The Young Parliamentarian’s Forum, as part of its project to tour all 276 constituencies in Ghana, began its first visit to the Ashaiman ghetto.
The purpose of the visit was to educate and sensitize the youth particularly those in the ghettos on mental health and the devastating effects of opioid addiction, as well as to explore how best the team can support them.
The President of the Forum, Jocelyn Quarshie, together with the Vice President, Hon. Davis Ansah Opoku, said the visit was not just an educational outreach but a step towards real change.
They stressed the importance of connecting directly with the youth to understand their struggles and find practical solutions.
Madam Jocelyn encouraged the young people to stay away from drugs, noting that drug abuse only leads to destruction. “It’s time to take charge of your future and make better choices,” she advised.
Deputy Clinical Psychologist to Parliament, Mrs. Patricia Benson Gaskin touched on the effects of drug abuse and outlined available support mechanisms.
Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, Freeman Tsekpo commended the team for the initiative they have undertaken and appreciated their decision to engage with the youth in the ghettos.
He expressed excitement about the team’s willingness to descend to the level of the “ghetto boys” to interact with them. “We are excited that the team is willing to help create opportunities for these young people to earn a living and find meaningful work,” he said.
Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault by the Metropolitan Police Service.
The police said the offenses, which they say happened between 2021 and 2022, relate to two counts of rape of one woman, three counts of rape of a second woman, and a count of sexual assault of a third woman.
The force, which covers the 32 boroughs of Greater London, added that the investigation was opened in February 2022 when police first received a report of rape.
Partey, 32, will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Aug. 5.
Partey joined Arsenal in a £45 million ($61.42m) transfer from Spanish club Atlético Madrid in 2020. He has been a free agent since his Arsenal contract ended Monday.
“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward,” detective superintendent Andy Furphy, whose team is leading the investigation, said in a statement.
“We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team. You can contact detectives about this investigation by emailing [email protected].”
The Ghana international made 35 Premier League appearances last season, scoring four goals as the north London club finished second in the Premier League.
He also made 12 appearances during Arsenal’s run to the semifinals of the Champions League before they were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain.
“The Crown Prosecution Service [CPS] has today authorised the prosecution of Thomas Partey for multiple counts of rape — after carefully reviewing a comprehensive file of evidence,” chief crown prosecutor for CPS London north, Jaswant Narwal, said in a statement.
“Our prosecutors have worked closely with officers in the Metropolitan Police who have carried out the investigation, to review the evidence and advise on the appropriate charges.
“We remind everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.
“We know there will be significant public interest in this announcement, but it is absolutely vital that there is no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the No Fees Stress Policy, a government initiative aimed at removing financial barriers to tertiary education by covering academic-related fees for all first-year students entering public institutions.
Speaking at the launch in Koforidua on Friday, July 4, 2025, the president described the move as a transformative step toward ensuring equitable access to higher education for every Ghanaian student.
“This policy is not about welfare; it is about fairness. It is about restoring dignity to the Ghanaian student. Let it be known across this land that from today, no Ghanaian child will be denied entry into tertiary education simply because they cannot afford academic fees,” he stated.
The initiative covers public universities, technical universities, teacher training colleges, and nursing training institutions and begins with the 2025 academic year. It complements other financial aid schemes, including the Student Loan Trust Fund and monthly trainee allowances.
President Mahama noted that over 150,000 students have accessed the policy’s application portal so far, with 15,000 already receiving their payments.
“So far, 50,000 students have accessed the portal. For those of you who have not yet done so, you better start now. Out of this number, 34,500 have been validated and are awaiting payment, and as of yesterday, 15,000 students have already received payment alerts,” he added.
The No Fees Stress Policy is aimed at easing the financial burden of tertiary education and improving access for students from diverse backgrounds.

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced a significant breakthrough in Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector with the formal submission of the Declaration of Commerciality (DoC) for the Eban and Akoma discoveries in the Cape Three Points Block 4 (CTP-B4).
The DoC, submitted on July 3, 2025, by Joint Venture (JV) partners—Eni Ghana Exploration & Production Ltd, Vitol Upstream Tano Ltd, Woodfields Upstream Ghana Ltd, and GNPC Exploration & Production Company Ltd (Explorco)—in collaboration with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), marks a major step toward unlocking new energy sources.
The declaration follows the successful completion of the Eban-Akoma Appraisal Programme, in accordance with the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Act, 2016 (Act 919) and the CTP-B4 Petroleum Agreement. The appraisal confirmed the commercial viability of hydrocarbons in the Eban-1X (oil) and Akoma-1X (gas and condensate) wells.
Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, hailed the development as a milestone in Ghana’s quest for energy security and industrial transformation.
“The Declaration of Commerciality for the Eban-Akoma discoveries is a major boost to our oil and gas sector. It highlights the immense potential of our offshore resources to fuel economic transformation, enhance energy security, and drive Ghana’s industrialisation agenda. We commend the JV Partners and GNPC for their dedication to this strategic national asset,” the Minister stated.
Following the declaration, the JV Partners will begin work on a comprehensive Plan of Development (PoD), which aims to ensure optimal resource recovery, value creation, and strong local content participation in line with national policy objectives.
The Ministry, in collaboration with the Petroleum Commission and GNPC, will maintain oversight and support throughout the process to ensure the project’s alignment with government priorities. Further technical and commercial assessments are expected as part of efforts to finalise a robust and mutually beneficial development framework.
This milestone affirms the government’s commitment to building a transparent, resilient, and investor-friendly energy sector that delivers sustainable value to the Ghanaian people.

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to do everything within his power to ensure the implementation of the recommendations made by the National Constitution Review Committee.
Speaking at the Post-2024 Elections Evaluation Dialogue organised by the National Peace Council in Koforidua on Friday, July 4, President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to deepening Ghana’s democratic processes and safeguarding national unity.
He emphasised the importance of the constitution review process in advancing governance reforms and strengthening the country’s democratic institutions.
“As President of the Republic, I reaffirm my unwavering commitment to strengthening our democracy, preserving our peace and upholding the dignity of every Ghanaian. Let me assure that I will do everything in my strength and power to ensure that the recommendations of the national constitutional review committee are implemented,” he stated.
Key issues dominating the CRC’s public engagement nationwide included proposals to lower the minimum age for presidential candidates to 30 or 35 and introduce a maximum age cap, as part of efforts to promote inclusive and forward-looking leadership.
Participants also want a clear separation of powers by abolishing the practice of appointing Members of Parliament as ministers to strengthen legislative oversight. Other major concerns being raised are the restructuring of the Council of State to enhance its relevance, redefining the role of chiefs within an elective local governance system, boosting women’s political participation through targeted incentives, and empowering anti-corruption agencies with greater independence and resources to function effectively.
The CRC, established by President John Dramani Mahama in January 2025 as part of his campaign pledge, is currently soliciting views and recommendations from citizens, institutions, and civil society organizations across the country.
With a six-month mandate, the committee is tasked with reviewing Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, addressing gaps, and providing actionable recommendations to the government. The exercise also includes revisiting earlier works, such as the 2010 Constitution Review Commission and the 2023 Constitution Review Consultative Committee.

