Despite not having a standout season statistically, West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus has caught the attention of former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, who believes the Ghanaian possesses the qualities to succeed at a top club like Liverpool.
Murphy has been vocal in his admiration for Kudus, first highlighting the Ghanaian’s abilities during West Ham’s narrow 2-1 loss to the Reds at Anfield earlier in April.
In that match, Kudus impressed with his physical strength, flair, and a near-spectacular goal that was thwarted by a world-class save from Alisson.
Building on his earlier praise, Murphy, following Liverpool’s 5-1 victory over Tottenham on Sunday, April 27, 2024, urged Liverpool to consider signing the West Ham midfielder.
“Kudus is robust, skilful, and capable of playing as a No.10 or on either wing. He is incredibly strong and possesses great pace,” Murphy commented.
Although Kudus hasn’t been statistically dominant, with just four goals and two assists in 28 appearances, Murphy believes his physicality, versatility, and flashes of brilliance make him a perfect fit for a club with Liverpool’s ambitions.
With several Liverpool forwards expected to depart this summer, Murphy views Kudus as a smart, long-term acquisition. Interest from other European clubs and the Saudi Pro League is reportedly growing, setting the stage for a potentially eventful summer for the 24-year-old Ghanaian.

The 2024 running mate of the Movement for Change, led by Alan Kyerematen, has criticized the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ongoing “Thank You Tour,” describing it as ‘tone-deaf’ and ‘misplaced’ in the face of growing public dissatisfaction.
Speaking in an interview with Nana Jantuah on Nhyira FM’s Kuroyi Mu Nsem show, Kwame Danso stated that instead of embarking on a nationwide appreciation tour, the opposition NPP should apologize to Ghanaians for what he described as “unpopular and burdensome policies they introduced while in power”.
“Instead of a ‘Thank You Tour’, the NPP should embark on an apology tour to Ghanaians,” he said.
He specifically cited the Electronic Levy (E-levy), the betting tax, and the much-debated National Cathedral project as examples of policy decisions that have eroded public trust in the New Patriotic party.
“To regain appeal, the NPP should apologize for the introduction of E-levy, betting tax, and the National Cathedral in which they invested so much just to dig a manhole for Ghanaians. Your ‘Thank You Tour’ lacks purpose without reconciliation with the people of Ghana,” he emphasized.
Mr. Danso further urged the NPP to assume the role of a “responsible opposition,” particularly as the country moves towards a different direction from the Nana Addo and Bawumiah–led government.
“They should focus on offering constructive ideas rather than obstructing efforts aimed at national progress,” he added.
On the topic of potential collaboration with Alan Kyerematen, Mr. Danso stated that the doors were not entirely closed.
“If the NPP wants Alan’s support, they should appoint credible mediators and offer a genuine apology,” he noted, suggesting that mutual respect and accountability are prerequisites for any form of alliance.

When the New Patriotic Party (NPP) announced a nationwide “Thank You” tour following its humiliating defeat in the 2024 general elections, many considered it a commendable gesture.
At the very least, it was an opportunity to express gratitude to the over four million Ghanaians who voted for the party and its Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
However, what was supposed to be a moment of reflection and healing has instead exposed deepening cracks within the party. What was meant to unify has turned into yet another episode of internal division and public embarrassment.
We have all witnessed the unfortunate and, frankly, unnecessary public altercation between two prominent figures—Kennedy Agyapong and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.
Their public spat, marked by accusations, counter-accusations, and classist rhetoric, raises the question: Is this what the “Thank You” tour is about? Shouldn’t it be about reconciliation, not rivalry?
To make matters worse, Dr. Bawumia himself, during this same tour, appeared to shift blame for the party’s defeat, citing issues such as economic hardship, the E-Levy, and what he termed the “arrogance of power.” Ironically, the arrogance he condemned is being blatantly displayed during this very tour.
But ultimately, the blame must be placed at the feet of the party leadership. The current chairman, whose primary appeal to delegates during his 2022 bid for the role was his long-standing commitment and loyalty, has proven to be ineffective. Under his leadership, the party has failed to foster unity or strategically manage post-election recovery.
One must ask: why has the entire party machinery thrown its weight behind Dr. Bawumia, a candidate with clear ambitions to run again? This alignment gives the impression that the party leadership is openly backing one candidate in what is expected to be another competitive Flagbearer contest. Wouldn’t it have been more prudent to allow Dr. Bawumia to conduct this tour independently?
Kennedy Agyapong, who has already declared his interest in contesting again, has accused the party of intimidating his supporters. In that context, inviting him to join a tour led by his chief rival seems disingenuous at best, and politically tone-deaf at worst.
Contrast this with the conduct of former President John Mahama, who, after his electoral losses in 2016 and 2020, embarked on his own “Thank You” tours without involving the full party leadership. Party figures like Asiedu Nketia only joined him publicly after he had been re-elected as Flagbearer.
The NPP leadership’s apparent bet on Dr. Bawumia’s return bid smacks of opportunism. They are pinning their own political futures to his, hoping that his popularity among delegates will secure their re-election at upcoming party congresses. This is a dangerous gamble, especially when the grassroots remain disillusioned and angry.
Moreover, the timing of the tour is questionable. The party is just months away from a critical national congress in July, where key constitutional amendments are expected. Wouldn’t it have been more strategic to focus on internal healing and reform first before venturing into public gestures of gratitude?
What the NPP truly needs right now is introspection, not pageantry. The 2024 election defeat should be an inflection point. The detailed report presented by Professor Mike Oquaye’s fact-finding committee offers the party a roadmap for reform. That document, not this tour, should be guiding the party’s next steps.
In short, this “Thank You” tour, rather than promoting unity, is aggravating divisions. It is a misjudged attempt at damage control that risks doing more harm than good.
Fred Kwesi Agbenyo, the Member of Parliament for Guan, has proposed repurposing the stalled National Cathedral project into housing for public sector workers as per reports from Citinewsroom.
This suggestion follows recent comments from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, who admitted that the unfinished cathedral project, despite $58 million in public funds, contributed to voter dissatisfaction and played a role in the NPP’s electoral defeat.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on April 29, 2025, Agbenyo expressed his concern over the project’s unfinished state, calling it a financial misstep by the previous government.
He remarked, “The investment that they made in the so-called cathedral. $58 million has gone down the drain.” He questioned how the project could ever be completed, suggesting that the funds and resources would be better allocated elsewhere.
To offer a solution, Agbenyo proposed converting the National Cathedral site into apartments for public sector workers, including those at the Ridge Hospital and ministries.
“My advice… is that we get some investors and convert that whole place into beautiful apartments for workers,” he said.
His remarks contribute to the ongoing debate about the future of the controversial National Cathedral project, which has drawn criticism for their high costs, lack of transparency, and their alignment with national priorities.
The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has urged all parties involved in the conflict mediation process in Bawku to fully cooperate in efforts to restore peace and stability to the area.
This appeal was contained in a set of resolutions adopted during the Association’s recent mid-year conference.
The GBA also pledged its support for the ongoing conflict mediation process.
“The Ghana Bar Association, noting with deep concern the conflict in Bawku and recognising its devastating impact on lives, property, and national cohesion, hereby resolves as follows: It commends the urgent and genuine mediation efforts in the Bawku conflict, emphasizing the importance of peace, dialogue, and national unity.
“The GBA calls for strong and unwavering support for the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and all traditional authorities engaged in the mediation process, and urges all parties to cooperate fully and respect the outcomes of mediation efforts aimed at restoring peace to Bawku,” it noted.
It reaffirmed its commitment to the conflict mediation process.
“The GBA commits to using its voice and platform to advocate for a peaceful resolution and will support any constitutional and legal measures necessary to secure enduring peace in Bawku,” it added.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has commenced a high-level mediation process aimed at resolving the protracted conflict in Bawku.
His intervention is expected to end decades of ethnic tension and violent clashes in the area, which have claimed lives, displaced residents, and undermined socio-economic development.

