Chinese investor at the centre of Ashie Moore and Singaporean businessman legal battle speaks out

A Chinese investor, Liang Liubing, has broken her silence over the legal tussle involving Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Singaporean businessman Toh You Kang.

Speaking through Deputy Superintendent Kwame Frimpong, a state interpreter from the Ghana Immigration Service, Liang revealed that she had intended to invest $3 million in Ghana but was misled due to her inability to understand English.

According to Liang, the investment, which was meant to be facilitated through Ashie Moore for legitimate business contracts was allegedly diverted by Toh You Kang.

“She wanted to invest 3 million dollars in a contract in Ghana, but she didn’t understand English, so the money that she was trying to use to invest in Ghana through the NDC Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Hon Ashie Moore, has been diverted into the Singaporean,” the interpreter quoted her as saying.

Liang further explained that she had travelled to Ghana to pursue legal action against Toh You Kang.

“She said she wants the laws of the country to deal with him. The man has threatened her family in China and tried to stop her from coming to Ghana, but she managed to come and tell her side of the story. She has also stated that she is willing to testify in the case,” Frimpong added.

The legal dispute gained national attention after Toh You Kang filed a human rights case at the Human Rights Division of the High Court in Accra, seeking GH¢20 million in compensation and the recovery of $800,000 he claims to have paid to Ashie Moore.

According to Kang’s 66-paragraph affidavit, he was introduced to Ashie Moore through Liang Liubing while attempting to enter Ghana’s electric cable supply market.

Kang alleges that Moore convinced him to part with $800,000 in exchange for lucrative contracts with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Kang further claims that after transferring the money, part of which was reportedly handed over in Singapore for the establishment of SG Innovation Limited, Moore went silent. He also alleges that he was detained in Ghana by Moore and armed men, deprived of his liberty, and pressured to pay $3 million for his release.

Contrary to Kang’s claims, Ghanaian authorities have charged him with defrauding by false pretenses under Section 131(1) of Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).

According to a Dansoman Circuit Court charge sheet, Kang allegedly convinced Moore and his partners to transfer $3 million for a proposed joint cable business but instead misappropriated the funds. He is currently on remand after being arrested on May 28, 2025.

Investigations further revealed that Kang misled Liang Liubing, falsely claiming that the funds had been handed over to Moore.

Ashie Moore, through his lawyer Gideon Tettey Tetteh, has denied all allegations of fraud, describing Kang’s claims as “baseless and defamatory.”

“The suspect rather defrauded Mr Ashie Moore and his partners of $3 million… It is an absolute falsehood that an amount of $800,000 has been paid to Ashie Moore,” Tetteh stated in a press release dated June 28, 2025.

Moore’s legal team has petitioned the Attorney General to move the case beyond police jurisdiction due to its complexity.

In a significant twist, Foshan Yuejiaxin Wire & Cable Co Ltd, a Chinese cable manufacturing giant, has publicly disowned Toh You Kang, accusing him of misappropriating company funds.

A statement signed by Liang Liubing, the company’s Managing Director, read, “Mr Toh You Kang has been implicated in a series of fraudulent activities that have resulted in the loss of several millions of dollars to our company. We reaffirm our full support for Emmanuel Ashie Moore in his pursuit of justice.”

Liubing confirmed submitting evidence to the Ghana Police Service and pledged to assist with ongoing investigations.

The Accra High Court has placed Toh You Kang on Ghana’s stop list, preventing him from leaving the country while investigations continue. He is also under investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for allegedly stealing $2.8 million.

I’ll not disappoint Ghanaians – Mahama pledges

0

President John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of the Eastern Region—and Ghanaians at large—of his unwavering commitment to delivering on all campaign promises.

Addressing a large crowd at the Koforidua Jackson Park on Sunday, July 20, as part of his “Thank You Tour”, President Mahama expressed deep gratitude for the support he received during the 2024 polls and vowed not to let the people down.

“Thanks for the warm reception,” he said to a cheering audience. “Due to the confidence reposed in me by electing me once again as President, I promise not to disappoint you. With the grace of God, we will fulfil all our promises to the Eastern Region and Ghanaians as a whole.”

The event in Koforidua marked a key stop on Mahama’s post-election tour, which seeks to express appreciation to voters, reinforce his administration’s priorities, and strengthen ties with communities across the country. Supporters and regional party executives gathered in their numbers, chanting party slogans and waving National Democratic Congress (NDC) paraphernalia.

Mahama’s remarks echoed his broader message of unity, inclusive development, and renewed focus on infrastructure, education, job creation, and health services—areas he emphasised during the 2024 campaign.

Local leaders and traditional authorities who were present at the rally welcomed the President’s commitment and called for urgent attention to development challenges facing the region, including road infrastructure and youth unemployment.

Tensions emerge in NPP after Legon amendment conference over alleged busing of supporters for Bawumia

0

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) recent conference, intended as a platform to showcase unity and internal strength, has instead been overshadowed by controversy—this time, not over ideology or policy, but over allegations of political theatrics.

Several presidential aspirants within the party have raised serious concerns over claims that Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, the party’s National Organiser, orchestrated the transportation of over 3,000 non-delegates to the venue, allegedly to bolster support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Conference, themed “Rebuilding Together With Our Values”, was aimed at promoting unity and harmony and working together to recapture power in 2028.

‎Dr Bawumia acknowledged the difficult period the party is facing following its defeat in the 2024 election, but praised its ability to remain resilient. ‎

The Ghanaian scientist who saved Nigerians from ringworms

Raphael Grey Armattoe invented the Abochi drug which saved millions of Nigerians from ringworms Raphael Grey Armattoe invented the Abochi drug which saved millions of Nigerians from ringworms

Aside from Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, and other great leaders who helped Ghana gain independence on March 6, 1957, there were many unsung heroes who laid down their lives fighting for the liberation of their people.

One of the heroes was Raphael Grey Armattoe, a brilliant scientist and political activist, who is perhaps not celebrated enough for his great achievements, which put Ghana on the highest pedestal.