President John Dramani Mahama has called for urgent investigations into how Electoral Commission (EC) ballot papers and other sensitive election materials end up in unauthorised hands during general elections.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Post-Election Conference organised by the National Peace Council in Koforidua, President Mahama said the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process must be protected at all levels.
President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his call for swift justice over the violence recorded during the 2024 general elections, directing the Inspector General of Police to urgently conclude investigations and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Post-2024 Elections Evaluation Dialogue organised by the National Peace Council in Koforidua, President Mahama stressed the importance of swift action in holding perpetrators accountable and restoring public trust in Ghana’s democratic process.
“The IGP, expedite investigations into these acts of electoral violence and bring the perpetrators to justice. The Attorney General is also working on a report to be presented to Cabinet for adequate compensation to be paid to victims and relatives of those affected by the violence,” the President stated.
The dialogue session, aimed at reviewing the conduct of the 2024 elections and strengthening mechanisms to prevent future electoral disturbances, brought together political actors, civil society organisations, and peace-building stakeholders.
President Mahama further highlighted the positive impact of the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act, 2019 (Act 999), which was passed to curb the rise of politically affiliated violence. He said the disbandment of vigilante groups has played a significant role in reducing politically motivated attacks during elections.
“The disbandment of party vigilante groups through the passage of the Vigilantism and Related Offenses Act, 2019 (Act 999) was a step in the right direction that has helped to reduce politically motivated violence to some extent,” he added.
This is not the first time President Mahama has demanded swift action over electoral violence. His latest call comes amid renewed public demand for transparency and justice following violent incidents at several polling stations and collation centres during the 2024 elections—some of which resulted in injuries and loss of lives.
President Mahama assured the nation that his administration will not condone impunity and will work to provide redress for victims as part of ongoing electoral and security sector reforms.

Ghanaian actor and filmmaker LilWin has stated that he had to take a $400,000 loan to complete his upcoming movie, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
He also revealed that the total production cost amounted to about $500,000.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, LilWin revealed that producing his Captain Ibrahim Traoré movie was so financially demanding that he had to find support.
“Captain Ibrahim Traoré movie took every ounce of effort, money and support I could gather. It has been very financially demanding. I had to take out a loan of about $400,000 in addition to my own money and help from others, bringing the total to around $500,000,” he said.
He pointed out that many people often doubt the amount of money filmmakers in Ghana claim to spend on their projects.
According to him, filmmaking in Ghana also has high costs, like in Nigeria and Western countries.
“When it comes to film-making in Africa, especially in Ghana, we work with specific budgets. Unfortunately, many people do not believe us when we mention how much our movies cost, but it is the truth. Just as in Nigeria, where some films cost about $1 million to produce, or in the West, where a single movie can cost as much as $30 million or more, we also invest heavily here,” he said.
LilWin also shared what it takes for an African film to gain international attention. He believes that telling stories rooted in African culture is key.
“If you want your movie to be accepted internationally, you cannot just tell any story. It has to be rich in African culture, our history, our traditions and our folklore. That is why I focus on African stories that showcase who we are,” he added.

Business mogul and Chairman of the McDan Group, Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, has shared a candid perspective on job recruitment, emphasising the power of referrals over conventional applications.
In a Facebook post sighted by MyNewsGh, McDan noted that while qualifications and polished CVs have their place, a trusted recommendation often trumps them.
“It’s an uncomfortable but necessary truth that we need to address,” he began. “Referrals would get you into places you would have stood no chance if you applied normally.
“It sounds cliché, but that’s the candid truth. A referral for a job isn’t just a lead; it’s a vote of confidence,” he wrote.
McDan, who oversees multiple subsidiaries under the McDan Group, explained that in an era where tools like ChatGPT make it easy for anyone to produce a flawless résumé or cover letter, recruiters are increasingly relying on trusted endorsements to cut through the noise.
“A lot of recruiters sift through countless applications, even for niche roles, only to end up with a pile of candidates who look great on paper but miss the mark in real life,” he wrote. “But you know what can’t be faked? Trust.”
He emphasised that a referral from someone credible is often the deciding factor in who gets shortlisted or hired.
According to him, while nepotism can open doors, it is trust, performance, and value that keep those doors open.
“Real trust, the kind that sustains a career, comes from consistently doing great work, showing up with integrity, and becoming undeniably valuable,” McDan added.
“One referral can change your life forever. That’s why you need to put yourself out there as much as you can, tell people about what you do, because it’s not always about what you know, but what people believe you know,” urging job seekers to actively promote their skills and network.

Di court don order di Senate to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan back to her legislative duties.
Justice Binta Nyako of di Federal High Court for di judgement tok say her six months suspension dey too much.
According to di section 14(2) of di Privileges Act of di Senate, suspension dey in default.
Di judgement add say constituents no suppose dey witout representation and make Senate review dia laws on suspensions.
Meanwhile, court bin find Senator Natasha in contempt of court, sake of di satirical apology wey she bin post for her Facebook page.
Justice Binta Nyako fine am five million naira ($3,266), wey she go pay into di court registry.
Court also order her to publish a formal apology for her Facebook page and for two national newspapers.
She must to do dis within seven days of did ruling.
How di judgement happen
Justice Binta Nyako first rule on di issue of contempt of court against Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan, sake of di facebook fake apology wey she bin make.
Di Judge rule say she find di senator guilty of civil contempt not criminal contempt.
She say she bin don order both parties make dem no make any further comment for di matter since e don dey bifor di court, but Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan still go ahead to make di facebook post.
Nyako say Natasha owe di court apology not di senate, and dat na why she go pay di N5 million fine into di court registry, and di apologies go dey directed to di court.
On di issue of suspension, Justice Nyako agree say di Senate get power to discipline dia member, however, di six months suspension wey dem give Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan “dey excessive” and e deprive her constituents of representation.
She say di provisions of Chapter 8 of di Senate Standing Rules and section 14 of di Legislative Houses, Powers & Privileges Act, dey overreaching, bicos e no specify di maximum period wey dem fit suspend a serving lawmaker from office.
According to di trial judge, lawmakers get a total of 181 days to sit for each legislative year, so if you minus weekends and public holidays, e go be say senator Akpoti-Uduaghan go don dey suspended for almost all di period wey she suppose carry out her responsibilities to her constituents.
“A suspension no fit pass di requisite number of days wey a member dey expected to sit. To suspend a member for six months mean to suspend her for 180 days… I no think say dis na di intention of di framers of di law,” she tok.
Since di senate rule no specify di number of days wey a member fit dey suspended, di Judge tok say “di senate can, and i believe should recall di plaintiff, and allow her to continue to represent di pipo who send her dia to reprsent dem”.
However, di court tok say Senate President Godswill Akpabio no dey wrong as e deny Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan di chance to speak during plenary bicos she bin no dey for di seat wey dem allocate to her.
“If as alleged, say di Senator bin no dey for di seat allocated to her, den by operation of di senate rules, she no fit tok until she move to her allocated seat, no matter how urgent or sudden di privilege is,” di Judge rule.
“Consequently, for as long as di plaintiff bin no dey speak from di seat allocated to her, di second and third defendant no fit take any step for di plaintiff matter, bicos she neva comply wit di senate rules.”
Justice Nyako also dismiss wetin Akpabio lawyer bin argue, saying dat di court no get jurisdiction to entertain di matter bicos na internal affair of di Senate wey be an independent arm of goment.
She say since di matter concern di enforcement of di fundamental rights of di plaintiff, so di court get jurisdiction to hear am.
In conclusion, Justice Nyako say as far as she dey concerned, “dia is no winner no vanquished for dis matter, dat na di end of my decision”.
Wetin go happen next
Already di counsel to di Senate, Paul Daudu SAN don claim victory for di matter and e tell tori pipo say dem go study di text of di judgement to know wetin next to do.
E tok say wetin di court do na wetin dem dey call “obiter dictum” for legal grammer, which mean to say na opinion wey di judge give say di suspension dey excessive.
“We go read di judgement, consult wit our client and know wetin next to do,” Daudu tok.
Di lawyers to Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan say dem no wan tok to tori pipo, so e never dey clear which step dem go take, but dia facial expression for court afta di judgement be like say dem no get joy.
However, activist Aisha Yesufu, who dey usually come court to support Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, say she dey disappointed wit di court decision.
“Di same senate wey bin no listen to di court order not to go ahead wit di hearing and suspension, na di same senate wey di court don give power now for dem to recall her. How?” Yesufu ask.
Brief Background
Na for February 2025 kasala bin happun for di National Assembly between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Natasha.
Akpabio bin give order make di Sergeant-at-Arms carry Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan comot from di chamber afta she refuse to go to di seat wey dem allocate for her, and she dey para for di senate chamber.
She accuse Akpabio say im deliberately wan silence her voice and also deny her opportunity to contribute to motions.
Di senator say di senate president just dey “discriminate against me, malign me, and dehumanise me”.
Afta di drama, di senate accuse Natasha of breaking dia rules as she disobey di order to relocate to her new seat.
Di matter go bifor di senate committee on ethics, privileges and public petitions, but Natasha refuse to appear bifor di committee bicos she say she don carry di matter go court.
However, di committee do dia hearing for her absence and recommend say she go dey suspended for six months.
Mrs Akpoti-Uduagha final words as she dey comot for di senate chamber after her suspension tell di lawmakers na: “Dis injustice no go dey sustained.”