SPORTS AND RECREATION Minister Kofi Adams has voiced strong support for Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, praising his leadership despite recent struggles by the national teams.
Since Okraku assumed office in 2019, Ghana’s football fortunes, particularly those of the Black Stars have dipped, culminating in the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in two decades.
However, Minister Adams believes Okraku’s administration has achieved notable progress. “As challenging as the football system has been, Kurt Okraku has not done badly. He has corrected many wrongs,” Adams said.
He noted that while the GFA has solid development plans, their major hurdle has been execution. Highlighting achievements like the “Catch Them Young” referee initiative and the development of the Prampram training centre, Adams praised these efforts as signs of growth.
He added that CAF’s recognition of Ghana’s reforms likely influenced Okraku’s recent appointment as CAF’s second Vice President, underlining the international approval of Ghana’s football development path.
JoyNews has learned that a group of security operatives, who identified themselves as members of the National Security, allegedly attempted to remove five heavy-duty excavators from the office yard of the Ashanti Regional Forestry Commission.
According to JoyNews’ environmental journalist, Erastus Asare Donkoh, who has been closely covering the issue of illegal mining (galamsey) in the country, the armed men stormed the premises of the commission and made off with five of the machines.
Erastus reported that the men claimed they were acting on orders from a higher political authority to take the seized machines.
He noted that there was a confrontation between the commission’s officers and the security personnel, but the officers were overpowered, and the machines were driven away.
However, shortly after the machines were taken, the security men returned all five excavators to the commission. Upon inquiry, it was revealed that the so-called political authority had ordered the return of the machines.
Erastus explained that these excavators had been seized by the commission from illegal miners operating within forest reserves in the Ashanti region.
At the time of this report, JoyNews could not confirm the individuals behind the action.
“It is still unclear who directed that the seized excavators from the Kyemira extension of the Offin Shelter Belt should be returned or released,” he told Maame Esi Nyamekye Thompson on Joy FM’s midday news on Tuesday, 29th April.
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo and GBA president Efua Ghartey
The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has finally released details of the resolutions passed at its 2025 mid-year conference on the ongoing petitions for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
The details confirm earlier reports that the GBA is demanding that President John Dramani Mahama revoke the suspension of Chief Justice Torkornoo.
The association stated that the suspension of the Chief Justice by President Mahama was unconstitutional.
It argued that Mahama was not a judicial officer and there are no laws currently that give him the power to use his discretion to suspend the Chief Justice.
“The Ghana Bar Association calls for the immediate revocation of the suspension of the Chief Justice, as it considers the suspension to be unconstitutional, considering the fact that the President, who is not a judge or judicial officer, exercised his discretion to suspend the Chief Justice under Article 146(10) of the 1992 Constitution in the absence of a published Constitutional Instrument, Statutory Instrument, or Regulation(s) governing the exercise of his said discretion as required by Article 296 of the 1992 Constitution,” part of the resolution reads.
The association also demanded that President Mahama immediately release details of the determination of the prima facie case by the President and the Council of State.
“In addition, the Ghana Bar Association calls upon the President of the Republic of Ghana to immediately release the full decision establishing a prima facie case against the Chief Justice, consistent with established precedent. This disclosure is necessary to ensure that the process is conducted in accordance with the principles of transparency and fairness,” it said.
Furthermore, the GBA demanded the withdrawal of a directive from the Acting Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, concerning the assignment of courts and the fixing of dates for newly filed cases and applications.

Former Accra Hearts of Oak captain Amankwah Mireku has shared his thoughts on the upcoming clash between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, cautioning Hearts of Oak fans against expecting the dominance displayed in past encounters.
The two clubs will face off at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 3 pm. Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated fixture on GSP1, Mireku reflected on how the rivalry has evolved into a much more balanced contest in recent years.
“Hearts of Oak and Kotoko games are unpredictable. It’s not like during my time, when you could confidently claim we would beat Kotoko, as we did in the famous 4-0 victory,” he remarked.
During Mireku’s playing days, Hearts of Oak often enjoyed periods of superiority over their archrivals, approaching matches with unwavering confidence. However, he acknowledged that those days are behind them, though he remains hopeful.
“It’s going to be a tough match. Kotoko may be higher up the table, but that doesn’t guarantee victory. I believe Hearts of Oak still have a chance,” he added.
Both clubs are under pressure to perform. Hearts of Oak currently sit 6th on the league table, eight points behind the leaders, Goldstars, as they aim to mount a late title charge.
Asante Kotoko, meanwhile, are 4th on the table, just three points off the top, keeping their title hopes alive as the Super Clash approaches.

