University of Ghana reacts to Prof. Gyampo and Dr. Domfe’s recent altercation

0

The University of Ghana says it has initiated internal procedures to address the recent public confrontation between two of its senior academics, Prof. Ransford Gyampo and Dr. George Domfe.

In a statement issued on Friday, November 21, 2025, the university said the actions of both lecturers are being assessed under the University of Ghana Statutes (2024) and the Code of Conduct for Academic Senior Members (2011).

Management noted a widely circulated video showing the two lecturers in a heated verbal exchange during a live appearance on TV3’s current affairs programme, , on Saturday, November 15, 2025. What began as a panel discussion escalated into a tense personal argument.

The university explained that it has activated its internal mechanisms to examine the conduct of the lecturers and determine appropriate disciplinary measures.

“The University demands high standards of professionalism, integrity and decorum from all faculty and staff, and expects all members of the University community to uphold these values in both public and private engagements,” the statement said.

“Management remains committed to safeguarding the dignity of the University and preserving public confidence in the institution,” the statement added.

Nursing Graduates urged to lead change in Ghana’s healthcare system

By Edward Dankwah

Accra, Nov. 21, GNA – Mrs. Faustina Essel Adepa, the Principal, School of Peri-Operative and Critical Care Nursing, has charged newly graduated trained specialist nurses to step into their professions as agents of change and contributors to a more resilient healthcare system in Ghana.

She urged them to go into the world with their expertise, to save lives, shape communities and strengthen national health outcomes.

The Principal was speaking at the 9th Joint Graduation Ceremony held by the School of Peri-Operative and Critical Care Nursing, Ophthalmic Nursing School, Public Health Nursing School, and School of Anaesthesia, in Accra.

It was on the theme, “Empowering a Resilient Healthcare System in Ghana through Specialised Nursing.”

The ceremony saw 414 students from the four Schools conferred with certificates after years of rigorous academic and clinical training.

The graduating class included 162 from Peri-Operative and Critical Care Nursing, 128 from the Public Health Nursing School, 89 from Ophthalmic Nursing, and 35 from the School of Anesthesia.

Mrs Adepa described the ceremony as a celebration of perseverance, sacrifice, and professionalism.

“You have endured long hours of study, intense clinical practice, and numerous challenges. Today, we honour your resilience, your commitment, and your passion for nursing,” she said.

She emphasised that the health sector needed not just more practitioners, but dedicated specialists ready to drive transformation.

The Principal noted that the skills and expertise of the graduates would save lives, strengthen communities, and contribute significantly to national development.

Mrs Adepa extended appreciation to families, mentors, and faculty members whose support had been pivotal to the graduates’ success.

“This achievement is shared. Your investment in these graduates will continue to bear fruit as they make meaningful contributions to society,” she added.

She said the careers of the newly trained specialists would require courage, innovation, empathy, and sound judgement, particularly in complex clinical situations where their decisions may determine the course of a patient’s life.

The Principal encouraged the graduates to wear their caps and gowns with pride, reminding them of the responsibility and honour associated with the nursing profession.

Professor Elvis Ofori Ameyaw, the Deputy Director, Directorate of Research, Innovation and Consultancy, University of Cape Coast, said the ceremony was a reaffirmation of Ghana’s commitment to producing a specialised and ethically grounded workforce.

He said their achievement was not only a testament to their intelligence but also to their resilience, discipline and commitment to humanity.

Professor Ameyaw said specialised nursing was no longer an added advantage but a national necessity, such that Ghana’s evolving health profile demanded a workforce, equipped with technical expertise, emotional intelligence and the ability to function effectively.

“Collectively, you embody the competences required to strengthen Ghana’s health system,” he added.

He reaffirmed the University’s continuous support through curriculum oversight, quality assurance, research collaboration, faculty development and capacity building initiatives.

Professor Ameyaw urged the graduates to approach every patient with empathy, embrace new technologies, new knowledge and new methods as they stepped into the professional world.

Government ‘pumped’ $8 billion to shore up cedi

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Ranking Member on the Economic Committee of Parliament Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Ranking Member on the Economic Committee of Parliament

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, has alleged that government, through the Bank of Ghana, has injected US$8 billion into the economy this year in a bid to stabilise the Cedi against foreign exchange pressures.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, during the debate on the 2026 Budget, Oppong Nkrumah cautioned that the intervention was only a temporary measure.

He warned that any external shock could erode the gains made, leaving the currency vulnerable once again.

The legislator disclosed that government had cut GH¢28 billion in expenditure after failing to meet its revenue targets.

As a result, he said, the administration could not allocate US$5 billion to the Feed Ghana programme, which was intended to boost agricultural productivity.

Oppong Nkrumah also criticised government for failing to provide GH¢51 million seed capital to the Women’s Development Bank, describing the move as a setback for women’s empowerment initiatives.

The lawmaker questioned the fiscal priorities of the administration, citing the announcement to purchase two executive jets as misplaced at a time when resources were scarce.

He urged the government to review its fiscal strategy and channel investments into real sectors of the economy to spur growth and create sustainable jobs.

In response, Cletus Seidu Dapilah, National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Jirapa, expressed optimism about the 2026 Budget, insisting that it offered hope for employment opportunities for the youth.

Stephen Appiah commends Black Stars despite defeats to Japan and South Korea

Vice Chairman of Black Stars Management Committee, Stephen Appiah, has commended the performance of the team despite their back-to-back defeats in the 2025 Kirin Challenge Cup.

The Black Stars, as part of their preparations for next year’s World Cup, headed to Asia to play against Japan and South Korea.

In the first game, Ghana lost 2-0 against Japan at the Toyota Stadium before losing 1-0 to South Korea at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

Despite the disappointment, Appiah, who is a former skipper of the team, has praised the players for their performance.

“I’m so happy with the performance of the guys, especially in the second game against South Korea. Against Japan, the second half they played well [and] against South Korea they played better,” Appiah told Kobe Boujee.

“We went there for results, but at times it’s not only about the results but also about the performance. You watch certain games and you see teams losing, but you see the fans applauding them, which means they gave everything.”

“That’s what our guys did, and I am also happy that some of the guys had the chance to show themselves because they have been in camp for so many months, and they have been getting call-ups, but they don’t get the chance to play, so platforms like these will give them the chance to show themselves,” he added.

The Black Stars will reassemble again in March to continue their preparations for the Mundial, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Meanwhile, Black Stars will learn their group opponents for the World Cup on December 5.

Ghanaian Kente-Inspired Bridal Outfits Gain Global Spotlight

Ghanaian Culture-Inspired Bridal Outfits Gain Global Spotlight

Ghanaian culture-inspired bridal outfits are emerging as a major trend both locally and internationally, as brides embrace traditional aesthetics blended with modern fashion. From the iconic Kente cloth to intricately beaded couture gowns, designers across Ghana are reimagining cultural elements to create statement pieces for contemporary weddings.

In recent years, the demand for culturally rooted bridal wear has surged, driven by a renewed appreciation for heritage, symbolism, and identity. Kente remains at the forefront of this movement. Known for its vibrant colors and historic significance, the fabric has become a centerpiece for brides seeking elegance and cultural pride. Bridal designers are now incorporating advanced tailoring, structured silhouettes, and 3D embellishments into Kente designs, transforming traditional patterns into runway-level creations.

