ADB leverages technology for customer experience at Kwahu Business Forum

0

The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) leveraged technology to drive customer experience at the Kwahu Business Forum held last Saturday at Mpraeso in the Eastern Region.

The high-level business forum brought together financial institutions, private sector leaders, MSMEs, government officials, and global businesses as part of a comprehensive Kwahu Easter Business Dialogue under the theme “The Future of Business: The Role of the Financial Sector.”

The Bank’s exhibition booth attracted very high number of foot traffic throughout the forum, largely due to the deployment of a fully digitised customer onboarding platform combined with professionalism to ensure exceptional customer experience.

Visitors were able to open accounts instantly using a simplified, internally developed platform with paperless processes. Each new customer also received a free Visa Prepaid Card, activated on the spot, providing immediate access to the Bank’s wide array of digital services.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, the Managing Director of ADB, Edward Ato Sarpong, indicated that as part of a new strategic direction, ADB was repositioning itself as an innovative Bank, leveraging technology to provide end-to-end and tailor-made products and services for all. “The Kwahu Business Forum is a strategic platform, and ADB is proud to demonstrate our commitment to inclusive banking by bringing technology closer to the people,” he said.

“The successful rollout of the internally developed digital onboarding platform at such a major national event signals the Bank’s readiness to be technologically savvy and to lead the transformation of financial service delivery in Ghana,” the MD added.

The Bank is in the process of selecting strategic and potentially viable micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that participated in the Kwahu Business Forum to provide them with tailor-made financial services to help them expand and grow.

ADB is a universal bank providing products and service offerings for all segments, including agribusiness, asset finance, corporate banking, electronic banking, global remittance service, institutional and public sector banking, and trade services, among others. The Bank has 89 networked locations across the country.

Toobu leads security tour to galamsey sites along Black Volta

0

The Member of Parliament for Wa West, Peter Lanchene Toobu, has led a team of security heads on a mission to assess the intensifying menace of illegal mining activities along the Black Volta River.

The environmental crisis now threatens livelihoods, clean water, and Ghana’s only Hippo Sanctuary.

Communities visited included Dochira, Bankpama, and Chiatanga, where the sound of changfeng machines and the discoloured river are visible testaments to the destruction caused by illegal miners.

Peter Lanchene Toobu, accompanied by commanders of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, and Ghana Immigration Service, embarked on an inspection tour of illegal mining sites along the Black Volta River.

The visit follows sustained reports of ecological damage and threats to the region’s water security.

Standing by the banks of the now brown-tinged river, Toobu lamented the pollution of water bodies once considered sacred.

“If the future is polluted water, destroyed forests, and an environment so toxic it’s like poison, what kind of future are we leaving for our youth?” he asked.

The MP said the situation had escalated to the point where the region risks losing the Jambusi Water Project, a major source of potable water for several districts.

He warned that if mining continues unchecked, residents of the Upper West Region could soon face the embarrassment of having to import clean water for survival.

“It is not just Wa West. This affects Wa Central, Dorimon, Wechiau, and beyond. If this river dies, the whole region will suffer,” he said.

It could be recalled that seven suspects were recently arraigned before the court for engaging in illegal mining activities in the Wa West District. The arrests were part of an earlier effort by the district’s security council to clamp down on galamsey operations along the Black Volta.

Despite this, Toobu revealed that no arrests were made during the latest tour, as illegal miners often flee upon hearing the sound of vehicles approaching.

“They move as if the river is a highway,” he said. “Before you arrive, they’ve vanished with their champagne machines. It tells us this is a fight that must be relentless.”

He emphasized the need for the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to deploy water guards across the 28 communities along the Black Volta, including in the Nadowli-Kaleo and Lawra Districts, to monitor and prevent illegal mining in real time.

Spiritual & Cultural Engagements
At the Dorimon Naa’s Palace, the MP engaged traditional leaders on the importance of spiritual and cultural intervention.

“When we were young, we were told that there were river gods. You don’t defile the river and go unpunished. I challenge our traditional leaders to do something. Let the tendamba play their part. Let the chiefs act, and the security agencies will back us,” he urged.

Speaking later at the Wechiau Naa’s Palace, Toobu reiterated the critical role of chiefs and called for collaboration with counterparts in Kalba, Sissala, and Bole, whose communities also lie along the Black Volta.

“This river connects us all. The Black Volta is Wa West, and Wa West is the Black Volta. But the damage stretches beyond into STK, into Bui. We must come together to protect it,” he said.

Dr. Bright Kumawzi, Consultant at Wildlife Institute, Calgary zoo, was also present, signalling international interest in the protection of Ghana’s only Hippo Sanctuary, which is now in peril.

“If we allow this to be destroyed, we lose not just biodiversity but an entire tourism economy that could benefit local people,” Toobu warned.

Toobu cited poor communication networks in the district as a major barrier to real-time intelligence gathering. He expressed hope that the Minister for Communications, Sam George, would intervene to improve network coverage in the region.

“If we must fight galamsey and terrorism, communication must be seen as national security,” he stressed.

The MP called for national unity and intergenerational responsibility.

“Let’s show some love for Ghana. It’s not only the government’s job. We must employ collective security and responsibility. This is a battle we must win for our water, our wildlife, and our very survival,” he advised.

Benin says 54 soldiers killed by al-Qaeda affiliate

0

The attack occurred on April 17. Government spokesman Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji provided a revised casualty toll after authorities initially said only a small number of soldiers had died.

This attack marks another deadly chapter for Benin, a West African country of approximately 14 million people. In January, Benin suffered an assault in which around 30 soldiers were killed.

A West African al-Qaeda affiliate called the Group for Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) claimed responsibility for the attack.

The militant group, which has a history of violent actions in the region, claimed it had killed 70 soldiers and published photos of seized weapons and ammunition, according to the US-based SITE Intelligence Group.

JNIM and offshoots of the Islamic State have been causing instability in countries in the Sahel region – including Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger – for over a decade, seizing control of vast territories.