He was such a brilliant scientist that he gained a lot of admiration from even the West, with the media describing him as the African version of some great men.

The New York Post, for instance, once described him as “the ‘Irishman’ from West Africa”, while BBC producer Henry Swanzy referred to him as the “African Paracelsus.”

Armattoe, when he was just 35 years old, was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1948, becoming the first African to achieve the feat.

He came second for the Nobel Prize in Science and Physiology.

He invented a medication that saved millions of Nigerians from ringworm and blood diseases.

The medication he invented, the Abochi drug, cured guinea-worms, toothaches, bronchitis, boils, and allied diseases. The patent for the drug was later bought by a prominent Nigerian drug company at the time.

Aside from his exploits in science, Armattoe, as a political activist, fought for the unification of British and French Togoland (modern-day Eweland).

The political activist, an Ewe man himself, born to Glikpo Armattoe, a merchant of Palime, Togo, did not understand when his people were divided into three countries: Ghana, Togo, and Benin.

In 1953, Raphael Grey Armattoe addressed the United Nations regarding Togoland and the ‘Eweland Question’, where he delivered a passionate speech for the unification of his people.

According to historian Yaw Anokye Frimpong, Armattoe was poisoned shortly after delivering a speech at the United Nations on Ewe unification. He was taken to Germany for treatment, but did not survive.

Armattoe’s gravestone in Hamburg, where he was buried, is inscribed with the words “Africa’s Greatest Nationalist.”

He has also been honoured in Ireland, where he also lived and practised. He was honoured with a blue plaque by the Ulster History Circle at 7 Northland Road, Derry.

He said the Government had demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the health and well-being of their children.

“This year, we increased the budget for vaccines by 46 per cent. As of today, we have fully paid the country’s $24.5 million to GAVI,” Mr Akandoh stated in his half year report on the health sector presented at a press conference during the Government Accountability Series at the Presidency in Accra.

“This prompt payment will help ensure we avoid recurring shortages of critical vaccines, which can lead to outbreaks,” he said.

The Minister reiterated that by August, Ghana would receive hundreds of thousands of vaccine doses ready to reach every community across the nation.

“As we say, investing in our children’s health today is securing Ghana’s

He said in this regard, the National Vaccine Institute was collaborating with the

regulatory authority and pharmaceutical industry stakeholders to bring this plan to reality.

Mr Akandoh announced that one of their private sector partners had obtained market authorisation from Ghana’s

Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to produce Snake Anti-Venom Serum on a commercial scale, marking the next step in their goal to shift Ghana from a consumer to a producer.

Road works to resume as Auditor General completes review — Mahama

0

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that road contractors who abandoned projects across the country will soon return to their sites to complete outstanding works.

According to the President, the Auditor General has concluded an audit of road contracts awarded under the previous administration, paving the way for the resumption of stalled projects.

He made the announcement on Sunday, July 20, during his Eastern Regional Thank You Tour at the Jackson Park in Koforidua.

Highlighting the importance of his administration’s Big Push Agenda in driving infrastructure development, President Mahama emphasized the government’s commitment to reviving critical road works.

“The Auditor-General has come with his report. So we are going to make the contractors go back to the site. But those who had double payment will be punished,” he stated.

The President explained that contractors who had received payments both from the Road Fund and the Ministry of Finance would face sanctions for the duplication.

Meanwhile, the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Nene Sakite II, commended President Mahama for what he described as a promising start within the first 120 days of his tenure.

“As the saying goes, good is not good enough where better is possible. Your leadership must now build on this momentum to bring sustainable development, hope and prosperity to all Ghanaians,” he said.

Nene Sakite also pledged the support of traditional leaders in the ongoing fight against illegal mining (galamsey), urging the President to sustain the campaign.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia receives massive support from NPP delegates during their July 19 conference Dr Mahamudu Bawumia receives massive support from NPP delegates during their July 19 conference

A political analyst, Dr Frank Aduhene, has admonished former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, not to risk his popularity by choosing a wrong running mate when he is re-elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on January 31, 2026.

Dr. Aduhene believed the former vice president will be given the nod once again by the NPP, stressing that sights and scenes at the party’s National Delegates Conference on Saturday, July 19, 2025, has all but endorsed him.

Sharing his thoughts on the outcome of the conference, the political analyst said there were no doubts that people have true love and affection for Bawumia, adding that what is left now is for him to select a more worthy person to partner him going into the 2028 elections.

“If you consider the scene and reactions yesterday at the Legon stadium, no one will tell you Dr Bawumia is solely loved by the rank and file of the party and is set to receive the nod again”, he noted.

He cautioned that such gains could be eroded if Bawumia sticks to his old choice of a running mate.

“I am sure Dr Bawumia himself will make good use of the various survey reports before him; the fact that the report clearly indicated that his major problem was the one to partner him. He must therefore resolve to make a better choice if he wants the party and the general voter population to take him seriously this time,” Dr Aduhene emphasised.

Dr Aduhene also cautioned Dr Bawumia to be wary of the “selfish and greedy” lobbyists asking him to retain certain individuals within his quarters.

Jim Iyke celebrates Kate Henshaw with cryptic birthday message

Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has surprised many fans with a cryptic message to actress Kate Henshaw on her birthday.

In a post shared on his Instagram page on July 20, 2025, the actor did not hold back as he poured out a mix of admiration, regret, and humour directed at his longtime colleague and friend.

His message, although filled with strong language, was laced with memories, what-ifs, and praise for the actress who turned a year older.

Jim Iyke started his message by expressing frustration over how Kate treated him in the early stages of their friendship.

According to him, she saw him as a younger brother, even though he wanted something more romantic.

“Fuck you, on behalf of my 23-year-old self for treating me like your baby brother when you knew all that time I wanted to hit that. You kept manipulating my black ass by always looking out for me, giving me heads-up at auditions, sometimes slipping a couple of bucks into my hands to make sure I got a meal or transport fare back to my cousin’s.

“Every time I stared into those dancing, beautiful eyes of yours, you knew I had imaginations that were far from friendly. Our love child would have been in his/her mid-twenties now if you had let me experiment with my seed just a couple of times. What a gorgeous human we would have made together!”