Rapper and singer King Paluta released not one, not two, but three hit songs during the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) year under review.
This has left his manager, Cofy Dela, puzzled as to why King Paluta is often labeled an underdog in the Artiste of the Year (AOTY) race.
Cofy Dela is baffled by the persistent underdog designation whenever the three potential AOTY winners—Stonebwoy, King Promise, and King Paluta—are mentioned, even though it’s clear that King Paluta has more than earned a seat at the table.
He believes that after dropping three bangers—‘Makoma,’ ‘Aseda,’ and ‘For the Papping (Apicki)’—King Paluta, born Thomas Adjei Wireko, deserves to be acknowledged as a serious contender, not just an afterthought in AOTY conversations.
In an interview with on Tuesday, April 22, Cofy Dela passionately defended his artiste’s status following a standout year.
Cofy Dela argued that the ‘Makoma’ hitmaker’s influence in the music industry during the review year has been unmatched. He highlighted King Paluta’s consistency, hit releases, and strong fan engagement as indicators of his leading position among his competitors.
“By the records available, King Paluta deserves it more than any other artiste in the AOTY category because his presence and impact in the year under review are dominant across the board. Among the contenders, can anyone mention even two hit songs in the award year?
“King Paluta doesn’t only have one or two but three hits—‘Aseda,’ ‘Makoma,’ and ‘For the Papping (Apicki),’ which are not mere releases, but pure bangers. They are street anthems that dominated the airwaves and resonated deeply with the people.
“And during last year’s election campaign season, Paluta’s songs played a significant role in energising political rallies. Did any of the contenders have such influence? No!”
Cofy Dela also expressed his frustration that the AOTY debate has shifted to international influence, and that King Paluta’s physical appearance is being used against him for an award whose criteria are already spelt out.
Moving away from the AOTY discussion, Cofy Dela shared what motivated him to manage King Paluta, saying, “I was inspired and drawn to King Paluta’s unique vision, drive, passion, and commitment to his craft.
“He is the true definition of perseverance, dedication, and consistency. This belief has fueled the desire to help realise his full potential and achieve success,” he said.

President John Dramani Mahama has described the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund (MahamaCares) initiative as a beacon of hope for thousands of Ghanaians battling long-term health conditions.
He said the fund is more than just a healthcare programme—it is a symbol of hope for families across the country.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative on Tuesday, April 29, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), Mr Mahama stated, “Today, April 29, we are launching more than just an initiative. We are launching hope – hope for thousands of Ghanaians living with chronic diseases, hope for families battling the overwhelming cost of care.”
He stressed that the fund represents a vital step towards achieving health equity, noting, “This is hope for a future where the quality of life is not determined by one’s ability to pay for essential treatment.”
President Mahama explained that the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund is designed to support specialist-level treatment for a range of chronic illnesses, including cancers, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney failure, and stroke.
He noted that the fund aims to close a major gap in Ghana’s healthcare system, where the cost of advanced treatment often makes it inaccessible to many.
According to Mr Mahama, the initiative underscores his commitment to building a more inclusive healthcare system—one in which no Ghanaian is left behind due to financial hardship.

Kofi, the young man who was subjected to brutal beatings by four guys at Atonsu in Kumasi has come forward with his account of the incident.
According to his account, he was deliberately targeted and robbed.
Speaking during a recent TikTok live session, Kofi alleged that the assault was a premeditated act orchestrated by the four men based on the suspicion that he is a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has expressed appreciation for the outpouring of public support for the newly launched Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares), citing unexpected donations from individuals, including a generous contribution from a pensioner.
This comes after President John Dramani Mahama announced that he is leading by example by giving up half of his annual salary to support healthcare in Ghana through the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.
The move aims to bolster medical services and improve access to quality healthcare for patients battling chronic and life-threatening illnesses.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen programme on Tuesday, April 29, Mr Akandoh shared a particularly moving moment.
“I was surprised that some people offered to voluntarily donate money to the initiative. I can recall a pensioner, Prof Ayittey, generously contributing a substantial amount of 1,000 dollars to support the cause,” he shared.
He highlighted the inspiring response as evidence of the wide-reaching impact and public goodwill surrounding the fund, which was unveiled by former President John Mahama to support specialist treatment for chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and kidney failure.
In a further show of solidarity, Mr Akandoh announced his personal commitment to the cause.
“Since the President has pledged to donate his six months’ salary to support the initiative, I am also donating three months’ salary to the fund,” he said.
He added that fellow ministers have also pledged their support. “Other ministers, such as Ofosu Agyare, Naa Momo Lartey, and others, have pledged to contribute one month’s salary in support.”