The violence has increasingly spread to states including Benin, Ghana, Togo and Ivory Coast, where the terrorist groups exploit local ethnic conflicts to seize land and resources.

Within six months, Mtongwiza led the Sables to win the 2024 Rugby Africa Cup in Uganda—their second continental title since 2000. The team was also named Team of the Year at the ANSA Awards, ahead of other top national squads.

“Losson has quickly built a formidable national side and united key stakeholders around a common goal,” said Mr. Mensah.

NPP to drag Mahama to Auntie Naa for suspending Chief Justice

0

According to the communicator, President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to suspend the Chief Justice on the grounds of establishing a prima facie case over three petitions against Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is an act of ‘domestic violence.’

“All the women in Ghana should come together to report President Mahama to Auntie Naa because his action is an act of domestic violence against all women.

Ntim Fordjour’s drug allegations are a complete fallacy – NACOC

0

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has firmly rejected allegations by Assin South Member of Parliament, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, who claimed that two aircraft were being used to smuggle illicit drugs and launder money into Ghana.

President John Dramani Mahama responded to the claims by instructing security agencies to liaise with the MP and conduct investigations into the matter.

However, Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, subsequently dismissed the allegations as “baseless,” accusing the MP of deliberately spreading misinformation to tarnish the government’s image.

Government officials have on several occasions denied the allegations by the MP and have called on the former Deputy Education Minister to provide evidence to back his claims.

In an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News with Selorm Adonoo, Alexander Twum Barimah, Deputy Director General of NACOC, also discredited the claims, calling them entirely unfounded.

“He [Ntim Fordjour] didn’t know what he was talking about; that was a fallacy. It is not something I want us to revisit or even entertain. The person who was saying it was just throwing dust into the air. There was no such thing,” he stated.

The Commission emphasized that no credible evidence had been presented to support the MP’s claims and urged the public to disregard the accusations.

2025 International Pairs Golf Tournament launched in Accra

0

The 2025 edition of the prestigious International Pairs Golf Tournament has officially been launched in Accra, setting the stage for what promises to be another exciting chapter in amateur golf in Ghana.

The brief but colourful ceremony which was held at the Montgomery Golf Estate in Accra on Wednesday, April 23, attracted various stakeholders in the golfing and sports communities such as club executives, sponsors, and media representatives.

The launch also featured an afternoon golf event followed by an evening ceremony highlighting the tournament’s branding and honouring key contributors.

Speaking at the launch, Abdul-Aziz Amankwa, the brain behind the project, said he has high hopes for the future of the sport in Ghana.  He also emphasized the importance of the tournament in promoting golf as a sport accessible to all, while also highlighting Ghana’s rising status on the international golf scene. The International Pairs format, which sees amateur golfers compete in pairs for a chance to represent their country on the global stage, has been widely praised for its inclusiveness and competitive spirit.

“In the next five years I want to see this grow into a 5,000 to 10,000 strong golfing community. We are doing a lot at the junior level to try and get a lot more juniors into golf and we are hoping that their parents will also join them.”

He added; ‘The tournament has significantly boosted interest and participation in amateur golf. More clubs are now incorporating pairs tournaments into their annual calendars, and the social aspect of our events has attracted non-golfers to the sport, broadening its appeal.

Amankwa also said, a large golfing community will inspire the need for more golf courses in the country to improve the standard of the sport.

“You go to some countries and they have 100 plus golf courses, but in Ghana we have 18 to 20 courses.

Since its Ghanaian debut in 2023 under LSM CEO Abdul-Aziz Amankwa, the 27-year-old tournament has become a staple on the local circuit, known for its two-person team format where combined scores determine advancement.

Meanwhile, the qualifiers for the competition will begin on May 3 at the Tema Centre of the World Golf Club, with subsequent rounds at Accra-area courses like Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono. The competition will then move to the Western Region for a three-course rotation before concluding in Kumasi’s Royal Golf Club on May 31. The top 30% of participants at each qualifier will progress to the National Playoff on August 2 at Achimota Golf Club, where the winning pair secures an all-expenses-paid trip to the World Finals in Sun City, South Africa.

The International Pairs tournament has, over the years, attracted thousands of amateur players, making it one of the world’s largest amateur golf competitions. Ghana’s continued participation not only puts local talent in the spotlight but also helps deepen the country’s presence on the global golfing map.

Ghana Olympic Committee Elections Highlight Gender Representation Gap

Mrs. Joyce Mahama, President of the African Women in Sports Association (AWISA) and the Women’s Sports Association of Ghana (WOSPAG), has called for greater inclusion of women in leadership roles within Ghana’s sports governance ahead of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Elective Congress on Saturday.

Speaking during a GH One TV special program organized by the EIB Media Network, Mahama expressed concern that only three women are among the 30 candidates vying for executive positions, falling short of the 30% representation benchmark often advocated for gender parity.

“It is time for women to step into roles as presidents, secretaries, or treasurers—not just serve tea in the background,” Mahama stated. “I am deeply saddened that our female candidates are so few. Women must be included in decision-making to ensure diverse perspectives shape Ghana’s sports future.”

The three women candidates include Delphina Quaye and Rafatu Inusah, both contesting seats on the GOC Executive Board, and Aurora Commodore Toppar, who is running for Assistant Treasurer. Their bids come amid broader discussions about gender equity in African sports leadership, where women remain underrepresented despite incremental progress.

Mahama also addressed recent reports of violence against women in sports, emphasizing AWISA’s commitment to creating safer environments for female athletes. She revealed plans to champion this cause at an upcoming AWISA event in Mauritius this May, where she will deliver a keynote speech on empowerment and protection mechanisms.

The GOC presidential race features two male candidates: Richard Akpokavie, former Secretary General of Ghana Hockey, and Michael Aggrey, Secretary General of the African Golf Confederation. Mahama acknowledged their contributions but stressed the need for systemic change to elevate women’s voices.

EIB Media Network and the GOC Communications Department received praise for platforming the issue, with Mahama urging delegates to “respect, protect, and support” women in sports.