He then spoke about the time they eventually became intimate, describing it as a missed opportunity due to the mental state he was in at the peak of his fame.

He admitted that although he had a good heart, he was “crazy and dumb” at the time and was being misled by fame and outside influence.

“FUCK YOU KATE. Fuck you, ’coz when you finally lemme hit it, I was at the apex of my singular wildness and restlessness. You knew I had a great heart, but I was just crazy and dumb. I was overwhelmed with fame and too many voices in my ears, pointing me in the wrong directions.

“You stopped looking out for me. Took everything I did literally, then ran off and married that ‘Oyibo’. I’ll keep it a buck and say I didn’t think much of it. But a gorgeous, lovely baby came from that union. It did end in praise. I was so proud!”

Jim Iyke also used the opportunity to talk about how much of an impact Kate has had, not just on his life, but on society.

He said her beauty, fitness, and commitment to herself have made many young women feel pressured to meet impossible standards.

“FUCK YOU KATE. Fuck you on behalf of these young girls killing themselves and doing way too much trying to figure out how to keep up with you. You’ve caused hysteria, depression, anxiety, admiration, love, hate; a spectrum of human sentiments!

Poor darlings have had to BBL it, snatch it, tuck it, tie it, girdle it, needle it, Botox it, pound it, laser it, sew it, bleach it, even voodoo that shit to no avail. Nature, commitment and sacrifice didn’t create it. It can’t be manufactured. It’s a KATE HENSHAW world.”

Despite the strong language and emotional weight of his message, Jim Iyke ended the post with warmth and admiration, explaining that the use of the F-word was a playful and familiar way of showing affection, especially in Nigerian culture, where close friends can exchange insults out of love.

“Finally, FUCK YOU KATE. My circle is minuscule. Sometimes, I don’t see or hear from you in years. Yet, it’s sheer joy and unbridled spirit every time I run into you at various corners of the world. This fuck you is just because we’re Nigerians. We insult those we love! Time, matter, space and energy got nothing on our journey. Ours is the Barometer. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY DEAREST KO! @k8henshaw YOU ARE A PHENOMENAL CREATURE,” he concluded.

Solomon Owusu, a leading member of the Movement for Change, has sarcastically stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are telling Ghanaians they should give them another opportunity to come and dig holes.

A/R Police nab 3 for distributing fake insecticides from Nigeria

0

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three shop owners and distributors suspected of distributing and retailing counterfeit mosquito and insecticide spray products.

Following complaints from Evergreen Chemist Limited, the sole UK importer of the Kill It Insecticides, the police led an operation to confiscate the fake products in Adum and Tech, allegedly sourced from Nigeria.

The suspects face charges, including forging trademarks and defrauding by false pretenses, with potential penalties of up to three years imprisonment or fines.

The joint operation across the Kumasi business district and major markets, including Adum and Tech, aimed to crackdown the growing infiltration of counterfeit goods.

These products acquired at lower prices than the original, were being produced and distributed by unknown persons in neighboring countries, especially Nigeria.

The counterfeit products deceive consumers and undermine public health safety.

The sole importer of ‘Kill It’ insecticide spray, Abigail Del, decrying the situation, said the infiltration has affected dealers of the original product, as they face low sales.

“Some of the perpetrators were my customers. They started buying, leaving ours expired. Our sales have gone down, and we needed to take action because the counterfeit damages the body and it’s harmful. We have assessed the product with the FDA, and it’s proven to be harmful.

“The color of the fake one is faint, as well as the inscriptions. The UK flag insignia, which comes with a tag that says it is made in England, has been changed to made in PRC by the fake distributors,” she said.

Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, confirmed the three individuals, who are in police custody and under investigation.

He explained that charges likely to be preferred against the suspects are prohibited from the sale of drugs or herbal medicine products or any other household chemicals.

“They could be charged for packaging, labelling, advertising and sale of drugs, herbal products, medicine or cosmetic products in a manner that is false, misleading and deceiving to the public and consumers.

“The criminal offences ACT 2960, forging of trademark, or counterfeit any goods shall be guilty of misdemeanor not more than 3 years imprisonment or a fine. They are also likely to be charged with defrauding by false pretense. We understand the fake one is coming from our neighboring country, Nigeria,” he said.

DCOP Teye Cudjoe, whilst assuring of the police’s consistent lookout for perpetrators, also entreated customers to pay attention to the products they purchase on the market.

“We will always be vigilant. The operation has just begun and we will follow up the source. What also matters is that customers are made aware of the differences so behave extra cautious of their purchases,” he said.

Fast-track okada, tricycle legalisation – Operators tell Govt

0

The National Union of Tricycle Operators of Ghana has reiterated its call for the swift legalisation and regulation of tricycle and Okada operations, highlighting the sector’s role in providing jobs and reducing youth-related crime in communities.

During a sensitisation event in Wa on July 18, the National Chairman of the Union, Hamza Hafiz, addressed a gathering of riders, stressing the urgent need for government action.

According to him, the legalisation of tricycle and motorcycle transport services will not only streamline the sector but also protect the livelihoods of thousands of young people who rely on it for daily income.

National chairman Hamza Hafiz

“We are calling on His Excellency the President and the government to speed up the process. We trust the government’s commitment, but the process has been too silent for too long. We are here to show that we are ready for legalisation,” he said.

The National Union is currently on a countrywide sensitisation tour, meeting with tricycle riders in various regions to educate them on the expected regulatory framework and to demonstrate their collective preparedness for formalisation.

In Wa, the Union received strong support from local tricycle drivers who believe that legalisation will resolve some of the sector’s persistent challenges, including police harassment and the lack of designated parking spaces.

Mr. Sabogu, the Chairman of tricycle operators in Upper West, said, “When our National Union came here, they addressed almost all of our problems.

“We have issues with the police dismantling our parking stations, but the Union has spoken about this, and we believe if the government speeds up this programme, it will help us a lot.”

The riders also highlighted how the tricycle business, locally referred to as Kambu, has become a lifeline for unemployed youth, helping to curb rising crime in the community.