Another rising trend is the fusion of Kenbre and lace, producing softer palettes and seamless blends suitable for both traditional and white wedding ceremonies. Many brides are opting for hybrid looks—Kente corseted gowns paired with detachable overskirts, jumpsuits styled with royal capes, and two-piece sets that offer flexibility and comfort without sacrificing grandeur.

Accessories have also maintained their cultural relevance. The tekua, a traditional Akan headpiece, and the duku, a ceremonial head wrap, continue to play important roles in bridal styling. These are often complemented by gold or coral bead jewelry, symbolizing wealth, fertility, and royalty. Makeup artists and hairstylists now collaborate closely with designers to ensure a flawless blend of tradition and modern bridal aesthetics.

According to designers, the ongoing rise of social media has contributed significantly to showcasing Ghanaian bridal fashion to global audiences. Wedding photographers and influencers frequently highlight traditional ceremonies, allowing the world to appreciate the creativity embedded in Ghanaian culture.

As more brides proudly express cultural identity through fashion, Ghanaian bridal wear is not only preserving tradition but shaping a vibrant future in global fashion.

GFA Releases GH¢300,000 To Regions To Ease Refereeing Costs

0

Stakeholders at the meeting

THE GHANA Football Association (GFA) has disbursed GH₵300,000 to Regional Football Associations (RFAs) to help cover officiating fees for the 2025/26 football season, providing much-needed relief for clubs competing in regional leagues.

The funding is part of a broader effort to ease one of the biggest financial pressures on lower-tier teams — the high cost of refereeing.

According to the GFA, the allocation formula took into account the number of active clubs in each region, the volume of matches expected this season, and the overall referee expenditure in each jurisdiction to ensure a fair and balanced distribution.

Greater Accra, which hosts the largest number of clubs and fixtures, received the highest amount – GH₵50,000.

All other regions were allocated GH₵30,000 each, except the Upper East and Upper West RFAs, which received GH₵20,000 apiece due to relatively smaller competition volumes.

The RFAs, together with their District Football Associations (DFAs), are responsible for organising Division Two and Division Three leagues, the Regional Women’s Division One League, and the Colts U13, U15, and U17 competitions.

Clubs in these divisions have long struggled to keep up with the cost of officiating, making the GFA’s intervention a timely boost for grassroots football development.

The Association says the support is aimed at strengthening regional competitions and ensuring that financial constraints do not compromise the quality and fairness of officiating in the upcoming season.

DTI graduates 328 students, reinforces focus on character-led technical training

0

The Design & Technology Institute (DTI) has graduated its sixth cohort of 328 students, marking a milestone since its founding in 2019.

The graduation ceremony took place on 20 November 2025, at the Agape New Testament Church in Accra.

The event was held under the theme “Character By Design: Building Tomorrow With Purpose,” highlighting DTI’s strong emphasis on personal character as well as technical training.

Among its key programs, DTI offers training in welding and fabrication, design innovation, and entrepreneurship, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.

Notably, 55.0% of the graduates were female, showing strong gender representation in its technical programs.

DTI’s founder and president, Constance Elizabeth Swaniker, stressed the importance of soft skills, saying that while technical abilities open doors, character, adaptability, and communication are what allow individuals to go far.

She highlighted how the school’s extracurricular programs — like the DTI Challenge and creative arts — help students build emotional intelligence, self-confidence, and leadership.

DTI Opens State-of-the-Art Welding, Training Centre

A major development for DTI this year is the opening of a state-of-the-art Welding Training and Testing Centre, featuring a 40-booth workshop, digital welding simulators, and a metallurgical testing lab.

This facility strengthens DTI’s capacity to train welders to international standards.

DTI is unique in Ghana and West Africa as a dual TVET institution, meaning it combines both practical, hands-on training and classroom-based theory in a “production school” model.

At the ceremony, Will Senyo, Co-Founder and CEO of Impact Hub Accra, gave the keynote address, focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship.

Several graduates won awards in categories like Best Design Innovation, Best Entrepreneurship, Exemplary Leadership, and Overall Best Student.

DTI reports a 70% employability rate for its graduates. According to their data, many now work in sectors such as telecommunications, fashion, engineering, technology, hospitality, and creative media.

Others have gone into self-employment, leveraging seed funding and incubation support from DTI.

The institute’s curriculum is co-designed with industry partners, and DTI works closely with the Ghana Standards Authority, CTVET, and the National Development Planning Commission to help shape national training standards. Its strong performance and alignment with market needs reflect its role in shaping the future of technical education in Ghana.

Government to construct Fish Markets in Dambai and Shama – Mahama

0

By Iddi Yire

Accra, Nov. 21, GNA- President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that government will next year construct fish markets in Dambai in the Oti Region and in the Shama District of the Western Region.

The President made the disclosure in his remarks at the maiden National Chief Fisherman and Fishmongers Conference in Accra.

This he said has been captured in the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of Government.

The event on the theme, “Resettling Fisheries – Chief Fishermen and Fishmongers, has Guardians and Partners in Sustainable Fisheries Management”, was attended by chief fishermen and queen fishmongers from the four coastal regions – Western, Central, Greater Accra and Volta.

The event was oganised with support from Bloom Ocean Initiative, Blue Ventures and Ocean 5, sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.

President Mahama also indicated that the request for a fish market in Accra by fisherfolks would also receive favourable response from the Government.

“My dear Chief Fisherman and Queen Fishmongers, the future of Ghana’s fisheries depends on what we collectively commit to today,” he stated.

“I therefore urge you to champion responsible fishing practices, lead community education and discipline, work closely with enforcement agencies, support peace, unity and elimination of illegal practices, and stand firm as guardians of our marine resources.”

Regarding exemption from close season fishing, he said artisanal fishers were exempted from the close season and that he encouraged them to reciprocate the gesture by not doing anything illegal during the closed season.

The President said the Government was also in the process of acquiring two new offshore patrol vessels for the Ghana Navy to be patrolling the nation’s coast.

He announced that the Government was also going to launch an initiative for clean beaches and that the fishers were going to be involved.

“We are going to employ people to clean the beaches and make sure that we keep our beaches clean. So, you can give us your youth, we are going to employ them, and we will pay them the monthly allowance.”

Madam Emelia Arthur, the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, announced that the President had approved for the provision of a pickup vehicle and a bus for the Fishermen’s Council.

The Ga Mantse, Nii Tachie Teiko Tsuru, said the Government’s transformative agenda and resetting the fisheries industry would demand promoting compliance, safeguarding traditional norms, supporting responsible use of marine resources and to safeguard the nation’s prospects.

Sports Minister Pushes For Ghana– Nigeria–Côte d’Ivoire Joint World Cup Bid

0

Kofi Adams

MINISTER OF Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says Ghana should begin exploring the possibility of co-hosting a future FIFA World Cup with Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, insisting the idea is both realistic and timely given FIFA’s growing preference for multi-nation tournaments.

His comments follow recent hosting trends, with the USA, Mexico and Canada set to stage the 2026 World Cup, while Morocco, Spain and Portugal will jointly host the 2030 edition. Mr. Adams believes West Africa can follow the same model.

“FIFA is beginning to adopt a number of nations doing it, so maybe, who knows — the next one could be Ghana, Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire coming together to also host the World Cup, and it will be good,” he said.

Mr. Adams added that both Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire have already invested significantly in sporting infrastructure, especially after Côte d’Ivoire successfully staged the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

He also noted that Ghana’s hosting of the postponed 2023 African Games in 2024 shows the country remains capable of organising major international events.

