Treasury Bills (T-bills) are short-term government financial instruments that usually take from 91 to 365 days to mature.
The government uses treasury bills as a means to borrow money from the public to fund its activities.
When you buy treasury bills, the government is automatically borrowing from you and pays back when the set maturity date is up.
It is also one of the safest government investment instruments, and this was also proven when it was not included in the domestic debt restructuring exercise.
Here are 10 things to know about treasury bills.
1. Treasury bills are bought weekly.
2. Treasury bills have low to zero risk. Unless in the extreme case of the government’s collapse, your investment is safe.
3. There are no applicable transaction costs when buying treasury bills.
4. T-Bills can be used as collateral.
5. You can buy any amount you want, even exceeding the government’s weekly target.
6. Treasury bill auctions are held on Fridays and issued on Mondays.
7. Interest rates for treasury bills have low volatility and fall less often or deeper than other investments.
8. Interest on T-bills is higher than bank savings account rates.
9. Treasury bills can easily be converted into cash.
10. Both the principal and interest on T-bills can be rolled over to continue with the investment (roll over the principal) and take your interest.

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has explained that he prefers boxing over football because the former places responsibility directly on the wrongdoers.
He said the difference between the two sports is that football, as a team sport, can be ruined by one player, whereas boxers take sole responsibility for their actions.
Using bribery as an example, he noted that one player can influence the result of a football match by taking a bribe, while a boxer would have to endure heavy beatings if they fix a bout.
“I like boxing. In football, one person can be bribed and cause the team to lose, ruining all the hard work of the team.
“But have you ever seen a boxer who has been bribed to lose a bout? If you take the bribe, you are the one who is going to suffer the beatings. So in boxing, the responsibility is fixed on the person who takes the bribe, but in football, one person can ruin everything by taking a bribe behind the team’s back. That is why I like boxing,” he said in an interview on Radio Gold.
Asiedu Nketiah, commonly known as General Mosquito, made his assertion when asked which team he supports.
It is worth stating that in both football and boxing, there have been many instances of bribery scandals that have plagued the sports, with authorities continuously amending rules to help curb the situation and keep the games competitive.

In the early days of the Israel-Hamas war, Iran issued a baffling threat: if Israel did not relent in Gaza, Tehran would close the Strait of Gibraltar, the narrow maritime passage separating Africa from Europe and linking the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. At the time, the warning seemed hollow. Neither Iran nor any of its known proxies had a military presence near the strait capable of such a thing. Now, the logic behind the threat is coming into focus. A new Washington Post report on Hezbollah reveals a critical detail: Iran “trained fighters from the Algeria-based Polisario Front, a militant group fighting for the independence of the Western Sahara from Morocco, with hundreds now detained by Syria’s new forces.” Iran frequently relies on Hezbollah to train its other proxy forces. Polisario’s presence in Syria, fighting on behalf of the fallen, Tehran-backed regime of Bashar al-Assad, indicates the extent to which it functions as an Iranian proxy. In 2020, the United States recognized Western Sahara as Moroccan territory, rejecting Polisario’s bid for secession. Iran Tied to Polisario via Hezbollah While this connection is alarming, it is not new. In 2018, Morocco accused Tehran of providing financial and logistic support to the group through Iran’s Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah. “This month Hezbollah sent (surface-to-air) SAM9, SAM11 and Strela missiles to Polisario with the connivance of Iran’s embassy in Algiers,” said Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. Rabat severed diplomatic ties with Tehran over this incident. In 2022, a Polisario Front representative claimed that Iran would supply the group with kamikaze drones. A few weeks later, the Moroccan representative to the United Nations presented images confirming that Iran and Hezbollah supplied Polisario with “advanced weapons, including Iranian drones.” In January, videos circulating on social media simulated a Polisario attack on Morocco using drones. Algeria Is Polisario’s Main Backer Algeria bankrolls the Polisario Front, arms it, issues passports to its members, and hosts its leadership in the Tindouf refugee camps near its border with Morocco. Polisario operates with significant backing from the Algerian regime, which uses it to exert pressure on Morocco. In November 2024, Polisario fired rockets at a festival commemorating Morocco’s 1975 “Green March,” which saw 350,000 Moroccans march into the territory to remove Spanish troops, which colonized the territory since 1847. The projectiles landed adjacent to the Algerian border. Moroccan media reported that “Polisario’s attack was launched from inside Algerian territory.” The group’s ties to extremist groups run deep. Adnan Abu al-Walid al-Sahrawi — a notorious jihadist and former Islamic State emir in the Sahel — once held a senior position in Polisario. He was killed by French forces in Mali in 2021. His story reveals how Tindouf became a breeding ground for extremist militant organizations and a cross-border jihadist recruitment center for al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and the Islamic State. The cost extends to children. A Geneva-based NGO told the UN Human Rights Council, “Since the camps were established, Polisario leaders have blocked groups of children from finishing their education — forcing them instead into military training and armed action.” The report accuses the group of systematically exploiting thousands of minors for political and military ends. U.S. Should Open Consulate in Western Sahara and Designate Polisario as Terrorist Group The Trump administration should move quickly to open the promised U.S. consulate in Dakhla, reinforcing America’s commitment to Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. At the same time, the United States should consider designating Polisario Front as a foreign terrorist organization. Rita Talata Asobayire, Second Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has categorically denied claims circulating on social media suggesting that she made disparaging remarks about the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, in a report by the Oquaye Committee.
She described the quote as fabricated and warned of legal action should the claims persist.
The Chief Executive Officer of the State Investment Fund, Abass Nurudeen has assured the Post-COVID-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Project (PSDPEP) will be sustained to achieve its full potential.
Speaking at the first quarter technical committee meeting on the Project in Aburi, Mr. Nurudeen assured stakeholders of his unwavering support for the project.
He expressed gratitude to the outgoing project coordinator for the experience he has offered him.
“I came into office as a new CEO and within the shortest possible time, the experience I have gathered from the project coordinator and the staff around indicates that the institution will have a brighter future. The lessons, the work ethics I have acquired from you will be a guiding light to me as I discharge my duties. PSDPEP will be a success under my leadership,” he stated.
Participating institutions included MASLOC, Ghana News Agency (GNA), Association of Small Scale Industries (ASSI), the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service, Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA), and the University of Ghana’s Schools of Nursing, Biotechnology, and Microbiology.
The Technical Committee reviewed and adopted the 1st quarter report of the PSDPEP project, highlighting achievements, challenges, and key lessons learned. The team also discussed and approved the 2nd quarter work plan, which outlines strategic activities aimed at enhancing skills development and boosting productivity, especially among youth and vulnerable populations affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The outgoing project coordinator, Emmanuel Fordjour, emphasized the need to ensure the success of the project.
According to him, the PSDPEP project continues to play a vital role in supporting Ghana’s economic recovery efforts by promoting sustainable livelihoods, improving employability, and increasing productivity across sectors.
He called on all stakeholders to continue supporting the project to better the lives of the ordinary Ghanaians.
“This meeting is imperative to make sure that strategies are put in place to support Ghana’s economic recovery efforts by increasing productivity, improving employability and promoting livelihoods. All stakeholders must embrace strategies to make PSDPEP a success to improve the lives of the ordinary Ghanaian,” Fordjour stated.

Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) will hold a crucial emergency meeting on Monday afternoon to make a final decision regarding the future of the club’s technical team following a series of disappointing results in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign.
The club’s title hopes have all but faded after suffering two consecutive losses— a 3-0 defeat to Accra Lions in a thrilling encounter and a 2-0 loss to Nations FC in Abrankese last weekend. These setbacks have extended the team’s winless streak to four games, leaving their league prospects in jeopardy.
Supporters have intensified their calls for head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum’s immediate departure, following the team’s back-to-back losses in just five days.
According to sources close to the club, the IMC has decided to part ways with the 47-year-old coach, and an official announcement will be made following today’s meeting at the club’s secretariat.
The IMC has identified Abdul Karim Zito, former coach of Ghana’s U17 and U20 teams, as the leading candidate to replace Ogum. Zito, who also serves as the head coach and technical director of Dreams FC, has significant experience in the Ghana Premier League, having managed several clubs including Hearts of Oak, King Faisal, WAFA SC, B.A. Stars, and Medeama SC.
A former player for Asante Kotoko, Zito was part of the 1983 squad that won the club’s last CAF Champions League title. This would mark his second stint at the club, having previously served as a stopgap coach. Zito’s most recent success includes guiding Dreams FC to a historic semi-final appearance in the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup.

He also expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama, traditional authorities and stakeholders for their cooperation towards the peaceful approval of the MDCEs.
In an interview with the media in Sunyani, Mr Akwaboa said the Regional Coordinating Council would strictly monitor the activities of the MDAs to facilitate the holistic development of the region.
That would compel the MDAs to carry out government projects, and programmes and better the lives of the people, he said, assuring an effective collaboration between the RCC and the MDAs for the purpose of development.

Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has made the decision to step down as head coach of Asante Kotoko, according to sources close to the club. The formal announcement is expected soon.

By Benjamin Akoto Tepa, (Ashanti), April 21, GNA – The Sunyani Area of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) says it has intensified revenue collection efforts to recover GH¢30 million outstanding bills within its operational area.
Mr Eugene Odoi Addo, the Sunyani Area Manager of the NEDCo, described the outstanding bills as challenging, impeding efforts to supply electricity.
In an interview with the media on the side-lines of the company’s on-going mass revenue mobilization and loss control exercise at Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality of the Ashanti Region, Mr Addo said the company had set up and dispatched operational teams to recover the debts from customers.
The exercise is part of a broader initiative aimed at recovering a minimum of GH¢2 million in Tepa which is only a small portion of the total GH¢30 million debts, he explained, and urged customers to pay bills promptly.
“Non-payment of bills hinders NEDCo’s operations and affects the level of service delivery to customers, “he stated, adding, “when customers fail to pay their bills, it hampers our ability to maintain our equipment, promptly address faults, and make necessary improvements in the power supply system.”
Mr Addo explained that the Tepa exercise was a crucial component of the company’s revenue mobilization and loss control initiative, saying the exercise would be extended to other towns in the area.
He said customers who failed to settle their debts would be disconnected, saying the company was focusing on residential properties and private businesses for now.
Mr Addo said the Pro Royal, a local establishment, was disconnected due to an accumulated debt of GH¢20,710 saying several households at the Tepa Zongo also owed the company between GH¢11,000 and GH¢14,000.

