Victory in the FA Cup would not only bring silverware to Kumasi but also secure Kotoko a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup, providing extra motivation ahead of the high-stakes clash.

Full Asante Kotoko Squad:

Defenders:

Forwards:

A win on Sunday could keep their double hopes alive and inject renewed momentum into their title chase.

Ahead of the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, Afrobeats artiste King Promise has emerged as the leading contender for the “Artiste of the Year” award, according to a poll conducted by GhanaWeb on X.

The poll, which garnered a total of 83 votes, showed King Promise leading with 51% of participants rooting for him to win the most coveted award on Ghana’s biggest music night.

The poll which was conducted in the early hours of May 10, 2025, placed King Promise ahead of fellow nominees King Paluta, Kweku Smoke and Black Sherif.

King Paluta secured 23% of the votes, Kweku Smoke followed with 14%,while Black Sherif got 12%.

Following a narrow miss at the 2024 edition of the awards, the “Paris” hitmaker has been on a deliberate campaign to trumpet his achievement in the music industry in the year under review.

His efforts have included stepping up media engagement, expanding his fanbase across Africa and Europe and even employing a PR person to amplify his achievements.

King Promise’s run in the year under review has been marked by a series of hit songs and sold-out concerts that have helped him secure a strong position within the Afrobeats scene.

The Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2025 is taking place today, May 10, 2025.

The event is held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Center.

Anyako Youth Association supports local health centre with vital equipment in Phase II of Development project

0

As part of its ongoing efforts to improve healthcare in the community, the Anyako Youth Association has donated a range of essential medical equipment to the Anyako Health Centre, marking Phase II of its commitment to strengthening local health delivery.

The items – presented during the 2025 Anyako Youth Summit – include a refrigerator, washing machine, infrared thermometer gun, blood pressure apparatus, glucometers with strips, and a carton of surgical gloves. These, according to Association President, Sergeant Unity Fiagbedzi, will help meet the facility’s immediate needs and improve service delivery.

He expressed deep appreciation to all donors and singled out contributors such as Mr. Samuel Nyadroh and Children, Madam Ruby Dzade, Madam Catherine Dzakpasu, Mr. Prudence Amegah, and Mr. Mawuli Dogbatse for their support.

However, he emphasized that the journey is not over. AYA has launched a self-help initiative to raise funds for a Hematology Analyzer (Full Blood Count Machine) – a crucial piece of equipment still needed.

Beyond healthcare, the Association is also focusing on other development areas including education, water, sanitation, and security. Educational interventions rolled out include the Anyako Basic Schools Quiz Competition, BECE Best Student Awards (Male & Female), Best Performing Students Awards from Basic 1 to JHS 3, and plans to launch a Best Teacher Award.

“We cannot do it alone. Our vision is collective,” said the AYA President. “We invite all hands on deck to build a stronger, healthier, and more prosperous Anyako.”

The items were formally handed over to the Health Centre by Togbi Aposa VI, Fia of Anyako-Lashibi, who commended the youth for their leadership in community development.

“The youth are the lifeline of every community,” Togbi Aposa VI noted. “Let’s rise beyond individual interests and unite for the development of Anyako.”

He was joined by National Secretary of the National Organisation of Anyako Konu Union (NOAKU), Mr. Bone Dzakpasu, who pledged the Union’s continued support and emphasized the need for unity.

Receiving the items, Physician Assistant in charge of the health centre, Madam Caroline Tomefa, expressed heartfelt thanks and made a passionate appeal for further assistance. She noted the urgent need for:

  • A 20-bed admission ward for male, female, and pediatric patients
  • A Hematology Analyzer to boost diagnostic capabilities
  • Renovation of staff accommodation, including her bungalow and the nurses’ quarters, which she described as unsafe and demoralising.

“We often have to refer patients to Sacred Heart Hospital at Weme due to limited space,” she said. “We need help to serve our people better.”

Win or lose, we don’t care – Lali X Lola

Ghanaian music duo, Lali X Lola Ghanaian music duo, Lali X Lola

Ghanaian music duo, Lali X Lola, have made it clear that winning an award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) is not their main focus.

Speaking on the red carpet in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie, the twin sisters nominated in the Best New Artiste category shared that for them, just being recognised is already a big win.

“Whether we win or not, we honestly don’t care. Even being acknowledged is a plus for us,” they said.

Lali X Lola, known for their consistent presence at major entertainment events across the country, also touched on why they make it a point to always show up.

According to them, it’s a deliberate move to stay relevant and build their brand.

“I mean, that’s the whole point, to be consistent, to show up. That’s our plan, that’s our strategy, and we stick to it,” they explained.

They also spoke about their recent decision to part ways with their signature red hair.

Addressing it, they revealed that the change was symbolic and tied to a message of unity in the industry.

“We released a statement about it because we wanted people to focus on the message. It was about not choosing between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy. We love them both, and we think the industry should stop pitting artists against each other,” they added.

The 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) is here again it’s indeed a vibrant display of fashion, culture, and star power, and as always, the red carpet was a runway of bold statements and stylistic flair.

While many celebrities strutted in high fashion ensembles, stilettos, and androgynous styles, rapper Okyeame kwame is taking it a notch higher. He graced the event dressed in full Egyptian Pharaoh regalia, richly infused with Ghanaian Kente.

When asked about the inspiration behind his royal ensemble, Okyeame Kwame  explained, “Why Cairo? Because, you know, there’s a new norm. Africa is rising. Africa is kicking against neo-colonialism. And our identity is rising… I decided to remind all of us that we come from royalty. Don’t be in love with it.”

