Ghana’s Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Issifu Seidu, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to practical climate action during the side event on grounded delivery in climate vulnerable nations, organised by the CVF V20 at COP30 in Belem, Brazil.

Speaking on the role of country platforms, he underscored Ghana’s leadership as host of the CVF V20 Secretariat and shared progress on the update of the Ghana Climate Prosperity Plan.

He noted that the plan is being refined to keep the country aligned with the 1.5 degree Celsius target set under the Paris Agreement while taking advantage of declining costs in renewable energy, transport and energy efficiency solutions.

He highlighted key elements of the updated plan, including the introduction of a Practice and Innovation Exchange that will support members to share knowledge, programmes and business models in a trusted space.

He also reaffirmed Ghana’s efforts to mobilise domestic and regional private sector partners through equity support and project preparation assistance, with grants directed to the most vulnerable.

He added that Ghana remains committed to country led and direct access approaches and is avoiding the creation of new institutions.

Ghana is also positioning itself to host a regional Green Climate Fund office, leveraging the presence of the CVF V20 Secretariat in Accra.

He thanked partners Bangladesh, Bhutan, The Gambia, Jamaica and Haiti for their contributions and reiterated Ghana’s commitment through the CVF V20 Troika to coordinate efforts, mobilise fair finance and drive delivery on the ground.

He concluded that the new Practice and Innovation Exchange will help codify effective models for governments, small businesses and investors to reduce costs, build capacity and unlock capital.

Traditional leaders in Kwahu have reportedly invoked curses on certain traditional leaders, and their families allegedly involved in the recent abduction of the Kwahuhemaa.

A video that went viral on X on November 19, 2025, showed a group of men invoking the curses using a bottle of schnapps.

The Queen Mother of the Kwahu Traditional Council, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua III, has since been released following the intervention of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohonu.

She was reportedly taken by men believed to be unknown individuals in the early hours of Monday, November 17, 2025, during an attack on the palace of the Paramount Chief.

In a statement, the Ghana Police Service confirmed her release and said the IGP had directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau to investigate the circumstances surrounding the operation.

The statement added that any officers found culpable would face appropriate sanctions.

Meanwhile, security has been intensified in the area as authorities work to prevent further unrest.

KMA to roll out on weekend street business plan at Adum ahead of Christmas

0

According to the KMA, specific streets within the business centre will be temporarily closed According to the KMA, specific streets within the business centre will be temporarily closed

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced plans to introduce Saturday and Sunday street businesses in the Central Business District (CBD) of Adum to boost economic activities ahead of the 2025 Christmas festivities.

The move is aimed at creating a structured space for traders to operate and meet increased customer demand during the festive season.

According to the KMA, specific streets within the business centre will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic on weekends to make way for trading activities.

This initiative will allow traders to display their goods freely and safely and enable shoppers to patronise the CBD without the usual weekday congestion.

Despite the move, the assembly has emphasised that the ban on trading on pavements and road medians remains strictly in force.

The MCE, Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, warned that any trader who flouts this directive will face strict sanctions.

The enforcement forms part of efforts to maintain order and protect pedestrian access.

Speaking on Otec FM’s morning show Nyansapo, hosted by Kwaku Owusu Boateng on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Ofori Agyeman Boadi explained that the decision is a strategic effort to decongest the city.

He noted that during Christmas, traders often spill onto roads, creating both traffic and pedestrian challenges.

He further added that the weekend initiative is targeted at workers who are often unavailable to shop on weekdays.

“Saturdays and Sundays are a traditional part of the weekend, a time when many people have the day off and are looking for leisure activities like shopping,” the MCE said, expressing hope that the measure will support both traders and shoppers during the festive rush.

Ghana’s defeat to Japan and South Korea will affect rankings

0

Former Black Stars defender, Sam Johnson has bemoaned Ghana’s performance in the 2025 Kirin Challenge Cup against Japan and South Korea.

According to Sam Johnson, the games were friendly matches but the defeat will affect Ghana’s ranking on the international stage.

Speaking to Citi Sports, the former Accra Hearts of Oak defender described the results as troubling, particularly with the World Cup on the horizon.

“As a player or as a country, you can’t ignore results like this. It’s concerning ahead of such a big tournament.”

“The more you lose, the more you go down; that is the main problem,” Sam Johnson said.

2026 World Cup Draw: Ghana faces tough path after pot 4 placement

He also urged the public to tone down on the criticisms because the Black Stars went into the games without some key players.

“Some of the players are not the ones we’ll take to the World Cup, so that alone should shift perceptions. Some are playing their first matches, and others are new to the setup. We have to allow them time to adapt,” he explained.

Ghana lost 2-0 to Japan on Friday, November 14, before the 1-0 defeat to South Korea on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

NPP Minority raises concern over GHS13.1 billion allocation for presidential jets

0

By Godwill Arthur-Mensah/Elsie Appiah-Osei

Accra, Nov. 19, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Parliament, has expressed concern over government’s plan to spend a total of GHS 13.1 billion within four years on the purchase of two presidential jets and four helicopters for the Ghana Armed Airforce.

Addressing the Parliamentary Press Corps at Parliament House on Wednesday, Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Member of Parliament for Damongo, said the expenditure, when converted at the current Bank of Ghana exchange rate of GHS 10.53 to the US dollar, amounts to approximately US$1.2 billion.

Mr Jinapor argued that the planned acquisition of the presidential aircraft was a misplaced priority, particularly at a time when nurses’ allowances remained unpaid, and farmers were grappling with food gluts at the farm gates.

He explained that the procurement process was expected to begin in 2026, with the government allocating GHS 2.6 billion.

In 2027, the government is projected to spend GHS 3.5 billion, in 2028 it has allocated GHS3.3 billion and GHS 3.5 billion in 2029.

The figures, he noted, were contained in page 136, paragraph 10(9) of the budget statement.

The Damongo legislator urged the government to reconsider the expenditure in favour of addressing pressing social and economic challenges confronting the country.

CID petitioned to probe galamsey claims against three Regional Ministers

0

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has been petitioned to launch a formal investigation into allegations of illegal mining made against three Regional Ministers.

The petition, dated November 19, 2025, was submitted by Daniel Sasu Omari and follows claims made by Wendell Nana Yaw Yeboah, Head of Mobilisation at Democracy Hub, during a live interview on Aluta FM (92.1 MHz). In the broadcast, Yeboah alleged that the Regional Ministers for Ashanti, Western and Eastern were involved in illegal mining activities.

According to the petition, the allegations, made publicly on November 18, were widely circulated and risked undermining public confidence, distorting national discourse, and distracting government’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining—a fight the President has repeatedly prioritised.

