0

One person has been injured while three others escaped unhurt in an accident on the Akatsi bypass in the Volta Region.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the crash occurred on Friday, November 28, 2025, and involved a Hyundai Elantra Touring with registration number DV 6502Z-25 and an Opel Astra with registration number GT 6464-W.

Personnel from the Akatsi Fire Station swiftly responded to the scene, and upon their arrival, the injured victim had already been rescued and taken to the Akatsi Municipal Hospital for treatment.

The three other occupants were assessed and found to be uninjured.

Fire personnel quickly secured the area to prevent further risks. Their efforts included stabilising the vehicles, managing traffic along the bypass, and ensuring the damaged cars were removed from the road to avert additional accidents.

The GNFS said the coordinated actions of its crew not only protected the victims but also helped maintain safety and order on the busy stretch.

Nicholas Opoku impresses in Kasimpasa defeat

0

Ghanaian center back Nicholas Opoku excelled in Kasimpasa’s 3-1 defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish League on Saturday.

Opoku started and lasted the entire duration of what was his 14th consecutive game for Kasimpasa this season.

The 28 year-old’s brilliance was not limited to defense, as he helped his side with some quality passing in their build up.

By the end of the match, Opoku had made thirty-one accurate passes, providing a ticket out of Basaksehir’s intense pressing.

Last season, the center back played twenty-seven league matches for Kasimpasa in the Turkish top-flight, only missing their remaining matches through injuries or suspensions.

Opoku’s consistency improves Ghana’s options in central defense ahead of next year’s World Cup.

The former Amiens defender is already familiar with the national team, having made thirteen appearances for the Black Stars since his debut in 2017.

“It Is Finished” Malik Basintale’s Bold Call for Forgiveness Sparks Attention

0

Malik Basintale, Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), delivered a striking message of closure and renewal, declaring, “Whatever happened in the past is forgiven. We’re now focusing on the future. I only have three words: it is finished.”

The remarks, made during a press briefing, have sparked discussion across the country. By calling for forgiveness and a focus on the future, Basintale is urging political leaders, party members, and citizens to put past grievances aside and embrace unity. In a political climate often characterized by polarization, his statement carries both weight and hope.

Among NDC supporters, the message has been widely celebrated as a sign of maturity and determination to mend divisions within the party. Many social media users commended Basintale, with one tweeting, “This is leadership at its best acknowledging the past, but moving boldly forward.”

Nevertheless, some critics remain doubtful, questioning whether this expression of reconciliation will translate into tangible action. “Words are easy; will the deeds follow?” one observer asked, voicing a common concern about political gestures.

Regardless of public opinion, Basintale’s statement has set the stage for a renewed focus on collaboration and forward planning within the NDC. By promoting forgiveness and shared purpose, he underscores that effective leadership requires more than policy it demands empathy and vision.

As the nation reflects on his words, it becomes evident that Ghana’s path forward depends on unity, cooperation, and a collective commitment to building a positive political future.

Stunning African Prints to Rock an Occasion

0

African prints have long been celebrated for their vibrant colors, bold patterns, and deep cultural significance. Whether you’re attending a wedding, birthday celebration, or formal dinner, these prints offer a unique way to stand out while embracing heritage. Today, African fashion designers continue to reinvent traditional fabrics like Ankara, Kente, Kitenge, and Shweshwe, creating outfits that are stylish, modern, and perfect for any special occasion.

One of the most captivating aspects of African prints is their versatility. For women, Ankara gowns remain a timeless favorite—ranging from mermaid silhouettes to flowy maxi dresses. These designs often incorporate intricate patterns that highlight elegance and confidence. For a more dramatic entrance, layered or ruffled skirts paired with off-shoulder tops allow for a balanced blend of tradition and contemporary flair. Jumpsuits made from African prints are also gaining popularity, offering comfort and sophistication in one bold statement piece.

Men are not left behind in this vibrant fashion movement. Tailored African-print blazers, shirts, or agbada outfits bring richness and personality to any event. Incorporating subtle accents—like a printed pocket square or collar—can also add cultural charm to a classic look without overwhelming it.

Accessories made from African fabrics further elevate any outfit. Headwraps, clutch bags, and statement jewelry crafted from authentic prints bring cohesion and style to the ensemble. The beauty of African prints lies not only in their aesthetics but in the stories they tell—stories of identity, unity, and artistry.

Ultimately, rocking African prints at an occasion is more than a fashion choice; it is a celebration of culture, creativity, and individuality. With countless patterns and designs to choose from, you can always find the perfect piece to shine and make a lasting impression.

WAEC cancels results of 653 candidates, withholds thousands more

0

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has cancelled the entire results of 653 candidates who sat for the 2025 WASSCE, following confirmed cases of examination malpractice, with thousands more facing additional sanctions.

In a statement signed by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs John Kapi, the council highlighted that investigations approved by the Ghana Examinations Committee at its 40th meeting showed that the 653 candidates were found with mobile phones in examination halls, an offence that triggers automatic cancellation of all results.

Also, 6,295 candidates had their subject results cancelled for bringing foreign materials such as prepared notes, textbooks and printed sheets into exam centres. A further 1,066 candidates, including 908 with withheld subject results and 158 with withheld entire results, remain under scrutiny for various suspected offences.

WAEC also revealed that subject results from 185 schools have been withheld over alleged collusion, with final outcomes expected before the end of December 2025.

The Council indicated that 35 individuals, including 19 teachers, were implicated in activities that compromised the integrity of the exams. Nineteen have already been convicted and the remaining 16 are yet to be arraigned.

WAEC extended appreciation to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, school heads, supervisors and exam officials for supporting the conduct and release of the 2025 WASSCE results.

GFL boss urges NDC to contest all disputed seats

0

The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Mr. Abraham Koomson, has called on the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to remain steadfast and aggressively pursue every parliamentary seat affected by legal or electoral disputes.

Mr. Koomson believes that winning such seats—particularly those currently held by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)—will weaken the party’s influence and curb any possibility of its return to power, which he argues would be detrimental to Ghanaian workers.

Afriyie Acquah rates who was the better Black Stars captain between Gyan and Dede

0

Dede (L) and Gyan (R) are former captains of the Black Stars Dede (L) and Gyan (R) are former captains of the Black Stars

Former Black Stars midfielder Afriyie Acquah has offered a rare insight into the much-debated leadership styles of Asamoah Gyan and Andre Dede Ayew, insisting that the two iconic captains were virtually identical in how they led the national team.

Acquah, who featured at the 2014 World Cup and the 2015, 2017, and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, worked under both captains during his eight-year stay with the Black Stars.

Between 2014 and 2017, Gyan served as captain, with Dede as his assistant. In 2019, the hierarchy changed: Gyan became General Captain, while Ayew was promoted to substantive captain, a switch many fans believed created tensions and divided loyalties within the squad.

But speaking on Aluta FM, the former Torino midfielder dismissed suggestions that the two leaders brought different philosophies that split the camp.

When asked to choose which of the two he preferred as a captain, Acquah emphasised that both were equally effective.