The outfit, a seamless fusion of tradition and political commentary, took three days to complete.

His designer, whose name was not immediately mentioned during the red carpet interview, was praised by Okyeame Kwame for the artistry and craftsmanship. “We need to put the spotlight on the designer as well. And, you know, just give him a round of applause for what he’s done. Very beautiful,” he added.

On his expectation for the big stage, the Faithful crooner said:  “I’m really excited about performances. I want to also know who is going to become Artiste of the Year. And then, I want to win maybe one or two awards myself, just for myself,” he said.

Vida claimed that the ‘Jejereje’ hit maker will set a record tonight by winning the Artiste of the Year for the third consecutive time.

Interacting with Regina Van Helvert, host of the TGMA red carpet on the night of the event, Vida underscored the need for the music industry to recognize hard work and consistency by artistes and award them accordingly.

“We are poised for victory tonight…We are preaching the fact that we need to protect consistency and hard work in the game and that is the reason why it is okay to win and win and win again,” she said.

18 maternal deaths in 5 months, mostly at prayer camps in E/R

The Eastern Regional Focal Person for Maternal Health, Doris Darkoa Mantey, disclosed to the media that the Eastern Region recorded 18 maternal deaths between January and May 2025.

She highlighted that most of these fatalities occurred at prayer camps where expectant mothers opted to deliver.

Mr Adu Mantey expressed deep concern over the situation, emphasising the urgent need for targeted education to encourage pregnant women to prioritise hospital deliveries.

She stressed that men of God lack the requisite expertise in child delivery compared to midwives.

“Midwives undergo rigorous training to handle complications, which is why every pregnant woman should deliver at a hospital for their safety,” she underscored. Mantey made these remarks in Koforidua during the International Day of the Midwife celebration, themed “Midwives: Critical In Every Crisis”.

She further clarified that while health professionals prefer safe deliveries without surgical intervention, caesarean sections are sometimes necessary to save the lives of both mother and child.

“Women who express reluctance towards caesarean sections should understand that the ultimate goal is a safe delivery,” she stated.

Additionally, Mantey commended Ghanaian midwives for their dedication and admonished them to maintain professionalism, emphasising that their work is a calling.

Augustine Adu, National Public Relations Officer of the Midwives Society and guest of honour, highlighted the critical role midwives play in the health sector, advocating for respect and appropriate benefits.

He recalled the pivotal contributions of midwives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He urged Ghanaians to appreciate midwives’ massive contributions on this special day.

The celebration, led by the Eastern Regional Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association under Rev. Hayford Laryea, included the presentation of awards to outstanding midwives, encouraging them to continue delivering quality healthcare services.

EC not ready, misleading IGP on Ablekuma North

0

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of misleading the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, regarding the ongoing electoral dispute in the Ablekuma North constituency.

The party is demanding a re-run of parliamentary elections in 62 polling stations within the constituency, insisting that the results collated so far are not credible and must be addressed through a transparent process.

This follows recent calls by the IGP urging the EC to present a clear roadmap for concluding the long-delayed collation of results in the area. In response, the NDC claims the EC is not adequately prepared and is acting unlawfully by attempting to use scanned pink sheets instead of the original documents for collation.

Speaking on Channel One’s Newsroom with Umaru Sanda Amadu, on Saturday, May 10, Mahdi Gibril, Deputy Director of Elections for the NDC, stated that the party has repeatedly reached out to the EC for clarification but has received no response.

He added that the party met the EC on March 13, 2025, to raise concerns about the use of scanned documents.

He said follow-up letters were sent on April 18 and April 30, but the EC reportedly failed to respond.

“Up till date, we’re waiting for a response from the EC, they are not even responding to us. Because they know that what they’re doing is illegal. We met them on March 13, 2025. We told them we don’t believe in the documents they used, and if they can provide reasons why we should accept scanned documents.

He added, “On April 18, 2025, we wrote to EC again to remind them of the issue. They didn’t respond, and on April 30, we wrote to them again, but they didn’t respond. Until we heard that they told the police that they are ready to collate the results.

“The EC is misinforming the IGP, especially Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Bossman Asare, and Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations at EC.”

The NDC maintains that a re-run is the only acceptable solution in polling stations where the EC does not have original pink sheets.

“What are they going to use to collate the results? They don’t have pink sheets. We will only accept a re-run in polling stations where the EC doesn’t have pink sheets,” he said.

The Electoral Commission has yet to publicly respond to the NDC’s latest allegations.

Efforts to finalise the collation in January 2025 were disrupted after unauthenticated pink sheets surfaced and the collation centre was overrun, raising serious security concerns.

Ghana Rugby Football Union Join Hands with Football Fraternity in May 9 Memorial Walk to Honor Fallen Fans

0

This blog is managed by the content creator and not GhanaWeb, its affiliates, or employees. Advertising on this blog requires a minimum of GH₵50 a week. Contact the blog owner with any queries.

On Friday, May 9, 2025, the heart of Kumasi pulsed not with chants of rivalry or competition, but with solemn remembrance and unity. Thousands of Ghanaians from Accra, Kumasi, and beyond gathered for the 24th annual walk to honor the 126 football fans who lost their lives in the tragic Accra Sports Stadium disaster of 2001. The streets, usually filled with the bustling rhythm of everyday life, became a moving tribute to the departed.

What made this year’s remembrance especially powerful was the remarkable unity across sporting communities. Executives and national team players from the Ghana Rugby Football Union walked shoulder-to-shoulder with football fans, students from KNUST, the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the National Sports Authority, various keep fit clubs, and even the bereaved family of recently murdered football enthusiast “Pooley.” It was a striking moment of solidarity—a symbolic handshake between sports, grief, and national healing.