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has called on the Acting Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, to withdraw the directive concerning the assignment of courts and scheduling of newly filed cases and applications, citing concerns over clarity and the need for efficient justice delivery.
In a statement dated April 26, the GBA described the directive as “uncertain” and potentially disruptive to the judicial process.
The Association emphasised the need for transparency and predictability in how cases are assigned, particularly in a system where timely access to justice remains critical.
The GBA further urged the Judiciary to embrace and enhance the use of technology in the assignment of cases to various courts.
It argued that a tech-based approach would improve efficiency, reduce human interference, and promote fairness and transparency in the administration of justice.
“Recognising that the directive by His Lordship, the Acting Chief Justice on the assignment of cases by his office is uncertain and having regard to the importance of technology and the urgency of justice delivery, the Ghana Bar Association respectfully requests that this directive be withdrawn,” the statement read.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and gospel musician Kofi Sarpong has said he will continue to serve any Inspector General of Police (IGP) appointed by the government until the opportunity to serve as IGP is divinely placed in his hands.
Speaking on programme on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, ACP Sarpong responded to a question about whether he harbours ambitions of becoming the IGP someday.
“Destiny is in the hands of the Lord. He prepares, appoints and promotes. As I sit here now, I serve whoever is the IGP. I serve the present administration. Whoever will come, I will serve same. If it falls on my lap someday, I don’t know — but thanks be to God. But I am now serving,” he replied.
Reflecting on his journey in the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kofi Sarpong narrated that he began his career after completing Berekum Senior High School.
He revealed that he entered the service without a university degree and started from the very bottom of the rank structure, as a constable, after his training.
“After the training, I was Constable Class 2,” he said.
He continued that although he joined the Police Service straight from senior high school, he did not allow that to limit him. He pursued a short course shortly after passing out, and that step played a crucial role in his rise through the ranks.
“Because of the short course I did at the time, we had that dispensation that if you had a higher degree, you would be promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector. So I was promoted from the rank of Constable to Chief Inspector,” he shared.
He added that this opened the door for direct entry into the Police Academy, now known as the Police College, where he graduated as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). He was later promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), a milestone that inspired him to release an album.
“With direct entrance into the Police Academy, now Police College, I graduated as Assistant Superintendent of Police. Then I had DSP — that is Deputy Superintendent of Police. That is where, by God’s grace, I came up with an album,” he revealed.
He shared that his career continued to progress with further promotions — from Superintendent of Police to Chief Superintendent of Police, and now Assistant Commissioner of Police.
While acknowledging the role of divine grace in his journey, ACP Sarpong emphasized that discipline has been a critical part of his growth in the service and that it is discipline that has kept him serving for over 20 years.
“The Police Service is a disciplinary institution. Immediately you decide to enter, there are rules and regulations that you will have to follow. If you follow them all through, you will not have any problem. Be at duty at 8 a.m., you are there. You have been instructed to do something, you do it. If you are disciplined, obedient and follow the rules of the service, you are good to go,” he said.
Considering his current rank, which could potentially pave the way for a future as IGP, the ACP reiterated that although the future remains uncertain, he is content serving diligently under any IGP appointed by the state — trusting that God’s plan for his life will unfold in its own time.
Accra, April 29, GNA – The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has urged President John Mahama to release the full decision establishing a prima facie case against the Chief Justice, citing established precedent.
The Association said that transparency and fairness should guide the process.
In a resolution signed by National President Mrs. Efua Ghartey and National Secretary Kwaku Gyau Baffour after its mid-year conference, the GBA condemned unsubstantiated political commentary that undermines the Judiciary’s independence and integrity.
It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the sanctity of the judicial process and pledged legal measures to safeguard the Judiciary from undue interference or attacks.
The GBA earlier urged the Committee reviewing petitions against the Chief Justice to uphold the Rule of Law.
It emphasized that all individuals involved should act in accordance with Article 296 of the 1992 Constitution to preserve the Judiciary’s independence and image.
On the suspension of the Chief Justice, the Bar Association called for its immediate revocation, arguing that it was unconstitutional.
It noted that the President, not being a judge or judicial officer, exercised discretion under Article 146(10) of the 1992 Constitution without a published Constitutional Instrument, Statutory Instrument, or Regulation, as required by Article 296.
The GBA also called for clear regulations under Article 146 of the Constitution to ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness in proceedings involving Superior Court justices, particularly in impeachment or removal cases.
Acting under Article 146(6) of the Constitution and after consultations with the Council of State, President Mahama determined that a prima facie case had been established in response to three petitions against the Chief Justice.
Consequently, a committee has been established in line with Article 146(6) and in consultation with the Council of State.
Veteran Kumawood actor Agya Koo has expressed disappointment over what he describes as mistreatment from some of his colleagues in the film industry.
According to him, despite consistently showing respect, several of his peers have resorted to insulting him publicly in a bid to gain attention.
Agya Koo’s reaction follows a recent comment by Michael Afranie, who alleged that he declined to attend the recently held AshantiFest in Kumasi due to a ‘guilty conscience’ linked to his affiliation with the immediate past NPP government.
In a post shared on X on April 28, 2025, Agya Koo dismissed such claims, asserting that he has always maintained respectful communication and has never spoken ill of his colleagues.
He called on his peers to steer clear of sensationalism and instead focus on more meaningful discourse.
“Despite years in politics, I’ve maintained a record of respectful dialogue, never speaking ill of colleagues. Sadly, some have chosen to insult me for attention. Let’s focus on substance over sensationalism,” he posted.