Why Ghana’s 1982 AFCON trophy was handed over in a hotel room

“Both are good because when Asamoah was captain, Dede was the assistant, and during my eight years with the team, I was with them throughout. I can’t say who was better. They were on par when it came to leadership,” he said.

Acquah went on to explain that neither Gyan nor Ayew acted as an authoritarian figure in decision-making.

According to him, leadership in the Black Stars was a collective process involving several senior players.

“They were not taking decisions alone. Their leadership showed more on the pitch. But we had senior players who took decisions before the captain even presented it to the coach. You can’t take decisions alone because you are the captain, we all have to agree on what is worth presenting,” he revealed.

Old students of Achimota School surround casket, bid tearful farewell to Nana Konadu

0

Old students of Achimota School delivered one of the most poignant moments at the state funeral of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings on Thursday, as members of the 1966/67 combined year group gathered around her casket to honour her memory.

In keeping with Achimota’s tradition, the group formed a tight circle around the casket before reading their tribute.

Choked with emotion, they sang the school hymns, with many breaking into tears as they recalled their days together nearly six decades ago.

Nana Konadu, who entered Achimota School in 1961, was remembered not only as a national figure but also as a vibrant, gifted student whose influence extended far beyond the classroom.

According to the group, she was “a force of nature” even in her teenage years—creative, confident, and effortlessly influential.

She was widely known for forming a girls’ musical group and earned admiration for her powerful rendition of Aretha Franklin’s , a performance her classmates still remember vividly.

She was equally gifted in ballet choreography, often taking lead roles in school operettas that consistently drew large audiences.

One of the most striking memories shared was her standout performance during Queen Elizabeth II’s 1961 visit to Ghana. Nana Konadu, then a schoolgirl, captivated the crowd with her splits and handstand routines, earning recognition as the star of the show.

Beyond the stage, she excelled in sports, including athletics, swimming, and lawn tennis, representing Achimota both locally and internationally.

As their tribute concluded, the former students placed their hands on the casket, pausing in quiet reflection to deliver an emotional farewell to a woman whose impact touched everyone who crossed her path.

Meet the Asantehene who was installed at age 16

0

The Asantehene, Nana Prempeh I, was enstooled King of the Ashanti Kingdom when he was just about 16 or 17 years of age. This was in March 1888, with the stool name Nana Kwaku Dua III, according to historical accounts.

This name, however, was later changed to Prempeh I. Because of the civil war that preceded his enstoolment, the chiefs who did not support him continued to cause trouble.

According to eaumf.org, among the states that opposed his enstoolment were Kokofu, Mampong, Nsuta, Adanse, and Dadiase. The states that supported him included Kumase, Bekwai, Dwaben, Edweso, Offinso, and Nkoranza.

The Edwesohene was the war general for Nana Prempeh’s faction during the civil war; therefore, after the war, his stool was elevated to paramount status. The other Asona towns within the Kingdom, which had previously served Kumase directly but had become scattered, were all placed under Edweso, as requested by Dikopim. (Dikopim’s request had not materialised during Nana Tutu’s reign because of opposition from the scattered Asona towns.)

According to oral tradition, the defeat of Atwereboana’s supporters made them desert their towns. The people of Kokofu crossed the Pra River into the Protectorate, while those from Mampong and Nsuta went to Atebubu. There was even an attempt by the people of Mampong to become British subjects.

This period coincided with the Scramble for Africa, and the British Government decided to colonise Asante by all means. The Governor wrote many letters to the King on the matter, but Nana Prempeh I did not yield to his suggestions because they were always accompanied by threats.

According to Kimble, in one of the letters the Government promised to pay the King six hundred pounds sterling (£600) per annum. It also promised to pay the chiefs of Mampong, Kokofu, Bekwai, Dwaben, and the Queen Mother a total of one thousand four hundred pounds sterling (£1,400) if they agreed to come under the British. However, if they refused, the Governor threatened to enstool Atwereboana, the rival claimant. This mixture of enticement and intimidation confused the King and the state.

The Kingdom had already decided on a policy of friendship with the British. That was why the Governor had been invited to attend Nana Prempeh’s enstoolment. However, it was not the duty of the British Government to appoint a King for Asante. Because of the threats, the King appointed an eight-man delegation to visit the Queen of Britain to have a frank discussion with her about the situation in the Gold Coast, particularly in the Asante Kingdom.

According to Claridge, the delegation consisted of the following: John Ansa, Albert Ansa, Nana Kwame Boaten, Nana Kwaku Fokuo (a linguist), Kwaku Nkroma, Kwabena Bonna, Agyapon Daban, and Kwadwo Tufour.

The Governor tried to persuade them to abandon the journey and discuss the matter with him, insisting that he represented the Crown in the Gold Coast. They refused and left for England, motivated by the threatening tone of the Governor’s letters. They wanted to hear directly from the Queen, not her representative. They were prepared to clarify their customs to the Queen of England to restore peace.

The Governor warned them that the Queen would not welcome them, but they took this as another threat. They did not know that the King had been portrayed as a cruel ruler who practised human sacrifice, a reputation that guaranteed they would not be received. Still, they insisted on going to see the Queen and travelled to England. When they arrived, they tried for six months to obtain an audience but were refused.

Meanwhile, the Governor at the time, Mr. Branford-Griffiths, was transferred and replaced by Mr. William Maxwell. The new Governor was instructed to send the following message to Nana Prempeh I:

1. He should allow a British resident representative in Kumase.

2. He should open his trade routes to all and allow free trade in the Asante district.

3. He should stop human sacrifice.

4. He should honour the Fomena Treaty by paying the Government £175,000 (equivalent to the 50,000 ounces of gold stated in the treaty).

5. He should allow any state in his Kingdom that wished to secede and come under the British to do so without intimidation.

The Governor’s letter gave the King a few days to reply. Eight days after the deadline, Nana Prempeh I responded that he had received the letter but could not give a full reply until his delegates returned from Britain. On receiving this reply, the Governor decided to use force to bring Asante under the British flag.

The messengers returned to the Gold Coast in December 1895 without seeing the Queen. When they arrived in Accra, they observed preparations by the Governor for an expedition to Kumase. Fearing the consequences, they met the Governor and agreed to welcome a British representative in Kumase. They accepted all the terms in the Governor’s letter and asked him to cancel the planned military expedition. The Governor refused, insisting that he needed to meet the King himself. He said he would proceed to Kumase with his troops and that if the King was unhappy about their arrival, he should meet him at Praso to negotiate a new treaty. He also demanded that the King pay all expenses of the expedition.

The messengers returned to report to the King and Asanteman, who awaited the Governor’s arrival. According to Claridge, the King and his chiefs resolved to fight the British again. While they waited, the King dressed two of his children as hostages and sent them to the Governor at Praso, hoping that this gesture would make the Governor and his troops return. However, knowing that Asante did not practise paternal inheritance, the Governor rejected the offer. The King then sent his linguist, Nana Fokuo, and Nana Boaten to plead with the Governor to return, but he refused and advanced with his men.

The Governor and his troops crossed the River Pra on 11 January 1896. They were met by the Chief of Bekwai, Nana Yaw Boaten, and the Chief of Abodom, who made a treaty with him and accepted British protection. They received British flags, one of which was hoisted in the chief’s palace at Bekwai. The Chief of Adanse, Nana Kwaku Nkansa, had already accepted British protection on 18 October 1895.

