiercely contested on the pitch, and tensions evidently spilt over into the streets as rival fans clashed in the aftermath.

Ghanaian forward Obeng opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, expertly converting after being set up by Mailula. Wydad went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

However, AS FAR hit back just before the hour mark through Abdelfettah Hadraf, who equalised in the 57th minute.

Just when it seemed the visitors might seize control, South African international Lorch stepped up with a composed finish in the 67th minute to restore Wydad’s advantage and ultimately seal the win.

It was a massive result for Wydad – their first under interim coach, Mohamed Amine Benhache, who took charge after the club announced Rulani Mokwena’s impending departure at the end of the season.

The celebrations inside the stadium, however, quickly turned into chaos outside as rival supporters reportedly clashed violently, prompting a heavy police response.

Videos circulating on social media showed flares, thrown objects, and running confrontations, although the full extent of injuries or arrests remain unclear at this time.

Wydad’s win lifts morale at a critical point in their campaign, but the post-match unrest highlights ongoing concerns over fan violence in Moroccan football.

Popular Yoruba movie actress Juliet Jatto has revealed the amount of confidence she has in her own beauty, while also stating what she would do if no man comes to approach her for a relationship despite the amount of beauty she believes she is blessed with, while also stating her personal experience about sex for movie roles in the movie industry.

In a video that was posted on the official YouTube channel of Feelrightnews TV during an interview, she claimed that as beautiful as she is, if no man comes to toast her, she would go to the river to wash her head in order to seek a spiritual solution.

In her statement, she said, “It is normal for men to toast women in every organisation and not the movie industry alone. As beautiful as I am, if no man comes to toast me, I will go to a river to wash my head. When I was in the movie industry, some of the actors tried to take advantage of me, but I used my wisdom to get myself out of the situation. Nobody can force me to sleep with him, and I can’t fight with any man because he toasted me since he doesn’t have the power to force me to be in a relationship with him.”

Type Of Car Used By 8 Robbers In Konongo After Botched Operation, One Arrested

News Hub Creator18h

Police in Ghana are actively pursuing seven armed individuals believed to be responsible for a bold robbery in Konongo, located in the Ashanti Region. The gang is accused of stealing GH¢130,000 during the operation, fleeing the scene after learning that law enforcement was closing in on them.

During the robbery, one victim was reportedly locked in a room, which allowed the robbers to take the money without interference. However, their escape was compromised when a local resident identified one of the suspects, 40-year-old Amid Tahiru.

Tahiru attempted to avoid arrest by diving into a river, but he was swiftly captured by members of the community and handed over to the police.

A subsequent search led officers to seize a cache of weapons and tools linked to the robbery. Among the items found were a Wilson pistol with 11 rounds of Luger 9mm ammunition, a Heckler & Koch MP5 rifle loaded with 37 bullets, two black masks, a grading machine, and a car number plate.

In addition to Tahiru, another suspect, Hlordeme George—who works as a guard—was also taken into custody. Both are being held as investigations continue and will be arraigned in court shortly.

The robbery has heightened fear among residents and drawn renewed attention to the need for greater security measures in the region as police intensify their efforts to track down the rest of the suspects.

We told you NDC walks with dumsor but you didn’t listen

NPP 2024 flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia NPP 2024 flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has reminded Ghanaians of his party’s warnings about the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 elections.

According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cautioned that the NDC and “dumsor” (power outages) are inseparable, indicating that the party is incapable of resolving the country’s power crisis.

However, Ghanaians did not heed his warnings and have now learned the hard way.

Bawumia stated that a constant power supply is essential for a 24-hour economy, but the NDC has failed to deliver this since coming to power, delaying their flagship 24-hour economy program.

“Can you have a 24-hour economy with dumsor? It is not possible. We warned Ghanaians that the NDC and dumsor walk together. Once they take one step forward, dumsor follows. Ghanaians didn’t listen, but today it is clear we have a major problem. We managed this for eight years, but for them, four months in, it’s a big challenge,” he told enthusiastic party supporters during his Thank You Tour.

74-year-old British national dies during sex with a 20-year-old at movie house in East Legon

0

John Scott Hughes, a 74-year-old British citizen, died unexpectedly during a private encounter with a 20-year-old woman, Pearl Agbomadzi, at Philipo’s Movie House in East Legon, Accra. According to case details, Hughes had arranged to meet Pearl at a local area known as American House. From there, they went to the movie house, where Hughes booked a private room. Prosecutors revealed the pair watched sexually explicit material before engaging in consensual sexual activity.

Midway through their meeting, Hughes reportedly lost consciousness and fell. Agbomadzi acted swiftly by alerting the movie house staff, who called for medical assistance. He was subsequently transported to Legon Hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. The sudden nature of the death prompted law enforcement to initiate a formal investigation, with Hughes’ spouse filing the initial complaint and actively following the case.

Agbomadzi was taken into custody and charged with murder. At a court hearing on October 24, her legal representative, John Baptist Ayedze, requested bail. The prosecution, led by Frederick Adu Gyamfi, did not object. Presiding judge Lydia Osei Marfo granted bail under the condition of a GHS100,000 bond and one surety, releasing Agbomadzi while awaiting trial.

