Coldplay fan who posted video capturing alleged affair of Astronomer CEO and firm

A video captured during Coldplay’s concert in Boston has gone viral after a fan unknowingly filmed a tech CEO and his HR chief embracing on the venue’s giant screen, triggering allegations of infidelity and sparking widespread outrage online.

Grace Springer, a 28-year-old fan from New Jersey, recorded the moment during the band’s performance at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday night and shared it on TikTok. The clip showed Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the company’s Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot wrapped in a close embrace as Coldplay frontman Chris Martin’s “kiss cam” segment played out before the crowd.

As the camera zoomed in on the pair, Martin jokingly commented to the audience, “Oh look at these two,” before noting, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re very shy,” as Byron suddenly ducked behind a barrier and Cabot turned away and covered her face. The crowd responded with laughter, but the incident quickly took a more serious turn online.

Springer said she was unaware of the pair’s identities when she posted the clip. “I had no idea who the couple was,” she told The U.S. Sun. “Just thought I caught an interesting reaction to the kiss cam and decided to post it.”

She expressed some regret for the fallout but defended her decision to post the video. “A part of me feels bad for turning these people’s lives upside down, but, play stupid games… win stupid prizes,” she said. “I hope their partners can heal from this and get a second chance at the happiness they deserve.”

Within hours, the video garnered millions of views, reaching over 46 million by Friday morning with 4.9 million likes. Online users swiftly identified Byron and Cabot, both of whom work at Astronomer, a software firm valued at $1.3 billion.

Byron has served as CEO of the Cincinnati-based company since July 2023, while Cabot joined as Chief People Officer nine months ago. On her LinkedIn profile, Cabot describes herself as someone who “wins trust with employees of all levels,” while Byron previously praised her as a “proven leader” with “exceptional leadership and deep expertise in talent management.”

The video’s viral status has led to criticism across social media, with many condemning the duo for their apparent public display of affection. One user wrote, “Sorry for the wife but glad they’re being exposed and embarrassed.” Another added, “They are both incredibly stupid, sorry. Why would you go to a concert of all places if you are having an affair.”

In the days since the footage spread, several fake posts and unverified statements have circulated online. However, sources close to the concert’s production insisted that the moment was not staged. “The cameraman was scanning the crowd at random. There’s an editor backstage selecting which camera to put on screen. This situation would have been totally random,” one insider told The U.S. Sun.

Another crew member said, “It’s a shtick Chris [Martin] does every show. Their reaction made it much worse – very cringey. Not sure what they were thinking. Maybe they thought the odds of being caught on camera in a crowd of 50,000 were low.”

Neither Byron nor Cabot has publicly responded to the accusations.

GHACMA urges expansion of restorative justice in Ghana

0

By Eric Appah Marfo

Accra, July 18, GNA – The Ghana Association of Certified Mediators and Arbitrators (GHACMA) has called for the expansion of Victim-Offender Mediation (VOM) and other Restorative Justice (RJ) approaches within Ghana’s justice system.

Speaking at a forum in Accra, Mr. Martin C. Nwosu, Chair of GHACMA’s Restorative Justice Committee, described RJ as a vital reform to ease the burden on Ghana’s overstretched criminal justice system.

“Our courts are inundated with cases—some so minor they do not merit full trials.

“Under restorative justice, both the victim and the offender can sit down, discuss the harm caused, and agree on how to make amends. This is more beneficial than simply punishing the offender,” he said.

The seminar was organised by GHACMA in collaboration with the Centre for African Peace and Conflict Resolution (CAPCR), and California State University, Sacramento.

It brought together stakeholders from the judiciary, law enforcement, academia, civil society, and community organisations.

GHACMA and CAPCR are advocating for greater public awareness, training for justice actors, the establishment of private mediation centres, and policy reforms to institutionalise RJ within Ghana’s criminal justice framework.

Mr. Nwosu criticised the retributive nature of the current system, noting that victims are often sidelined once the State assumes prosecution, while offenders face stigma and exclusion post-sentence, increasing the risk of reoffending.

He argued that minor cases such as non-aggravated assault and property damage congest courtrooms without delivering meaningful outcomes.

“A man slaps another. He’s fined or jailed. But what has the victim gained? Restorative justice allows the parties to talk, reconcile, and continue coexisting in peace,” Mr. Nwosu illustrated.

He cited Ghana’s Courts Act (Section 73) and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act, 2010 (Section 64) as existing legal provisions for RJ, but noted that judicial discretion to refer cases to mediation is rarely exercised and often delayed.

“Referrals only happen after the first court appearance, which can take up to two or three months—causing unnecessary delay.”

Mr. Nwosu called for RJ to be institutionalised at pre-trial, trial, and post-trial stages to improve accessibility and flexibility.

Professor Ernest Uwazie, Director of CAPCR, said RJ focuses on repairing harm, restoring victims, rehabilitating offenders, and reintegrating both parties into society.

“It is especially crucial in preventing reoffending by addressing root causes like social exclusion and trauma.”

He outlined RJ mechanisms such as victim-offender mediation, peacemaking circles, family group conferencing, and community reparation boards, while cautioning that RJ must be part of a broader strategy involving investment in education, health, and youth employment.

Mr. William Pitt, Acting Chair of GHACMA’s Interim Management Committee, hailed the seminar as a pivotal step in advancing justice reform.

He expressed confidence that the gathering would foster bold dialogue, enhance awareness, and empower attendees to champion restorative approaches.

Mr. Pitt emphasised the need for Ghana to re-examine its justice system—not solely through the lens of punishment and legal formalities, but with a focus on empathy, healing, and reintegration.

Restorative justice, he noted, is more than a framework; it is a transformative movement reshaping justice across societies, institutions, and global communities.

He stated that his administration has also duly rewarded Ashanti Region natives who qualify to occupy key government positions to support the government to accelerate national growth.

The Upper West Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has intercepted a large cache of chemical substances suspected to be sodium cyanide along the banks of the Black Volta River.

A total of 250 drums containing the suspected chemicals were discovered at Zikpiri, where they had been stockpiled near the river and were reportedly ready to be transported to neighbouring Burkina Faso.

The consignment was uncovered by a team of GIS officers from the Nadowli District Command during a patrol operation along unapproved border routes in the area.

Press release

In a statement issued by the Regional Public Affairs Unit of the GIS, the drums have since been moved to the Nadowli Police Station for safekeeping and further examination by the appropriate authorities.

The statement added that the Command has activated its intelligence network to identify and apprehend those behind the illicit operation.

The interception reportedly took place on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at approximately 1:45 p.m.

The statement also noted that since taking office, the Upper West Regional Commander of GIS, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI) Justice Bosomtwi-Ayensu, has instituted a 24-hour manning system at all known unapproved border routes in the region, alongside routine patrols to combat cross-border criminal activities.

Warning

The GIS has issued a strong warning to individuals engaged in illegal cross-border dealings, stressing that it remains committed to cracking down on such activities.