When the King heard that some chiefs had joined the Governor, Nana Prempeh I and the remaining chiefs decided to accept the British flag. They waited for the Governor’s arrival to proclaim their acceptance and request the appointment of a British representative in Kumase. When the King heard that the soldiers would reach Kumase on 17 January, he summoned his chiefs to a great durbar to welcome the Governor. They arrived at 9:00 AM and waited until 5:00 PM, only to learn that the Governor would arrive the next day. The force that arrived on 17 January consisted of 1,322 Europeans and 1,800 Africans, including Hausas, Fantes, and men from Adanse and Bekwai.

When the Governor arrived on 18 January, he sent a message to the King that he was tired and they should return home and mount the durbar on 20 January. The King and his elders planned to use the durbar to proclaim their acceptance of British rule and welcome the resident representative. They did not know the true intentions behind the Governor’s military escort.

On the appointed day, the King and his chiefs arrived early at the durbar grounds. To their surprise, they found soldiers everywhere. The soldiers separated the chiefs from their attendants, allowing only the chiefs and a few elders to proceed to the platform. Sensing danger, the King and his chiefs became uneasy. After a while, the Governor arrived, greetings were exchanged, and he delivered his message: he had come to invite the King and his subjects to accept British rule. He also stated that they had not honoured the Fomena Treaty and demanded payment of the 50,000 ounces of gold.

The King and his chiefs were stunned; they had not expected a demand for repayment. While they deliberated, John Ansa, leader of the Asante delegation to London, whispered something to the King. Moments later, the King and the Queen Mother rose and bowed before the Governor, touching his shoes. After returning to their seats, the King declared that he and his subjects had accepted British rule. Concerning the 50,000 ounces of gold, the King said that he would pay but had no funds immediately. He offered 600 ounces of gold (£2,000). The Governor rejected this, arguing that if the King could fund a delegation to England, he could pay the debt.

When no payment came, the Governor ordered the arrest of the King, the Queen Mother, the King’s father, his brother, two heirs to the throne, two linguists, the King’s interpreter, the chiefs of Bantama, Asafo, Mampong, Offinso, Edweso, and several of the King’s wives and attendants.

Top 10 Most Powerful Kings In Ghana

0

Ghana’s chieftaincy map is a mosaic of ancient kingdoms, sprawling cultures and thrones that have survived centuries of upheaval. But power is not evenly spread. Some stools carry influence in silence, others roar through history with weight that bends national conversations. And so here is a raw journey—from the edges of influence to the towering summit—of Ghana’s ten most powerful kings.

10. The Omanhene of Oguaa (Cape Coast) – The Coastal Diplomat

At the bottom of the list sits a king whose throne is soaked in history but softened by time. The Oguaa Omanhene commands respect on the coast where colonial forces once fought, prayed and bargained. His influence today lies in cultural diplomacy and custodianship of a city symbolic to Ghana’s soul. But compared to Ghana’s inland empires, the political weight of Oguaa has grown quieter, more ceremonial than commanding.

9. The Ga Mantse – The Capital’s Custodian

Accra is Ghana’s beating heart—commercial, political, unpredictable. Yet the Ga Mantse’s power is complicated by rapid urbanization, land pressures and centuries of migration that diluted the homogenous authority other kingdoms enjoy. Still, the position is prestigious; controlling the capital’s heritage gives this throne a unique influence even if its power is often contested or fragmented.

8. The Omanhene of Sefwi Wiawso – The Quiet Giant of the West

The Sefwi kingdom does not shout, but its strength lies underground—in cocoa farms, timber reserves and a people tightly bound to their tradition. The Omanhene commands deep respect in Western-North and Western regions. His power is not loud, but it is deep, stable, and resource-backed.

7. The Dormaa Omanhene – The Bold Voice of Bono

The Dormaa stool carries a warrior spirit—bold, expressive, unafraid. Historically, Dormaa was a fierce and independent kingdom, and that energy is still alive in its leadership. The Omanhene’s influence spreads across Bono and Ahafo, and his court often makes national ripples through fearless commentary on governance and culture.

6. The Okyenhene of Akyem Abuakwa – The Eastern Lion

The Okyenhene’s authority blends cultural prestige with political proximity. The Akyem state has long produced national political elites, giving the stool a modern voice louder than many others. His influence stretches beyond culture into environmental advocacy, governance debates and national identity. The Okyenhene is powerful not just through tradition—but through relevance.

5. The Yagbonwura – King of the Gonja Kingdom

In the savannah, the Yagbonwura’s authority stands tall across a territory carved from warrior migrations and strategic diplomacy. He oversees a vast land stretching across the Savannah Region. His influence is regional, cultural and historical, making him one of northern Ghana’s major power holders.

4. The Nayiri – The Ancestral Father of Northern Kingdoms

The Nayiri of Mamprugu rules one of Ghana’s oldest surviving kingdoms—older than the country itself. His authority sits at the roots of several northern chieftaincy traditions. The Mamprugu kingdom commands deep reverence, and the Nayiri’s throne still shapes the identity, leadership and traditional structure of vast northern communities.

3. The Awoamefia of Anlo – The Spiritual Commander of the Ewe State

The Awoamefia reigns over a culturally expansive people whose identity crosses modern borders into Togo and Benin. His influence is spiritual, traditional and political. The Anlo state’s festivals, military heritage and strong cultural cohesion elevate the Awoamefia to one of Ghana’s most respected kings. His throne speaks for millions within and beyond Ghana.

2. The Ya-Na – The Lion of Dagbon

Power in Dagbon is not ceremonial—it is lived. The Ya-Na sits at the center of a kingdom with ancient military history, a massive population, and a cultural structure where tradition is still woven into everyday life. The Dagbon state influences politics, cultural policies, conflict mediation and the northern regional balance. When the Ya-Na speaks, northern Ghana moves.

1. The Asantehene – The Unchallenged Monarch of the Golden Stool

At the peak sits the Asantehene, custodian of the Golden Stool—the single most revered symbol in Ghana’s chieftaincy. The Ashanti Empire once controlled vast territories and shaped West African history through diplomacy, warfare and administration. That legacy did not fade. Today, the Asantehene’s power stretches across culture, economics, dispute resolution, national development conversations and international diplomacy.

His court is a blend of ancient authority and modern influence. What other kings command regionally, the Asantehene commands nationally. His festivals draw global audiences, his speeches redirect national debates, and his leadership remains unmatched by any other traditional ruler in the country.

The Golden Stool does not compete; it dominates.

Ghana’s kings are not presidents, MPs or ministers, yet their influence shapes communities, guides tradition and anchors the nation to its ancestral pillars. From Oguaa to the Golden Stool, the hierarchy of power is not just about land or population—it is about history, resilience and the silent weight of legacy.

Accra, Nov. 29, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama Saturday spent his 67th birthday visiting children on admission at the LEKMA Hospital at Teshie and the Maamobi Polyclinic in Accra.

In a message shared after the visit, President Mahama thanked Ghanaians for their warm wishes, prayers, greetings and cards, and expressed appreciation for the flowers he received from the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, and many well-wishers.