Judge Marfo used the occasion to deliver a cautionary note to older men, particularly regarding their sexual activity with much younger individuals. She emphasized that significant age differences can pose serious health challenges and urged men to be mindful of the strain such engagements might place on their bodies.

Nana Kwaku Bonsam Warns Abronye DC Over Attacks on Kennedy Agyapong

News Hub Creator54min

Ghanaian spiritualist Nana Kwaku Bonsam has issued a stern warning to Abronye DC, urging him to cease his verbal attacks on Hon. Kennedy Agyapong. In a passionate statement, Kwaku Bonsam expressed disappointment in Abronye DC’s behavior, calling him ungrateful and cautioning him about the consequences of his actions.

Kwaku Bonsam reminded Abronye DC of his humble beginnings, emphasizing that he was once unknown until certain individuals helped elevate his status. He criticized Abronye DC for what he described as a lack of appreciation and respect, stating that turning against those who contributed to his rise was a sign of ingratitude.

The spiritualist did not hold back in his warning, suggesting that Abronye DC should tread carefully. He hinted at the possibility of using spiritual means to teach him a lesson if he continued his attacks on Kennedy Agyapong. However, Kwaku Bonsam clarified that his warning was not meant as a threat but rather as advice from a “brother man” who wishes to see peace and respect maintained.

The statement has sparked discussions among Ghanaians, with some supporting Kwaku Bonsam’s call for respect, while others believe Abronye DC has the right to express his opinions freely. The controversy adds another layer to the ongoing political tensions in Ghana, particularly surrounding Kennedy Agyapong, a figure known for his outspoken nature.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Abronye DC will heed Kwaku Bonsam’s warning or continue his criticisms of Kennedy Agyapong. One thing is certain—this exchange has added to the ever-evolving political discourse in Ghana.

The artwork on display is stunning, and the pricing is excellent and appropriate for each piece. Those attendees who made it to the art exhibition had the opportunity to speak with the creators of each piece directly.

Painting from the Dark Age Series by Patrick William Dodoo, one of the artists whose works powerfully expressed the artist. Patrick went on to describe the rationale for a painting of an old, wrinkly man, whose face is obscured by numerous hands.

In his words, as paraphrased, Patrick mentioned, “This painting is to show a man who upon his old age, still feels restricted from voicing out his truth, and openly talking about issues facing humanity, this art was exhibited concerning Global Warming, and it’s negative effects yet those who truly care, feels their mouth sealed from speaking out.

The excellent saxophone tune played by Borsah is another one of the main highlights of the art exhibition! The event was a success, with delicious savory toppings and cocktails for everyone to enjoy.

Painting in the medium of acrylic on canvas, his instantly recognizable black and white palette brings to life in celebratory fashions the images of your everyday person.

His paintings usually have flat vibrant backgrounds juxtaposed with contrasting black-and-white portraits of people with different facial expressions and body postures.

Patrick is also the founder of Painting. The Open [PITO] is an initiative that seeks to demystify the process of artists working by setting up makeshift artist studios in public and inviting members of the public to join in the process of creating artwork. Patrick has exhibited widely.

Working in the medium of oil, watercolour, acrylic, charcoal, pastel, and ink, his work captures the social, environmental, and symbolic aspects of life in Ghana. He incorporates Indigenous symbols in his art not only to preserve his heritage and ancestry but also as a way of honouring the lessons learned as a boy from his father. His art depicts the daily scenes of Ghanaian children at play, market women, and people deeply engrossed in their occupations.

Enoch Yaw Mensah is a proud recipient of many awards including 20041st Prize: Shell GAVA Art Competition, 2005 1st Prize: Shell GAVA Art Competition, 2006 1st Prize: The Unimax Macmillan Children’s Illustrator Award for Africa, and 2nd Prize2007: Ghana @ 50 Art Award. Mawuko has had several public art commissions, notable among them are his murals at Kotoka International Airport (Departure Hall), the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre (Accra), the Vodafone Ghana (Head Office Airport City), and the Holiday Inn Hotel (Accra) just to mention a few. Head coach of Medeama SC, Ibrahim Tanko has given thumbs up to his charges after their heavy win at home to Vision FC.

The Mauve and Yellow pummeled the new boys by 3-1 at the Tarkwa TnA Park in week 30 on Saturday evening, a result that maintains Medeama’s perfect home run giving Coach Ibrahim Tanko some joy.

“I think it was a sweet victory in the end and I think in the first half because of one or two decisions, the players were very angry on the pitch so I had to cool them down the dressing room to play our normal game but I think in the end the 3-1 is a deserved win,” Tanko told Medi TV.

“We have to commend them because they are scoring even though they have the chance to score more goals. Definitely we are going to watch the game and train on the chances that we have to score.”

The two time Ghana FA Cup winners moved into 5th on the league table with 47 points – three behind Kotoko and Heart of Lions who share third spot.