Ghana’s sports landscape mirrors global trends, where women hold fewer than 20% of leadership roles in national Olympic committees, according to a 2024 International Olympic Committee report. Analysts note that cultural biases and limited funding for women’s sports often hinder progress. Mahama’s appeal underscores a pivotal moment for Ghana to align with international standards on gender inclusion, leveraging leadership diversity to drive holistic growth in athletics.

As delegates prepare to vote, the election’s outcome will signal whether Ghana’s sports governance prioritizes inclusivity or perpetuates longstanding gender disparities. For advocates like Mahama, the stakes extend beyond titles they represent a chance to redefine opportunity for future generations of Ghanaian women in sports.

Anger among NDC base over appointment of Lands Commission boss

0

Professor Anthony Owusu Ansah is new Lands Commission boss Professor Anthony Owusu Ansah is new Lands Commission boss

The reported appointment of Professor Anthony Owusu Ansah as Executive Secretary of Ghana’s Lands Commission has ignited a political firestorm, and for good reason.

This isn’t merely a bureaucratic reshuffle. It is a defining moment for the National Democratic Congress (NDC); a test of its commitment to integrity, accountability, and the grassroots movement that fought to restore the party to power.

Professor Owusu Ansah’s ties to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are neither speculative nor distant.

At the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), where he spent several years, he was widely known as a close ally of the current Rector, Professor Sammi Bonsu, an NPP loyalist who, notably, was granted a controversial two-year extension in December 2024 under the former NPP government.

Insiders at GIMPA recall a troubling era of political bias and academic suppression. Pro-NDC lecturers were marginalised.

TEIN (Tertiary Education Institutions Network) student activists were targeted.

Careers were derailed. Voices were silenced.

The environment became one where party affiliation could make or break one’s future.

But what has become of the sacred principle of vetting political appointees? Isn’t National Security or the BNI expected to scrutinise such appointments before public announcements are made? A single trip to GIMPA or a handful of interviews with former students, would have revealed a disturbing trail of unethical conduct.

Reports of awarding unearned grades to favoured students once led to him allegedly failing a vetting exercise.

Even more damning is his reputation among female students, who reportedly nicknamed him “the condom professor”—a crude but telling indication of the discomfort and suspicion that surrounded his presence on campus.

And now, this same individual is being handed control of Ghana’s state lands?

Appointing Professor Owusu Ansah to head the Lands Commission, a body already plagued by allegations of corruption and elite land grabbing, isn’t just a miscalculation. It’s a catastrophe in waiting. It’s like placing a cobra in charge of fresh eggs at a poultry farm: a guaranteed disaster wrapped in official stationery.

Even more unsettling is the reaction from the NPP. According to sources in Nima, some NPP insiders are privately celebrating the appointment. For them, it’s a quiet political victory, one of their own, rewarded by their main opponent.

For the NDC grassroots, it feels like a betrayal.

Professor Owusu Ansah’s move to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) did little to rehabilitate his image.

Former students recall his public outrage when NDC polling station executives pulled off a surprise campus victory. Others say he disparaged voters in Ayawaso West Wuogon as “shallow” for electing John Dumelo, the NDC’s candidate.

These are not the actions of a politically neutral professional. They are the hallmarks of someone whose loyalty lies elsewhere.

So, the critical question must be asked:

Does the NDC truly lack competent, ethical, and loyal individuals capable of leading such a critical agency?

The answer is a resounding no. The party is full of dedicated professionals who have served faithfully, often at great personal cost.

They deserve to be recognised and empowered, not overlooked in favour of someone whose record is stained with partisanship and alleged misconduct.

The NDC cannot afford to confuse reconciliation with capitulation. Political magnanimity should never come at the expense of principle, credibility, or the trust of the party’s base.

Revoking this appointment is not vindictive, it is corrective. It would send a clear message that loyalty matters, integrity matters, and governance must be built on trust, not political appeasement.

Anything less would signal to the rank and file that loyalty is optional—and that those who once worked against the party’s interests now stand to benefit from its victories.

In this moment, the NDC must decide: Will it honour the sacrifices of its base, or will it court the quiet approval of its rivals?

Govt launches Free Sanitary Pad initiative to support schoolgirls

0

The government has officially launched the Free Sanitary Pad Initiative, a programme aimed at distributing sanitary pads to schoolgirls across the country to support their health and education.

The initiative was unveiled on Thursday, April 24, in Accra, with the presence of key stakeholders including ministers, policymakers, education experts, and representatives from various schools.

This intervention aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s broader vision of promoting gender equality and ensuring that every child has access to quality education, regardless of gender or background.

President Mahama had previously emphasised the pressing need to address the barriers girls face due to menstruation. During his maiden State of the Nation Address, he underscored the importance of removing such obstacles:

The programme is expected to ease the financial burden on families, improve school attendance among girls, and enhance their overall health and well-being. By ensuring that girls have access to essential menstrual hygiene products, the initiative aims to create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Stakeholders believe the programme will significantly contribute to increased attendance and retention of girls in schools, helping to close the gender gap in education and empower young women across the country.

Kwabena Adu-Boahene and wife sue AG for alleged defamation

Kwabena Adu-Boahene, (L), Angela Adjei Boateng and Dr Dominic Ayine Kwabena Adu-Boahene, (L), Angela Adjei Boateng and Dr Dominic Ayine

The former National Signals Bureau Chief, Kwabena Adu-Boahen, and his wife have filed a defamation lawsuit against Attorney General Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, following allegations made during a press conference held on March 24, 2025.

During the press conference, Dr Ayine accused the couple of engaging in a number of criminal activities and financial misconduct.

According to the plaintiffs, the accusations were baseless, damaging, and made without any legal or factual justification.

The lawsuit stems from these comments, which the Adu-Boahens claim have tarnished their reputation and were made without supporting evidence.

In their writ, the Adu-Boahens are seeking the following reliefs from the court: an award of exemplary and punitive damages for the publication and/or broadcast of the defamatory statements made during the March 24 press conference; a perpetual injunction restraining Dr Ayine from making further similar statements; and the cost of the legal action, including attorney fees.