Following public backlash and demands for evidence, Yeboah later retracted his comments and issued an apology, admitting that his claims were not based on fact. The petition includes the retraction as an attachment.

Despite the apology, Omari argues that the seriousness of the initial accusation requires an independent investigation by the CID. He said the probe is necessary to establish the truth, determine whether the allegations were made with malicious intent, and prevent future instances that could damage the reputations of public officials.

The petition requests that the CID invite Yeboah, the programme host, and the producer of the Aluta FM segment to assist with the investigations and to provide any evidence to support the original claims.

Omari stressed that accusing sitting Ministers of State of involvement in illegal mining on a national platform “cannot be overlooked,” and that establishing the facts is essential to protecting the integrity of public office and maintaining public trust in the national anti-galamsey fight.

The CID has not yet issued a response to the petition.

THE GHANA Football Association (GFA) has expressed its profound sorrow following the tragic death of two Aduana FC supporters who were involved in a fatal accident on Sunday while returning from their club’s league match in Kumasi.

The fans had travelled to cheer Aduana FC in their 1–1 draw against Asante Kotoko, but their journey home ended in tragedy.

The GFA described the deceased supporters as devoted followers whose passion and loyalty to their club “will never be forgotten.”

In a statement, the Association extended its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased, the injured, the playing body and the entire Aduana FC community.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the departed, the injured supporters, the players and all Aduana FC fans during this profoundly difficult time,” the statement read.

“The Football Association, together with Premier League clubs, stands firmly in solidarity with Aduana FC as we mourn this heartbreaking loss.”

Executive Council member Frederick Acheampong has visited the injured supporters receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. The GFA says it remains in close contact with Aduana FC leadership and will continue providing all necessary support.

Meanwhile, Kumasi Asante Kotoko has also extended condolences to Aduana Stars and the families of the deceased supporters following the deadly accident.

“The passing of these passionate fans, who were returning from supporting their beloved club, is an immense loss that we feel deeply,” a Kotoko statement noted.

The statement further wished the two injured supporters “a full, swift, and successful recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families during this challenging time of healing.”

U.S. Introduces Priority Visa System For 2026 World Cup Ticket Holders

0

The World Cup trophy

The United States government has launched a new priority visa programme for fans attending the FIFA World Cup 2026™, offering expedited interview appointments for all ticket holders travelling to the country for the tournament.

The initiative, known as the FIFA Priority Appointment Scheduling System (FIFA PASS), was formally unveiled at a high-profile event at the White House attended by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, members of the White House Task Force and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The programme will allow every fan with a valid match ticket to secure a prioritised visa interview, a move that both FIFA and U.S. officials describe as a major step toward ensuring smoother travel for international visitors ahead of the tournament.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino hailed the announcement as a milestone achievement in the lead-up to the first 48-team World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

“America welcomes the world,” Infantino said. “We have always said this will be the greatest and most inclusive FIFA World Cup in history – and the FIFA PASS service is a concrete example of that. I extend my sincere gratitude to President Donald J. Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary Marco Rubio, Secretary Kristi Noem, Executive Director Andrew Giuliani and the White House Task Force for their incredible support.”

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio encouraged fans to take advantage of the service immediately.

“The United States is offering prioritised appointments so FIFA World Cup fans can complete their visa interviews and show they qualify,” Rubio said. “The kick-off is coming up, so now is the time to apply. We’re honored to host the greatest and safest World Cup in history.”

More than six million tickets are expected to be available for the 2026 tournament, which will take place in 16 host cities across North America. Fans from countries with open interview appointments are urged to submit their U.S. visa applications as soon as possible. Further details on the FIFA PASS system will be communicated to ticket holders in early 2026.

Travellers from Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries may still be eligible to enter the U.S. through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA).

TCL, Ghana Air Conferences unveil new energy-efficient AC

TCL in partnership with Ghana Air Conferences has launched a new energy-efficient air conditioner.

According to the company, the device is designed to ease pressure on household budgets while promoting cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable cooling solutions in Ghana.

The collaboration between TCL and Ghana Air Conferences has produced an air conditioner that not only saves energy but also purifies indoor air.

The partners say the new device is expected to become a game-changer in the country’s energy-saving efforts. The TCL air conditioner was officially launched at the conference on November 18, 2025.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Accra on November 18, 2025, Fixon Dennis, Marketing Manager for TCL West Africa, highlighted the advanced air purification technology integrated into the unit.

He noted that the innovation positions TCL as a leading brand in sustainable cooling solutions on the Ghanaian market.

“Today we’ve launched the Fresh In, the Breeze In, the Vox In, the Save In, the VRF, the light commercial ACs, and the duct ACs. We have introduced a whole range of air conditioners you can find on the market. We think about our consumers a lot—we are giving them more technology to save money and more technology to ensure quality air when they are breathing in their rooms,” he said.

For his part, Vincent Azabak, Sales Manager of Electroland Ghana Limited, added that the new TCL air conditioner is engineered to drastically reduce power consumption while enhancing air quality.

He explained that TCL offers two major types of air conditioners: the traditional on-off model and the inverter model.

“We have inverter air conditioners that save up to 40% on power consumption. We usually recommend inverter air conditioners because they help reduce electricity costs and are very quiet. As you can see from the new lineup, the new air conditioner comes with a feature that introduces fresh air into homes. A special pipe draws in fresh air from outside, filters it, and circulates it indoors,” he noted.

Some gospel musicians use charms and cast spells on colleagues

Ghanaian gospel singer Celestine Donkor Ghanaian gospel singer Celestine Donkor

Ghanaian gospel singer Celestine Donkor has made shocking revelations about spiritual attacks and unhealthy competition in the gospel music industry.

Speaking to Taller Dee on Accra-based No.1 FM’s Gospel Showbizz, she addressed issues of popularity, genuine ministry work, and the rising desperation among artistes.

When asked whether awards, fame, or true ministry mattered most today, Celestine Donkor insisted that awards are not unbiblical.

“I think awards are biblical because the Bible says whoever is faithful to the end will receive a crown.

That means there is a reward. Any promise from God has an award attached.”

However, she agreed that the criteria and processes for some award schemes sometimes raise doubts.

The host noted that some award winners appear undeserving, giving the impression that awards may be influenced or “bought.”

Celestine confidently responded:

“I am Celestine Donkor.”

She added that despite their imperfections, award schemes still contribute positively to the industry:

“The exposure and recognition matter. For me, winning is not the biggest deal. Sometimes when I’m nominated with other artistes, I sit back and cheer them on.

