CK Akonnor was crowned the SportPesa League Coach of the Month for October 2025 CK Akonnor was crowned the SportPesa League Coach of the Month for October 2025

Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor was crowned the SportPesa League Coach of the Month for October 2025, winning the award for the first time.

During the aforementioned month, the Ghanaian coach guided the record Kenyan champions to victory in all three of their matches against KCB, Posta Rangers and Mathare United. Gor Mahia started the month with a 1-0 win against KCB, floored Posta Rangers 3-0, before defeating Mathare United 2-0.

The Gor Mahia coach clinched the award after beating Tusker’s Charles Okere, AFC Leopards’ Fred Ambani, and Patrick Odhiambo from Kakamega Homeboyz.

Speaking after receiving the ward, Akonnor said: “First, God comes before everything. Three or four months ago, I didn’t know what to expect. We lost our first match, but we’ve picked up very well.

“Our fans win the match before it even starts, they come in numbers, and the numbers are increasing. I’m grateful to my technical team, the stewards, management, and especially the players.”

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia winger Shariff Musa won the Player of the month. The awards, reintroduced by league sponsors for the first time since 2018, aim to recognise outstanding performers while increasing fan engagement and improving competitiveness across the top flight.

Musa was declared the winner after beating AFC Leopards defender Vincent Mahiga and teammates Enock Morrison and Michael Kibwage in the final vote.

According to a statement from FKF, the winger received 150 votes from fans and was presented with a customised SportPesa League trophy along with a cash prize of Sh50, 000.

NPP prioritised Akufo-Addo’s comfort over Aircraft acquisition – Nii Kpakpo Samoa

0

Private legal practitioner and NDC communications team member, Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo, has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for mishandling the narrative surrounding the procurement of aircraft during its time in government, saying the administration prioritised Akufo-Addo’s presidential comfort over operational and security needs.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, November 22, 2025, Nii Kpakpo said former Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul failed to clearly communicate the real reasons for acquiring aircraft.

“The problem was the inability of the party to reduce the excesses of President Akufo-Addo. Every president has his excesses; it is the ability of the party to reduce these excesses. The executive is a very powerful position, so if you don’t have a party system to check them, you’ll have challenges—especially with a president with exotic taste like Nana Addo,” he said.

He contrasted the simplicity of past NDC leaders with the flamboyance often displayed by NPP figures.

“Our brothers in the NPP have exotic taste, and I think they should admit it—they have a taste for flamboyance. You will see an NDC president who ordinarily wouldn’t mind living simply, but they later become beneficiaries of the flamboyance of the NPP. Whenever the NPP comes to power, they have a taste for the extraordinary,” he said.

Nii Kpakpo also recounted that when former President John Agyekum Kufuor assumed office, he found Osu Castle unsuitable and initiated the construction of a new presidential palace, a project he intended to complete before leaving office.

The NDC communications official’s remarks come amid heated debate in Parliament over the Mahama administration’s plan to acquire six new aircraft for the Ghana Armed Forces—four helicopters and two executive planes—intended to support both executive and national operations.

While the Majority maintains that the aircraft are essential national assets, the Minority has criticised the plan, describing it as an example of misplaced priorities, particularly given the ongoing challenges facing public sector workers.

Nii Kpakpo’s comments highlight the partisan lens through which such procurement decisions are often viewed, and the perceived contrast between operational necessity and luxury or comfort.

Let’s protect children from violence, abuse — Michael Danso

0

Ghanaian gospel artiste and writer, Michael Danso, has called for renewed national commitment to protecting children from violence and abuse. He said the rising impact of childhood trauma on individuals, families and communities makes it urgent for the country to intensify efforts to safeguard vulnerable children.

Mr Danso made the appeal on Saturday in Accra during the launch of his debut autobiography, “No More Tears in the Rain,” a 10-chapter memoir that chronicles his struggles, lessons and personal transformation. Addressing guests, he said the book reflects a journey of resilience, explaining that his own experiences with adversity shaped the writing process and strengthened his determination to inspire others.

He noted that the memoir marks the beginning of a new phase in his advocacy work. He revealed that he began writing the book while recovering from a domestic accident that left his right arm immobilised, adding that the setback reinforced his resolve to share a truthful story capable of motivating people facing similar challenges.

Mr Danso announced plans to establish the Life Divine Foundation to advance child welfare, literacy and media advocacy focused on ending violence against children, including molestation, bullying and harmful traditional practices. Citing the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and SDG 16.2, he stressed that protecting children is both a moral responsibility and an investment in the nation’s future.

He expressed gratitude to his family, friends and supporters, dedicating the book to all who have endured silent pain. Vice-Chancellor of Methodist University Ghana, Prof. William Baah-Boateng, described autobiographies as vital tools for preserving history and inspiring others, and commended Mr Danso for completing the memoir despite physical challenges.

Nigerian music stars Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage have finally reconciled after seven years of feud.

Their rift started on social media, when Yemi Alade cryptically criticised female entertainers for enhancing their buttocks in photos to “deceive their fans.”

Yemi Alade’s post came a few hours after Tiwa Savage shared photos highlighting her curves.

In response, Tiwa warned Yemi Alade not to start a war that she couldn’t finish: “Don’t start a war you can’t finish.”

However, their reconciliation took place in Lagos on Thursday at ‘The Price of Being Her’ panel organized by Entertainment Week Africa.

Addressing Tiwa at the event, Alade, in a viral video online, said, “I honestly want you to know that those moments you get rugged and do what you truly want to do, you are standing up for many females. Just continue being you. You are literally walking in strength.”

Tiwa, who was moved by the tribute, became emotional and was captured in another video after the event singing and sharing a warm hug with Alade.

