A trader, Constance Gyasi Nimako, has been remanded into custody by an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing and laundering money mistakenly credited to her bank account.
Nimako, also known as Maa Adwoa, is alleged to have spent GH¢770,500 out of GH¢800,000 that was erroneously transferred to her bank account at Ecobank.
She reportedly transferred GH¢300,000 of the amount to her mother’s account at Fidelity Bank and GH¢400,000 to her own account at GCB Bank, and withdrew GH¢70,500 in cash.
She has been charged with stealing and money laundering, while her mother, Cecilia Gyasi, has been charged with abetment of crime to wit money laundering. The two pleaded not guilty.
Presiding Judge, Mrs Susan Eduful, after listening to arguments from both the prosecution and defence, remanded Nimako due to the grave nature of the charge and concerns that she might not appear to stand trial.
Her mother, Cecilia Gyasi was, however, granted bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties, who must be immediate family members earning not less than GH¢2,000 monthly.
The case has been adjourned to July 7, 2025.
The complainant, the prosecution said, was the chief executive officer of a company (name withheld), which holds a bank account with Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) and a personal account with Ecobank Ghana.
On February 4, 2025, the complainant instructed the Manet Branch of CBG to transfer GH¢800,000 from the company’s CBG account to his personal Ecobank account for a business transaction.
However, in executing the transfer, the complainant mistakenly quoted Nimako’s Ecobank account number instead of his own.
The funds were erroneously transferred into Nimako’s account on February 6, 2025.
The error came to light when the complainant followed up with CBG about the delay in the expected transfer.
Upon discovering the mistake, CBG contacted Ecobank to recall the funds, only to learn that by February 11, Nimako had already moved the money, leaving only GH¢29,778.47 in the account.
Efforts by both banks to retrieve the money proved futile as she refused to return the funds.
The Head of Security and Investigations at CBG subsequently assisted the complainant to report the matter to the police.
The prosecution said when contacted by the police, Nimako refused to cooperate, rained insults and curses on the officers, and went into hiding.
She was later arrested in Kumasi, while her mother, Gyasi, was arrested in Accra.
Investigations revealed that Nimako informed her mother about the money and instructed her to withdraw the GH¢300,000 transferred into her account, which she did.
During interrogation, Nimako claimed the money was sent to her by a foreign company with whom she had no prior dealings.
She further claimed she had ordered goods with the funds and was awaiting their delivery.
Prosecution indicated that investigations are ongoing to trace and recover the remaining amount.
Following the recent U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, tensions between the two countries have continued to grow. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave a serious warning to Iran, saying that any act of revenge would be a big mistake. His warning came as Iran’s foreign minister prepared for a visit to Russia, which may point to even more trouble ahead.
Rubio, speaking on television, explained that the U.S. military carried out the strikes with great accuracy and faced no resistance. He pointed out that American planes entered and exited Iranian airspace without being detected in time. According to him, this showed the strength and advanced capabilities of the U.S. military.
“We went in last night after the President sent the military in; at halfway across the world, we went in and conducted this operation. Not a shot was fired against us; they didn’t even know what had happened by the time we left, the planes out of their airspace before they started realizing that they have been hit,” he said.
He made it clear that while the United States does not want a full-scale war with Iran, they are ready to defend themselves. Rubio said that if Iran chooses to respond with violence, the U.S. has even greater weapons and strategies it hasn’t used yet. He explained that the goal is not war, but protection and prevention of nuclear threats.
Rubio also explained what the U.S. hopes to achieve with Iran. The U.S. is against Iran having nuclear weapons but is open to allowing a peaceful nuclear energy program, similar to what other countries use. He said the U.S. had made fair offers to Iran, but Iran ignored these efforts and refused to cooperate.
He blamed Iran for not choosing peace and for avoiding diplomatic talks. According to Rubio, the U.S. waited patiently for Iran to respond, but after being ignored, the President decided that action had to be taken. The result was the military operation targeting Iran’s nuclear sites.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reacted strongly, accusing the U.S. and Israel of crossing a serious red line. He announced plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which could lead to even greater involvement by Russia. Iran may now be looking for stronger allies, and this move suggests that the conflict could spread beyond the Middle East if more countries become involved.

NPP Flagbearer hopeful, Bryan Acheampong addressing some former MMDCEs
Former Minister for Agriculture and New Patriotic Party(NPP) Flagbearer hopeful, Bryan Acheampong, has urged all former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), to commit themselves fully support his campaign agenda, assuring them of shared glory should he win the flagbearer contest.
Speaking at an engagement with party members in a video shared on social media, Acheampong delivered a rousing call to unity and loyalty within the NPP, emphasizing that the path to power must be a collective effort—and the rewards a collective benefit.
“I will not win, we will win the power together,” Acheampong declared. “And if there are any spoils, we will share them for the benefit of our party and our country.”
He continued, warning that the contributions, or lack thereof of former MMDCEs will not go unnoticed:
“If you do it, we will hear. If you don’t do it, we will hear it too.”
Acheampong made it clear that loyalty and performance would not go unrewarded or ignored. Reaffirming his leadership style, he stated: “Me, I don’t leave my men behind.”
The Member of Parliament for Abetifi also acknowledged the symbolic significance of the NPP’s current presidential candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, saying that if he, Bryan, were to emerge victorious in internal party elections, it would be Bawumia who would “hand over today as flagbearer”—and that such a handover would indeed happen.
“If I win it is Bawumia the flagbearer who will hand over today as flagbearer, and handing over he will, Bryan Acheampong said.
Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana EXIMBANK, Sylvester Mensah, has praised the just-ended Channel One TV AgriFair, describing it as a powerful and practical platform for empowering small businesses, startups, and agricultural innovators.
Speaking to Eno Safo on Channel One Newsroom, Mr. Mensah shared his excitement about the overwhelming response from both vendors and patrons, highlighting that many exhibitors had sold out their products and were already asking about future editions of the event.
“I’m so impressed by the fact that visitors are asking for more, and the vendors are saying they’ve sold more than expected. Some have even run out of stock and are planning to restock. There’s already interest in when the next exhibition will be held,” he said.
While acknowledging that several exhibitions have been organised this year, Mr. Mensah emphasised that the Channel One AgriFair stood out because it delivered real business value for participants.
“On the face of it, it may seem like we’ve had many exhibitions this year. But to the vendors and exhibitors, this event has offered a rare and valuable opportunity to market and sell their produce,” he explained.
He also extended commendation to Citi FM, Channel One TV, and their Managing Director, Samuel Atta-Mensah, for the vision and execution behind the AgriFair, crediting their leadership for the event’s success.
“It is through his leadership that this impactful programme has taken place,” he added.
Mr. Mensah further reiterated Ghana EXIMBANK’s commitment to supporting such initiatives that align with its mandate to promote local enterprise.
“At EXIMBANK, we’re always ready to support and sponsor initiatives like this. They fall right within our mandate to promote local businesses. So any time Citi FM and Channel One TV have an idea, involve us from the planning stage—we’ll be there to support and bring in more partners to make it a success.”
The Channel One AgriFair has been widely hailed as a standout event in Ghana’s agribusiness calendar, creating direct market linkages for young entrepreneurs and offering a vibrant showcase of innovation across the agricultural value chain.
The Zongo Youth Movement, a Muslim advocacy group, has issued a strong caution to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, urging him to keep his campaign away from Zongo and Muslim communities following controversial remarks attributed to a member of his campaign team.
The group is calling for a formal apology to the Muslim community and Ghanaians at large, emphasising that political campaigns must not undermine national unity or religious coexistence.
The concern stems from comments allegedly made by Dr. Stephen Amoah, popularly known as Sticka, suggesting that the NPP lost the 2024 elections due to the Islamic faith of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking to Citi News, Public Relations Officer of the Zongo Youth Movement, Abdullai Ali, condemned the remarks as divisive and contrary to Ghana’s legacy of religious tolerance. He demanded a public apology from both Dr. Amoah and Kennedy Agyapong.
“It is not unfair to associate these remarks with Kennedy Agyapong’s camp. After the comments were made, no one from his team came forward to disown or condemn them. In fact, some members defended the claim on TV and radio using misleading data,” he stated.
Ali added that a clear dissociation by Agyapong from Dr. Amoah’s comments would have shifted accountability. “If Kennedy Agyapong had issued a statement distancing himself from the remarks, we would have focused only on Dr. Amoah. But the silence from his camp speaks volumes.”

A Tunisian court on Friday handed down a 22‑year prison sentence in absentia to former President Moncef Marzouki, a fierce critic of President Kais Saied, on charges of undermining state security, raising the opposition’s fears of an escalating crackdown against critics.
Marzouki, who was president from 2011 to 2014, accuses Saied of establishing an authoritarian regime after dismissing parliament and ruling by decree since he seized almost all powers in 2011.
Saied defends his actions as necessary steps to stabilise Tunisia.
This is the third ruling against Marzouki, after a court ruled last year to imprison him for eight years and four years before that in various other cases.
Commenting on the ruling, Marzouki said from his exile in Paris: “I say to these judges: your rulings are invalid, and you are invalid … you will be tried soon”.
“Democracy will return”, he added.
Earlier on Friday, another court sentenced Sahbi Atig, a senior official in Ennahda, the country’s main opposition party, to 15 years in prison on charges of money laundering, his lawyer said.
The 15-year sentence was shorter than some sentences handed down recently. In April, a court sentenced a string of opposition leaders, businessmen and lawyers to prison terms of up to 66 years, on conspiracy charges.
Most of the leaders of political parties in Tunisia are in prison, including Abir Moussi, leader of the Free Constitutional Party, and Rached Ghannouchi, the head of Ennahda – two of Saied’s most prominent opponents.