If someone is truly good, we should admit it.”

Celestine cautioned musicians against becoming too desperate for awards, saying desperation leads people into dangerous actions.

“We are colleagues and kingdom workers. When desperation enters the picture, it introduces diabolic intentions—doing anything by hook or crook to win.”

She stressed that she would never accept an award she didn’t deserve:

“On record, me, Celestine Donkor, I will never be proud receiving an award someone deserves more than me.”

“Some Gospel Musicians Use Charms and Place Spells on Others”

When the host asked if her comments came from personal experience or just general observation, Celestine revealed something more disturbing.

She said some gospel musicians prioritise fame over ministry and end up engaging in spiritual battles.

“Recently, we heard that some gospel musicians are using charms and placing spells on someone just to block their progress or get ahead. These things are driven by desperation—the desire to be the one on top.”

Taller Dee expressed disbelief, saying he didn’t think charms or spiritual manipulation existed among gospel artistes. But Celestine insisted:

“It happens. It is among them. Even I have been a victim—both physically and spiritually.”

Her revelations highlight growing concerns about competition and spiritual manipulation in the gospel music space. Celestine ended by advising musicians to allow merit, sincerity, and hard work to determine who gets recognition.

Double-track evidence shows improved outcomes

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh is a former education minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh is a former education minister

The 2024 running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has dismissed assertions by the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, that the introduction of the double-track system under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy has compromised the quality of education.

Dr Opoku Prempeh, who served as Minister of Education, described the Minister’s comments as unfounded and not supported by any empirical data.

He made the remarks during an appearance on Joy News’ PM Express.

According to him, the only consistent measure of quality over the last 60 years has been the results of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), which, he argued, demonstrate clear improvements under the Free SHS programme.

“For the first time in 16 years, we had more than 50 percent of our students pass all four core subjects in 2020. That year also recorded the best overall WAEC results since Ghana joined the Council, with 88 percent of all West African candidates who scored eight A’s coming from Ghana. The top three candidates in the entire sub-region were also Ghanaians,” he stated.

Dr Opoku Prempeh further explained that the double-track system, contrary to criticisms, actually increased student contact hours — the key determinant of learning outcomes.

Before Free SHS, he noted, the annual contact hours stood at 1080 which translates into three (3) terms in a year.

However, the implementation of Free SHS increased the contact hours to 1,134 through a restructured academic timetable. This translates into two (2) semester in a year.

He clarified that the double-track arrangement simply shifted schools from the traditional three-term system to a semester-based structure, which enabled more effective teaching and learning.

Furthermore, the semester-based structure system added 54 hours contact hours a year.

This means that in the three-year period, 162 more contact hours were added to enable the students fully complete all the courses they were reading.

“During the full six (6) semesters before exams ensured full contact time for the curricula before the WASSCE exams compared to a loss of three (3) terms (1080) in the nine (9) terms”, he asserted.

Dr Prempeh revealed that, prior to the policy, academic calendars were often disrupted, with school selection and placement processes sometimes extending into December.

In some years, he said, first-year students missed an entire first term, contributing to poor outcomes.

Know all 25 private schools included in the Free SHS policy

“Under the old nine-term structure, three terms were effectively wasted. That is why examination results from that era were consistently poor.

At one point, WASSCE examinations began in February, even though February was not the second term, leaving students disengaged for long stretches,” he argued.

Dr Opoku Prempeh also referenced the Anamuah-Mensah Committee report, instituted under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, which recommended extending the SHS duration to improve learning.

He said the subsequent four-year system produced excellent results until it was reversed under the Mills administration a period during which, he claimed, the NDC government did not publish WASSCE results due to the stark performance gap.

He stressed that Ghana’s educational outcomes have consistently shown that the decisive factor is not the number of terms in the school year but the number of instructional hours available to students.

Ghana losing over $500m annually to poor sanitation – Ahmed Ibrahim

0

The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has raised alarm over Ghana’s worsening sanitation crisis, revealing that the country loses more than $500 million every year due to poor sanitation management, while three out of every four households still lack access to basic private toilets.

According to the ministry, only 25% of Ghanaian households have access to improved, non-shared toilet facilities. Meanwhile, 18% of the national population continues to practise open defecation, with the Upper East Region recording rates as high as 49%.

Speaking in Accra during a stakeholder engagement to mark World Toilet Day, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, described the situation as unacceptable for a lower-middle-income country.

He attributed the slow progress to households treating toilet facilities as optional, chronic underfunding of sanitation systems, rapid urbanisation, and weak enforcement of sanitation bye-laws by local assemblies.

“Our urban population is rapidly growing at 3.3% annually, one of the highest in Africa, and has overtaken the pace of urban sanitation infrastructure development. In Accra alone, the population has grown by more than 60% in the last two decades, but the expansion of sewerage systems has been minimal,” he said.

Mr Ibrahim called for a complete overhaul in attitudes toward sanitation, stressing that a “Toilet for All” agenda can only be achieved through shared responsibility. He said households must invest in private toilets, traditional leaders must enforce community norms, and local assemblies must penalise non-compliance to drive behavioural change.

Gov’t to upgrade Mankraso SHS after impressive NSMQ performance – Haruna Iddrisu

0

The government has announced that Mankraso Senior High School will receive a major upgrade following its impressive showing in the just-ended National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to scaling up high-performing schools and strengthening academic competitiveness nationwide.

Speaking to the media in Accra on Wednesday, November 19, the Minister revealed that Mankraso SHS had been added to the list of schools set for expansion under a broader upgrading programme.

“We intend to expand 10 category B schools to A, and 10 category C schools to B, and then expand some areas. And then, to many of the schools that may be listening to me, on my way here, I have added Mankraso Senior High School based on their performance at the National Science and Maths Quiz. My heart is warmed to reach out to them to know that their country appreciates that,” he said.

The upgrade is expected to enhance the school’s capacity, improve learning infrastructure, and position Mankraso SHS as a stronger competitor in national academic contests while supporting broader access to quality education.

Beyond this, the Minister also disclosed that government will complete 30 community day senior high schools—also known as e-blocks—under the 2026 budget allocation.

“We intend, under the $180 million, to complete 30 community-based senior high schools, which is referred to as an e-block,” he stated.

According to him, the combined interventions are aimed at expanding equitable access and ensuring that more schools have the facilities to deliver strong academic outcomes.

New GSS data shows bribery declining, but repeat payments surge as Police MTTD tops list

0

New data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) paints a nuanced picture of citizens’ interactions with public officials in the first half of 2025.