“We caution the general public to desist from any form of cross-border crime. The few recalcitrant persons whose livelihood depends on illegal activities along our territorial borders must either stop or be stopped. There are no ‘ifs’ or ‘buts’,” the statement warned.

Expand scholarships to boost healthcare training – Dr Tobbin appeals to government

Nana Samuel Amo Tobbin (R) with Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang (M) Nana Samuel Amo Tobbin (R) with Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang (M)

The founder and chancellor of Entrance University College of Health Sciences (EUCHS), Dr Nana Samuel Amo Tobbin, has urged the government to extend its investment efforts to private universities and increase scholarship opportunities to make high-quality healthcare education more accessible to Ghanaians.

He stated that sustainable funding and scholarship programmes would allow brilliant but financially challenged students to pursue medical education within the country.

Speaking at the inauguration of the university’s newly established Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and a dental hospital, Dr Tobbin emphasised the value of training students locally, highlighting its economic benefits.

“Training our students here at home will ensure that the funds remain within the country and contribute to supporting our local communities,” he is quoted to have said by graphic.com.gh

The inauguration, held at Spintex Road in Accra on July 14, 2025, took place under the theme: “Training the Next Generation of Health Professionals.”

The event was launched by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and dedicated by the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye.

It was also attended by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, along with religious leaders, students, faculty members, and foreign partners from across the sub-region.

Speaking at the event, the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering collaboration and partnerships with the private health sector in order to build a stronger and more resilient healthcare system for the country.

She also commended the institution for becoming the first private tertiary establishment in Ghana to set up a medical and dental school.

“This is a remarkable achievement, especially considering the rigorous standards required to set up such institutions,” she said.

She further praised the Chancellor, Dr Samuel Amo Tobbin, the faculty, and staff for their dedication to excellence, urging them to continue striving for quality education and service.

“With the establishment of this dental school and hospital, there should be a mutually beneficial relationship between the students and the community. This facility must not only provide world-class dental training but also offer specialised care to the people of Spintex and beyond,” she further added.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang described Entrance University as a shining example of the potential within the private tertiary sector, urging other private institutions to follow its lead.

Dr Tobbin added that many Ghanaian students who pursued medical and dental education abroad often faced cultural and language barriers that hindered their ability to pass licensure examinations upon their return.

“These barriers are not the fault of the students but a consequence of their exposure to different educational environments. By training our students here at home, we ensure that the funds remain within the country and contribute to supporting our local communities,” Graphic Online quoted him as saying.

Ahanta West MP Takes Ahanta Language To The Classroom

0

Mavis Kuukua Bissue speaking at the event

Ahanta, one of Ghana’s most at-risk indigenous languages, is now to be studied in school following an initiative introduced by the Member of Parliament for the Ahanta West Constituency, Mavis Kuukua Bissue.

The Ahanta Language Renaissance Project (ALRP), a grassroot driven initiative started by Madam Bissue, has now launched the pilot phase starting in the Ahanta West Municipality.

Her motivation, in her welcome address at the launch of the initiative, was her personal story of not having the opportunity to learn the Ahanta language as a child despite being born to an Ahanta mother and father.

“I am an example of the dangers that lie ahead if we fail as a country to document and teach our indigenous languages. Despite being born to an Ahanta father and mother, I did not have the benefit of being taught the language at home or in school,” she said.

The Ahanta language, also known as Ayinda, is a Central Tano language within the Kwa branch of the Niger-Congo language family, spoken by the Ahanta people in the Western Region. It is similar to languages like Nzema, Brosa, Evalue and other languages that are spoken in south Eastern Ivory Coast.

For generations, this language has served as a medium of identity, oral history, governance, and spirituality for the Ahanta people.

As a result of long-standing marginalisation and the absence of state-led preservation efforts, the Ayinda language is now endangered, with fewer children speaking or understanding their ancestral tongue.

It has now been identified as one of nearly 40 indigenous Ghanaian languages at risk of extinction.

The ALRP, according to madam Bissue, builds on the foundational work done by the Ahanta Bible Project which has already worked with the Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation to produce alphabets and an orthography based on which the bible has been translated into Ahanta.

Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, speaking as a guest of honour, said this project was a revolutionary project that would help protect one of the largest indigenous languages spoken in the region.

“Language is more than a means of communication; it embodies the worldview, values, history, and soul of a people. As a region proud of its cultural diversity, we must support projects like the Ahanta Language Renaissance Project, ensuring no part of our heritage is left behind,” he said.

Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah spoke highly of the initiative and its potential to address historical injustices.

According to him, the Ahanta people, a sister to the Nzemas, where he is MP, are a formidable group whose contribution to Ghana’s pre-colonial history should not be allowed to die with their language.

He said, “Ahantas are a very brave and dynamic group of people, their history is rich. If you are an Ahanta, you have every reason to be proud. Your people stood their grounds against European imperialists like the Dutch. Ahantas fought to maintain much of the lands of what is now the Western Region and it is not right that the legacy of such a group is allowed to die. This initiative led by your courageous MP is in the right direction and would help revive this beautiful language and help you restore your history and culture”.

The ALRP has already started in the 20 schools under the pilot in the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly. The project would continue to train more teachers in the coming months to expand the number of schools under the pilot.

The project, led by the MP, would engage the University of Education in Winneba to draw up the long-term curriculum that would ensure the formalisation of the language in basic and Senior High Schools (SHS).

“Let us teach our children not only to read and write, but to remember. To remember who they are. To remember the voices of their ancestors. To remember that their language is not a barrier, but a bridge ó a bridge to identity, to opportunity, and to the future,” Madam Bissue concluded.

ICU’s 6th national youth quadrennial delegates’ conference held

0

The 6th National Youth Quadrennial Delegates conference of the Industrial Commercial Workers Union (ICU) was yesterday held in Tema

The conference is a prelude to the 12th Quadrennial Delegates’ Conference of the National Union which serves as a forum for stock-taking on the activities of the National Youth Committee for the past four (4) years, and reconstitute the National Youth Executive for the ensuing quadrennial conference.

Delivering the keynote address, the General Secretary of Industrial Commercial Workers Union (ICU), Mr Morgan Ayawine, said the Union was expected to nurture and groom the youth to play productive and responsible roles not only at the workplace but at the national level as well.

With a full-fledged Education Department with capable human resources, Mr Ayawine said, the Union had the capacity to shape and mentor young generation through different forms of trade union training and retraining programmes.

“Some youth in our part of the world today, aspire to reach the highest point in whatever positions they find themselves without subjecting themselves to adequate training necessary to build and prepare them for such positions. This trend tends to impact negatively not only on their performance but the productivity of their organisations,” Mr Ayawine lamented.

“It is important that, as future leaders, you take part in such training programmes that may be designed to broaden your knowledge and skills in trade unionism and the world of work amidst its complexities,” he advised.