The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jr, has expressed concern over the seemingly divided front of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, current happenings in the party has revealed a trend that suggests that different factions are fighting for control of the party.
“… I really want to wish the NPP well. But it is not our wishes that will transform their party,” Pratt said on Pan African TV on April 19, 2025, while contributing to the discussions on rebuilding the NPP after their 2024 Election defeat.
He indicated that his interactions with some notable members of the party have revealed that too many factions are fighting for supremacy.
He stated that there appears to be a group led by Sarah Adwoa Safo which has sworn that they would do everything possible to ensure that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia becomes the next leader of the NPP.
He added that there is also another group that aligns with former Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko.
He also mentioned another group which is currently pushing for a breakaway from the party because they believe the current leadership has swayed from their core values.
Pratt further noted that there were even more factions in the party who have either one concern or another.
He subsequently stated that considering the current state of the party, an experienced member who is a unifier is direly needed to bring all factions together to initiate a rebuilding process.
He cautioned that if the party does not urgently take steps to resolve their differences and mobilise, they risk losing their members to a new appendage of the party as suggested by Dr Amoako Baah in multiple media reports.
“The party itself has a responsibility to respect its core values. The party itself has the responsibility to put knowledgeable and responsible people in positions of leadership. The party has the responsibility to understand the Ghanaian condition.
“If you don’t do that; well, it is possible that a party can spring up to give the NDC the challenge it needs. It is also possible that the party will go into extinction. If you don’t do that, so many possibilities await you in future,” he warned.
It is exactly two months ago that the BBC dropped a bombshell documentary about dangerous opioids flooding some West African countries like Ghana.
What was bizarre about the video was the involvement of otherwise respectable companies in what is essentially a trade in poisons. I was led to conclude that these dangerous drugs were not being smuggled into Ghana. They were being imported and distributed in plain sight.
What followed after the documentary’s release was nothing short of bizarre. The main Ghanaian pharmaceutical regulator, the FDA, appeared to confirm that the kingpin exporter of these opioids, Aveo, and its affiliates, especially Westfin, were registered business partners of Samospharma, the company cited in the documentary for importing and retailing some of the drugs through outlets bearing the brand of its award-winning e-pharma platform, DrugNet.
Samospharma exploded with fury, threatened to sue the BBC, and described the FDA’s registration records and public statement as bogus. It demanded a public retraction and an apology.
Detour (you can skip this section): Katanomics & Political Dysphonia
Those of us in the public advocacy space in Ghana have become used to a phenomenon whereby every issue, no matter how sensitive or important, is considered, “debatable”. After some dramatic finger-pointing, shouting matches, kangaroo-dancing, and all-round cacophony in the media, the “debate” dies down and no one is none the wiser about what exactly was learnt or done.
I have found that this problem is particularly acute in our policy contexts due to the gulf between political accountability and policy accountability (a phenomenon I have termed, “katanomics“). A vibrant democratic culture may guarantee a higher level of generic political accountability, especially through the ballot box, but it does not necessarily lead to policy accountability.
Policy accountability requires the “national audience for policy” to constitute a critical mass capable of shifting the political pendulum. In Ghana, this is not the case. Thus, democracy-induced vibrant media discussions actually serve to distract, obscure, cloud, and confuse. It leads to a “voice disorder”, political dysphonia. The citizenry have a lot of voice, but it does not lead to meaningful policy accountability.
Political dysphonia explains the paradox whereby highly democratic countries in Africa that also suffer a degree of katanomics tend to have weaker policy accountability, by which I mean government officials tend to get away with policy underperformance.
Performativity vs Performance
Because the critical national audience for policy in Ghana is rather small and weak, when an issue such as opioids pouring into the country through formal channels come up, relevant public officials only need to set up some “performances” to “close” the issue. It is not their performance in addressing the policy defect, gap, or problem that matters; it is their “performative” ability to declare the issue resolved through appropriate spectacle.
In the specific case of the opioids mess, the Health Minister did not miss the opportunity to display. A bonfire was set up and some consignment of opioids apparently being trans-shipped to Niger were seized and conflagrated. This week, the security services upped the burning ante. Cameras, light, action!
Weeks later, no information has been forthcoming as to how exactly products unregistered for sale in Ghana, and some outrightly banned around the world, were allowed to come through legal channels and sold in the open. No one has been held accountable along the chain of importation, clearance, surveillance, distribution, or sale. In fact, everything has been done to avoid public explanations of the exact causal links and process sequences involved in the breaches so obvious and manifest on the record.
What about Civil Society?
Granted that the Civil Society movement in Ghana, sections of which constitute the core national audiences for various important policies in the country, is small and weak. Still, what have we been doing within our limited resources?
Quite a bit actually. We have continued to gather intel and data across multiple government agencies, international media partners, and trade networks. In the last two months, we have built various analytical algorithms, drawing on the growing strengths of AI platforms to narrow down on the most essential aspects of the problem.
The findings are overwhelming
Let me first off say that I was shocked about what we have uncovered so far. The problem is deep, broad, and totally perplexing.
What we have said already is that one company seemed to have become a node in the trafficking network. The company however insists that its brand has been criminally impersonated. The regulatory and security services appear totally incapable of unravelling the mystery.
So, we employed our algorithms to construct an analytical web of ego networks to help us dig further into the mystery.
Key players in the ecosystem on which individual ego-based analysis was performed
In this brief essay, we will outline some of our findings to date and use the opportunity to suggest that the ongoing controversies about narcotics trafficking in Ghana exhibit similar characteristics. We do not have confidence in the ability of the regulatory and security authorities to be transparent and candid about the issues.
The recent circus around purported intelligence tips to the effect that a major global medical ambulance operator is smuggling cocaine into Ghana reeks of the same “performative”, katanomic, and distractive methods used to undermine genuine accountability. More citizens would have to get involved in collaborative investigations for the situation to see any improvement.
Now, for the results
The first key insight from our analysis is that beyond the companies mentioned in the documentary, several other individuals and corporate entities surface when market intel is analysed. The chart below represents one slice of data for a limited horizon. Note the suggestion of over 200 million units of opioids entering the country over what is a limited time horizon!
2. One actor that intrigued us is the entity associated with one Dr. Bandoh who has been reported as a major supporter of the University for Health & Allied Sciences’ School of Pharmacy. Our intrigue stems from the sophisticated e-commerce capabilities of the entity, and the rather interesting sale of prescription-only 100mg Tramadol products online.
Despite the FDA’s strong insistence that it has not licensed tapentadol, one of the two main ingredients in the incredibly dangerous and globally banned tafrodol product, for use in Ghana, there were e-commerce portals stocking the product early this year. Recent online searches, however, produce “out-of-stock” responses.
3. Linked to the e-commerce point above, we noticed also that some companies purportedly in the software industry are somehow mentioned as importers of opioids from the company at the center of the BBC documentary, Aveo, in the trade-intel databases.
4. Aveo’s introduction of Westfin to create an arms-length distribution network saw a sudden boom in shipments in early 2023.
5. The spike in the above graph does not necessarily imply “peaking”, though. The seasonality in shipments rather corresponds to the market’s ability absorb an ever expanding quantity of the illegal drugs since the pandemic. It would appear that levelling-off periods shrank. Below is a chart for Timaking, one of the new opioids supplanting tramadol on the market.
6. After Westfin’s entry, we also see an interesting spike in the activity of individuals in the importation business. Since Ghanaian law grants importation permits to only companies, the involvement of individuals in the trade is totally shocking and baffling.
7. For many of the consignments flagged in recent investigations that consignees have disowned and alleged impersonation, we found that source countries were set to South Africa and Egypt even though the products originated in India. Furthermore, our investigations established that the subsidiary details provided for the mother companies in India in these African countries (Egypt and South Africa) do not check out.
8. In effect, the current system is so porous to the extent where even consignment origination cannot be accurately established.
9. We corroborated the claims made in the BBC documentary that Ghana has become such a soft touch for traffickers that Nigerian importers of the banned opioids are openly using Ghanaian ports to bring in the products and then transport across the border. We name two such companies below.
10. We further confirmed that the banned and other dangerous opioids are cleared from the port by fully registered and authorised clearing agents who openly sign for them and pay all the necessary fees and charges. Everything is done in plain sight. Any impersonation therefore must either be officially sanctioned or done with the connivance of national security actors overriding the standard checks by FDA and customs officials.
11. For example, in the dramatic standoff between Samospharma and the FDA, the issue of the right manufacturer of prolatan eye-drops featured strongly. Even though Samospharma insists on having registered Sudarshan as the manufacturer and exporter, the FDA’s records suggest the involvement of Aveo, the company in the eye of the BBC investigative storm. The official clearance trail at the entry port shows that Duncan International Ghana Limited cleared consignments originating from Aveo purportedly on Samospharma’s behalf (sample bills of export: 41023472254 & 41023472239). This is a long-established port operator with a footprint dating back to the 1990s. In other instances, Hans Shipping Services Limited is the operator involved (sample bill of export: 40823359065). Hans is likewise a very well established service provider in the industry whose customers include even some corporate household names. Our ego network analysis shows a set of patterns around e-commerce/online-retail portals, established clearing service providers, legitimate pharmaceutical companies, and international/regional logistics companies all seemingly working together in above-board transactions that somehow appear to result in hundreds of millions of dangerous opioid pills entering Ghana. The inability of the security and regulatory services to impugn these open and transparent transactions and actors lend credence to the allegations that have been made that powerful players are using legal fronts to mask some really nation-wrecking activities.
If purely open and transparent transactions in a highly regulated industry like pharmaceuticals can nonetheless mask such sinister dealings, then what hope can Ghana have that truly clandestine criminal activity like cocaine trafficking can be unraveled to expose the players behind? Clearly, the “system” is much too compromised for any such hopes to be entertained.
For now, Ghanaians may have to rest content with wild and entertaining claims of international medical ambulances sneaking cocaine into the country in their cockpits.