Under court rules, Dr Ayine has eight days from the date of service to respond to the suit. Should he fail to do so, the court may issue a default judgment in favour of the plaintiffs.

Kwabena Adu-Boahen was arrested by officials from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Thursday, March 20, 2025, in connection with an alleged financial scandal involving a $7 million cyber defense system contract.

On Friday, March 28, 2025, an Accra High Court reduced the bail conditions for the former Signals Bureau Director from GH¢120 million to GH¢80 million, with two sureties, one of whom must be justified.

The court also ordered that the passports of Adu-Boahen and his wife remain with EOCO, and any travel must receive express permission from the agency.

Doncic Powers Lakers to Game 2 Victory Over Timberwolves

Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic delivered a standout performance with 31 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 94-85 to tie their Western Conference first-round playoff series at 1-1.

Doncic set the tone early, scoring 16 points in the first quarter to lead the Lakers to a commanding 34-15 start. His all-around display kept the momentum going as LeBron James added 21 points and 11 rebounds, with Austin Reaves contributing 16 points in support.

“It was just a question of if we would be more physical or not, and I think we showed that,” said Doncic. “We got up big in the first quarter, we learned from the last game and stuck with it.”

Julius Randle scored 27 points for the Timberwolves, and Anthony Edwards added 25, but the visitors struggled with LA’s defensive adjustments. “It was kind of confusing at times,” Edwards admitted.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Conference, Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 34 points, but the Milwaukee Bucks lost 123-115 to the Indiana Pacers, who now lead the series 2-0. Damian Lillard returned from injury and helped narrow a 15-point gap to two, but the Pacers held firm.

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has been suspended pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has been suspended pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has called for strict adherence to the tenets of the rule of law in the ongoing process for the removal of the country’s current Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo.

In a statement dated April 24, 2025, the GBA emphasised that it expects all individuals involved in the process to align their actions with the provisions of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution to uphold the image of the judiciary.

“While the GBA recognises the constitutional provisions for the removal of the Chief Justice under Article 146 (6) to (10) of the Constitution, and mindful of the fact that the entire matter is currently sub judice, it is the hope and belief of the GBA that all actors involved in this process will be guided by the time-tested tenets of the Rule of Law. In its application, they should follow the spirit of the Rule of Law,” the statement said.

“It is expected that persons playing even the minutest role in this process will bear in mind Article 296 of the 1992 Constitution regarding the exercise of discretion and will act in a manner that safeguards and enhances the independence and image of the judiciary,” it added.

President John Dramani Mahama suspended Chief Justice Torkornoo with immediate effect on April 22, 2025, following three petitions filed against her alleging misconduct.

After the establishment of a prima facie case against the Chief Justice by the President, in consultation with the Council of State, and her subsequent suspension, a five-member committee has been set up to investigate the allegations, with Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie appointed as Acting Chief Justice during the probe.

Health Ministry presents critical equipment to TTH

0

The Ministry of Health has presented a wide range of life-saving medical equipment and consumables to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) as part of efforts to boost the hospital’s capacity to deliver essential healthcare services.

The presentation, made on Thursday, April 24, is seen as a strategic intervention aimed at addressing longstanding logistical and resource challenges faced by the facility, which recently made headlines following industrial action by its medical staff over poor working conditions and an altercation with the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

The consignment includes modern diagnostic tools, life-support systems, and essential hospital furniture.

Notable among the items are two Vinno Ultrasound Scanners with accessories, four defibrillators, five ECG machines, six ICU cardiac monitors, two infant incubators, and multiple ventilators including Vyaire ICU, Drager ICU, and transport ventilators.

In addition, the hospital received:

Other equipment supplied includes wheelchairs, nebulizer sets, digital sphygmomanometers, examination lamps, foetal stethoscopes, oxygen concentrators, patient trolleys, foetal heart detectors, suction bulbs, and kickabout buckets.

The gesture is part of the Ministry’s broader agenda to equip key health institutions with the tools necessary for quality and timely medical intervention, especially in underserved regions.

The presentation comes amid a standoff between the hospital’s medical staff and government officials following what has been described as a “hostile working environment” and a lack of basic resources.

The Doctors’ Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH) recently suspended emergency and outpatient services, demanding better working conditions and official apologies from top officials.

Presenting the items, the Health Minister acknowledged the difficult working conditions health professionals continue to endure and emphasized that government efforts alone would not be enough to resolve systemic issues.

He called for unity across the health sector and urged all stakeholders, including medical doctors, nurses, and pharmacists, to work together to ensure that the country’s limited resources are used efficiently.

He noted that the wellbeing of the ordinary Ghanaian should be central to healthcare delivery, cautioning against practices that marginalize the underprivileged due to resource scarcity.

According to him, every Ghanaian life is valuable, and the system must reflect that belief in both policy and practice.

Hon. Akandoh stressed that his leadership approach is rooted in humility, collaboration, and respect for all health workers. While acknowledging that change may come with challenges, he maintained that cooperation is key to achieving lasting improvements in the sector.

Former head of the Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahen, and his wife have filed a defamation lawsuit against Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, following comments made during a March 24, 2025, press conference.

During the press briefing, Dr. Ayine publicly accused the couple of various criminal acts. The pair allege that these accusations were false, damaging, and made without justification.

In a writ filed on Thursday, April 24, the couple is seeking exemplary and punitive damages, describing Dr. Ayine’s statements as “highly offensive, defamatory.”

They argue that the remarks, made in a widely broadcast public forum, have seriously harmed their reputations both personally and professionally.

In their statement of claim, the plaintiffs are asking the court for:

“a. Exemplary and punitive damages against the Defendant for publishing and/or broadcasting highly offensive, defamatory material of and concerning the Plaintiffs in his press conference dated the 24th day of March 2025.

Ghana to mark World Malaria Day on April 25

0

By Samira Larbie

Accra, April 24, GNA – Ghana will tomorrow, April 25, commemorate World Malaria Day (WMD) with the expectation that government will clearly outline its vision for malaria elimination in the country.