Accra-based businessman and auto dealer, Horic Ampofo, has extended a generous act of kindness to an elderly man who had been volunteering as a sweeper along the Ayi Mensah-Peduase stretch.
Mr. Ampofo, who first encountered the elderly citizen earlier this year while commuting along the route, had initially pledged to support him with a monthly allowance of GH¢1,000 in appreciation of his dedication to keeping the area clean.
However, in a recent interaction, the elderly man humbly requested a one-time lump sum to enable him to start a small business and secure a more sustainable livelihood.
Moved by his determination and entrepreneurial spirit, Mr. Ampofo fulfilled the request by donating a lump sum of GH¢15,000. The donation is expected to support the elderly volunteer in setting up his own business and gaining financial independence.
Netizens have applauded Mr Ampofo, for his gesture and have called on others to support such public spirited people who contribute quietly to the well-being of their communities.

The Acting Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Abiba Zakariah, has called on insurance companies in Ghana to design inclusive products that serve all demographics, especially those in the informal sector.
Speaking at the inauguration of the newly constructed Insurance House in Kanda, Accra, Dr Zakariah emphasised the pivotal role of insurance in national development.
“The insurance industry must rise to the task. We cannot build a resilient financial sector without including the majority of our working population, market women, farmers, artisans, who remain largely uninsured,” she said.
Dr Zakariah, who served as Guest Speaker, stressed that insurance should be made accessible to all segments of society.
“No one should be left behind in terms of financial protection, inclusion, and security. The collective effort that brought this building to life must now reflect in how we serve the public,” she added.
The President of the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) and Managing Director of Ghana Re PLC, Seth Aklasi, hailed the project as a landmark achievement for the industry.
“The Insurance House is more than a building, it’s a symbol of unity, resilience, and progress. It stands as a fiscal commitment to the growth and transformation of our sector,” Aklasi stated.
He described the facility as a hub where “ideas will flourish, partnerships will be forged, and the relevance of insurance will be elevated as a national priority.”
Also speaking at the ceremony, Benjamin Yamoah, Chairman of the Ghana National Bureau of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme and Managing Director of Activa International Insurance, lauded the vision behind bringing insurance institutions under one roof.
“This is not just a space for administrative work, it should become a space of real transformation. The energy in this building must translate into action,” he urged.
The three-storey, ultra-modern facility with a basement, located in Kanda, was designed and constructed by Spektra Global, a prominent Ghanaian architectural and construction firm.
Company representatives gave a brief history of the project, highlighting the challenges and milestones along the way.
Additionally, Goodwill messages were delivered by Presidents and Representatives of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG), the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG), the Actuarialy Society of Ghana (ASG), the West Africa Insurance Companies Association (WAICA), and the Ghana Insurance College (GIC).
The dedication of the facility was performed by the immediate past Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana, Most Rev. Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo.
Special recognition plaques were awarded to past GIA presidents and key figures who played instrumental roles in realizing the dream of Insurance House. These included Nana Agyei Duku, Max Kobina, Wilson Tei, Emmanuel Mahama Baba, and others.
Notable guests at the event included former Commissioners of Insurance, Josephine Jennifer Amoah and Prof. Dr Justice Yaw Ofori, as well as the MCE and Assembly Members of Ayawaso East Constituency, and Godfred Abulbire, General Secretary of the GPRTU.
The historic event was moderated by the NIC’s Head of Public Relations, Mawuli Zogbenu, who kept the program lively and informative.
Inaki Williams blasted the people behind the erasing of his brother’s image from a mural
Ghana forward Inaki Williams has blasted the people behind the erasing of his brother’s image from a mural painted to celebrate the team following their Copa del Rey success in the 2023/24 season.
Williams’ junior brother, Nico, has been linked with a move to Barcelona leaving some fans of Athletic Bilbao fuming as one of their priced asset is set for the exit.
With photos of the mural without Nico going viral, Williams took to social media to slam the unidentified persons.
He wrote: “Behind an anonymous lack of respect, there is always someone too small to show their face.”
The club also took a strong stance in defending Nico Williams, expressing their displeasure to the act of cleaning the player’s image.
“The dignity of a club is also reflected in the way it protects its own. That’s why those who erased Nico’s image from the mural by artist Carlos López in Barakaldo don’t represent Athletic Club. And if they think they’re part of this family, they should know they’re wrong: disrespecting one of our own is disrespecting Athletic Club itself,” wrote Bilbao on their website.
Nico has been an outstanding player for Bilbao since bursting onto the scene few seasons ago, playing a pivotal role as the Rojiblancos secured a UEFA Champions League spot for next season.
His performances for the club has seen him attract interest from several clubs including Bayern Munich of Germany and England’s Arsenal.
However, the 22-year-old fancies a move to Barcelona as he continues his career in La Liga.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are NBA champions for the first time in franchise history since relocating from Seattle, following a 103-91 victory over the Indiana Pacers in Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Sunday, June 22.
Led by league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who delivered a standout performance with 29 points and 12 assists, the Thunder closed out the series at home in front of a roaring crowd at the Paycom Center.
Indiana’s title hopes took a devastating hit early in the game after star point guard Tyrese Haliburton exited in the first quarter with an Achilles injury. Without their floor general, the Pacers struggled to maintain momentum, especially against Oklahoma City’s relentless second-half defense.
Despite the absence of big-name superstars, the Finals matchup between the small-market Thunder and Pacers captured fans’ attention with grit, heart, and high-stakes drama. Indiana, the surprise Eastern Conference champions, pushed the NBA’s best regular-season team to a decisive Game 7, capping off a thrilling postseason run.
The win marks a historic moment for Oklahoma City, which had not won an NBA title since the franchise’s days as the Seattle SuperSonics. It is also a career-defining triumph for Gilgeous-Alexander, who now adds “NBA Champion” to his MVP season accolades.
Outspoken politician and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, has assured Ghanaians that he will no longer allow provocations to derail his focus.
He stated emphatically that his political maturity and leadership vision are now firmly rooted in calmness and strategic thinking.
Addressing a group of party members—reportedly delegates—in a video shared on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), the former Assin Central Member of Parliament said that while his political opponents often make it their mission to provoke him into anger, he is no longer falling for such tactics.
“They deliberately speak to provoke me to anger so that I will go ballistic, but that will not happen,” he asserted. “We now know how to cure their mischief. They don’t have anything to say to bring me down. All they ever say is that ‘as for Ken Agyapong, he easily gets angry,’ but I will not be provoked.”
Known for his fiery personality and blunt rhetoric, Agyapong acknowledged that he has previously been criticized for his temper, but insists those days are behind him.
“You will not hear me throwing tantrums. That will not happen. Even if someone speaks ill of me deliberately to provoke me, I will not respond—because I have turned a deaf ear.”
The maverick politician, who has built a successful business empire in media, real estate, and agriculture, redirected the focus of his comments toward national development and economic empowerment.
He emphasized that what the country needs now is not mere talk, but actionable ideas that will translate into jobs and economic stability.
“What we are looking for is someone who has ideas,” Agyapong said. “If I can create employment as a private individual, imagine what I can do as president.”
Agyapong’s remarks have sparked conversations among political watchers, many of whom view his recent posture as a strategic recalibration aimed at positioning himself for future national leadership.

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with a burglary and theft incident at Kasoa Nyanyano in the Central Region.
The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Abubakar Sadiq, was captured on a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) camera during the burglary.
He was subsequently arrested on June 16, 2025, from his hideout at Agbogbloshie, a suburb of Accra, wearing the same attire he used during the operation.
A press release copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Saturday said preliminary investigations revealed that Sadiq stole an iPhone 14 Pro Max, valued at GH¢9,000, a Barclays Bank ATM card, a UK driver’s license, and a cash amount of £2,000.
Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted to the offence and disclosed that he sold the iPhone 14 Pro Max to an unknown buyer at Agbogbloshie for GH¢2,000.
Police say Sadiq is currently in custody, assisting with investigations and will be arraigned.