Speaking at the launch, Prophet Atarah said, God has been good throughout last year, and 2025 has started on a positive note.
Against this backdrop, he wants to bring believers together and, in unity, praise God.
He said, like what happened last year, a lot of miracles will take place.
In a related development, Prophet Atarah also launched a new studio for rehearsals and live recordings.
This, he said, is not limited to him, but open to every musician across all genres.
The Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has disclosed that the government has intensified its fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, by tracing the owners of excavators seized during recent operations.
According to him, the chassis numbers of the confiscated machines have been secured and are currently being investigated to uncover the identities of individuals behind the environmentally destructive activities.
“We’re using these chassis numbers to contact-trace the ‘big people’ who own the heavy-duty equipment used for galamsey,” Dr Boamah stated.
The ongoing investigations, according to him, seeks to answer critical questions, including who imported and purchased the excavators and for what purpose.
In a Facebook post, Dr Boamah emphasised that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to dismantle the networks that fuel illegal mining, which he described as “an environmental sin against humanity and God.”
Dr Omane Boamah, however, commended the Ghana Police Service for its role in the ongoing efforts and called for sustained collaboration among all state institutions.
He reiterated the government’s comprehensive approach, targeting not just the miners on the ground but also the financiers and systems that facilitate galamsey operations.
Interest rates on treasury bills have declined to 15.4% in the government’s most recent auction on April 21, 2025.
Demand for short-term instruments has surged recently, with the government consistently rejecting bids.
In this week’s auction, the government received bids totalling GH¢6,444 billion but accepted only GH¢4.630 billion away from its target of GH¢6.607 billion. A total of GH¢1.814 billion in bids was also rejected.
According to auction results released by the Bank of Ghana, the 91-day bills saw the most subscriptions.
However, while the 364-day bill received bids totalling GH¢481.09 billion, only GH¢324.56 billion was accepted.
The 91-day bill attracted bids amounting to GH¢5.058 billion, of which GH¢3.674 billion was accepted.
Additionally, the 182-day bill saw tenders worth GH¢905.07 million, with GH¢630.66 million accepted.
Meanwhile, interest rates have continued to decline over the past few weeks as the 91-day bill now stands at 15.4%.
The 182-day bill stands at 16.18%, as the 364-day bill stands at 18.62%.
The government plans to borrow GH¢6.145 billion in its next treasury bill auction on April 25, 2025.
The recent surge in demand for short-term instruments signals strong investor confidence. The government’s decision to reject excess bids suggests either a cautious borrowing approach or an effort to avoid high interest rates.
Treasury bills remain the government’s primary source of borrowing as it seeks to regain access to the international capital market.

Asante Kotoko have reportedly parted ways with head coach, Prosper Ogum Narteh, following a management decision.
According to Ghana Sports Page, the Interim Management Committee (IMC) made the decision after the club’s 2-0 loss to Nations FC on Sunday, April 20, 2025.
Pending an official announcement from the club, the manager will exit the club two seasons after returning for a second spell with the Reds.
Kotoko, who were in pole position in the title race, have dropped to fourth on the table after managing only two wins in their last nine games.
They have drawn five and lost two in the process, with the two defeats coming consecutively.
They lost 3-0 to struggling Accra Lions before losing 2-0 to title contenders Nations FC.
The sudden collapse appears to have influenced the IMC’s decision, as their aim of winning the league title looks to be slipping through their hands.
Asante Kotoko are on 47 points and now trail league leaders, Bibiani Gold Stars, by six points with six games remaining.
Despite the recent lack of consistent victories, they are still in contention for a double as they are in the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup.

Popular Nigerian media personality Frank Edoho has shared his opinion on a long-debated topic, whether whether women truly appreciate kind men.
Speaking during a recent episode of TVC’s talk show The Black Table, Edoho claimed that many women are more attracted to “bad boys” than to consistently kind men.
He made the statement while reflecting on an article he had read online. “There was an article I saw on a blog that intrigued me. The topic was, ‘What is that red flag that you admire in the opposite sex?’” he recounted.

Edoho highlighted some of the responses he found particularly surprising. “There was one I saw that says, ‘I like it when my man tells me, ‘I don’t want to repeat myself again.’ She said it turns her on,” he shared. “Others said that they like it when their man wax them, not extremely but shows power—it turns them on.”
He concluded by noting, “There are some strange things going on in the minds of these women that you are trying to be nice to. I am not saying all of them are like that but majority of women don’t like nice guys. They want bad guys that are nice to them sometimes.”
Citi FM and Channel One TV have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting vulnerable children with the donation of GHC50,000 and a range of essential supplies to the Baptist School Complex and Orphanage (BASCO) in Trotor, near Suhum in the Eastern Region.
The gesture forms part of the media house’s annual Easter Orphan Project, which aims to bring hope and support to orphans and underprivileged children across Ghana.
Staff from both stations visited the facility to present the donation and spend time interacting with the children and their caretakers.