Fitch Solutions revises Ghana's GDP target Fitch Solutions revises Ghana’s GDP target

Through its subsidiary, BMI – a British multinational research firm Fitch Solutions has kept Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth for 2025 at 4.2 per cent.

The moderate economic growth is marginally higher than the four per cent projection the Government announced in the 2025 Budget and by the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) April 2025 Regional Economic Outlook.

“We maintain our 2025 growth forecast for Ghana at 4.2 per cent. We believe that the impact from global trade tensions will be offset by the rise in gold prices, which will boost Ghana’s export earnings,” it said in its Ghana Country Risk Report.

The report noted that counterbalance in gold prices, combined with lower energy costs, would drive the current account surplus to a record 6.9 per cent of GDP in 2025, supporting the country’s reserves and helping to stabilise the cedi.

“That said, we maintain our view that growth will slow in 2025, following the strong 5.7 per cent in 2024, caused by the end of election-related fiscal stimulus, plateauing oil production, and tight credit conditions,” Fitch stated.

“Our hope for the future is that as the economy stabilizes, as inflation goes down, as the deficit moves back on track with the program objectives, that it will strengthen confidence,” said Mr Stéphane Roudet, IMF Mission Chief for Ghana.

He said this during a roundtable media engagement with Ghanaian journalists on the sidelines of the just-ended IMF/World Bank Group (WBG) spring meetings in Washington, DC, USA.

“… It will also bolster investment and the role of the private sector, and not just in one sector, but our hope is very much that this is going to be the case across the board,” Roudet said.

He urged the government to strictly adhere to the planned targets of the implementation of the US$3 billion Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme, aimed at restoring macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability and stimulating economic resilience.

“This is very important. It’s not just today, but it’s in the next few years. Programme commitments have to be continued to be implemented,” the IMF Mission Staff echoed.

“We remain steadfast in meeting the IMF programme targets while restoring Ghana’s creditworthiness,” Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, Finance Minister, said when he delivered the 2025 budget earlier this year.

He said the Government would implement a 24-hour economy policy to address the country’s structural economic challenges and stimulate growth and job creation.

Dr Forson said that would be done by creating an integrated, efficient and increasingly export-driven industrial economy that fully utilised its national resources, capital and labour power.

Why Is Abeiku Santana Still Hosting Radio Shows During Office Hours? Mark Okraku-Mantey Explodes

Mark Okraku-Mantey, has raised serious concerns about broadcaster Abeiku Aggrey Santana’s continued presence on radio during official working hours despite his current role as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

Speaking on JoyNews’ entertainment segment, Okraku-Mantey expressed disappointment at what he described as a growing culture of silence in the media regarding potential misconduct by public officials. According to him, Abeiku Santana, who was appointed by former President John Dramani Mahama to lead the GTA, should not be using state time to host his popular drive-time program on Okay FM.

“Why is Abeiku Santana still on air at Okay FM during office hours? He works at the Ghana Tourism Authority — a public office. It is NOT acceptable!” he lamented passionately during the discussion.

Mark Okraku-Mantey argued that public service is a full-time commitment and questioned how Santana balances both roles without compromising the mandate of the GTA. He warned that allowing such conduct to go unchecked undermines accountability in public institutions.

“If he thinks he can eat with both hands for us to keep quiet, that will not happen,” he added, suggesting that Santana might be trying to benefit from both his government position and private media career.

His comments have sparked mixed reactions on social media. While many Ghanaians supported Mark’s stance, insisting that it is unethical for a public servant to engage in private business during working hours, others took a more lenient view. Some argued that Santana might be using the Okay FM platform to promote domestic tourism and that his media presence could be beneficial to the sector.

“I don’t see the problem if he’s promoting tourism. Maybe Mark doesn’t understand the strategy,” one Facebook user commented.

Despite the divided opinions, the core issue remains the accountability of public officials and how state resources and time are utilized. As pressure mounts for a formal response from the Ghana Tourism Authority and its CEO, this story touches on broader questions of integrity and public service ethics in Ghana’s governance system.

For now, Abeiku Santana remains silent on the matter, but the public debate continues to grow.

Leaked Photos of Thumbprinted Ballots Surface on Social Media, Ghanaians Respond

0

Ghana’s Special Voting exercise has come under scrutiny following the circulation of suspicious photos of ballot papers on social media, which allegedly show thumbprinted ballots. The images have raised concerns about the transparency of the process just days before the December 7 general elections, prompting public alarm.

The Special Voting system was designed to allow security forces, electoral officials, and journalists to vote early so they can carry out their duties on election day. While the process began smoothly and was praised for its organization, the appearance of these ballot images has sparked outrage and cast doubt on the integrity of the system.

The photos, reportedly shared by Adom FM’s verified Facebook account, have led to widespread criticism. Many Ghanaians expressed their disappointment over the breach of election protocol, questioning the dedication of some citizens to democratic values.

One frustrated commenter suggested, “Phones should be taken from voters before they cast their ballots,” while another lamented, “It’s sad how people put their personal gain above national interest. How are we still seeing this behavior?”