A subsistence farmer from Nankese in the Eastern Region, Kwabena Huletey, is seeking GH¢9.9 million in damages for a seven-year ordeal of wrongful imprisonment that he said shattered his health, family, and livelihood.
Represented by private legal practitioner and activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, of Merton and Everette LLP, Huletey has sued the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Prisons Service, and the Attorney General, alleging systemic neglect and false accusations that led to his unjust detention.
According to a report by the Fourth Estate, Huletey’s troubles began in 2015 when he traveled to Akuapem Adawso to plan a customary marriage with 19-year-old Dela Hunukeh, a family friend’s daughter.
Recently separated from his first wife, with whom he had three children, Huletey embraced the match, unaware of the tragedy that would follow.
He soon discovered Hunukeh suffered from a chronic illness, and her family hoped the union would ease the financial burden of her treatment.
Despite his limited resources as a farmer, Huletey shouldered her medical costs, funding trips to health facilities at Adawso, Mampong, Tinkong, and eventually the Koforidua Roman Catholic Hospital.
The financial strain proved overwhelming for Huletey, who was unable to further afford immediate treatment for his fiancée.
After discussions with Hunukeh’s family, they agreed to delay additional hospital visits until Huletey could sell farm produce for funds.
Tragically, Hunukeh passed away before treatment could resume, succumbing to her illness, later identified as pneumonia.
In a twist of events, Huletey was arrested and charged with her murder, despite no evidence linking him to her death.
The Mampong District Court remanded him into custody, pending investigations and a year later, in 2016, the court ordered his release due to the failiure of state prosecutors and the police to bring a case against him.
However, instead of being granted his freedom, Huletey was inexplicably returned to Koforidua Prison by a police officer, with no legal basis.
There, he remained for five more years, abandoned by the system until the Justice for All Programme secured his release in 2022.
The seven years behind bars left Huletey broken.
According to his lawyers, he now battles severe lower back pain, muscle and bone ailments, hearing loss in his right ear, vision deterioration, and cognitive issues, including memory loss and confusion, all exacerbated by prison conditions and medical neglect.
“Huletey was held in Koforidua Prisons for 7 years, for killing someone when the person died from pneumonia. He was not even there when the person died.
“The court struck out the matter, but he was still kept in custody for the 7 years, because the CID just left him inside there,” Barker-Vormawor detailed in a Facebook post.
The emotional devastation, according to the Fourth Estate report, has equally been profound on Huletey.
During his detention, his sister, who relied on him financially, suffered a mental breakdown, his mother died without his knowledge, and he lost contact with his daughter and grandchildren.
The collapse of his marriage and family ties deepened his sense of loss, leaving him with “immeasurable emotional pain and deep psychological trauma,” according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit demands GH¢9.9 million, including GH¢500,000 for violating Huletey’s liberty and fair trial rights, GH¢500,000 for physical and psychological suffering, GH¢2 million for permanent health issues, GH¢500,000 for emotional trauma, GH¢3 million for lost livelihood, GH¢1 million for his marriage’s dissolution, GH¢1 million for separation from his daughter and grandchildren, GH¢1 million for severed family ties, and GH¢400,000 for legal fees.
Ghanaian football fans have taken to social media to express disbelief and frustration over the ticket prices announced for the upcoming Super Clash, describing them as inflated for a local league match.
Accra Hearts of Oak will face Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.
The highly anticipated clash has always attracted massive interest, but this time, the spotlight is on the pricing rather than the players.
With VIP and standard ticket prices significantly higher than usual, fans quickly flooded social media with humorous and sarcastic commentary.
Many argued that the current state of the Ghana Premier League does not justify such high prices, citing the league’s declining quality and low attendance in recent years.
Several commenters pointed out that even Black Stars matches, featuring top international players, are often more affordably priced.
As a result, many questioned why a local league match should cost more than a national team fixture, especially when interest in the Ghana Premier League continues to wane.
The general sentiment is that the ticket fees are out of touch with both the quality of the product on offer and the economic realities faced by the average Ghanaian supporter.
Despite the backlash, both clubs are under pressure to deliver on the pitch. Hearts of Oak currently sit 6th on the league table, eight points behind leaders Goldstars, and are hoping to mount a late title charge.
Asante Kotoko, on the other hand, are 4th and just three points off the top, keeping their title hopes very much alive. With both giants still in contention, the Super Clash remains a crucial fixture, but whether fans will show up in large numbers remains to be seen.
Ghanaian gospel musician and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Kofi Sarpong, has shared a fascinating story of how he transitioned from a childhood dream of becoming a teacher to answering the call of duty as a police officer.
Speaking on programme on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, ACP Sarpong reflected on how his path shifted, guided by what he now believes was divine purpose.
Like every child, Kofi Sarpong had a clear vision for his future.
“My ambition for the future at that time was to be a teacher because I love children a lot,” he shared.
He noted that even during his secondary school days at Berekum Senior High School (SHS), his desire to teach remained strong, which led him to pursue General Arts.
However, an encounter with former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Nana Owusu-Nsiah, in Accra changed everything.
“I still wanted to be a teacher even when I was in high school, until one day, I came to Accra to pay a visit to some people I knew. I met the former Inspector General of Police, Nana Owusu-Nsiah.
“We came from the same town. When I met him, he told me that the police were conducting an enlistment exercise, so he advised me to join,” he narrated.
According to him, his initial reaction was to reject the idea.
However, he said that later that night, a news segment on television showing large crowds of hopeful recruits caught his attention and stirred something in him, leading him to reconsider his decision.
“Later in the evening, I was watching television and saw the crowd. So I quickly went to Berekum, picked up my certificate, and met the team at Kumasi, where they were conducting another round of recruitment two weeks later,” he recounted.
That decision marked the beginning of a new chapter. After passing the recruitment and completing his training, ACP Sarpong was posted to the Police Headquarters, where his life as an officer officially began.
Looking back, ACP Kofi Sarpong said he has never regretted taking that path.
“Through the service and the gift of God, I have been able to impact children, and even young men and women. Sometimes, when I’m walking, I hear children shouting my name, ‘Kofi Sarpong, Kofi Sarpong.’ I feel the joy. I do not regret it at all,” he remarked.
He describes his role in the Ghana Police Service not as a job, but as a calling.
“God made us and everything around us. He protects life and property, and by extension, He has given me the opportunity as a police officer to do the same. If I do it well, then I’ve fulfilled what I wanted to do because life and property, including children, are protected,” he stated.
What started as a dream to educate has blossomed into a life of service, and in the eyes of ACP Kofi Sarpong, it is all part of a greater plan.
Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has announced that the National Apprenticeship Programme will prioritize the inclusion of marginalized groups, reserving 60% of available slots for women and 15% for persons with disabilities.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, the Minister emphasized the need for inclusive development, stating that women, often marginalized in employment opportunities, are a key focus of the programme.
“Women are a key component of what we are doing because they are mostly a marginalized group. Therefore, we are reserving a percentage of applications for women. We hope to achieve a maximum of 60% of the total applications from women and 15% for people living with disabilities to ensure that our initiative is inclusive for all marginalized individuals in our society,” he said.
The Minister added that men are not excluded. However, he encouraged more women and persons with disabilities to apply in order to ensure broader representation and impact.
“While we welcome applications from men, we hope to see more women apply so that everyone is well represented. Additionally, we are including individuals within the galamsey enclave and those who are being rehabilitated from drug abuse, so they can create a better life for themselves.”
The programme, launched on March 19, is being implemented by the National Youth Authority (NYA) and aims to provide practical, vocational training to equip young Ghanaians with employable skills.
It also targets individuals from galamsey-prone areas and those recovering from drug abuse, offering them a pathway to rehabilitation and sustainable livelihoods.
A great hairstyle can instantly elevate your look, boosting confidence and leaving a lasting impression. Since trends evolve constantly, experimenting with different styles keeps your appearance fresh and modern. Sleek buns work perfectly for formal events because they exude elegance while keeping hair neatly in place. If you prefer a more relaxed vibe, loose beach waves create a carefree yet polished effect, making them ideal for casual outings. Braids offer versatility, whether you opt for a classic French braid or a trendy fishtail, as they suit both everyday wear and special occasions. Short hairstyles like pixie cuts require minimal maintenance yet deliver maximum impact, framing the face beautifully for a bold statement. For those with longer hair, layered cuts add movement and volume, preventing styles from falling flat.
Curtain bangs have gained popularity because they soften facial features while complementing various hair lengths and textures. Accessories like hair clips and headbands can enhance simple styles, adding a touch of personality without much effort. Heatless curling methods protect hair from damage while still achieving bouncy, defined curls, making them a healthier alternative to hot tools. Textured updos work well for thick hair, as they balance volume while keeping strands secure. Ultimately, the right hairstyle depends on your hair type, face shape, and personal preference, so experimenting helps you discover what works best. With so many lovely options, switching up your look has never been easier or more exciting.