The Ghana Police Service has announced the interception of more than 130 cartons of ammunition being trafficked out of the country through the Volta Region.
In a statement issued by its Public Affairs Unit for the Volta Region, the police said that the cartons of ammunition were intercepted at Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa in a public transport vehicle bound for Benin.
It stated that its officers found 60 cartons of AAA cartridges and 72 cartons of BB cartridges in the vehicle, which had passengers on board.
“On 18th April 2025 at 0330 hours, police personnel on duty at the Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa Police Barrier intercepted an Accra–Benin-bound Hyundai bus with registration number GR 8246-Q, with passengers on board. A routine search conducted in the vehicle uncovered 60 cartons of AAA cartridges (15,000 pieces of AAA) and 72 cartons of BB cartridges (18,000 pieces of BB), loaded in sacks and concealed under some luggage,” part of the statement read.
The police indicated that two suspects were arrested during the interception, but they have denied knowledge of the presence of the ammunition in the vehicle.
It said that initial investigations show that it was the co-driver of the vehicle who loaded the ammunition onto the truck.
“The driver of the vehicle, Abasou Fousseni, aged 45 years, and his co-driver, Salisu Jalilu, aged 38 years, were arrested for interrogation, but both denied knowledge of the illicit goods. However, police gathered information indicating that it was the co-driver who loaded the illicit goods into the vehicle,” it said.
The police added, “The driver of the vehicle was granted police enquiry bail to enable him to convey the passengers to their destination, while the co-driver was detained to assist with the investigation. He will be arraigned before the court on Tuesday, 22nd April 2025.”

Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) will hold a crucial emergency meeting on Monday afternoon to make a final decision regarding the future of the club’s technical team following a series of disappointing results in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign.
The club’s title hopes have all but faded after suffering two consecutive losses— a 3-0 defeat to Accra Lions in a thrilling encounter and a 2-0 loss to Nations FC in Abrankese last weekend. These setbacks have extended the team’s winless streak to four games, leaving their league prospects in jeopardy.

The Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Michael Harry Yamson, has advised Ghanaians, particularly the youth, not to view betting as a source of income, insisting it is meant purely for leisure.
His caution follows public outcries following the scrapping of taxes on betting winnings — a move that Civil Society Organizations and religious groups warn could fuel gambling, particularly among young people.
Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Yamson defended the government’s position, stating that the removal of the tax is aimed at supporting the growth of the betting industry, not encouraging irresponsible behaviour.
“The Betting Tax was seen as frustrating an industry, and we have removed it to drive that industry and to drive the volume of economic activity in that sector.
“That said, the idea is not to increase irresponsible behavior. What we firmly believe is that betting is a leisure activity; betting is not meant to be a livelihood. And so we subscribe to the removal of the Betting Tax, at the same time, we are careful to make it clear that betting is a leisure activity — it is not meant to be something that becomes the livelihood of anybody,” he stated.
Yamson also called on betting companies to strictly enforce age restrictions, warning that access by minors remains a serious concern.
He added that the government will partner with stakeholders in the tech sector to introduce digital safeguards, including the use of the Ghana Card, to block underage users from betting online.
The debate around betting taxes continues to stir national attention, with critics arguing that the policy reversal could worsen addiction and social problems among the youth.

Black Satellites held their first training sessions in Cairo on Sunday, April 20, 2025, as preparations intensify for the upcoming U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
The team, led by head coach Desmond Ofei, trained twice at the Jewel Plaza Sports facility, located within walking distance of their hotel at the Jewel Plaza Complex.
The sessions were light but tactical, designed to ease the players into a demanding training programme following their arrival from Accra on Saturday.
All sixteen players who travelled with the initial group took part in the training. Six more players are expected to join them in the coming days to complete the squad for the tournament.
The Black Satellites are scheduled to step up their preparations with more intense sessions as the tournament draws closer.
The 13-nation competition begins on April 27 and ends on May 18, with Ghana placed in Group C alongside DR Congo, defending champions Senegal, and the Central African Republic.
Ghana will open their campaign on May 2 against DR Congo. The top four teams from the tournament will qualify for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

According to him, current happenings in the party has revealed a trend that suggests that different factions are fighting for the control of the party
“…I really want to wish the NPP well. But it is not our wishes that will transform their party,” Pratt said on Pan African TV on April 19, 2025, while contributing to the discussions on rebuilding the NPP after their 2024 Election defeat.
He indicated that his interactions with some notable members of the party have revealed that too many factions are fighting for supremacy.
He stated that there appears to be a group led by Sarah Adwoa Safo which has sworn that they would do everything possible to ensure that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia becomes the next leader of the NPP.
He added that there is also another group that aligns with former Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko.
He also mentioned another group which is currently pushing for a breakaway from the party because they believe the current leadership has swayed from the core values of the party.
Pratt further noted that there were even more factions in the party who have either one concern or another.
He subsequently, stated that considering the current state of the party, an experienced member who is a unifier is direly needed to bring all factions together to initiate a rebuilding process.
He cautioned that if the party does not urgently take steps to resolve their differences and mobilise, they risk losing their members to a new appendage of the party as suggested by Dr Amoako Baah in multiple media reports.
“The party itself has a responsibility to respect its core values. The party itself has the responsibility to put knowledgeable and responsible people in positions of leadership. The party has the responsibility to understand the Ghanaian condition.
“If you don’t do that; well, it is possible that a party can spring up to give the NDC the challenge it needs. It is also possible that the party will go into extinction. If you don’t do that so many possibilities await you in future,” he warned.
As part of the annual Easter Orphan Project, Citi FM and Channel One TV have donated GH¢25,000 and assorted items to the Chosen Rehabilitation Centre in Accra.
The project, which seeks to promote the spirit of giving, has over the years brought joy to the less privileged during the Easter festivities.
Speaking on behalf of management during the presentation, Head of Events and Partnerships at Citi FM and Channel One TV, Frema Adunyame, highlighted the vital role their audience played in making this year’s initiative possible.
“The essence of Easter—Christ coming to die for us and God giving us his son—that is what we believe. As Christians and Muslims, we have to follow this gesture. So our mission here is to further propagate the giving spirit of God. We do this every year during Easter Mondays, where we visit orphanages to give them the little that we have been able to put together through the donations of our listeners and our viewers.
“This year we decided to add Chosen Rehab and another rehab centre because we believe that the management here are doing so much that we need to support them,” she stated.
Founder of the Chosen Rehabilitation Centre, Apostle Daniel Cobby Washington, expressed gratitude for the donation, stressing its importance in furthering the centre’s mission.
In a similar gesture, the management of Citi FM and Channel One TV also donated GH¢25,000, along with cartons of milk, bags of rice, and used clothing to Iris Place, another rehabilitation centre in Accra.
During the presentation, Managing Director of Citi FM and Channel One TV, Samuel Atta Mensah, praised the efforts of the staff at Iris Place for their commitment to helping individuals rebuild their lives.
“It is Easter and families are gathering, people are travelling, but the thought of having some people being disabled in their movement because of their condition is coming back at us. For this reason, we raise money from our listeners and viewers who donate religiously both in financially and in substance. So, this year we have come to this place because of the great work you do in reforming people,” he stated.
Manager of Iris Place, Allan Mends, expressed heartfelt appreciation, noting how much the support means to their work.
“On behalf of the staff and management of Iris Place, I want to express our sincere gratitude for this overwhelming show of support and love. Recovery is expensive so we appreciate your presence for choosing to make this wonderful donation.
“It will go a long way to help us in our operations. Addiction is a disease and not a moral issue so we feel we are not alone with this wonderful donation you have brought to us,” he added.
The top floor of a two-storey hostel housing over 150 students of the Kwadaso SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College has been destroyed following a fire outbreak at Kwadaso, within the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
According to some of the students, the incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2025.
The swift intervention of officers from the Ghana National Fire Service salvaged the situation, thereby preventing the fire from spreading to the ground floor.
The fire destroyed all belongings of the students on the top floor, including mattresses, laptops, provisions, stationery, and other essential items.
No casualties were recorded, as management of the school indicated that some students had gone home for the Easter holidays.
So far, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined by officers from the Ghana National Fire Service, as investigations have begun.