In Ghana, revealing a vote or any action that undermines vote secrecy is illegal. The leaked images have fueled calls for stricter regulations at polling centers, including phone bans and increased oversight by election officials.

Despite the controversy, the Special Voting process continues nationwide, with overall feedback remaining positive. However, this incident underscores ongoing challenges in Ghana’s democratic process and the need for strict adherence to electoral laws.

With the general elections approaching, electoral stakeholders are under pressure to address these concerns quickly to maintain public trust in the voting process.

0.1% can’t speak for GBA – Appiah Danquah

0

Private legal practitioner and spokesperson for the Movement for Change, Andrew Appiah-Danquah, has criticised the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) over its recent statement opposing the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, calling the move both “preposterous” and unrepresentative of the wider legal community.

Speaking on the matter on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, May 3, Appiah-Danquah questioned the legitimacy of the GBA’s position, arguing that it does not reflect the views of the majority of its members.

“It’s preposterous and very dangerous for 0.1% of a group to go and take a decision and go and say that it is our decision. I am not part of that decision,” he said.

He acknowledged an earlier statement issued by the GBA, which he said was more balanced and appropriate, particularly in its call to uphold the rule of law and promote transparency—principles he fully supports.

“They came out with an earlier decision which I felt was perfect. A call to abide by the rule of law is okay because that’s all of our hope—that we fashion politics or political culture that guarantees us rule of law. The call for transparency is one that I agree with,” he noted.

However, Appiah-Danquah emphasised that any new stance taken by a small, unrepresentative group within the association cannot be imposed as the collective voice of all members.

“But without going into the merit of what they are saying I think it is preposterous for 0.1% to go and take a decision and say that we will all be bound by it,” he said.

Minority Leader, Afenyo-Markin Steps Down

0

In a compelling address that resonates deeply with the current political climate in Ghana, lawmaker Alexander Afenyo-Markin has made a passionate appeal for the nation to transcend cycles of political revenge. He emphasizes the urgent need for constructive governance and national cohesion, drawing on his own life experiences to highlight the importance of unity over personal vendettas.

Afenyo-Markin’s reflections stem from personal hardships rooted in political decisions that have directly affected his family. He recounted the emotional toll of witnessing his stepfather’s demotion and his biological father’s dismissal due to political machinations. These experiences have shaped his perspective and fueled his commitment to a message of reconciliation. “We must prioritize our nation’s future above our individual grievances,” he urged, recognizing that many Ghanaians can relate to similar stories of political marginalization.

The lawmaker’s remarks come at a time when the nation grapples with divisive political sentiments that threaten to hinder progress. He expressed concern over the pervasive culture of retaliation that often overshadows governance, urging fellow citizens to rise above partisan loyalties in favor of a collective approach to national issues. “We have to look beyond our differences and work together for the common good,” he stated, advocating for a shift in focus towards effective governance.

In addition to his call for unity, Afenyo-Markin addressed a particularly contentious issue currently unfolding in the country: the petition to remove Ghana’s Chief Justice. He highlighted procedural inconsistencies in the handling of this sensitive matter, stressing the importance of upholding fairness and due process within national institutions. “For our country to thrive, we must ensure that our institutions operate with impartiality and integrity,” he asserted, reinforcing the need for respect and adherence to legal processes.

The lawmaker’s message has struck a chord with many Ghanaians who are increasingly weary of the entrenched divisiveness that characterizes the political landscape. His appeal for collaboration and fairness offers a glimmer of hope for a more cohesive future, one that prioritizes national interest over personal or political gain.

Afenyo-Markin’s vision for Ghana extends beyond mere rhetoric; it is a call to action for all citizens to embrace a collaborative spirit. He believes that by fostering a culture of unity, Ghana can overcome its challenges and embark on a path of long-term development. This message of hope and collective responsibility serves as a reminder of the potential for positive change when individuals prioritize the common good over personal ambitions.

As the country continues to navigate its complex political landscape, Afenyo-Markin’s candid reflections provide a timely reminder of the power of unity and the importance of constructive governance. His advocacy for a nation built on collaboration, fairness, and integrity offers a hopeful vision for Ghana’s future, one that resonates with citizens eager for change.

In conclusion, Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s appeal is not just a call for reconciliation but a profound reminder of the shared responsibility that all Ghanaians have in shaping the future of their nation. As the political landscape evolves, it is clear that a commitment to unity and constructive governance will be essential in fostering true progress and stability in Ghana.

Ghana captain Jordan Ayew scored his fifth English Premier League goal of the 2024/25 season, helping Leicester City secure a 2-0 victory over Southampton at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

Ghanaian actor and media personality Kwaku Manu has shared new details about the ongoing tension between Ayisha Modi and Stonebwoy. In a video seen by GH Page, Kwaku Manu revealed that Ayisha Modi’s close involvement with the dancehall artist Stonebwoy has had a significant impact on her personal life, particularly her romantic relationship.

According to Kwaku Manu, Ayisha was once in a committed relationship with a wealthy and influential Ghanaian man. However, their relationship began to suffer due to her public behavior, especially her tendency to launch verbal attacks on people in defense of Stonebwoy. This aggressive online conduct reportedly displeased her boyfriend, leading to growing distance between them.

