Stephen Ifeanyichukwu Ejezie, a former quality assurance specialist at Access Bank, was caught secretly recording his colleagues in the restrooms around 1:30 a.m.
According to reports from insiders, Stephen planted the camera in the restrooms to record them when they use the facility.
Sources say that Stephen was arrested and his house raided, but he was later released.

Ibrahim Adjei, a former Assistant Secretary at the Office of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, has cited leadership shortcomings as a major reason for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, April 28, Adjei highlighted President Akufo-Addo’s refusal to reshuffle his ministers—despite persistent internal demands—as a significant factor that contributed to the party’s defeat.
Defending former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent remarks on the party’s performance, Adjei stressed that Bawumia’s public explanation should be viewed as an act of accountability and honesty toward Ghanaians, especially the party’s loyal supporters.
Dr. Bawumia, during his “Thank You” tour in Takoradi on April 26, identified several reasons for the NPP’s electoral loss.
He pointed to the arrogance of power, the rising cost of living, the failure to reorganize government leadership, the unpopular E-Levy, and the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme introduced during the economic crisis.
He further noted that these challenges, combined with the pressures of the IMF debt restructuring programme, left many Ghanaians disillusioned and struggling.
Expanding on these issues, Adjei insisted that former President Akufo-Addo must be held principally responsible for the party’s poor showing, arguing that his reluctance to implement a ministerial reshuffle stemmed from personal loyalty to certain individuals rather than the broader interests of the party.
“I think Bawumia is speaking to a document, and I think that what Ghanaians value across all political parties is honesty. There is something about integrity that resonates very well with Ghanaians. Honesty and integrity are high currencies,” Adjei said.
“Where others say the former vice president is being duplicitous and is somehow extricating himself, I say he is doing what is needed. The arrogance of power is where former president Akufo-Addo should take the large share of the blame. Why could you not reshuffle during these 8 years? You say we have the men and the women, but you kept the same people.
“You had 120 MPs saying that change Ofori-Atta, but you didn’t because of your loyalty to Ken. We understand he banked your campaign, and we thank him for that, but when things are not going on well, you change, and that is the failure of Akufo-Addo,” he added.
National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye
The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has refuted allegations of a confrontation with the Campaign Manager for the NPP’s 2024 general election, Frederick Opare-Ansah.
According to a viral media report, the alleged confrontation led to Opare-Ansah slapping Nana B. However, Nana B has categorically denied these claims.
The report suggested that Opare-Ansah allegedly slapped Nana B for allowing former Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong to address attendees during the ongoing “Thank You Tour.”
On his social media page on April 27, 2025, Nana B emphasised that the party is focused on rebuilding and uniting its members through the ongoing “Thank You Tour” rather than engaging in conflicts.
“My attention has been drawn to online fabrications and media reports suggesting a confrontation between Hon. Opare-Ansah and myself. I categorically state that these claims are baseless and entirely false. There’s no truth to any alleged altercation, including claims of physical confrontation to the extent of Hon. Opare-Ansah slapping me,” Nana B stated.
He further described Opare-Ansah as a respected individual known for his gentle nature, adding that such behaviour would be out of character for him.
“As a matter of fact, our focus remains on constructive efforts to strengthen our party. We are currently engaged in a thank-you tour across the country aimed at uniting the NPP, energising its grassroots, and making preparations for our upcoming ‘SAVE THE JUDICIARY’ demonstration, scheduled to take place in Accra on May 5, 2025,” Nana B added.
The alleged confrontation reportedly occurred during the NPP’s “Thank You Tour” at Takoradi Technical University. However, Nana B has firmly denied the claims, urging the public to disregard the reports.

Former Deputy Attorney General, Diana Asonaba Dapaah, has weighed in on the writ filed by Old Tafo Member of Parliament, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, seeking to halt President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to suspend Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Ghana Bar Association’s 2025 Mid-Year Conference on Saturday, April 26, Dapaah emphasized that the president’s discretion must be exercised in accordance with the Constitution.
According to her, it is a misconception to believe that the president cannot be faulted simply because he acted within his discretionary powers.
“Let’s discard the idea that it is a process [so] the president…couldn’t have done any wrong. The process is measured by the constitution. The exercise of discretion is subject to the Constitution itself. It is totally wrong and flawed to make the argument that the president has exercised his discretion and there can be no fault with it,” she stated.
Questioning the basis for the determination of a prima facie case, Dapaah argued that Assafuah’s case should be heard, as the legal concerns raised are legitimate.
“The constitution itself guides us on what the discretion itself should be. My opinion is that there could not be a prima facie case based on what we all know. If he did not exercise that discretion properly in accordance with the constitution, then you have acted unconstitutionally. Assafuah’s writ for me is not moot,” she added.