Mr Ayawine urged the youth, both in and outside of trade unions, not to indulge in unproductive activities especially social vices arising out of youthful exuberance that would negatively impact their future progress.

Rather, he advised this group to guard themselves against any conduct or practices that would jeopardise their future ascension to higher positions of responsibility, as every workplace environment holds you accountable for the productive outcomes of its operations.

Mr Ayawine lamented about the current rate of youth unemployment which he said: “is of grave concern to us as a trade union which advocates for job creation and sustainable employment for the youth”.

He appealed to the government to create an enabling environment for businesses and industry within the public and private sectors to create more and sustainable jobs to absorb the teeming unemployed youth to protect and secure their future.

“Once we have majority of our youth in gainful employment, the national economy would witness a quick turnaround that ensures massive development of our country,” he said.

The Head of Youth and Gender Desk of ICU, Mrs Esinam Afua Poku, assured that her leadership would work hard to promote gender equity and empower the youth across all sectors of the organisation.

Over the past four years, she said the desk has implemented numerous programmes and advocacy initiatives aimed at strengthening the participation of women and young people in decision-making, capacity building, leadership development, and social transformation.

No decision yet on repurposing National Cathedral site

Felix Kwakye Ofosu is Minister of State in Charge of Government Communication Felix Kwakye Ofosu is Minister of State in Charge of Government Communication

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed claims that the John Dramani Mahama-led administration intends to repurpose the stalled National Cathedral project into a Cultural Convention Site.

Speaking to the media on Friday, July 18, 2025, Kwakye Ofosu clarified that although a proposal suggesting an alternative use for the site had been submitted to the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, no decision had been made by President Mahama.

“President Mahama has not taken any such decision. What happened is that the 24-Hour Secretariat received a proposal from an entity suggesting how the site could be used, but no such decision has been made by President Mahama,” he stated.

He added that the government was still awaiting the outcome of a forensic audit into the National Cathedral project and the activities of its Secretariat before making any final decision.

“As I indicated, once the forensic audit is completed and all relevant matters are clearly understood, a firm decision will be made regarding the future of the site,” he said.

The National Cathedral project was first announced by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017 as a non-denominational Christian worship centre, intended to serve as a national place of prayer and a symbol of unity.

However, the project has since stalled amid funding challenges and concerns over governance and accountability.

Ghana endorses pan-African visa-free travel

0

Ghana’s government has thrown its weight behind a campaign to scrap visa requirements for Africans travelling across their own continent.

The Trans African Tourism and Unity Campaign received official backing from Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs this week, marking a major boost for the initiative.

The campaign wants to make it easier for Africans to visit other African countries without needing visas. Currently, many Africans face lengthy visa processes and high costs when travelling within Africa.

Ras Mubarak, a well-known broadcaster and former Member of Parliament, is leading the campaign. He believes removing visa barriers will boost tourism, trade and help African countries work together better.

“We are deeply honoured by the Government of Ghana’s endorsement, which strengthens our resolve to champion a visa-free Africa,” Mubarak said. “This is a historic step toward unlocking the immense potential of our continent’s cultural and economic diversity.”

The plan also fits with the African Union’s long-term vision for the continent, known as Agenda 2063, which aims to create a more united and prosperous Africa.

Also, several major media companies have already signed up to support the campaign, including Ghana’s Graphic Communications Group, Nigeria’s New Mail online, EIB Network, Woezor TV, Sierra Leone’s Eyewitness News, and Asaase Radio. More media partners are expected to join next week, helping spread the word about the campaign across Africa.

Tinny firmly stated that no artiste is compelled to help another Tinny firmly stated that no artiste is compelled to help another

Renowned Ghanaian hiplife artiste, Nii Addo Quayno, also known as Tinny, has stated that he has no obligation to help rising rappers and artistes in the industry.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, Tinny’s attention was brought to some comments by some upcoming Ghanaian acts that he does not support them in any way.

In response, Tinny firmly stated that no artiste is compelled to help another and that success is possible independently, with or without his involvement.

“Is it by force to help or mentor someone? Even me, who helped me? Nobody featured me before I could come into this industry.

“So why are they waiting for me?… You can do it without anybody. Believe in yourself, you can do it without Tinny,” he asserted.

Tinny clarified that he does assist upcoming acts, but such help is given voluntarily.

“I don’t feel pressured to help anyone. Those I’ve helped, they know. It’s not by force. I also believe in time. Eventually, they will make it,” he added.

He highlighted the contributions he makes through performances and events: “I do programs, I do shows, I put them on. So I do a lot for them.”

He cited some other music icons, questioning why he is being pressured.

“I remember someone pointed out that Samini, Sarkodie and others brought people on, so what about me? And I replied, Bob Marley, Amakye Dede and Michael Jackson, who did they help? So it’s not by force for me,” he said.

Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has been instructed by Interior Minister Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka to begin pursuing anybody involved in acts of violence during the 2020 and 2024 elections.

He asserts that the Ghana Police Service (GPS) must put out great effort to address electoral violence in the nation since the government does not tolerate any kind of violence.

He reminded the IGP of the impending by-election in Akwatia and the necessity of taking preventative action to identify any potential violent outbursts.

“I take this opportunity to remind you of the electoral violence in 2020 and 2024. I have seen the report, and our expectation is nothing short of swift prosecution.

“I also encourage you to collaborate with the Attorney-General’s Department and begin swift prosecution. The government and the party are solidly behind you,” the Minister is quoted as saying by myjoyonline.com.

“Ghana has enjoyed relatively peaceful elections since 1992. However, the recent violence in the Ablekuma North elections exposes certain weaknesses that we must address. You and your team must go through all the evidence at your disposal and deal with those involved. Don’t spare anyone.”

The call was made by Mr. Muntaka on Friday, July 18, during the 17th Regional Commanders Conference held at the National Police Headquarters in Accra.

Mr. Muntaka recently disclosed in his “Government Accountability Series” that the IGP had officially filed thorough reports on the violent episodes that tainted Ghana’s general election.

The IGP reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to combating all types of criminal activity in his speech.

Mr. Yohuno claimed that the administration had achieved several victories during his brief tenure in office, such as the 2020 and 2024 Galamsey fights.

GH¢38m in failed MoMo transfers remain unaccounted for – Presidency

0

The National Cathedral project is one of many being investigated under the ORAL Initiative The National Cathedral project is one of many being investigated under the ORAL Initiative

Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has disclosed that a forensic audit into the National Cathedral project has uncovered over GH¢38 million in mobile money transactions that remain unreconciled due to failed or unsuccessful transfers.

Speaking to the media in Accra on July 18, 2025, Kwakye Ofosu indicated that the audit revealed serious financial irregularities, particularly in the handling of mobile money transactions by the Cathedral Secretariat.

“These transactions, amounting to more than GH¢38 million, were flagged as either failed or unsuccessful and have not been properly reconciled,” he said.

He stated that the audit further revealed overlapping responsibilities and payments between the Nehemiah Group and Kubik Maltbie, a separate subcontractor.