Herbert Mensah, former Asante Kotoko chairman and now President of Rugby Africa and member of the executive board of World Rugby, once again led the walk, just as he has done every year since that fateful day in 2001. Through the May 9 Foundation, he has ensured the memories of the fallen are never forgotten. The walk concluded with heartfelt donations of food items, products, and financial aid to families of victims—acts of compassion that echo the mission of the Foundation.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Mensah emphasized the significance of the event:

“We have done this for 24 years because of the relevance of the day and the respect we have for the departed souls. We will continue to observe it so long as God gives us life.”

This year’s observance carried a heavier burden, following the recent stabbing of “Pooley,” a devoted Kotoko supporter, during a league game in Nsoatre. It was a chilling reminder that while the 2001 disaster may be behind us, violence in sports remains a present threat. Mr. Mensah called on fans to cultivate greater tolerance, urging them to remember that “we are brothers and sisters off the field” and to channel the passion of sport into positive energy.

He further appealed to government and sports administrators to invest equitably in all sports, not just football. “The tragedy,” he said, “should inspire broader change—compassion, inclusion, and commitment to safety and development across all sporting disciplines.”

The participation of the Ghana Rugby Football Union underscored that spirit. As national team players and executives walked alongside football fans, they not only honored those who died but also made a powerful statement: true sportsmanship transcends the game. It unites, uplifts, and heals.

Supported by companies like Sunda International, Kivo Gari, and Interplast Ghana Ltd, this year’s remembrance walk was a testament to the resilience of Ghanaians—and a promise that the lives lost will never fade from memory.

May 9 is no longer just a date. It is a movement. A memorial. A message.

We remember. We walk. We unite.

Ben Abdallah confirmed as MCE for Asokore Mampong

0

President John Dramani Mahama’s nominee for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, Ben Abdallah Alhassan, has been overwhelmingly endorsed by Assembly Members.

During the confirmation process, Mr. Alhassan secured 17 ‘Yes’ votes and only one ‘No’ vote out of the 18 ballots cast by elected Assembly Members and government appointees.

The vote took place at an emergency meeting convened to address key administrative issues, including the long-standing vacancy in the position of Presiding Member, which had remained unfilled for over a year and saw a contentious election earlier in the day.

Mr. Alhassan’s nomination sparked mixed reactions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asawase Constituency.

While some party members opposed his appointment, others expressed strong support, citing his competence and leadership qualities.

He currently serves as the NDC’s Director of Research and Elections in the Asawase Constituency.

His confirmation presents him with the enormous responsibility of addressing key challenges in the municipality, including sanitation, infrastructure deficits, and widespread indiscipline.

Member of Parliament for Asawase, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, urged the newly confirmed Municipal Chief Executive to collaborate effectively with Assembly Members to accelerate development in the area.

“Let’s focus on getting our communities developed more than anything else,” he urged.

He also assured the MCE and the Assembly of his full support to ensure progress.

In response, Ben Abdallah Alhassan expressed his gratitude to President Mahama for the confidence reposed in him.

He pledged to work hand-in-hand with all stakeholders to drive the development agenda of the Asokore Mampong Municipality.

“It is my pledge and honour that I will act and work in the role of an MCE.”

Asantewaa, you conquered before Starting

0

Bebe (Afua Asantewaa Aduonum) as l fondly refer to you, to say you have demonstrated bravery in your two successive Guinness World Records (GWR) attempts is an understatement.

The recent results- GWR citing failure to adhere to the five minutes break as the reason for not handing you them certification notwithstanding, I still consider you as my heroine.

Indeed, embarking on such an audacious attempt speaks volumes.

I salute you, and always will, taking into account what we both as well as the team went through before during and after the attempt.

And to capture what I deduce from the verdict from GWR in the local palance- de3 ode nade3 de benkum na 3gye, literally meaning; the owner of an item decides which hand he or she uses to receive it.

That is not to undermine the verdict by GWR, but for a woman, and a mother of three for that matter to embark on such a herculean task deserves a pat on her shoulder.

Sincerely, the enormity of the attempt had a toll on me and has still not recovered from the sleepless nights.
I made sure, what she will eat, drink, wear as well bathing was done within the limited five minutes- imagine the time she spends moving from the box to the tent and back to the box again all in five minutes- it was a ‘Serious Reggae Business’ as Lucky Dube of blessed memory captured in one of his albums.

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi and Kennedy Agyepong (Kenpong) two of the many friends who followed the attempt keenly at a point advised that we stopped the attempt midway saying, “… Kofi a friend denied himself sleep for two days and he forgot where he parked his car at the airport from a trip. Your wife has done so well, don’t let her continue, I beg you. Whether the Guinness World Records guys rule in her favour or not, we consider her a winner already.”

STARTED TIRED

Coming from a background of events-Ghana Outstanding Women Awards (GOWA), Miss Kidi Ghana, Africa Outstanding Women Awards, and Global Outstanding Women Awards, we ensured that although it was a World record attempt, we invested heavily by way of organization.

We had countless meatings-in person and virtual ahead of the attempt-deciding on where exactly to carry it out after GWR had done an internal application for her after the first attempt
Venues like the Times Square in New York, Dubai among other places emerged.
Some of the meetings ended without solutions; leaving the entire team living on the urge coupled with limited time ahead of the attempt.
Indeed, that had a toll on the team and the main character (Asantewaa).