Self-styled Evangelist, Patricia Asieduaa Oduro aka Nana Agradaa, has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment in hard labour for defrauding by false pretences.
This stems from a 2022 charges brought against her by some members of the public after she successfully deceived them that she could double any amount of money they gave her.
Nana Agradaa was standing trial for seven offences, including charlatanic advertisement contrary to Section 137(1) of Act 29 and defrauding by false pretences in contravention of Section 131(1) of the same Act.
The court presided over by Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah found her guilty of the offences and convicted her earlier this morning.
The court then ordered a pregnancy test on her pending sentencing.
The pregnancy test returned a negative result leading the court to sentence her to 15 years’ imprisonment in hard labor.
The controversial priest-turned Televangelist, according to court documents, used her Today-TV channel and other social media platforms to urge her victims to give out any amount of money which she will in return double for them.
The documents said the complainants in the case as well as over one thousand other persons came from far and near and attended the all-night service and gave out various sums of money as requested by Nana Agradaa for doubling but she failed to deliver on her promise.
Richard Asare Baffour, the lawyer for former traditional priestess turned evangelist, Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, commonly known as Agradaa, has stated that his client’s 15-year sentence was passed simply to appease public sentiment.
According to the lawyer, Ghanaians have gotten what they want, as Agradaa has become hated because she has stepped on many toes.

The first time I heard the word ‘Diplomat’ was when my father used to send me to Mamavi’s mother’s drinking spot to buy him cigarettes by the brand name ‘Diplomatt’ so when I grew up and got the understanding that ‘Diplomat’ meant a biiiig international person or one who speaks softly and politely, I wondered if the cigarette was ‘polite’ on my father’s health.
I would not be surprised if it was lung cancer that killed my father leaving the family to suffer with our poor mum. Whatever you do, abeg, think about its consequences on you but more importantly think about the people you would leave behind o, yoo!
On December 31st last year, I prayed to God to let me desist from ‘entertaining’ some women in my life and discourage me from admiring the ladies in town especially at Abeka Lapaz traffic lights in front of Las Palmas. I like it when I am caught up in the traffic and I am the first in front when I see the ladies crossing the road in haste and the things that keep shaking behind them. Awwww! Sometimes I wish the ‘red light’ stays a bit longer. It can be a sight to behold; very lovely and gives me hope for the future! Kw3333!
To my surprise, God seems to be answering those prayers. Now, when I see any nice girl in skirt, nothing motivates me to get closer. Sometimes if I take a bold step to advance too, the next moment, I lose interest. Last month after salaries were paid, I’d arranged with Ablavi and went to book a guest room for ‘special prayers’. When the time was due and she called me, I wasn’t interested again. I switched my phone off. Ah what has come over me han? I am beginning to suspect my wife; she could be the one behind all these.
She goes to church too much with anointing oil. She likes praying for Holy Ghost fire to consume all ‘evil’ things in my life including eyi. Madam, I know I am not as prayerful as you but did I send you? Is it evil to allow enjoyment with eyi? Ah! Don’t you know if God answers those prayers and I am not getting anything to ‘eat’ again, I will fall sick?
Always praying against my small temporary enjoyment with those eyi even though they bring me stress, mobile money wahala, and the fear of HIV! After all, how much do I give them mpo? Please allow me ooo, yoo. Allow me to be wise like Solomon. Ei, is it not true that the more the women in your life, the wiser one becomes according to the Gospel according to Solomon? Is it not true that behind every successful man is a woman? No further comments but I want to be more successful so…hahaaaai! Leave me alone o, wifee; your prayers are affecting my waist, ‘negatively’. E
ven the half clutch I suffer occasionally nowadays, I am sure is a result of your prayers but how come I get full clutch when I come home? Half clutch can make you ask some of the most useless questions ever whiles in the ‘useless-uselful’ act such as: ‘so was your father a good soldier’? Who told you Ablavi’s father is a soldier?
To be frank, but for our wives, a lot of us men would have lost protection from Jehovah God long ago o; we are too bad. Let’s cherish them and love them; abeg don’t try to understand them bcos you can’t. Our wives, please relax your prayers on us small ‘in this department’ so we can go out there and enjoy small bcos it adds up to the joy we bring back home. No be so? Ahan!
Isaiah Chapter 4 says we should have seven women though now when you try, stress will kill you! It is the law that is restricting us with only one wife, failure which means you have committed a crime. So we have devised our own ways and do it secretly so the law will not see! How for do!
I am not giving you bad advice o, Sammy, but if they send you to the battlefield, to come back dead or alive depends on you, finish! Don’t ask me any questions o, yoo.
Ei, everyone has a password o. Hmmm! Derick was already from a good home, no doubt about that. His dad was once the Director-General of a state institution and the mother, an MD of a textile manufacturing company. At the time, my dad was a washman with swag. We attended the same schools through to the master’s level. He wasn’t exactly my friend but somehow we found each other attending the same schools and doing the same courses.
He is a biiig man now. He has risen through the ranks and is now a Director in a big company. Talk of every bad thing and you are likely to find him linked to it. From drinking to womanizing, he is a ‘brand ambassador’. Today, he travels around the world like a political drone. He is living well well, I tell you, Wiredu. He is doing far better in life even though I was better than him in school. And so what? Hmmm!
The way the laws of Dubai work er, I shock sef. How I wish that happens in Ghana. I went to cross the road at a point where there was no zebra crossing. I entered a shop to buy something and before I knew it, two un-uniformed policemen just approached me that I was under arrest.
For what offence? They said I ignored the zebra crossing and crossed the road and for that matter, I was given two charges: 1: attempted suicide and 2: lack of common sense! I paid close to 300 cedi equivalence of their currency as fine. I challenged them with the fact that in my own country nobody cares if I cross the road at the wrong place and a car kills me. They didn’t even laugh! Hmmmm! Clap for Ghana…kpa kpa kpakpakpa kpaaaaaa!
Dericki? Drinking? Girling? Clubbing? ‘He do all’ but he is living well today. So why should God keep blessing someone who is so immoral? We met just last week and in our conversation, he gave me a secret as to why almost everything seemed to be working for him – TITHING! He believed one tenth of his income belongs to God even if it meant his pastor is the one chopping it bcos to the best of his knowledge, that money is for Jehovah God, not him (Derick).
He added that he knows that God can take that job away from him and that 90% sef, he won’t get again so why not give God His 10%! Frankly, if anybody should be advising me on tithing, Derick was the last person to come to the fore of my thoughts. Whaaaaaat! Everyone has a ‘password’ o, yooo!
I don’t know how many of us will agree with him but according to him, failure to pay tithe amounts to ‘restricting oneself to God’s favour’ – you do yourself a lot of disfavor by not paying your tithes. Surprisingly he did not advise me to start paying tithe but all he said was that, if I think I am comfortable with life ‘THIS WAY’, so be it! But if I think I deserve more including better health, I should not joke with my first fruits! Hmmmm! Or I should start paying so that when the favour of the Lord is abundant upon me, then I stop? Please let someone advise me er.
Eish! Counting money piapiapia to pay tithe paaaa go hard o. I will try but my problem is ten percent of what? Gross, net (less loan deductions), or what exactly? Please somebody should educate me. Can’t I just pay say GHC300 to the church once in a while as aforli3 instead of a whooping GHC…. for pastor to chop? Shame, you want to know how much I earn er, hahahahaaaa!
For a clue, I am taxed at least 35% on my income. Now the witches and wizards in my village have an idea how much I earn and would soon start appearing in my dreams asking for their share whilst holding an axe in the air on my head!
Happy weekend to everyone but let’s all love our wives bcos they intercede on our behalf, big time. Let’s appreciate them because ‘whatever you don’t appreciate, depreciates! Halleluya? If you won’t say Amen, be there er! Hahaaaa!