Despite the Nehemiah Group being tasked with coordination and oversight of Phase 1 of the project, Kubik Maltbie was also contracted for similar services at a cost of US$592,500. This amount represents approximately 87% of the total US$675,000 paid to the Nehemiah Group during the same period.

“This indicates a clear case of paying two entities for the same work, with no clarity on who was actually executing the tasks and who may have received government funds unjustifiably,” Kwakye Ofosu said.

Additionally, the audit flagged a further US$24,498.17 paid to the Nehemiah Group in reimbursable expenses for activities unrelated to construction oversight, highlighting further inefficiencies in the project’s financial management.

“These findings reflect poorly on project oversight and raise broader concerns about accountability and the effective use of public resources on a project of such national significance,” he emphasised.

Kwakye Ofosu assured the public that government will act on the audit findings and ensure full accountability.

“The National Cathedral project is one of many being investigated under the ORAL Initiative. Once the forensic audit findings are finalized, they will add to the body of evidence under review. Based on the outcome, anyone found culpable will be held accountable,” he concluded.

Noni Madueke joins Arsenal in £52m deal from Chelsea

Arteta (L), Madueke (M) and Andrea Berta (R) during the contract signing Arteta (L), Madueke (M) and Andrea Berta (R) during the contract signing

Arsenal have officially confirmed the signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea in a deal that could rise to £52 million, with an initial fee believed to be around £48 million.

The 23-year-old winger, born in north London, becomes the Gunners’ fourth signing of the summer transfer window, joining Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard as part of a summer spending spree that has now surpassed £100 million.

Madueke has agreed a five-year contract and is seen as a major boost to Mikel Arteta’s attacking options as Arsenal prepare for a fresh Premier League title push.

Sporting director Andrea Berta led negotiations with Chelsea, while Arteta is said to have played a key role in convincing Madueke to make the switch across London.

Arsenal had tracked the winger for years, impressed by his ability to beat defenders one-on-one and his strong injury record.

The England international played a vital role for Chelsea last season, helping Enzo Maresca’s side secure a top-four finish, win the UEFA Conference League, and lift the Club World Cup, though he left the squad on the eve of the final to undergo his Arsenal medical.

Due to his summer Club World Cup commitments, Madueke is owed time off and will link up with his new teammates in August 2025, after Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Asia. He will wear the number 20 shirt.

Majority Leader refutes “dictatorship and gagging” assertions by Minority Caucus

By Godwill Arthur-Mensah

Accra, July 18, GNA-Mr Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, has defended the Business Committee of Parliament’s decision to comply with the time allocations for asking questions and for reading statements in the House.

He said that decision would help reduce the duration spent in the Chamber.

During a debate on the Business Statement for week eight, ending Friday, July 25, 2025, Mr Ayariga, Chairman of the Business Committee, said the decision was intended to safeguard the health and wellbeing of Members of Parliament (MPs).

“This is to reduce the burden and stress on MPs because sitting for long hours and deep into the night sometimes closing at 10 pm and 11 pm has serious health implications on our health.

“At one point when we were considering the Scholarships Authority Bill, I received text messages from MPs, begging me to come and save them because of the long hours they have been sitting.

“So, I’m not being a dictator or suppressing anyone, but for the sake of our health and to stop losing colleagues all of a sudden,”Mr Ayariga stated.

The proposal from the Committee was that an hour is to be spent on asking and answering questions each day while an hour will be used for reading statements with an average of three statements from MPs per day.

Then, three hours reserved for doing government business, bringing the total hours for parliamentary sitting per day to five hours.

The Majority Leader indicated that those time allocations had been clearly spelt out in the Standing Orders 77(2), 94 and 216 respectively.

Earlier, Professor Kingsley Nyarko, the Member for Kwadaso, expressed some reservations about the recommendations in the Business Statement and asked the leadership of the House to allow MPs to exercise their oversight over the executive arm of government to promote transparency and accountability.

George Spencer Quaye

The newly appointed Chairman of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), George Spencer Quaye, has begun his tenure by reaching out to two of his predecessors for strategic consultations in preparation for his first official board meeting.

The engagement, held ahead of the new board’s inaugural meeting, focused on key themes such as enhancing public service delivery, strengthening regulatory systems to improve road safety, adopting modern technologies in DVLA operations, and aligning the Authority’s mandate with Ghana’s broader national development goals.

He explained that the knowledge shared by his predecessors will be instrumental in the government’s broader measures to reset the country.

“The insights shared by Brigadier General Quartey and Lawyer Davies will be instrumental as we embark on this journey of transformation in resetting Ghana,” he said.

He reiterated his commitment to fostering stronger collaboration with both public and private stakeholders, and added that he envisions the DVLA as playing a pivotal role in national progress.

“We are not just managing licences and vehicle registrations; we are contributing to the safety, efficiency and prosperity of our beloved nation,” he noted.

As Ghana positions itself as a regional leader in innovation and public sector excellence, Mr. Quaye’s leadership sets the tone for a DVLA that is modern, responsive, and driven by service, integrity, and national pride.

Western North NDC pledges to fight illegal mining in the region

0

By Isaac Kwaku Gyedu

Wiawso (WN/R), July 18, GNA – The Western North Regional Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged its commitment to helping the government to fight illegal mining (galamsey) and illegal logging in forest reserves in the region.

Mr Michael Aidoo, the Western North Regional Chairman for NDC, who said this at a press conference, stated that the prevalence of illegal mining in some districts in the region had become an environmental issue that needed the commitments of all to tackle.

He added that unlike the chaotic and compromised efforts of the past, the President John Dramani Mahama administration had instituted a strategic and common approach to protect lands and water bodies from illegal mining, while providing alternative livelihoods to those affected.

“The viral videos to implicate the Suaman District Chief Executive, Vasco Obour, of illegal mining activities using the DRIP machines for the operation, per our multiple investigations revealed it was propaganda, deceptive and untrue allegations,” Mr Aidoo said.

He said the government focus was on what it promised Ghanaians, saying; “We will not be distracted by propaganda, instead, we will continue to build roads, create jobs, improve education, and fight illegal mining in a structured and fair manner.”

He appealed to the traditional authorities, the media, and other relevant stakeholders in the region to join forces with the government to fight illegal mining menace in the area.

Mr Aidoo also used the opportunity to express profound appreciation to all stakeholders, traditional rulers, the clergy, youth groups, and all the well-meaning residents of the region for the successful and colourful hosting of President Mahama during his Thank You Tour of the region.

Global price drop don’t justify soft deal for Ghana’s lithium agreement

0

Policy analyst Bright Simons Policy analyst Bright Simons

Policy analyst Bright Simons has questioned the rationale behind the government’s decision to amend the lease terms for Ghana’s first lithium mine, located at Ewoyaa in the Central Region.

The project, operated by Atlantic Lithium, had previously sparked public backlash after critics described the original agreement as overly generous to the company and not sufficiently beneficial to Ghana.