Geremi Njitap has been banned from all football-related activities for five years
Cameroonian football icon Geremi Njitap has been banned from all football-related activities for five years by the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), following a disciplinary standoff with the body’s president, Samuel Eto’o.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid defender was also handed a fine of 10 million CFA francs (approximately $16,500), in a move that has intensified the growing rift between two of the nation’s most prominent former players.
According to a statement from FECAFOOT’s ethics committee, Geremi was found guilty of breaching the federation’s behavioural code.
The sanction stems from an incident at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, where Geremi reportedly clashed with a member of Eto’o’s camp during Cameroon’s group match against The Gambia. He was allegedly ejected from the stadium by security on the orders of federation officials.
Geremi, now 46, enjoyed a decorated career with 118 caps for the Indomitable Lions, and won league titles with Chelsea and Real Madrid. Since retirement, he has led Synafoc, the union representing Cameroonian footballers.
He has 10 days to appeal the decision and is reportedly considering taking the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has assured Ghanaians that the country has enough fuel reserves to last beyond two months, despite ongoing global uncertainties.
Speaking during a briefing with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy at Senchi on Saturday, Mr. Tameklo disclosed that Ghana currently has over 200 million litres of petrol and 150 million litres of diesel in reserve.
“I can assure the good people of Ghana that we have enough stock to last us beyond two months, and with all the ongoing efforts, we are confident that there will be no supply disruptions,” he stated.
He further indicated that vessels loaded with petroleum products were already in Ghanaian waters and that Nigeria’s Dangote refinery was producing substantial volumes of petrol and diesel, which would further support national demand.
The 17-member Energy Committee, chaired by Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, is on a sector-wide engagement to assess the operations, challenges, and plans of key players in the energy industry.
Addressing concerns about the GH₵1 fuel levy, Mr. Tameklo noted that the Ministry of Finance and the Ghana Revenue Authority were closely monitoring global developments before making a decision.
He explained that the government was assessing the potential impact of the Israel-Iran conflict, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz—a critical global shipping route.
“At this stage, there is no significant disruption in the Strait of Hormuz. We are confident that if conditions remain stable, the government will communicate a decision on the levy’s implementation soon,” he added.
Mr. Tameklo clarified that initial plans to roll out the policy on June 16, 2025, were delayed due to consultations with stakeholders, including the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors, and a last-minute intervention by the Minister of Finance.
He emphasised that the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies would also be engaged before the policy is rolled out to ensure transparency and consensus.
Responding to calls by the Minority in Parliament for the repeal of the Energy Sector Levies Act (ESLA), Mr. Tameklo said the demand lacked a viable alternative to fund essential liquid fuel supplies.
“We still need liquid fuel to keep our lights on. If the Minority has a workable alternative, I believe President John Dramani Mahama—a listening president—would consider it,” he said.
He emphasised that the President was committed to ensuring energy stability, noting that recent interventions, including efforts to stabilise the exchange rate, had already resulted in a GH₵4 drop in petroleum prices—a direct benefit to consumers.
On the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, Mr. Tameklo maintained that while initial tensions were high, global diplomatic efforts were underway to de-escalate the situation.
“It’s early days yet, but the major powers involved in global diplomacy are engaging the key actors. There is optimism that negotiations will prevail,” he said.
Mr. Tameklo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining a stable fuel supply, controlling prices, and keeping industries and homes powered as the country continues to monitor international developments.
Wydad AC in blue black jersey were beaten 4-1 by Juventus
Wydad AC’s hopes of progressing in the FIFA Club World Cup suffered a major blow after a 4-1 defeat to Juventus at Lincoln Financial Field, leaving them on the verge of an early exit from the tournament.
After falling 2-0 to Manchester City in their opening game, the Moroccan giants were desperate for a response, but it was Juventus who dominated early on.
Despite gaining some momentum before the break, Wydad couldn’t hold off the Italians in the second half. Yıldız completed his brace with a composed finish after being played through by Randal Kolo Muani, and DuÅ¡an Vlahović sealed the win with a late penalty.
Now bottom of Group G with no points, Wydad need Al Ain to pull off a shock win over Manchester City to keep their slim knockout hopes alive. Otherwise, they’ll bow out at the group stage.
Hakainde Hichilema (L) defeated Edgar Lungu (R) in the 2021 presidential election – the third time they had faced each other at the polls
The personal has become very political in Zambia.
Mourning and the build-up to a funeral is never an easy time, but throw in the fallout from a long-standing feud between the country’s two top politicians – President Hakainde Hichilema and his now-late predecessor Edgar Lungu – and you have an explosive mix.
The animosity was such that Lungu’s family said one of his dying wishes was that Hichilema should not go anywhere near his body.
The row has scuppered government plans to honour the former head of state, created a distressing rift in the country and left people wondering how things got this bad.
Sunday was supposed to see the state funeral for the 68-year-old who governed for six years from 2015. But there will be no visiting dignitaries and the venue – a huge conference centre in the heart of the capital, Lusaka – will lie empty.
There was already a hint of possible trouble ahead immediately after Lungu’s death on 5 June, in the video message shared by his daughter on Facebook.
Dressed in a thick, black jacket and holding back tears, Tasila Lungu said that her father had died in a hospital in South Africa where he was being treated with “dignity and privacy”.
A memorial service has already been held by Lungu’s Patriotic Front party in South Africa – attended by his family, including his widow
She rounded off the one-minute announcement saying that “in this moment of grief, we invoke the spirit of ‘One Zambia, One Nation’ – the timeless creed that guided President Lungu’s service to our country”.
To highlight the need for unity at a time when tradition suggested that the nation should naturally come together was a clue that all was not well.
And there was another issue: where was the president’s announcement?
Ms Lungu’s statement confirmed social media rumours of her father’s death, condolence messages were already being sent, including from Kenya’s president, but there was no word from Hichilema.
While independent outlets were reporting the news, the national broadcaster, ZNBC, remained silent.
Then, three hours after the daughter’s post, Zambia’s head of state shared his thoughts in a text post on Facebook. He made his own appeal for unity, asking people to “uphold the values of peace, dignity and togetherness that define us as Zambians”.
Information Minister Cornelius Mweetwa dismissed concerns about the delay in Hichilema talking about the death. He told the BBC that, based on precedent, it was not the head of state’s role to be the first to announce the passing of a predecessor.
Nevertheless, Lungu’s supporters felt that Hichilema’s message of “togetherness” rang hollow.
Hichilema finally became president at his sixth attempt after soundly beating Lungu at the polls in 2021. It was their third electoral match-up, but the enmity went beyond ballot-box rivalry.
Hichilema (C) was greeted by supporters on his release from prison in August 2017
The key to understanding this was the more than 100 days that Hichilema, opposition leader at the time, spent in detention in 2017, awaiting trial on treason charges.
He was accused of endangering the life of then-President Lungu after his motorcade allegedly refused to give way to the one transporting the head of state.
The charges were only dropped after the intervention of the Secretary General of the Commonwealth.
Later that year, Hichilema told the BBC that he had been held in solitary confinement for the first eight days in degrading and inhumane conditions “without electricity, without water, without a toilet”. He blamed Lungu personally for his imprisonment.
This was only one of 17 occasions that Hichilema was arrested. Supporters of his United Party for National Development were also harassed by supporters of the governing Patriotic Front (PF).
The 2021 election could have drawn a line under things.
Lungu, who had been rejected by a margin of almost a million votes by an electorate fed up with corruption allegations and concerns about apparent anti-democratic behaviour, went into political retirement.
But as disillusionment with the Hichilema presidency grew because of continued economic hardships, Lungu sensed an opportunity and announced in October 2023 that he was returning to frontline politics.
Soon after that announcement, Lungu was stripped of his retirement benefits and privileges by the state as he had returned to active politics.
This decision rankled with the former president and his family.
Lungu also complained of police harassment. At one point last year, he said he was “virtually under house arrest”.
Some of Lungu’s supporters went with him on his regular runs, described by police as “political activism”
In 2023, the police warned him against jogging in public, describing his weekly workouts as “political activism”.
“I cannot move out of my house without being accosted and challenged by the police and driving me back home,” Lungu told the BBC in May 2024.
In that interview, he also alleged that he had been barred from attending a conference overseas and from travelling abroad for medical treatment.
The information minister vehemently denied that there was ever a travel ban and described the idea that his movement was restricted in Zambia as a “fiction and a figment of the imagination of politically charged mindsets”.
Mweetwa added that despite Hichilema’s treatment when he was in opposition, he was determined not to do the same to Lungu.
There are also accusations that the president’s anti-corruption crusade targeted those close to the former governing PF, including Lungu’s family.
His widow, who continues to be investigated, has been taken to court and lost properties. Some of his children, including Tasila, have also faced similar treatment – they all deny wrongdoing.
Then at the end of last year the Constitutional Court barred him from running for president again, ruling that he had already served the maximum two terms allowed by law.
The former head of state was angry about the way he felt he had been treated.
“There was no love between the two men and [Lungu] was of the view that: ‘I don’t want people to pretend in my death that they cared about me when in fact, not’,” the family’s lawyer Makebi Zulu said.
Lungu eventually managed to get to South Africa in January, but Mr Zulu said that he was told by his doctors, after a series of tests, that had he gone for a check-up earlier, the treatment would have had a greater chance of success.
It was not disclosed what he was suffering from.
It was, in part, in light of this that Lungu said he “wouldn’t want the current president to attend his funeral”.
The government has rejected the idea that Lungu was stopped from going to see his doctors in South Africa.
Following his death, the family wanted to be in charge of the funeral arrangements, but the Zambian authorities sought to take control.
Despite the ill-feeling, last weekend it looked like a compromise had been reached and plans were made for a state funeral.
But relations once again broke down as the family said the government had reneged on the agreement after releasing a programme showing more involvement by Hichilema than had been planned.
In a message on Thursday, the president thanked Zambians for their “resilience, patience, solidarity and calmness during this time” but after doing “everything possible to engage the family… we have reached a point where a clear decision has to be made”.
With that, the funeral arrangements in Zambia were put on hold and the national period of mourning was abruptly cut short.
The burial is now set to take place in South Africa and it seems unlikely that Hichilema will attend.
Zambians had been hoping for both Hichilema and Lungu to bury their differences, but this death and the events that followed, have denied people the closure and reconciliation they desperately wanted to see between the two.
Those differences have also denied many millions of Zambians the opportunity to mourn and pay their last respects to a man who once ruled them.