Marriage can ‘make or unmake’ you – Lawyer

Private legal practitioner, Prince Benson Mankotam Private legal practitioner, Prince Benson Mankotam

Private legal practitioner, Prince Benson Mankotam, has advised the public to approach marriage with intention and careful planning, saying that marriage can “make or unmake” a person.

Speaking on Starr Showbiz with Feeling on Starr 103.5 FM on Saturday, November 29, 2025, the Senior Associate at Edfields Attorneys said the recent legal dispute over the late highlife musician Daddy Lumba highlights the importance of arranging personal and legal affairs while alive.

Mankotam stressed that marriage is more than a contractual arrangement, noting that decisions taken within it can have long-term consequences for spouses and their families.

“What it means is that marriage can make you or make you. How it makes or unmakes you is in your hands,” he said. “You have to take a very, very deliberate step to do it.”

He further advised that individuals ensure all necessary matters, including legal documentation and personal arrangements, are addressed during their lifetime, as family members often determine one’s affairs after death.

Background

The remarks follow the High Court in Kumasi’s ruling on November 28, 2025 that both Akosua Serwaa Fosu and Priscilla Ofori Atta, popularly known as Odo Broni, are lawful wives of Daddy Lumba, legally known as Charles Kwadwo Fosu. The court dismissed Serwaa’s request to be recognised as the sole surviving spouse of the late musician.

Serwaa had claimed that a civil marriage allegedly contracted in Germany in 2004 superseded all other marital claims. However, the court noted she failed to submit an original or certified true copy of the marriage certificate, instead providing extracts whose authenticity was questioned. The defence argued that Serwaa’s customary marriage had been dissolved and that Odo Broni had contracted a valid customary marriage with Lumba, living with him for over 15 years.

The judgment permits both women to participate in widowhood rites and funeral and estate matters. Certified copies of the ruling are expected on December 1, 2025.

Lumba Abusuapanin Clashes With Papa Shee On UTV Showbiz, Makes Fresh Claims About Akosua Serwaa

0

A heated moment unfolded on UTV’s United Showbiz as Lumba Abusuapanin and Papa Shee clashed live on set during a discussion surrounding Daddy Lumba’s past. The tension began when Papa Shee repeated his earlier claims about Daddy Lumba’s German citizenship, insisting the highlife legend only qualified through his marriage to Akosua Serwaa.

Lumba Abusuapanin, a well-known representative and strong voice for Daddy Lumba’s family, immediately challenged Papa Shee’s claims. He accused him of spreading half-truths and sensationalizing private family matters for attention. The exchange quickly escalated as both sides attempted to justify their positions.

During the confrontation, Lumba Abusuapanin went further to make new revelations regarding a supposed secret meeting involving Akosua Serwaa and an unidentified “Odo Bronii.” According to him, the encounter was part of issues that caused serious tension within the family at the time. He alleged that certain private matters—described as “potɔpotɔ” issues—were being concealed, and Papa Shee had no moral right to pretend he knew the full story.

Papa Shee, however, stood his ground, insisting he was speaking based on facts he personally witnessed. He also accused Lumba Abusuapanin of trying to rewrite history to protect individuals involved.

The dramatic on-air exchange left viewers divided, with some calling for both parties to let sleeping dogs lie, while others believe the revelations offer deeper insight into long-standing controversies surrounding Daddy Lumba’s personal life.

Despite the clash, producers managed to calm the studio, but the debate has already ignited widespread discussions online. Many fans are now wondering whether more revelations will follow or if the parties involved will choose to address the matter publicly in the coming days.

Mahama Government Uncovers Another Major Corruption Under The Previous NPP Government

0

JoyNews has reported that the administration of President Mahama has identified yet another major instance of corruption involving officials from the former NPP government. This new development focuses on Abdul-Wahab Hannan, the former CEO of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company, who allegedly diverted huge sums of state money and used the proceeds to acquire high-end properties across the country.

Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, disclosed that investigators have uncovered evidence suggesting that Mr. Wahab, whose monthly income was around GHS28,000, and his wife, who earned GHS5,000, secretly engaged in money laundering. The alleged scheme was carried out through a business called Sawtina Enterprise, which reportedly enabled them to disguise more than GHS40.5 million in embezzled government funds.

The Attorney-General detailed how investigators traced the diverted money to a range of luxurious assets linked to Wahab and his partners. These included a five-bedroom property at Chain Homes valued at $1.625 million, a three-bedroom residence in Cantonments costing $600,000, and Airport Development lands worth approximately $750,000. Authorities also found a 17-bedroom boutique hotel in Gumani, Tamale priced at $250,000, a four-bedroom home in Dzorwulu costing more than GHS4.1 million, and a government plot of land measuring 0.32 acres that he acquired for GHS307,200.

Dr. Ayine emphasized that these property purchases point to intentional efforts to hide stolen state resources and convert them into personal wealth. He shared these findings during the Government Accountability Series, a platform created by the Presidential Communications Directorate to provide updates on corruption investigations and the recovery of national assets.

The case is ongoing as the government continues efforts to retrieve the misappropriated funds and properties.

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, compelled the Member of Parliament for Afram Plains South, Joseph Appiah, to withdraw a comment he made about former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP, the former President plunged the country into a state of hardship, claiming that everyone in the nation including the former President’s close associates was experiencing hunger.

He referenced an incident in Parliament where the former President’s bodyguard collapsed in the chamber during a State of the Nation Address.

“Always his people go hungry. That’s why we were starving. And it was manifest in this chamber when the former President’s bodyguard fainted because he was hungry…under Mahama’s administration, this would not happen,” he said.

However, Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor, who found the comment inappropriate, demanded its withdrawal.

Final day promises bigger crowds, bigger deals, bigger impact

0

Day Three of AgriFair 2025 opens today with heightened anticipation as farmers, shoppers, agripreneurs, and families prepare to flood the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park for the final and biggest day of this year’s celebration of Ghana’s agricultural excellence.

After two days of impressive crowds, vibrant displays of fresh produce, and hands-on Agric Clinics that equipped hundreds with new farming skills, today’s finale is expected to deliver even more excitement, more deals, and stronger networking opportunities for market actors across the agricultural value chain.

Organised by Channel One TV and Citi FM, AgriFair has reaffirmed its position as a national platform for connecting farmers to consumers, stimulating agro-innovation, and deepening support for homegrown foods. The fair has also become a symbol of the country’s broader push to strengthen domestic production, reduce import dependence, and empower rural communities.

With renewed calls from Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programmes, Mr. Augustus Goosie Tanoh, for private sector collaboration—especially around the “Made-in-Ghana Gifting” initiative—today’s activities are expected to spark even greater interest in local goods and value addition.

From fresh vegetables, grains, poultry, fish, and fruits, to live demonstrations on fish farming, piggery, snail farming, and poultry production, AgriFair’s final day offers something for everyone: shoppers seeking fresh bargains, farmers pursuing new knowledge, and agribusinesses looking to expand their markets.

As exhibitors gear up for strong final-day sales and visitors troop in for last-minute purchases and training, AgriFair 2025 is set to crown its closing day with the same energy, community spirit, and commitment to Ghana’s agricultural future that have defined the past two days.