“Before this Kambu business started, most of the youth here were into Illegal activities, drinking, taking drugs, stealing, and robbery. Women coming back from the market in the evenings would have their money or purses snatched. But since Kambu started, most of these boys have jobs now, and those criminal activities have reduced drastically,” he noted.

‘Marriage is expensive, and having a wife comes with its own expenses’

Stonebwoy is a Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy is a Ghanaian musician

Ghanaian Afro-dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has stated that marriage is costly and involves more than just money.

In an interview on Joy Prime TV, the award-winning musician said marriage comes with several responsibilities that require time, effort, and emotional investment.

He pointed out that while people often focus on the financial side of marriage, the non-financial demands can be just as serious.

“Interestingly, marriage is expensive, and having a wife comes with its own expenses. You have to invest time, which is valuable. You need to allocate resources, which don’t come cheap. You must give attention, and attention is also costly. These are things you can’t buy,” he said.

Stonebwoy noted that he understands the weight of responsibility that comes with being a husband. He shared that his views are shaped by his upbringing and what he saw growing up.

“As a man, I grew up in a household where I witnessed responsibility firsthand. I understand that societal norms require men to take on caretaking roles. While it is expected of us, it’s not easy, and it certainly isn’t cheap. So, the expenses are real,” he added.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, has asserted that the event that transpired at the party’s National Delegates Conference, which was held on July 19, 2025, has shown that its members want different leaders.

In a post shared on social media on Sunday, July 20, 2025, Ken Agyapong, who lost the party’s flagbearership race for the 2024 election to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, indicated that a forthright person will attest to this fact.

He added that the party’s leadership must be filled with people who listen, and not those who always impose their will on members.

“The message from the base is clear, they’re calling for real change. This is no time for pretence.

It’s time to rebuild the NPP with honesty, discipline and patriotism at the core. Leadership must return to those who listen, not dictate,” he said.

His post was accompanied by visuals of his arrival at the venue of the National Delegates Conference, the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Ken could be seen standing on the roof of a car, waving and making change gestures from his vehicle to hundreds of supporters who were cheering him on.

I never had sex until age 25, so why can’t I wait for Agradaa? — Angel Asiamah asks critics

Angel Asiamah is the husband of Nana Agradaa Angel Asiamah is the husband of Nana Agradaa

Angel Asiamah, husband of embattled televangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has addressed rising public speculation over his personal life following his wife’s conviction and 15-year jail sentence.

Delivering a sermon during a church service, Asiamah responded to critics questioning his ability to remain celibate in his wife’s absence.

According to him, he lived a celibate life until the age of 25, emphasising that if he could do it then, he can certainly endure the next 15 years while his wife serves her prison sentence.

“They keep asking, ‘Can you stay alone after all this?’ And I respond, ‘Why not?’ Maybe they’ve forgotten that from the time I was born until the age of 25, I had never slept with a woman. I lived a celibate life all those years, so if I could do that then, I can definitely do it now, even if my wife has to serve the full 15-year prison sentence,” Asiamah stressed.

Background

Nana Agradaa was sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labour for defrauding members of her church by falsely promising to double their money.

The charges stemmed from a widely publicised incident during an all-night service at her Heaven Way Church, where congregants gave large sums expecting returns that never came.

The Accra Circuit Court found her guilty of defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement, citing her lack of remorse and prior offences.

AngloGold Ashanti piggery and aquaculture projects inspires agricultural transformation

0

It is an undeniable fact that the livelihoods of most resource-rich countries are tied to the existence of the natural resources of the country.

Yet, this does not translate into long-term sustainable economic gains for all since such resources are non-renewable.

Recognising this, AngloGold Ashanti rolled out a comprehensive 10-year Socioeconomic Development Plan to diversify the Obuasi economy.

Included in the all-encompassing strategic framework is an Aquaculture and Piggery projects targeted at creating jobs and strengthening food systems in AngloGold Ashanti’s host communities.

Speaking at the launch of the intervention in Obuasi, the Ashanti Regional Director of Agriculture, Patrick Owusu Acheampong, commended the Obuasi Mine for strategically addressing the issue of ‘Dutch disease’, which normally confronts resource-endowed countries.

He said investing in piggery and aquaculture is considered to be a promising yet undeveloped sub-sector, underscoring AngloGold Ashanti’s commitment to address unemployment and scale up the income levels of farmers.

He said the strategy aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture’s objectives under the Feed Ghana Programme by the Government which focuses on commercialization, private sector investment involvement and value chain development as key drivers of growth and resilience in the Agriculture sector.

To make the projects effective and sustainable, AngloGold Ashanti successfully trained 100 individuals in aquaculture and 100 in piggery from diverse communities across Obuasi.

For the year 2025, AGA will directly support 10 aquaculture farmers, while 9 pig farmers will gain from the piggery initiative.

This, according to the Community Relations Manager of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, Edmund Oduro Agyei, forms part of the Mine’s integrated agro-industry programme, established under our 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP).

He explained that the objective of the projects is to diversify and sustain the local economy of Obuasi by creating meaningful job opportunities for the unemployed and strengthening the food systems in the host communities of the Mine and beyond.

Throwing more light on the packages for the beneficiary farmers, Mr Adjei said “under the aquaculture intervention, the 10 farmers have already received 2,000 fingerlings each to boost their business efforts; received 45 bags each of fish feed; and will today, receive weighing scales, seine nets, waders, water quality probes, footbaths, water nets and ahotor ovens”.

Under the Piggery Project, he said the Mine has supported the farmers with a total of 18 Gilts (young female pigs under 1 year old); 9 boars (male pigs); 72 bags of gilt feed; 196 bags of gestation feed, and 239 weaner growers’ feed.

He commended the efforts of the partners, the Ministry of Agriculture and the University of Cape Coast, for collaborating to effectively carry out the projects.

The CRM of AngloGold Ashanti said partnership is a fulcrum that sustains the 10-year SEDP of the Mine, urging them to monitor the projects to achieve a desirable outcome.