Professor Frimpong-Boateng and Jennifer Oforiwaah Queen
A Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jennifer Oforiwaah Queen, has criticised the former Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on Illegal Mining, Professor Frimpong-Boateng, for his handling of the fight against illegal mining popularly known as galamsey during the tenure of the NPP government.
According to Jennifer, Prof Frimpong-Boateng, a former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, failed to effectively tackle the galamsey menace because it was not his area of expertise.
She argued that he should have been bold enough to inform the former president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, that his speciality did not align with addressing galamsey.
Speaking during an NPP live Zoom webinar on the topic “NDC Galamsey Fight U-turn: Hypocrisy or Fan-Fooling?” on April 27, 2028, Jennifer questioned the professor’s qualifications, asking what his speciality had to do with illegal mining.
Jennifer further accused Prof. Frimpong-Boateng of now supporting the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government against the NPP in the fight against galamsey.
“We had Professor Frimpong-Boateng. Your speciality is treating people with heart conditions and issues related to the heart. Yours was broken heart people, so if the government tasked you with tackling galamsey, couldn’t you have told them that it was not your speciality? Instead, you took the position for yourself,” she said.
“You brought videos, counter-videos, secret videos, and even bought drones capable of monitoring those engaging in galamsey. He even said the drone could capture those doing the galamsey from 800 feet away. The drones could track their activities.
“You made the government purchase machines and other equipment, but now you are sitting somewhere, supporting the NDC government.”

Former Hearts of Oak head coach Samuel Boadu has opened up about his departure from the club, offering heartfelt insights into his relationship with Board Chairman Togbe Afede XIV and the circumstances that led to his exit.
Speaking on The BKB Show with Kankam Boadu, Boadu admitted that internal challenges within the club made his position untenable, leading to his decision to move on. However, he holds no bitterness about how things ended.
“No one can erase what I did for Hearts. I left with a smile because the weight was too heavy to carry. I made my peace with it,” he said.

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II

This latest initiative follows a renewed commitment from President John Mahama, who has pledged government support for the Asantehene’s leadership in restoring peace to the troubled area.
In a statement issued on April 15, 2025, Otumfuo announced that the critical peace talks would take place from April 28 to May 1 at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
As the high-stakes dialogue gets underway, Security Analyst, Colonel Festus Aboagye (Retired), has called for broader support to bolster the Asantehene’s mediation.
In an opinion piece, Colonel Aboagye stressed the importance of adopting a multi-track diplomacy approach to complement traditional methods.
He proposed enriching the peace process by involving diaspora leaders, youth influencers, and women’s peacebuilding networks to ensure a more inclusive and lasting resolution.
“Support Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s mediation through multi-track diplomacy, incorporating diaspora leaders, youth influencers, and women’s peacebuilding networks,” he urged.
Colonel Aboagye also cautioned that relying solely on traditional diplomacy might not be sufficient to bridge the deeply rooted divisions that have fueled the conflict.
The mediation sessions at Manhyia Palace are expected to set a new tone in the search for lasting peace in Bawku.

Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate for the 2024 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to take responsibility for the part he played in the party’s overwhelming defeat at the elections.
According to him, it is very hypocritical for Dr. Bawumia to keep attributing the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections to external factors, while insulating himself from any and all responsibility.
Calm has been restored at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) following days of disruption caused by an industrial action by the Doctors’ Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH).
The doctors withdrew their services on April 23, 2025, in protest against perceived disrespect, poor working conditions, and logistical challenges, following a confrontation between a senior doctor and the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, during his visit to the hospital’s Emergency Unit on April 22, 2025.
Eyewitnesses reported that an attempt by Dr Valentine Akwulpwa, the doctor in charge at the emergency ward, to highlight critical challenges facing the hospital turned confrontational, leaving many staff members feeling insulted and demoralised.
This prompted the strike action that paralysed services at the Northern Region’s premier referral facility.
The situation sparked widespread concern, as patients were left stranded without access to critical healthcare services.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Overlord of Dagbon, His Majesty Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari II, intervened by dispatching a high-powered delegation led by Zangbalin Lana Yakubu to engage hospital management, health workers, and regional stakeholders.
Additionally, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health visited Tamale to interact with members of DATTH and assess the situation.
Following these interventions, and in consultation with the National Executive Council of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), emergency services at TTH were restored at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, as a sign of goodwill towards patients.
Subsequently, the Minister of Health expressed regret over the unfortunate incident and reaffirmed his respect for healthcare professionals.
He assured the doctors of his commitment to working with leadership to create a safe working environment and to address the hospital’s pressing logistical needs.
The Minister also personally apologised to Dr Valentine Akwulpwa, the doctor involved in the initial confrontation.
In a demonstration of good faith, the Minister earlier donated critical medical supplies, including emergency drugs, diagnostic equipment, and protective gear, to strengthen the hospital’s capacity.
Following an emergency meeting held on April 26, 2025, the Doctors’ Association called off the suspension of services and resumed work immediately.
The Association, however, outlined key resolutions, including a commitment to the full resumption of services at the hospital, collaboration with hospital management and the Ministry of Health to ensure the availability of logistics and a safe working environment, and continued engagement with His Majesty the Yaa-Naa to address systemic challenges.
They also called on media houses to exercise fairness and circumspection in reporting on health-related issues.
The Association further cautioned that failure to meet logistical demands in the short to medium term could compel it to reconsider its stance.
They pledged to strengthen collaboration with other hospital staff to ensure continuous improvement in healthcare delivery.
Dr Salifu Alhassan Tia, Acting Chief Executive Officer of TTH, expressed profound gratitude to all stakeholders whose interventions contributed to the resolution of the impasse.
“This has been a difficult moment, but the collaboration shown by our traditional leaders, the Ministry of Health, and our dedicated staff demonstrates what we can achieve when we come together. We are committed to restoring and even improving healthcare delivery at TTH,” he said.
Normalcy has since returned to the hospital, with full operations resumed across all departments. However, residents and stakeholders continue to call for systemic reforms to prevent similar disruptions in the future.

A devastating fire tore through a textile shop at Lapaz Market in Accra on Sunday, 27 April, resulting in one person being hospitalised.
The blaze, which erupted on the upper floor of a building, destroyed bedding materials and merchandise valued at millions of cedis.
A young woman, believed to be the shop owner, reportedly collapsed in distress upon witnessing the destruction and was swiftly transported to the Lapaz Community Hospital for medical attention.
Firefighters from the Abelenkpe branch of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded promptly, successfully containing the inferno and preventing it from spreading to adjacent shops.
According to the victim’s mother, who co-owns the business, she was situated on the ground floor when her grandchild alerted her to the fire.
Speaking to Channel One TV, ADO I Emmanuel Akwetey, Operations Officer at the Abelenkpe GNFS, stated that the cause of the blaze remains unclear.
“We tried our best to ensure the fire doesn’t extend to adjoining shops. Our men are still in there conducting investigations, so at the appropriate time, the owner will be invited to our station for the report,” he explained.