The Governance Series Wave Two report reveals that 14.3 percent of respondents admitted giving a gift or money to a public official between January and June 2025, down from 18.4 percent in the previous survey.

While the overall decline is encouraging, the report highlights a concerning trend: repeat giving has surged. The share of people who reported giving gifts five or more times rose sharply from 6.9 percent to 24 percent.

Government statistician Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu emphasized that the Governance Series provides timely, citizen-centered data that can inform reforms. He urged policymakers to use the evidence to strengthen public trust and improve service delivery.

The report notes that money remains the most common form of gift, with more than half of those who gave reporting amounts of 100 Ghana cedis or less. Direct requests from officials fell from 51.3 percent to 38.6 percent, while voluntary gifts offered as tokens of appreciation nearly doubled from 17.6 percent to 32.9 percent. Reporting of bribery incidents to official or informal channels also declined.

Frontline services continue to register the highest incidence of informal payments, with the Motor Traffic and Transport Division (MTTD) of the Police Service remaining the agency most frequently associated with gifts or bribes, though the share decreased from 61 percent to 51.9 percent. These figures highlight the ongoing need for stronger oversight and more effective complaint mechanisms.

The report also records positive trends in civic inclusion. The proportion of Ghanaians who feel ordinary people can influence public decision-making rose from 54.8 percent to 68.4 percent, while those who feel completely excluded fell from 42.4 percent to 29.2 percent. Gains were strongest among young people aged 18 to 24, seniors aged 65 and above, and persons facing difficulties in performing daily activities.

However, regional disparities persist. The North East, Upper East, and Northern regions continue to report the highest perceptions of exclusion.

ECOWAS decision won’t impact Torkornoo’s substantive case

0

Nii Ayikoi Otoo, lawyer for former Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, has stated that the ECOWAS Court’s dismissal of her client’s interim application to halt the investigative committee does not affect the substantive case challenging her removal from office.

According to him, the court’s decision dealt only with preliminary issues and does not alter the human rights claims Justice Torkornoo has brought before the regional court.

Gertrude Torkornoo filed the case alleging a breach of her right to a fair hearing as protected under Ghana’s 1992 Constitution and the 1991 Protocol of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice.

During proceedings, Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, representing the state, argued that the ECOWAS Court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

However, in a Zoom sitting on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the court dismissed the state’s objection, ruling that Justice Torkornoo had demonstrated a prima facie case of fundamental human rights violations, giving the court jurisdiction to hear the matter.

Reacting to the decision during an interview with Joy FM, Otoo said, “So, per our simple understanding, this does not affect the larger substantive matter at all. The ECOWAS Court operates whether or not a case is pending in your country.”

He noted that by rejecting Ghana’s objection based on the existence of cases in local courts, the ECOWAS Court had cleared the way for the substantive hearing to continue.

The lawyer further described the interim ruling as inconsequential in relation to ongoing developments in Ghana, including the appointment and swearing-in of the new Chief Justice,  Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.

“Why are they disputing that an interim application has been dismissed? Because that interim had been overtaken by events,” he said.

Ayikoi Otoo confirmed that the ECOWAS Court has now instructed the Ghanaian government to file its response to Justice Torkornoo’s application within 30 days, paving the way for the main human rights issues to be examined.

He stressed that although proceedings are ongoing in Ghana, the ECOWAS Court retains jurisdiction over human rights matters.

“The preliminary objection has been dismissed, and they have been given 30 days to file their processes. So you’re just proceeding to the substantive matter, with or without them,” he added.

Justice Torkornoo was suspended on April 22, 2025, and a committee chaired by Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang was set up to investigate matters leading to her removal.

The management of Stanbic Bank Ghana has handed over a renovated and refurbished ICT centre to the Ledzokuku Southern Cluster of Schools at a special ceremony in Accra.

Aside from the renovation, the bank provided 30 computers, five laptops, one projector, one projector screen, two stabilisers, two air conditioners, and 40 swivel chairs, among others.

A total of 2,597 learners from 13 schools in the enclave are expected to use the ICT centre.

The facility, which is strategically located, will benefit schools such as Teshie LEKMA 1 JHS, Teshie LEKMA 7 Primary, Teshie Camp 1 Primary, Teshie LEKMA 7 JHS, Teshie LEKMA 5 & 9 Primary, and others.

Speaking during the commissioning of the project, Mr. George Abban, Acting Chief Information Officer, said the support was the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the people of the area, and hoped that it would help improve the lives of the people.

He urged the learners to make good use of the facility to upgrade their skills to make them more competitive wherever they might find themselves after their education.

Mr. Abban announced that, to help promote the teaching and learning of ICT in the area, a team from the bank would visit the facility to engage both teachers and learners, to improve effective teaching and learning.

He appealed to the various stakeholders in the area to take good care of the facility so that it would last longer and serve the purpose for which it was established.

The Municipal Director of Education for Ledzokuku, Mrs. Theresa Tetteh, in her address, eulogised Stanbic Bank for the support which would go a long way to enhance the teaching and learning of ICT in the beneficiary schools.

She pledged to take good care of the facility and appealed to other institutions to emulate the good gesture by Stanbic Bank, by complementing government’s effort in providing resources for effective teaching and learning.

Ms. Tetteh called on the beneficiaries to take a keen interest in the use of the facility to sharpen their skills, use the space to grow and innovate, as well as uplift and support one another.

Again, she appealed to parents to monitor what their children watch online to avoid being exposed to wrong information, which could affect their future development.

Akwatia MP disagrees with ECOWAS Court on jurisdiction ruling

0

The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, has disagreed with the ECOWAS Court’s decision to assume jurisdiction in the case filed by former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, even though he respects the court’s final position.

The MP, who is also a lawyer, argued that Ghana is a sovereign country with its own constitutional processes, which he believes were fully followed in the removal of the former chief justice.

All 246 passengers rescued after ferry runs aground in South Korea

0

All 246 passengers of a South Korean passenger ferry have been rescued after it ran aground on rocks off the country’s south-east coast, according to the Coast Guard.

Officials added that the Queen Jenuvia 2 is stuck on a reef and unable to move, but there is currently no risk of sinking or capsizing.

The accident happened near Jangsan Island in Sinan County on Wednesday evening local time. The vessel ran aground on rocks near the uninhabited island of Jogdo.

Local media reported that five people sustained minor injuries from the impact of the grounding, but there have been no other casualties.

Some crew members are reportedly still on board in collaboration with the coast guard. It is unclear how many of the 21 ferry staff remain on the ferry.

South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok has ordered all available vessels to be mobilised to rescue the ferry.