Ken Agyapong’s team cries foul over ‘staged endorsement’ at NPP Delegates Conference

0

The aftermath of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Delegates Conference held Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium has sparked controversy within the party, as key members of the Kennedy Agyapong campaign team have raised concerns over what they describe as “engineered optics” favouring former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Fallouts of NPP’s sweeping constitutional reforms

0

By Edward Acquah

Accra, July 20, GNA – Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday endorsed the Party’s constitutional overhaul in a bid to reform the NPP and rebuild for election 2028 and beyond.

More than 5,500 delegates met at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra to deliberate on 56 constitutional reform proposals submitted by the Constitutional Amendment Committee, led by Mr Frank Davies.

The Conference, on the theme: “Rebuilding together with our values” is the highest decision-making body of the Party.

By the close of the Conference, a total of 54 constitutional reform proposals had been accepted, with only two proposals being rejected.

One of the major reforms accepted was the complete abolition of the Special Electoral College System, and the expansion of the base of delegates who elect the party’s presidential candidate, by 40 per cent.

The reform will lead to the abolishment of Article 13(1)(9) of the NPP constitution which established the Special Electoral College.

The new structure would include members of the National Council, National Executive Committee, Regional and Constituency Executive Committees, Electoral Area Coordinators, Polling Station Executives, National Council of Elders, National Patrons, all past National Directors, sitting and past MPs, and TESCON representatives from each recognised tertiary institution.

The rest are all card-bearing ministers and deputy ministers, MMDCEs, 15 delegates from every external branch, founding members, and three representatives each from special organs of the party.

Proponents of the reform argue that the existing electoral college structure is not representative enough.

Another major reform accepted by Council would make the National Chairman of the NPP the leader of the Party at all times.

The current position makes the President the leader of the Party when the Party is in Government and the Chairman the leader of the Party when the Party is in opposition.

A key reform proposal that equally received the backing of Conference would make it compulsory for all Government appointees and Chief Executive Officers who intend to contest for elections to resign 24-Hours before the election.

Meanwhile, a proposed amendment to cut the youth age limit to 35 was rejected. This meant that the age limit for a person to contest as youth organiser in the NPP was maintained at 40.

Another amendment proposal that was roundly rejected by Congress sought to give power to Regional and Constituency Executives to have oversight responsibility in electoral area and polling station elections.

It was the case of opponents of the proposal that such arrangements could lead to undue interference in the compilation of albums for elections at the lower level.

Mr Frank Davies told the delegates that the Party would move to effect the reforms approved by Congress in due course.

The exercise was largely calm and peaceful with no recorded major incident.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Joseph Osei-Owusu, Chairman of the Congress Planning Committee, said he was delighted about the enthusiasm exhibited by members of the Party.

He said the defeat suffered by the Party in the 2024 General Election sparked disappointment, leading to a lot of “blame-gaming” discussions in the media.

He said the turnout at the Congress offered him confidence that “we will recover and move forward.”

Mr George Abankwah-Yeboah, Former Treasurer, NPP, said the Congress was a major step towards uniting and rebuilding the Party and thanked the delegates for demonstrating resilience in their quest to reform the Party.

Touching on the two motions that were rejected by Congress, Mr Abankwah-Yeboah observed that there were not enough consultations by proponents of the proposals to better explain the rationale for the reforms.

The NPP has set Saturday, January 31, 2026, for its presidential primary to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

The announcement was made at a meeting of the National Executive Committee held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The decision was subsequently endorsed by the party’s National Council.

Godfred Dame lied to the Supreme Court on usage of state funds – Kofi Bentil

0

A photo collage of IMANI Veep Kofi Bentil (left) and former Attorney General Godfred Dame A photo collage of IMANI Veep Kofi Bentil (left) and former Attorney General Godfred Dame

Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, has accused former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Dame, of misleading the Supreme Court of Ghana on the use of state funds for the National Cathedral project.

According to Kofi Bentil, Mr. Dame peddled falsehoods when he told the apex court that state funds would not be used for the cathedral project, except for what he termed as “seed money”, despite knowing that more public funds were being spent.

Bentil further criticised both Dame and the Supreme Court, which dismissed a case brought by James Kwabena Bomfeh, former Youth Organiser of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), challenging the use of public funds for the cathedral.

“In my view, the AG lied… I don’t know how to put this, but in short, this is one of the reasons why the present Chief Justice is facing what she’s facing. Some of us were disappointed that in the face of things, it seemed there were preconceived decisions,” he said.

He continued, “My own brother, the AG, lied because he had those facts and went and controverted what Bomfeh said. And the judges, instead of taking judicial notice, looking at the facts in front of them, lined up behind the government in the face of things that we could all see.”

Bentil added, “The belief in the government was not founded. There was evidence in front of them, and it could be checked.”

His remarks follow revelations from an audit report by Deloitte, which confirmed that state funds were indeed used for the cathedral project, contrary to assurances previously given by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government.

Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, disclosed details of the report during a press briefing on July 18, 2025.

He stated that financial irregularities linked to the controversial National Cathedral project amounted to $97 million.

“National Cathedral project amounts to $58 million so far, and there is an additional outstanding $39 million payment due the contractor. This will bring the total cost incurred for the hole at the site of the project to $97 million,” Kwakye Ofosu said.

Eugene Boakye Antwi rallies NPP for unity ahead of 2028

0

At the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference, held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra, Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi, former Member of Parliament for Subin and a former Deputy Minister, delivered a bold call for unity, discipline, and forward-thinking leadership within the party.

Addressing the media on the sidelines of the event, Mr Boakye Antwi stressed that the NPP’s main political adversary remains the National Democratic Congress (NDC)—not fellow party members.
His message was clear: internal divisions must be set aside if the NPP is to maintain its relevance and electoral strength.

“We have one common enemy and it’s not each other,” he said. “Victory 2028 begins with a united NPP today.”

A Call for Discipline and Modernisation

The former Deputy Minister underscored the need for a new era of discipline, loyalty, and collective responsibility within the party. He warned that no amount of political manoeuvring or policy crafting would secure electoral victory unless the party is united at all levels.