Guardiola appears to confront a camera operator after Man City’s defeat to Newcastle

Pep Guardiola was furious after Manchester City's 2-1 loss to Newcastle United Pep Guardiola was furious after Manchester City’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle United

Pep Guardiola cut an irate figure after Manchester City’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle United at St James’ Park. The former Barcelona manager got into an intense discussion with Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes, the match officials, and even a cameraman on Saturday night. The result also somewhat took the wind out of City’s Premier League title bid in a day to forget for the visitors.

A Harvey Barnes brace, either side of Ruben Dias’ strike, secured Newcastle all three points on home turf. But the game was not without controversy as City felt they should have been awarded a first-half penalty when Phil Foden went down in the box after a late tackle from Fabian Schar.

And there were question marks about Barnes’ second goal, as goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma claimed he had been fouled and Bruno may have been offside in the build-up. The loss means City could fall seven points behind table-toppers Arsenal on Sunday if they beat Tottenham in the north London derby.

At the full-time whistle, Guardiola got into a very animated chat with Bruno, with both individuals looking testy at times. The 54-year-old also appeared to argue with a cameraman as he struggled to keep his cool.

By the time he was interviewed, the ex-Bayern Munich manager gave little away.

When questioned on the matter, he said: “No questions, everything is fine. I said how good he [Bruno] is [but that conversation] is for private situations. Everything is fine.”

Despite being the top scorers in the Premier League with 24, Guardiola believes his team have to be more clinical in front of goal. They had 68 per cent possession and 17 shots to Newcastle’s nine, but only had four efforts on target. Moreover, they created an Expected Goals (xG) tally of 1.88 in a wasteful display that showed they cannot always rely on Erling Haaland, who has scored 14 of their league goals this term.

Guardiola added: “Tight game. Entertaining game. They had chances. We had chances. In the end they scored one more goal. Two or three chances that he [Haaland] always have because he is the best. And yeah, go to the next. Two or three chances that he always have because he is the best. And yeah, go to the next.”

Prosecute those behind attacks on Christians

Giorgia Meloni is Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is Italy’s Prime Minister

Giorgia Meloni, Italy’s prime minister, has called on the federal government to prosecute those behind attacks on Christian communities.

She called for intensified security measures and to ensure those behind the killings are brought to justice.

Italy’s Prime Minister gave the charge in a statement posted on X (Twitter), on Friday. Meloni condemned the latest outbreak of violence, describing the attacks as unacceptable.

She said: “We strongly condemn the renewed violence that took place today against Christian communities in Nigeria.

“Religious freedom is an inviolable right: we ask the Nigerian government to strengthen the protection of Christian communities and all religious communities and to prosecute those responsible for these heinous attacks. “Italy expresses all its closeness to the victims and to the communities in Nigeria who today feel in danger because of their religious beliefs.”

On same day, United States President, Donald Trump, expressed anger over the alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria.

The US President spoke on a conservative radio program on Friday, as captured by Fox News.

Trump had earlier designated Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ over the Christian genocide claims. He threatened military action in Nigeria to stop the killings, branding the country “a disgrace”.

He also accused the Nigerian government of failing to protect Christians from violence perpetrated by the Islamic extremists.

Hinting at his next move during the radio program, Trump said he may stop all aid to Nigeria.

Trump further repeated his threat to take military action against Islamist militants in Nigeria if the government does not “do more” to stop attacks on Christian communities.

“Nigeria is a disgrace. The whole thing is a disgrace.

“They’re killing people by the thousands. It’s a genocide, and I’m really angry about it. And we pay, you know, we give a lot of subsidies to Nigeria. We’re going to end up stopping”, he said.

Ghanaian vitiligo awareness activist Abigail Boateng, also known as Abigail Anderson, has decided to educate the public on common misconceptions surrounding the skin condition.

In a two-minute, thirty-six-second video posted on TikTok via her account @abigail.anderson970, Abigail explained the nature of vitiligo and addressed questions she frequently receives.

Speaking from personal experience as a woman with the condition, Abigail explained:

“There are some misconceptions about vitiligo that I feel I need to clear. It is a skin condition where the skin loses its pigment because the cells responsible for producing pigment aren’t working. It is harmless. It does not hurt, nor does it itch.”

She further clarified that not everyone with vitiligo is from Tepa Banie:

“Many ask me, are you from Tepa Banie? I’m not from Tepa Banie. Not everyone from Tepa has vitiligo, and not everyone with vitiligo is from Tepa. So it’s not right to always ask this question.”

The association of vitiligo with Tepa Banie stems from a cultural tradition in the Asante region, where Tepa Banie is revered as a river deity.

Abigail also addressed a common misconception about the condition being a Halloween costume or makeup:

“Another question I get asked is if this is a Halloween costume. No, it is not makeup nor a costume. Be real, this is my skin, naturally.”

Vitiligo and genetics talks

Abigail also responded to questions regarding whether vitiligo is hereditary.

She explained that her own case is a first in her family, showing that the condition can appear even without prior family history:

“Yes, it is genetic, but it is not strictly inherited. If I have it, it does not necessarily mean my daughter or son will have it.”

She concluded by highlighting the beauty of people with vitiligo and encouraged others not to make life harder for individuals with the condition.

She urged those with less confidence to embrace their skin and feel proud.

Dumelo highlighted the Mahama administration’s plan to inject US$500 million into the oil sector Dumelo highlighted the Mahama administration’s plan to inject US$500 million into the oil sector

The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Matthew Kofi Setor Dumelo, has expressed confidence that the 2026 Budget will drive job creation and accelerate economic growth, especially through renewed investment in Ghana’s oil and palm oil sectors.