A Sekondi High Court presided over by G. K. Gyan-Kontoh ‘J’ has convicted Nana Kofi Nyankum IV a.k.a Kwamena Kumpong and Emmanuel Amo, Ex-parte, two members of the Akona Royal Family of Pretsia in Ahanta Traditional Area for contempt of court.
Their conviction follows disrespect and disregard shown to the Ahanta Traditional Council (ATC).
The background of the matter, according to the court, is that the parties in this matter, are members of the Akona Royal Family of Pretsia who have been engaged in family feud.
“This is an intra family dispute which eventually went to the Judicial Committee of the Ahanta Traditional Council (ATC).
In the course of the pendency of the matter at the Judicial Committee of Ahanta Traditional Council, the applicant (Ebusuapanyin Nyame Ntede Dasinyi) herein, then also an applicant, did apply for and obtained an order of Interlocutory injunction restraining the respondents (Nana Kofi Nyankum IV a.k.a Kwamena Kumpong and Emmanuel Amo,Ex-parte herein from dealing with the property of Akona Royal Family.
The applicant, according to him, is the head of the Akona Royal Family of Pretsia.
He, having been nominated, selected and installed as such by the family”
According to the applicant, the 1st respondent (Chief) and the 2nd respondent from the same family and together, misconducted themselves and mishandled and misplaced the family property and also disrespected the elders of the family and failed to account to the family and so instituted an action against them at the ATC (Judicial Committee) and after applying for, and obtaining an order of interlocutory injunction in the presence of the respondents on 13th December 2021, the respondents disregarded the said ruling and alienated portions of the family land and with intention and deliberate disregard to the ruling of the Judicial Committee.
The respondents executed exhibit D (indenture) on 20th December 2021. For the 2nd respondent to have averred therefore that he signed exhibit D (Indenture) before the ruling of 13th December 2021 is very unfortunate and the 2nd respondent needs to be committed in this act of falsehood.
Indeed, this court is convinced that the 2nd respondent sought to call the bailiff of the Judicial Committee of Ahanta Traditional Council when it delivered it ruling on 13th December 2021 and signed exhibit D (Indenture) on 20th December 2021 to prove to the Judicial Committee that it actually had no teeth to bite.
The 2nd respondent, by that singular act sought to throw his muscles that he was above the authority of the Judicial Committee and so could do what he liked by virtue of his questionable position as the head of family.
For the applicant, the respondents conduct was willful in disregarding the ruling of the Judicial Committee and this amounted to a mockery of the authority of the Judicial Committee and to create mayhem.
According to the applicant, the only weapon left to him now, is to use this court’s armoury of contempt which can reach any person no matter how recalcitrant he might be.
According to the applicant, the respondents ought to be punished and be sent to prison for voluntarily and willfully undermining the authority of the Judicial Committee.
The respondents, although disagreed vehemently with sections of the applicant’s case, the respected judge however upheld the position of the applicant based on the position of law.
“I am convinced beyond any shred of doubt that the respondents are in contempt of court”
On the ruling on Tuesday 15th April 2025, the respected judge stated “I accordingly find the respondents liable and thus proceed to convict them accordingly. I therefore find the respondents guilty of contempt of court and I do hereby convict them accordingly” G.K. Gyan -Kontoh ‘J’ concluded.
The decision, to convict the suspects, Nana Kofi Nyankum IV a.k.a Kwamena Kumpong, 1st respondent, and Emmanuel Amo, Ex- parte 2nd respondent, had stemmed on an application filed on 3rd July 2024 by Ebusuapanyin Nyame Ntede Dasinyi for an order to commit the suspects (Respondents) for contempt of court for interfering and or dealing with the Akona Royal family of Pretsia land.
The applicant, (Ebusuapanyin Nyame Ntede Dasinyi) supported the application with a 19 paragraphed affidavit and some annexures marked as exhibits.
These included, a copy of the writ of summons and statement of case, a copy of the application for an interlocutory injunction, the ruling on the application for an interlocutory injunction, a copy of indenture, a copy of obituary, a copy of the motion on notice and a copy of the notice of appeal.

Less than a week after calling for the rule of law to prevail, the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has made a stunning reversal, now urging the President to revoke the suspension of the Chief Justice.
This abrupt shift has drawn sharp criticism from Prof. Stephen Kwaku Asare, legal expert and Democracy and Development Fellow at CDD-Ghana, who insisted that the GBA must first confront pressing constitutional concerns before advocating for such a course of action.
Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama has highlighted the strong technical and policy support received from Ghana’s international partners, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Dr Asiama disclosed that the Bank is currently working on a new legal framework aligned with modern economic realities and supported by the Bretton Woods institutions.
He further indicated that the Bank of Ghana does not expect to declare a loss this year, signalling improved financial management and institutional stability.

Dr Asiama said this when the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson led Ghana’s delegation to the IMF/Spring Meetings to meet with the Ghana Heritage Club at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC.
This was a purposeful and forward-looking engagement with Ghanaian professionals embedded within the IMF and World Bank systems, a statement issued by the Finance Minister after the meeting on Friday, April 26, said.
The President of the Heritage Club, Kofi Tsikata, welcomed the delegation and shared that approximately 350 Ghanaian staff are currently working within the IMF and World Bank in Washington. Globally, that number exceeds 700—underscoring the growing influence and presence of Ghanaian professionals in global economic institutions.
Dr. Forson emphasized Ghana’s strong and cooperative relationship with both the IMF and the World Bank.
He noted the recent increase in the World Bank’s Development Policy Operation (DPO) facility to over $400 million as a mark of confidence in Ghana’s reform efforts.
More importantly, he stressed that the focus should not be solely on the amount of borrowing, but on how the borrowed funds are used. There is now a clear shift toward borrowing for impactful investments rather than non-productive expenditures such as capacity building or consultancy contracts with limited national benefit.
His message was one of financial discipline, strategic planning, and accountability—prioritizing projects that yield tangible benefits for the Ghanaian people.
Also present at the meeting were Senior Economic Advisor to the President, Seth Emmanuel Terkper, and Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson.

Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) is once again in the spotlight—not for its operational struggles or long-standing debt burdens, but for concerns surrounding governance and compliance under its new leadership.
At the heart of the issue is Dr. Yussif Sulemana, the recently appointed Managing Director of the only state-owned refinery.
The country has been able to reduce deaths caused by malaria by over 97% between 2014 and 2024.
In addition to this, outpatient department cases have also seen a three per cent decline, while hospital admissions due to malaria have fallen by 17%.
At an event to commemorate the 2025 World Malaria Day, the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, said the country’s National Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan (2023 to 2028) aimed to reduce deaths caused by malaria by 51%.
In a speech read on his behalf by the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, at the event, the minister stated that under the plan, there was also a target of 36% drop in under-five malaria case fatality rate in 2024, using 2022 as a baseline, emphasising that there was also a plan to ensure a steady roll-out of malaria vaccine with over 70% coverage for the first dose.
“We will continue to expand effective interventions such as indoor residual spraying, insecticide-treated nets distribution, seasonal malaria chemo prevention, intermittent preventive treatment for pregnancy, case management, malaria vaccines, and other new interventions,” he said.
He, therefore, called on all to sustain the momentum by inspiring action in every home, school, and district to help eradicate malaria.
“Let us ensure that every Ghanaian, young or old, understands that malaria elimination begins with us.
“Together, with commitment, knowledge, and collective action, we can, and we will make history,” he added.
Commemoration
The day is commemorated on April 25 each year to raise awareness of the global effort to control and ultimately eradicate malaria.
The day highlights the need for sustained investment and political commitment in malaria prevention and control efforts.
The 2025 commemoration is on the theme: “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite”.
It is a grass-roots campaign aimed at reinvigorating efforts at all levels — from global policy to community action — to accelerate progress toward elimination.
The Holy Child R/C Basic School, Tema West, won this year’s malaria quiz, grabbing tablets, and projectors, among other prizes.
Efforts
The Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, said the improvements were the result of dedicated efforts by “our health workers, policy makers, partners and the communities who continue to engage and respond”.
“Our investment in data-driven planning, targeted interventions and community mobilisation is clearly yielding results,” he said.
Giving updates on the progress made so far, Dr Asiedu-Bekoe said the Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) campaign was successfully implemented across 28 districts.
“Through collaborative effort and strong field coordination, the GHS had achieved an impressive coverage rate of 53%,” he stated.
Model communities
In addition to that, the GHS Director of Public Health said there had been the successful distribution of over 19 million insecticide-treated nets during the recent mass campaign.
In the 21 districts earmarked for elimination, he said they had recorded a notable reduction in malaria positivity rates from 20.9% to 16%.
These districts, he said, were becoming models of what was possible when leadership, community ownership, and smart interventions align.
“The Government of Ghana demonstrated its continued commitment to malaria elimination by directly supporting the implementation in two of these districts.”
“This is a testament to the power of partnership and national ownership in driving progress towards a malaria-free Ghana,” he said.

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has refuted allegations of a confrontation with the Campaign Manager for the NPP’s 2024 general election, Frederick Opare-Ansah.
According to a viral media report, the alleged confrontation led to Opare-Ansah slapping Nana B. However, Nana B has categorically denied these claims.
The report suggested that Opare-Ansah allegedly slapped Nana B for allowing former Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong to address attendees during the ongoing “Thank You Tour.”
On his social media page on April 27, 2025, Nana B emphasised that the party is focused on rebuilding and uniting its members through the ongoing “Thank You Tour” rather than engaging in conflicts.
“My attention has been drawn to online fabrications and media reports suggesting a confrontation between Hon. Opare-Ansah and myself. I categorically state that these claims are baseless and entirely false. There’s no truth to any alleged altercation, including claims of physical confrontation to the extent of Hon. Opare-Ansah slapping me,” Nana B stated.
He further described Opare-Ansah as a respected individual known for his gentle nature, adding that such behaviour would be out of character for him.
“As a matter of fact, our focus remains on constructive efforts to strengthen our party. We are currently engaged in a thank-you tour across the country aimed at uniting the NPP, energising its grassroots, and making preparations for our upcoming ‘SAVE THE JUDICIARY’ demonstration, scheduled to take place in Accra on May 5, 2025,” Nana B added.
The alleged confrontation reportedly occurred during the NPP’s “Thank You Tour” at Takoradi Technical University. However, Nana B has firmly denied the claims, urging the public to disregard the reports.