“We have confirmed that there is currently no flooding. We are transferring passengers to patrol boats and moving them to a safe location,” a Coast Guard official said, Chosun Ilbo newspaper reports.

The Coast Guard plans to move the vessel ashore at high tide.

The 26,000-tonne ferry was travelling to the port city of Mokpo after departing from the resort island of Jeju, carrying 246 passengers and 21 crew members, officials said.

The area is near the site of the sinking of the Sewol ferry in 2014 that killed more than 300 people, mostly school children heading for a school trip.

The salvaged wreck of the Sewol ferry was brought to Mokpo nearly three years later.

Democracy Hub disassociates itself from mobiliser’s false galamsey allegations

Democracy Hub has disassociated itself from comments made by one of its community mobilisers, Wendell Yeboah, who recently alleged on a live radio program that three regional ministers were involved in illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as galamsey.

Yeboah, introduced during the interview as Head of Mobilisation for Democracy Hub, claimed that Eastern Regional Minister Rita Awatey, Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson, and Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene were implicated in galamsey operations.

His remarks gave the impression that they were endorsed by the organisation.

Democracy Hub, Barker-Vormawor sue Cheddar

In a press release dated November 19, 2025, Democracy Hub said it had investigated the claims and found them to be “baseless, irresponsible and spurious.”

The organisation stressed that the allegations “were completely without merit, untrue and do not in any way represent anything we stand for.”

The group, which has previously taken civil action against those who make false allegations about its work, said it takes such misconduct seriously.

As part of disciplinary measures, Yeboah has been suspended from all media engagements on behalf of Democracy Hub, with further actions under discussion.

Democracy Hub also indicated it would engage with the ministers named in the allegations to explore ways to strengthen the fight against galamsey.

“This is a fight we are all committed to; and it is a fight Democracy Hub believes can and must be won,” the statement said.

Kofi Ofosu-Nkansah is former CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) Kofi Ofosu-Nkansah is former CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP)

Former CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu-Nkansah, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could have delivered even greater results under the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative with increased investment and support.

Speaking on Kasapa FM on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, he noted that although the programme recorded significant gains, more resources would have expanded job opportunities for the youth.

“Although we opened and supported 170 factories to be operational under the 1D1F policy, I still believe we could have done better,” he said.

Despite this, he maintained that the NPP government made substantial progress in industrialisation and employment creation.

“We opened several factories and also assisted many existing ones to branch into other sectors so they can employ Ghanaians. We opened and operated 170 factories under the 1D1F policy. In Accra and Kumasi alone, we operated 144 factories, which is laudable,” he stated.

Kofi Ofosu-Nkansah added that these achievements position the Akufo-Addo administration as one of the most impactful governments in terms of job creation.

Daddy Lumba did not marry Odo Broni – Elder sister tells court

0

An elder sister of highlife musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, has told a Kumasi High Court that though she knew of a relationship between her late brother and Priscilla Ofori, also known as Odo Broni, there was no marriage between the duo.

Ernestina Fosuh, also known as Akosua Brempomaah, says though her brother’s relationship with Odo Broni produced six children, including a third child that her brother named after her, there was no marriage between the two.

The legitimacy of the alleged marriage between Daddy Lumba and Priscilla Ofori, is being contested in court by Akosua Serwaa Fosuh who claims to be the legal wife of the deceased

Madam Serwaa is praying the Court to make an order that she is the only surviving spouse of Daddy Lumba, and the one who has the right to perform widowhood rite.

She also wants the court to compel Priscilla Ofori, also known as Odo Broni to refrain from referring to herself as wife of the late musician.

Ernestina Fosuh, testifying under oath during cross-examination told the court presided over by Her Lady, Dorinda Smith-Arthur that her brother, the late musician, confided in her about almost everything, including his relationship with Odo Broni.

She told the court his brother relocated to Ghana to work on his housing project and also get treatment for a back issue as a result of a lorry accident he had.

Asked why the wife, Akosua Serwaa Fosuh did not relocate to Ghana to join her husband, Ernestina Fosuh told the court her late brother advised the wife not to be frequenting Ghana because of the high cost of air tickets and also because of a € 50,000 loan his brother took from a financial institution in Germany.

But defense lawyer, Dominic Kwadwo Osei interjected, insisting no such loan was contracted, which is the reason Ernestina could not provide evidence in court.

But Ernestina Fosuh insisted that evidence, written in Dutch, was available on her phone, insisting she was only saying what his brother told her.

When defense counsel pressed further, drawing Ernestina Fosuh’s attention to Plaintiff’s reply to the 2nd defendant on 29th October 2025 that the loan contracted was €100,000 and not €50,000, and that the witness account was misleading, the witness stood on her ground, explaining she has told the court what she knows.

On the issue of who took care of Daddy Lumba when he was unwell in the witness’s absence, Brempomaa told the court it was the deceased’s girlfriend, Odo Broni who took care of him while she Brempomaah provided them all they needed.

As far as Ernestina Fosuh was concerned, his late brother, Charles Kwadwo Fosuh married Akosua Serwaa Fosuh at customary and civil marriage ceremonies at Bomso and Germany in 1991 and 2004, respectively—ceremonies she witnessed.

Akosua Brempomaah admitted in court she was aware her late brother had six children with Priscilla Ofori, also known as Odo Broni, including the 3rd born named after her. She added her late brother named all his third-borns after her.

According to her, though she did not inform Akosua Serwaa that her brother had children with Odo Broni, she got to know through her kids, who usually visited Daddy Lumba during vacations.

But it was Akosua Brempomaah’s response to defense counsel’s question as to whether she has ever acknowledged Priscilla Ofori or Odo Broni as a sister-in-law that brought a twist to the matter.

Lawyer Dominic Kwadwo Osei submitted a video recording in which Priscilla Ofori wished Brempomaah, her sister-in-law, a happy birthday on DL FM.

An audio recording Brempomaah later told the court looks like her voice acknowledged Odo Broni as her “Akumaa” in Twi, to wit, sister-in-law.

This evidence was later admitted in court because Plaintiff’s counsel raised no objections.

Madam Ernestina Fosuh, however, dismissed aversions by defense counsel that it was Theresah Abrebrese who performed the in-law rites when the former’s mother died.

According to her, though, Theresah supported the family because of the good relationship between the Fosuhs and the former; it was Akosua Serwaa Fosuh who performed the “Nseyie”.

She also told the court how her deceased brother, Daddy Lumba attended the funeral of the late mother of Akosua Serwaa Fosuh in his black top and black down cloth.