“We can also ask for that right,” the Minister stressed, urging government to start considering long-term plans that could make such a historic West African bid possible.

If pursued, the proposal would mark the first-ever World Cup bid involving three West African nations.

My encounter and my verdict

0

In an era when quality healthcare is often spoken of more than it is experienced, finding a medical facility that delivers excellence from entrance to exit feels almost miraculous.

This morning, during what was supposed to be a simple routine check-up, I discovered a gem quietly redefining private healthcare in Ghana — By Grace Medical Centre, a private medical facility committed to exceptional care, professionalism, and patient comfort.

A warm welcome that set the tone

My encounter began at the front desk, the very place where many healthcare stories either take a wrong turn or start with frustration. But here, the reception was nothing short of superb.

The front-desk attendant greeted me with a disarming smile, calm efficiency, and the kind of warmth that immediately makes a patient feel at ease.

The registration process was smooth, quick, and organized — a refreshing departure from the long queues and confusion that too often define hospital reception areas.

Nurses with professional finesse

From the reception, I was ushered to the vitals section, where the nursing team displayed notable professionalism. Using modern, well-maintained equipment, they took me through the standard checks — blood pressure, temperature, weight, and other vital signs — all with impressive precision.

Their communication was clear, their demeanor reassuring, and their confidence evident. It was a clinical dance performed with skill, leaving no room for doubt that this was a facility invested in both technology and competence.

Meeting the doctor: A pleasant revelation

I was then directed to see the doctor and little did I know that this would become the highlight of my visit.

Sitting across from me was a young lady whose calm presence and attentiveness were immediately noticeable.

Initially, I assumed she was going to call the ‘senior doctor’ to conduct my assessment. To my surprise — and eventual admiration — she was the medical doctor herself.

With quintessential expertise and a refreshing blend of empathy and intelligence, she examined me with the confidence of a seasoned professional. She asked the right questions, explained every step of the consultation, and ensured I understood my health status.

Her mastery of her craft was displayed with aplomb, leaving me deeply impressed. It was an encounter that reaffirmed my belief that great medical care does not always come with age but with dedication, training, and passion.

The facility: A new standard in private healthcare

Walking through By Grace Medical Centre revealed an environment that stands in stark contrast to the unfortunate realities of many local healthcare facilities.

Not once did I encounter the common nuisances that plague a significant number of Ghanaian hospitals — no mosquitoes buzzing around, no flies hovering, and certainly no unpleasant scents lingering in the corridors. The centre was clean, well-aerated, and meticulously maintained.

The layout of the hospital is modern without being intimidating. Rooms are spacious, waiting areas are comfortable, and the general ambiance promotes a sense of calm. It is evident that attention has been paid not only to medical service delivery but also to patient experience.

The CEO: The gentle giant behind the vision

At the helm of this impressive healthcare institution is Michael Appiah Boateng, affectionately known by many as the “gentle giant.” His leadership style, marked by approachability and his signature warm laughter, has cultivated a team that mirrors his values — compassion, excellence, and discipline.

Under his direction, By Grace Medical Centre continues to achieve significant milestones in private healthcare, including:

• Integration of modern diagnostic and monitoring equipment

• Adoption of digital patient record systems for faster, safer service

• Consistent training for staff to uphold high standards

• Expansion of specialist services to meet diverse patient needs

• Maintaining an environment that exceeds Ghanaian private hospital hygiene norms

• These achievements reflect a facility determined not just to operate, but to excel.

My verdict: A model for private healthcare in Ghana

My visit to By Grace Medical Centre left me with a lasting impression — one of confidence, comfort, and genuine satisfaction. From the courteous front-desk team to the skilled nurses and the exceptional young medical doctor, every interaction affirmed that this is a healthcare facility operating with purpose and pride.

In a country where many patients have learned to settle for “manageable” care, By Grace Medical Centre challenges that narrative. It sets a standard, one where cleanliness, professionalism, empathy, and efficiency coexist seamlessly.

My verdict is simple: By Grace Medical Centre is not just a private hospital; it is a model of what healthcare in Ghana should look like. My routine check-up evolved into a reminder that excellence in healthcare is possible — and right here among us.

UG management initiates probe into conduct of Gyampo, Domfeh in viral video

0

The management of the University of Ghana (UG) has initiated internal processes against Professor Ransford Gyampo, CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, and Dr George Domfeh following an altercation between the two.

The two individuals, both senior members of the institution, came under public criticism after a video of them exchanging insults on national television went viral.

‘We’ve apologised to each other’ – Professor Gyampo, Dr Domfeh smoke peace pipe

Reacting to the incident, which occurred on November 15, 2025, the University said it has begun internal procedures to review the conduct of the two individuals, described as “senior members”, to determine appropriate disciplinary actions.

“Management of the University of Ghana has noted a widely circulated video which captured Professor Ransford Gyampo and Dr George Domfeh, both Senior Members of the University, in a confrontation during a media engagement on The Key Points, a current affairs programme on TV3, on Saturday, 15th November 2025. The video shows a panel discussion that degenerated into a personal and heated exchange between the two.

“Management has, in accordance with the University of Ghana Statutes (2024) and the Code of Conduct for Academic Senior Members (2011), triggered internal processes to review the conduct of the two Senior Members and take necessary disciplinary actions,” a statement dated Friday, November 21, 2025, and signed by management read.

The University reminded staff and students that it expects all members of the community to act professionally and with integrity to avoid damaging the institution’s reputation.

“The University demands high standards of professionalism, integrity and decorum from all faculty and staff, and expects all members of the University community to uphold these values in both public and private engagements. Management remains committed to safeguarding the dignity of the University and preserving public confidence in the institution,” it added.

Meanwhile, Professor Gyampo and Dr Domfeh have announced their reconciliation.

Dr Domfeh first disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Wednesday, November 20, 2025, stating that they had both accepted responsibility after further discussions.

“Professor Gyampo acknowledged that he regrets his commentary against my person, which was distasteful and defamatory, especially considering our longstanding collegial relationship. I, in turn, admitted that I went so hard with my comments about his person in response to his position on my commentary; we have sincerely apologised to each other.

“We have mutually agreed to put this episode behind us and move forward with renewed respect for each other. As public intellectuals, we remain committed to engaging in serious national discourse without allowing disagreements to degenerate into personal animosity,” he wrote.

‘More women might come out against you if you go to court’ – Lawyer tells Prof Gyampo

Professor Gyampo responded to the post shortly after, confirming the reconciliation.

He rejected the claim of defamation but accepted the apology, writing, “You know I didn’t defame or attack anybody, but Dr Domfeh, apology accepted. Please, please, please, let’s let go. He’s still my brother.”

The Head Pastor of Wordlight Revival Centre Worldwide shared his message during a church service, speaking with certainty about what he believes awaits the Ghanaian midfielder.

Prophet Clement drops prophecy about Partey’s legal case

During the sermon, the man of God addressed Partey’s case directly and encouraged the former Tema Youth player to remain grounded in faith.

He declared that God had stepped into the matter and described the case as a “foolish one”, a statement that sparked instant applause from the congregation.

Prophet Testimony went further by claiming that “all the conspiracy from the pit of hell” had been defeated.

According to him, Partey should stay encouraged, because divine intervention had already worked in his favour.

He stated confidently that the case scheduled for trial on November 2, 2026, would be dismissed and urged the midfielder to “give thanks”.