Responding to questions about his political future, particularly whether he intends to contest for the position of General Secretary, Mr Boakye Antwi responded with cautious assurance:

“When the time is up, I will surely contest.”

He outlined a vision for the NPP’s administrative future centred on technology, transparency, and organisational efficiency, stating that the party must modernise its operations and communications to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving political landscape.

“The NPP must not only be a ruling party but a governing institution, equipped for the future,” he added.

A Steady Hand for the Party’s Next Chapter

Mr Boakye Antwi’s remarks have since sparked conversations among party members, delegates, and grassroots organisers. Many view him as a steady and experienced hand, with deep institutional knowledge and a track record of navigating both party structures and national governance.

His potential bid for General Secretary is seen by many within the NPP as a leadership comeback that could bring cohesion and strategic direction to the party, particularly as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.

As the party gears up for its next internal elections, Mr Boakye Antwi’s message resonates: the path to victory lies in unity, modernisation, and discipline.

GNAT calls for legal backing to protect reinstated PTAs

0

The President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Rev. Isaac Owusu, has called for the establishment of a strong legal framework to secure the recent reinstatement of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in basic and secondary schools across the country.

His appeal follows the government’s directive, announced by the Ghana Education Service (GES) on Thursday, July 17, 2025, reinstating PTAs in all pre-tertiary institutions. The move, directed by President John Dramani Mahama, reverses a 2019 policy under the previous administration that suspended PTAs and banned compulsory PTA levies, replacing them with weaker “Parent Associations” (PAs) as part of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme.

Addressing journalists at the opening of the “Teaching Together” workshop — a joint initiative between GNAT and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) — at the GNAT Institute for Research and Industrial Relations in Abankro, Rev. Owusu stressed that the reinstatement must be backed by law to ensure its sustainability.

Rev. Owusu noted that GNAT has long championed the revitalisation and institutionalisation of PTAs, describing them as critical platforms for fostering collaboration between parents and teachers to enhance school management and improve learning outcomes.

President Mahama had earlier, in June 2025, criticised the earlier suspension of PTAs as “unacceptable” and pledged their full restoration as part of his broader education reforms.

According to Rev. Owusu, the restoration of PTAs “effectively returns the management of schools to the community,” adding that any future reversal would represent a significant setback to inclusive governance in education.

He emphasized the need for Parliament to “enact legislation that offers legal protection to PTAs, preventing future governments from arbitrarily dismantling or sidelining them.”

Such a legislative measure, he argued, would provide the stability and long-term assurance needed for PTAs to make meaningful and sustained contributions to school development.

Husband of Ajumako market ‘baby thief’ drops chilling details

0

Husband of Rebecca Ofori, the woman accused of abducting an 11-month-old baby from Ajumako Market, has referenced years of childlessness as the reason for his wife’s crime.

He reveal chilling details of how his wife faked a pregnancy and presented the stolen child as her own.

According to police sources, Rebecca, 40, informed her husband several months ago that she was four months pregnant and needed to relocate temporarily to her mother’s home in Enyan Abaasa to prepare for the birth.

She is reported to have later returned to their home in Tarkwa Benso in the Western Region with a baby girl, claiming to have delivered safely.

However, the plot began to unfold when the baby, unfamiliar with her surroundings and caregivers, reportedly cried uncontrollably for two consecutive days.

This persistent distress, coupled with inconsistencies in Rebecca’s story, triggered the husband’s suspicions.

He told police that without alerting his wife, began making quiet inquiries in her hometown.

It was during this personal investigation that he stumbled upon news reports about a baby who had recently been stolen from Ajumako Market.

Upon confirming his fears, he promptly reached out to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ajumako District Police Command and provided them with crucial information that led to Rebecca’s arrest.

Police later confirmed that the woman and baby matched those captured on CCTV.

Rebecca Ofori is currently in custody along with the baby at the Ajumako Police Command as investigations continue.

Police say they are working to reunite the child with her biological parents while psychological support is being arranged.

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale was unintentionally pushed to the ground by a fan during a performance in Kumasi on July 19, 2025.

The incident happened while he was performing his hit song, Taking Over, which features the SM Militants, at the Golden Dew Hotel.

In a video shared on social media, the self-proclaimed Dancehall King was seen entertaining the crowd when an overly excited fan rushed onto the stage.

The fan, in an attempt to get close to Shatta Wale, ended up bumping into him while being chased by security guards.

The force of the impact caused Shatta Wale to fall onto the stage floor. Security officers quickly intervened, dragging the fan offstage.

Shatta Wale, who got back on his feet almost immediately, paused his performance to address the situation.

Upset with the situation, he expressed his frustration with the fan’s behaviour and questioned what would have happened if he had been injured.

He also used some harsh words towards the fan to show how seriously he took the matter.

Some people at the venue were heard commending Shatta Wale for staying calm and continuing the show after addressing the issue.

See rare poster of JB Danquah opposing Ghana’s Republican Constitution

0

Dr Joseph Boakye Danquah was one of the leading members of the UGCC Dr Joseph Boakye Danquah was one of the leading members of the UGCC

It is a known fact that Dr Joseph Boakye Danquah, one of the leading figures of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), was opposed to the way Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, wanted Ghana to attain independence.

While Dr Kwame Nkrumah was fighting for “self-government now”, Dr JB Danquah was for “self-government at the shortest possible time,” and he (Danquah) did all he could to ensure that the country got independence.

History shows that Dr Danquah wrote a letter to the late Queen of England, Elizabeth II, who was the Head of State of Ghana then, urging her not to assent to a law which would make Ghana a republic.

The founding member of the UGCC, it appears, even campaigned against Ghana’s Republican Constitution.

A campaign poster of Dr Danquah, which was broadcast by Max TV during a recent interview with historian Yaw Anokye Frimpong, shows him campaigning against Ghana becoming a republic.

The poster read, “Vote Dr Danquah and vote no to the Republican Constitution. Save Ghana Now!”