RECCE/ MEDIA TOUR

Again to make sure that the attempt is executed successfully after we decided to roll it out in Kumasi, the Accra-Kumasi stretch became a regular route. There were days we plied the road twice in a day, all to make sure everything was in place.

Even the issue of where exactly in Kumasi to host it was an issue-thankfully the Ashanti Region National Sports Authority (NSA) jumped in and offered the Heroe’s Park Annex.

We squeezed water from stone by using the limited time at our disposal ahead of the attempt to embark on media tours, and Kumasi Media platforms like Akoma FM, Sika FM, Kesben FM, Y-FM, Pure FM and other media organizations were of great help.

MEETING OTUMFOU

As tradition and courtesy demands, we decided to seek blessings and approval of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and officially announce the attempt to him and his council of elders.

But that did not happen a silver platter (Started tired). We faced a lot of impediment- l believe it happened on the blind side of the highly respected king.

Thankfully, Gladys Owiredu, Asantewaa’s manager succeeded in reaching out to an official at the Manhyia palace, who arranged for the meeting with the great Ashanti King.

And when we finally did meet with the Asantehene, it was worthwhile. He encouraged and adviced us.

SUPPORT

Event organizers will bear me witness that securing sponsorship lately is no joke,-we combed everywhere; moving from one office to the other.
Some like Nasco Electronics, Perla Mineral Water, Essential Cosmetics, Ike’s Cafe (Kumasi) among others, however, responded positively.

INGRATITUDE

My wife and family have come under intense social media attack after the first attempt which I personally don’t have a problem with probably because of my collected self.
Unfortunately, our critics saw nothing wrong with that until the infamous interview that the writer decided to highlight on the portion that stoked the public debate, reducing the former Vice President’s kind gesture to a common lozenges.

Ingratitude is foreign to my family’s nature, our presence at Dr Bawumia’s house after the first attempt to say thank you was enough evidence of how grateful we were.

The former Vice President reaching out to offer support, taking time off his busy schedule to show up at the venue was commendable and shows how proactive he was.

Unfortunately, my wife came under intse cyber bully and was tagged a word I don’t want to use. From my personal investigations, a lot of the comments was a calculated attempt to drug her name into the mud.

May be she didn’t communicate the way she should have on the said show. I want to use this platform to apologize profusely on her behalf.

Some of the attacks were people who enjoyed their sleep in the comfort of their homes only to wake up to see her still singing (without sleep).

THANK YOU GHANA

Indeed, Ghana has shown us massive support and love, and we would eternally be grateful for that.

Kumasi was amazing- Kwame Adinkra of Pure FM fame and his sound men, Tony (Akoma FM) the media (bloggers), traditional, medical, Ike’s Cafe and all who supported the second attempt in diverse ways (constructive criticism).

Mahama’s galamsey fight ‘abysmally poor’

0

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has praised President John Dramani Mahama for what it describes as a commendable performance during his first 120 days in office.

However, the union has also voiced concern about the government’s ineffective approach to tackling illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

Similar concerns have been echoed by residents of Kumasi, who have acknowledged the president’s efforts while urging stronger action against illegal mining.

With the first 120 days of his presidency now complete, UTAG-KNUST President, Prof. Eric Abavare, in an interview with Citi News expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, noting that the government’s early achievements offer hope for improved living conditions.

Prof. Abavare, however, lamented the lack of significant progress in the fight against illegal mining, describing it as a major area of concern.

“For the galamsey if I should rate the performance of the administration, peharps I may not give them up to 10%. The government has done abysmally poor. We have Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s report which contains all the information so if the minister, Hon Armah-Kofi Buah wants to fight as he claims, then nothing prevents him to take that report and work with it,” he stated.

Meanwhile, some residents shared similar views—praising the president’s initial performance but calling for intensified efforts to curb illegal mining.

“I think so far so good and I think it is because he has experienced it before. This time he is careful and he is trying to do what Ghanaians want,” Gabriel Owusu stated.

The Greater Accra Regional Constituency Organisers Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has voiced concern over what it describes as increasing harassment of Ghanaian business leaders, particularly targeting the McDan Group of Companies and its founder, Daniel McKorley.

Addressing a press conference in Accra on Friday, May 9, the Deputy Secretary of the caucus, Mr Eliis Amartei, condemned what he termed a “troubling pattern” of pressure and intimidation against local entrepreneurs, especially those operating within the Greater Accra Region.

“These entrepreneurs are critical partners in our public-private development agenda. Their efforts to create decent jobs for Ghanaian youth are being stifled by unnecessary investigations and public vilification. Dr McKorley is a national asset who has contributed significantly to job creation and economic growth. The narrative being created around Dr McKorley is deeply troubling,” Mr Amartei stated.

The caucus warned that continued harassment of local businesses could undermine President John Dramani Mahama’s flagship 24-hour economy policy, a central promise of the NDC’s governance and job creation strategy.

They urged the President and his administration to take immediate steps to address what they termed “abuse of power” by some officials and state institutions, who they allege are using their positions to settle personal scores under the guise of official investigations.

“We are calling on President Mahama to step in and ensure that business leaders like Dr McKorley are not unfairly targeted or used as scapegoats. This situation, if left unchecked, could derail the progress of the private sector and weaken investor confidence,” the organisers said.

MTN FA Cup 2024/25: Golden Kick reach final after 3-1 win over Attram De Visser

0

Lower-tier side Golden Kick FC have reached the final of the MTN FA Cup for the first time following their win over Attram De Visser on Saturday, May 10.