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) is intensifying its efforts to combat the growing threat of cocoa smuggling, with a planned security-focused visit to the Volta Region.
Board Chairman, Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, announced the initiative during a familiarisation tour of COCOBOD facilities on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in Tema.
He expressed concern over the impact of smuggling on the integrity and long-term viability of the cocoa sector.
COCOBOD is set to collaborate closely with the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority to crack down on illicit cross-border activities that continue to undermine export revenues and reduce farmer incomes.
According to Dr. Ampofo, the illegal trade not only distorts official cocoa sales but also threatens the sustainability of one of the country’s most vital export commodities.
“We will be going to the Volta Region with our special services team. I’ve had discussions with the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, and as such, the Regional Security Council will be involved.
“We will engage the Ghana Police Service and the Marine Police, and we’ll work closely with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and other security agencies.
“A collaborative network involving the intelligence community and national security is being established to stem the tide of this smuggling threat,” he stated.

Leader of the Majority Caucus in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has challenged the Minority’s opposition to the rerun of the Ablekuma North parliamentary elections in selected polling stations.
According to him, he believes the Minority is exhibiting an apparent fear of a transparent electoral process should the rerun be conducted.
Ayariga, speaking on the floor of Parliament on July 3, 2025, questioned why the Minority would oppose the decision, given that the Electoral Commission, after its deliberations, discovered that some pink sheets needed for the collation of results in Ablekuma North were not validated by the presiding officers, prompting the call for a rerun to ensure a fair process.
“And if the scanned pink sheets were not verified by their [EC] own presiding officers, on what basis should that be used? That is why they are calling for a rerun of those 19 polling stations. I don’t know why you are afraid. Why are you afraid?” he queried.
Ayariga, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, cautioned against politicizing the Electoral Commission’s decision.
He refuted claims by the Minority that the EC is being intimidated into rerunning the parliamentary elections, describing such assertions as unfounded.
“So, please let us not try to politicize this and say that because recently the national chairman of one political party made a statement that the EC is intimidated. No, it’s just fair and reasonable that if their own officers did not verify those pink sheets, they should rerun those polling stations,” he cautioned.
This comes on the back of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) firmly rejecting the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun the parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
The Electoral Commission contends that the affected polling stations had their results used for collation without verification and validation by the respective presiding officers.
However, the NPP insists that no substantial irregularities occurred in those polling stations to warrant a rerun.
The rerun of the elections is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025.

Rourkela: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Ghana was marked by a vibrant display of cultural heritage, courtesy the Odia diaspora. The community, known for its rich traditions, played a significant role in welcoming the Prime Minister during his two-day stay in the West African nation.Upon his arrival at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra on July 2, Modi was greeted with a grand reception by the Indian diaspora. The atmosphere was alive with chants of “Hare Krishna”, melodious mantras, and a spirited chorus of “Jai Ho”, reflecting India’s cultural unity and diversity. A standout moment of the welcome ceremony was a captivating Bharatanatyam performance by three young girls, including Tapaswinee Panda from Odisha. On July 3, the second day of his visit, members of Utkal Ghana Association (UGA), led by president Deepak Kumar Das and general secretary Saroj Kumar Patnaik, had the opportunity to meet Modi. During the interaction, the team shared insights into their cultural activities, particularly highlighting their annual Rath Yatra celebrations in Ghana, which have been gaining increasing participation.UGA president said he informed the PM about the Shree Jagannath Temple established by the Odia community in Accra two years ago. “The conversation took a personal turn when the Prime Minister fondly inquired about Mahaprabhu’s khichdi, his favourite offering. UGA general secretary told him that prasad is available daily at the temple,” he said. Also present during the interaction were joint secretary of UGA Tapan Panda and vice-president Bidya Sagar Subudhi.
play videoYaa Jackson says she is responsible for her lifestyle choices, not her dad
Ghanaian musician and actress Yaa Jackson has asked the public to stop dragging her father into conversations about her lifestyle choices.
Speaking in an interview with Zionfelix, the “Ehwe Papa” singer said she has observed a trend where people keep asking her father why she dresses the way she does, often showing cleavage and skin.
According to her, she is a grown woman who is responsible for her own decisions, and no one should hold her father accountable for her actions.
She explained that some people even go as far as interviewing her father to question him about why he hasn’t spoken to her about how she presents herself.
According to Yaa Jackson, these actions are unfair, and she believes people should direct their concerns to her instead.
“Many people interview my dad and ask him about my choice to show cleavage and why he hasn’t discussed it with me. I feel like I am an adult and make my own decisions that I feel are authentic to me. If you have an issue with my choices, feel free to comment directly to me; my comment section is open for you. Please do not go and disrespect that legend,” Yaa Jackson stated.
She added that it hurts to see people focus only on her lifestyle while ignoring the good things her father has done, including raising a child who is now a pastor and nurturing talents in Ghana’s entertainment industry.
“I notice that people often overlook the praise he deserves for making stars or for the fact that one of his children is a pastor. I urge everyone to respect him and allow him to be who he is. If you have a problem with me, address it with me,” she said.
Yaa Jackson also noted that some of the people criticizing her might not be any better morally. She believes that in some cases, she may even be more religious or righteous than those who judge her.
“Some may criticise my actions, but it’s worth considering that I might be more righteous or religious than many of those who judge me. There are times when we hear about pastors we hold in high esteem doing things we wouldn’t expect, yet we might find it easier to believe if it were a worldly person but those may be some actions that I may not even be able to embrace myself.
“So, I ask you all to let my dad’s name be respected. I know I may be seen as the black sheep, and you can say whatever you want about me, but please keep my dad out of it,” she added.