Anokye Frimpong, during the interview, claimed that JB Danquah’s opposition to Ghana becoming a republic was one of the ways he “betrayed the country.”

He added that this should explain why former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cancelled the celebration of July 1, 2025, as a public holiday while he was in office.

Reactions As Hawa Koomson And His Entourage Caused Another Scene At The Entrance Yesterday

0

A tense confrontation recently broke out between the security personnel stationed at a restricted zone and the entourage of Hawa Koomson, a notable Ghanaian political figure and the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East.

The dispute revolved around access to a high-security area and has since ignited public debate over the enforcement of protocol and access regulations in sensitive zones.

According to reports and eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred when members of Hawa Koomson’s team attempted to enter a secured inner perimeter during an event.

However, security officials at the entry point refused to grant access to some individuals in her group, citing concerns over proper accreditation and lack of official authorization. The standoff resulted in a prolonged verbal exchange between the two sides, with neither initially willing to back down.

The security personnel maintained that all individuals, regardless of their affiliations, needed to show valid credentials before entering the area. This stance was consistent with standard operating procedures typically enforced during high-profile or restricted events to ensure safety and proper order.

On the other hand, it was reported that some members of Koomson’s entourage believed their association with the MP entitled them to unrestricted access.

This disagreement appeared to be rooted in differing expectations regarding protocol and status, leading to a standoff that lasted several minutes before eventually de-escalating without any physical conflict.

The incident quickly gained attention online after a video clip surfaced on social media, drawing mixed reactions. While some praised the security team for strictly adhering to protocol, others criticized the handling of the situation, questioning whether more respect should have been shown to a sitting member of parliament.

See some of the reactions from Ghanaians below.

Ultimately, the encounter highlights ongoing challenges surrounding access control, authority, and the balance between enforcing rules and acknowledging the roles of public officials in Ghana’s political landscape.

“We Need a Face with Vision”: Grassroots endorse Bryan Acheampong for NPP leadership

0

The 2025 National Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has spotlighted Dr Bryan Acheampong as a key figure in the party’s future leadership conversation, with grassroots delegates and party faithful openly endorsing him as a potential presidential candidate for 2028.

Held under the theme “Rebuilding Together with Our Values,” the conference convened over 5,500 delegates from across the country to deliberate on internal reforms, proposed constitutional amendments, and strategies for party renewal. While discussions centred on modernising party structures and deepening grassroots engagement, much of the excitement at the event gravitated towards Dr Acheampong’s arrival.

Spontaneous chants of “BA! BA! BA!” echoed outside the stadium, reflecting what many described as an organic groundswell of support from the party base.

A Call for Visionary Leadership

Delegates and grassroots members expressed their sentiments in interviews and informal discussions throughout the event, with statements such as:

“We need a face with vision.”

“In Bryan, we have a presidential candidate that can be trusted.”

“It is Bryan and the rest.”

“In Bryan, NPP will be revived.”

“The voice of the masses is seen in Bryan.”

These remarks capture a rising mood within sections of the party yearning for generational renewal, unity, and a reinvigorated political message ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The Bryan Acheampong Factor

Dr Bryan Acheampong, the current Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, has built a reputation as a strategic thinker and responsive public servant. His stewardship of the government’s food security initiatives and his background in both public policy and national security have earned him admiration within and beyond the party ranks.

His supporters believe he has the temperament, experience, and vision to bridge party ideals with national aspirations, especially at a time when the NPP is grappling with internal factionalism and declining public trust.

Though Dr Acheampong has not formally declared his intention to contest the NPP’s flagbearer position for the 2028 elections, the conference made clear that his potential candidacy is gaining momentum. Many delegates believe his entry into the race would significantly influence party dynamics in the coming months.

Repositioning for 2028 and Beyond

Beyond personal endorsements, the conference underscored a broader party consensus: the NPP must reposition itself around a transformative leader capable of uniting factions, energising the grassroots, and appealing to a broader national electorate.

In the eyes of many, Dr Acheampong fits that profile.

10,000 Berekum residents to receive free medical care

0

Over 10,000 residents in Berekum have been targeted to benefit from free healthcare services as part of the upcoming medical outreach by Ghana Medical Relief (GMR). The initiative, scheduled to run from July 21 to July 25, 2025, will provide a wide range of essential health interventions to residents in Berekum and surrounding communities.

The President of GMR, Dr Samuel Owusu, announced the initiative during the launch of the outreach in Accra last Friday.

He explained that the project aims to close the healthcare gap in deprived communities. “We have witnessed cases where people have never met a healthcare provider in their entire lives,” the President said. “Our goal is to ensure that individuals gain access to preventive care before their conditions become severe.”

The GMR, a registered non-profit organisation in both Ghana and the United States, will deploy 110 medical volunteers, including doctors, nurses, dentists, and surgeons, for the outreach.
According to the President, the mission aligns with GMR’s philosophy of “providing healthcare one village at a time.”
The outreach will also offer services in general medicine, paediatrics, dentistry, urology, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, and psychiatry.

Support, sustainability

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Dr Owusu stressed that patients diagnosed with chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension would receive immediate support. This will include free medication and NHIS enrolment to facilitate follow-up treatment.

Unlike many short-term medical missions, GMR has adopted a sustainability model that enables patients to access continuous care after the outreach.

“We do not just hand out pills and leave. We register people for NHIS on the spot so they can seek follow-up care,” Dr Owusu stressed.

“Even in the United States, it’s rare to see a system where people walk in for free care and leave with a full year of insurance coverage. Yet, we do this every year through our volunteer-driven model ,” he added.

The GMR’s outreach has grown significantly since its first mission in 2018, when it served 2,000 people. Last year’s outreach in Bortianor catered to over 5,200 patients and registered 2,500 onto NHIS. The President attributed the growth to the commitment of volunteers and the organisation’s evolving approach over the years.

Ghanaian musician Black Sherif made his performance at the Share a Coke concert special by bringing a fan believed to be a sign language interpreter on stage in the middle of his performance.

To make everyone feel included, Black Sherif, also known as Blacko, invited the fan on stage to sign his song “Sacrifice” for people with hearing difficulties.