Gates open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., free for all.

Blood sisters clashed over alleged threesome deal to finance a house

Vera said she begged her sister to speak to her husband for help Vera said she begged her sister to speak to her husband for help

Two biological sisters are at serious loggerheads after one allegedly slept with her sister’s husband in exchange for money to purchase a house for herself and their late mother.

One of the sisters, identified as Vera, recounted the ordeal on Secret Court, a YouTube channel hosted by Prophet Elisha Osei Owusu. According to her, life became unbearable after her sister got married to her husband.

“My sister got married and left but I was stranded with our mother. We had nowhere to sleep,” Vera said.

She explained that she and their mother initially lived in a kiosk but the land was later sold, forcing them out. They moved into an uncompleted building that was also on sale.

Vera said she begged her sister to speak to her husband for help.

“I told my sister to ask her husband to assist us but he said he wouldn’t help because he had issues with our mother that were never resolved,” she revealed.

When her sister failed to convince him, Vera approached the man herself.

“I begged him but he still refused. Out of frustration, I told him that if he wanted to sleep with me or even marry me in addition, he should just help us get the house,” she confessed.

According to Vera, the man later agreed but under a disturbing condition. She claimed he demanded a threesome with both sisters.

“He said he would buy the house only if he could sleep with both of us. He even planned to make his wife unconscious before doing it,” Vera alleged.

She further claimed her sister was given a drink laced with a substance before the act took place, after which the house was purchased.

However, tensions escalated after their mother died and the sister’s husband also passed away. The married sister now wants to sell the house, saying it was bought by her late husband. But Vera insists she will not allow it.

“I offered my body for that house. She can’t sell it like that. I suffered for it,” Vera argued.

The matter has now been taken to Prophet Elisha Osei Owusu for mediation.

Institution of Engineering and Technology Ghana gets new president

Under his leadership, Engr Wonder has pledged that IET-GH will be assertive and principled Under his leadership, Engr Wonder has pledged that IET-GH will be assertive and principled

The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH), has ushered in a new era of leadership as Engr Wonder Davor Salami was officially sworn in as President, delivering a powerful acceptance speech that underscored the urgent need for engineering-driven national development.

The ceremony, attended by distinguished engineers and members of the engineering fraternity, was a moment of both celebration and reflection.

Taking the podium, Engr Salami expressed deep gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and acknowledged the outgoing President, Engr Henry Kwadwo Boateng, for his dedicated service.

He also paid tribute to the distinguished candidates who contested the presidency alongside him Engr Dr George Eduful, Engr Prof Mike Agbesi Acheampong and Engr Dr Surv Gyamera describing them as remarkable professionals who embody the spirit of engineering excellence.

With a tone that blended humility and resolute determination, Engr Salami emphasised that his new role is “not a ceremonial position but a call to action.”

He noted that Ghana stands at a critical point where engineering leadership is more essential than ever, especially in the face of poorly maintained infrastructure, collapsing buildings, underutilized local expertise and the persistent outsourcing of major national projects without adequate local content participation.

Declaring that “the era of silent engineering is over,” he rallied engineers across the country to speak boldly and act decisively.

Under his leadership, he pledged that IET-GH will be assertive, principled and proactive in protecting engineering standards and enhancing professional integrity.

He outlined key commitments for his administration, including holding institutions accountable for breaches of engineering standards, championing reforms in licensing and ethics and advocating for the full implementation of Act 819 and the enforcement of LI 2410, which govern engineering practice in Ghana.

In a strong message to government, Engr Salami reaffirmed IET-GH’s readiness to support national development but insisted that engineers must be included at every stage of infrastructure planning, execution and commissioning.

He urged the state to develop robust maintenance systems especially for road infrastructure and highlighted the need for a National Roads Asset Management System to protect major investments and sustain long-term development.

Turning to the next generation, Engr Salami reassured young engineers and students that IET-GH will modernize its operations, digitize its systems and create opportunities that foster growth, innovation and professional advancement.

He also extended an invitation to stakeholders and partners, noting that collaboration is welcome but always with the clear aim of strengthening local engineering capacity and ensuring that Ghana’s engineers remain central to national progress.

As he concluded, the newly sworn-in President pledged to lead with integrity, transparency and unwavering dedication, urging all members to rise with him. “Together,” he said, “let us build a stronger, more respected IET-GH and a Ghana where engineering truly transforms lives.”

The ceremony closed with applause as Engr Salami invoked blessings upon Ghana, the Institution of Engineering and Technology and all who work tirelessly to advance the nation through engineering.

Akoto Nelson, a private security man who allegedly wore a police camouflage uniform with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) at the Black Star Square during the “ShattaFest Concert,” has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Nelson, 34, has been charged with possession of police accoutrements without lawful authority and falsely pretending to be a public officer.

He pleaded not guilty when the charges were retaken before the court, presided over by Jojo Hagan.

He was ordered to remain on his previous bail.

Checks by the Ghana News Agency indicate that he had earlier been admitted to bail in the sum of GH₵50,000 with two sureties.

The prosecution said the complainant was a police officer stationed at the Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the Ghana Police Service.

On October 19, 2025, at about 1:00 a.m., a team from the FPU led by DSP Alexander Asamoah arrested Nelson at the Black Star Square during the “ShattaFest Concert.”

Nelson was found dressed in a police camouflage uniform, ranked himself as ASP, and presented himself as such to the public at the event.

During interrogation, Nelson failed to properly identify himself or provide any lawful authority to wear the uniform.

A subsequent search at his residence led to the retrieval of a toy P99 pistol, pepper spray, two ZTE mini handsets, and one Xinte cutter knife.

The others were two complimentary cards bearing the names of ACP Christian Tetteh Yohuno (then Deputy Accra Regional Police Commander) and Chief Superintendent C.A. Wlemegah (Director of Transport).

Investigations revealed that Nelson had been in possession of the uniform since 2022 and had been wearing it to funerals and other public events to intimidate members of the public.

Further investigations are underway.

Emmanuel Appiah, head pastor of the Emmanuel Army Church, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on charges of offensive conduct conducive to a breach of the peace and publication of false news.

Appiah, also known as Appiah Biblical, founder of the church, is alleged to have made abusive and offensive statements against Dr Isaac Owusu Bempah, General Overseer of the Glorious Word Power Ministries, on various social media platforms.

He has pleaded not guilty.

The court admitted him to bail in the sum of GH₵100,000 with three sureties after he applied for bail.

It further directed the prosecution to file and serve disclosures on the accused.

The case has been adjourned to December 30, 2025.

Presenting the facts, the prosecution said on September 4, 2025, the complainant intercepted viral video footage on social media, including YouTube, in which the accused was seen and heard making statements allegedly intended to cause fear and panic.

The statements, which included several allegations against Rev. Owusu Bempah, were abusive and offensive, and amounted to conduct likely to provoke a breach of the peace, prosecution said.

The court heard that after making the remarks during a livestream programme, Appiah disseminated the audio and video across multiple social media platforms, including a YouTube account named “SourcetubeTv.”