Under the initial deal, Ghana was to receive a 10% royalty and a 13% carried interest (equity) in the project. However, Simons mentioned that Atlantic is now reportedly lobbying to reduce the royalty to 5%, slash corporate taxes, and eliminate or significantly reduce other levies, prompting renewed concerns about the government’s management of the country’s critical mineral resources.

In response to the development, Bright Simons, in a social media post on July 18, 2025, questioned the logic behind the proposed changes.

“If 10% royalty and standard taxes were labelled ‘colonial’ by critics last year, what would 5% and tax waivers be called, economic treason?” he asked.

Simons also contested the narrative that Atlantic is citing a drop in global lithium prices to justify its request for revised terms, pointing instead to pricing data and operational delays that began before the current market downturn.

“They claim price drops have forced a pause, but I visited the mine last year and local residents said the site had already been inactive. The problems go beyond prices, they’re facing funding delays from their main partner, Piedmont, and struggling to secure off-taker contracts,” Simons explained.

He also highlighted market data that supports his skepticism.

He mentioned that while the price of spodumene concentrate, the lithium-bearing ore Atlantic plans to export, has dropped to $711 from previous highs, it remains comparable to levels recorded when the company was actively lobbying for parliamentary ratification of its lease last year.

“There’s been virtually no significant change in the pricing landscape from August 2024 to now. So why the sudden rush to lower Ghana’s share?” Simons asked.

“If Parliament had approved the lease last November when the price was $771, the mine still wouldn’t have been built,” the policy analyst said.

Bright Simons further raised concerns about the lack of transparency in the decision-making process and called on the government to publish the Mines Minister’s advisory memo to Cabinet.

“The government must come clean. Let’s have a public debate on the new proposed terms,” he urged.

He also pushed for the release of the draft Green Minerals Law and the long-promised Green Minerals Policy, which were reported to be in the works under the previous administration, to guide strategic decisions on the exploitation of critical resources like lithium.

“The conversation should be about refining capacity too. While spodumene prices may stay flat due to Chinese oversupply, lithium hydroxide, a refined salt, could see a 102% price increase by 2028. We should be planning around value addition,” Simons said.

Mahama Unveils Infrastructure, Economic Plans In Ashanti Region

President Mahama addressing the gathering during the tour

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a series of ambitious infrastructure and economic recovery projects aimed at transforming the Ashanti Region and boosting national development.

During his ‘Thank You Tour’ of the region on Wednesday, President Mahama reaffirmed his government’s commitment to restoring Kumasi’s urban efficiency and revitalising Ghana’s economy.

At the centre of his address was the planned Greater Kumasi Bypass, which he said will significantly reduce traffic congestion in Kumasi. The first phase of the project will begin from Ejisu and link to the Mampong-Techiman road.

“All the large articulated trucks heading to Burkina Faso and Mali will no longer pass through Kumasi. They will divert at Ejisu towards the Techiman road,” he explained.

“This will help decongest the city, promote faster travel, and restore Kumasi’s urban integrity,” he pointed out.

He further revealed plans to reconstruct roads in Tepa, Manso, and Adansi West, improving regional connectivity and infrastructure.

On the economy, President Mahama noted that the Ashanti Region has been severely affected by the recent economic crisis, especially due to the banking sector clean-up and the domestic debt exchange programme.

“The Ashanti Region is the heartbeat of Ghana’s business community. When the economy is in decline, this region suffers the most,” he said.

To reverse this trend, his administration has introduced stringent cost-cutting measures and enforced fiscal discipline since January, resulting in marked improvement in key economic indicators.

“We have seen inflation fall rapidly, and the cedi has appreciated against major international currencies. This has boosted business confidence, stabilised the market, and made port charges and levies more affordable,” he stated.

The President concluded by affirming that the economic stability achieved will support business recovery and job creation in the Ashanti Region.

President Mahama’s ‘Thank You Tour’ comes in the wake of his electoral victory, and forms part of ongoing engagement with Ghanaians across all regions.

‘Kurl Songx left Highly Spiritual without communicating, but he’s back now’

0

Kaywa is a record producer and CEO of Highly Spiritual Music Kaywa is a record producer and CEO of Highly Spiritual Music

Record producer and CEO of Highly Spiritual Music, Kaywa, has disclosed that his former signee, Kurl Songx, left his record label in 2019 without giving any formal notice.

In an interview with Hitz FM on July 17, 2025, Kaywa explained that Kurl Songx’s decision to leave the label came at a time when tensions had built up within the label.

He believes the singer left because he thought he had found a better opportunity elsewhere, and was also influenced by people around him, including fans and some media personalities.

“He left because I think there were maybe other opportunities out there for him. It was not on a good note. There were back and forths. I remember he had an issue with even the artistes on the label too. I’m not sure, there’s any record label that says that I’m signing just you this artiste and nobody else comes on the label again,” Kaywa stated.

He further explained that one of the challenges with managing multiple artistes is that some of them may begin to feel left out.

According to him, outside voices fuelled Kurl Songx feeling, making him feel like he was not a priority.

“You see that feeling like once you’re in there and then you’re feeling the attention is not on me. The pressure and usually the fans can cause this; not only the fans but media personalities as well. They will tell you, ‘Leave him, he’s wasting your time. I mean, now they’re projecting other artists.’ So, all these things come to play. And so, like I said, when he wanted to leave, I didn’t say anything. In fact, his exit was not communicated,” he said.

Kaywa also disclosed that Kurl Songx has now returned to him. He shared that the artiste came back and apologised for how he handled his exit, and as someone who believes in second chances, he forgave him and took him back.

“I’m saying this because, now, as I speak with you, he’s back with me. He’s like, he’s one faithful guy right now. He came apologising and I said, ‘Listen, we all make mistakes,’” he added.

We’ll go to Akwatia with weapons if police fails to prove it has situation under control – Salam Mustapha

Salam Mustapha is the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party Salam Mustapha is the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party

The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has stated that the party will take the security of its members into its own hands in the pending Akwatia by-election if it does not get any assurance from the Ghana Police Service.

Speaking in an interview on UTV on July 17, 2025, Salam Mustapha indicated that his party will not sit aloof as attacks on its members, like those seen in the rerun of the 2024 parliamentary election for 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency, continue.

“They are supposed to be professionals. If they were going to kill Chris (the NPP Deputy National Organiser who was attacked during the rerun), they would have killed him in front of the police and later on, they would come and apologise.

“These are some of the things that make people arm themselves. If not, when we are going to Akwatia, we carry along pistols, cutlasses,” he said in the Twi dialect.

The National Youth Organiser added that if the police wants to prevent this, “they should do what is needful.”

He said that the police must give confidence to the stakeholders in the elections that they will be able to provide adequate protection.

“Nobody wants this. We all want the election to be peaceful, and that includes giving confidence to everybody. Confidence is important. And so the police must be able to restore confidence in all of us that they have the situation under control… Otherwise, to be forewarned is to be forearmed,” he added.