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has revealed the tough road she faced as a young artist trying to break into the Nigerian music industry, detailing her early struggles with image, rejection, and industry backlash.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast with Joey Akan, Tiwa opened up about how her journey to stardom wasn’t just about talent—it also involved navigating societal expectations and reshaping her identity.
“I used to be a songwriter in the studio wearing baggy jeans and a T-shirt,” she recalled. “And he [her former label head, Tunji ‘TJ’ Balogun] literally changed that.”
She explained that TJ had a bold vision for her image and encouraged her to embrace a more glamorous, edgy look.
“He was just like, ‘Let’s give them the African Rihanna or Beyoncé.’ I was like, okay, let’s go ahead.”
However, the transformation was met with sharp criticism when she returned to Nigeria.
“My fashion sense attracted criticism. Then, I ran back to L.A.,” Tiwa said.
She shared how performance opportunities were sometimes blocked because of how she dressed.
“I was really hurt. I would go to shows and wait backstage, and they wouldn’t call me because maybe the governor’s wife had said I couldn’t come up. Or they’d say, ‘Make sure you don’t wear any of those skimpy dresses.’ I’m not making this up.”
The backlash extended to her music as well. “There was a time ‘Love Me’ was banned on TV. I was discouraged,” she admitted.
Despite the resistance, a pivotal call from her longtime manager, Bizzle, gave her the push she needed.
“I remember Bizzle called me and told me that ladies were loving me, so I came back to Nigeria.”
Yet her return wasn’t met with open arms. Tiwa revealed that she was turned away by all the major labels at the time.
“I’ve told the story where I went to all the labels and they all said no—Storm Records, Mo’Hits, Banky W’s EME, everyone.”
Now regarded as one of Africa’s most influential female artists, Tiwa Savage’s story is a powerful reminder of the rejection and judgment many women face when they challenge industry norms and societal expectations.

Kwasi Sibo played an integral role as Real Oviedo secured a historic return to La Liga
Ghanaian midfielder Kwasi Sibo played an integral role as Real Oviedo secured a historic return to Spain’s top division after winning the La Liga 2 play-off final.
Sibo starred and lasted full throttle as Oviedo came back from two goals down to beat Mirandes and win the tie 3-2 on aggregate to seal their return to La Liga.
Joachin Panichelli looked to have put the game beyond Oviedo after opening the scoring in the 16th minute to hand Mirandes a two-goal lead.
However, veteran midfielder and two-time European champion with Spain, Santi Carzola clawed one back from the spot late in the first half.
After the break, Ilyas Chaira netted to level the tie, forcing the game into a dramatic extra time, where two players were sent off.
Francisco Portillo scored the winner in the first half of extra-time as Real Oviedo qualified for next season’s La Liga, marking an end to their 24-year wait for topflight football.
Sibo played 38 games, scoring a goal and delivering an assist for Real Oviedo in the just-concluded season.
Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has announced a stronger national focus on drug prevention, describing it as both a public health concern and a national security threat.
This is part of renewed efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking and abuse.
Speaking at the passing-out ceremony of 186 cadet officers of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Tema, the Minister directed the immediate operationalisation of the Substance Use Disorder Rehabilitation Fund.
Established under Section 22 of the 2020 Narcotics Control Commission Act, the fund is designed to support addiction research and the establishment of rehabilitation centres across the country.
“We must strengthen our preventive programmes, enhance rehabilitation efforts, and deepen international cooperation to tackle this menace at its roots,” the minister said.
“To this end, I have directed NACOC, as a matter of urgency, to operationalise the Substance Use Disorder Rehabilitation Fund.”
The fund will also support research into addiction and the treatment of persons with substance use disorders, recognising drug abuse as a growing public health challenge.
Minister Muntaka Mubarak pledged to contribute seed capital to the fund and urged individuals and corporate bodies to support the initiative as part of their corporate social responsibility in addressing the drug menace.
He further called for increased intelligence sharing among NACOC and other security agencies, noting the increasingly sophisticated nature of global drug trafficking networks.
“The drug trade is a complex and evolving threat, and it is only through unity that we can stay ahead of those who engage in this illicit business,” he said.
“Government is fully aware of the challenges you face, and we are taking concrete steps to address them.”
According to the minister, the government is investing in resources, expanding training programmes, and improving the welfare of security personnel.
He also noted ongoing efforts to strengthen the legal framework to ensure drug traffickers face the full force of the law.
The 186 cadet officers, commissioned into NACOC as part of Cadet Course 8, underwent six and a half months of rigorous training at the Ghana Navy Leadership Training School in Tema.
Their curriculum covered drug pharmacology, passenger profiling, document fraud detection, and intelligence operations—critical components in Ghana’s mission to dismantle international drug trafficking networks.
Emphasising that drug enforcement is both a professional duty and a moral responsibility, the minister commended the newly commissioned officers for their discipline and dedication.
The passing-out ceremony featured parade drills and tactical displays, accompanied by the Ghana Navy Regimental Band. Awards were presented to top-performing cadets.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing; NACOC Director General, Brig. Gen. Maxwell Mantey, senior management of NACOC; Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, Doreen Annan; other high-ranking security officials, and proud family members.

The Board of Directors of TDC Ghana Ltd recently undertook a comprehensive site tour across multiple project locations to assess development progress, address infrastructural challenges, and engage with project teams on forward-looking strategies.
Key highlights of the tour included ongoing refurbishment works at the TDC Towers, plans to construct a multi-storey car park, and the re-engineering of the central air conditioning system to improve building efficiency.
At Site 3, the Board reviewed proposed community-focused projects such as recreational centres, libraries, and additional infill housing developments aimed at expanding accommodation options in the area.
Preparatory work at the Kaizer Flats site is complete, with the land cleared and ready for the development of new 15-storey residential blocks.
The Board was assured that there are no legal or structural encumbrances on the cleared areas that could delay construction.
In Community 11, discussions focused on the ageing prefab structures, which have exceeded their lifespan. The Board is exploring the adoption of modern prefab technologies as a sustainable alternative.
At Community 26, home to the Kpone Affordable Housing Project, 191 specially designed one-bedroom units are currently available for sale, while construction is ongoing on two-bedroom units.
Board Chair Ashai Odamtten commended the technical teams, contractors, and staff for their dedication and work ethic.
He also underscored the need for greater environmental consciousness on project sites, urging teams to incorporate more greenery and maintain a focus on livable, community-centred developments.

The Executive Secretary to the Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has dismissed accusations made by the Damongo Constituency Secretary of the NPP regarding delays in commissioning the Broto water project.
Issifu Seidu Kudus Gbeadese described as “palpable lies” claims that GWCL Managing Director, Adam Mutawakilu Garlus, has deliberately refused to commission the Broto artesian well, which is intended to supply water to parts of Damongo and its environs.
“It is not true that the Managing Director has refused to commission the project,” he stated.
“Nor is it true that the project is being funded with a loan of GH¢17,074,113.58 from Exim Bank. The Broto water project is being fully funded by the Ghana Water Company Limited.”
He made these comments in Damongo while responding to a press conference led by Kadiri Abdul-Rahman and other NPP sympathisers, who accused Mr. Mutawakilu of stalling the project for political reasons.
According to Mr. Gbeadese, both GWCL and the project contractor, Danank Engineering Company, have confirmed that the Broto project is not yet complete and therefore cannot be commissioned.
He denied claims that the project was finished in December 2024, stressing: “Let it be known that as of today, the project is incomplete and not ready for commissioning.”
He also challenged claims that the Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, was the driving force behind the project.
“It is a profound lie that the MP initiated or secured this project. If credit must go to anyone, it should be to Dr. Clifford Braimah, not Abu Jinapor,” he said.
Mr. Gbeadese highlighted the limited capacity of the Broto water system, noting that it can only serve about 16% of Damongo’s population.
“The project was designed when the population was about 41,180, with a daily demand of 2,059m³. The artesian well, however, has a projected yield of only 324m³ per day. It cannot simply serve the entire regional capital.”
On funding, he clarified, “As of December 2024, GWCL had paid GH¢4 million out of the total GH¢17 million project cost. Since assuming office, the current MD has approved an additional GH¢6.2 million, which is yet to mature.”
He quizzed, “So between the MD—who is actively funding and expanding the project—and the MP, who has not contributed a single cedi from his Common Fund, who truly deserves the credit?”
Mr. Gbeadese revealed that the MD has directed Danank Engineering and project consultants to expand the Broto project’s capacity by constructing two new boreholes at Soalepe, a suburb of Damongo, to support the existing well.
He emphasised that this effort does not replace the larger, long-term water project planned by former President John Mahama and the current GWCL MD to comprehensively resolve Damongo’s water challenges.

The Premier League has written to Chelsea to seek clarification over the club’s position with ticket resellers – amid controversy over Todd Boehly’s involvement in Vivid Seats.
Boehly is both a director and investor in Vivid, described as an “unauthorised ticket seller” by the league, and also owns a 13% stake in Chelsea.
The website lists Chelsea matches on its platform, with some tickets last season at Stamford Bridge going for as much as £20,000. It is not allowed to operate in the United Kingdom, although it is permissible overseas.
Chelsea Supporters’ Trust asked the Premier League to “act and investigate” the situation, which it believes is both a “breach of trust and “a clear conflict of interest” in an open letter issued in March.
Premier League CEO Richard Masters has explained it is discussing the matter with Chelsea in a situation described as “ongoing” at a Football Supporters’ Association event last week.
The Supporters’ Trust has also submitted evidence against the American company to the government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
Boehly, Chelsea and Vivid have been contacted for further comment.
Vivid CEO Stanley Chia is quoted by Sportico , external as saying “economic and political volatility” has impacted the ticketing market as the company’s share price fell by 61% this year.
Chelsea have recently pledged to take action on ticket touting, although without naming Vivid or other ticket resellers, which the CST letter said it was “encouraged” by.
There have been concerns about a “flat” atmosphere at Stamford Bridge, highlighted by previous manager Mauricio Pochettino and echoed by current head coach Enzo Maresca at times last season, amid trials of a singing section in the Conference League.
Chelsea are currently participating in the Club World Cup in the United States and next face ES Tunis in Philadelphia on Tuesday night.