Manu explained that the boyfriend, identified by the nickname Bob Ciga, became increasingly uncomfortable with how Ayisha involved herself in Stonebwoy’s issues. He allegedly contacted Kwaku Manu to intervene and help Ayisha tone down her actions, particularly her habit of insulting others on social media. Despite their combined efforts, they were unable to change Ayisha’s stance.

Kwaku Manu suggested that this unrelenting behavior and her continued allegiance to Stonebwoy ultimately contributed to the end of her relationship. Her refusal to back away from controversial online battles cost her not just her peace but also a valuable connection with someone who once deeply cared for her.

Meet The First Ghanaian MP to Be Jailed for Corruption in Ghana

News Hub Creator1d

In 2007, Dan Abodakpi, then Member of Parliament for Keta and former Minister for Trade and Industry, became the first Ghanaian MP to be jailed for corruption. He was convicted on charges of conspiracy, defrauding by false pretence, and causing financial loss of $400,000 to the state through a shady feasibility study under the Trade and Investment Programme. He received a 10-year prison sentence. His imprisonment sparked political tension. The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), to which he belonged, accused the government of selective justice and boycotted parliamentary proceedings in protest. Nonetheless, the conviction marked a turning point in Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts.

Since then, other public figures have also been prosecuted. Notable examples include Abuga Pele, jailed in 2018 for mismanaging GH¢4.1 million while at GYEEDA, and Eric Amoateng, who served 10 years in a U.S. prison for drug trafficking. Adamu Daramani Sakande, MP for Bawku Central, was jailed in 2012 for perjury related to dual citizenship.

In response to mounting corruption cases, Ghana’s Parliament passed the Criminal Offences Amendment Bill in 2020. The law reclassified corruption from a misdemeanor to a felony, increasing the maximum jail term to 25 years.

Dan Abodakpi’s case set a precedent. While corruption remains a challenge, his conviction helped build momentum for tougher laws and heightened public scrutiny of elected officials.

Former Ghanaian Minister Arrested as $1Million Cash Scandal Shocks the Nation

0

In a dramatic twist, former Ghanaian Sanitation Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah has been arrested following the emergence of new evidence in the investigation into the mysterious disappearance of over $1 million from her residence. The Office of the Special Prosecutor confirmed her detention on Thursday morning, citing fresh discoveries related to the source and handling of the large cash sum.

New Developments Uncovered

Sources close to the probe revealed that forensic audits have uncovered undisclosed funds in offshore accounts linked to the ex-minister. These findings have intensified concerns about possible hidden wealth among top government officials.

A spokesperson from the Special Prosecutor’s office stated that the investigation now extends beyond the original case involving theft by household staff. Suspicious transactions and real estate acquisitions in prime Accra neighborhoods are now under review.

Public Outcry and Political Fallout

The news has sparked national outrage, with citizens demanding greater accountability and stricter anti-corruption efforts. Social media has erupted with debates and disbelief over how such vast sums of money could be stored at home without disclosure.

“This could be just the beginning,” said Kwame Asare, a well-known anti-corruption advocate. “If one minister can keep millions in cash at home, what else is hidden?”

Opposition parties are calling for a thorough audit of assets owned by both former and current officials, accusing the government of enabling deep-rooted corruption.

Through her lawyers, Cecilia Dapaah insists she has done nothing wrong, claiming the funds are from legitimate sources such as savings and business income. However, investigators remain skeptical, citing evidence that contradicts her explanation.

What Comes Next?

Legal experts predict this could become one of Ghana’s most consequential corruption cases, potentially leading to asset seizures if she is convicted. The Special Prosecutor has vowed to pursue the case thoroughly, reaffirming that no one is above the

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested a 32-year-old Ghanaian student, Kwadwo Boaitey Frimpong, in connection with child pornography charges, as shown in footage released by the Trump administration.

The arrest, carried out by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Baltimore on April 29, 2025, marks a significant action in the administration’s immigration enforcement efforts.

Frimpong, who entered the US in 2019 on an F-1 student visa to pursue academic studies, pleaded guilty to seven counts of possession of child pornography.

The charges stemmed from a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) probe initiated in April 2024, following a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about suspected explicit material on Frimpong’s Google account.

A search of his Maryland apartment uncovered a laptop containing over 2,000 images and 100 videos of child sexual abuse material, including content involving infants and toddlers.

On March 13, 2025, Frimpong was sentenced to 24 months in prison, with 12 months credited for time served, and ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to victims. Following his conviction, ICE took him into custody on April 29, 2025, pending deportation proceedings.

“Frimpong will remain in ICE custody pending the outcome of removal proceedings,” a Homeland Security statement posted on X confirmed.

The released footage shows ICE agents apprehending Frimpong.

“I’ve got a warrant for your arrest,” one of the officers is heard informing Frimpong before putting him in handcuffs.