Macroeconomic stability improving – BoG after emergency MPC meeting

0

BoG Governor, Dr Johnson Pandit Kwasi Asiama BoG Governor, Dr Johnson Pandit Kwasi Asiama

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Ghana has reported significant improvements in Ghana’s macroeconomic indicators, including inflation and gross international reserves.

This follows an emergency meeting held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, to assess whether current economic conditions warranted immediate action ahead of the scheduled 125th MPC meetings later this month.

In a statement issued on July 18, 2025 the Bank of Ghana noted, “This is in line with our commitment to proactive and responsive policy formulation.”

The Committee highlighted the following developments over the past three months: “A strengthening of the disinflation momentum, with headline inflation falling steadily for six consecutive months to 13.7% in June 2025, down from 23.8% in December 2024.”

It added that core inflation measures also indicate a re-anchoring of expectations, supporting the further decline in inflation.

The Committee further noted that real sector performance remains robust, with real GDP growth reaching 5.3% in the first quarter of 2025. Non-oil GDP growth was even stronger, at 6.8%, driven by vibrant activity in the agriculture and services sectors.

In addition, the external sector has continued to strengthen, with a provisional trade surplus of US$5.6 billion and a current account surplus of US$3.4 billion recorded in the first half of 2025. These figures compare favorably to US$1.4 billion and US$283.1 million, respectively, in the same period of 2024.

“These gains have contributed to higher reserve accumulation,” the statement added.

Additionally, the Central Bank noted that;

1. Gross international reserves improved to US$11.1 billion as at end-June 2025, equivalent to 4.8 months of import cover, from US$8.98 billion at end-2024.

2. The cedi has appreciated significantly, gaining 42.6 percent, year-to-date, against the US dollar, supported by strong foreign exchange inflows from gold and cocoa exports, remittances, improved investor sentiments, and prudent policy implementation.

3. The global environment remains uncertain. Growth momentum is weakening and is projected to slow to 2.8 per cent in 2025, from 3.3 per cent in 2024. Global financial conditions remain tight, and disinflation, though ongoing, is expected to proceed unevenly.

“Overall, the Committee noted significant improvements in the current macroeconomic conditions and the positive outlook. Inflation expectations are broadly anchored, external buffers have strengthened, and confidence in the economy is returning. The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to support the recovery process without compromising the gains achieved so far,” BoG noted.

However, the next regular MPC meeting will be held from Monday, July 28, 2025, and conclude on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, with announcement of the policy decision, as scheduled.

What to expect in Usyk vs Dubois Rematch

0

Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois are set to face off on July 19 at Wembley Stadium in London Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois are set to face off on July 19 at Wembley Stadium in London

The boxing world is abuzz with anticipation as Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois are set to clash in a highly anticipated rematch for the undisputed heavyweight championship on July 19, 2025, at Wembley Stadium.

With all four major belts: WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF up for grabs, the winner will be crowned the undisputed heavyweight champion, marking a historic moment in the sport’s four-belt era.

Usyk, the 38-year-old Ukrainian phenom with an unblemished 23-0 record (14 KOs), aims to reclaim the IBF title he vacated in June 2024 and become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion.

Having defeated Tyson Fury in May 2024 to unify the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF titles, Usyk solidified his status as one of boxing’s all-time greats.

His subsequent unanimous decision victory over Fury in their December 2024 rematch further cemented his dominance.

Usyk, a former undisputed cruiserweight champion, is known for his elite footwork, ring IQ and resilience, as demonstrated in his controversial 2023 win over Dubois.

“I’m grateful to God for the opportunity to once again fight for the undisputed championship. Thank you, Daniel, for taking care of my IBF belt, now I want it back,” Usyk said.

Dubois, the 27-year-old British powerhouse with a 22-2 record (21 KOs), enters the rematch as the IBF champion, having been elevated from interim to full titleholder after Usyk vacated the belt.

Since his ninth-round knockout loss to Usyk in August 2023, Dubois has been on a tear, securing stoppage victories over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua, the latter in a stunning fifth-round knockout at Wembley in September 2024.

Nicknamed “Dynamite,” Dubois believes he was robbed in their first encounter due to a controversial fifth-round low blow call that allowed Usyk time to recover.

“I should have won the first fight and was denied by the referee’s judgment. I am a superior and more dangerous fighter now, and Usyk will find this out on July 19,” Dubois said.

The first Usyk-Dubois bout in Wroclaw, Poland sparked heated debate when Dubois floored Usyk with a body shot ruled a low blow by referee Luis Pabon.

Usyk, given up to five minutes to recover, regained control and stopped Dubois in the ninth round to retain his WBA, WBO, IBF, and The Ring titles.

Dubois and his team have since maintained the punch was legal, fueling their determination for redemption.

Promising a “bloodbath” in the ring, Dubois declared, “I can’t wait to put him to sleep.”

The rematch carries immense stakes, with a reported $203 million prize purse, split approximately 65/35 in Usyk’s favour, equating to roughly $100 million for Usyk and $50 million for Dubois.

The event, expected to draw a record-breaking crowd of 90,000 at Wembley, marks the first undisputed heavyweight title fight on British soil, promising a night of high drama and legacy-defining moments.

As Usyk seeks to reaffirm his supremacy and Dubois aims to rewrite history, the boxing world awaits a clash that could reshape the heavyweight division.

Will Usyk’s technical mastery prevail, or will Dubois’ explosive power deliver a stunning upset? Tune in on July 19 to find out.

NHIS claims payments to hit 75% by 2026 – Health Minister – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced a significant boost in Ghana’s health financing, revealing that claims payments under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) are projected to rise to 75% by 2026.

Providing an update on the sector’s performance on Friday, July 18, the Minister attributed the improvement to the government’s bold decision to uncap the National Health Insurance Levy. This move, he said, has unlocked critical resources needed to expand healthcare delivery across the country.

“Thanks to the visionary decision to uncap the National Health Insurance Levy, the NHIA’s revenue for 2025 has soared to an unprecedented 9.76 billion Ghana cedis compared to the previous capped budgetary allocation of 6.52 billion Ghana cedis in 2024 – a massive increase of 3.26 billion Ghana cedis,” he stated.

Akandoh described the additional funding as a “game-changer,” noting that it would enable the NHIS to expand coverage, enhance benefit packages, and strengthen the country’s progress toward achieving universal health coverage.

“This is the government fulfilling its promise to prioritise the health of every citizen,” he declared.

He further disclosed that the government has already increased NHIS allocations for claims payments from 56.2% in 2024 to 65% in 2025, with a clear plan to reach 75% by 2026. This, he explained, reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that healthcare providers are paid on time and services are sustained.

“As the fund grows, we ensure that every cedi reaches frontline services, providing quality care to all Ghanaians,” the Minister said.