Carlos Alcaraz arrived in London with “no expectations” but with Wimbledon only eight days away, he has sent an ominous message to his rivals as he seeks a third successive title.
The world number two beat Jiri Lehecka in the final at Queen’s, claiming the crown for the second time and extending his winning streak – the longest of his career – to a remarkable 18 matches.
After beating Roberto Bautista Agut in Saturday’s semi-final, the Spaniard said, “grass-court mode is activated”.
He wasn’t lying.
This fourth grass-court title means that Serbia’s Novak Djokovic is the only active player to have more titles on the surface than Alcaraz.
“I came here with no expectations at all,” Alcaraz said.
“I just came here with a goal to play two, three matches, try to feel great on grass moving and give myself the feedback of what I have to improve.
“But I got used to the grass really quick, and I’m just really proud about it. My goal was complete, and I’m not talking about lifting the trophy or making the final.”
Alcaraz’s last defeat came back in April against Holger Rune in the Barcelona Open final and he has reached five successive ATP finals, picking up four titles.
Winning Queen’s is a good omen for Alcaraz. He lifted the title in 2023 and then went on to triumph at Wimbledon.
Just eight men have completed that double within the same summer in the Open era.
“You can’t really expect better form for him to come into Wimbledon, he’s obviously the player to beat,” former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I wouldn’t back against him winning the title at Wimbledon … Alcaraz, red-hot favourite for sure.”
Alcaraz aiming for rare summer double
Alcaraz has won five Grand Slam titles across three events, with the Australian Open the only trophy missing from his swelling cabinet.
The 22-year-old’s sole US Open triumph came in 2022 and he sealed a first Wimbledon title the following year.
In 2024, he doubled up and became one of just six men in the Open era to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same season, following in the footsteps of Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Djokovic.
Nadal (2008 and 2010) and Borg (1978, 1979, 1980) are the only men to have won the clay and grass-court Grand Slams in the same season on more than one occasion.
“Alcaraz had a great French Open and to win the French Open and Wimbledon used to be almost impossible … but in latter years because the grass courts are much harder with a higher bounce we’ve seen it happen quite a few times,” Cash added.
“It’s still a huge effort because the exhaustion to win a Grand Slam is extreme and he’s come over here and won this title as well.”
This month’s Roland Garros final was particularly draining as Alcaraz fought back from two sets down to beat world number one Jannik Sinner in a classic that was the longest French Open final at five hours and 29 minutes.
Alcaraz heads to the All England Club looking to join another elite club.
Just three men have won at least three successive Wimbledon titles in the Open Era.
Borg won five in a row between 1976 and 1980, with Pete Sampras winning three on the bounce (1993-1995) before bettering that achievement when he won four successive titles between 1997 and 2000.
Roger Federer was the most recent to achieve that feat when the Swiss dominated across five years from 2003 through to 2007.
Alcaraz has consistently shone on grass courts and he is fifth active male player to collect four or more titles on the surface, joining Djokovic (eight), Matteo Berrettini (four), Taylor Fritz (four) and Nicolas Mahut (four).
And he is just one of three Spanish men to win four grass-court tournaments after Nadal and Feliciano Lopez.
But Alcaraz has claimed his fourth at a much younger age – Nadal was 29 and Lopez was 37.
Has Alcaraz raised game for Sinner?
Image caption,Alcaraz has won his past five meetings with Sinner
Alcaraz has lost just five times in 2025 but four of those defeats came in the opening three months of the year.
Djokovic, Lehecka, Jack Draper and David Goffin all recorded victories over Alcaraz before March was over and Rune is the only person to beat him since.
The losses against Lehecka, Draper and Goffin coincided with Sinner’s absence from the circuit, while the Italian served a three-month ban for failing two doping tests.
Sinner returned in May, just after Alcaraz had embarked on his 18-match winning streak.
Alcaraz seemed to raise his game when he knew his rival was incoming and beat the Italian twice in the clay-court swing, including in the French Open final.
The pair have been widely hailed as the future of tennis and many believe they are primed to dominate once Novak Djokovic – the only active member of the ‘Big Four’ – calls it a day.
Breaks helped Alcaraz get ‘joy back again’
Alcaraz has been reaping the benefits of striking the right balance between work and life during 2025.
After losing against Draper in the semi-finals at Indian Wells, Alcaraz said he was feeling “too much hate” and made the call to take a short break in Cancun, Mexico, to recharge.
He did the same after his French Open win, opting for a short trip to Ibiza to switch off from the relentless demands of the ATP circuit.
“That was the key, just to have five, six days off, not grabbing a racquet, not stepping on the court,” Alcaraz said.
“After the vacation that I had in Cancun with my family, I just got the joy back, and I started to enjoy playing tennis again, to enjoy step on the court, competing again.”
Alcaraz is not playing any other tournaments before Wimbledon, but is not planning to sneak in a quick holiday.
Instead, he intends to explore what London has to offer.
“I can’t go back home. I’m going to stay here in London, hopefully enjoy London a little bit,” Alcaraz added.
“Let’s see how it’s going to be in the next days, but I’m going to have my days off to rest up, to enjoy, and then be back and preparing for Wimbledon in the best way possible.”

The CEO of the DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey, emphasised the authority’s commitment to enforcing road safety regulations. In a Facebook post, he stated: “The DVLA is implementing these changes to fulfil its mandate of making our roads safer. We kindly ask for your full cooperation as we work together towards this goal.”
The updated penalties align with the Road Traffic Regulations, 2022 (L.I. 2180), which empower the DVLA’s Compliance and Enforcement Unit to conduct roadside checks and impose sanctions on offenders.
Motorists are advised to ensure their vehicles meet all roadworthiness standards and that their documentation is up to date to avoid penalties. The DVLA has also warned against the use of fake licences, permits, or number plates, which will be met with strict enforcement.
The move has been welcomed by road safety advocates, who believe stricter penalties will deter violations and reduce accidents. However, some drivers have called for increased public education on the new measures to ensure compliance.
Authorities have assured that the enforcement will be conducted fairly, with offenders given the opportunity to rectify issues where applicable.
Pakistan has announced it plans to nominate US President Donald Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize, citing the role that Islamabad says he played in helping to negotiate a ceasefire last month between India and Pakistan.
On X, the Pakistani government said Trump deserved the award “in recognition of his decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis”.
India has denied the US served as a mediator to end the fighting last month, and says it does not want any diplomatic intervention from a third party.
Trump has often suggested he should receive the Nobel Peace Prize, whose winner this year will be named in October.
In May, Trump made a surprise announcement of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan following four days of fighting between the nuclear-armed neighbours.
Pakistan’s government said in its post early on Saturday: “President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi, which de-escalated a rapidly deteriorating situation.
“This intervention stands as a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker.”
There was no immediate response from Washington or New Delhi.
Trump has repeatedly said that India and Pakistan ended the conflict after a ceasefire brokered by the US, and also that he had used trade as a lever to make them agree.
Pakistan has corroborated US statements about brokering the ceasefire, but India has denied it.
Last month, Trump said he told India and Pakistan that a ceasefire was necessary in order for them to maintain trade with the US.
“I said, ‘Come on, we’re going to do a lot of trade with you guys [India and Pakistan]. Let’s stop it,” he told reporters.
The Nobel move was applauded by Mushahid Hussain, a former chair of the Senate Defence Committee in Pakistan’s parliament.
“Trump is good for Pakistan,” he told Reuters. “If this panders to Trump’s ego, so be it. All the European leaders have been sucking up to him big time.”
But Maleeha Lodhi, Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US, criticised the move as “unfortunate”.
“A man who has backed Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza and called Israel’s attack on Iran as ‘excellent’,” she wrote on X.
“It compromises our national dignity,” she added.
On Friday, Trump posted on Truth Social that he had helped broker negotiations between multiple nations, but despite this: “No, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do.”
Trump entered office vowing to quickly end the Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Gaza wars, although peace deals in both conflicts have eluded him so far.
He has frequently criticised Barack Obama for winning a Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 after less than eight months as US president. In 2013, Trump called on the Norwegian Nobel Committee to rescind the award.