The Accra-based Division One side recorded a 3–1 win in a spirited semifinal clash at TNA Stadium in Tarkwa.

The breakthrough came in the 16th minute when Attram De Visser’s goalkeeper, Dawuud Ishaque, accidentally turned the ball into his own net. Golden Kick capitalised on the momentum just seven minutes later, with David Amuzu doubling the lead

After the break, substitute Bless Ege sealed the win with a sharp finish early in the second half. Attram De Visser, who had famously eliminated Hearts of Oak in the quarterfinals, managed a late goal in the 87th minute through Precious Yaw Gyimah, but it was too little, too late to spark a comeback.

This remarkable victory places Golden Kick among a rare group—only the third Division One club to reach the FA Cup final since 2011. They join FC Nania, Okwahu United (2016), and Bofoakwa Tano (2021) in this feat.

Golden Kick will face the winner of the other semifinal tie between nine-time champions Asante Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea, scheduled for Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the same venue.

Kickoff is at 15:00 GMT.

Code of Conduct will be enforced without exceptions – Government assures

Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu

The Mahama administration is signaling a firm commitment to upholding public accountability, with renewed focus on the enforcement of the Code of Conduct for public officers.

Speaking on the KeyPoints programme on TV3, a government representative underscored the importance of applying standards to protect public resources and ensure appointees are held to account.

“The purpose of the Code of Conduct for public officers is to safeguard public resources from flagrant abuse and to check the behavior of the President’s appointees.

The President is committed to enforcing standards, there is every indication that President Mahama means business because he has the track record,” the official stated.

According to him, a new tone is being set under President Mahama’s leadership, contrasting sharply with a past where breaches often went unpunished. “In the past, people flouted this with no consequences.

This time, President Mahama is setting a certain tone,” he said, noting that the current environment no longer tolerates impunity.

“We have moved from the position where there was no sanction to where there is sanction,” he emphasized.

The official explained that while the enforcement process is underway, some appointees were named after the most recent deadlines for compliance, which has created procedural delays. He said the Attorney-General’s office is expected to provide clarity on the matter.

“The reason why we need to wait for the A-G and do a perusal is because people are appointed on a different date and time, even after the latest deadline, some people have been appointed.

“So we will get an update for the A-G to be certain of why it has not been done what and what actions will take place,” he added.

New Hairstyles for Ladies

0

As we move into 2025, hair fashion is embracing bold new trends while still celebrating timeless classics with a modern twist. Ladies seeking to update their look can find inspiration in a variety of fresh, exciting styles that reflect both individuality and elegance. Here are some of the top hair trends expected to dominate in 2025:

1. Modern Shag Cut

The shag haircut, a retro favorite, continues its revival in 2025, but with a more polished, contemporary approach. This style combines layers of varying lengths for texture and volume, allowing the hair to move freely. The modern shag is versatile and can be tailored for any hair type, whether straight or curly, and works well with or without bangs.

2. Pixie Cut with Volume

Short haircuts are making a comeback, and the pixie cut is leading the charge. However, this time around, volume and texture take precedence. The traditional pixie is being reimagined with tousled layers and a more voluminous finish, making it an ideal choice for those who want a chic yet low-maintenance style.

3. Curtain Bangs

Curtain bangs are a timeless trend that continues to evolve. In 2025, expect to see them paired with soft waves or sleek straight hair. These bangs frame the face beautifully, offering a relaxed, natural look that adds elegance and sophistication to any hairstyle.

4. Blunt Bob with Color Accents

The blunt bob remains a favorite among fashion-forward women, but in 2025, it’s all about incorporating playful color accents. Whether it’s bold highlights, ombre effects, or pastel tones, adding color to the sharp edges of a blunt bob creates a striking contrast and modern flair.

5. Sleek and Shiny Long Hair

For those who prefer longer locks, the trend in 2025 is smooth, glossy hair with a healthy shine. Straight hair will continue to reign, with ultra-sleek styles achieved through advanced heat technology and nourishing products that enhance the hair’s natural luster.

6. Textured Waves

Loose, beachy waves continue to be a major trend in 2025. Textured waves add a relaxed, effortless vibe to any look, and they work well with various lengths, from shoulder-grazing to longer tresses. Adding layers to waves also increases volume and depth, creating a stunning, full-bodied effect.

As hairstyling evolves, 2025 encourages women to experiment with their looks, combining modern techniques with classic elements. Whether you prefer short and edgy or long and flowing, there’s a trend for every personality and occasion. It’s all about finding the style that best expresses who you are in this exciting new year.

A recent video circulating on social media shows a food vendor expressing her thanks to former President John Dramani Mahama for what she calls a considerable reduction in food prices. Holding a tuber of yam, the woman passionately congratulated Mahama, whom she referred to as her “saviour,” and attributed the price decline to the Ghana cedi’s recent rise versus major international currencies.

The vendor previously bought a gallon of cooking oil for GH¢1,000, but the price has suddenly dropped to GH¢680, a significant GH¢320 savings. A bag of rice now costs GH¢380, down from its previous price of GH¢500. Despite a reported yam shortage in the market, she managed to buy a tuber for GH¢40, further feeding her adoration for the former President.

The cedi’s strengthening, particularly against the US dollar, is thought to be helping to lower pricing for imported products and food. As of May 10, 2025, the cedi is selling at GH¢13.40 to the dollar at retail bureaus, while the pound and euro trade at GH¢18.50 and GH¢15.80, respectively.

The video elicited varied comments on social media, with some welcoming the price cut and others questioning Mahama’s political credit.