Ghana has reached a significant milestone in its upstream petroleum sector with the formal submission of the Declaration of Commerciality (DoC) for the Eban-Akoma oil and gas discoveries located in the Cape Three Points Block 4 (CTP-B4).
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition confirmed the development in a statement sighted by GhanaWeb Business on Friday July 3, 2025, describing the move as a critical step toward the sustainable exploitation of Ghana’s offshore hydrocarbon resources.
The declaration was submitted by the Joint Venture (JV) Partners, Eni Ghana Exploration & Production Ltd, Vitol Upstream Tano Ltd, Woodfields Upstream Ghana Ltd, and GNPC Exploration & Production Company Ltd (Explorco), in collaboration with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
According to the Ministry, the submission, which was made on July 3, 2025, follows the successful completion of the Eban-Akoma Appraisal Programme.
The appraisal confirmed the commercial viability of hydrocarbons discovered in the Eban-1X oil well and Akoma-1X gas and condensate well, paving the way for development.
Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor on his part said the declaration signals the next chapter for Ghana’s energy sector.
“The Declaration of Commerciality for the Eban-Akoma discoveries is a major boost to our oil and gas sector. It highlights the immense potential of our offshore resources to fuel economic transformation, enhance energy security, and drive Ghana’s industrialiSation agenda,” the sector minister stated.
John Jinapor also praised the JV Partners and the GNPC for their dedication to what he called a strategic national asset.
“We commend the JV Partners and GNPC for their commitment to this project. This milestone is a clear testament to the Government’s drive toward sustainable development and responsible resource management,” he mentioned.
Following this declaration, the JV Partners will now begin working on a comprehensive Plan of Development (PoD). This plan will focus on optimal resource recovery, value maximisation, and the promotion of local content participation, in line with Ghana’s energy policy and national development targets.
The Ministry of Energy, however, noted that it will continue to collaborate with the Petroleum Commission and GNPC to provide oversight and technical support to ensure the project aligns with government priorities and Ghana’s long-term energy strategy.
Additionally, further technical and commercial evaluations will be conducted to finalise the development framework.
“This milestone underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering a transparent, investor-friendly, and resilient energy sector that delivers long-term value for the Ghanaian people,” the Ministry concluded.
Meanwhile, the Eban-Akoma discoveries are expected to significantly boost Ghana’s domestic energy supply and contribute to the country’s economic growth in the coming years.

Veteran rapper Nii Addo Quaynor, known in showbiz as Tinny, says no one influenced his decision to switch from rapping in Twi and English to Ga.
He made the revelation in an interview with George Quaye on Joy Prime’s Prime Time Show, clarifying the bold move that would later define his brand and career.
“Yeah, I actually started as a Twi rapper,” Tinny said when asked about his early music days. “I was doing more Twi and English than a bit of Ga, but I wasn’t a Ga rapper.”
He explained that language choice in music often comes down to reach and marketability.
“You see, Twi is the most spoken language in Ghana, so when you’re doing something in Twi, you perceive that it will go faster. Consider merchandising and market-wise—it goes fast. So I decided to do my thing in Twi.”
But something didn’t sit right.
“Later on, I realised that I’m not original. I have to be me and represent where I’m coming from. That’s why I went back to my pen and my paper and I wrote songs like and others.”
When asked who advised him to make the switch to Ga, Tinny was emphatic: “No one, I decided myself.”
George Quaye probed further, citing rumours that famed producer Hammer was behind the shift. Tinny dismissed the claim.
“No, this was way before meeting Hammer. I was a Ga rapper before meeting him. I remember I met Hammer through Doggo. When Doggo was going to record his album, Hammer was looking for a Ga rapper.
“So Doggo actually told Hammer about me, and I was home when he called me. I drove there, and I met him—and the rest is history, as they say. So it wasn’t Hammer at all.”
On working with Hammer, Tinny had nothing but high praise.
“The feeling alone was great. Because Hammer is the type that can mute everything and just drop you some baseline that makes you go crazy… wow… even before dropping the strings and everything.
“So it brings the feeling out of you. It brings out the creativity. I love working with Hammer—one of the best engineers so far.”
Asked about claims that Hammer was difficult to work with, Tinny laughed it off.
“Maybe it is the understanding. I dey worry, but Hammer still works with me.”
Private legal practitioner Austin Brako Powers has questioned the Electoral Commission’s legal basis for rerunning elections in 19 Ablekuma North polling stations.
During a July 4 appearance on TV3’s “The Big Issue,” Powers asserted the EC lacked constitutional authority for this reversal after previously advancing results collation, according to verified broadcast records.
Powers referenced the Public Elections Regulations 2020 (C.I. 127), noting parliamentary reruns are legally permissible only in tie scenarios under Regulation 42. He advised the New Patriotic Party to seek High Court intervention, stating: “The EC must base decisions on legal foundations.” ‘
This follows the NPP’s July 3 announcement of planned legal action against the rerun scheduled for July 11.
The Electoral Commission maintains its decision falls within constitutional mandates under the Mahama administration’s electoral governance framework. No additional justification has been provided beyond initial announcements.
Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has appealed to the United States Government to renew the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), stressing its significant impact on Ghana’s economy, particularly in the areas of exports, job creation, and foreign investment.
Her call comes at a time when concerns are mounting over the U.S. Government’s “America First” trade policy and the introduction of new global tariffs, which many fear could negatively affect African exports.
Speaking at an event in Accra on Friday, July 4, to mark the 249th Independence Day of the United States, the Minister emphasised that AGOA has served as a powerful vehicle for economic cooperation between Ghana and the U.S., especially in the garment, textile, cocoa, and processed food industries.
“One of the most impactful frameworks through which our economic partnership has flourished is the African Growth and Opportunities Act, AGOA. Since its inception in 2000, Ghana has proudly remained an eligible beneficiary country to date. Over the years, the program has created meaningful opportunities for Ghanaian businesses, particularly in textiles and apparel, agriculture and value-added manufacturing.
“It has supported livelihoods, enhanced export capacity, and integrated small and medium enterprises into global markets. In 2024 alone, official figures released by the Office of the United States Trade Representative showed that Ghana’s exports to the United States under AGOA reached approximately $1.2 billion.
“These trade flows are more than mere statistics. They reflect the livelihoods, dignity, and empowerment of Ghanaian workers, especially women and young people,” she stated.
Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru in the Eastern Region, Kennedy Nyarko Osei, has explained that President John Dramani Mahama was not fair when he described the economy bequeathed to him by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government as criminally managed.
He cites Ghana’s gold reserves as of May 2023 under the previous administration as his basis of his criticism of the President of Ghana.
Recently departed Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed on Friday July 4, 2025.
Partey, 32, officially left Arsenal on July 1, 2025, after his contract expired, bringing an end to his five-year spell at the Emirates following his £45 million move from Atletico Madrid in September 2020.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the charges include two counts of rape involving one woman, three counts of rape involving a second woman, and one count of sexual assault concerning a third woman.
The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2021 and 2022.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, said, “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team. You can contact detectives about this investigation by emailing [email protected].”
Police said the investigation began in February 2022 after they first received a report of rape.
Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