The Network of Women in Broadcasting (NOWIB) Ghana has joined journalists and media practitioners worldwide to commemorate World Press Freedom Day under the UNESCO theme: “Reporting in the Brave New World – The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media.”
This year’s theme highlights the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on journalism and its implications for press freedom globally. As media evolves with technological advancements, the Network of Women in Broadcasting emphasises the need for stakeholders to ensure these developments enhance rather than restrict journalistic freedom and integrity.
World Press Freedom Day serves as a reminder to governments worldwide to uphold their commitment to press freedom while offering media professionals an opportunity to reflect on issues of press freedom and professional ethics. It is also a day to support media organisations facing restrictions and to honour journalists who have lost their lives in pursuit of truth.
Ghana’s Progress
NOWIB acknowledges Ghana’s notable improvement in the 2024 World Press Freedom Index, where the country ranked 50th out of 180 countries, a significant jump from 62nd position in 2023. This 12-place improvement reflects positive changes in Ghana’s press freedom environment, particularly in the political context component where Ghana improved from 63rd to 51st position.
“While we celebrate Ghana’s progress in the World Press Freedom Index, we recognise that our press freedom remains classified as ‘problematic’ overall,” said Linda Biamah Akwafo (Maame Biamah Akwafo), President of Network of Women in Broadcasting. “The most encouraging aspect is our significant improvement in the safety and security of journalists component, where Ghana moved from 103rd to 72nd position. However, this improvement must be sustained through concrete actions by all stakeholders.”
Areas of Concern
Despite overall progress, the Network expressed concern about declining scores in the legal context, where Ghana dropped from 31st to 38th position, and in the sociocultural context, where the country’s score fell from 79 to 73 points. Additionally, reports of attacks on journalists and intrusions into media studios remain alarming.
Other persistent challenges include inadequate remuneration for journalists; insufficient training opportunities; vulnerability to corruption and self-censorship; and gender-based discrimination in the media industry.
The Network of Women in Broadcasting called for enhanced training programmes; implementation of comprehensive training initiatives focusing on ethical journalism, AI literacy, and digital safety for media practitioners; a review and amendment of laws that restrict press freedom, ensuring they align with international standards.
With a personal pledge to donate half of his annual salary, former President John Dramani Mahama has become the first major contributor to the newly launched Ghana Medical Trust Fund, an initiative designed to ease the financial burden on citizens battling chronic health conditions.

The portal, which went live on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, was launched by the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, as part of efforts to improve access to higher education in Ghana by removing financial barriers faced by students.
According to the Minister, the No-Fee-Stress policy is a “transformative, bold, and visionary initiative” aimed at tackling the financial constraints that prevent many Ghanaian students from pursuing tertiary education.
In a statement released on Tuesday, April 29, the Students Loan Trsut Fund he described the policy as a strategic investment in Ghana’s human capital and a key driver of inclusive and accessible higher learning.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President of Ghana
Former Vice President and 2024 NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called for civility and respect for all and sundry within the New Patriotic Party in order to actualise the party’s unity.
Addressing the party stakeholders in Ashanti Region during the national “Thank You Tour”, Dr Bawumia said every effort at uniting the party would be fruitless if party members do not uphold civil discourse and respect for fellow members.
“When your neighbour is at peace, you’ll also be at peace. So, it is very important for all of us to speak to fellow party members in a civil and respectful manner.”
“The unity of our party is very important and all our efforts at promoting peace, civil discourse and respect for all is very key. We cannot be fighting, insulting and disrespecting each other because of internal context and expect unity to prevail,” Dr Bawumia said.
Dr Bawumia urged the party members to desist from insulting one another saying “politics is a contest of ideas and if you support someone, campaign for the person based on what the person can do to help the party and the country. Don’t go about spreading propaganda about an opponent”.

Ghana arrests three Indian nationals over suspected gold smuggling ring
April 29 – Three Indian nationals have been arrested in Ghana on suspicion of operating a gold smuggling syndicate that authorities believe has been taking tons of the precious metal out of the country for over a decade, the West African country’s gold trading regulator said on Tuesday.
The three pleaded guilty at their arraignment and will remain in custody until a court hearing scheduled for May 12, a spokesperson for the regulator GoldBod said.
Ghana and some other African countries have been losing billions of dollars’ worth of gold every year due to smuggling.
The country established a new government body known as GoldBod in March to streamline gold purchases from small-scale miners, increase their earnings and reduce the impact of smuggling. Under the new system, foreign companies can only get the precious metal from GoldBod.
The regulator said on X that the suspects – aged 35, 22 and 42 – were apprehended at their residence in Ghana’s southern city of Kumasi, which investigators say had been converted into an unauthorised gold trading centre.
GoldBod also said they were in possession of 1.9 million cedis , 4,500 rupees , 4.363 kilograms of gold, two counting machines, a CCTV recorder and an Indian passport.
The regulator said the suspects had not provided GoldBod with residence permits, work authorisations or tax payment records related to their business activities.
“Much of the smuggled gold is exported to India, China and the United Arab Emirates and we lose,” GoldBod spokesperson Prince Kwame Minkah told Reuters.