Ten-man Real Madrid beat Mexican side Pachuca to take a big step towards the Fifa Club World Cup knockout stages.
Xabi Alonso’s side were reduced to 10 men early on in Charlotte when Raul Asencio fouled Salomon Rondon when the veteran former West Brom striker was through on goal.
Pachuca caused Real problems and had several chances and a penalty appeal rejected by the video assistant referee.
Real took the lead when Jude Bellingham ran on to a pass, carried the ball into the box and slotted a well-hit effort past the goalkeeper.
Arda Guler doubled the lead after Gonzalo Garcia laid off the ball from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pass.
Federico Valverde stabbed home their third before Elias Montiel’s deflected effort gave Pachuca faint hope.
Real will be in the last 16 if they beat Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg on Friday (02:00 BST). Pachuca are eliminated.
What was the main talking point?
The scoreline would suggest a fairly comfortable Real Madrid win but that does not really tell the story. After drawing 1-1 in Xabi Alonso’s opening game in charge against Al-Hilal, this marked their first win but they were made to work for it on another hot day – about 33C in front of 70,248 fans.
Pachuca, who had an extra man for 83 minutes, had 25 shots to Real’s eight and were made to pay for missing chances.
Real looked shaky at the back, especially when Rondon was kept onside before Asencio brought him down, and were tested thoroughly by 2018-19 Newcastle team-mates Rondon and Kenedy.
But a win is a win, and they will now be confident of progression, when they will hope to have Kylian Mbappe back after a bout of gastroenteritis.
Which players stood out?
Without Thibaut Courtois in goal this could have been different. The Real keeper ended up making 10 saves, including a crucial double stop to deny Rondon and Alan Bautista – and a save to prevent Carlos Sanchez from making it 3-2.
Bellingham got his 15th goal of 2024-25 – or his first goal of 2025-26 – depending how you look at it.
England team-mate Alexander-Arnold did not do too much of note, on his second appearance for the club, but had a hand in Real’s second goal.
The standout stats
This game was a repeat of the 2024 Intercontinental Cup final, which Real Madrid won 3-0 in Qatar.
Real remain unbeaten in Club World Cup games, excluding a penalty shootout defeat in the 2000 third-place play-off by Mexicans Necaxa.
What is next for these teams?
Real play Salzburg and Pachuca play Al-Hilal, both on Friday (02:00 BST).

The Ghana Football Association [GFA] has placed a transfer ban on Ghana Premier League side, Accra Hearts of Oak following the club’s failure to comply with a directive to pay $70,000 to New Edubiase United FC.
The ban, in accordance with Article 15(1)(c) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, came into effect after Hearts of Oak missed the final deadline of 31st May 2025 to settle the amount.
The payment stems from a decision by the GFA Players’ Status Committee, which directed Hearts of Oak to pay New Edubiase $50,000 as an outstanding balance on the transfer of Salim Adams, plus an additional $20,000 representing 40 percent of an onward transfer fee.
Despite earlier acknowledgements of the ruling and a meeting between the two clubs in March to amicably resolve the matter, Hearts of Oak failed to honour the agreed terms per New Edubiase United.
The Phobians was expected to make about a million dollars from his transfer to FC Cicinnati, but unfortunately, he could not make the cut and had to return to the country. Prior to his departure, the club had agreed to pay New Edubiase United $120,000 permanently signing the player, but paid $50,000.
In the March meeting between the two clubs, Edubiase had agreed to write off the debt because the business had gone wrong, but Hearts of Oak are believed to have failed to adhere to their side of the agreement, hence the club’s insistence on receiving the outstanding $70,000.
The GFA Disciplinary Committee, in a ruling issued on 8th May 2025, fined the club GH¢5,000 and gave it until the end of May to make full payment or risk facing sanctions including a transfer ban.
Automatically, the ban has been imposed on the club transfer market after failing to pay for the aforementioned debt to New Edubiase United. Below is the FA official decision letter:

A decade after his tragic death, the story of Matthew Ayariga, a Ghanaian Christian migrant worker martyred by ISIS in Libya, continues to resonate as a powerful memory of a man of faith.
The post shared by the Askghmedia’s X account on June 22, 2025, reflected on Ayariga’s courageous stand, which occurred on February 15, 2015.
Matthew Ayariga was among a group of construction workers kidnapped in Sirte, Libya, alongside 20 Egyptian Coptic Christians.
The group was brutally beheaded on camera in a horrific display of violence by the extremist group.
What makes Matthew’s story particularly remarkable is that he was not an Egyptian Copt, but a Black African from Ghana who had been working alongside his Coptic colleagues.
When confronted by his captors and questioned about his faith, Matthew’s unwavering response, “Their God is my God,” solidified his commitment to Christianity and demonstrated profound solidarity with his fellow captives.
This extraordinary act of bravery and devotion in the face of death has led to his recognition as a martyr by both the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church, cementing his place in the annals of modern religious history.
Matthew Ayariga’s sacrifice serves as a poignant reminder of the ultimate price paid by individuals for their faith and the enduring power of human connection in the darkest of times.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has imposed a transfer ban on Legon Cities Football Club after the club failed to comply with the payment schedule ordered by the GFA’s Players’ Status Committee (PSC) and subsequently enforced by the Disciplinary Committee.
The case, which dates back to October 2021, revolves around unpaid entitlements owed to former player Francis Nuer Addo. According to the disciplinary ruling, Legon Cities were instructed to pay the player GHS 29,000 in outstanding salaries and benefits, covering the period from October 2021 to October 2022.
Despite several reminders and an extended payment plan, Legon Cities defaulted on the agreed instalments, missing deadlines set for December 2024, January 2025, and February 2025.
The club was fined GHC 5,000, and a transfer ban came into effect after November 27, 2024.
“PURSUANT to Article 15(1)(a) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, Legon Cities FC is hereby fined an amount of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢5,000.00), for failing to comply with the Player’s Status Committee’s decision. This fine is payable to the GFA upon receipt of this Enforcement Decision on or before Friday, December 6, 2024.
“PURSUANT to Article 15(1)(b) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, Legon Cities FC is hereby given a final deadline to pay the full amount of GH¢29,000.00 to Francis Nuer Addo as per the decision of the PSC in 2 (2) instalments:
“i. the amount of GH¢ 10,000.00 to be paid on or before December 23, 2024,
ii. the amount of GH¢10,000.00 to be paid on or before January 23, 2025.
“iii. the amount of GH¢9,000.00 to be paid on or before February 23, 2025 .
“PURSUANT to Article15(1)(c) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, failing to pay the amounts stated in Decision 1 and 2 above, the following sanctions shall apply automatically:
“i. the Club shall suffer three-point deduction for every league or FA Cup match played should Legon Cities FC fail to comply with the Decisions 1, and 2 on or before the deadline mentioned above.
“ii. the Club shall suffer a transfer ban (both domestic and international), should Legon Cities FC continue to be in default with the Decisions 1 and 2 from the opening of the player transfer windows for the 2025/26 season.
“That in accordance with Article 15(2) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, Legon Cities FC is hereby warned to comply with this Decisions strictly; failing which the sanctions threatened above shall be applied automatically by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), its bodies or Committees, IT Department of the GFA and all departments of the GFA.”
Above are the Disciplinary Committee explicit warning to the club that failure to meet these deadlines would trigger automatic sanctions, including a transfer ban and points deductions.
Following the club’s persistent default the transfer ban which applies both domestically and internationally for the 2025/26 season was automatically triggered.
Additionally, the regulations stipulate that Legon Cities would suffer a three-point deduction per league or FA Cup match played while the debt remains unpaid.
In effect, Legon Cities should have forfeited their league and FA Cup matches played after February 23, 2025, but that did not happen.
The transfer ban, however, take effect from 2025/26 season and is expected to restrict Legon Cities from registering new players until the full debt to Francis Nuer Addo is settled, in line with Article 15(1)(c) of the GFA Disciplinary Code (2019).
Francis Addo, who initiated the enforcement process through the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), has openly expressed his disappointment over the GFA’s delay in enforcing the decision.
In a formal letter to the GFA dated June 19, 2025, Addo criticised the apparent selective enforcement of sanctions, pointing out that while other clubs like Nsoatreman FC were penalised promptly for similar breaches, the GFA appeared to delay sanctions against Legon Cities.
“Pursuant to Article 15(2) of the GFA Disciplinary Code (2019) which required of the creditor to request for the commencement of applicable sanctions on the debtor, I accordingly did so by a letter dated 14th April, 2024, delivered and duly received/stamped by your office on 15th April, 2025 (evidence attached).
“Respectfully, to date, you have not dignified my request with any administrative response, let alone shown by deed and fact that the said automatic sanction is applicable since 23rd February, 2025.
“The position above is supported by the fact that whilst you diligently refer offenders to the Disciplinary Committee and apply regulatory sanctions as in the forfeiture of points by Nsoatreman FC since MidMarch 2025, your outfit appears unwilling to enforce the sanctions against Legon Cities as per the current league table, and even up to the point of your recent approval of dates for the 2025/26 football season and the Ordinary Congress.”
He argued that the non-enforcement of the decision undermines the credibility of the Ghana Premier League table and erodes trust in the judicial bodies of the association. He further stressed that the failure to act decisively could serve as a disincentive to potential sponsors and investors.
Nuer Addo also raised concerns about the risk to unsuspecting players who might sign contracts with Legon Cities without being aware of the transfer ban, which would make their registration impossible.
“The league table must be revised to reflect the forfeiture of matches as provided by the regulations,” he demanded. “The GFA must also publish the list of all clubs under transfer bans to protect the interest of players.”
He extended his appeal to the Ministry of Sports, the National Sports Authority, and the sporting media, urging all stakeholders to ensure transparency in the enforcement of football regulations.
As of now, Legon Cities are officially barred from participating in player transfers for the upcoming season until they clear their debt in full.
The club was relegated to Division One at rhe end of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.