Not One, Not Two People Told Me That If They Didn’t Sleep With Me, I Would Go Nowhere- Actress Bukky

Nollywood actress Bukky Fagbuyi has shared her difficult experiences within the Nigerian film industry, offering a glimpse into the challenges many aspiring actresses face. In a candid interview on Biola Bayo’s TV program according to Punch, Fagbuyi reflected on the emotional toll her journey to success took, highlighting the pervasive issue of sexual harassment in Nollywood.

Fagbuyi described Nollywood as a vibrant space full of creativity and opportunity but one that is deeply marred by inappropriate behavior and abuse of power. She spoke of the harsh realities for women trying to make a name for themselves in the industry, particularly the pressure to conform to certain societal expectations regarding relationships and marriage.

She shared how, early in her career, she was confronted by industry figures who made her professional success contingent on personal favors. “Not one, not two people told me that if they didn’t have their way with me or date me, I would go nowhere,” she revealed, highlighting the disturbing extent to which some individuals in power exploit their positions.

Despite facing such pressure, Fagbuyi chose to stand by her values, even though it meant risking career opportunities. Her decision to maintain her integrity, rather than succumbing to the industry’s exploitative demands, underscores the tough choices many women in Nollywood must make.

In addition to discussing her personal challenges, Fagbuyi offered advice to women, encouraging them to resist societal pressure to marry out of fear or desperation. She emphasized the importance of waiting patiently and praying for the right relationship, underscoring the value of peace of mind over external expectations.

Fagbuyi’s powerful account adds to the growing conversation about the need for change within Nollywood, shedding light on the harsh realities faced by women in the entertainment industry.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah remains one of Africa’s most iconic figures—a visionary, revolutionary, and the first President of Ghana. While his name is widely recognized across the globe, few know the story behind his original name and the transformation that shaped his identity as a leader.

Kwame Nkrumah was born on 21st September 1909 in Nkroful, a small village in the Western Region of what was then the Gold Coast (now Ghana). At birth, he was named Francis Nwia Kofi Ngonloma. His given names reflect both Christian influence (“Francis”) and his Ghanaian heritage (“Nwia Kofi”—with Kofi signifying that he was born on a Friday).

His surname, Ngonloma, was his family name inherited from his father’s lineage.

The Transformation to “Kwame Nkrumah”

While studying in the United States in the 1930s and 1940s, Nkrumah began to reshape his identity as he immersed himself in Pan-Africanist thought and anti-colonial activism. It was during this period of ideological awakening that he adopted the name Kwame Nkrumah.

“Kwame” is another Akan name traditionally given to a male born on a Saturday. Some sources suggest that he adopted this name either to reflect a spiritual rebirth or as a symbolic gesture aligning with traditional Ghanaian roots and national identity.

“Nkrumah” is believed to be derived from his maternal ancestry or selected to signify a new identity distinct from colonial influences.

Historical Significance:

The name change marked more than a personal choice; it was a political statement. As Nkrumah prepared to lead the fight for independence, he deliberately cast off his European first name and adopted a more authentically African identity. This transformation echoed the broader message of African self-determination, cultural pride, and resistance to colonialism.

In official documents and during his political career, he was always referred to as Kwame Nkrumah, and it is under this name that he declared Ghana’s independence on March 6, 1957, becoming the nation’s first Prime Minister and later President.

Today, the name Kwame Nkrumah resonates far beyond Ghana. It symbolizes not only Ghanaian independence but also the larger struggle for liberation across Africa. Statues, universities, and streets across the continent bear his name—solidifying his legacy as the man who changed history, beginning with the power of a name.

Conclusion

The evolution from Francis Nwia Kofi Ngonloma to Kwame Nkrumah illustrates a journey of cultural reclamation and political revolution. More than a name change, it was a bold declaration of purpose that helped reshape the destiny of a continent.

Chief Justice Finally Appears Before Council Of State, Begs For Mercy As Nana Addo Cautions Her

0

Ghana’s Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, appeared before the Council of State on April 30, 2025, to address three petitions alleging misconduct, corruption, and incompetence, following her suspension by President John Mahama on April 22, 2025, as reported by Adomonline.com and GBC Ghana Online.

The petitions, backed by 30 of 31 Council members, established a prima facie case, prompting a five-member committee to investigate under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution. During the closed-door session, Torkornoo reportedly begged for mercy, offering to repay funds flagged in a 2024 Auditor-General’s report for unauthorized expenditures, including $20,000 and GH¢6 billion tied to lavish trips across 16 cities, according to Asaase Radio’s May 1, 2025, broadcast. Former President Nana Akufo-Addo cautioned her against undermining judicial integrity, while National Security Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah labeled her actions a “threat to national security,” echoing his 2023 warning about judicial bias. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) alleges political motives, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) defends the process as a step toward judicial reform.