Dr Felicia Owusu-Antwi, National Professional Officer for Malaria at the World Health Organisation (WHO), said that would help stakeholders to understand their roles and responsibilities towards achieving the country’s malaria elimination targets.

She made the call during a webinar, organised by the Centre for Malaria Research at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).

That was in collaboration with the Ghana National Malaria Elimination Programme and the African Media and Malaria Research Network (AMMREN), ahead of the 2025 World Malaria Day celebration.

Dr Owusu-Antwi noted that while malaria elimination may be a long and complex process, it was possible with the right systems in place.

“These include strong surveillance, capacity building, effective partnerships, governance, and cross-border collaboration, underpinned by strong political will,” she said.

“All these cannot be achieved without awareness creation, education, and the advocacy roles played by journalists.”

Citing examples of countries that had successfully eliminated malaria -including Morocco, Sri Lanka, Paraguay, Algeria, Cabo Verde, and Egypt – Dr Owusu-Antwi encouraged the media to continue their efforts in educating the public and advocating a malaria-free Ghana.

The World Malaria Day, observed annually on April 25, highlights the need for sustained investment and political commitment in malaria prevention and control efforts.

The 2025 commemoration is themed: “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite.”

It is a grassroots campaign aimed at reinvigorating efforts at all levels – from global policy to community action – to accelerate progress toward elimination.

The Day was instituted by WHO Member States at the 2007 World Health Assembly to recognise achievements in malaria control and mobilise individual and collective efforts to end the disease.

Global research shows that over the last two decades, more than seven million lives have been saved and over one billion malaria cases prevented.

However, malaria remains one of the world’s oldest and deadliest diseases, killing more than 400,000 people annually, mostly children.

Progress has been made through the use of insecticide-treated bed nets, improved case management for children and pregnant women, preventive medicine during peak transmission seasons, and monitoring insecticide resistance.

According to the WHO,  2021 saw an estimated 247 million cases of malaria worldwide, resulting in approximately 619,000 deaths.

The WHO Africa Region continues to carry a disproportionately high burden, accounting for 95 per cent of all malaria cases and 96 per cent of related deaths.

Children under five years old made up 79 per cent of malaria deaths in the region, it said.

Malaria is a mosquito-borne disease caused by the plasmodium parasite.

It is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito, with the parasite first multiplying in the liver before attacking the red blood cells.

Symptoms include fever, chills, headaches, convulsions, respiratory distress, and in severe cases, unconsciousness and abnormal bleeding.

People with low or no immunity, particularly children and pregnant women, are most at risk.

Prevention strategies include the use of insecticide-treated nets, indoor residual spraying, and antimalarial medications.

Ghana has made significant strides in the fight against malaria, reducing prevalence from 27.5 per cent in 2011 to 8.6 per cent in 2022.

Testing rates have also improved significantly, from 38 per cent in 2012 to 98 per cent in 2022, resulting in a 95 per cent reduction in malaria-related deaths—from 2,799 deaths in 2012 to 151 in 2022.

In 2024, Ghana recorded fewer than 300 malaria deaths, a substantial decline from over 2,000 deaths recorded a decade earlier.

However, it is estimated that at least one person still dies from malaria in the country each day.

Cedi gains momentum as reserves strengthen

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson (Middle) meets investors in USA Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson (Middle) meets investors in USA

The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has assured global investors that the government is actively working to improve the country’s current economic situation and enhance macroeconomic stability.

According to him, the cedi has been relatively stable and has recently gained momentum against major trading currencies.

Dr Forson stated that he engaged with investors, shared updates on Ghana’s economic progress, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline and macroeconomic stability.

“I assured them that the cedi has remained relatively stable and has begun appreciating since last week. Our reserve position is strong, currently covering over four months of import needs.

“These developments come ahead of the full operationalisation of the Ghana Goldbod, which is expected to enhance the cedi’s stability and support the accumulation of foreign exchange reserves. This progress is a testament to prudent economic management and our resilience,” he noted.

Dr Forson also highlighted that the Ghana Revenue Authority recorded strong gains in the first quarter of this year.

“Tax revenues exceeded targets by over 2.4 billion cedis. We are on track to achieve a 1.5% primary surplus this year. This reflects not only strong revenue performance but also disciplined spending. For example, allocations for goods and services have largely been maintained at 2023 levels.

“In short, we are exactly where we need to be. All indicators are trending in the right direction, but we are not complacent. We remain vigilant and committed to sustaining this momentum,” he said.

He further noted that the Bank of Ghana holds significant external reserves to meet coupon and interest payments as they fall due, ensuring continued confidence in the markets.

The Minister added that the government will outline the country’s debt management strategy in the upcoming mid-year budget review, aimed at supporting growth, sustainability, and investor confidence.

The Black Comets during the game against Algeria The Black Comets during the game against Algeria

Ghana’s U-15 boys continued their dominant run at the ongoing CAF African Schools Competition with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Algeria on Thursday, April 24, 2025, securing the top spot in their group and booking a place in the semifinals.

The Black Comets wrapped up the group stage in style, finishing with three wins from three matches, all without conceding a single goal.

Their latest triumph over Algeria was a commanding performance, showcasing both their attacking flair and defensive discipline.

The Ghanaian side controlled proceedings from the first whistle, creating numerous chances and capitalising on defensive lapses by the Algerians. Clinical finishing in front of goal and solid teamwork were once again the hallmarks of their display.

Ghana took control early in their African Schools Championship clash against Algeria, with Festus Gyamfi opening the scoring with a well-taken goal. They doubled their lead before the break through a stunning strike from Cyrus Ankomah, making it 2-0 at halftime.

With this result, Ghana not only tops the group but does so in impressive fashion, boasting a 100% record, a goal difference that reflects their attacking prowess, and a perfect defensive record with three clean sheets.

The team’s discipline at the back and creativity up front have made them one of the standout sides of the tournament so far.

Adu-Boahene, wife sue Attorney General for defamation

0

Lawyers for embattled former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, have filed a defamation suit against the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine.