The Ghanaian influencer and entrepreneur, Comfort Esime Adzigbli, popularly known as Ama Endorsed, passed on April 17, 2025, after battling a critical illness.
The 29-year-old passed on days after recently celebrating her birthday, during which she gifted herself a Range Rover.
Reacting to the death of the entrepreneur, Keche Joshua, in an interview with Zionfelix on April 21, 2025, noted that whoever is behind Ama Endorsed’s sudden demise would pay severally.
“All that I can say is that if there is someone behind her death, God would severally punish the person. That person would pay for such a crime.
To be honest, she was the one taking care of her family when their father died,” he said.
Keche Joshua also shared profound memories with the late entrepreneur.
He also debunked rumours circulating on social media where some netizens claimed Ama Endorsed died as a result of having an affair with numerous men.
“She fell sick after her birthday. Her sickness became on and off and I don’t know if someone poisoned her. She was hardworking but I want to make it emphatically clear that she was not sleeping around as speculated on social media.
“I sometimes seize her car because of how hardworking she was. I used to force her to rest. She fell sick three to four days after her birthday… We were all happy for her when she secured a project worth millions of cedis,” he added.

On April 18, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama joined the Good Friday Service at the Independence Square in Accra, organised by the United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches (UD-OLGC), formerly the Lighthouse Chapel International.
As thousands gathered for the solemn event, with the president participating in the service alongside Christians from Ghana and beyond, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, the leader of the church, offered four prayers for the president.
He praised Mahama’s return to leadership, describing it as significant and purposeful.
The bishop further referred to the prayers as special gifts for the president.

The Gift of Moses – Leadership and Deliverance
Using Hosea 12:13 as a reference, the man of God explained that Moses led the Israelites out of captivity in Pharaoh’s domain.
He then prayed that the president would, likewise, lead Ghana out of years of underdevelopment into prosperity.
“Moses was the Head of State of Israel at the time, and God used him to bring the Israelites from Egypt and used him to preserve the nation, Israel. So, Your Excellency, we are praying that God will give you this gift so that you can take the nation out of difficulties, captivity, stress, and confusion we have found ourselves in after 68 years of independence,” he said.
The Gift of Solomon – Memorable and Outstanding
The second gift the prophet spoke of was the gift of Solomon, symbolising wisdom and understanding.
It also represents being memorable and outstanding.
To support his prayer, the preacher referenced 1 Kings 3:12, which highlights a heart filled with wisdom.
He said, “The gift of Solomon is the gift to be outstanding and memorable. It’s a gift to have a wise and understanding heart so that there’d be none like you before and after you. There is a grace to be memorable, and I believe God that President Mahama is going to receive the gift of Solomon to be a memorable president.”
The Gift of the Messiah – Judgment and Justice
The other gift prayer offered for the president was the gift of the Messiah.
According to Dag Heward-Mills, this gift represents judgment and justice.
He urged the president to make wise decisions and govern with fairness, referencing Isaiah 9:6 as a guiding scripture.
“So, His Excellency, we’re going to pray that that gift that was on the Messiah, which is judgment and justice, will come upon you. Judgment means good decisions, and justice means fairness for everyone. I pray that God will give you this gift of the Messiah,” Dag Heward-Mills stated.
The Gift of David – Living a longer life
The final gift prayer for President Mahama was for a long-life and the blessing of growing old.
Referencing 1 Chronicles 29:28, the man of God urged the congregation to pray that the president would enjoy good health, riches, and honour, just as David did.
“So, let’s pray that the Lord will bless our president to be an old man in Ghana that when his days are finished, he will be full of three things: full of years and age, riches to be a prosperous man, and full of honour. He’ll go out of Ghana as an honoured and honourable person,” the preacher man added.

A senior Vatican official called the Camerlengo, who is the administrator of the property and the revenues of the Holy See, is expected to confirm the Pope’s death.
He does this by calling the Pope’s baptismal name three times. The Camerlengo may tap the Pope’s forehead with silver three times as he mentions his name. If there is no response, the Pope is officially declared dead.
2. Breaking the Fisherman’s Ring
The second thing expected to take place is the breaking of the Pope’s ring, which is called the Fisherman’s Ring.
The Pope’s signet ring is made of gold, and it has a picture of the first Pope, St. Peter, fishing.
The ring serves as the official seal for documents of the Pope.
The ring of the dead Pope is taken to the College of Cardinals, where it is scratched or broken to ensure that it can never be used again.
The ring is destroyed to symbolise the end of the Pope’s papacy. It is also to prevent the forgery of documents.
3. Sealing of the Pope’s residence:
The third step is the sealing of the Pope’s residence in the Apostolic Palace, which is ordered by the Camerlengo.
The personal effects of the Pope are also kept in the locked residence.
The Pope’s office and study within the Vatican are also sealed. This is to prevent unauthorised access.
The documents of the deceased Pope are also secured.
Once a new Pope is elected, the seals to the apartment and offices are broken and prepared for the new pontiff.
4. Announcement and period of mourning
After the death of the Pope is confirmed by the Camerlengo, he relays the information to the Dean of the College of Cardinals, and the Vatican officially announces his death.
A nine-day mourning period, called Novemdiales, is declared.
5. Lying in state
The next step is the display of the Pope’s body in St Peter’s Basilica for public viewing.
The body may lie in state for at least three days.
6. The Pope’s burial Mass
The next thing expected to happen is the funeral, which is typically held in St Peter’s Square within four to six days of his death.

Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for taking bold steps in the agricultural sector just 100 days into his administration.
Speaking on Hot Issues on TV3 on Sunday, April 20, 2025, Gbande said the government’s efforts were building a solid foundation to feed the country and transform agriculture into a key economic driver.
The Government, in collaboration with the private sector, is set to establish three state-of-the-art garment factories, each with the capacity to provide 3,000 jobs per shift, creating a total of 27,000 jobs under the 24-hour Economy Policy.
Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, disclosed this at the Second Edition of the Kwahu Business Forum at Mpraeso in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region.
The Trade Minister said this formed part of President John Dramani Mahama’s rapid industrialisation for job initiative, and the Ministry was promoting strategic value addition to revive deformed industries and scale up production for both domestic and international markets.
“We are also set to launch the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Development Policy, offering robust incentives to encourage local production of essential medicines,” she said, inviting pharmaceutical stakeholders to seize the opportunity and scale up operations for local and export markets.
The two-day Forum, which was opened by President John Dramani Mahama was on the theme: “The Future of Business: The Role of the Financial Sector”.
The Forum is a major initiative of the Government to foster entrepreneurship and support the growth of Ghana’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Mrs Ofosu-Adjare said the Ministry was currently finalising a component manufacturing policy to support the automotive sector with a special call to the nation’s industry power dealers at Abossey-Okai, Kokompe and Suame Magazine, to consider investment in vehicle component manufacturing.
The Minister reiterated the Government’s firm commitment towards resetting the country’s development agenda with a focus on creating an enabling environment that was responsive to private sector needs and capable of driving investment in strategic sectors.
She said the theme for this year’s Business Forum stressed the importance of aligning the nation’s financial systems with national development priorities to support entrepreneurship, industrialisation and inclusive economic growth.
She said at the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, they were spearheading the transformation through the Business Regulatory Reform Programme, a cross-cutting initiative that coordinates reforms across 50 institutions, including Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), private sector associations and professional bodies.
Other key institutions were the Office of Registrar of Companies, the Ghana Revenue Authority, the Lands Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Ghana National Fire Service, the Judicial Service and the Bank of Ghana, all of which were at the forefront of this effort.
“Our achievements so far include the establishment of a centralised electronic registry of business laws and an online public consultation portal on business regulations,” Mrs Ofosu-Adjare stated.
She said this year, a top priority was the passage of the Business Regulatory Reform Commission Bill, which would institutionalise these reforms, mediate public-private sector concerns and enforce regulatory impact assessments.
She said that the national development blueprint places great emphasis on building strong partnerships across three core levels: government-to-government, government-to-business, and business-to-business.
She said in “today’s rapidly evolving global trade landscape, Ghana is taking bold steps to position itself strategically for increased market access and competitiveness,” and their key initiatives focused on export development, trade facilitation and the provision of financial and technical support to businesses.
She said their flagship Accelerated Export Development Programme was designed to empower Ghanaian exporters to penetrate regional and international markets, including ECOWAS, the EU and UK, focusing on high-potential sectors such as garment, processed food and pharmaceuticals.
Together with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority and the National Africa Continental Free Trade Area( AfCFTA) Coordination Office, the Ministry was embarking on targeted export expeditions to deepen trade relationships and improve market access.
Mrs Ofosu-Adjare announced that, under a special initiative by the President, she would be leading a high-powered private sector delegation to China to pursue targeted Business-to-business (B2B) engagement that promises to unlock significant economic opportunities between their countries.
The Government was also working closely with the Ministry of Finance to implement sustainable solutions that would ease constraints on the business community, especially in customs operations, rules of origin certification and compliance with international trade protocols and AfCFTA, she said.
Again, the Government was implementing the Feed the Industry programme, which promoted contract commercial farming of grains, oils, seeds and meat, ensuring reliable supply chain for agro-industrial processing and thus they were working closely with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Minister said.
Mrs Ofosu-Adjare explained that a key initiative under this programme was the development of the Afram Plains Agro-Industrial Zone with a focus on cassava, maize and soya bean value chain.
“We appeal to our revered traditional leaders to support this effort through land availability and encourage the business community to invest in agro-processing,” Mrs Ofosu-Adjare stated.
Additionally, they were supporting agro-processing classes in sectors such as food, beverages, cassava derivatives and cosmetics with a strong focus on women-led businesses by providing training, equipment and market access.
The Minister said in line with their inclusive development goals, they were rolling out targeted initiatives to empower women and youth through access to funding, skills training and access to markets.

Accra, April 21, GNA-The Network for Women’s Rights in Ghana (NETRIGHT) has condemned Mr. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (KMA) for his decision to flog traders, who flout the ban on trading on the pavements of the city.
The Network said his decision was a gross violation on human rights, an infringement on the rights to human dignity, and a disregard for the rule of law.
A statement issued in Accra by Akosua K. Darkwah (PhD), NETRIGHT Convenor and copied to the Ghana News Agency said Ghana was a democratic country, governed by the 1992 Constitution and Chapter 5 of the Constitution clearly spelt out the human rights of every citizen of Ghana.
It said Section 15 (2a) stated categorically that no person whether arrested, restricted, detained or not shall be subject to torture, cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
The statement said his remarks were unbefitting of a public office holder and needed to be condemned in no uncertain terms.
It said as a women’s rights organisation, “we are mindful of the impact of such abuse on families and the society at large and the fact that in these situations, women, a third of who work as traders in Ghana, will bear the brunt of the abuse,” it said.
It said they were deeply concerned that such actions by the KMA would curtail the democratic rights of the traders and create conditions for civil unrest in the country.
“We condemn in unequivocal terms the remarks by the MCE and express our displeasure with his failure to retract and apologise but rather restating on an Accra-based FM station that he was standing by his decision to flog traders who defy the ban,” it added.
It said his statement showed that he was not fit to hold public office.
The statement, therefore called on President John Dramani Mahama, to remove Mr. Boadi as the MCE for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
It also called on all Ghanaians to call for his removal from office as his statement was unacceptable.