Many praised the act as a thoughtful effort by Black Sherif to make his music accessible to people in the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

Black Sherif performed nearly all the tracks on his newly released album, Iron Boy, treating fans to an energetic show.

The event also featured other artistes and performers. Jesus Christ 2 singer, Arathejay, AlorG X Bhadmayors, Jubed and Kawabanga took the stage, along with dancers from the DWP Academy, who delivered high-energy performances that kept the audience engaged.

The event was organised as part of Coca-Cola’s Share a Coke campaign and also tied into the company’s ongoing campaign to connect with consumers on a personal level.

As part of the initiative, Coca-Cola is customising bottles with individual names, allowing customers to purchase drinks with their own names on the bottle.

Three brothers charged in alleged scam impersonating Joshua Alabi

0

A 40-year-old businessman, Nurudeen Abdul Ganew, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly impersonating Professor Joshua Alabi, a leading figure in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), to defraud a member of the Council of State.

Ganew has been charged with impersonation and defrauding by false pretences, while he and his brothers — Nurudeen Rashid and Nurudeen Gafaru — have also been jointly charged with conspiracy to commit crime.

All three have pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of GH¢150,000, with three sureties, one of which must be justified.

The case is being presided over by Mrs Sedinam Awo Kwadam, who ordered the accused to reappear in court on July 21, 2025.

According to the prosecution, Ganew allegedly posed as Prof. Alabi on March 3, 2025, and deceived Mr Hakeem Addae, a member of the Council of State representing the Central Region and NDC Constituency Chairman for Twifo-Atti Morkwa. Ganew, who also claimed to be an official of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), allegedly promised to assist Mr Addae in acquiring a Toyota Land Cruiser and ten auctioned trucks, leading the victim to transfer GH¢60,000 to him.

According to a GNA report, investigators later tracked Ganew to his residence in Wa, Upper West Region, where he was arrested. Items retrieved at the time included four identity cards, three pen drives, four mobile phones, and GH¢14,896 in cash.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Ganew’s brothers on July 2, 2025, at Subinso, a suburb of Wenchi. A search of their residence uncovered over 12 mobile phones, 12 MTN SIM cards, one Telecel SIM card, and a database of political party constituency executives across all 16 regions of Ghana — believed to be a potential target list for future fraud.

Some of the SIM cards found were confirmed to have been used by Ganew to communicate with Mr Addae and receive payments.

Prosecutors allege the three brothers operated a syndicate that impersonated high-profile individuals, particularly politicians, to scam unsuspecting victims. Their targets reportedly included chiefs, queen mothers, political leaders, and corporate entities.

Ganew is believed to be the ringleader, handling direct contact with victims, while his brothers allegedly managed mobile money withdrawals through vendors in Wa, Wenchi, Sunyani, Techiman, Koforidua, and Accra.

“I Know Where You Are” – IGP Reveals How He Caught MoMo Scammer from Nsawam Prison

0

Inspector General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has revealed a personal brush with mobile money fraud, exposing a scheme operated by inmates at Nsawam Prison as reported by Ghana Web.

According to the IGP, he was recently contacted by a scammer who attempted to deceive him into dialing a suspicious code, a move that could have compromised his mobile money account.

Sensing the trick, he probed the caller’s identity. “I asked him, my brother, where are you? What work do you do? Are you sure you are genuine? I know where you are,” Yohuno recounted.

The fraudster, realizing he was exposed, abruptly ended the call.

Further investigation by the police traced the origin of the call to Nsawam Prison, where inmates are believed to be operating sophisticated fraud rings.

These scams often involve background sound effects, including police sirens, to coerce victims into transferring money under false pretenses.

The IGP also recounted another case involving a prominent Ghanaian man who was threatened with death unless he paid GH₵100,000.

The man, in a state of panic, approached the IGP for help.

When the police traced the number used, it too was linked to Nsawam Prison.

Yohuno stated that despite serving lengthy sentences, some inmates continue to defraud the public using mobile phones.

“You can imagine somebody who is in prison and is being re-arrested. What punishment, again, can you give them?” he questioned.

He urged the public to remain alert and to involve the police immediately when confronted with suspicious calls, stressing the importance of verifying a caller’s identity before taking any action.

I can’t defend any NDC member, not even my twin brother – NPP’s Abanga Yakubu over brother’s probe in galamsey allegations

0

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Aowin Constituency, Fuseini Abanga Yakubu has reacted to allegations against his twin brother, Yakubu Abanga, who is also the Third Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), regarding his alleged involvement in illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

Speaking to JoyNews at the NPP’s Delegates Conference on July 19, 2025, Mr Fuseini said that while he has not personally witnessed his brother participating in galamsey, he believes his brother is capable of such activities by virtue of his affiliation with the NDC.

“As an NPP member, I’m happy that EOCO is investigating my brother,” he said.

“I actually want more reports like this, so I can send a message to Ghanaians. Mahama promised to end galamsey, but look at what is happening.”

When asked if he believed his brother was indeed involved, Mr Fuseini replied, “To be honest, I can’t defend any NDC member, they are capable of anything. But I’ve never seen him do galamsey.”

He went further to say that he would not defend any member of the opposition party, adding that he welcomes negative reports about both the NDC and the ruling government if it helps expose wrongdoing.

His comments come in the wake of a directive from the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, instructing the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to launch a full-scale investigation into alleged galamsey activities involving Joseph Yamin, the NDC’s National Organiser, and Yakubu Abanga.

In a letter dated July 15, 2025, Dr. Ayine urged EOCO to invite the two individuals for questioning following intelligence reports and growing public concern over the destructive impact of illegal mining across the country.

“These activities not only violate our mining laws but also pose a serious threat to our water bodies, forest reserves, and rural communities,” the letter stated.

The Attorney-General also directed EOCO to widen its investigations to include others possibly involved, particularly in connection with findings in the Prof. Frimpong-Boateng report on illegal mining.

He further called for cooperation with the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission to support the investigation, given the Commission’s regulatory oversight in the mining sector.