The clergyman also advised the Villarreal star to be cautious and watch the company he keeps.

He concluded by affirming that God’s mercy had spoken for the midfielder and that the “watchers” had spoiled the case.

Below is the prophecy about Partey:

@atokwamina4716 added:

“It is finished.”

@AbdulRahman-uz4hd wrote:

“AMEN.”

@danielwealths shared his gratitude:

“Praise God.”

@vida_changmi summed up the mood:

“Glory be to the almighty God.”

Partey navigates legal case and football

This message arrives as Partey continues to navigate a case that has generated wide public interest.

According to ESPN, the 32-year-old faces five counts of non-consensual acts involving two women, along with a separate charge of sexual assault involving a third woman.

The alleged incidents span 2021 and 2022 during his time at Arsenal. Partey has pleaded not guilty and awaits trial before a High Court judge on November 2, 2026.

Despite the disruption to his preseason, Partey has worked his way back into Villarreal’s setup.

Transfermarkt records show he has featured in 14 matches across all competitions.

Although injury kept him out of Ghana’s friendlies against Japan and South Korea, he is expected to return when Villarreal meet Mallorca on November 22 in the Spanish La Liga.

Prophet Clement’s warning to Black Stars

In an earlier report, YEN.com.gh noted that Prophet Clement Testimony warned the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He cautioned the technical team not to rely too much on foreign-born players switching nationality, claiming that the inclusion of many dual nationals could spiritually affect Ghana’s progress and harm their World Cup hopes.

Kotoko Edge Young Apostles 2–1 To End Winless Run

Kotoko line-up

ASANTE KOTOKO returned to winning form on Wednesday afternoon after defeating Young Apostles 2–1 in a tense outstanding Week 6 Premier League clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The victory ends the Porcupine Warriors’ two-match winless streak and keeps them firmly in the chase for the top spot in the 2025/26 season.

Kotoko controlled proceedings from the start, dominating possession and carving out several chances. However, a mixture of wayward finishing and stubborn defending from the visitors ensured both sides went into the break without a goal.

The breakthrough finally came six minutes into the second half when midfielder Hubert Gyau unleashed a brilliant strike to give the hosts a deserved lead. But Young Apostles hit back almost immediately — just three minutes later, Richmond Opoku connected with a towering header to level the score after a well-worked attacking move.

With the game finely poised, the tempo increased as both teams surged forward in search of a winner.

Kotoko, urged on by their home supporters, piled on the pressure and were eventually Rewarded in stoppage time. Captain Samba O’Neil kept his composure to slot home a decisive penalty, sealing all three points for the Reds.

The win moves Kotoko up to fifth place on the league table with 19 points — only two points behind the leaders — and still holding an outstanding match that could further tighten the title race.

Abu Francis set for weekend discharge after successful surgery in Japan – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

0

Abu Francis is set to be discharged from a Japan hospital this weekend following successful surgery, with Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum confirming that the midfielder’s condition has improved significantly.

The encouraging update comes as Francis continues to recover from the serious injury he sustained during last week’s international friendly against Japan.

Francis underwent the operation at Toyota Memorial Hospital after fracturing two bones in an awkward twist while attempting to block a shot early in the second half.

The GFA stated that the procedure was completed without complications, and the player immediately began the acute phase of his rehabilitation under close medical supervision.

Providing a detailed update, Asante Twum said: “Francis Abu’s condition has significantly improved. As anticipated, the surgery yielded excellent results, and the player’s spirits are high. The initial rehabilitation is proceeding as planned, and he is expected to be discharged this weekend.“

Francis was stretchered off during the match as teammates showed concern over the severity of the injury. A GFA official is expected to accompany him back to France after discharge.

The midfielder, who joined Toulouse from Cercle Brugge earlier this year, had earned a recall for the November friendlies after missing Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers in September and October.

He’s formidable, credible and most marketed – Abu Jinapor on why the NPP will retain Dr Bawumia as flagbearer

0

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

MP for Damongo and former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, John Abu Jinapor, has paid glowing tribute to the character and competence of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as he rallied the NPP to retain him as its Presidential Candidate.

Jinapor, who served under the erstwhile NPP administration as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, said on Good Evening Ghana with Paul Adom-Otchere that Dr Bawumia remains the best among the contenders to lead the NPP. He outlined his reasons for urging the party to retain him for victory in 2028.

“I have listened carefully to each one of the presidential candidates. They are people I know very well at the personal level, and I have listened to all of them carefully, and I have not been convinced as to why we should not present Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. I don’t have any credible or compelling reason why we should change Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said.

“And I believe that if we present him again for 2028 and rally behind him, he has a very strong chance of winning the 2028 elections,” Abu Jinapor added, reiterating his belief that the NPP will elect him as its presidential candidate.

“He is well marketed, he is formidable, he is credible; he is somebody you cannot associate with corruption or incompetence.”

On the January 31 primaries, Abu Jinapor expressed strong confidence that Dr Bawumia will emerge victorious because the NPP is poised to retain him for the reasons he has outlined.

“I am convinced that the party will support him come January 31, 2026, and I am convinced that the party will elect him because the party wants to win the 2028 election.”

“I am convinced—and that is the sentiment within the party—that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the man who is the most formidable, the most marketed, a strong candidate, and has national appeal. We have taken him once, and if we take him again and rally behind him in 2028, I believe that by the grace of Almighty God, the Ghanaian people will favour us and elect him as President of Ghana come 2029.”

Referencing history, the Damongo MP said both leading political parties—the NDC and the NPP—have supported their presidential candidates “over and over again until they won,” adding that the NPP will do likewise for Dr Bawumia.

Where’s Ken Ofori-Atta? – Majority to Afenyo-Markin

0

The Majority Caucus in Parliament has dismissed claims that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is seeking medical treatment abroad to avoid returning to Ghana to face prosecution for alleged corruption.

According to Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, although Mr. Ofori-Atta’s ill health was evident to the public during his tenure, he remained at post and carried out his duties under the previous administration.

He argued that it is therefore inaccurate for the Minority to assert that the former minister is now seeking medical care.

The Majority Leader rejected suggestions that MPs on his side were being insensitive, insisting that Mr. Ofori-Atta’s health has only become a topic of debate because he is required to answer questions about his stewardship.

Ayariga stated, “You are giving an impression that members on this side [Majority] are insensitive to the medical condition of Ken Ofori-Atta. Ken Ofori-Atta was very sick in this country. You could see the sickness in his face. But at that time, it was sweet to be a Finance Minister.”

He continued, “How come that, suddenly, because today he is being sought after by the law enforcement agencies, he cannot live in this country and is claiming illness? He was sick when he was the Finance Minister. We all saw it.”

The issue resurfaced when the Minister for Local Government, Ahmed Ibrahim, reminded the House of an earlier assurance from Afenyo-Markin that Mr. Ofori-Atta would return to Ghana by February 18. He demanded an update on the former minister’s whereabouts.

Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim said, “He [Afenyo-Markin] gave us authoritative information that by February 18, the honourable former Finance Minister was going to be in Ghana. So I’m saying, where is the former Finance Minister? Ministers of Finance who have occupied that office, after their tenure, remain in this country. Where is he?”

In response, Afenyo-Markin rejected claims that he had misled Parliament, explaining that Mr. Ofori-Atta had formally informed the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) of his medical condition and travel plans.