The complainant subsequently lodged a report with the Police, leading to Appiah’s arrest.

A forensic capture of the audio and video recordings was obtained as evidence and, with the assistance of the Ghana Institute of Languages, transcribed into written scripts.

Burkina Faso international Bertrand Traoré leveled the score for Sunderland in the 46th-minute. However, it was the Dutch Ghanaian attacker who rose to the occasion, scoring the decisive goal to snatch maximum points for Sunderland.

Since joining Sunderland, the 23-year-old attacker has racked up two goals and provided an assist in eight Premier League appearances.

Meanwhile, Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo, who has been in a rich vein of form for Bournemouth lasted the entire duration as his outfit fell short to Sunderland.

Venezuela calls Trump airspace closure warning ‘colonialist threat’

0

Venezuela has accused US President Donald Trump of making a “colonialist threat” after he said the airspace around the country should be considered closed.

The country’s foreign ministry called Trump’s comments “another extravagant, illegal and unjustified aggression against the Venezuelan people”.

The US does not legally have the authority to close another country’s airspace, but Trump’s online post could lead to travel uncertainty and deter airlines from operating there.

The US has been building its military presence in the Caribbean, which officials say is to combat drug smuggling. Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro has dismissed US claims of drug trafficking as an attempt to oust him.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY.”

The White House did not immediately respond to the BBC’s request for comment.

With Trump ratcheting up his threats, Democrat and Republican members of US Congress have expressed anger that he has not sought legislative approval.

“President Trump’s reckless actions towards Venezuela are pushing America closer and closer to another costly foreign war,” top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer posted on X on Sunday.

“Under our Constitution, Congress has the sole power to declare war,” he added.

Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, until recently a close Trump ally, said: “Reminder, Congress has the sole power to declare war.”

Trump’s comments come days after the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warned airlines of “heightened military activity in and around Venezuela”.

In a statement on Saturday, Venezuela’s foreign ministry said that the US had “unilaterally suspended” its weekly migrant repatriation flights.

“We call directly on the international community, the sovereign governments of the world, the UN, and the relevant multilateral organizations to firmly reject this immoral act of aggression,” it said.

Also Saturday, Venezuela’s military conducted exercises along coastal areas, with state TV showing anti-aircraft weapons and other artillery being manoeuvred.

Venezuela on Wednesday banned six major international airlines – Iberia, TAP Portugal, Gol, Latam, Avianca and Turkish Airlines – from landing there after they failed to meet a 48-hour deadline to resume flights.

The US has deployed the world’s largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald Ford, and about 15,000 troops to within striking distance of Venezuela.

It has insisted that the deployment – the largest by the US in the region since it invaded Panama in 1989 – is to combat drug trafficking.

On Thursday, Trump warned that US efforts to halt Venezuelan drug trafficking “by land” would begin “very soon”.

US forces have carried out at least 21 strikes on boats they said were carrying drugs, killing more than 80 people. However, the US has not provided evidence that the boats carried drugs.

The Venezuelan government believes the aim of the US action is to depose Maduro, whose re-election last year was denounced by the Venezuelan opposition and many foreign nations as rigged.

The US has also designated Cartel de los Soles, or Cartel of the Suns – a group it alleges is headed by Maduro – as a foreign terrorist organisation.

Labelling an organisation as a terrorist group gives US law enforcement and military agencies broader powers to target and dismantle it.

Venezuela’s foreign ministry has “categorically, firmly, and absolutely rejected” the designation.

Venezuela’s interior and justice minister Diosdado Cabello, who is alleged to be one of the high-ranking members of the cartel, has long called it an “invention”.

The US state department has insisted that the Cartel de los Soles not only exists, but that it has “corrupted Venezuela’s military, intelligence, legislature, and judiciary”.

Ghana Exim Bank, PIAA leads joint inspection tour of coconut farms across 11 regions

0

The Ghana EXIM Bank, in collaboration with the Office of the President under the Presidential Initiative on Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA) and the Coconut Federation Ghana, has undertaken one of the largest field inspection tours across 10 major coconut-growing regions, Volta, Eastern, Central, Ashanti, Western, Western North, Bono, Bono East, Ahafo and Greater Accra.

This visit follows barely two months after the distribution of 3,000,000 elite, disease-resistant coconut seedlings to farmers.

This national initiative fully financed by the Ghana EXIM Bank forms a core pillar of the President’s flagship programme to plant 11 million coconut seedlings across 11 regions, firmly positioning Ghana as Africa’s leading coconut producer and an emerging global supplier.

The visionary leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, the Chief of Staff, the CEO and Board of Ghana EXIM Bank and the Office of PIAA continue to drive the country’s coconut transformation agenda.

As Ghana’s official export-development bank, GEXIM has prioritised coconut as a high-value export crop capable of earning substantial foreign exchange, creating sustainable jobs, and strengthening rural economies.

Coconut and coconut-derived products continue to command strong global demand, coconut water is worth USD 5.73 billion, growing at 150% monthly, coconut meat is also peak USD 5.19 billion while coconut shell nut is USD 0.95 billion and coir products is USD 0.64 billion.

Ghana is already leveraging these opportunities, in 2021, Ghana exported 41,326,637 kg of coconuts worth USD 11.44 million. Ghana is now the world’s 9th-largest exporter of desiccated coconut, valued at USD 22 million (2022) and the global coconut export market stood at USD 14.19 billion in 2023.

During the Fruit Logistica 2025 exhibition in Berlin, one of the world’s largest fresh-produce trade shows buyers from Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America expressed strong interest in, desiccated coconut, fresh mature nuts, coconut oil, copra cake, coconut charcoal, coir products, coconut water and other coconut-based industrial raw materials.

Buyers highlighted Ghana’s competitive advantages: rich organic nature, superior taste, high oil content and consistent quality.

This increasing demand underscores the urgency of expanding Ghana’s coconut acreage from 90,000 hectares to 135,000 hectares and raising annual production from 600,000 metric tons to 900,000 metric tons.

The joint inspection team visited over 600 farms across the 10 regions, observing strong seedling performance, proper field management, and high farmer enthusiasm.

The Vice President of the Coconut Federation Ghana, Kwaku Boateng, said, “The level of care farmers are giving these seedlings is commendable. These visits help us gather real-time feedback and provide technical support.

“The coconut value chain can create thousands of jobs direct and indirect especially for youth and women. With the President’s leadership and EXIM Bank’s support, Ghana is steadily becoming a global coconut hub.”

Farmers expressed deep appreciation for the government’s support.

One farmer, Joseph Korang, shared, “I had the land but could not afford the seedlings. Receiving them freely was a huge blessing. I thank President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana EXIM Bank, and the Coconut Federation for making this possible for farmers like us.”

Many farmers also requested additional seedlings for the next planting season to expand their farms and contribute to Ghana’s export agenda.

Coconut cultivation is now thriving in 11 of Ghana’s 16 regions, involving thousands of farmers, processors, exporters, youth groups, and rural women entrepreneurs.

The EXIM-funded project aims to, support 80,000 farmers nationwide, create over 50,000 indirect jobs and 10,000–20,000 direct jobs, increase Ghana’s export earnings, strengthen rural industrialization and enhance Ghana’s global competitiveness in the coconut market.