He emphasised that beyond removing the cap on the levy, the government has also prioritised the timely release of funds, ensuring that facilities can function effectively and that citizens can access the care they need without delays.

‘Copyright Society of Ghana has lost its mandate’ – Kwesi Ernest

0

Talent manager and entertainment pundit, Kwesi Ernest, has questioned the relevance of the Copyright Society of Ghana, saying the institution has lost focus and is no longer fulfilling the purpose for which it was created.

Speaking during a discussion on Onua TV, on July 17, 2025, Kwesi Ernest criticised the society’s apparent failure to tackle piracy.

He mentioned that even though the COSGA office is located just a few metres from where music piracy openly takes place, the officials working there do nothing to stop it.

“The Copyright Society of Ghana is located just a few meters away from where many people engage in music piracy. What is even more concerning is that the officials responsible for protecting the copyright of musicians drive past without taking any action. Why does this office still exist? It seems they have lost their mandate, and it is crucial for the government of Ghana, and the Attorney General, to review the operations of the Copyright Society of Ghana,” Kwesi Ernest stated.

According to him, the inaction of the Copyright Society is disappointing and also a setback for musicians who rely on the body for protection and support.

Kwesi Ernest also stressed the absence of any visible task force from the society to clamp down on piracy.

He said the system that was supposed to protect musicians has collapsed, leaving artistes to fight piracy alone without institutional support.

“Where is their task force? This unit should be active in arresting all those involved in piracy. What has become of that office? Musicians are left to fend for themselves, with no one to protect their rights,” he said.

670,000 more Ghanaians join NHIS – Akandoh – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has recorded a substantial boost in enrolment and system reliability, with over 670,000 additional citizens registered in the past year.

Delivering an update on the health sector’s performance on Friday, July 18, the Minister noted that total enrolment had risen from 15 million in 2024 to 15.67 million by mid-2025—an encouraging sign of growing public trust in the scheme.

“Ladies and gentlemen, today, 15.67 million Ghanaians are enrolled in the NHIS – an increase of over 670,000 from last year. What this means is that 670,000 more Ghanaians are now benefiting from health insurance coverage,” Akandoh stated.

He described the increase as evidence that recent government interventions in the health insurance sector are yielding results.

He attributed the rise in enrolment to stronger financing mechanisms, prompt claims payments, and structural reforms that have improved service delivery.

“In the first half of 2025 alone, the NHIA disbursed over GHS 1.38 billion to providers, reflecting a system that is stronger, more responsive, and more reliable than ever before,” he noted.

Akandoh underscored that these disbursements demonstrate the government’s commitment to enhancing the scheme’s functionality and building a more inclusive health insurance system.

He also reassured stakeholders that the Ministry will continue to implement policies aimed at expanding access, enhancing quality, and ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of the NHIS.

Ghana Hostels Limited has come under heavy backlash following the release of its hostel fees for the 2025/2026 academic year for its facilities on the University of Ghana campus.

The price list for its halls, popularly known as the Pentagon Hostels, shows a sharp increase of almost 90% compared to the 2023/2024 academic year.

Despite facing public criticism over similar fee hikes in 2023, the management has once again raised prices for the upcoming academic year.

The document, titled “Approved Hostel Rates for 2025/2026 Academic Year – UG-Legon Facility,” revealed that a 1-in-a-room with air conditioning at New Pent now costs GH¢40,329, up from GH¢24,362 in 2024.

A 1-in-a-room without air conditioning at New Pent has risen to GH¢24,835, from GH¢21,820 in 2024.

The cheapest option listed is a 4-in-a-room at Old Pent, now costing GH¢7,492, up from GH¢4,928 in 2024.

Social media users have widely criticised the hostel management for the steep increases, especially given what many describe as favourable economic conditions.

Hassan Ayariga is the founder and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC) Hassan Ayariga is the founder and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC)

Tempers flared on live television during the Thursday, July 17, 2025, edition of the Good Evening Ghana program when Hassan Ayariga, Founder and Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), angrily called into the show to blast the spokesperson of the self-proclaimed Igbo King in Ghana.

His outburst followed growing controversies surrounding the king, Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu’s alleged acquisition of over 50 acres of land to build an “Igbo Village” community.

Ayariga accused Ihenetu’s representatives of misleading Ghanaians with their denial of plans to build a community in the country — a controversy that has sparked widespread public outcry and raised serious concerns about Ghana’s sovereignty.

According to Ayariga, there is video evidence showing Ihenetu making claims about acquiring land to build a community in Ghana.

He, therefore, questioned why the king’s representatives were now denying those statements.

“I want to tell the journalist sitting down there that he should stop. Tell him that he should stop misleading Ghanaians.

“Even they said that the man did not acquire land. He himself has said he has land,” he said.

Ayariga shared further details, claiming that Eze Ihenetu had been invited by the National Intelligence Bureau (BNI) and subsequently arrested by National Security operatives.

Although the Igbo King’s representatives refuted the claim, Ayariga insisted that the arrest did occur and added that Ihenetu was detained for a day.

“It was an invitation by NIB, but he was arrested by National Security. He doesn’t even know what he is talking about. Ask him whether he was not detained for 24 hours. Ask him how can you invite somebody and detain me? What is that kind of invitation? I am sending you a video of him being detained,” he disclosed.

The politician issued a stern warning to Eze Ihenetu and his associates, urging them to desist from acting as though they were above the law.

He cautioned that such conduct — especially actions that could pose dangerous risks — might escalate into conflict between the people of Ghana and Nigeria.

“He should be careful of what he is saying so that he can move out of that room alive. He should stop lying and misbehaving. That is not a threat. When you come and lie that your chief did not claim to have a land when there’s video evidence of him saying he has bought 50 acres of land.

“The Nigerians come and lie anyhow and think they can come and sit down and behave as if the country is for them. What do you mean? You people should be very careful in this country. You cannot sit down and talk as if this country is yours, and I am angry because of the way they are talking. He is not a king in Ghana,” he warned.

GH¢49m Adu-Boahene Case: Former UMB Bank officer requests new lawyer in open court

Mildred Donkor, the third accused in the ongoing GH¢49m National Security trial involving former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, has reportedly fired the former Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, from representing her in the case.

According to a report by GHOne, Donkor, who, together with Adu Boahene and two other accused, has been slapped with 11 charges over the alleged transfer of GH¢49 million (approximately $7 million) from the bureau’s account to the former NSB chief’s personal account, said Atta Akyea, who was the lawyer for all the accused persons, should no longer represent her.

She reportedly told court during proceedings on Friday, July 18, 2025, that she wished for a “separate lawyer.”

“I wish to take a separate lawyer!”, the third accused is quoted to have said.

The Office of the Attorney General filed 11 corruption-related charges against Adu Boahene and three other accused persons, the wife of Adu Boahene, Angela Adjei-Boateng; his company, Advantage Solutions Limited; and a banker, Mildred Donkor.

Mildred Donkor is a former UMB Bank relationship officer for the couple and their company, BNC.