But in a response as to whether the witness was in a good relationship with the second defendant four months before the death of the highlife legend, she said she has never had any issue with Odo Broni.

Before the court adjourned proceedings, counsel for Odo Broni, Akwasi Nyarko put it to Brempomaah that the late musician underwent surgery in 2013 at FOCOS at Pantang and not Tantra Hills as suggested by the witness. She had told the court she visited her sick brother at a hospital at Tantra Hills upon her return from Germany.

Hearing continues on Wednesday with Ernestina Fosuh mounting the witness box again.

Kumasi-Accra Expressway; No contractor will construct more than 10 Km – Dr. Amoakohehene

By: Nicholas Osei-Wusu

To ensure government’s commitment to delivering the new Kumasi-Accra Expressway within the three-year time-frame, more local contractors are being engaged to take up different lots of the project. To this end, no single contractor will have more than 10Km of the stretch for construction, unlike other road projects which have single or fewer contractors working on long stretches.

2026 budget revenue measures will fail again – Amin Adam

0

Member of Parliament for Karaga, Mohammed Amin Adam, has cast doubt on the government’s ability to meet its revenue expectations for 2026, arguing that similar measures implemented in 2025 failed to deliver the projected results.

Speaking on the government’s new fiscal plans in Parliament on Wednesday November 19, the Karaga MP said the Ministry of Finance appears to be relying on approaches that have already proven ineffective.

According to him, if compliance-driven revenue gains and the removal of import exemptions were capable of closing the revenue gap, they would have done so in 2025.

“2025 had these similar measures and 2025 showed that the measures underperformed. If compliance gains could ensure that we address the revenue shortfall, it would have done it for us. If removing import exemptions could have raised revenue it would have done it for us this year.

“Unfortunately these measures failed. And this is why I am confident that the revenue measures in the 2026 budget are not realistic,” he said.

His concerns add to the growing debate over the feasibility of the government’s 2026 revenue target. Earlier this week, Dr. Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru, MP for Walewale and former Economic Advisor to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, also questioned the credibility of the projections.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View, Dr. Abdul-Kabiru warned that the Finance Minister’s plan to raise GH¢268 billion in total revenue and grants—representing 16.8 percent of GDP—may be overly optimistic. He noted that achieving such a target would require an unprecedented jump from this year’s estimated 11 percent of GDP.

The government has attributed the expected increase in revenue to improved non-oil tax collections, enhanced compliance, digitalisation and measures aimed at broadening the tax base. Expenditure for the 2026 fiscal year is projected at GH¢302.5 billion, while total revenue and grants are expected to reach GH¢268.1 billion.

The Finance Minister has argued that the 2026 plan aligns with the medium-term fiscal framework, citing a projected overall fiscal deficit of GH¢34.4 billion and a primary surplus of GH¢23.3 billion. But with multiple experts and lawmakers questioning the realism of the numbers, the debate over the government’s revenue strategy is set to intensify in the coming weeks.

GMA condemns violence at Northern Regional Hospital

0

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has condemned violent incidents at the Northern Regional Hospital, formerly Tamale Central Hospital, following a viral video circulating on social media.

The footage reportedly shows some youth besieging the hospital, locking up the office of the Medical Director and other administrative offices, and barricading the Outpatients Department.

In a statement, the GMA described the acts as lawless and dangerous, warning that such behaviour endangers the lives of patients and staff, as well as hospital property. The Association expressed concern over a growing trend of youth groups storming health facilities to threaten managers instead of following proper procedures to resolve grievances.

The GMA is urging the police to take swift action against those responsible. It also called on traditional leaders to intervene, urging the youth to follow appropriate channels to address their concerns. Additionally, the Association appealed to the leadership of the Ghana Health Service to ensure adequate protection for the Medical Director and all hospital staff while resolving any issues.

Dr. (Dent) Richard Selormey, GMA General Secretary, said the Association is closely monitoring the situation and will take further action if threats to health workers persist.

Chief who accepted a motorbike to permit illegal mining in his community destooled

0

Kingmakers and residents of Oseneso in the Wassa East District of the Western Region have destooled their chief, Nana Yaw Gyesi I, due to allegations of his involvement in illegal mining activities.

The traditional ruler was accused of accepting a bribe of a motorcycle from the illegal miners in exchange for allowing them to mine in the community.

Heath faces the heat: Angry Bogoso-Prestea ex-workers demand payment of severance packages in fierce protests

0

Convenor of the Former Workers of Bogoso Prestea-Mines, Gabriel Madobi and some executives of the group

Disengaged workers of the Bogoso-Prestea Mine have escalated their standoff with the current operator, Heath Goldfields Limited (HGL), by demanding severance packages owed to more than 400 ex-staff.

At a charged press conference held at the Ghana International Press Centre on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Convenor of the Former Workers of Bogoso Prestea-Mines Union, Gabriel Madobi, detailed the plight of members who have to fend for themselves and their families for several months without any source of funds.

He told MyJoyOnline that five members have lost their lives as they battled illness, depression and frustration, having worked for several years and been laid off without any financial compensation.

“When Health Goldfields came, they promised to pay everything – SSNIT contributions, Provident Fund, leave balances and a redundancy package – but you keep on rescheduling the date, and it’s been more than two years,” he lamented.

The workers, who gathered at a news conference dressed in red attire to register their grievances, formally rejected a payment schedule based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghana Mine Workers Union.

“We wish to state clearly that we are not bound by this MoU. It does not align with the Labour Act, and, by its very nature, does not create the same enforceable obligations as statutory law.”

They declared the MoU “unlawful” and non-binding, demanding their severance and outstanding entitlements be paid immediately under the provisions of Ghana’s primary labour legislation.

The move marks a significant hardening of the workers’ position, who assert that HGL’s failure to settle debts after years of management proves the company’s lack of financial capacity.

They now demand that the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Armah Kofi Buah, force HGL to “step aside” for a more capable firm.

HGL inherited the mining lease on the premise of clearing legacy debts and stabilising operations following the termination of the previous operator, Future Global Resources (FGR).

However, the new management proceeded to disengage a “substantial number of employees” under the guise of “operational restructuring” and placing the mine under “care and maintenance”.

The workers provided a clear timeline of HGL’s failed payment commitments:

  • August 27, 2025 (Memo): HGL promised to settle all outstanding Provident Fund contributions by the end of August , and finalize payments to disengaged workers by the end of September.
  • November 19, 2025 (Current Status): Only about half of the affected workers have received their Provident Fund contributions. End of Contract Benefits, Outstanding Leave Balances, and the 2023 Bonus remain unpaid.
  • October 6, 2025 (Revised Memo): The company further shook workers’ confidence by extending the payment deadline to December 2025.