Ghana is on track to issue its first Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) License by June 30, 2025 to affirm that its forest products are from legal sources.
This milestone will make Ghana the first country in Africa and the second in the world to achieve this feat, the Minister of Lands and Forestry, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has disclosed.
The Minister made this announcement during a courtesy call on him on Thursday by the European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Irchad Razaaly.
The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the enduring bilateral cooperation between Ghana and the EU and explore further collaboration areas.
Regarding the implementation of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA), a legally binding trade agreement between the EU and timber producing countries, ratified by Parliament in 2009, the Minister noted that Ghana had made substantial progress in strengthening forest governance systems.
“All is set for the issuance of Ghana’s first FLEGT License. The only outstanding task is the ratification of a second batch of Timber Utilisation Contracts (TUCs), which we expect Parliament to address after the Easter break,” he stated.
Looking ahead, the Minister emphasized key areas for strengthened cooperation, including investments in logistics, capacity building, and technology to aid the deployment of the Wood Tracking System (WTS) and the Ghana Legality Assurance System (GhLAS).
He also urged the EU for assistance in developing large-scale commercial plantations and the Tree for Life Reforestation Initiative.
Additionally, the Minister emphasized other areas that require assistance, such as logistical support in the ongoing fight against illegal mining, land reclamation, restoration of polluted water bodies, and technical aid to modernise the timber industry.
He also highlighted the need for climate financing to promote sustainable forest management.
The Minister reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with the European Union (EU), particularly in sustainable forest governance.
Mr Buah acknowledged the Union’s critical role in Ghana’s external trade, describing the EU as one of Ghana’s most significant trading partners, which accounted for approximately 14 per cent of trade volumes in 2022.
The minister expressed gratitude to the EU for its continued support to Ghana’s natural resources and environmental sector and looked forward to a stronger and more fruitful partnership in the years ahead.
The EU published the FLEGT in 2003 with wide-range measures for member states to tackle illegal logging in the world’s forest, and to ensure that no illegal timber or timber products can be sold in the EU.
Illegal logging involves harvesting, processing, transporting, buying or selling timber in breach of national and international laws.
President John Dramani Mahama and Gertrude Araba Torkornoo
The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has hinted that the pending removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo is linked to alleged plans to enable President John Dramani Mahama to contest for a third presidential term.
He says discussions around this matter are already circulating and will soon become public knowledge.
Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on April 24, 2025, he explained that the argument revolves around Article 66(2) of the Constitution, with some individuals allegedly planning to interpret it in a way that suggests the two-term limit applies only to two successive terms.
This interpretation, he said, would pave the way for President Mahama to contest again.
“I am telling you, certain people plan to interpret Article 66(2) of the Constitution to mean that the two-term limit refers to two successive terms. Therefore, because Mahama contested and lost before winning later, they argue that he is eligible to contest again since his terms were not successive,” he stated.
“Mark today’s date, April 24, 2025, we will return to this issue. If that were not the case, the Chief Justice would not have been asked to stay home based on a frivolous petition,” Kodua added.
His comment follows President Mahama’s suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo following the establishment of a prima facie case against her.
The action was taken in accordance with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State in relation to three petitions filed against the Chief Justice.
A statement dated Tuesday, April 22, 2025, explained, “President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Article 146(6) of the Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, determined that a prima facie case has been established in respect of three petitions against the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.”
It further stated that the President had set up a five-member committee to investigate the petitions. The members of the committee are:

•Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, Justice of the Supreme Court (Member)
•Daniel Yaw Domelevo, Former Auditor-General (Member)

“Pursuant to Article 146(10) of the Constitution and in accordance with the advice of the Council of State, the President has, by a warrant, suspended the Chief Justice with immediate effect pending the outcome of the committee’s proceedings,” the statement added.
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, born on September 11, 1962, in Cape Coast, was sworn in as Ghana’s 15th Chief Justice on June 12, 2023, by then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, becoming the third woman to hold the position.
She joined the judiciary in 2004, was elevated to the Supreme Court in 2019, and has been credited with driving reforms such as the E-Justice system. Justice Torkornoo is also an accomplished author and poet.

Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama has highlighted the strong technical and policy support received from Ghana’s international partners, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Dr Asiama disclosed that the Bank is currently working on a new legal framework aligned with modern economic realities and supported by the Bretton Woods institutions.
He further indicated that the Bank of Ghana does not expect to declare a loss this year, signalling improved financial management and institutional stability.