Contributing to the debate on the 2026 budget statement in Parliament, Dumelo highlighted the Mahama administration’s plan to inject US$500 million into the oil sector, an initiative he said could generate over 250,000 jobs and significantly enhance national revenue.

He urged government to prioritize increased production in both crude oil and oil palm, noting that neighbouring Côte d’Ivoire continues to benefit from large-scale cultivation and export.

According to him, Côte d’Ivoire exports about 650,000 metric tonnes of oil palm, earning substantial revenue, and Ghana must adopt similar strategies to grow the sector.

“We cannot overlook the potential of the oil business. Prioritising this sector will boost our revenue and support long-term economic transformation,” he said.

Dumelo further commended President John Dramani Mahama’s interventions in the 2026 Budget, stressing that sustained investment and deliberate policy direction are essential to reset the economy for growth, jobs, and structural transformation.

Three persons who allegedly defrauded a scrap dealer of GH¢250,000 were on Friday put before an Accra Circuit Court.

Akwasi Boateng, 42, Eugene Ofosu, 40, and Richard Adomako, all businessmen, are alleged to have collected the amount under the pretext of selling to the victim five excavators as scrap.

Imoro Alhassan, the complainant, later found out the excavators did not belong to the accused persons.

The three have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, to wit defrauding by false pretences and defrauding by false pretences.

Akwasi Boateng, who was present in court, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Eugene Ofosu was absent, while Richard Adomako was at large, the court heard.

The court has admitted Boateng to bail in the sum of GH¢350,000 with two sureties, who must justify the bail with title documents in their names.

Prosecution was ordered to file their disclosures. It issued bench warrant against Ofosu and Adomako.

The prosecution case was that the complainant, Imoro Alhassan, is a resident of Twifo Praso. Boateng, Ofosu and Adomako are all businessmen.

In October 2025, Ofosu approached the complainant that his boss, Adomako, had five excavators, which he was selling as scrap.

Prosecution said the complainant expressed interest in buying the excavators and Ofosu then sent him to Anyinam in the Easter Region to inspect the “supposed excavators.”

The complainant bargained with Ofosu and they agreed on GH¢70,000 each for the excavators, bringing the total to GH¢350,000.

Ofosu told the complainant that payment would be made in Accra and on October 3, 2025, Ofosu led the complainant to Afrikiko where they met Boateng.

The complainant made part payment of GH¢150,000 to Boateng for the excavators.

On October 7, Boateng and Ofosu met the complainant again at the Osu Cemetery where he paid GHc100,000 to Boateng.

On October 8, the complainant went to Anyinam to start cutting the excavators but was prevented from doing so by the security man in the yard.

It was disclosed that the excavators did not belong to Boateng and Adomako, who had collected the GH¢250,000 and went into hiding.

On October 10, Alhassan made a report to the police and on October 24, Ofosu was arrested at Twifo Praso.

He admitted having lured the complainant into buying the excavators in his cautioned statement.

On November 14, Boateng was arrested from his hideout at Kwabenya in Accra, and he also admitted having collected GH¢250,000 from the complainant.

‘Bathing babies daily could damage their skin’ – Toke Makinwa claims

Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has advised mothers with newborns against bathing their babies daily.

According to her, bathing babies every day could potentially damage their skin.

Speaking in a video broadcast on her social media page, the actress, who recently welcomed her first child at 40, argued that babies are naturally clean, stressing that the womb they came from is not dirty.

She revealed that she doesn’t bathe her child every day and advised her fellow nursing mothers to wipe their babies instead of bathing them daily.

“I really think bathing babies actually causes problems. Babies are not dirty. They have been inside the womb for nine months. Inside the womb is not dirty.

“I don’t bathe my baby every day because it is not necessary. Babies are not on the floor; they are not dirty or sweaty. So, why are you excessively putting water on their skin? Their skin is fragile. You can wipe them instead of bathing them every day. This helped me, so I’m just putting it out there,” she expressed.

Toke Makinwa’s advice to nursing mothers has received a mixed reception online, with many questioning her experience in motherhood and her qualifications in nursing.

Virgil van Dijk points to ‘very bad’ atmosphere at club after Anfield loss

Virgil van Dijk is Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is Liverpool captain

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk reflected on a “very bad” atmosphere after his side’s 3-0 loss at home to Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool slumped to their second consecutive defeat by a three-goal margin in as many weeks and left them in the bottom half of the table, after a dismal run of six losses in their last seven games Premier League games.

“It’s a very difficult situation at the moment,” said Van Dijk. “We concede too many easy goals. In the first half an hour we were really good, we created really good opportunities. Then they scored from a set-piece, again. You can ask yourself if he was in front of Alisson, but it counted.

“There was nervousness after we conceded. You sensed that we were trying to rush things, to get the equaliser as soon as possible. Overall we were just not good. In terms of the battles, challenges, second balls, we were just too rushed.

“We’re just in a very, very difficult moment, and we have to get out of this. I’d rather do it by talking in the dressing room than speaking to you guys.

“We have to take responsibility. Football is a team game. We have to digest this, take it on the chin and work harder. I’ve said that quite a lot this season, it’s not been working out, but we need to keep going.

“The atmosphere, in my eyes, is very bad. We need to look in the mirror.”

He emphasized that diplomacy is evolving, requiring representatives to demonstrate innovation, strategic insight, and measurable results to keep Ghana visible on the global stage.

“In this evolving world, Ghana must remain visible, influential and respected. Our country has long been known as a beacon of peace, stability and democracy. We must sustain this reputation and build upon it,” he said.

The President further charged the diplomats to strengthen bilateral ties, promote Ghana’s interests, safeguard the welfare of Ghanaian citizens abroad, and reinforce the country’s longstanding role as a leader in African diplomacy.