ORAL: 65 individuals have so far been investigated

Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that out of close to 25,000 applications received by the Operation Recover All Loot Committee, (ORAL) 280 applications were found to have merit and from this number, 65 individuals have so far been investigated in connection with allegations of corruption and misappropriation of state resources.

Speaking on TV3 Keypoints and monitored by GhanaWeb on Saturday May 10, 2025, he disclosed that approximately 2,500 of the total applications were formally processed, and from that figure, 280 submissions were deemed to have merit.

He noted that those that were deemed to have merit were subsequently passed on to the president, who forwarded them to the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, for appropriate legal consideration.

“280 of the applications were found to have some merit and so they were submitted to the president who gave it to the Attorney General.

“If you look at the report, they have what they call persons of interest, persons they believe should be spoken to understand what happened. That has been done,”, he stated.

He continued,”… (Sic) 65 people have been invited, they’ve been interrogated, questioned. Some of them have been granted bail, and some of them actually are on trial on a number of the cases.”

Kwakye Ofosu emphasised that ORAL’s core mandate was not to prosecute but to serve as a channel for receiving complaints, evidence that could potentially trigger formal investigations.

He also defended the Attornet General’s regular updates on ongoing investigations.

“Some have asked why the Attorney General gives updates. But this is important. The fight against corruption should not be shrouded in secrecy. ORAL was a specific campaign promise. Like all promises, its delivery must be accounted for,” he added.

The ORAL Committee, which was formed on December 18, 2024, was tasked with identifying and retrieving looted state assets.

This is why S&P Global Ratings upgraded Ghana’s credit rating

0

International credit rating agency S&P Global Ratings has upgraded Ghana’s sovereign credit rating from ‘Selective Default’ (SD) to ‘CCC+’, citing progress in the country’s debt restructuring efforts under President John Mahama’s administration.

The upgrade, announced on Friday, comes just 122 days after Mahama assumed office following the December 2024 elections. S&P attributed the decision to Ghana’s advancing negotiations with commercial creditors, including the successful Eurobond exchange in October 2024, and nearing completion of loan restructuring talks with external lenders.

Stable outlook

The agency maintained a stable outlook for Ghana’s foreign and local currency ratings, highlighting “supportive economic growth, ongoing fiscal reforms, and improved external position” as key factors. However, it cautioned that high debt servicing costs and weak public financial management during election cycles remain risks.

“The upgrade reflects authorities’ recent steps to restructure remaining commercial debt,” S&P stated. “We understand the government is nearing completion of its offers to restructure loans to external creditors, primarily commercial banks.”

Economic recovery and challenges

Ghana’s external metrics have strengthened, with gold export earnings rising by 53.2 per cent in 2024 and foreign exchange reserves recovering to nearly $4.6 billion. Inflation, though still high at 21.2 per cent, is declining due to a stronger cedi and energy prices.

Yet, challenges persist. S&P noted that Ghana’s debt sustainability remains vulnerable to exchange rate fluctuations, with external debt making up 62% of government liabilities. Tax administration weaknesses and spending overruns, particularly in election years, also pose fiscal risks.

Mahama’s reform agenda

Since taking office, President Mahama’s government has prioritised expenditure cuts, IMF-backed fiscal reforms, and legislative changes, including amendments to the Public Financial Management Act. The administration has also committed to clearing arrears uncovered after the 2024 elections, though an official audit is still underway.

S&P acknowledged Ghana’s resilient growth—5.7 per cent in 2024—driven by industrial and services sector rebounds. However, it warned that cocoa production faces long-term threats from illegal gold mining, which degrades farmland and diverts labour.

Future risks and opportunities

While the stable outlook suggests cautious optimism, S&P warned that ratings could be downgraded if fiscal discipline weakens or debt servicing pressures rise. Conversely, faster reserve accumulation or stronger public finance management could lead to further upgrades.

The upgrade marks a milestone for Ghana’s economic recovery, but as S&P noted, “the road ahead remains fraught with challenges.”

A former presidential staffer, Charles Bissue, has settled the hospital bills of all mothers who are delivering at the Essikado Government Hospital in the Western Region from Friday, May 9 to Sunday, May 10, 2025, to commemorate the 2025 Mother’s Day celebrations on Sunday, May 10.

In a viral video sighted by GhanaWeb on Saturday, May 9, 2025, some beneficiaries expressed their gratitudes for the kind gesture, which they said brought immense relief.

“My wife delivered at this facility, and the bill has been paid by Charles Bissue because of the upcoming Mother’s Day celebrations. He is covering the bills of all women who delivered from Friday to Sunday, and we are extremely grateful,” a husband of one of the mothers stated.

Another mother who had undergone a Caesarean section shared her appreciation.

“I gave birth at Essikado Hospital through CS, and I want to say thank you to Honourable Charles Bissue for this kind gesture. God bless him wherever he is,” she said.

Health workers at the facility also praised Bissue for his continued support.

“Last year, he paid the bills of new mothers, and this year he has done the same. We are really appreciative. God bless him,” a staff member noted.

The day is a special opportunity to honour the sacrifices, strength and profound contributions mothers make to families.

MSport’s MShola Meets Serhou Guirassy: From Digital Dreams to Passion In Action

MSport Fulfils a Fan’s Dream: Digital Meet with Serhou Guirassy

From thousands of entries across Africa, one name stood out—“Cobo.” A football blogger and lifelong BVB supporter, Cobo was selected through the #MSportSeekMShola campaign to host a one-on-one digital interview with Borussia Dortmund star Serhou Guirassy.