Dr Asiama said this when the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson led Ghana’s delegation to the IMF/Spring Meetings to meet with the Ghana Heritage Club at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC.
This was a purposeful and forward-looking engagement with Ghanaian professionals embedded within the IMF and World Bank systems, a statement issued by the Finance Minister after the meeting on Friday, April 26, said.
The President of the Heritage Club, Kofi Tsikata, welcomed the delegation and shared that approximately 350 Ghanaian staff are currently working within the IMF and World Bank in Washington. Globally, that number exceeds 700—underscoring the growing influence and presence of Ghanaian professionals in global economic institutions.
Dr. Forson emphasized Ghana’s strong and cooperative relationship with both the IMF and the World Bank.
He noted the recent increase in the World Bank’s Development Policy Operation (DPO) facility to over $400 million as a mark of confidence in Ghana’s reform efforts.
More importantly, he stressed that the focus should not be solely on the amount of borrowing, but on how the borrowed funds are used. There is now a clear shift toward borrowing for impactful investments rather than non-productive expenditures such as capacity building or consultancy contracts with limited national benefit.
His message was one of financial discipline, strategic planning, and accountability—prioritizing projects that yield tangible benefits for the Ghanaian people.
Also present at the meeting were Senior Economic Advisor to the President, Seth Emmanuel Terkper, and Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson.
The meeting with the Ghana Heritage Club underscored the important role of the Ghanaian diaspora in global development institutions and reinforced the call for deeper collaboration between homegrown policy leadership and international expertise. The Western Central Regional Police Command has picked up three suspects concerning a robbery incident at Wassa Afransie in the Western Region.
The suspects were said to have robbed Mas Palasco Gold Buying Limited employees of gold valued at GH¢199,000.00 and other valuables.
Speaking to journalists at the Regional Police Command headquarters, Tarkwa, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Desmond Boampong, the Western Central Regional Police Commander, said the suspects were Felix Adjei, alias Africa or Nana Adjei, Kofi Appiah, alias Jesse, and Emmanuel Kelvin, a Nigerian.
He said on April 4, 2025, Kofi Appiah, a driver for Mas Palasco Gold Buying Limited, and another employee, Emmanuel Adu, were returning from Wassa Ayiem after collecting a quantity of gold from a client when armed men ambushed them, firing warning shots.
DCOP Boampong said the suspects made away with 14 pounds of gold, two mobile phones, and an unregistered Toyota Corolla vehicle, which was later abandoned in a nearby community.
Following further investigations, the Regional Commander stated that Kofi Appiah was apprehended at his Wassa Akropong residence on April 21, 2025.
He added that the police later picked up the other two suspects at their hideouts.
The suspects were found in possession of a Jojeft pump action gun with butt number 168316, a Calymm PDS pistol without a serial number, 25 rounds of 9mm ammunition, an AA cartridge, two G3 ammunitions, a locally manufactured pistol, and an amount of GH¢ 65, 000 in cash believed to be proceeds from the robbery.
DCOP Boampong said all the items have since been retrieved, and the suspects were in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.

Ghana’s much-heralded Aayalolo Bus System, officially known as the Quality Bus System (QBS), appears to be drifting from its original purpose under the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE) project.
Once envisioned as a modern, efficient urban transport system, the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) initiative is now facing serious setbacks, with operations along key routes gradually resembling ordinary commercial buses, popularly known as “trotro.”
The system now operates Bus Slow Transit (BST).
Launched in 2016 with an estimated project cost of $95 million and funding from the World Bank, the BRT was designed to offer fast and reliable transit services using dedicated lanes for quick movement between major locations in Accra and surrounding towns.
The initial plan covered routes between Accra and Amasaman, Ofankor, Adentan, Tema, and Kasoa.
However, current observations suggest a steady decline in standards, especially along the Accra–Amasaman route.
Commuters have raised concerns about the conduct of Aayalolo drivers, who now stop indiscriminately to pick up passengers along the roadside, contrary to the original plan, which mandated designated stops only.
Instead of operating with the discipline expected of a BRT system, the buses now frequently compete with regular commercial vehicles, significantly delaying travel time.
Passengers report that drivers often stop even when buses are filled, creating inconvenience and defeating the system’s efficiency goals.
For instance, a bus departing from Amasaman or Pokuase is supposed to make its first stop at Achimota Overhead.
However, drivers now pick up passengers at various points along the Accra–Nsawam highway, blurring the line between BRT and regular transport services.
In an attempt to get clarity on the status of the BRT service, Classfmonline.com contacted the Aayalolo customer care centre at 0531088043.
A representative who answered the call around noon said the Public Relations Officer (PRO) was out for lunch and would return by 1:00 p.m.
However, subsequent attempts to reach the office around 2:00 p.m. went unanswered.
As the situation continues to raise public concern, it remains to be seen whether GAPTE and relevant transport authorities will take steps to restore the Aayalolo system to its intended function as a true Bus Rapid Transit service.