Sean Combs, popularly known as P. Diddy or Puff Daddy
After eight weeks of trial and 34 witnesses, Sean “Diddy” Combs’ criminal case is drawing to a close.
A verdict has been reached: Combs is guilty of transportation for prostitution of ex-girlfriends Cassie and Jane, and not guilty on the more serious charges on racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
Supporters waiting to see him walk out of court were left disappointed, and he will be returning to a Brooklyn jail.
He now faces 20 years in prison, and he’s expected to be sentenced on 3 October.
The last few weeks, we have witnessed the gradual undoing of one of hip hop’s biggest icons. Taking the stand were his ex-girlfriends, Cassie Ventura and an anonymous “Jane” who said they were physically brutalised and forced into sex acts by Combs.
We also heard from celebrities like Kid Cudi and Dawn Richard. Others still, hotel workers, assistants, and makeup artists, say they found themselves wrapped up in his world – one they say was fuelled by drugs and violence.
The rapper had admitted to domestic violence, but always denied any non-consensual sexual encounters or a larger racketeering scheme.
Old picture of EC Chairperson Jean Mensa with her military security detail
The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, has confirmed speculative reports about the removal of the military team providing security for the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Adukwei Mensa.
Speaking on the matter in a JoyNews interview on Friday, July 4, 2025, and monitored by GhanaWeb, Muntaka clarified that the military detail had been withdrawn and replaced with a police team, questioning the rationale behind assigning military personnel to provide security for civilians.
He explained that the new procedure, assigning police to provide security for all high-ranking officials in the country, was in line with a government decision not to use the military for such duties.
“Let me say, that is not true because the EC herself, I don’t know whether you’ve spoken to her. I personally spoke to her after the meeting and we agreed that we were no longer going to use the military to provide civilian protection.
“So, the guards were withdrawn and replaced with the police so, if you ask her she will tell you she has a bodyguard, she has police manning her gate both day and night and therefore, it is never true if anybody says that her security has been withdrawn,” the minister stated.
The Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Asawase, explained that the EC Chair is not the only affected person under the new directive, adding that all high-ranking officials who previously had military protection have had it withdrawn and replaced with police personnel.
“What we do generally is to provide security around every neighborhood. VVIPs like the chair of the Electoral Commission, she has a personal bodyguard (sic) just like the chief justice, the speaker of parliament and all others and that’s what we are doing. And I’m sure you can call her and find out and she can confirm that both her and her office is protected,” he said.
Mubarak further expressed the view that the military are not trained to provide civilian protection, stating that such actions tend to send the wrong signals to the citizenry.
“Why should military be performing a civilian function? I mean, our country is not at war. Why should you draw in the military? The use of military sometimes sends wrong signal to the ordinary citizen.
“Police are trained with a civilian mind while the military are supposed to constantly provide security for our external or territorial integrity. So, when we draw them in, we are reducing the number of personnel that the military has to perform those difficult tasks that is usually performed by the military,” he continued.
He added, “That’s everywhere, I mean you can find out from the former defense minister, you can find out from almost all the civilians that were using military protection. All of that have been withdrawn, all without exception. And this is a decision that we took as a new government and that’s our policy.”