On behalf of the envoys, the Ambassador to Italy, Mona Quartey, stated that they were ready to arrive at their posts and deliver on the mandate of the reset agenda, aimed at growing Ghana’s economy and prosperity. “Mr President, the Black Star will rise and shine,” she affirmed.

He has lost command – Amidu questions IGP’s control over police service

0

Former Attorney General Martin Amidu has questioned the leadership credibility of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, arguing that the police chief publicly admitted he was not in command of the November 12 joint military-police operations.

In an opinion piece, Amidu said the IGP’s own comments showed a violation of Article 202(2) of the Constitution, which places operational control and administration of the Ghana Police Service under the IGP.

Ghana midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana marks Bologna debut in big win over Udinese – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

Ibrahim Sulemana has marked his first appearance for Serie A side Bologna in the 3-0 victory over Udinese in Udine.

The 22-year-old climbed off the bench to help the Rossoblu to a convincing victory, enjoying 12 minutes of the match after replacing Giovanni Fabbian.

Sulemana joined the Red and Blues in the summer transfer window on loan from Atalanta, but waited for two months to make his debut due to injury.

The Black Stars midfielder is expected to gradually make his way into the first team as he continues his journey in the Italian topflight league.

Meanwhile, in a thrilling encounter at the Bluenergy Stadium, Riccardo Orsolini missed the opportunity to give the visitors the lead after missing from the spot.

However, he made amends in the second half by delivering the assist for Tomasso Pobega’s opener in the 54th minute.

Pobega doubled the advantage on the hour mark with a fine strike.

Late in injury time, former Juventus striker Federico Bernardeschi sealed victory for Bologna.

GNFS to release report soon

0

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has pledged to release a comprehensive report on the devastating fire that destroyed a plastic recycling plant at Weija after ongoing investigations are concluded.

The Greater Accra Regional Commander of the GNFS, ACFO II Nisawu Kwame Rashid, told Channel One News on Saturday, November 22, that while early indications of the cause have emerged, the complexity of the incident requires a thorough probe.

“We have gotten some clue on what has gone on, but looking at the nature of the issue, we are doing further investigations. I hope that not too long from now, we will put it out there and add it to our report for stakeholders. This incident happened just 24 hours ago, so we must investigate properly before publishing the results,” he said.

ACFO II Rashid also provided an update on a firefighter who sustained injuries while battling the blaze. He confirmed the officer suffered burns around the right ear but received prompt medical attention. “He was taken to the hospital, treated, and has been discharged,” he added.

The fire, which broke out around 1:00 a.m., completely razed the Charkeih Recycling Company in the Weija Gbawe Municipality, destroying its main installations and several tonnes of recycled plastic. Preliminary reports suggest the blaze may have been triggered by an explosion from a transformer within the facility.

Trade Minister engages transport operators, spare parts dealers over high prices

0

By Issah Mohammed

Accra, Nov 22, GNA – Madam Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, has engaged the leadership of spare parts dealers and transport operators to address persistent irregularities and recent hikes in spare parts prices.

The meeting with the leadership, under the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), followed an earlier engagement with transport operators, who raised concerns over the unstable spare parts prices, which continued to affect fares and worsened the cost of living.

They noted that despite the cedi’s steady appreciation against the dollar over the past nine months, the cost of spare parts continued to rise, placing significant strain on the sector.

In response, the Minister invited GUTA, the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, and commercial transport operators to identify the root causes behind the sustained price hikes.

Representatives of the spare parts dealers said although prices of many car parts had reduced in recent months, parts for Sprinter buses remained high due to increased demand and limited supply, which had pushed market prices upward.

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr Thomas Nyarko Ampem, who was also present, underscored the need for unions to reduce the prices of goods and services in line with the recent stabilisation of the cedi.

He urged stakeholders to allow the improved exchange rate to reflect in commodity pricing.

The dealers further explained that many transport owners did not buy directly from Abossey Okai but rather through mechanics and middlemen popularly known as “Affairs,” who significantly inflate prices, creating the false perception of widespread increases.

They advised the public to buy directly from spare parts dealers to ensure value for money.

Madam Ofosu-Adjare reaffirmed government’s commitment to promoting fair pricing, transparency, and stability within the trading and transport ecosystem.

She said government was working to streamline trade policies, enhance market monitoring, and eliminate price distortions to protect consumers while supporting businesses.

The stakeholders agreed to establish a common platform to address concerns and grievances promptly without resorting to public confrontation.

The Minister reiterated her open-door policy, stressing that it was unnecessary and unfair for groups to channel their concerns through the media when direct engagement remained available.

She emphasised the need to maintain stable spare parts prices, as that was critical for economic stability, especially given their direct impact on transport fares.

Stop retreating, start fighting — Eco-Conscious Citizens to NAIMOS

0

Environmental advocate and Coordinator of Eco-Conscious Citizens, Awula Serwah, has urged government to urgently and adequately resource the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) to effectively tackle illegal mining, which she describes as an escalating national security and environmental emergency.

She stressed that NAIMOS must be properly equipped, well-staffed, and empowered to act decisively—without being forced to retreat when confronted by armed illegal miners.

Her call comes as the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources begins a comprehensive review of NAIMOS operations to strengthen the national response to galamsey.

Speaking on the sidelines of an evening dialogue on Ghana’s food culture—“Gold No Be Food: How Galamsey Is Affecting Our Food System”—organised by the Ghana Food Movement at The Kitchen in Osu, Madam Serwah expressed disappointment over what she described as long-standing gaps in the country’s anti-galamsey strategy.

“It’s unfortunate. I tried calling the number that was circulated, and when I finally reached someone, they said it was a private number, not NAIMOS. We need a proper emergency line that citizens can call when excavators are moving to destroy our forests and rivers,” she said.