More than just autographs or football tips, the moment reflected the “Be Like MShola” ethos: unwavering belief and a shared love for the game. Guirassy spoke passionately about what makes Dortmund special—not just the football, but the way the entire city lives for the club. In his words, it’s “Dortmund before the city”—a deep-rooted bond that echoes the spirit of MShola.

Serhou Guirassy: From Dreamer to Dortmund Star

Guirassy’s move to Borussia Dortmund fulfilled a childhood dream inspired by legendary Champions League clashes against Bayern Munich. Although he arrived recovering from injury, stepping into the black-and-yellow kit was a personal triumph.

“Signal Iduna Park isn’t just a stadium—it’s a monument. The Yellow Wall’s roar echoes like thunder,” he said.

If he could relive one match, it would be Dortmund’s unforgettable win over Barcelona—a night when team spirit and crowd energy became one.

Watch the full interview with Serhou Guirassy on MSport’s official YouTube channel.

Beyond the Pitch: Inside Guirassy’s Mindset

Matchday for Guirassy is grounded in simplicity: balanced nutrition, restorative sleep, and mental focus. He eschews superstitions—no curated playlists or elaborate rituals—relying on steady routines to keep him sharp.

Off the field, he discovered a childhood dream of firefighting, a testament to his selfless spirit that now powers his on-pitch work rate. Though not glued to social media, he shares candid training snippets on Snapchat before unwinding with family and a home-cooked meal.

MSport Meets Guirassy: Fun Facts from Behind the Scenes

Even under Champions League lights, Guirassy retains a serene focus, though hearing the anthem still sends chills down his spine. When asked to pick between a spectacular bicycle kick or a pinpoint free-kick, he opted for the spectacular:

“Those moments stick with fans forever.”

At training, Nico Schlotterbeck brings the laughs, while Felix and Ramy Bensebaini are surprisingly funny. For Guirassy, balancing competitive intensity with locker-room joy is the secret to strong team spirit.

Modest Outfits Ladies Can Wear To Church Service.

News Hub Creator42min

Attending church services requires outfits that balance modesty, elegance, and comfort, ensuring respect for the sacred environment. Many women prefer dresses with longer hemlines, such as midi or maxi styles, as they provide full coverage while remaining stylish. Sleeves, whether short, three-quarter, or long, add an extra layer of modesty, making them a practical choice for worship settings. Flowy fabrics like chiffon or cotton keep the look graceful without being restrictive, allowing ease of movement during service. Shirt dresses with buttons down the front offer a polished appearance, especially when paired with a thin belt to define the waist. Wrap dresses are another excellent option, as their adjustable design ensures a flattering yet modest fit. Skirts paired with blouses create versatile church outfits, with A-line or pencil skirts providing a structured silhouette.

Maxi skirts in solid colors or subtle prints maintain sophistication while keeping the ensemble appropriate for a place of worship. Tucking in a modest blouse elevates the outfit, giving a neat and put-together impression. For churches that permit pants, tailored trousers in neutral tones present a refined alternative, especially when matched with a tucked-in blouse or a modest sweater. Jumpsuits with higher necklines and longer sleeves can also be a stylish yet respectful choice if the design avoids being too tight. Layering plays a key role in adapting outfits to different seasons while maintaining modesty.

Light cardigans or blazers over sleeveless dresses ensure shoulder coverage, while turtlenecks worn underneath add warmth and modesty in cooler weather. Accessories like scarves or shawls offer a quick solution for additional coverage when needed. Footwear should complement the outfit without sacrificing comfort, making low heels, loafers, or ballet flats ideal choices. Avoiding overly revealing cuts, sheer fabrics, or excessively tight clothing ensures the focus remains on reverence rather than fashion. By selecting pieces that prioritize modesty without compromising style, women can feel both confident and respectful during church services.

Galamsey: Ghana loses 44 forest reserves, over 5,252 hectares destroyed

0

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has said 44 forest reserves out of 288 in the country have been degraded, while over 5,252 hectares have been lost to illegal mining (galamsey).

He explained that river turbidity levels exceeded 5,000 Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTU), far beyond the permissible 500 NTU, while toxic chemicals such as mercury and cyanide further endangered ecosystems and communities.

Mr Buah revealed this in a speech delivered on his behalf at the closing ceremony of the 4th Annual Transformational Dialogue on Small-scale Mining, organised by the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Fiapre, Bono Region, last Thursday.

The two-day dialogue was held under the theme: “Eliminating Illegal Mining in Ghana. The Will and the Bill.”

Data alarming, arrests

The minister said the government alone could not eradicate galamsey. “It requires the collective will of communities, industries, stakeholders, traditional leaders and environmental advocates,” he said.

Mr Buah said the data was alarming. Updating the gathering on the fight against galamsey, he revealed 150 excavators, five bulldozers and weapons had been confiscated, while 71 persons had been arrested.

Mr Buah said that due to enforcement, seven of nine previously inaccessible forest reserves had been cleared.

He said despite past interventions, illegal mining persisted, fuelled by weak political will, inconsistent enforcement and complicity at various levels of governance.

Mr Buah said other factors were security gaps, inadequate geological data, delay in prosecutions, foreign infiltration, greed and complicity among some politicians, traditional leaders and citizens.

Other issues, he mentioned, were the use of armed gangs by illegal miners to intimidate and resist enforcement and the unregulated equipment importation, such as excavators and other machinery.

Systemic change

Mr Buah said eradicating illegal mining demanded more than just laws, explaining that it required political will, collective action and systemic change.

He said the current government was resolute in its mission to eradicate the destructive practice and called for  collective action to eliminate the menace.