He said, “The records would bear me out. Ken Ofori-Atta had written to the Office of the Special Prosecutor, through his lawyers, that he was going to be in the country on or before May. Ken Ofori-Atta again indicated that he had been booked for surgery.”

Afenyo-Markin added that doctors later recommended additional recovery time after the surgery, prompting the former minister to provide further updates.

He urged MPs to show compassion, saying, “When it comes to ill health, all of us may go through it one way or the other. If a man is going through a serious medical condition, how many of us would be bold enough to disclose our medical records? But the man has disclosed his medical record.”

He criticised efforts to politicise the matter, stressing, “Let’s be fair to Ken Ofori-Atta. It can be you tomorrow.”

Parkoso Youth Storm Court, Call for Abusuapanyin’s Removal From Daddy Lumba Burial Plans

A new development has surfaced following the ongoing controversy surrounding the death of Ghanaian Highlife singer Charles Kwadwo Fosu, well known as Daddy Lumba.

The late singer’s family appeared before the Kumasi High Court on Friday, November 21, 2025, after his first wife, Akosua Serwaa, filed a lawsuit.

YEN.com.gh had earlier reported that Akosua filed a legal suit against the musician’s longtime partner, Odo Broni, asking the court to declare her (Akosua) the sole widow entitled to oversee the musician’s burial arrangements, among other demands.

The courtroom drama intensified tensions surrounding the legend’s passing and, for the public eye, displayed further allegations involving Lumba’s extended family.

Kofi Owusu, the Abusuapanyin of the late singer’s family, was accused of withdrawing GH₵30,000 from funeral contributions to pay hotel expenses during a stay in Accra.

During the court proceedings, members of the Parkoso community, where Daddy Lumba hailed from, staged a protest demanding that Abusuapanyin Owusu step down from all burial planning.

The aggrieved youth insisted that the late musician be buried in his hometown, Parkoso, and not elsewhere.

A community member identified as Yaw Obese said the Abusuapanyin was damaging the image of the late music legend and his hometown.

In his words:

“We are the people of Parkoso. Our presence today is not to cause trouble or fight, but to demand that the family head, Kofi Owusu, be removed from our Daddy Lumba’s burial preparations. We also demand that he should be buried at Parkoso because that is his birthplace.”

He added that the family head had claimed there was no land in Parkoso to bury the singer, which the community viewed as unacceptable.

“Abusuapanuin is tainting the community’s image for saying that there is no land here for his resting place. It is a lie. Because of this, we should not involve him in the funeral ceremony.”

Daddy Lumba, whose contribution to Ghanaian music spanned decades, passed away under yet-to-be-disclosed circumstances, leaving behind a complex legacy and now, a contentious battle over his final resting place.

Deloitte warns Ghana to ring-fence borrowing as govt eyes bond market return

0

Auditing firm Deloitte Ghana has urged the government to ring-fence its borrowing plans as it prepares to re-enter the domestic bond market, cautioning that the country’s recent gains in debt sustainability must not be eroded.

Deloitte believes Ghana’s improving credit ratings, stronger fiscal discipline, and declining debt-to-GDP ratio offer a rare opportunity to reset its debt strategy, but only if borrowing remains targeted, prudent, and anchored in long-term economic reforms.

Already, the government has recorded major progress in reducing public debt distress. According to Deloitte’s analysis of the 2026 Budget, domestic debt recorded a marginal growth of 0.4%, increasing from GHS 309.8 billion (Dec 2024) to GHS 311.0 billion (Oct 2025).

The slight increase was driven by continued issuance of Treasury securities to support budget execution.
External debt declined sharply by GHS 97.6 billion, reducing from GHS 416.8 billion in December 2024 to GHS 319.2 billion by October 2025, representing a 23.4% reduction.

This reduction was primarily due to appreciation of the Ghana Cedi, reduced external borrowing, and strong fiscal performance.

Deloitte notes that these improvements, alongside credit rating upgrades from Moody’s and Fitch, signal renewed confidence among international investors.

However, the firm warns that Ghana’s debt situation remains delicate and requires disciplined management to avoid slipping back into high-risk territory.

The firm, therefore, called on the government to prioritise concessional borrowing for large-scale infrastructure, climate-resilient projects, and social development, while avoiding expensive, short-term debt instruments that pose significant fiscal risks.

Deloitte recommends that any upcoming bond issuances be backed by clear repayment plans and commercial returns, particularly for state enterprises whose obligations have historically strained public finances.

It also encourages tighter coordination between the Finance Ministry, investors, and international partners when implementing debt buyback operations, stressing the importance of transparency and predictable engagement to prevent market disruptions.

Deloitte concludes that Ghana’s planned return to the bond market can be positive, but only if borrowing is “reinforced for financing self-paying projects” and domestic interest costs are strictly controlled.

This, the firm argues, is essential for improving fiscal discipline and safeguarding the country’s hard-won macroeconomic stability.

Minority criticises government’s short-term fixes

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Ranking Member on the Economic Committee of Parliament Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Ranking Member on the Economic Committee of Parliament

The New Patriotic Party Minority Caucus in Parliament has criticised the government’s economic policies, saying they are focused on short-term gains rather than sustainable growth amidst rising concerns about job creation and inflation.

The Parliamentarians were commenting on the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on the theme: “Resetting for Growth, Jobs, and Economic Transformation,” presented to parliament on Thursday, November 13, 2025, by Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Minister of Finance.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Ranking Member on the Economic Committee of Parliament, on Wednesday, questioned the government’s priorities, saying, “You don’t have fiscal space, but you have space to buy two new executive jets.”

Oppong Nkrumah, also the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayiribi, made the remarks when he commented on the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy on the Floor of Parliament.

He emphasised the need for structural reforms, saying, “Mr Speaker, if your revenue doesn’t perform, you won’t get the money to invest in it. If your revenue doesn’t perform and you don’t invest it in the things that will create jobs, the young people will come for you at the end of the day.”

He accused the government of allegedly relying too heavily on manual labor in road construction, rather than creating industrial jobs.

“Mr Speaker, almost five hundred thousand of the eight hundred thousand jobs announced in the budget are going to be manual labor on road budgets,” he stated.

Oppong Nkrumah called for a comprehensive approach to tackle Ghana’s economic challenges, focusing on the real sector, agriculture, and investments that drive growth, rather than short-term fixes.

Ahead of Sunday’s trip to Emirates, Spurs will be boosted by the return of the 25-year-old who also missed Ghana’s international friendlies against Japan and South Korea to fully recover from the knock.

Coach Thomas Frank will give a full update on the Ghanaian’s fitness at the pre-match presser for the game against Arsenal.

However, the former West Ham player was reportedly spotted with his teammates in training on Thursday, November 20, indicating he will be making the squad for the Arsenal match.

It will be Kudus’ first North London derby, with the Ghana international previously scoring against Arsenal during his time at West Ham.

‘Marine Police Equipped To Fight Coastline Insecurity’

The commissioned boats

FOUR STATE-of-the-art patrol boats have been handed over to the Ghana Police Service, Marine Police Unit, to help safeguard the coastline against security threats.

Speaking at the commissioning of the boats at the Tema Harbour last Wednesday, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, stated that the handing over of the patrol boats marks a significant milestone in the efforts to enhance maritime security and protect the country’s maritime interest.

He stated that the new patrol boats will undoubtedly strengthen the country’s Marine Police Unit’s capabilities, enabling them to effectively patrol the country’s waters, respond to emergencies and threats, thereby preventing maritime crimes to a large extent.