Government is positioning the country as the regional hub for Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturing in West Africa, according to the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor.
Speaking at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and China’s Hubei University of Automotive Technology International Joint Research Centre’s launch on behalf of the minister, Seth A. Mahu, Director of Renewable Energy and Green Transition at the ministry, said the collaboration marks a significant step in building the intellectual infrastructure required to drive Ghana’s electric mobility agenda.
“This centre will advance research in battery storage, vehicle design and grid integration – ensuring that our local knowledge ecosystem keeps pace with global trends,” he stated.
He noted that his ministry, in collaboration with the Energy Commission, is spearheading efforts at expanding the national EV charging network by using solar-grid hybrid models to ensure both resilience and sustainability.
“With Ghana’s abundant solar potential, our future charging infrastructure will not just be functional – it will be clean, decentralised and smart,” he said.
He revealed that government plans to deploy at least 100 rapid-charging stations nationwide within the next five years. This, he said, will complement the growing network of home, level 1 and level 2 chargers already in use across the country.
To attract investment and stimulate innovation within the EV sector, John Jinapor announced that a range of policy incentives are being introduced. These include import duty waivers for commercial 100% electric vehicles, tax breaks for component manufacturers and support for green industrial zones.
“We are creating the right policy environment for both local and international investors. Incentives for EV importers, fiscal support for component manufacturing and enabling infrastructure are all part of our roadmap to attract capital and expertise,” he said.
He further affirmed government’s commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs across the EV value chain – from battery recycling and component assembly to full-scale vehicle production. Citing China’s rapid emergence as the global leader in EV manufacturing, he noted that while Ghana could learn from that model it must chart a path anchored in strategic partnerships and local strengths.
“Accelerating the transition from semi-knocked down (SKD) to completely knocked down (CKD) assembly is vital to increasing local content and creating sustainable jobs,” he emphasised.
Beyond manufacturing, the minister highlighted government’s efforts to resolve energy sector challenges to support the EV transition. Over the next five years, more than 1,400 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity will expectedly be added to the national grid. This expansion is backed by over US$2billion in investments across the renewable energy and green transition value chain.
As part of the broader strategy, government will establish a Renewable Energy Authority and a Renewable Energy Investment Fund to provide financial and technical support to emerging markets – including electric mobility.
John Jinapor called on Chinese partners to invest in Ghana’s EV ecosystem, highlighting opportunities in technology transfer, joint ventures and training.
“This forum must be a bridge between Ghana and China – between ideas and implementation, ambition and achievement. In five years, we should be able to tell bold stories of growth and transformation in the EV space,” he said.
He also challenged KNUST and Hubei University to ensure the new partnership delivers tangible outcomes in innovation, skills development and EV production lines that will “redefine the future of mobility in Ghana and Africa”.
Asante Kotoko have completed the signing of midfielder Joseph Amoah on a four-year deal, following the successful completion of his medicals.
The 21-year-old joins from Legon Cities, where he made his debut as a teenager two seasons ago and went on to make close to 50 league appearances.
Amoah is a versatile and physically gifted player who is comfortable in midfield and can also slot in at full back. He is strong, quick, and capable of dictating the tempo of play with confidence on the ball and good positional awareness.
“I’m absolutely elated to make this move,” Amoah said. “Coming from a Legon Cities side that had a tough season, to now joining the biggest club in Ghana, is a huge step in my career. There were a few offers on the table, but for me it was always Asante Kotoko. The ambition here is clear, and I want to be part of something special especially in the CAF confederation cup.”
The youngster was previously in talks with rivals Hearts of Oak, but negotiations broke down, clearing the path for Kotoko to move decisively for his signature.
Amoah becomeS one of the new additions under the club’s new technical setup led by coach Abdul Karim Zito, as the Reds look to strengthen key positions and mount a strong challenge for the upcoming campaign.
Cheque Fraud EXPOSED: How it works and how to stay safe
Oluwamodupe Oloyede was recently named the new head drum major
Oluwamodupe Oloyede was recently named the new head drum major of the Florida A&M University Marching 100, making her the first female head drum major.
She will lead the band on the field as they begin the 2025 football season at the Orange Blossom Classic in Miami on August 30, Sports Illustrated reported, adding that she will blow the first whistle to start the show.
“It’s an immense honor,” Oloyede said to WCTV of her new role. “It’s still settling in that this is happening.”
Oloyede is only the second woman ever to wear the drum major uniform at FAMU, after Cori Bostick. However, this year, Oloyede is the first female to lead the line.
“Last year, my goal definitely was to be a clean, precise, physically up to par, beyond par, excellent drum major…Now that I’m a drum major, my goal is to show that you bring yourself to the job, and I am a woman. There’s no separating them. So, being the head drum major this year, the beautiful burden of it is the integrity of the game, that for people to do what I need them to do, I have to do it first,” Oloyede was quoted by Sports Illustrated.
The Atlanta native said this has been her dream since she was 11. While in middle school, she played the saxophone and briefly left her music dreams for dance until a teacher introduced her to the local high school band program.
“I fell in love with a band program before anything else,” she said.
Oloyede started college at Howard University before transferring to FAMU, hoping to make a name for herself in the Marching 100.
“I thought I lost my shot,” she said. “My friends are a little older than me in the band, I’m a year younger than them in classification, but as God would have it, I still ascended to leadership and I couldn’t hide.”
Oloyede is now a senior with a theater background that she uses while performing, WCTV reported. “I say nobody graduates from discipline. As you get older, you actually have to have more discipline to do more work and I like that type of pressure,” she said. “That keeps me on my toes.”
The marching band leader hopes that her story will inspire other young girls who want to follow in her footsteps.
“You got this. Let your work speak for itself, and nobody can deny you,” she said. “And to the women who came before me, who were more than qualified, it’s in your honor.”
The Marching “100” has become a global ambassador for excellence at HBCUs since 1892, known for its iconic performances at presidential inaugurations, Super Bowl, Summer Olympics, and international events.
It was crowned the 2024 Band of the Year the night before the 2024 Celebration Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia.
Becoming a female drum major is not new in the black marching band culture as several HBCU bands have recently featured female drum majors. However, being a female head drum major is exceptional, and leading an iconic Black college marching band as FAMU’s is even more remarkable.
Confident Ghanaian media personality Captain Smart has said that Ghanaians should dispel the fallacy implanted in their minds that President Mahama is behind Nana Agradaa, also known as Evangelist Tupac’s sentence.
Captain Smart’s comment came following the sentence of the controversial woman of God, who has become a topic of online discussion.
Editor of the Newscenta newspaper, Elvis Darko, has taken a strong swipe at the Electoral Commission (EC) over its decision to conduct a parliamentary rerun in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency, describing the Commission’s handling of the situation as inconsistent and unacceptable.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Thursday, July 3, he questioned the EC’s credibility, citing what he sees as a major shift from an earlier position communicated to Parliament.
According to him, the EC had previously indicated that only three polling station results were outstanding, making the new directive to rerun elections in 19 polling stations deeply troubling.
“These are the reasons people have issues with the Electoral Commission. Be straightforward and do your work. You are not under the control of any political party; you only collaborate with them.
“Two weeks ago, the EC told Parliament that only three stations were left. Now they say 19 polling stations will be rerun. And you expect people not to accuse you of scheming with one party? It’s unacceptable. What they’ve done justifies why people attack their credibility,” he said.
He added that the EC’s failure to maintain a consistent and transparent approach undermines public trust and fuels suspicions of political bias. He openly declared his support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in opposing what he termed a “so-called rerun.”
The backlash follows a July 2 press release issued by the Electoral Commission and signed by its Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey. The EC announced that the rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency would take place on Friday, July 11, 2025.
The decision was reportedly reached after a July 1 meeting with representatives of the two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The dispute originates from the December 7, 2024, general election. The NDC, which currently holds the majority in Parliament, rejected results from 37 polling stations, alleging that the scanned Pink Sheets used were not adequately verified and were suspiciously submitted by the NPP. The party insisted that elections be rerun across all 37 centres.
In contrast, the NPP argued that only three polling station results were left uncollated and maintained that the scanned results had already been verified in the presence of NDC agents.
The EC clarified that the original Pink Sheets were destroyed after violence broke out at the collation centre. In response, scanned versions were used to complete the process. However, to restore confidence in the outcome, the Commission decided to rerun the vote in 19 of the most disputed polling stations.
Ms. Prest told the court that her marriage to the deceased Managing Director of First Foundation Medical Engineering Company was conducted in 1996 under Kalabari Native Law and Custom, with her full consent and the blessing of her family.
She gave her testimony during ongoing proceedings before Justice Oluwatoyin Odusanya, which concern the management of Dr. Ajayi’s estate.
The journey from Copenhagen, Denmark to Stockholm, Sweden was a nine-hour drive. Denmark is separated from Sweden by the Norwegian Sea.
In a mind-blowing piece of engineering, the Danish city of Copenhagen has been linked by road and rail to the Swedish city of Malmo by a 4km tunnel under the sea, an artificial island and an incredible 4km bridge to the Swedish city of Malmo. This amazing spectacle of “tunnel-island-and-bridge” reminded me of the old saying, “seeing is believing!” I can only describe it as stupendous!
“Stupendous”
Incidentally, “stupendous” as a word evokes interesting memories. Many years ago, our house-keeper, “Akos” who did not have any formal education and spoke no English, came angrily complaining to my “Manager” that, Mr Boat our son had insulted her saying she was stupid. We quickly summoned him and confronted him with “Akos” accusation.
After the initial shock of the accusation, Boat burst out into laughter saying, when “Auntie Akos” came out of her room beautifully dressed, he complimented her saying “stupendous!” When she confirmed that was what happened, we explained to her that, Boat was admiring her for her extremely impressive dress with the word “stupendous,” and not calling her stupid as she thought. Her anger was instantly transformed into joy!
After nine hours of driving, as we climbed into the beautiful hilly city of the Swedish capital Stockholm, all I heard myself say, perhaps borrowing from “Wonderful Copenhagen” in Denmark, was “Stupendous Stockholm!”
Sweden
Sweden is one of the Scandinavian countries of Northern Europe, the others being Denmark, and Norway. It has made tremendous contributions in peace and diplomacy, conflict resolution and UN Peacekeeping.
Indeed, in 1948 the first casualty of the UN was the assassinated UN Swedish Mediator between Israel and Palestine, Count Folke Bernadotte. The “Folke Bernadotte Academy” (FBA) in Stockholm which we visited, collaborates with our own Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC).
Also, the second Secretary-General of the UN from 1953-1961, Dag Hammarskjold who is said to have been assassinated in a controversial air crash in Ndola, Zambia on September 18, 1961 while mediating in the Congo Crisis, was from Sweden.
Sweden is also the country of AB Nobel, the inventor of dynamite who bequeathed his fortune to humanity in the form of annual Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, Peace and Economics.
In the field of boxing, Swedish boxer Ingemar Johannsson was the world heavyweight champion from 1959-1960. For music lovers, the Swedish 1972 pop music group ABBA which took the world by storm, is a world renowned legendary musical group. The ABBA Museum is a major tourist attraction in Stockholm.
On the negative side, an incident in 1973 led to what became known as the “Stockholm Syndrome.”
Stockholm Syndrome
Stockholm Syndrome is a phenomenon in which victims in cases of hostage-taking, kidnappings and other crimes, rather strangely and irrationally, develop positive feelings of trust, affection, and even love for their captors/perpetrators. In effect, the hostage bonds with the captor. Though not recognized as a medical condition, it has been described as a coping mechanism for a temporary psychological disorder occasioned by danger from the captor.
This phenomenon got its name from a 23rd August 1973 bank robbery incident which happened in Stockholm, Sweden involving an escaped convict Jan-Eric Olsson. After wounding a policeman, he took four bank officials, a male and three females, hostage and demanded a ransom of $700,000, and a get-away car. Additionally, he demanded the release of a jailed armed robber Clark Olofsson who was involved in the murder of a policeman in 1966.
During the six-day standoff with police, the captive bank employees became sympathetic toward the bank robbers, bonding with them. Indeed, they refused to testify against the robbers in court later.
Long before the recent 1973 invention of the name “Stockholm Syndrome,” history had examples of such irrational behaviour right from Biblical times through Shakespeare in the C17th to the present. In more recent times in the late 1970s into the early 1980s in Ghana, a woman is alleged to have married one of the killers of her husband.
Discussion
The question then is, why are Ghanaians prepared to sacrifice themselves for politicians who do not care about them after having their votes? “Stockholm Syndrome?”
Any time I hear war-drums being sounded with loud impunity, my mind races back to my home Uganda in 2008-2009 where the Security boss answered my question as to why murders were such a daily routine saying;
“Where human beings know that, nothing will happen to them if they commit murder because the Law does not work, they will kill with impunity. But if they know they will also be killed for murder because the Law, they will not commit murder!”
Question
Is a form of Stockholm Syndrome that makes people love to die for politicians they know do not care about them, and love wrong-doers?
As a foreigner who knew a lot about Ghana on a flight with me years ago asked, are you Ghanaians happy forgiving coup-makers, having your major entry-point named after a coup-maker who overthrew President Nkrumah and truncated Ghana’s forward march as a beacon of Africa? Are you not encouraging coup-making as an investment if future generations know monuments will be named after them for gambling to stage coups successfully?
Whatever it is, it is a negative character which demeans our humanity as a people! This behavior must be exorcised immediately if we are to realise our potential and respect as the Ghanaians we were at independence, and not ordinary pawns on the chessboard of politicians.
In an 8th April 2022 tweet attributed to lawyer and Senior partner of AB & David Africa Partners, David Ofosu-Dorte, he stated as follows.
“In Africa, we prevent officials from experiencing the very problems we elect them to solve – they have outriders to avoid traffic, guards for their safety and to jump queues, coupons to escape the pain of buying petrol etc. How do we expect them to solve problems they don’t face?”
I hope someday, Swedes and Danes who visit Ghana can call Accra, “Stupendous Accra” or “Wonderful Accra” like “Stupendous Stockholm” and “Wonderful Copenhagen!”
Leadership, lead by Example and Integrity! Fellow Ghanaians, WAKE UP!