Mr Buah called for the strengthening of legal frameworks to ensure robust enforcement within the community, economic alternatives, and transparent governance to uphold ethical standards across the sector.

He said the government had adopted some strategies to facilitate a robust mining sector.

Mr Buah mentioned a licensing regime reform, where new licences would be issued at the district level with the involvement of traditional authorities and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Revoke licences

He said the government had revoked all post-December 2024 licences due to irregularities and replaced the Community Mining Scheme with a Cooperative Mining Scheme.

Mr Buah said excavators were now geo-tagged and monitored 24/7; and non-compliance triggers remote immobilisation.

He said all excavators imported into the country would be registered and tracked while those already in existence would be registered.

Mr Buah said the government had enhanced a more robust joint task force, made up of the military, police, and the Forestry Commission, to flush out illegal miners.

He urged the public to report illegal activities to eliminate illegal mining and build a sector that thrives on sustainability, equity and national pride.

Dialogue

The dialogue, he said, had not only highlighted the socio-economic contributions of ASM but had also confronted pressing issues such as environmental degradation and regulatory enforcement.

He explained that the ASM sector contributed significantly to the economy, accounting for a third of Ghana’s gold production, employing about three million people, and bolstering rural economies while supporting millions of livelihoods.

“Yet, its potential is undermined by the scourge of galamsey, which ravages our environment, pollutes water bodies and threatens public health,” Mr Buah said.

He said the scourge of galamsey threatened to eclipse the benefits, posing severe environmental, public health, and economic risks.

The first aircraft for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage has successfully landed at the Tamale International Airport ahead of the scheduled departure of Ghanaian pilgrims on May 10, 2025.

This marks the official commencement of the 2025 Hajj operations in Ghana, with hundreds of Muslim faithfuls expected to journey to the Holy Land in the coming days.

According to a video report by ChannelOne TV shared on X, the arrival of the aircraft signals the Ghana Hajj Board’s readiness to ensure a smooth and well-coordinated pilgrimage.

Airport staff, security personnel, and Hajj officials were seen at the tarmac overseeing final checks and preparations.

Officials from the Ghana Hajj Board also confirmed that all logistical arrangements, including accommodation, transportation, and health protocols, have been finalised.

The first batch of pilgrims are expected to board the aircraft from Tamale to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on May 10, 2025.

The Hajj Board praised the cooperation of all stakeholders, including the Ministry of Transport, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, and the regional coordinating council, for facilitating a seamless arrival and planned departure process with reduced fares.

“We are fully prepared and confident this year’s pilgrimage will be safe and spiritually fulfilling for all Ghanaian pilgrims,” the report said.

Many pilgrims, some of whom have traveled from remote communities in northern Ghana, expressed excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to embark on the sacred journey.

For many, the Hajj is a once-in-a-lifetime religious obligation, and preparations for the trip have been ongoing for months.

The Tamale International Airport has been a key departure hub for Ghanaian pilgrims in recent years, especially for those living in the northern parts of the country.

Its use helps to ease congestion at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra and offers a more convenient option for pilgrims in the region.

Ghana is expected to send over 4,000 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj in 2025.

Authorities continue to emphasise the importance of compliance with international travel and health regulations, and all pilgrims have been advised to adhere strictly to the guidance provided by the Hajj Board and Saudi officials throughout the pilgrimage.

Code of Conduct will be enforced without exceptions – Gov’t assures

Hearts fans prevent the club’s MD from accessing office, accuse him of being incompetent

0

Some Hearts of Oak fans, on Friday, May 9, prevented the club’s Managing Director, Delali Anku-Adiamah, from accessing his office following what they describe as ‘incompetent’ acts from him.

According to the section of the fans who were at his office earlier in the day, Anku-Adiamah has allowed Vincent Odotei-Sowah and Alhaji Akanbi to take over his duties, with the two failing to deliver the desired results.

They also cited the inability of the managing director to move the club in the direction they have been looking forward to, asking him to resign in the coming days.

“Stay out of the club. We are tired of you. As an MD, you don’t take care of the team well. When you were coming, you told us you would bring sponsors within three months, and since you have been here, everything is disorganised,” the leader of the fans said.

“The team is bigger than you, leave the team and go…”

Hearts have enjoyed a rollercoaster campaign during the 2024/25 season, winning just 12 of their 30 games in the Ghana Premier League while picking up 10 draws and 8 defeats.

They currently sit sixth on the league table with four games to go until the end of the season.

Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu

The Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has said that the Mahama administration’s ongoing effort to retrieve state resources allegedly misappropriated by former government officials has led to the investigation of 65 individuals.

Speaking on TV3’s The Key Points on Saturday, May 10, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that the current government is determined to shift away from the longstanding culture of impunity. “In the past, people flouted this with no consequences. President Mahama is setting a certain tone this time,” he said.

The Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), launched to track and retrieve public funds and assets, has so far handled over 200 cases. Out of these, 65 individuals have come under active investigation. “65 people have been investigated out of over 200 cases from ORAL,” the minister disclosed.

He further clarified the delay in certain appointments related to the initiative, indicating that the Attorney-General is in the process of reviewing specific cases to determine appropriate actions.

“The reason why we need to wait for the A-G and do a perusal is because people are appointed on a different date and time, even after the latest deadline, some people have been appointed,” he explained.

With public interest intensifying, Kwakye Ofosu reassured that the necessary legal procedures are being followed and that sanctions are now firmly part of the government’s approach. “We have moved from the position where there was no sanction to where there is sanction,” he asserted.