The petitions, whose contents remain partially undisclosed, cite corruption, misbehavior, and incompetence, with the Auditor-General’s report providing key evidence. The report, discussed on Joy FM’s Newsfile on May 2, 2025, detailed Torkornoo’s alleged misuse of public funds, including $20,000 and GH¢6 billion (approximately $400 million at 2025 exchange rates) for international travel, business-class flights, and accommodations without due process. Critics, including NDC’s Sammy Gyamfi, questioned her offer to repay, arguing it implies guilt. “If she followed due process, why volunteer to pay? It’s an admission of unclean hands handling holy issues,” Gyamfi said, per Adomonline.com. The report also flagged irregular payments to court staff and unapproved contracts, raising concerns about systemic corruption within the Judicial Service.

Kan-Dapaah, in a May 1, 2025, cabinet meeting cited by GhanaWeb, reiterated that judicial partiality evident in Torkornoo’s tenure, dubbed the “Unanimous FC” for rulings favoring the Akufo-Addo government, poses a national security threat. He referenced cases like the 2024 ruling against the Speaker’s declaration of four MPs’ seats vacant, seen as pro-NPP.

Walaahi! I am not sorry for any policy NPP implemented, John Mahama cannot match it – Mustapha Abdul-Hamid

Leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former CEO of the National Petroleum Authority, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has expressed unwavering confidence in the party’s achievements despite their defeat in the 2024 general election.

Speaking during the NPP’s ongoing Thank You Tour, Dr Abdul-Hamid urged party members not to be disheartened by the loss, emphasizing that the party’s ambitious goal to “Break the 8”, a slogan aimed at securing a third consecutive term and breaking Ghana’s eight-year political duopoly between the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC)—was a bold attempt to achieve the unprecedented.

“Tell yourself the truth, why were you saying ‘Break the 8’? Because you knew it has never happened before. You were trying to do the impossible,” Dr Abdul-Hamid said.

He argued that the party should not be hard on itself for failing to accomplish what he described as a formidable challenge, especially since no first-time presidential candidate has ever won an election in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

The NPP’s candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, lost to the NDC’s John Mahama, who secured 6,328,397 votes (56.55%) against Bawumia’s 4,657,304 (41.61%) on December 7, 2024, as declared by the Electoral Commission.

Dr Abdul-Hamid dismissed feelings of regret or blame within the party, stating, “Walaahi, I am not beating myself, I understand it. I am not upset, and I don’t think anybody is responsible for anything.”

Quoting Bob Marley, he added, “He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day. In our case, we didn’t fight and run away, we fought, and we are here, and we are fighting again.”

He contrasted his stance with other party leaders who have taken a more apologetic tone, noting, “The general secretary and others are nice guys, but I am not a very nice guy. They might say they are sorry, but walaahi, I am not sorry about anything.”

He expressed strong pride in the NPP’s record, asserting that no policy implemented by the party warrants regret.

“We did our best for this country, and there is nothing that John Mahama will do that will match up to what we have done. Nothing, walaahi, nothing,” Dr Abdul-Hamid declared.

He criticized the current NDC administration under President Mahama, pointing to what he described as chaotic governance, including frequent changes in appointments.

“Look, already see what is going on in governance. They appoint a chief executive one day, replace them the next,” he remarked, citing instability in leadership at institutions like the Tema Oil Refinery.

Dr Abdul-Hamid’s comments come as the NPP reflects on its electoral loss, which saw the NDC not only win the presidency but also secure a historic parliamentary majority with 183 seats compared to the NPP’s 88.

The party’s defeat has been attributed to voter dissatisfaction with issues such as the rising cost of living, corruption allegations, and a debt crisis, which Dr Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer himself, acknowledged stemmed from the party’s failure to listen to Ghanaians and address concerns like the e-levy and haircut policies.

Despite this, Dr Abdul-Hamid remains defiant, urging party members to stay united and prepare for future battles, drawing on his experience as an opposition member since 1991-92 to emphasize resilience.

The Thank You Tour is part of the NPP’s efforts to regroup and rebuild following the 2024 election loss.

Ibrahim Mahama offers to help SDA SHS student shot in eye following passionate appeal

Ibrahim Mahama has offered to cover all of Suzzy's medical expenses Ibrahim Mahama has offered to cover all of Suzzy’s medical expenses

Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has pledged to cover all medical expenses for Suzzy Pinaman, a second-year student at Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, Ashanti Region, who was shot in the eye by a classmate.

The commitment comes after Suzzy made a heartfelt appeal to Ibrahim Mahama and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong for assistance to fund her treatment.

On April 4, 2025, during a school break, Suzzy sustained a critical gunshot wound to her forehead when a fellow student, Bernard Amoabeng, allegedly discharged a firearm during an argument about its functionality.

The incident left Suzzy visually impaired, with residual bullet fragments in her eye causing severe pain and preventing her from sleeping or closing her eyes.

Unable to attend school and with her family struggling to afford treatment, Suzzy publicly appealed for help in a video, stating, “Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and Ibrahim Mahama, I am pleading with you to hear my cry and come to my aid. I have no one.”

Following the viral appeal, Ibrahim Mahama, through his aide Rafik Mahama, announced his support.

In a Facebook post, Rafik confirmed that Ibrahim Mahama would fund Suzzy’s medical expenses, both locally and internationally if needed.