They cited the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), Section 18, which “makes it clear… that all outstanding remuneration must be paid upon termination of employment”.

They state that the minister’s directives to HGL, which included a fresh 120-day notice to address all outstanding entitlements, reinforce this statutory obligation.

The workers painted a grim picture of the consequences resulting from the prolonged delays, stressing that HGL’s failures have destroyed their ability to live with dignity.

“The human cost and suffering caused by this disengagement is undeniable. The livelihoods of long-serving, hard-working Ghanaians have been destroyed. Many had believed that Heath Goldfields, being the new operator, would bring relief, but instead, we now face joblessness, uncertainty, and financial distress.”

They revealed that their families are struggling to afford food, education, and healthcare , and tragically, “Some workers have died without receiving their lawful entitlements.”

In their final appeal to Mr Armah Kofi Buah, the workers demanded immediate action, arguing that HGL’s track record demonstrates an inability to operate a major national asset sustainably.

“It has become increasingly clear that Heath Goldfields cannot live up to their financial obligations under the lease acquisition; the time has come for them to step aside for a more financially capable operator to be brought on board to operate the Bogoso-Prestea Mine.”

Leader of the Osofo Kyiri Abosom Ministries and founder of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has stated that he would not hesitate to set his political party aside in favour of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if President John Dramani Mahama continues to deliver.

In an interview shared on X on November 19, 2025, he explained that his stance is influenced by President Mahama’s current leadership style.

According to him, the president’s performance so far is commendable, and if Mahama maintains this trajectory, he will willingly suspend his party activities and support the NDC.

“He has done very well, and I am happy with his style of leadership. What he is doing right now will help the country. If John Mahama can continue his good work, I will put GUM on hold during election time and join the NDC,” he said.

Osofo Kyiri Abosom also called for constitutional reforms that could extend President Mahama’s tenure to a third term.

“If we can change the constitution for Mahama to rule for a third term, I will be happy. I even pray that he will have the strength to continue the third term because I want Ghana to develop.”

He further disclosed that he previously belonged to both major political parties.

“I was an NDC member during Jerry John Rawlings’ time until I switched to the NPP during Kufuor’s era. I was an NPP card-bearing member and even campaigned for Akufo-Addo, but I switched when his administration began to underperform,” he added.

David Gowu speaking at the event

Ghana has taken a bold step toward becoming a leading global business services hub with the official launch of the Business Outsourcing Services Association Ghana (BOSAG) 5-Year Strategic Plan aimed at creating 100,000 sustainable international-facing jobs for Ghanaian youth by 2030.

The BOSAG 5-Year Strategic Plan is designed to position Ghana as a premier destination for global business services, leveraging the country’s competitive workforce, growing digital infrastructure, and strategic location.

At its core, the plan focuses on five strategic pillars that will drive this transformation: raising international visibility and client engagement, driving skills development and talent readiness, promoting and supporting local sector and operator capability building, facilitating policy advocacy and public-private alignment, as well as enabling sector research and knowledge sharing.

These pillars represent a comprehensive approach to building a robust outsourcing ecosystem—one that connects Ghana to global markets, empowers local operators, and ensures that talent development aligns with international standards.

Speaking at the launch, David Gowu, CEO of BOSAG and a founding board member, reflected on this journey, “Three years ago, we asked ourselves how Ghana could compete globally in outsourcing and digital services. Today, that vision has become a reality. It is humbling to see this plan come to life—a roadmap that will transform Ghana’s digital economy and create opportunities for thousands of young people.”

Delivering a statement on behalf of the Chief of Staff, Shamima Muslim underscored the significance of this initiative, saying, “BOSAG’s strategic plan builds on Ghana’s digital transformation legacy. It presents a bold and coordinated roadmap to unlock 100,000 sustainable international-facing jobs for Ghanaian youth by 2030.

“This is not just a number—it is a promise to our young people, a commitment to inclusive growth, and a strategy to harness the full potential of our digital infrastructure, our competitive workforce, and our strategic location.”

Representing the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology & Innovations, Bishop Dr. Samuel Antwi-Gyekyi highlighted the ministry’s broader commitment to building a resilient, investor-ready digital economy.

He announced strategic partnerships with global technology firms such as Huawei, MTN, Amazon Web Services, and Oracle to deliver specialised training modules and accelerate digital skills development.

Additionally, the ministry is finalising new legislation including the Ghana Startup Act, Cybersecurity Regulations, and frameworks for artificial intelligence (AI), cloud services, and digital trade to create a modern, secure, and enabling environment for innovation and investment.

GNA holds regional managers’ conference to review performance, set 2026 priorities

By Edward Acquah

Accra, Nov. 19, GNA – The Management of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday opened a three-day regional managers’ conference to assess the Agency’s performance over the past year and develop strategies to strengthen its operations for 2026 and beyond.

The meeting, underway in Accra, has brought together regional managers from across the country to review coverage outputs, examine thematic reporting, and discuss operational challenges affecting news gathering and dissemination.

At the opening session, the regional managers presented reports highlighting performance trends, with emphasis on coverage of national development issues, institutional events, and community-level activities.

Management also briefed participants on ongoing projects, partnerships, and new initiatives aimed at enhancing the Agency’s visibility and operational efficiency.

Mr Albert Kofi Owusu, the General Manager of GNA, said the meeting formed part of efforts to ensure continuous improvement in the Agency’s core mandate of providing accurate, balanced and nationwide reportage.

He said the Agency carried a national responsibility that demanded commitment at all levels.

“With a mandate to report on this country – from community activities to national developments – we hold an important responsibility,” he said.

“We are proud to execute this mandate despite the challenges, and each of you continues to contribute in diverse ways.”

Mr Owusu said the conference provided a platform for management and regional leaders to clarify operational concerns and align on common goals, reminding participants that the Agency’s success depended on collective effort.

“Whatever we do, we are in this organisation together and we have to succeed. If GNA does well, it reflects on all of us,” he said.

The conference will deliberate on priority areas for 2026, including content diversification, digital transformation, capacity building, and strengthened regional coordination.

Participants are expected to collectively develop an action plan to guide operations and reinforce the Agency’s contribution to national development.

Established on the eve of Ghana’s independence in 1957, the GNA is Ghana’s official newswire service mandated to provide independent, objective, and comprehensive coverage of national events and development issues.

The Agency operates in all regions and supplies news to both local and international media organisations.

Mr Owusu expressed confidence that the meeting would help reaffirm the Agency’s strategic direction and address emerging challenges.