IGP Tetteh Yohuno emphasised that the boats will support the fight against transnational organised crime, such as human trafficking and drug trafficking, ensuring the safety of all citizens and visitors.

“This acquisition is a testament to the government’s commitment to supporting the Ghana Police Service with the requisite tools to guarantee the safety and security of our citizens, marking a significant investment in the nation’s maritime security infrastructure,” he stated.

The IGP further called for institutional collaboration to help in combating insecurities, noting that maritime security requires stronger inter agency collaboration.

Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, emphasised the profound importance of Ghana’s ‘blue economy’, which encompasses fisheries, tourism, and offshore energy as a “vital component of our national development strategy” with vast potential for sustainable economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction.

He stressed that urgency in providing protection along the coastline and its resources seek to ensure sustainable management to benefit citizens as well as preserve the health of the oceans.

“The Ghana Marine Police Unit plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order in our maritime domain, preventing piracy, and protecting our maritime resources. This new patrol boat will undoubtedly enhance the unit’s operational capacity,” he said.

The Interior Minister said the new patrol boats are earmarked for a variety of critical functions, including surveillance, patrolling, as well as search and rescue operations, emphasising how these new assets will empower the Marine Police to effectively combat maritime threats.

Mr. Muntaka reiterated the commitment of the government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, to “transforming Ghana’s security landscape through innovative initiatives, inclusivity, and community engagement.” He described a secure maritime environment as “essential for our nation’s economic development and prosperity.”

Unemployed trained teachers question Education Minister’s announcement of 6,100 recruitments

0

The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT) has expressed disappointment over Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu’s announcement that government will recruit only 6,100 teachers this year.

In a statement dated 20th November 2025, the group said the figure is far below what the Minister announced in Parliament earlier in June.

According to CUTT, the Minister assured MPs on 25th June that government had made budgetary provisions to recruit 50,000 teachers in 2025.

The coalition represents more than 17,000 College of Education graduates who completed their training in 2023 but remain unemployed. Members say the new figure has increased their frustration and uncertainty.

CUTT said its members held a peaceful demonstration on Wednesday to demand mass recruitment of all qualified graduates.

The group insists that every trained teacher deserves the opportunity to work in the public basic school system, adding that the Minister’s latest announcement has created confusion and concern among graduates.

The coalition is asking the Minister to explain the criteria that will be used to select the 6,100 teachers.

They questioned whether the process will follow a fair and transparent protocol or whether many qualified graduates will be left out.

CUTT described the situation as unprecedented, saying it is the first time such a large number of trained teachers have been left unemployed after completing their training.

They also responded to comments reportedly made by the Minister, who referred to them as “striking teachers” and suggested they return for verification.

CUTT clarified that they are not striking teachers, but unemployed trained graduates seeking employment.

The group is demanding that the Minister prioritise the mass recruitment of all 2023 graduates and provide a clear roadmap for their employment within two weeks.

They warned that they will return to the streets if their concerns are not addressed.

The coalition says it expects its members to begin work in January, at the start of the second term.

No DNA test has been done yet – Family of late Samuel Aboagye refutes reports [Listen]

0

The family of the late Samuel Aboagye, one of the eight victims of the August 6 helicopter crash, has clarified that no DNA test has yet been conducted to determine the paternity of Aboagye’s child.

Shortly after Samuel Aboagye’s death, rumors circulated that his wife had refused to present their child for DNA testing, which was intended to assist in identifying Aboagye’s body.

This fueled speculation that the child might not be his. Later, reports emerged claiming the DNA test had been completed and that Aboagye’s wife had been vindicated.

However, Nana Dwamena Kwabena Yiakwan II, brother of the deceased, told Adom News that the family has not undertaken any DNA test and that the circulating reports are false.

He expressed surprise at the rumors and emphasized that the family has no one to suspect for spreading such claims.

He further noted that a court ruling scheduled for December 23, 2025, will determine the next steps.

“The DNA test will only be conducted after the court proceedings. All current media speculations are unfounded,” he added.

UN climate summit drops mention of fossil fuels from draft deal

0

All mention of fossil fuels, by far the largest contributor to climate change, has been dropped from the draft deal under negotiation as the COP30 UN climate talks in Belém, Brazil enter their final stretch.

Draft agreements at the meeting of nearly 200 countries usually go through multiple revisions as all parties must agree in order for a deal to pass.

Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and some countries including the UK want the summit to commit countries to stronger, faster action to reduce their use of fossil fuels.

An earlier text included three possible routes to achieve this, but that language has now been dropped after opposition from oil-producing nations.

A group of countries including the UK have published a letter rejecting the new draft deal.

“We express deep concern regarding the current proposal under consideration for a take it or leave it,” it said.

“We cannot support an outcome that does not include a roadmap for implementing a just, orderly and equitable transition away from fossil fuels.”

A source close to the negotiations said that Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations are blocking the fossil fuel deal. The BBC has approached Saudi Arabia for comment.

French Environment Minister Monique Barbut said the deal is being blocked by “oil-producing countries – Russia, India, Saudi Arabia, but joined by many emerging countries.”

She suggested that small island nations may agree to a weaker deal on fossil fuels if they secured more finance to adapt to the changes in their countries caused by rising temperatures.

On France’s position she said:”At this point, even if we don’t have the roadmap, but at least a mention of the fossil fuels, I think we would accept it. But as it stands now, we have nothing left.”

Dropping the language is likely to be a negotiating tactic to raise the temperature at the talks and force countries to come to agreement.

The meeting is a fraught and delicate diplomatic process as countries jostle to protect their national interests, while also attempting to address the issue of climate change.

Some observers question the value of the complex, legalistic talks which almost always over-run.

But others point to the significant advances in measures to tackle climate change, including renewable energy, electric vehicles, and protection of nature in recent years linked to COP agreements.

Other issues discussed at the COP include the gap in climate finance promised by richer nations to developing nations that are most impacted by climate change.

The new draft deal called for global efforts to triple financing available to countries by 2030.

But it did not say if this should come from richer nations or from other sources, like the private sector.

This could anger poorer countries who want stronger support from richer nations and heavily criticised a deal at last year’s COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, which they considered paltry.

Deforestation has been been a fraught issue at the meeting, which takes place on the edge of the Brazilian Amazon.

The new draft also weakened language around tackling deforestation.

“For a COP hosted in the Amazon, it’s shattering that deforestation is taking a back seat,” said Kelly Dent, Director of External Engagement for World Animal Protection.

“The wildlife and indigenous people who call the forest their home deserve better than this.”

The two-week meeting has been interrupted by two evacuations.

Last week a group of protesters broke into the COP venue in Belém carrying signs reading “Our forests are not for sale”.

On Thursday a fire broke out, burning a hole through the sheeting covering the venue and causing 13 smoke inhalation injuries. The summit was evacuated and closed for at least six hours.

The summit has been praised for including the largest number yet of delegates from indigenous groups.

Abu Jinapor outlines 5 reasons why Bawumia remains the best man for NPP

0

Member of Parliament for Damongo and former lands and natural resources Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor has made a compelling case for the retention of former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2028 election.

In an interview with Paul Adom Otchere on Good Evening Ghana on Thursday, November 20, 2025, the MP said he decided to remain supportive of Dr Bawumia’s candidature after a careful assessment of the situation the NPP finds itself in, as well as messages of all the aspirants.