The Member of Parliament for Bekwai Constituency, Ralph Poku-Adusei, has assured constituents of imminent improvements in sanitation following a stakeholder meeting addressing the area’s persistent waste management issues.
The meeting, part of a working visit by the Parliamentary Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources, involved the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, Environmental and Sanitation officers, Zoomlion Ghana, and representatives from the Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant.
The discussions revealed several challenges plaguing the constituency, including inadequate Zoomlion waste containers, inefficiencies in the Sanitation Improvement Plan (SIP), fumigation difficulties, and problems with the final dumping site at Sesekro.
To tackle these issues, stakeholders agreed on the urgent need for a mobile transfer station or a compost recycling plant in Bekwai to convert refuse into organic manure, enhance household waste collection, and create job opportunities.
Poku-Adusei, who serves as the Deputy Ranking Member on the Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources, highlighted his ongoing efforts to improve sanitation in the constituency.
He noted that he had previously facilitated the clearing of decades-old refuse dumps at Kokofu, Poano, and Adjamesu. However, he acknowledged that more work is required to address the sanitation crisis fully.
Speaking at the meeting, the MP reiterated his commitment to leveraging his position to advocate for initiatives to enhance sanitary conditions in Bekwai.
He disclosed that he has engaged the Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant management to collaborate with the Municipal Assembly and other stakeholders to establish a compost and recycling plant in the constituency. The proposed facility would serve Bekwai and neighbouring constituencies.
As part of his “Clean Bekwai” campaign, Poku-Adusei emphasised that the project is a priority aimed at fostering a cleaner and healthier environment while generating employment for residents.

The competence of the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has come under scrutiny over recent happenings in the political party.
Atik Mohammed, who has been the general secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC) in the past, believes he is not fit to occupy such an august position in a big political party as the NPP.
The General Manager for External Communications at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, has urged customers experiencing power outages to promptly report the issues to enable swift intervention.
His appeal follows a surge of complaints across the country, particularly in Accra, where residents have been grappling with erratic power supply, commonly known as dumsor.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Sunday, 27 April 2025, Mr Nii Ayiku Ayiku apologised for the inconvenience caused and explained that not all faults are immediately detected by the company’s monitoring systems.
“I do apologise for the challenges some of our customers are experiencing. With some of our systems, you would have to call our district office or helpline for us to do the restoration of power for you,” he said.
“For some, we are not able to see on our systems, so it is always advisable to call our fault team to come over. Because some of the challenges are just transient tripping, and if we are not aware, it is difficult for us to know.
“So, when it happens like that, we want to urge our customers to kindly reach out to us and inform us. We will come quickly and restore power,” Mr Nii Ayiku Ayiku added.

Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo
Senyo Hosi, an economic policy analyst, has rejected suggestions that the petitions for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo are politically motivated.
In a televised discussion on Saturday, April 26, 2025, Hosi argued that the independence of the constitutional process, particularly the role of the 31-member Council of State, should not be undermined by partisan speculation.
“The idea that 31 distinguished members of the Council of State can be so easily swayed by political interests is an insult to their intelligence. This is not about politics; it is about procedure and the rule of law,” he said.
His remarks come amid political tensions over the petitions to remove the Chief Justice, as excerpts of those petitions and her response were circulated online.
Hosi acknowledged that while the Chief Justice may not be universally popular, the legal merits of the petition, not political considerations, should determine the outcome.
“The question of whether this is politically motivated is irrelevant if there is no substantive basis for removal. What matters is whether due process is followed, and so far, the mechanisms in place ensure fairness,” he said.
Hosi cautioned against the public circulation of the petition, warning that premature debates could prejudice the proceedings.
However, he maintained that the involvement of multiple independent bodies, including Parliament and the Judiciary, provides sufficient checks against bias.
“The system is designed to prevent any single entity from hijacking the process,” he noted. “Those suggesting otherwise are either misinformed or deliberately casting doubt on institutions that uphold our democracy.”
Hosi said the established legal framework to address the petitions must be trusted.
“Let the process run its course without unfounded accusations. Ghana’s institutions are stronger than partisan agendas,” he added.