Cape Coast, June 22, GNA – The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA), together with relevant agencies, will embark on a massive exercise to demolish all dilapidated buildings within the ancient city, Mr George Justice Arthur, the Mayor, has said.
He explained that the move was to avert further disaster in the wake of the rains which is ravaging many communities in the Central Regional Capital.
The decision follows the collapse of an old storey building at London Bridge, a suburb of Cape Coast, which killed two people and severely injured three others during a torrential rain on Saturday.
The five victims were trapped under the rubbles for hours before they were rescued by a joint team of police, NADMO, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ambulance Service.
The casualties, Madam Ataa Panin, 79 years, and Emmanuel Ankaful, 84 years, were both removed from the rubbles lifeless and confirmed dead on arrival at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
Meanwhile the remaining victims are responding to treatment.
The Mayor provided DRIP machines to assist the rescue mission, pulling down the remaining portion of the collapsed building.
A resident and eyewitness who identified himself as Kwame told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the building had been in a fragile state for aeons without renovation.
The incident is under investigation to unravel the cause of the disaster, the Central Regional Police Command has said in a statement.
Giving his account at the scene of the incident, the Mayor said he visited the community earlier in the day and found that the affected house as well as many other homes had flooded.
Shortly after he left, he was called and informed by community members that the building he visited had collapsed.
“I came back and saw that five people in the house were trapped and so I quickly organised backhoe and other DRIP machines to rescue them.
“Three of them survived and are receiving treatment. But two people, an old man and an old woman were gone when we retrieved them,” he said.
“It is very disastrous, and it is a Black Saturday for the people of Cape Coast,” he added.
In view of that, Mr Arthur assured that all buildings in the same dilapidated state would be demolished.
“We will fight this holistically so that every dilapidated building which is likely to collapse is pulled down before it causes another disaster,” he stressed.
The Mayor commended the security agencies and NADMO for their dedication to the rescue mission.
Meanwhile, ADO1 Ebenezer Fiifi Dadzie, the Deputy Regional PRO of the Fire Service, after extricating the victims advised the public to always seek permit from the Assembly and Fire Service before putting up buildings.
“We need to advise them on their building plans and ensure that what is on paper is exactly what they are building. But mostly, people don’t do that, and they also purchase inferior building materials,” he said.
“I advise that we employ qualified engineers and technicians whenever we are building,” he added.
The team later pulled down another dilapidated storey structure about 100 metres away which was also on the verge of collapse following the heavy rains.
Meanwhile, several communities, including Ola, Pedu, Flowers Gay, Ntsin, Amamoma, Eyifua, Ayensu, and Kwaprow were reduced to streams by the floods, destroying many property in homes and shops.

Philip Danquah, the Chief Executive Officer of St. Philip Enterprise, has shared how he started his successful business with just GH₵2.40.
Speaking in an interview on M’ashyese3 on Adom TV, Mr. Danquah said he sold his coal pot for GH₵3.00 and used GH₵2.40 to begin selling underwear in Accra. Unfortunately, his goods were seized by the city taskforce on his first day. However, he managed to retrieve some items and continued selling.
He later moved to Circle, where things were still difficult. But during the 2000 general elections, while his friends returned to their villages to vote, he stayed and worked hard. That day, he made enough money to rent his first shop.
Over the years, he grew the business into St. Philip Enterprise, a well-known wholesale and retail company in Accra.
His story has inspired many Ghanaians, showing that with determination and hard work, success is possible—even from humble beginnings.
Kennedy Agyapong is a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central
Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has reaffirmed his commitment to leading Ghana toward a path of practical and transformational development.
Addressing a gathering of supporters and well-wishers at a ceremony to mark his 65th birthday in Accra on June 22, 2025, the former lawmaker said the country’s challenges require action-oriented leadership and not just eloquent speeches and theories.
“Believe in me, I can bring transformation to Ghana. Looking at the numbers who have turned up today, I can see that you have confidence in me, and I will not disappoint you,” he noted.
He noted that while Ghana is endowed with enormous land resources, governments have failed to fully harness them for the benefit of the youth and the nation at large.
According to him, Ghana’s future lies in pragmatic leadership that can identify opportunities and turn them into prosperity for the people.
“I have observed that Ghana is facing a major challenge, one that grammar and talk alone cannot fix. What we need is a pragmatic leader, someone who can smell money, I mean Ghana is blessed with vast land resources. If properly harnessed, these can empower the youth, create sustainable employment, and fuel national development. What we need is bold leadership to unlock this potential,” Kennedy Agyapong added.

They claim that this can lead to an increase in cost of petroleum products
Some Bulk Distribution Companies are reportedly raising concerns over increasing demurrage charges by vessels at the country’s entry points, citing interference with the Laycan schedule.
They claim this development could lead to a rise in the cost of petroleum products at the pump, denying consumers the opportunity to enjoy further price reductions resulting from the appreciation of the local currency.
According to the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD), certain faceless individuals are taking advantage of the situation to charge exorbitant and unauthorised fees, further worsening the problem.
The Chamber warns that if the situation is not halted or controlled, petroleum prices may take longer than expected to drop significantly, contrary to the expectations of many Ghanaians.
The Laycan schedule—developed through industry consultations and published by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA)—is essential for aligning import timelines with international oil trading partners.
However, since the beginning of 2025, the schedule has been revised more than four times in the first quarter alone, and six more times in the second quarter, often without proper consultation with industry stakeholders.
Chief Executive of the CBOD, Dr. Kwaku Ofori, in an interaction with the media, disclosed that political interference is disrupting the scheduling process.
“These repeated and unilateral changes have created severe operational and financial burdens for Bulk Import, Distribution, and Export Companies (BIDECs).
Each revision typically affects around ten cargoes, resulting in approximately thirty days of disruption and additional costs, such as unplanned demurrage and hedge-related losses.
“Within the first two quarters of the year, BIDECs have incurred over USD 40 million in demurrage alone due to these avoidable schedule changes. The Chamber finds it particularly concerning that some BIDECs without assigned Laycans, or those citing emergency needs, have been allowed to bypass the established schedule—undermining transparency and fairness in the allocation process. For the first time, the Q2 Laycan has been extended into Q3, up to September 2025, further compounding uncertainty in the sector.
“We have submitted proposals to the NPA to restore predictability and fairness in Laycan administration. Unfortunately, these recommendations have not been implemented, and the disruptions have continued,” he revealed.
The government is therefore urged to, as a matter of urgency, intervene and bring sanity to the sector by ensuring that the Laycan schedule is strictly adhered to, thereby reducing demurrage costs for the oil marketing firms.
Kim Björkegren, a former coach in Sweden, China, and the United States, took charge of Ghana in early 2025
Ghana has never won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations despite reaching three finals (1998, 2002, 2006)
The Swedish tactician is counting on tactical intelligence and team spirit to surprise the favourites in Morocco
As Ghana prepares for the 2025 edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, all eyes are on Kim Lars Björkegren — the Swedish tactician leading the Black Queens into the continental showpiece.
Appointed in early 2025, Björkegren brings with him nearly two decades of experience across Sweden, China, and the United States.
The Black Queens, one of Africa’s most respected women’s football teams, have never won the WAFCON title despite their pedigree.
Their best finish came in 1998, 2002, and 2006 — all runners-up positions.
As the team heads into the tournament with renewed ambition, CAFOnline.com sat down with Björkegren for an exclusive conversation about his vision, challenges, and hopes for Ghana.
Below is the full conversation:
CAFOnline.com: You’ve had coaching stints across Sweden, China, and the USA. What unique experience from those leagues are you bringing to the Black Queens setup?
Kim Björkegren: I’ve coached in many footballing cultures, and I always try to take the best elements from each. In the U.S., the focus is on athleticism and transitions. In Europe, it’s more about tactical and technical intelligence. I believe Ghana already has great technical ability. So, we’re working on improving our tactical understanding and physical strength to make this group even more complete.
What was the biggest motivation for accepting the role as head coach of Ghana’s national women’s team?
The talent in Ghana is immense. The young players are particularly impressive. I saw a long-term project with real potential. Also, the opportunity to immerse myself in a new footballing culture was appealing. I’m really enjoying my time here.
You’re taking over from Nora Häuptle, who laid a strong foundation. How are you building upon what she left behind?
We still have work to do, both on and off the pitch. Tactically, we need to be more organised, and fitness levels must improve. One of our long-term goals is to get our top players competing in stronger leagues. We’ve had very limited training sessions so far, but with every camp, we grow stronger.
Ghana has a rich history in WAFCON but has not lifted the trophy yet. How much pressure do you feel heading into this tournament with such expectations?
Ghana hasn’t won the title, and the last final was in 2006. So we’re not among the favourites. But I believe we can be a strong underdog. If we stick to the game plan and have a good day, we can beat any team.
The Black Queens were impressive in the qualifiers. What key areas are you focusing on as the team prepares for the tournament in July?
Preparation is crucial. We’re rotating the squad, testing new formations, and evaluating players both locally and abroad. It’s all about getting the best squad possible for Morocco.
In your opinion, what are Ghana’s biggest strengths heading into WAFCON 2025?
Our depth is our strength. We may not have global superstars like other teams, but we have many good players. Like PSG’s recent Champions League success without big-name stars, we can thrive as a collective unit.
How would you describe the team’s mentality and spirit since you took charge of the squad earlier this year?
The group has a strong bond off the pitch, and that shows in training. There’s still room to improve in fitness and intensity, but the team spirit is excellent. That fighting spirit will carry us far.
You’ve coached in very different football cultures. How does Ghana compare in terms of talent, passion, and work ethic?
The passion here is incredible. The players love the game. But there’s still a need to educate them about what it takes to succeed at the highest level. With the right guidance, more Ghanaian players will break into top leagues.
Ghana last reached the WAFCON final in 2006. What will it take this time to go one step further and win the title?
It will take belief, hard work, a little bit of luck, and a clear game plan. We have to take it one match at a time and stay mentally focused.
Are there any standout young talents in this squad you believe could make a major impact at the tournament?
Definitely. Stella is already in the NWSL at just 19. Princess Marfo is 21, and Doris Boaduwaa, though slightly older, has the potential to be one of the tournament’s top scorers. Watch out for them.
You’ve had limited time with the squad. How have you adapted your style to get the best out of the players in such a short period?
It’s been a learning curve. We’ve had just a few full sessions, so I’ve focused on squad rotation and testing players in different roles. It’s affected us in the short term, but it’s necessary for long-term readiness.
Finally, what is your message to Ghanaians as the Black Queens head into WAFCON 2025?
It’s an honour to lead this team. We’re working hard to make Ghana proud. With your support and a bit of luck, I believe we can have a memorable summer together.
Accra, June 22, GNA – Reverend Father Raguel Quansah, former Assistant Priest, St Kizito Catholic Church, Nima, has urged Catholics to take the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist seriously for spiritual strength and nourishment.
He said when Catholics received the Holy Eucharist, Christ abides and empowers them to do the right things.
Rev Quansah, who is pursuing further studies in the United States of America, said this on Sunday during a sermon to celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ(Corpus Christi) in Accra.
The celebration is a profound, prophetic and powerful solemnity in the liturgical year of the Catholic Church across the world.
It underscores the importance of the Lord nourishing Catholics in the Eucharist, giving them food for their faith journey.
Rev Quansah said the body of Jesus Christ had the power to forgive Christians their sins, urging Catholic faithful to acknowledge the relevance of the sacrament in their lives.
“The Holy Eucharist is the body, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ,” he explained.
In the Catholic Church, there are mortal and venial sins. Mortal sins force the Holy Spirit to depart from one’s heart, destroy faith and require confession to the Catholic Priest.
Venial sins are sins of weakness that are daily forgiven to the believer, like greed and gossip, among others.
The Clergyman said when Catholics received the Holy Eucharist with a state of grace in mind, Christ abided in them to receive spiritual empowerment to undertake charity works and other services to humanity.
“Some Catholics have received the Holy Eucharist, but because they were not in the state of grace, there is no action or empowerment in their lives.
“If you eat the Holy Eucharist with the state of grace, it spiritually works wonders in your life, irrespective of your challenges,” he said.
He said 1 Corinthians 11: 27-29, explained the repercussions of receiving the Holy Eucharist with sin: “Whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord.”
Rev Quansah stressed that “You cannot receive eternal life if you do not receive the body and blood of Jesus Christ.”
He said by eating the Body and drinking the Blood of Christ in the Eucharist, Catholics become united to the person of Christ through his humanity.
John 6:53 said, “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you; he who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life.
He said Catholics had a priceless gift from Jesus Christ because Jesus in the scripture fed the 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish.
The gesture recounted Jesus’s miraculous works and was a testament to His divine power and compassion.
The blessed sacrament of the Holy Eucharist is usually exposed to Catholic faithful during the solemnity for blessings.
A group of recently posted teachers from the 2022 batch of College of Education graduates are scheduled to picket at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters on Monday, June 23 over the delayed issuance of staff IDs and the non-payment of salary for the previous ten months.
Despite repeated follow-ups and assurances from GES officials, the 784 impacted teachers claim they have not received their pay since their August 1, 2024, appointment.
One of the group’s members, Solomon Opoku Gyan, told Citi News that the situation was dire, pointing to the Service’s lack of transparency and financial difficulties.
“We’ve worked for 10 months now without pay. We don’t even have staff IDs. Every time we visit GES, they offer excuses. It’s too much—we’re suffering,” a report by citinewsroom.com quoted him to have said.
He added that the prolonged delay has taken a toll on members, with some reportedly losing their lives in the process.
The teachers are demanding swift action from GES to resolve the delays and regularize their employment status.