NPP Primaries: Dr Bawumia receives widespread endorsements in Central Region

“I have listened carefully to each one of the Presidential candidates. They are people I know very well at the personal level, and I have listened to all of them carefully, and I have not been convinced as to why we should not present Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. I don’t have any credible and compelling reason why we should change Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said.

He then gave a number of reasons why he believes Dr Bawumia is the best person to lead the NPP to victory in 2028, urging the party to rally behind him, just as both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and NPP did for the late Prof Mills, Nana Akufo-Addo and John Dramani Mahama.

“He is well marketed, he is formidable, he is credible, he is somebody you cannot associate with anything corruption or incompetence.”

“And I believe that if we present him again for 2028 and we rally behind him, I believe he has a very great, strong chance of winning the 2028 elections,” Abu Jinapor added, reiterating his belief that the NPP will elect him as its presidential candidate.

22 out of 25 Assin South electoral area coordinators declare support for Dr Bawumia

“I am convinced that the party will support him come January 31, 2026, and I am convinced that the party will elect him because the party wants to win the 2028 election.”

“And I am convinced and that is the sentiment within the party that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the man who is the most formidable, the most marketed, a string candidate and has a national appeal. Tax stamps to curb smuggling of palm oil, textiles and others

The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has lauded the government’s decision to introduce tax stamps on palm and edible oils, textiles, beverages, and other products.

The move was described as a bold step to curb smuggling and protect local industries.

In a press release shared with GhanaWeb Business, GFL Secretary General Abraham Koomson noted that smuggling has long distorted fair competition, reduced government revenue, and weakened job security for Ghanaian workers.

He added that the new tax stamp regime, if well-designed and digitally verifiable, would safeguard domestic manufacturers, ensure product quality, and create a level playing field for businesses without imposing excessive compliance costs on small and medium enterprises.

Government to introduce tax stamp regime for refined edible oils – Ato Forson

“Smuggling has undermined local industries for years. A transparent and verifiable tax stamp system, combined with tighter border controls, can restore fairness, protect jobs, and strengthen government revenue,” Koomson said.

He further commended the government’s broader tax reforms, including the reduction of the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate, scrapping of the COVID-19 levy, and the extension of zero-VAT support for key industries such as textiles. According to him, these measures will ease the cost of doing business and boost competitiveness.

Koomson’s comments follow the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, revealing during the 2026 budget presentation that the government will roll out a tax stamp regime for refined edible oils.

The initiative is expected to enhance tax compliance, eliminate under-declaration of goods, which costs the country millions of cedis annually, and protect domestic producers.

Dr Forson explained that the reforms will not only help Ghana achieve self-sufficiency but also build an export-ready downstream crude palm oil sector that adds value and creates jobs.

Under the framework, the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) will serve as lead regulator, overseeing licensing, production planning, and data management.

The Oil Palm Research Institute (OPRI) will develop high-yield, climate-resilient palm varieties, while the Oil Palm Development Association of Ghana (OPDAG) will drive industry coordination and public-private dialogue.

Government estimates that the policy could reduce imports of over $200 million worth of oil annually and create about 250,000 jobs, providing a major boost to Ghana’s industrialisation agenda.

Nigerian Igbo Culture-Inspired Bridal Outfits Gain Rising Popularity

0

Nigerian Igbo culture-inspired bridal outfits are experiencing a resurgence in popularity as brides across West Africa and the diaspora embrace traditional aesthetics infused with modern fashion trends. Known for their rich symbolism, vibrant colors, and regal embellishments, Igbo bridal looks continue to stand out as some of the most elegant cultural wedding styles on the continent.

One of the most iconic elements of Igbo bridal attire is the George fabric, often heavily embroidered with gold or multicolored patterns. Brides typically style this fabric as a wrapper skirt paired with a fitted blouse, creating a look that blends grace with cultural authenticity. In recent years, designers have introduced contemporary variations, including corseted blouses, off-shoulder designs, and mermaid-inspired silhouettes made entirely from George or lace-infused George fabric.

The Isi Agu, a velvet fabric known for its lion-head motif, also features prominently, especially in themed traditional weddings where both bride and groom coordinate outfits. While traditionally worn by men, modern brides have begun incorporating Isi Agu patterns into stylish blouses, capes, and even full-length gowns, adding a bold cultural statement to their ensemble.

Accessories remain pivotal in Igbo bridal styling. Coral beads, symbolic of royalty, purity, and wealth are worn as necklaces, wrist beads, and headpieces. The okpu agu (coral bead crown) continues to be a striking element, heightening the regal presence of the bride. Many brides also complement their outfits with hand fans adorned with feathers, beads, or personalized embroidery.

Makeup and hair choices are equally important, with many opting for soft glam looks paired with traditional hairstyles such as the isi-uku, braided patterns adorned with beads and gold pins.

With the influence of social media, Igbo bridal fashion is now reaching worldwide audiences, inspiring designers globally to recreate and reinterpret the iconic styles. As more brides celebrate their heritage through fashion, Igbo culture continues to shine as a symbol of elegance, pride, and timeless beauty in African weddings.

Police launch manhunt for man who gave child cigarette in viral video

0

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a viral video showing a man allegedly giving a substance believed to be a cigarette to a child.

According to the police, every effort is being made to identify and arrest the suspect involved and to ensure that the child is safe and protected.

They also urged members of the public who have any information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the man or the child to report to the nearest Police Station.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has condemned the act and cautioned parents, guardians, caregivers, and the public to uphold their collective responsibility in protecting children and young people from harm.

In a press statement dated Friday, November 21, the Ministry described the incident as a clear case of child endangerment, noting that exposing children to harmful substances is both abusive and a violation of the child’s rights and dignity. The statement emphasized that such conduct is punishable under the law.

According to the Ministry, the act contravenes the Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560), which mandates the protection of every child from physical, psychological, and moral harm. It also undermines objectives in the Early Childhood Care and Development Policy, which promotes the holistic development of children in safe and nurturing environments.

‘World’s laziest man’ crowned in China after winning ‘bed rotting’ contest

A man was declared the “world’s laziest man” after 240 people took part in a “bed rotting” competition in the middle of a shopping mall in China.

Competitors were motionless for hours in a “lie flat” contest in Batou, Inner Mongolia, in China.

Footage shows the contestants lying down on mattresses as they tried to outlast each other, with many wearing nappies.

Everyone was given a mattress to lie on and they were allowed to turn over, use their mobile phones, read books and order takeaways.

They were strictly prohibited from sitting up, leaving the mattress and going to the toilet.

Many brought their own blankets, power banks and food so they could stay as long as possible without tapping out.

This is not the competition’s first edition. It was the third edition of the event and was organised by a home-furnishings brand.

The organisers said that there was no fixed end time for the contest and it would continue until the last three winners were determined.

By the 24-hour mark, a total of 186 contestants had quit, with 54 still lying flat.

The champion lasted another 8 hours – a total of 33 hours and 35 minutes – until a winner emerged and was then crowned.

The winner, a man, also received CNY 3,000 (£323) for becoming the “world’s laziest man”.

Meanwhile, Haaland is in blistering form, having scored 14 goals and provided one assist in 11 matches, with many pundits rating him among the best strikers in Europe.