Accra, April 29, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama in fulfillment of campaign promise to Ghanaians on Tuesday launched the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares), as part of efforts to relieve the financial burden of sufferers of chronic diseases.
The launch, which took place at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), Accra, saw the President donating his six months’ salary to the Fund.
It will support specialist-level treatment for a range of chronic diseases, including cancers, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney failure, stroke, and other complications.
Support from the Fund would be based on formal applications, carefully vetted, and would focus on costs not currently covered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The Fund’s main source of finance will come from the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL), the uncapped portion of the NHIL.
It will also include direct budgetary support from governments, voluntary contributions from corporates, institutions, and individuals, grants, donations, and it will also be able to invest to raise investment income.
The President said Mahama Cares launch was a landmark initiative introduced by his government to decisively confront the growing burden of chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
He said the fight against NCDs was intrinsically linked to their broader national development agenda, particularly the sustainable development goals, and most notably, Sustainable Development Goal Three (SDG 3), which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
He noted that specifically, under SDG 3, Target 3.4 commits the global community to reduce premature mortality from NCDs by one third by 2030 through prevention, treatment, and promotion of mental health and well-being.
President Mahama reiterated that across the globe, NCDs, including cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory conditions, diabetes, and mental health disorders, remain the leading cause of mortality, accounting for over 43 million deaths annually worldwide.
He said worryingly, the burden was disproportionately borne by low- and middle-income countries, such as Ghana, posing not only a public health crisis, but also a profound social and economic threat.
President Mahama said NCDs exacerbate poverty, they widen social inequality, and undermine economic development; adding that vulnerable populations, especially those with lower education, limited access to health care, and lower income levels were currently most at risk.
The President said addressing the NCDs menace was therefore not merely a health imperative, stating that it was essential for advancing economic growth, promoting social justice, and securing environmental sustainability.
He said NCDs consistently rank among the top 10 causes of death nationwide; stating that “even more disturbing is the steep rise in hospitalized cancer cases, which jumped from 3,487 patients in 2012 to 16,105 in 2016”.
He said alarmingly, adults aged from 18 to 45, the prime of the nation’s workforce, account for more than half of these cases, 16,000 cases.
“This troubling trend is driven by a convergence of factors. One, shifting lifestyles characterized by things like tobacco use, alcohol abuse, unhealthy diets, and sedentary behavior. And, increased environmental factors,” the President said.
“The cost of treatment is not just disturbing. It can be devastating for low-income families. Estimates from our teaching hospitals reveal that the average annual cost of non-communicable disease treatment per patient, averagely, stands at GH¢53,000 annually. And that’s equivalent to about 3,300 US dollars.”
He said managing chronic conditions imposes crushing financial burdens on families, often pushing them below the poverty line, and deepening their vulnerability.
“It is estimated that individuals diagnosed with chronic diseases face a 75 per cent likelihood of falling into poverty within five years, regardless of their original economic standing,” President Mahama.
“And so, it even ruins rich people. I mean, you spend all your money trying to find a cure.”
He said those battling kidney and cardiovascular diseases were reported to spend between 70 per cent and 95 per cent of their non-food expenditure on health care alone.
The President said older adults living with chronic conditions spend five times more on health care than their healthier counterparts.
He said despite the important strides made through the National Health Insurance Scheme; it remains inadequate in fully covering NCD-related services and medications.
Citing that in 2018, around 48 per cent of all NHIS claims were related to NCDs, yet essential services remain outside the NHIS coverage, leaving families dangerously exposed to out-of-pocket payments.
“It is against this background that shortly after my election as president, I directed the Honorable Minister for Health to initiate the establishment of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, a commitment captured faithfully in the 2024 People’s Manifesto of the National Democratic Congress,” the President said.
President Mahama further lauded Reverend Emeritus Professor Seth Aryeetey, the Chair of the National Task Force for the establishment of the Mahama Cares for fulfilling their mandate.
Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to achieving universal health coverage for the people of Ghana.
He said the Ghana Medical Trust Fund aligns strategically with their key sectorial policy frameworks including the National Health Policy 2020, Ghana’s Roadmap for Attaining Universal Health Coverage 2020 to 2023, 2020 to 2030, the Essential Health Services Package 2022 to 2030, and the National Policy on Non-Communicable Disease 2022.
He noted the Fund not only provides a long overdue lifeline to those bedded by chronic illness, but also positions Ghana as a leader in innovative, people-centered, and compassionate healthcare reform.
Mr Akandoh said the Bill for the Mahama Cares Fund would be placed before Parliament upon its resumption from recess.
Rev Emeritus Prof Aryettey, who underscored the need to as many Ghanaians as possible to support the Fund, presented a check of $1,000.00 in support of the Fund.
Dr Kwame Anim-Boamah, the Chief Executive Officer of UGMC, who on behalf of the Centre made a pledge of GH¢100,000.00 to the Fund, also lauded the President for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system.
The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has issued a strong call for the immediate revocation of the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, describing the action as unconstitutional and lacking a legal basis under Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.
In a statement dated April 26, the GBA contended that the President’s decision to suspend the Chief Justice under Article 146(10) of the Constitution is flawed.
According to the Association, the suspension was carried out without any published Constitutional Instrument, Statutory Instrument, or regulation governing the exercise of that presidential discretion, in violation of Article 296 of the Constitution.
“The Ghana Bar Association calls for the immediate revocation of the suspension of the Chief Justice as it considers the suspension to be unconstitutional,” the statement read.
In addition to the revocation demand, the GBA urged the government to immediately enact clear and comprehensive regulations to guide all processes under Article 146, which governs the impeachment or removal of Superior Court justices.
The absence of such regulatory frameworks, the Association argues, undermines transparency, fairness, and accountability in proceedings involving members of the judiciary.
The GBA also called on the President to release the full decision establishing a prima facie case against Chief Justice Torkornoo, stating that such a move would be in line with established precedent and essential for ensuring procedural fairness and transparency.
Furthermore, the Bar Association condemned what it described as prejudicial and politically motivated commentary surrounding the matter, warning that such statements risk eroding public trust in the judiciary.
“The Association affirms its commitment to safeguarding the sanctity of the judicial process and resolves to take all appropriate legal measures to protect the Judiciary from undue interference or unjustifiable attacks,” the statement added.
The suspension of the Chief Justice has sparked widespread debate across Ghana’s legal and political circles, with many closely watching how the situation unfolds in the coming days.