‘Mother Fucker’ is an acceptable slang and will win us the 2028 elections

Dr Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, the National Coordinator for the OAK Dr Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, the National Coordinator for the OAK

Dr Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, the National Coordinator for the OAK (Ohene Agyapong Kennedy) movement, has asserted that the phrase “motherfucker” is not necessarily profane but can be interpreted as acceptable slang in certain contexts, particularly in the United States and the United Nations.

His comments were a direct response to remarks made by private legal practitioner and former Abuakwa South Member of Parliament, Atta Akyea, concerning the temperament of presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong.

Atta Akyea had advised New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates against electing the former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, as the party’s candidate for the 2028 presidential election.

The legal practitioner argued that the party requires a candidate who is level-headed, disciplined, and diplomatic.

While Akyea did not explicitly name the aspirant, Dr Boakye-Danquah maintained that the description and characterisation were clearly directed at Agyapong.

Dr Boakye-Danquah, who referred to the lawyer as his uncle, reminded him of the alternative interpretation, stating that “motherfucker” is acceptable slang that symbolises boldness, courage and strength.

To contextualise his argument, he referenced the 1992 US presidential election, noting how former President Bill Clinton’s famous campaign focus, “It’s the economy, stupid,” resonated with voters and led to his victory.

‘Motherfucker’ is not a profanity or an insult. It is acceptable slang in the US and the United Nations.

“I urge the lawyer to recall 1992 in the US when Bill Clinton won the elections with the ‘It’s the economy, stupid’ approach. I want to tell my uncle that ‘motherfucker’ is understood by Americans and the United Nations; it is a contextual issue. If ‘It’s the economy, stupid’ won Clinton the elections, ‘Mother Fucker’ will secure our victory in 2028.”

He further elaborated that the use of such strong language signifies a leader who is courageous and who will not tolerate cheats or those who undermine others.

“We need a president who is bold enough to speak the language of the foreigners. A person lacking courage or boldness cannot utter ‘Mother Fucker’ in the US or America. Atta Akyea is aware that ‘Mother Fucker’ is not an insult and that will win us the election.

“He did not mention anyone’s name, but everyone knows the presidential race is a two-horse race, and thus, his comment was a stray bullet directed at our candidate.”

Dr Boakye-Danquah concluded by appealing to delegates to vote overwhelmingly for the former Assin Central Member of Parliament.

He stressed that the OAK movement is neither moved nor worried by endorsements from some party leaders for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

He noted that with over 250,000 delegates expected to vote, the support of a few party leaders for a particular candidate does not concern the movement.

“We remain strong and resolute and believe that on January 31, 2026, Kennedy Agyapong will be declared the presidential candidate for the NPP for the 2028 elections. He is a credible, strong and formidable candidate who can secure victory for the NPP.”

Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku continued his explosive start to the new season after registering an assist in Leicester City’s home defeat to Sheffield United.

The Black Stars winger started and played full throttle of the match as his outfit succumbed to a 3-2 defeat in the English Championship clash, held at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Sheffield United broke the deadlock through Thomas Cannon, just two minutes into the much-anticipated clash before Jairo Riedewald doubled the advantage for the visitors in the 4th-minute mark.

The visitors showcased determination and resilience in the first half, with Sydie Peck firing home the third goal of the match to cement victory.

Issahaku was instrumental for the Foxes despite the defeat. He set up England Stephy Mavididi to reduce the deficit for the hosts in the 53rd-minute.

In the 83rd-minute, Leicester City pulled one back Jordan James but it was not enough to save the host from defeat in the highly competitive clash.

The 21-year-old Ghana international has now contributed eight goals in the Champions for Leicester City, scoring three and delivering five assists in 18 appearances.

Meanwhile, his compatriot, Jordan Ayew, the captain of the Black Stars made substitute appearance as the Foxes fell short to Sheffield United on home turf.

‘Ashawo is a gospel song’

Guru is a popular Ghanaian rapper Guru is a popular Ghanaian rapper

Rapper Guru NKZ has defended the message behind his new single ‘Ashawo’, saying that despite the controversial title, the track is not meant to glamorise immorality but rather expose and challenge it.

Speaking in an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Guru described the song as “a gospel message in disguise.”

“Ashawo is actually a gospel song in disguise. I crafted it to challenge immorality, not promote it. The song explores themes such as prostitution, infidelity and other social vices which are becoming the norm.”

“For me, the gospel is not only about church themes or worship rhythms. It is any message that guides people toward better choices and a more positive way of living,” he explained.

He explained that the title was a deliberate choice to ensure the message reaches today’s audience.

Beyond the song, Guru, real name Maradona Yeboah Adjei, addressed the deeper issues troubling Ghana’s music industry.

It’s very difficult combining music and education – Guru

He lamented the weak structures, outdated systems, and the absence of proper support mechanisms for artistes.

He called for urgent reforms to help Ghanaian musicians compete globally.

“We need a functional royalty system, better studios, training, marketing support, stronger mentorship, and media platforms that promote talent on merit. The talent in Ghana is undeniable, but without proper structures, we will always struggle internationally.”

Guru acknowledged that progress has been made over the years but insists the country must move faster if it hopes to gain its rightful place on the global music map.

“We are making progress, but not at the pace we need. The talent is undeniable, but we lack the proper structure, investment and consistent international promotion. Once we address these issues, Ghanaian music will finally earn its rightful place on the world stage,” he said.

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo marks injury return for Bournemouth in defeat against Sunderland

Ghana international Antoine Semenyo Ghana international Antoine Semenyo

Ghana international Antoine Semenyo marked his return from injury for AFC Bournemouth in their Premier League defeat to Sunderland on Saturday.

Semenyo returned to Bournemouth injured, missing two games for club and country. He was not in action when Ghana fell short to South Korea in an international friendly, while missing Bournemouth’s 2-2 draw against West Ham United last weekend.

On his return to action, the Black Stars forward delivered a modest performance as the Cherries succumbed to a 3-2 away defeat to Sunderland. Semenyo lasted the entire duration of the match but could not salvage his outfit from defeat at the Stadium of Light.

Amine Adli and Tyler Adams gave the Cherries a two-goal lead in the 7th and 15th-minutes before Enzo Le Fee converted from the spot to reduce the deficit for the hosts.

Putting on a stellar performance, the home team staged a massive comeback to secure victory over Bournemouth, with Brobbey emerging as the hero of the match.

Burkina Faso international Bertrand Traore leveled the score for Sunderland in the 46th-minute. However, it was the Dutch-Ghanaian attacker who rose to the occasion, scoring the decisive goal to snatch maximum points for Sunderland.

Semenyo has been in a scintillating form for Bournemouth this season, scoring six goals and delivering three assists in twelve appearances in the Premier League.

His impressive start to the 2025/26 league season earned him the Player of the Month and Goal of the Month awards for August at Bournemouth.

Odo Broni was not a ‘side chick’, married Daddy Lumba under customary law – Lawyer Mankotam

Priscilla Ofori Atta, popularly known as Odo Broni Priscilla Ofori Atta, popularly known as Odo Broni

Private legal practitioner, Prince Benson Mankotam, has clarified that Priscilla Ofori Atta, popularly known as Odo Broni, was legally married to the late highlife musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosu (Daddy Lumba) and cannot be considered a “side chick” under Ghanaian law.