Majority and Minority leaders clash over continued absence of Ken Ofori-Atta

0

A heated exchange erupted on the floor of Parliament on Friday, November 21, 2025, as the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, and the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, clashed over the continued absence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who is expected to return to the country to face investigations into alleged corruption-linked contracts, including the GRA–SML deal and the National Cathedral project.

OSP formally charges Ken Ofori-Atta, seven others with 78 counts

The exchange began when the Minister of Local Government, Ahmed Ibrahim, reminded the House of an earlier assurance from the Minority Leader that the former minister would return to Ghana by February 18, 2025.

He pressed for an update, questioning why Ofori-Atta had still not appeared.

“He gave us authoritative information that by February 18, 2025, the honourable former Finance Minister was going to be in Ghana. So, I’m saying, where is the former Finance Minister?

“I thought you were going to tell us his whereabouts. Ministers of Finance who have occupied that office, after their tenure, remain in this country. Where is he?” he quizzed.

In response, Afenyo-Markin rejected suggestions that he had misled the House.

He explained that Ofori-Atta had formally notified the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) about his medical condition and plans for travel.

“The records would bear me out… Ken Ofori-Atta had written to the OSP, through his lawyers, that he was going to be in the country on or before May… Ken Ofori-Atta again indicated that he had been booked for surgery.

“When it comes to ill health… all of us may go through it one way or the other. If a man is going through a serious medical condition, how many of us would be bold enough to disclose our medical records? But the man has disclosed his medical record,” he noted.

The Member of Parliament for Effutu also condemned attempts to politicise Ofori-Atta’s situation.

How Ken Ofori-Atta and ex-GRA boss allegedly forced through SML deal

“Let’s be fair to Ken Ofori-Atta. It can be you tomorrow,” he remarked.

But the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, pushed back sharply, insisting that MPs were not being insensitive.

He argued that Ofori-Atta’s health concerns had only become a matter of national debate because he was required to account for his stewardship.

“You are giving an impression that members on this side are insensitive to the medical condition of Ken Ofori-Atta… Ken Ofori-Atta was very sick in this country. You could see the sickness in his face. But at that time, it was sweet to be a Finance Minister.

“How come that suddenly, because today he is being sought after by the law enforcement agencies, he cannot live in this country and is claiming illness? He was sick when he was the Finance Minister. We all saw it,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the OSP has announced that it will arraign eight accused persons, including Ken Ofori-Atta, before the court on Monday, November 24, 2025.

He has formally charged Ofori-Atta, along with seven other individuals, with a total of 78 counts of corruption and corruption-related offences.

AGI at Crossroads: Why the Association Needs a Vibrant Leader Like Ralph Ayitey to Clean Up the Mess

0

Img Wa
Img Wa

As the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) prepares for its pivotal election on November 27, 2025, the stakes could not be higher. Once a powerhouse in shaping Ghana’s industrial future, AGI today is perceived by many as a chessboard for political maneuvering, diminishing in influence, direction, and integrity.

For an institution that was once the standard-bearer for Ghana’s industrial aspirations, this decline raises difficult questions: What went wrong? Was it weak leadership, flawed governance structures, or a drift from its founding mission? Whatever the cause, the sense among many industry actors is that AGI has lost its way, and now more than ever, the association needs a housecleaning, a restoration, and above all, a visionary at the helm.

Enter Ralph M. K. Ayitey, CEO of Coconut Grove Hotels, national treasurer of AGI, and a seasoned hotelier-industrialist. Across the board, industry players are mounting a growing call for his leadership. They believe that under Ayitey the AGI can be revived, not just to its former glory, but to become a stronger, more credible voice in national policy.

*Why Ralph Ayitey Stands Out*

1. Proven Business Strategist with Local and International Reach
Ralph Ayitey has demonstrated exceptional acumen in the hospitality sector. As CEO of Coconut Grove Hotels, a group with properties in Accra, Elmina, and Obuasi, he has navigated complex economic terrain to maintain growth and relevance.

In response to macroeconomic improvements, notably the strengthening of the Ghanaian cedi and falling inflation, Ayitey led Coconut Grove to reduce rates by between 15% and 30%, putting value back into the hands of customers and reaffirming his commitment to accessibility and social responsibility.

2. Advocate for Local Industry and Economic Self-Reliance
Deeply committed to Ghana’s industrial heritage, Ayitey has consistently called for stronger support for local producers. He has urged hoteliers to source food locally, notably poultry from Ghanaian farmers, a move that would help reduce reliance on imports and strengthen domestic value chains.

He has pushed for “patient capital”: long-term financing (e.g., 10-15 years at moderate interest rates) to help businesses invest, grow, and innovate.

3. Thought Leader on National Economic Policy
Beyond hospitality, Ayitey speaks forcefully on broader economic issues. He has stressed the importance of civic education and deliberate policy to restore respect for the cedi, describing the currency not merely as a medium of exchange, but as a symbol of national identity.

His call for a world-class hospitality training institute underscores a long-term vision: building local capacity, nurturing talent, and addressing the skills gap in Ghana’s tourism and hospitality sectors.

4. Respected within Industry Circles
Ayitey’s leadership has not gone unnoticed. In 2023, the Ghana Hotels Association honoured him at the “Ayekoo Dinner Night” for his resilience, crisis management, and sustained excellence in service delivery.

Within AGI, his credentials are equally impressive: he holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing (Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK) and a Diploma in Tourism & Travel Agency Management (Cambridge, UK).

He has held key roles in AGI: former Sector Chairman for Hospitality and Tourism, and now treasurer, reflecting deep institutional knowledge and continuity.

*The Crisis at AGI: What Needs to Change*

AGI today is perceived by many as a weakened body, diluted in its mission, susceptible to external political influence, and lacking bold industrial advocacy. For an association whose voice once shaped national industrial strategy, that is a worrying decline.

Critics argue that prior leadership has failed to break through structural inertia. They warn that electing another figurehead, or worse yet, a populist choice, risks deepening the malaise rather than reversing it.

What AGI needs now is cleaning, healing, and a return to transparency and vision. It needs to reconnect with its founding role: an honest broker between government and industry, a defender of Ghanaian entrepreneurs, and a champion of policy that empowers local enterprise, not global importers.

*A Call to Action: Why AGI Should Elect Ralph Ayitey*

*Credible Stewardship:* With proven leadership in business and public advocacy, Ayitey is uniquely positioned to steward AGI through this critical juncture.

*Institutional Memory + Vision:* His long tenure in the hospitality industry and within AGI gives him both the historical insight and the fresh perspective needed for reform.

*Policy Depth:* Ayitey doesn’t just run a business, he understands economic policy, structural reform, and industrial strategy.

Local First Mindset: His advocacy for sourcing locally, investing in training, and building capacity demonstrates a commitment to Ghana’s development, not just profit.

*The Time to Act Is Now*

The November 27 AGI elections are not a mere formality — they are a fork in the road. Electing the wrong leader could entrench malaise, weaken the association’s relevance, and squander the trust of industry actors who yearn for meaningful change. But choosing Ralph Ayitey would be a signal: a signal that AGI is serious about reform, about reclaiming its voice, and about building an industrial future that is locally rooted, globally competitive, and ethically sound.

AGI members, industry giants, and stakeholders: your vote matters. This is the moment to rally behind a leader whose credentials are sterling, whose vision is clear, and whose commitment to Ghana’s industrial renaissance is unwavering.

Let Ralph Ayitey lead. Let AGI be reborn. Let Ghana’s industrial promise be fulfilled.