“Suzzy will be in Accra on Monday to begin the surgery process. Speedy recovery, Suzzy,” Rafik wrote.

The family according to GhPage which spoke to Suzzy, is expected to arrive in Accra on May 5, 2025, to commence treatment at Dr Agarwals Eye Clinic.

Suzzy was initially rushed to Kwadaso Hospital and later transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for emergency surgery to remove the bullets.

Despite efforts, her condition remains severe, prompting plans to fly her abroad for specialized treatment.

Why is Abeiku Santana still on Okay FM during office hours? – Okraku Mantey raises concern

Mark Okraku Mantey has accused Abeiku Santana of breaching Public Service laws Mark Okraku Mantey has accused Abeiku Santana of breaching Public Service laws

Former Deputy Minister for Tourism, Mark Okraku Mantey, has accused Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, known as “Abeiku Santana,” the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, of breaching Public Services Commission regulations.

Commenting on the appointment of media practitioners to various positions by the John Dramani Mahama government in a recent Joy FM interview, Okraku Mantey criticized Abeiku Santana for continuing his media practice during public office hours.

“Why is Abeiku Santana going on air, holding a public office, and still working at Okay FM?” he questioned.

“Abeiku Santana works for the Ghana Tourism Authority, a public office, and is using office hours to work at Okay FM. It’s not acceptable. It’s not,” Okraku Mantey added.

He further argued that, contrary to popular belief, the media in Ghana is not necessarily neutral, particularly toward the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which lost power in the 2024 general election.

“When they were bashing us, I kept telling my NPP colleagues that the media today is not as neutral as they make us believe. You see media people taking positions? Yet, when they were on air, they claimed to be neutral,” he said.

Citing the example of NPP MP for Ofoase-Ayerebi, Okraku Mantey noted that, in contrast to current trends, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah left the media long before entering politics.

“Someone might mention Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, but Honourable Oppong Nkrumah left Joy FM years ago, stayed home, ran his private business, and only then entered politics. But today, you see people leaving media houses and immediately taking up positions,” he said.

Barker-Vormawor rallies GBA members to overturn resolution demanding reversal of CJ suspension

Convener of the Fix The Country Movement and a member of GBA, Oliver Barker-Vormawor Convener of the Fix The Country Movement and a member of GBA, Oliver Barker-Vormawor

Convener of the Fix The Country Movement and a member of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Oliver Barker-Vormawor has called on fellow GBA members to convene a special general assembly to reverse the Association’s recent resolution challenging President John Dramani Mahama’s suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo.

Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints on May 3, 2025, Barker-Vormawor labeled the resolution as politically driven and a threat to judicial independence.

He criticized the resolution as lacking legal merit, describing it as “an appeal cloaked in impropriety” that fails to meet the standards of a legitimate challenge.

Barker-Vormawor argued that the GBA’s stance disregards established Supreme Court precedent and risks being misinterpreted internationally and domestically as an attack on the judiciary’s autonomy. “History will not forgive us if we let this slide,” he warned, urging members to act swiftly to overturn what he called a reckless move.

Barker-Vormawor emphasized that constitutional interpretation must remain rooted in legal doctrine, not political sentiment, accusing the GBA of injecting politics into a matter of law.

He insisted that the resolution’s wording dangerously implies misconduct by the President, despite clear legal precedent supporting the suspension process.

Echoing similar sentiments, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, CEO of the National Petroleum Authority, accused the GBA of “manifest hypocrisy” in its commentary on judicial matters.

Edudzi Tameklo highlighted inconsistencies in the GBA’s stance, noting that the Association had criticized President Mahama’s judicial appointments in 2023 under then-Chief Justice Nene Amegatcher but remained silent on similar actions under other administrations.

He referenced the 2023 appointment of Justices Yaw Appau and Gabriel Pwamang to the Supreme Court, where Mahama selected the second- and fourth-ranked candidates recommended by the Judicial Council, prompting strong GBA objections and a Supreme Court challenge.

“How come the bar is only vocal when President Mahama is the one acting?” Tameklo questioned, calling for fairness in the GBA’s approach. He argued that the Association’s current resolution contradicts its earlier position and undermines democratic principles.

Barker-Vormawor’s call for a special assembly aims to realign the GBA’s actions with legal integrity, urging members to reject the resolution and uphold the judiciary’s independence.

Interim coach of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito, has urged his team to remain focused ahead of their clash with Hearts of Oak.

The Porcupine Warriors will face their fiercest rivals at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, May 4, as part of Matchday 30 in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.

Kotoko have secured four consecutive victories against the Phobian Club in all competitions.

Speaking ahead of the match, Zito emphasized the need for his team to stay focused to continue their strong run against their archrivals.

“We are going in with the mentality of winning. They [Hearts of Oak] know very well that they’ve lost to Kotoko for some time, so I think they will double their efforts,” he said.

“What we have to keep in mind is that, despite the favorable results in the last four matches, we still need to stay focused and maintain a good attitude toward our objective to secure the result,” Zito added.

The highly anticipated game is scheduled to kick off at 15:00 GMT.