She criticised the absence of a functional, dedicated hotline for reporting suspected illegal mining activities, recounting her own unsuccessful attempts to reach the institution.

“Each time NAIMOS officers have to retreat, we embolden environmental terrorists. If they receive a report, they must have the men and the resources to respond swiftly and finish the work. We cannot afford to lose this fight,” she cautioned.

Madam Serwah further warned that without strong political will and coordinated security support—including from the military, navy, and air force—Ghana risks sliding into a situation where criminal networks control territories beyond state reach.

Meanwhile, Co-founder of the Ghana Food Movement, Aimee Wallin, urged the youth to intensify their advocacy and demand accountability from political leaders.

She said Ghana’s food security is under threat from two fronts: contamination of food due to polluted lands and water bodies, and the gradual loss of indigenous food knowledge and culinary heritage.

“We need to be angry. We need to hold our politicians accountable. They have the power and resources to change the system that is degrading our environment and pushing us toward imported food,” she said.

Wallin noted that the Ghana Food Movement continues to work with chefs and communities to promote indigenous crops, showcase their potential, and reconnect Ghanaians to their food heritage.

“We’re losing our food because it’s getting contaminated, but we’re also losing it because we are not preserving our food culture. There’s so much knowledge in our communities—ingredients like fonio, baobab, and moringa—that we must protect,” she added.

MIIF gold deal, fuel diversion probes hit advanced stages — OSP confirms

0

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) says two major corruption probes — involving the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) programme and the alleged diversion of petroleum products by more than 30 Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) — have reached advanced stages.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Saturday, November 22, the OSP said it continues to push several high-value investigations forward, with rising public interest expected as the cases progress. The Office reaffirmed that its work remains anchored in due process, transparency and the protection of the public interest.

According to the update, the OSP disclosed that under the MIIF investigation, it has already undertaken key statutory measures — including the freezing of accounts, seizure of assets and restrictions placed on the movement of some individuals — as part of the ongoing probe.

The investigation centres on a gold-trading arrangement between MIIF and Goldridge Company Limited, introduced to support Ghana’s gold-for-oil and reserves programme intended to boost state revenue.

There are indications that the state may have advanced about US$94 million for gold purchases that were not fully delivered, prompting the OSP to open a corruption probe earlier in 2025.

In September 2025, the OSP confirmed that the Chief Executive Officer of Goldridge Company Limited, Nana Yaw Duodu, also known as Dr. Sledge had been invited and subsequently detained after failing to meet bail conditions in connection with the same matter.

The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), created under Act 978 of 2018 to manage Ghana’s mineral royalties and state mineral investments, introduced its gold-trade initiative to support the government’s gold-for-oil and gold-for-reserves policies through private-sector partnerships.

The second investigation involves an extensive fuel-diversion scheme in which more than 30 OMCs are being investigated for allegedly diverting marine gas oil, premix fuel and diesel. The OSP says the alleged diversions have major revenue implications, and efforts are underway to recover millions of cedis that should have accrued to the state.

The Office further noted that, in addition to these two maturing cases, several others — including the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) matters — are already before the courts.

The OSP emphasised that its mandate remains unchanged: to prevent, investigate and prosecute corruption, and to ensure the effective recovery and management of state assets as the cases advance toward possible prosecution.

Caretaker allegedly pours hot water on nine-year-old girl for defecating in room

0

A nine-year-old girl has sustained serious burns after her caretaker allegedly poured hot water on her and cut her hand with a knife.

The suspect, a sex worker, is allegedly the victim’s elder sister. Tenants say she has been abusing the child, who was brought from Nigeria to live with her at Duase in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region.

The suspect, Beauty Inakwe, allegedly attacked the victim, Ruth Wisdom, beat her and injured her hand because she defecated in the room.

According to residents, the suspect usually locks the victim and her own child inside their room every night while she goes to work, returning the next morning.

The room has no toilet, forcing the children to rely on a public facility in the community. When the victim is unable to reach it in time, she reportedly defecates into a plastic bag—a practice the suspect reportedly disapproves of, responding with severe beatings.

Saturday’s incident drew the attention of tenants and neighbours, who rescued the girl and took her to the Manhyia hospital.

Health workers at the facility told Citi News they found several old bruises on the girl, indicating long-term abuse.

Although she has been discharged, the victim says she is still in great pain and described how her sister has been abusing her.

Police at the Kenyase District Command arrested the suspect but later granted her bail on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

Police sources say she was granted bail to allow her to seek medical care after she was allegedly beaten by some residents before being handed over to the police.

The victim is now staying with some community members who are helping her recover.

Akufo-Addo must be questioned for the ‘sins of Ofori-Atta’ – Arthur Kennedy

0

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo must answer for the alleged financial misconduct that occurred under his administration, including actions linked to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, political commentator Dr Arthur Kobina Kennedy has said.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, Dr Kennedy said many of the transactions and contracts now under investigation did not happen in isolation and could not have occurred without the awareness or tacit approval of the former president.

“If we are talking about the sins of Ken Ofori-Atta, he was reporting to somebody,” he said. “At some point, we need to be asking the former president questions about what he was doing while his ministers were looting our coffers dry. He has a moral responsibility to address these things.”

‘It is not a lost cause’

Dr Kennedy rejected suggestions that the corruption case involving the former finance minister is futile because he is currently outside the country.

“The idea that it is a lost cause — it is not a lost cause,” he insisted. “Even if he is not in Ghana, there can be a trial. There can be a verdict of guilt or innocence. And even if he doesn’t spend a day in jail, the fact that he finds it necessary to avoid going back home brings shame and hopefully has a deterrent effect.”