Court filings show she also served as a director for Advantage Solutions Limited, which was allegedly used as a holding company to launder the stolen funds.

“The monies which A1 and A2 moved from the National BNC bank account into the Private BNC’s bank account were paid through a complex web of companies, ultimately owned by A4 (Advantage Solutions),” the AG’s court filing states.

Investigations further revealed that the stolen funds were used to acquire properties in Accra, Kumasi, and London, luxury vehicles, and to fund the couple’s lavish lifestyle.

Despite her denials, Donkor was found to be a director in all companies used in the scheme and actively participated in the day-to-day operations.

Mildred Donkor was charged with several counts of conspiracy to commit money laundering and money laundering.

‘Rubbish talk’ – Chelsea fans blast ESPN pundit over his Club World Cup remark

Steve Nicloe is an outspoken sports pundit on ESPN Steve Nicloe is an outspoken sports pundit on ESPN

A renowned sports pundit, Steve Nicole, has come under heavy criticism from Chelsea fans over a comment he made concerning the team’s ability to clinch the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

During an analysis on Spanish media outlet Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) on July 17, 2025, the former footballer asserted that the poor nature of the pitch in the United States of America (USA) helped Chelsea win the tournament.

According to him, when Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and other teams the Blues defeated play brilliantly on their usual pitches in their home grounds, their performance is better than they did in the US.

The former Sheffield Wednesday player added that the turf quality annoyed him a lot and that he believes it favored Chelsea to thrash PSG 3-0 to win the maiden FIFA Club World Cup tournament.

“Another thing that annoyed me is the fact that they laid turf on our grass fields on top of turf. It changes the game. That’s not how these teams play, regardless of what country they’re in. That’s not how they play the game.

“The only reason Chelsea won is because of the field. If you keep banging those balls, knowing the ball would stay in bounds, it wouldn’t go outside. I just couldn’t take it seriously enough,” Nicole said during the discussion.

His remark did not sit well with Chelsea fans who took to the comment section on X to express their displeasure.

They questioned his intellect and knowledge of sports, saying his comments show he is incompetent and does not deserve to sit on television to analyse sporting issues.

Others fumed that either he personally dislikes the club or supports London rivals Arsenal, hence spewing such an unprofessional remark to discredit Chelsea for their success.

Akwatia NPP youth group warns against candidate imposition ahead of by-election

0

A youth group, identified itself with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akwatia constituency of the Eastern region, known as the Gallant Patriots, has cautioned the party’s leadership against imposing a candidate in the upcoming parliamentary by-election.

Addressing a press conference in Akyem Boadua, the group’s convenor, Akonoba Nana Boadu, stressed that any attempt to sidestep an open and democratic selection process could deepen existing cracks within the party. He maintained that such a move could prove detrimental to the NPP’s chances of retaining the seat.

He urged the NPP leadership to allow all eligible and competent members in the Akwatia constituency to contest freely, stating that this approach would not only foster party unity but also enhance their chances of victory.

Boadu warned that if the national executives fail to heed their call and proceed with imposing a candidate, the party risks losing the seat due to widespread discontent and voter apathy among the grassroots.

The Akwatia by-election follows the death of the Member of Parliament for the area, Ernest Kumi, which has rendered the seat vacant, necessitating a fresh contest to elect a new representative.

Corruption is not destiny but a decision – Dr Akwasi Opong-Fosu

0

Dr Akwasi Opong-Fosu is the Chair of Africa Global Emergence Centre Dr Akwasi Opong-Fosu is the Chair of Africa Global Emergence Centre

Dr Akwasi Opong-Fosu, Chairperson of the Africa Global Emergence Centre, has stated that corruption is not destiny, it is a decision that is repeated, tolerated, and reinforced.

He contrasted this with integrity, which he described as a decision that is principled, courageous, and consistent.

Dr Opong-Fosu made these remarks at the Anti-Corruption Roundtable Forum, co-hosted by the Global Chamber of Commerce and the Sonoco International Business Department of the University of South Carolina.

The forum, held under the theme “Towards a New Anti-Corruption Agenda: Lessons from Diverse Stakeholders in Africa and the West,” brought together African and Western leaders from the public and private sectors, civil society, and academia.

It provided a platform to explore new issues and solutions to the persistent problem of corruption and its impact on African business.

Dr Opong-Fosu emphasised that effective anti-corruption efforts in a rapidly changing world require a shared understanding of the evolving nature of the problem and a willingness to embrace innovative solutions.

He urged all stakeholders to “speak the truth, even when it is inconvenient; hold themselves and others accountable; and build institutions that will outlast them.”

“Let us not just discuss corruption, let us defeat it with policy, with leadership, and with collective resolve,” he added.

The former minister described corruption not merely as a bureaucratic failure but as a direct attack on human dignity.

“It robs nations of opportunity, weakens institutions, and undermines public trust,” he said.

Dr Opong-Fosu cited global statistics to illustrate the scale of the problem. He noted that corruption drains over $2.6 trillion annually from the global economy, more than 5% of global GDP—and over $1 trillion is lost to bribes each year.

In developing countries, an estimated $1.26 trillion is lost annually, enough to lift 1.4 billion people out of poverty for at least six years.

For Africa alone, the loss is approximately $10 billion every year, funds that could have been used to build hospitals, fund schools, and create jobs.

“But these numbers are not just statistics. They represent stolen medicines and unbuilt roads,” he concluded.

We love each other – Shatta Wale addresses critics as he quashes ‘beef’ with Sarkodie

0

Dancehall king Shatta Wale has officially put to rest speculations about lingering tension between himself and rapper Sarkodie, confirming that they are back on good terms after years of a public fallout.

The two music maestros were once known to be close friends, often supporting each other both on and off stage. However, their relationship took a hit years ago, leading to a series of diss tracks and subtle jabs in interviews and on social media.

In recent months, fans have noticed a change in tone, with both artistes engaging more positively online. Their once-frosty relationship appears to be warming up again, from likes and reposts to direct interactions.

Some critics, however, have questioned the authenticity of the renewed friendship, calling it fake love and suggesting it’s all for public attention.

But Shatta Wale, in a social media post, has shut down those claims, clarifying that he and Sarkodie have genuine love for each other.

Shatta also urged fans of both camps to let matters rest and focus on championing positivity in the music industry.

Their reconciliation marks a positive turn in what had been one of Ghana music’s most talked-about rivalries. Fans have expressed hope that the two will collaborate again and continue to promote peace in the industry.

THE CENTRAL East Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of 25-year-old Kolie Samuel for robbery. On July 10, 2025, at around 5:30 am, Samuel robbed a female victim of her handbag containing an iPhone 16 Pro Max and an unspecified amount of money at Millennium City near Golden Pride Preparatory School in Gomoa East.

The Central East Regional Police Command has assured it commitment to ensuring public safety and security by bringing perpetrators of such crimes to face the full rigor of the law.