Speaking on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddyon Starr 103.5 FM on Saturday, November 29, 2025, the Senior Associate at Edfields Attorneys explained that evidence of customary marriage validated Odo Broni’s status as a lawful wife.

Mankotam highlighted that Ghanaian law recognises three types of marriages: Islamic (allowing up to four wives), customary, and monogamous marriages. He emphasised that customary marriages are contracted between families, not individuals, and carry full legal weight.

“Broni was not a side chick. There was evidence that they had performed customary rights and contracted a valid marriage under customary law,” he said. “So you can use this case as an example to see that the law protecting monogamous marriages is intact. Nobody can use that one.”

He also stressed that customary engagements, sometimes confused with Western-style engagements, do not constitute marriage until formal customary rites are performed between families.

Background

The clarification comes after the High Court in Kumasi ruled on November 28, 2025 that both Akosua Serwaa Fosuh and Odo Broni are lawful wives of Daddy Lumba, legally known as Charles Kwadwo Fosu. The ruling dismissed Serwaa’s request to be recognised as the sole surviving spouse of the musician.

Serwaa had argued that a civil marriage allegedly contracted in Germany in 2004 superseded all other marital claims. However, the court found she failed to produce an original or certified true copy of the marriage certificate, instead submitting extracts whose authenticity was questioned. The defence also argued that Serwaa’s customary marriage had been dissolved and that Odo Broni had lived with Lumba for over 15 years while contracting a valid customary marriage.

The court’s judgment allows both women to participate fully in widowhood rites and funeral and estate matters. Certified copies of the ruling are expected to be released on December 1, 2025.

Two farmers fined for rearing cattle in a residential area

Haruna and Musah pleaded guilty to the charge of rearing animals in a residential area Haruna and Musah pleaded guilty to the charge of rearing animals in a residential area

Two farmers have been fined GH¢1,200.00 each, by the Toase District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region for rearing cattle in a residential area.

Haruna Ibrahim and Musah Dawuda pleaded guilty to the charge of rearing animals in a residential area (obnoxious trade) contrary to section 54 (a) of the Public Health Act 2012, Act 851 and were convicted on their own plea.

They would serve a month jail-term in default of the fine.

They were also ordered by the court, presided by Robert Addo, to relocate the animals within one month.

Prosper Argum, the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Environmental Health Analyst, presenting the facts of the case to the court, said complainants of the case were officers from the environmental health department of the Municipal Assembly, whiles the convicts were farmers residing at Atwima-Agogo-Abease.

He said, on October 17, 2025, the department received a complaint of the rearing of cattle in a residential area at Agogo-Abease, so a team of officers was dispatched for inspection.

He said, the outcome of the inspection confirmed the complaint and revealed that the activities of the convicts posed serious health threat to the neighbours in the area.

He explained that, the rearing of cattle in a residential area facilitated the transmission of zoonotic diseases and the invasion of disease-carrying vectors such as flies and rodents, thereby, posing a direct public health threat to residents.

According to the Analyst, anytime it rained, it washed the cow dung into people’s premises, causing an unsightliness, eyesore and offensive odour with its public health consequences.

Argum said, after explaining the observations to the convicts, they admitted the offence.

After further investigations, they were charged and brought before the court.

Mohammed Kudus scores but Tottenham fall to Fulham in home defeat

Ghana international Mohammed Kudus scored his second Premier League goal of the season Ghana international Mohammed Kudus scored his second Premier League goal of the season

Ghana international Mohammed Kudus scored his second Premier League goal of the season, but Tottenham Hotspur suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to Fulham on home soil on Saturday night.

Fulham stunned Spurs with an explosive start, scoring twice inside the opening six minutes. Kenny Tete broke the deadlock with a deflected strike from the edge of the box, his first goal in nearly two years.

Moments later, a costly error from goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario gifted the visitors their second. After rushing out of his area and losing possession, Vicario could only watch as Harry Wilson curled the ball into an empty net from 35 yards.

Tottenham struggled throughout the first half and were fortunate not to fall further behind when Samuel Chukwueze struck the post.

Thomas Frank’s side responded with more urgency after the interval. Kudus clawed one back with a superb volley into the top corner, giving Spurs hope of a comeback. However, the late pressure did not produce an equaliser, and the home crowd expressed their frustration with boos at full-time.

Spurs now sit 10th in the Premier League table, only one point ahead of 15th-placed Fulham.

Kudus has now registered seven goal contributions for Tottenham since joining from West Ham in the summer.

Results of 6, 296 WASSCE 2025 candidates cancelled as 35 persons face prosecution

0

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has signalled a stern approach to combating exam malpractice, announcing the cancellation of subject results for 6,295 candidates who participated in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.

This mass sanction is one of the highest recorded in recent years, forming the centrepiece of a significant crackdown that also involves the prosecution of teachers and examination officials.

The sanctions were approved by the Ghana Examinations Committee at its 40th Meeting held on Wednesday, November 17, 2025, following the completion of investigations into various reported irregularities.

The integrity of the 2025 WASSCE—which saw a total of 461,736 candidates register across 1,021 schools —was seriously compromised by over 7,000 instances of malpractice that have now resulted in severe penalties.

The bulk of the cancellations was driven by candidates bringing unauthorized materials into the examination halls. Specifically:

  • 6,295 candidates had their Subject Results Cancelled for bringing foreign materials, including prepared notes, textbooks, and printed materials, into the examination halls.
  • An additional 653 candidates had their Entire Results Cancelled solely for the possession of mobile phones in the examination halls.

Beyond these immediate cancellations, WAEC confirmed that further investigations are ongoing:

  • The Subject Results of 908 candidates and the Entire Results of 158 candidates have been withheld for various suspected offences.
  • The subject results of candidates from 185 schools have been withheld for alleged collusion.

WAEC stated it is working to ensure these withheld results are published before the end of December 2025, pending the outcome of the investigations.

35 Persons, Including 19 Teachers, Face Justice

The misconduct was not limited to the students; WAEC’s probe also uncovered significant complicity among examination staff and teachers.

A total of 35 persons, 19 of whom are teachers, were found to have engaged in acts that compromised the integrity of the examination.

  • Legal Action: So far, 19 of these individuals have been arraigned before court and convicted, receiving either fines or terms of imprisonment.
  • Pending Cases: The remaining 16 persons are yet to be presented before the courts by the police.
  • GES Referral: Beyond the courts, WAEC confirmed that the list of teachers implicated will be presented to the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for further disciplinary action.

Contextual Statistics

The 2025 WASSCE saw a 0.24% increase in entry figures over the 2024 total of 460,611. The total number of registrants included 207,415 males and 254,321 females. A total of 5,821 candidates, representing 1.26% of the total registrants, were absent from the examination.

Candidates who wish to access their provisional results may do so at the Council’s website, www.waecgh.org. WAEC also cautioned stakeholders to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee, reminding candidates that results are secured and can be authenticated using its results verification system.