He noted that Mr Ofori-Atta previously faced a red notice that restricted his movements, though it has since been suspended after he filed applications to overturn it.

OSP charges and political implications

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced that Mr Ofori-Atta and seven others will appear in court on 24 November to face a 78-count indictment. The charges cover alleged corruption, procurement breaches and collusion in dealings involving Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).

The OSP alleges the actions led to the improper disbursement of more than GHS 1.4 billion in public funds through contracts deemed not to meet procurement standards.

Others charged include former GRA officials Emmanuel Kofi Nti, Rev Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Isaac Crentsil and Kwadwo Damoah, former Chef de Cabinet Ernest Darko Akore, SML CEO Evans Adusei and SML itself.

Ofori-Atta’s lawyers say he has not yet been formally served with a criminal summons and argue that proving 78 charges beyond a reasonable doubt will be “a considerable hurdle”.

‘As long as Akufo-Addo remained in power, he was untouchable’

Dr Kennedy said the Ofori-Atta case has revived concerns about the partisan nature of Ghana’s justice system.

“It would seem that as long as the Nana Akufo-Addo government remained in power, Ken Ofori-Atta was untouchable — and so were quite a lot of other people,” he said. “This is a very telling indictment of our judicial system.”

He argued that alleged questionable contracts, syndicated loans and the SML agreement “did not happen overnight” but unfolded “in slow motion”, with Parliament and the executive failing to act.

Attacks on the Special Prosecutor

Dr Kennedy also addressed mounting criticism of the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, including calls for demonstrations over claims he failed to prevent Mr Ofori-Atta from leaving the country in January.

He said while some concerns may have merit, the country must strengthen institutions such as the OSP so they can function without political interference — regardless of which government is in power.

‘We practise rotating one-party dictatorships’

Dr Kennedy warned that Ghana risks perpetuating a cycle in which incumbent governments operate without scrutiny, only for wrongdoing to be exposed after they leave office.

“We seem to be practising serial one-party dictatorships that last for eight-year terms,” he said. “Then once that is over, the other party comes and they make noise about how shocked they are at what happened.”

He said Ghana must begin preventing corruption and abuse before they occur, rather than “waiting for them to happen and then engaging in futile exercises to exact punishment”.

Failures of law enforcement and public accountability

Dr Kennedy also criticised what he described as chronic failures in law enforcement, referencing a domestic violence case in which a woman reportedly made several complaints to police that were ignored until she was nearly killed.

“That police station should be collapsed by this morning,” he said. “If nobody at either Ankaful or Tesano is punished, I will be very disappointed.”

On the deadly stampede during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at El-Wak Stadium, he said the tragedy was “predictable incompetence”.

“You invite over 21,000 people to a stadium built for 7,000, on the same day, at the same hour, with only six desks. What do you expect? And yet everyone is fine — having waakye this morning as if nothing happened.”

Call for a justice system beyond incumbency

Dr Kennedy urged Ghana to adopt systems similar to the special counsel model in the United States, where independent prosecutors can investigate even sitting presidents.

“We need to move away from this system where being an incumbent seems to insulate you from judicial processes,” he said. “Independent bodies must be able to act regardless of who is in power.”

Peace Council lauds Otumfuo’s leadership as Bawku mediation nears final phase

0

The National Peace Council (NPC) has commended the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his decisive leadership in mediating the long-standing chieftaincy conflict in Bawku, describing his intervention as a major step toward ending decades of violence in the area.

With the final mediation sessions scheduled for November 30 and December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace, the Council expressed optimism that the multi-stage process spearheaded by the Asantehene is inching closer to a breakthrough. The NPC believes the structured engagement led by Otumfuo offers the most credible path to achieving lasting peace in the conflict-prone municipality.

In a statement issued on Saturday November 22, the Council commended both the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions for their cooperation throughout the separate and joint meetings held so far. It urged the parties to maintain their calm posture and openness as the process enters its most crucial phase.

According to the NPC, resolving the traditional and chieftaincy disputes that have fueled years of deadly clashes, displaced families, and destroyed livelihoods in Bawku would mark a significant milestone for national peace and cohesion. The Council emphasised that a final settlement would not only save lives but also consolidate Ghana’s reputation for resolving complex conflicts peacefully.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress so far, the Council appealed to both factions to remain committed to the mediation process and give the Otumfuo Committee the support needed to secure a lasting resolution.

Akosua Arhin triumphs as Miss Malaika Ghana 2025

0

In a dazzling ceremony that marked the culmination of months of intense competition, Akosua Arhin was crowned Miss Malaika Ghana 2025 at the National Theatre last night, Saturday, November 22nd.

The 20-year-old student from the University of Ghana prevailed over nine talented finalists, securing the coveted title, a brand-new car, a scholarship, and the ambassadorship role for the prestigious beauty pageant.

The event, themed “Defining the Future,” drew a sold-out audience and featured an elaborate blend of Ghanaian culture, sharp intellectual discourse, and high-fashion runway displays.

The 2025 edition of Miss Malaika was distinguished by the high academic and social impact calibre of the finalists.

The night’s rigorous final assessments included three crucial segments:

  1. Cultural Display and Introduction: Contestants presented aspects of Ghana’s diverse heritage, focusing on the cultural significance of traditional wear and dance.
  2. Rhetoric and Intellectual Round: The top five finalists tackled complex current affairs and development issues, demonstrating their intellectual depth and ability to articulate policy.
  3. Final Q&A (Top 3): The final three contestants were tested on their vision for the Miss Malaika brand and their plans for national advocacy.

Akosua, who impressed the judges throughout the night with her poise, eloquence, and clarity of vision on addressing youth unemployment in Ghana, emerged the victor.