Global Ripples in the Travel Sector
In 2024, Ghana recorded a remarkable surge in international tourist arrivals, making a lasting impression not only within its borders but across the global travel landscape. This notable growth, marked by a 12% year-over-year increase, is expected to reshape various aspects of the global tourism industry—from airline route planning to regional tourism collaborations and evolving traveler interests.
As Ghana continues to capture global attention, the travel sector may need to shift its lens toward West Africa. The country has emerged as a leading destination not only for its cultural authenticity but also for its growing reputation as a hub for business travel.
This change in travel dynamics is set to influence:
The development of new flight paths connecting more international cities to West Africa
Strategic investment in hotels, resorts, and transport networks
A stronger focus in tourism campaigns on African heritage and cultural richness
A rise in cross-border travel circuits, linking Ghana with other African destinations
The increasing flow of travelers from nations like the United States, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom suggests a growing appetite for multi-country itineraries, with Ghana as a key anchor in these experiences.
Destination Reputation and Visitor Sentiment
According to recent findings, a staggering 88% of international visitors viewed Ghana as a highly desirable destination. This favorable perception wasn’t arbitrary; it stemmed from several key elements that have resonated with travelers:
Ghanaian hospitality was appreciated by 94% of those surveyed
The country’s rich cultural legacy stood out for 39%
Local cuisine, known for its authenticity and flavor, delighted 28%
A sense of safety and security impressed another 39%
Such strong sentiments have solidified Ghana’s status not just as a place to visit once, but as a destination people are eager to return to—and recommend. This emotional connection between travelers and the country is a powerful force in building sustainable tourism.
Leading Source Countries Fueling Growth
In 2024, Ghana’s inbound tourism was heavily driven by visitors from three major countries: the United States, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom. These nations accounted for a significant percentage of total arrivals:
137,862 tourists came from the U.S.
111,581 traveled from Nigeria
52,845 arrived from the U.K.
This pattern highlights Ghana’s deep-rooted links with both its diaspora communities and its international economic partners. For many, travel to Ghana is more than a vacation—it’s a cultural reconnection and a continuation of historical, familial, and professional ties.
Primary Entry Gateways
Kotoka International Airport in Accra remained the primary port of entry, efficiently handling over 1.13 million international arrivals. However, it wasn’t the only active hub. Land border posts such as Aflao, Elubo, and Paga also played an essential role in facilitating regional movement, particularly from neighboring countries.
This diverse entry infrastructure demonstrates how air and land routes together support Ghana’s expanding tourism ecosystem. As demand grows, upgrades to both airport and land entry facilities are expected, potentially reshaping West African travel logistics in the years to come.
Travel Motivations Behind the Numbers
Delving into why people chose to visit Ghana in 2024 reveals a dynamic mix of reasons. Business travel topped the list, accounting for 2.43% of visits. This reinforces Ghana’s emerging role as a business gateway in West Africa.
Not far behind were:
Visits to family and friends (22.29%)
Leisure trips, including vacations and holidays (22.15%)
Educational purposes, such as study or teaching (7.06%)
In addition, many traveled for:
Cultural celebrations and festivals
Sports and international conferences
Transit purposes, using Ghana as a stopover to other destinations
This diverse mix of travel intentions shows that Ghana’s appeal is multi-faceted, serving not only tourists seeking relaxation but also those pursuing education, business, or heritage exploration.
Tourism Industry Outlook
With its upward momentum, Ghana is positioning itself as a regional tourism leader. The continued rise in visitor numbers suggests opportunities for greater private and public sector investment. From upgrading accommodations to expanding digital services, there’s room to enhance every touchpoint of the travel experience.
Beyond infrastructure, Ghana’s growing visibility may encourage a broader African tourism revival, prompting collaboration across borders to create cohesive travel experiences that span multiple countries. With its 2024 success setting a precedent, Ghana is becoming a catalyst for change throughout the continent’s tourism industry.
The story of Ghana’s tourism success in 2024 is more than just impressive statistics—it’s a testament to how a nation can harness its cultural wealth, strategic geography, and diaspora ties to become a global travel magnet. The surge in interest isn’t just a one-time achievement; it signals a lasting shift in global travel focus toward West Africa.
For the international travel industry, the message is clear: it’s time to reimagine the future of tourism, with Ghana playing a leading role in shaping that vision.