The suit, filed at the Accra High Court on Thursday, April 24, 2025, was initiated through their counsel, former Abuakwa South MP, Samuel Atta Akyea.

According to the plaintiffs, Dr. Ayine fabricated a false narrative alleging that they had fraudulently used a corporate account to siphon State funds for personal use.

They are seeking exemplary and punitive damages for what they describe as highly offensive and defamatory statements made by the Attorney General during a press conference held on March 24, 2025.

In addition to damages, the plaintiffs are requesting a perpetual injunction to restrain Dr. Ayine from making or facilitating any further publication or broadcast of similar defamatory content.

“The international and widespread opprobrium visited on the plaintiffs by the defendant has become a continued discussion on media outlets and has affected the young children of the plaintiffs, who are ridiculed and taunted by their mates in school,” the suit states.

They are also demanding costs, including legal fees.

“In the natural and ordinary meaning, the words spewed out to the entire world, of and concerning the Plaintiffs by the Defendant, meant and were understood to mean that the plaintiffs are criminals and fraudsters who have embezzled state funds to enrich themselves. Needless to add that the Plaintiffs are involved in money laundering,” portions of the read writ.

We expect doctors to resume work soon

0

Dr. Salifu Alhassan Tiah, Director of Pharmacy and Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), has expressed hope that striking doctors at the facility will soon return to work and resume emergency and outpatient services.

Doctors at TTH began an indefinite suspension of these critical services on April 23, citing a hostile work environment, a shortage of essential medical supplies, and what they described as demeaning treatment by top government officials.

The action followed an emergency general assembly convened by the Doctors’ Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH).

The strike was triggered by a heated exchange during a visit by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh on April 22, which reportedly heightened tensions between the Minister and medical personnel.

In response, the doctors have demanded unqualified apologies from both the Health Minister and the Tamale North MP, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini. These apologies, they insist, must be directed to Dr. Valentine Akwulpwa, the entire medical staff, and especially the Accident and Emergency Department team.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting with the association, Dr. Tiah said, “We met the leadership of the association of doctors of TTH, who narrated to us the circumstances that led to the strike.

“They explained that the officer who was involved in the altercation is traumatised. We pleaded with them, we’re hopeful that latest by Thursday, April 23, or tomorrow, Thursday, April 24, we will hear good news that they have called off the strike.”

Hospital authorities say they remain engaged with all parties involved to help restore services and ensure a peaceful working environment.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang recovering well

President John Dramani Mahama has reassured Ghanaians of the improved health of Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, stating that she is recovering well and remains in high spirits.

Delivering remarks at the official launch of the government’s nationwide sanitary pad distribution initiative on Thursday, April 24, President Mahama acknowledged the Vice President’s absence and shared an update on her condition.

“I wish to extend the greetings of Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to all of you. I spoke to her yesterday and I told her we were going to miss her at this event because this is a programme that is very dear to her,” he said.

“She said I should say hello to all of you and to say she is recuperating and catching a bit of rest. She is very well and soon she will join us to continue to prosecute the reset agenda,” he added.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s health became a public concern after she reportedly fell ill on Friday, March 28, 2025. She was admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the following day for medical attention.

In a statement issued by the Office of the President on Sunday, March 30, it was confirmed that the Vice President had received the necessary treatment and was in stable condition.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications, noted in the release that doctors had recommended further medical evaluation abroad as a precaution, to ensure her full recovery.

Kwabena Adu Boahene, wife sue Attorney General for defamation

0

Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB)

Former Director of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu Boahene, and his wife have filed a defamation lawsuit against the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, over statements made during a press conference held on March 24, 2025.

In the suit, the plaintiffs allege that Dr. Ayine’s public remarks falsely portrayed them as criminals and fraudsters who had embezzled state funds and engaged in money laundering.

It added that these accusations have severely damaged their reputations and caused distress, public ridicule, and emotional harm, particularly affecting their children, who have reportedly faced taunts in school.

“The Defendant also published the full written text of the defamatory material on the worldwide internet,” the suit states, adding that the video of the press conference has been widely circulated on social media and news platforms, resulting in sustained negative public opinion against the couple.

The plaintiffs claim that Dr. Ayine, acting outside his constitutional mandate, deliberately sought to tarnish their image in the court of public opinion without due process. They further allege that his comments were made “recklessly and without regard to candour,” and that he worked in collaboration with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to arrest and detain them without allowing them to present their side of the story.

The statement of claim lists several grievances, including:

  • Publicly branding the plaintiffs as criminals before any court ruling.
  • Disseminating false allegations about the plaintiffs’ travel history and financial dealings.
  • Violating national security laws by exposing sensitive matters.
  • Using media theatrics to determine their guilt and suggest custodial sentences prematurely.

The plaintiffs argue that these actions were driven by malice and an abuse of authority, designed to cause maximum reputational harm.

They are therefore seeking the following reliefs:

  1. Exemplary and punitive damages against the Defendant for publishing and/or broadcasting highly offensive, defamatory material of and concerning the Plaintiffs in his press conference dated the 24th day of March 2025.

ii. An order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant from further publishing and/or broadcasting or causing to be published and/or broadcast the said or similar words defamatory of the Plaintiff.

iii. Costs, including lawyer’s professional fees.

According to Dr Agyemang, an apology would demonstrate good faith and potentially save lives.

Speaking on Pulse on JoyNews on April 24, 2025, Dr Agyemang emphasised that the situation is critical and stressed the need for a swift resolution to the strike.

“In all humility, an open, frank apology will save the situation. Beyond the strike action, it will not be too much from him to save the situation,” he stated.

He expressed hope that an open and frank apology from the minister would help diffuse the tension and bring an end to the industrial action.

“He has demonstrated good faith; he should seal it up with an apology because it will mean a lot to the people of Tamale,” he added.

He made these remarks in reaction to the Tamale Teaching Hospital saga, where doctors have suspended emergency and outpatient services.

Doctors at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) have indefinitely suspended emergency and outpatient services, including the general OPD, antenatal clinic, specialist clinic, and pediatrics OPD.