The winner received a sleek 2025 model saloon car from a major local dealership and a cash prize package estimated to be over GHS 20,000, plus a full educational scholarship for a postgraduate programme.

Akosua’s winning edge was her commitment to a practical social intervention project dubbed the “4E Initiative: Empowering Youth Through Enterprise and Education.”

During the Intellectual Round, she presented data showing that while Ghana’s official unemployment rate stands around 13.4% (according to the Ghana Statistical Service, 2025 Q2 data), the figure for youth (aged 15-35) in urban areas often exceeds 25%.

Her 4E plan involves establishing skills training hubs focused on vocational and digital expertise, aiming to train 500 young women in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions within her year of reign.

NPP Elections Committee rejects claims of disenfranchisement ahead of primaries

0

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee has clarified that no eligible party member has been denied the right to participate in the upcoming 2026 presidential primaries.

Secretary to the Committee, William Yamoah, speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Saturday, November 22, dismissed claims of deliberate disenfranchisement, stressing that only individuals who have forfeited their membership under the party’s constitution are barred from voting.

“Article 3(9) of the NPP constitution clearly states that any member who contests an election as an independent candidate against an officially sponsored NPP candidate, or publicly supports a rival party or independent candidate, automatically loses their membership,” Yamoah explained.

He emphasised that such individuals, and only those individuals, are excluded from the electoral process, rejecting suggestions that the Committee is preventing delegates from taking part in the primaries.

The clarification follows a petition from the NPP’s USA branch, urging the party’s National Executive Committee to reconsider the ban on proxy voting for the 2026 presidential primaries.

While the Elections Committee has directed that all delegates must be physically present on voting day to ensure transparency, NPP USA Chairperson Yaa Frimpomaa Amponsah argued that proxy voting is a lawful provision under Ghana’s electoral regulations. She warned that the ban could disenfranchise members who may be unable to travel.

66-year-old farmer allegedly murdered in his farm at Dadiesoaba-Kaniago

0

Kwaku Poku, a 66-year-old farmer, has been found murdered in his farm at Kaniago near Dadiesoaba in the Ahafo Region.

Kwame Anane, the deceased’s younger brother, told Adom News that the family received the news in the morning and rushed to the farm, only to discover Kwaku Poku had been stabbed multiple times around his neck.

According to Anane, the family promptly reported the incident to the Goaso Police Station.

Another family member, Nana Adwoa, expressed shock over the death of her uncle and appealed to the police to conduct a thorough investigation to apprehend the perpetrator.

She added that the family is currently living in fear and called on the authorities to enhance security in the area.

The Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, together with the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has paid a working visit to the abandoned 60-bed Euroget Salaga District Hospital.

Addressing the traditional elders of Salaga South, the health minister stated that he had earlier paid a courtesy call on the Yagbonwura before proceeding to Bole.

He stressed that his visit was not merely symbolic ahead of the upcoming funeral but a demonstration of government’s commitment to resolving longstanding issues.

He expressed profound appreciation to the traditional leaders for their leadership and for mobilizing a team to clear and maintain the neglected hospital premises.

Akandoh also commended the Salaga South MP, Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, for her persistent advocacy regarding the hospital project.

According to him, having served four terms in Parliament, he can easily identify a dedicated and hardworking MP and the Salaga South legislator certainly fits that description.

He revealed that the hospital project, which commenced as far back as 2010, had all its associated components completed, making its abandonment deeply unfortunate.

The minister described his visit to the site as saddening but assured the chiefs and people of the area that visible changes would soon follow.

He reiterated that it is the firm policy of the President not to abandon any inherited projects, emphasizing that he has received clear instructions to ensure their completion.

Akandoh further noted that it would be irresponsible on his part if the President were to inquire about the state of the facility and he had no knowledge of it.

He explained that he found it necessary to inspect the hospital personally so he could brief the President appropriately.

The health minister expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received, admitting that he was nearly emotional listening to the words of encouragement from the elders.

He concluded by urging them to consider him as one of their own.

Trademark Africa advocates harmonised standards to boost regional trade

0

Midaye  Koissi – Principal Programme Officer for Quality and Standards at the ECOWAS Commission.

Trademark Africa has called for the urgent harmonisation of food safety and plant health standards across the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to dismantle technical barriers and facilitate seamless cross-border trade.

Ms. Anthe Vrijilandt, Director Strategy and Partnership at the Trademark Africa, highlighted the persistent challenges traders face, including lengthy delays and goods perishing at borders due to fragmentation standards and regulations.

She said this at a crucial initiative, highlighted by the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor SPS/TBT Forum held in Accra from November 19-21, 2025.

The Forum aimed to dismantle technical barriers to trade (TBT) and facilitate seamless cross-border commerce along the region’s busiest artery.

The ongoing three-day meeting is expected to yield a definitive roadmap to drive the harmonisation agenda forward.

The event saw attendance from heads of standards regulatory bodies within the West-African deliberate on how harmonise standards ensure consistency on quality assurance in the sub-region.

She emphasised that while the region, particularly Ghana, often enjoyed food surplus, these goods frequently failed to reach neighbouring markets due to inconsistent regulations and a lack of mutual recognition of laboratory tests.

“You cannot get the food easily across borders because of those issues. They’re stopped at the borders, sometimes even for two, three weeks. Now if you leave bananas for three weeks at the border, you tell me what happens to them,” she said.

She called for mutual recognition, where a test in one country was trusted by all, or full harmonisation, where all member states adopt identical standards.

“Trade is about trust. I trust your bananas, I trust your tomatoes. If it’s not the case, then we cannot trade,” she added.

The Abidjan-Lagos Corridor, linking Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria, is a vital economic route, handling over 70 per cent of the ECOWAS Gross Domestic Product and more than 50 million tonnes of freight annually.