The only clue about how the election proceeds is the smoke that emerges twice a day from burning the cardinals’ ballot papers. Black signals failure. The traditional white smoke means the new Pope has been chosen.
After the white smoke goes up, the new Pope normally appears within an hour on the balcony overlooking St Peter’s Square.
The senior cardinal participating in the conclave will announce the decision with the words ‘Habemus Papam’ – Latin for ‘we have a Pope’.
He will then introduce the new Pope by his chosen papal name, which may or may not be his original given name.
For example, Pope Francis was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, but he chose a different name for his papacy in honour of St Francis of Assisi.
In a candid critique of Gold Fields’ operations in Ghana, the Deputy CEO of the Minerals Commission has taken a bold stance against what he describes as the mining company’s failure to reinvest locally, despite raking in massive profits from its Ghanaian operations.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition, Emmanuel Kwamena Anyimah, addressed Gold Fields’ recent exit from the Damang mine, using the moment to raise deeper concerns about how profits from the sector are being managed.
“Last year, the Tarkwa and Damang mines made over $600 million in profit. How much of that stayed in the country? Your guess is as good as mine,” he remarked, underscoring the disconnect between profit-making and national development.
The frustration didn’t end there. He went on to question the mining giant’s reinvestment decisions, particularly its preference for foreign expansion over local development.
“Instead of using the profit to develop the Damang mine, they were rather busy buying mines elsewhere, like Osisko in Canada. They also bought another mine in Chile,” he pointed out.
To him, it’s clear where the funds originated: “They can’t tell me it’s not profit from Ghana. It’s difficult to move money out of Australia. But from Ghana, they had free rein to move money around. And I’m saying, we can’t continue on that path.”

Ghanaian actor Bernard Aduse Poku has opened up about how perseverance shaped his journey in the movie industry and ultimately paved the way for his success.
Sharing his story during an interview on on April 14, 2025, Bernard revealed that his very first movie role never made it to the final cut.
He recalled that after securing his debut role — where he was asked to act out a simple scene cleaning his teeth with a toothpick after a meal at a restaurant — his excitement was short-lived when the movie premiered without his part included.
“It all happened by chance. Right after Senior High School, I had a gap before university, and during that time, around 1999, a friend who was already involved in filmmaking introduced me to the industry,” Bernard recounted.
He added, “They gave me a minor scene to play — I was supposed to act like someone who had just eaten and was using a toothpick to clean his teeth. I did it exactly as directed, but when the movie was finally released, my scene was nowhere to be found. Still, I didn’t give up because I genuinely admired the craft and wanted to be part of it.”
Bernard also credited renowned media personality Andy Dosty for playing a significant role in promoting — the film that eventually earned him widespread recognition.

Tributes from around the globe have poured in following the death of Pope Francis, the 88-year-old leader of the Roman Catholic Church, who passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, just a day after celebrating Easter Mass at St. Peter’s Square in Rome.
The Vatican confirmed the Pope’s passing after a prolonged struggle with illness, noting that although he had been discharged from the hospital recently and had resumed his papal duties, his death came suddenly, leaving millions of Catholics and world leaders shocked and mourning.
Many global leaders took to social media platforms, including Facebook and X, to express their condolences and pay homage to a man widely seen as a spiritual reformer and a beacon of humility, compassion, and peace.
His Royal Majesty King Charles in a tribute stated: My wife and I were most deeply saddened to learn of the death of Pope Francis. Our heavy hearts have been somewhat eased, however, to know that His Holiness was able to share an Easter Greeting with the church and the world he served with such devotion throughout his life and ministry.”
Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, General Secretary of the Commonwealth, shared her sorrow in a Facebook post:
“Deeply saddened by the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. His advocacy for the poor, peace and tolerance touched the lives of people across the Commonwealth and the world. May he rest in peace.”
French President Emmanuel Macron called the late pontiff “a man of humility,” recognizing Francis’s personal simplicity and his devotion to the marginalized.
Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof remembered him as “a man of the people in every way,” reflecting the Pope’s lifelong commitment to bringing the Church closer to ordinary people.

The delegation met with a wide range of stakeholders
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts and Ghana Tourism Authority has concluded a successful trade and investment mission to the United States, with official visits to Memphis, Tennessee, Detroit Michigan and Columbus, Ohio aimed at strengthening economic ties, forging strategic partnerships, showcasing tourism and the Black Star Experience.
The delegation was led by the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Yussif Jajah, and included Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Ben Anane-Nsiah, Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, and Ms. Annabelle McKenzie, Director of the International Affairs Secretariat of the Ghana Tourism Authority.
At the core of the mission was the goal of establishing and expanding trade and investment relationships across key U.S. cities. The delegation met with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, private sector leaders, business chambers, universities, and cultural organizations to position Ghana as a viable hub for international investment, tourism and trade across diverse sectors, including real estate, manufacturing, education, creative industries, and hospitality.
In Memphis, the delegation was hosted by the Mayor’s Office in partnership with GUBA (Grow, Unite, Build Africa). The visit built on the momentum from the 2022 Memphis in May International Festival, when Ghana was the honored country and a sister-city agreement was signed.
Discussions focused on expanding this partnership, particularly in the areas of trade, tourism promotion, and education. Notably, the University of Memphis, which enrolls over 200 Ghanaian students, was highlighted as a key partner in fostering academic and cultural exchange.
In Detroit, the delegation engaged with both diaspora and non-diaspora stakeholders around investment collaboration. City and business leaders expressed strong interest in working with Ghana on initiatives in real estate development, entertainment and culture.
Plans are underway to organize a Ghana Cultural Fair in Detroit to celebrate Ghana’s heritage while promoting economic opportunities. In Columbus, Ohio, where Ghana remains the only country with a sister-city relationship, the delegation was welcomed by the Mayor of Columbus.
The meetings focused on trade, with stakeholders emphasizing a shared commitment to expanding business and exchanges between Ghana and Columbus-based institutions and investors.
Ghana recognizes the vital role that the global African diaspora plays in national development and continues to champion reconnection efforts. The delegation engaged the diaspora “Ghana is committed to creating meaningful pathways for the diaspora to return, not just for visits, but to invest, to collaborate, and to contribute. Through the Black Star Experience, we invite our brothers and sisters across the globe to reconnect with their roots while becoming active participants in Ghana’s future.” The Black Star Experience serves as a unifying platform, welcoming global Africans and partners alike to engage with Ghana through heritage tourism, cultural exchange, and economic opportunity for both diaspora and non-diaspora stakeholders looking to connect with Ghana,” said Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto.