This decision follows recent developments at the facility, which escalated during a surprise visit by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, resulting in a heated exchange with members of the hospital’s management team.

Additionally, the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Atiku Adam, was subsequently dismissed by the minister due to managerial concerns.

Babs Direction slams local TV stations for ignoring Ghanaian productions

0

Music video director, Babs Direction Music video director, Babs Direction

Popular Ghanaian music video director Awudu Musa, popularly known as Babs Direction, has called on local TV stations to shift their focus from foreign content and invest in original Ghanaian productions.

His comments come after popular Nigerian actress and filmmaker Bimbo Ademoye accused some Ghanaian TV stations of airing her movies without authorization.

Reacting to the controversy in a Twitter post on April 24, 2025, Babs Direction questioned why local TV stations prioritize foreign content over local productions.

“Why are our local TV stations more focused on broadcasting foreign movies, often dubbed in our local languages, instead of investing in original Ghanaian content?” he asked.

He urged collaboration between broadcasters and creatives to develop homegrown content that reflects Ghanaian culture and stories.

“Ghanaian TV stations should bring creatives together to discuss how to collaborate and create content for their platforms,” he added.

Babs Direction’s critique comes amid escalating tensions between Nigerian filmmakers and Ghanaian TV stations over alleged copyright infringement.

Nigerian actress and filmmaker Bimbo Ademoye recently accused Ghanaian broadcasters of airing her movies without permission, sparking a regional debate on intellectual property rights.

Similar grievances have been raised by fellow Nollywood stars Omoni Oboli and Ruth Kadiri, who claim their works are routinely pirated by Ghanaian channels.

In response, Ghana’s Minister of Communication, Samuel Nartey George, and National Film Authority CEO Kafui Danku-Pitcher have pledged to address the issue, with Danku promising “definite actions” within weeks.

Government to roll out an indigenous resource management framework

0

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government plans to implement a resource management framework aimed at enhancing local participation in the natural resource sector.

He emphasised that the government is committed to ensuring that Ghanaians derive maximum benefit from mining and natural resource exploration.

The president made these remarks in relation to the recent renewal of the Gold Fields Damang Mine lease.

Speaking in a video posted by Citi TV on X, he said, “Recently, we had a little issue, which we have resolved, with one of our mining companies whose lease had expired after 30 years. It was our desire to take it over and use Ghanaian expertise to exploit that resource, allowing the benefits to remain in our country.

“Happily, we reached an amicable resolution to work together to transition the mine into Ghanaian ownership. This brings me to a broader point—I believe we must have an indigenisation program to take control of some of our natural resources. In the next few months, we’ll develop a policy on indigenous participation in natural resource exploitation.”

President John Dramani Mahama added that, moving forward, local stakeholders will be engaged to ensure Ghanaians benefit directly from the exploitation of the country’s resources.

He clarified that no one’s concession would be expropriated, but when leases come up for renewal, the government will negotiate for greater Ghanaian involvement.

“You go to the mining areas and look at the communities surrounding these mining centers, they are still steeped in poverty. The government is left to replace schools, plant trees, build CHPS compounds, repair roads, and more.

“We can only address these challenges if we secure more revenue from the natural resource endowments that God has given us. So yes, we will codify this policy, and as opportunities arise, we will renegotiate some of these arrangements to increase Ghanaian participation,” he said.

Interest on individual loans hitting 50%, with no bank offering rates below 20%

The cost of credit for individuals in Ghana remains steep, as no bank is offering household loans at interest rates below 20%.

Borrowers are facing rates as high as 50%, according to the Bank of Ghana’s latest report on Annualized Percentage Rates (APRs) for loans to households, SMEs, and Corporates for March 2025.

According to the report, whether the loan tenure was one, three, or five years, individuals were required to pay interest rates ranging from 20% and over 50%.

For one-year household loans, the most competitive rate was offered by Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited at 23.80%. This was followed by Bank of Africa Ghana Limited with an average rate of 25.93%. GCB Bank Limited offered 27.20%, while Societe Generale Ghana PLC and Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC followed closely at 27.48% and 29.12%, respectively.

Rounding out the top 10 were Standard Chartered Bank (Ghana) Limited at 29.67%, Absa Bank Ghana Limited at 32.08%, Ecobank Ghana Limited at 32.93%, Zenith Bank (Ghana) Limited at 33.24%, and Access Bank Ghana Plc at 33.30%.

The highest average rate for one-year loans was recorded by Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited, at a significant 50.80%.

For three-year loans, Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited again offered the lowest rate at 21.60%, followed by Societe Generale Ghana PLC at 23.17% and Fidelity Bank Ghana Limited at 24.30%. Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited once again recorded the highest rate under this tenure, at 42.57%.

For five-year household loans, Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited, Societe Generale Ghana PLC, and Fidelity Bank Ghana Limited maintained their top three positions with rates of 21.02%, 22.27%, and 22.96%, respectively.

The Annualized Percentage Rate (APR) reflects the total cost of borrowing, combining both interest rates and additional loan-related fees. It serves as a crucial metric for borrowers, providing a comprehensive picture of the true cost of loans from financial institutions.

‘Women are better at cheating than men’

Marriage counselor Reverend Nanayaa Prempeh Marriage counselor Reverend Nanayaa Prempeh

While the age-old debate over who cheats more in relationships continues, marriage counselor Reverend Nanayaa Prempeh has added her voice to the conversation, this time arguing that women are better at cheating in relationships than men.

Speaking during a discussion on Joy Prime on April 24, 2025, Nanayaa Prempeh acknowledged that although men tend to cheat more frequently, it is harder to catch women when they cheat.

According to her, this is because women are simply better at it.

“Women are more dangerous. I keep telling men that they think they can cheat, but when a woman cheats, you can never find out. Women are better cheaters than men, but men cheat more,” she said.

She further stated that women possess more power than men, but often fail to recognise or effectively use it.

“If a woman wants to be president, she can be a better president. You can give men the opportunity to be powerful and respect them, that’s all they need from you as a woman.

“Also, give them all the respect they deserve and take care of the home. Men always get to a point where they behave like babies,” she added.