Despite this significance, the corridor is notorious for delays and high trade transaction costs.

According to the World Bank, the economic cost of trade compliance in Sub-Saharan Africa is the highest in the world.

It can be two or three times more expensive to trade within Africa than with the rest of the world, largely due to  cumbersome border procedures and regulatory divergence.

A study by the African Development Bank (AfDB) found that customs and administrative procedures at borders could account for up to 30-40 per person cent of the total time required to transport goods.

Mr. Midaye  Koissi,  Principal Programme Officer for Quality and Standards at the ECOWAS Commission, identified the duplication of quality controls as a major impediment to trade along critical corridors like the Abidjan-Lagos route.

“The product must be tested in Ghana first. And when it reached Cote d’Ivoire, the product must be also tested. That brings duplication that costs money for the traders and makes goods stay at the borders,” he said.

He revealed that the ECOWAS Commission has a dedicated committee working on standard harmonisation, which, once approved, would allow goods certified in one member state to be recognised across the region.

The partnership with Trademark Africa, he noted, is aimed at leveraging the organisation’s proven expertise from East Africa to develop and implement a concrete action plan.

He further disclosed that the government will distribute water pumps to farmers across the country to enhance productivity and support increased output.

As part of efforts to modernise the sector, Dumelo also announced the establishment of a 50-farm service centres initiative, designed to give farmers quick access to essential equipment and mechanised services.

Medeama remain top on 22 points, while Bechem United sit 14th with 10 points Medeama remain top on 22 points, while Bechem United sit 14th with 10 points

Medeama were unable to extend their lead at the summit of the Ghana Premier League after being held to a goalless draw by Bechem United at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa on Saturday afternoon.

The Mauve and Yellow created the better chances but lacked the finishing touch to convert their dominance. The dropped points now leave the leaders vulnerable, with at least three teams capable of overtaking them depending on results elsewhere this weekend.

Head coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side now sit one point ahead of Heart of Lions and three clear of Asante Kotoko, whom they face in a crucial top-of-the-table encounter next weekend.

Bechem United kept their discipline throughout, neutralising the impact of Kelvin Nkrumah and Prince Owusu. Medeama nearly snatched victory late on when Augustine Okrah’s powerful strike rattled the lower part of the right post.

Bechem goalkeeper Benjamin Asiedu Kwesi was outstanding, producing several key saves with sharp reflexes. Salim Adams of Medeama earned the Most Valuable Player award for his tireless effort in midfield.

Medeama remain top on 22 points, while Bechem United sit 14th with 10 points.

If I were a woman I will never agree to marry a man that proposes 50-50 for our finances

A Nigerian man, Joseph Brendan, has said women shouldn’t marry men that propose 50/50 split.

According to him, women should only agree to the formula if they plan on not having children.

“If I were a babe I will never agree to marry a man that proposes 50-50 for our finances. I will only agree to that if we agree that we are not having kids. Because as long as I will get pregnant, birth and care for a child, to the gutters with that 50-50 nonsense,” he wrote on Friday.

Infrastructure development, quality service top citizens’ expectation in new GSS report

By Philip Tengzu

Wa, (UW/R), Nov. 22, GNA – The Governance Series Wave 2, a new survey report by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), has revealed a high citizen demand for infrastructure development and quality service delivery.

It revealed that 52.6 per cent of the participants expected infrastructure development and quality service within the next six months, while 25.9 per cent expected economic stability, job creation and business support.

Others were good governance and accountability, nine per cent; environmental protection and sanitation, 5.3 per cent; safety, security and law enforcement, 6.2 per cent; while social welfare and support for the vulnerable was 0.3.

Mr John Gambo, the Upper West Regional Statistician, presented the survey findings at a stakeholder engagement in Wa to mark the 2025 African Statistics Day.

The engagement was to, among other things, enable stakeholders share experiences, best practices, and lessons in leveraging innovation to improve data quality, timeliness, and relevance.

The survey compared two survey findings – Wave 1 (first survey conducted in 2024) and Wave 2 (second survey conducted in 2025).

It sampled 15,400 selected households from the 2021 population and Housing Census (PHC), with 7,248 and 5,640 interviews completed in Wave 1 and 2, respectively.

On payment of bribes, the report indicated that 14.3 per cent of the respondents in Wave 2 said they gave gifts to public officials compared to 18.4 per cent in Wave 1.

The gifts given included: favours, money, valuables, land or other goods, and food, drinks and animals, with money being the highest – 85.2 per cent in Wave 1 and 72.1 per cent in Wave 2.

The data also showed that some of the gifts were requested by the public official while others were unsolicited.

The survey recommended increased citizen engagement at all levels to align policies with people’s priorities

It called for measures to protect persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, who were most exposed to informal payments, through the introduction of priority service lanes and accessibility protocols.

The survey also stressed the need to institute clear rules on gifts and conflict of interest for public officers, among others.

The African Statistics Day was established in 1990 by the Conference of African Ministers for Planning and Economic Development, under the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

It was to raise awareness about the importance of statistics in economic and social development, and promote the use and improvement of reliable statistical systems across African nations.

This year’s commemoration was on the theme: “Leveraging innovations in data and statistics to promote a just, peaceful, inclusive and prosperous society for Africans.”

Mr Gambo emphasised the importance of informed policy-making and evidence-based planning through high-quality data in addressing citizens’ needs.

He explained that the theme “challenges us to think bigger, to be more creative, and to deepen our commitment to equity and progress.”

Mr Salifu Issifu Kanton, the Executive Director, Community Development Alliance, encouraged communities to desist from giving gifts in appreciation of services provided.

He indicated that some community leaders gave animals and other items to public and private officials for service provided, but said those services were not privileges.