The clinical results are impressive, as this user saw incredible regrowth after using KilgourMD The Prevention Scalp Serum over the course of a year
It can make a difference no matter what the source of your hair loss. Whether it’s due to hormones, environmental effects, or simple aging, it’s no match for this follicle-boosting serum that works by blocking DHT production.
That’s the hormone responsible for your thinning strands. KilgourMD’s serum works like a shield, all while preventing other common issues like damages linked to both age and the environment.
By approaching hair loss from this multifaceted angle, the serum handles what may have seemed impossible at first.
It contains a combination of patented agents, including Procapil®, Capixyl®, Anagain® and RootBioTec®, all of which work harmoniously to support your scalp.
Procapil is rich in both olive leaf extracts and peptides, which block DHT. Capixyl is equally rich in peptides, but also contains red clover extract to nourish the follicles.
With the pea sprout extract found in Anagain helping boost new growth and botanicals in RootBioTec help activate those sluggish follicles again.
With vitamin C added to protect your scalp from both aging and harmful ultraviolet rays, along with a blend of soothing additions to calm inflammation, KilgourMD’s serum truly does it all without causing side effects.
The serum is enriched with a cocktail of nourishing ingredients that work harmoniously to support regrowth and protect your scalp
And that’s essential, because consistency is the key to seeing results. In the first month, you can expect to see less hair fall and feel less irritation as your hair’s texture begins to improve.
By month two, your texture improves as your scalp’s overall health improves.
Using it is as simple as massaging a few drops into your scalp once or twice a day. Two dropperfuls is all that it takes to begin seeing a difference.
The application process can be quite soothing, elevating your self-care-at-home sessions while relaxing your senses.
The clinical studies are impressive, revealing that users saw a noticeable 30 percent reduction in hair fall when they used the product regularly over two months.
It’s incredibly easy to make the serum a part of your self-care routine, and can even be a soothing habit as you gently knead your scalp
It’s no wonder that so many love the serum, with many expressing their delight with the quick results and the product’s gentle formula.
‘Feels like a luxury treatment,’ declared one shopper. ‘It’s lightweight, non-greasy, and absorbs fast. I use it before bed, and my scalp feels so much healthier. I’ve noticed less shedding in the shower and even some new baby hairs coming in around my hairline!’
‘After six months, my hairline is visually back to where it was three years ago,’ raves another. ‘I can only say I wish I had been using it sooner!’
A third agreed. ‘It works! My hair feels thicker, healthier, and I’ve noticed significant growth in areas that were thinning.’
Give hair loss the boot with KilgourMD The Prevention Scalp Serum. It’s all that you need to begin seeing and feeling a difference in just weeks!
Jonga, (UW/R), June 22, GNA – Mr Abudi Issahaku, the Wa Municipal School Health Education Programme (SHEP) Coordinator, has expressed grave concern about the ignorance of many school children about their eye problems, which he said has a direct impact on their academic performance.
He attributed the problem to the failure of parents and guardians to have regular eye screening for their children.
“The situation is a very dire one. What makes it dire is that there are some pupils who are having eye problems, and they are not even aware of them.
What makes it worse is that their parents or caregivers are not aware, simply because they do not take their children for screening exercises,” Mr Issahaku explained.
He raised the concern in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Jonga in the Wa Municipality during an eye screening exercise organised by Bliss Eye Care, a private eye clinic in Wa, for school children in the Jonga Circuit.
The exercise was under the Blissful Sight for Kids (BS4Ks) project, an initiative of the eye clinic in partnership with Ghana Vision, a Swiss-based charity organisation.
A total of 667 children within the circuit benefited from the free eye screening, out of which 79 had normal eyes, 573 had pathological issues and were given medication, and twelve had refractive errors and were given eyeglasses, while three had cataracts and glaucoma.
The intervention by Bliss Eye Care since 2015 has impacted the educational lives of thousands of school children and, in some cases, teachers in the Upper West Region and beyond, recognising the importance of good eyesight for quality education.
That not only enhanced education in Ghana but also contributed to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially on education and health.
For instance, target 4.1 of the SDGs required that “By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes.”
Also, target 3.8 of the Goals sought to “Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all,” by 2030.
Mr Issahaku indicated that interventions such as the BS4Ks project were necessary in preventing avoidable eyesight loss for school children through early detection and treatment of eye conditions.
He encouraged parents and guardians to assume the responsibility of caring for their wards, including regular health and eye screenings, which were necessary for their holistic growth.
Dr. Zakarea Al-hassan Balure, the Manager of Bliss Eye Care, expressed satisfaction that his intervention was impacting lives, especially in rural communities.
He said some parents and guardians could not have regular eye screening for their wards due to financial constraints.
Dr. Balure said that informed his decision to offer free eye screening to all children in the region with the support of Ghana Vision.

The founder of Heaven Way International Church, Mama Pat, has expelled two members from her church, a male and a female, stating that they were not accepted by angels in the church. According to Mama Pat, her church members are all accepted by angels, and those rejected will not be tolerated.
Mama Pat emphasized that she prays for the angels to help her win more souls for the church, but she won’t allow certain individuals to hinder the church’s progress. This decision highlights Mama Pat’s strong conviction in her spiritual guidance and her commitment to maintaining what she perceives as the church’s integrity.
The reasons behind the angels’ alleged rejection of the two members were not specified, but Mama Pat’s faith in the spiritual realm is clear.