Paa Kwesi Asare has now joined the Bank of Ghana Paa Kwesi Asare has now joined the Bank of Ghana

From the vibrant hum of radio studios to the hallowed halls of Ghana’s central banking institution, Paa Kwesi Asare’s journey is one woven with grit, intellect, and a passion for impact.

In 2023, the world stood still to applaud him as he was named the winner of the prestigious BBC News Komla Dumor Award—an honor that not only recognized his journalistic excellence but also echoed the legacy of one of Africa’s most revered storytellers.

His name lit up international headlines when he became the first Ghanaian to win the prestigious Komla Dumor Award, nearly a decade after its inception. That historic moment took him to the BBC in London, where he spent three transformative months sharpening his craft and contributing to global journalism—a well-deserved honour that celebrated his depth, integrity, and voice.

But Paa Kwesi’s story didn’t begin there. For close to a decade, he was a pillar at TV3 Ghana, where he rose through the ranks to become the Head of Business News. As host of Business Focus, a weekly program dissecting Ghana’s economic landscape, and anchor of the network’s flagship evening bulletin, he brought clarity to complex issues and inspired trust across boardrooms and households alike.

His voice—firm yet thoughtful—has interviewed some of Ghana’s most iconic business minds, consistently pushing the envelope of economic journalism. Before TV3, he honed his skills across Ghana’s top radio stations—Joy FM, Citi FM, and Starr FM—where his versatility and depth earned him widespread respect.

Behind the scenes, Paa Kwesi was equally relentless in his pursuit of knowledge. He holds two master’s degrees: one in Public Administration from Auburn University in the United States, and another in Digital Marketing from Birmingham City University in the UK. His unique academic blend of governance and digital strategy positioned him perfectly for the future.

That future has now arrived. Paa Kwesi Asare has joined the Bank of Ghana, marking an inspiring transition from media to monetary policy, from shaping narratives to influencing national financial direction. His move is not just a personal achievement—it is a profound symbol of what is possible when talent meets tenacity.

In 2024, EMY Africa honored him for his outstanding contribution to society—a fitting recognition for a man who has consistently used his platform for the public good.

Paa Kwesi Asare’s journey from broadcaster to central banker is not just a change of roles; it is a compelling message to dreamers everywhere: no path is too distant, no reinvention too bold. It’s the story of a man who didn’t just report change—he became it.

Old Tafo MP files suit to overturn Mahama’s suspension of Chief Justice

0

Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, has filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court seeking to halt President John Dramani Mahama’s suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.

The legal action follows President Mahama’s decision on April 22 to suspend Chief Justice Torkornoo after determining a prima facie case from three undisclosed petitions calling for her removal. The President, in consultation with the Council of State, established a five-member committee to investigate the allegations, as stipulated under Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution.

In his suit, Assafuah contends that the President’s actions violate constitutional provisions and threaten judicial independence. He argues that the Chief Justice was not allowed to respond to the allegations before the President initiated consultations with the Council of State, as required by Article 146(6) of the Constitution.

Assafuah, in his suit against the Attorney General, contends that under a correct interpretation of Articles 146(1), (2), (4), (6), and (7), along with Articles 23, 57(3), and 296 of the 1992 Constitution, the President is mandated to notify the Chief Justice about any petition for her removal and obtain her comments before consulting the Council of State.

He further claimed that any process initiated without the Chief Justice’s input violates her fundamental right to a fair hearing and renders the process legally void.

Vincent Assafuah is amongst others requesting “A declaration that the failure by the President to notify the Chief Justice and obtain her comments and responses to a petition for the removal of the Chief Justice before triggering the process for her removal constitutes a violation of the fundamental right to a fair hearing contained in articles 23 and 296, and renders the consultation processes for the removal of the Chief Justice initiated by the President null, void and of no effect”

The Attorney General is expected to respond within 14 days, after which the court will determine the way forward.

‘Placing God first doesn’t guarantee long-lasting marriage’

The General Overseer of Lead Shepherd Authority Bible Church, Rev Nanayaa Prempeh, has sparked reactions after she stated that couples who make the habit of ‘putting God first’ may not necessarily have a happy marriage.

In a discussion on JoyPrime on April 24, 2025, Nanayaa Prempeh noted that nothing can ensure a long-lasting marriage as speculated by some individuals.

She emphasised that putting God first cannot guarantee a successful marriage.

“Being married early never guarantees a long-lasting marriage. Also, marrying the richest man, a same-age person and even a man or woman of God never guarantees a long-lasting marriage.

“Nothing guarantees a long-lasting marriage. Even when people decide to play God first doesn’t guarantee,” she said.

Rev Nanayaa Prempeh, who is also a marriage counsellor, however, noted that if a couple involves God in their marriage, the chances at which the marriage can work is very high.

“The probability that it would work if God is in it is very high. But there are no guarantees because men would always be men and women would always be women,” she added.

Deliver or step aside! – President Mahama to his ministerial appointees

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has urged his ministerial appointees to focus on results and work hard to meet the high expectations of Ghanaians.

Speaking at the opening of a four-day Executive Leadership Program for Ministerial Appointees on Thursday, April 24, 2025, he reminded his ministers that their role goes beyond ceremonial titles.

“You were not appointed to occupy space; you were appointed to solve problems. The Ghanaian people expect us to deliver, not with excuses, but with results.

“We’re not here simply to orient ministers; we’re here to shape a collective mindset,” he said.

President Mahama further declared zero tolerance for under-performance.

“The business-as-usual approach will not work. Indeed, it is dead, and we must bury it once and for all. Please remember, when any of us fall short, I will not hesitate to act,” he added.

Old Tafo MP files injunction application to reverse CJ’s suspension

0

Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Ekow Vincent Assafuah, has moved to challenge the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, filing an application at the Supreme Court to injunct the presidential decision.

The notice of motion, dated April 24, is a direct response to President John Dramani Mahama’s April 22 suspension of the Chief Justice, which was carried out in line with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution after consultations with the Council of State and a determination that a prima facie case existed.