Cedi Symbolises Ghana’s Identity – Mahama

0

President John Mahama (M) flanked by Dr. Johnson Asiama (L) and Dr. Zakari Mumuni

President John Mahama says the Cedi does not serve as a unit of neither account nor a medium of exchange but symbolises the country’s identity and capacity to manage its monetary affairs.

Speaking at the Cedi at 60 Currency International Conference in Accra yesterday, President Mahama stated, “Sixty years ago, Ghana took a bold and sovereign step by introducing the cedi not merely as a unit of account nor a medium of exchange but as a declaration of independence, our identity and the capacity of our State.

“The cedi at 60 is more than a celebration, it is a moment for analysis, it is a chance to consider what our currency stands for, how it has developed, and how it must be fortified for the years ahead”.

According to President Mahama, the world is experiencing the emergence of a hybrid monetary eco-system a new paradigm, where cash electronic payment and digital assets co-exists.

That, he indicated, has tested traditional monitoring policies, making trust in institutions as crucial as technical capacities and placing a significant responsibility on central banks not just as regulators of money but as guardians of trust.

He said the conference provides Ghana and Africa with invaluable platforms for evidenced based dialogue, comparative learning and forward looking policy innovation heightened by Ghana’s notable progress over the past ten months in achieving macroeconomic stability and restoring confidence in the country’s economy and currency.

“Ghana’s gains must be protected, consolidated and expanded through policy discipline and institutional coherence. The core principle of effective economic management is an independent credible and professionally insulated central bank,” he stated.

President Mahama, therefore, urged the Bank of Ghana to strengthen nationwide public education on promoting the use of the cedi in all domestic transactions in order to help strengthen economic stability and reduce unnecessary exposure to exchange rate volatility.

Gov’t to employ 6100 teachers from 2023 cohort

0

Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has responded to the peaceful protests by unposted teachers who hit the streets on Wednesday to demand postings.

Addressing journalists on November 19, the Minister reaffirmed that the education sector remains Ghana’s largest employer. He noted that resolving issues concerning unposted teachers is a key government priority, and steps are already underway to place them in schools.

Haruna Iddrisu announced that Cabinet has approved the recruitment of 6,100 teachers, all from the 2023 graduate cohort, who he said have been duly accounted for in government recruitment records.

“Education remains Ghana’s largest employer. I understand that some striking teachers are looking for us on the streets of Accra. To respond to them, Cabinet gave approval for us to recruit some 6100 more teachers and therefore that category of teachers would belong to the 2023 cohort, are adequately captured,” he said.

He stressed that government remains committed to integrating trained teachers into the system, adding that the ongoing recruitment will help clear part of the backlog of unposted educators.

The Minister further urged the protesting teachers to return to their offices for verification processes.

“I will be surprised if it is the same group that is on the streets. They rather should be looking for us and going back to offices for purpose of audit and identification to be reinstated to be paid,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers from the Colleges of Education has staged a demonstration to demand postings after multiple appeals to government.

The group, comprising the 2022 and 2023 backlog, says its members have not been posted despite passing the Teacher Licensure Examination and completing national service.

The protest began at Tema Station in Accra and is expected to move to the Jubilee House, where the group plans to submit a petition to the presidency.

Mahama is managing the economy better than Akufo-Addo – Haruna Iddrisu

0

Tamale South MP and Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, says President John Mahama is demonstrating stronger economic leadership than former President Nana Akufo-Addo, pointing to the structure and priorities of the 2026 national budget as clear evidence.

“Without any fear of contradiction, President Mahama is managing the economy better than Nana Addo (former president) as president of the Republic of Ghana,” he asserted.

Speaking at a media engagement on Wednesday, November 19, on the education allocation in the 2026 budget, Mr Iddrisu argued that the current administration has shown “superior management” in dealing with Ghana’s debt.

“In terms of debt management, we have demonstrated superior management. If you doubt me, go to President Akufo-Addo’s own speech, when he says that one of his regrets is submitting Ghana to a debt exchange,” he said.

He encouraged the public to maintain confidence in the Mahama-led government, insisting the administration’s economic reset agenda is on course.

“To those of you, I won’t say men of little faith, have confidence and trust in President Mahama; 2025 is the beginning of his reset initiative. We primarily focus on correcting the wrongs in the management of the economy before the period 2025.”

The minister added that the allocations made to the education sector reflect prudent financial management and a renewed commitment to human capital development.

He maintained that President Mahama’s approach offers a more sustainable pathway for stabilising the economy while ensuring key social sectors receive the needed attention to drive long-term national progress.

Mr Iddrisu expressed optimism that “in 2026, President Mahama will focus primarily on resetting Ghana with his governance agenda of leading the process for constitution, administrative and legal reforms of the country so that we can serve the country better.”

According to him, hiplife became a vehicle through which young talents found their voices and discovered new avenues to earn a living.

Extradition of former MASLOC boss almost done – Attorney General confirms

0

Sedina Tamakloe Attionu is a former MASLOC boss Sedina Tamakloe Attionu is a former MASLOC boss

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has disclosed that his office is working with the United States government to get former Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, who has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, back into the country to serve her jail term.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, Dr Ayine indicated that the processes to extradite her are far advanced, adding that the United States government is now crossing all the t’s before releasing Tamakloe to Ghana.

He made these remarks while refuting assertions that the John Dramani Mahama government has done nothing to get the former MASLOC boss into the country.

“The Office of the Attorney General is awaiting the execution of our request to have her extradited to serve her prison sentence in Ghana. The International Cooperation Unit of the Attorney General’s Department followed up on our request with the Department of Justice of the United States of America in September 2025.

“So if there is any impression being created that I am not taking any steps, this is the evidence that in September, that is just a month ago, I took the step of inquiring from the United States Justice Department about the steps that they were taking in respect of the extradition.”

He added, “They indicated that they are following their extradition procedures in executing the request and that the fugitive will be extradited as soon as they have satisfied all the procedures. Thank you, Mr Speaker.”

Former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe sentenced to 10 years in jail for causing financial loss

A High Court in Accra sentenced a former Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC (Microfinance and Small Loans Centre) to 10 years in prison with hard labour for causing financial loss of GH¢90 million to the state in April 2024.

Daniel Axim, who is also a former Chief Operating Officer of MASLOC, was sentenced to five years in prison with hard labour.

The two were found guilty on 78 counts of causing financial loss to the state, stealing, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, and causing loss to public property in contravention of public procurement law.

The case first began in 2019; however, during the course of the trial, Sedina Tamakloe travelled to the United States to seek medical attention.

She was tried in absentia after failing to return to Ghana.