President John Dramani Mahama has launched the Ghana Medical Trust Fund
President John Dramani Mahama has shared his personal connection to Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), using personal experiences to point out the need for greater investments in healthcare.
Speaking at the launch of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, he stressed the need for collaborative efforts to tackle the growing burden of NCDs.
“I have a personal connection to Non-Communicable Diseases and that is because my father died in 2001, and he died of prostate cancer. My mother died in 2016, and she died of complications of high blood pressure and diabetes. My stepmother died of breast cancer. I lost a friend and somebody who worked for me last year. We celebrated one year since she passed. I’m sure most of you know Mawuena Dumor; she died of breast cancer.
“And currently, I have a staff in my office whose son is in his 30s and is on dialysis, suffering kidney failure. And so, these are not things that are far away from us, these are things that are close to us. These are loved ones that we are talking about, we must not see them as statistics,” he stated.
President Mahama was hopeful the fund, also known as Mahama Cares, would alleviate the plight of Ghanaians suffering from NCDs.
“This is why today’s launch is so important. The Ghana Medical Trust Fund will make a difference in lives that are silently suffering. It will provide hope. It will provide support. And it will remind all of us that the fight against Non-Communicable Diseases must be personal because they affect all of us,” he added.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund seeks to improve access to quality healthcare for patients battling chronic and life-threatening illnesses.

Kennedy Agyapong, a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, had an altercation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, during the party’s ongoing nationwide “Thank You Tour” on Monday, April 28, 2025.
Kennedy, who also contested as a presidential aspirant for the NPP, was part of the tour in Berekum in the Bono Region. The exchange occurred after Abronye addressed party supporters at the event.
While addressing the gathering, Abronye tackled critical issues he believed the party needed to resolve, including accusations against him.
He recounted claims that he had masterminded a politically motivated plot against a specific presidential candidate before the party’s internal elections last year.
He also faced criticism for his alleged allegiance to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate.
Abronye refuted all accusations and expressed his thoughts on what, in his opinion, led to the party’s loss of power.
“Arrogance is what has brought us here,” Abronye exclaimed.
He warned party leaders to desist from making statements that might give the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) an edge ahead of the 2028 elections.
He further cautioned against insults within the party while emphasising the need for genuine unity.
Although Abronye did not direct his remarks to a specific individual, Kennedy Agyapong, who later took his turn to speak, seemingly responded to Abronye with gestures and statements indirectly aimed at him.
Kennedy Agyapong’s three shots at Abronye
1.Beggar
Kennedy criticised individuals who, according to him, fail to contribute financially to the party but act as though they are superior to others.
“Nobody is a better man than the other, but because of this party, some people talk as if they are men. They are not men but women. When it comes to monetary contributions, they cannot partake in it.
“They have to go and beg, yet they talk as if the whole world is for them. If not for the sake of unity, some of them cannot even speak the way they speak because they are even shy coming to my house,” Kennedy said furiously.
2.Poor man with confidence
Kennedy expressed frustration over individuals who display arrogance despite receiving financial support from the party.
“With some, we buy cars for them, and they will come out to do ‘too known.’ I will respect you, but I won’t respond to some people, or else you would see a showdown. I have money; I don’t beg.
3.Talk Anyhow
Kennedy cautioned Abronye to watch his words, stating, “Even you, poor people, think you can talk with confidence, how about rich men like me? Please! Who born dog for you to talk anyhow?”

PIAC releases 2024 annual report on petroleum revenues
Ghana’s petroleum revenue surged to US$1.35 billion in 2024, representing a 27.8% increase from the US$1.06 billion earned in 2023, according to the 2024 Annual Report by the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC).
This marks the second-highest annual petroleum revenue since Ghana commenced oil production in 2011. The all-time record remains the US$1.42 billion earned in 2022.
PIAC attributes the increase in 2024 earnings to higher international crude oil prices, which helped cushion the impact of a continued decline in oil production.
Crude oil output fell for the fifth consecutive year, dropping to 48.25 million barrels in 2024 from a peak of 71.44 million barrels in 2019.
The report cited a marginal year-on-year decline of 0.01%, with an average annual drop of 7.4% over the past five years.
Raising concerns over the persistent production downturn, PIAC urged the government to intensify efforts to attract fresh investment into Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector.
“Parliament should ensure that the Ministry of Energy and its allied agencies increase efforts to secure investments in Ghana’s upstream petroleum industry,” the report recommended.
The 14th edition of the PIAC Annual Report covers the performance of Ghana’s petroleum sector from January to December 2024, providing detailed analysis on production, liftings, revenue distribution, and utilisation of petroleum funds.

Ghanaian-American pop sensation Serwah Ama Genfi, popularly known as Amaarae, has called on fans of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy to refrain from engaging in online banter following her recent expression of admiration for Shatta Wale.
Amaarae, on April 28, 2025, hosted her highly anticipated “Black Star Block Party” at the Republic Bar in Osu.
During her performance, she openly praised Shatta Wale, describing him as a powerful force in the Ghanaian music industry.
She acknowledged that while the “Ayoo” hitmaker has had controversial moments, including verbal spats with other artists, his contributions to the industry remain significant.
Following her remarks, some fans of Stonebwoy took to social media to question why she didn’t also acknowledge the “Jejereje” hitmaker during the event.
Responding to the backlash, Amaarae took to her social media platforms to clarify her position and appeal to both SM (Shatta Movement) and BHIM Nation fans to avoid stirring unnecessary controversy.
“SM & BHIM fans! Please don’t go and cause trouble on my top I beg. Stonebwoy has been my big brother for years. And I also love Shatta’s music,” she wrote.
Amaarae explained that the reason Stonebwoy’s music wasn’t highlighted during the show was simply because the DJ did not play any of his songs.
“The DJ played Freedom and the party went up so I bigged Shatta! I also bigged Efya for like 10 minutes & we performed her songs together. I bigged Eazzy! If the DJ played any Stone bangers I would have bigged him too!” she added.
Amaarae’s remarks aim to clear the air and reaffirm her respect for both artists, emphasising that her admiration for one does not take away from her appreciation for the other.

The squad features a blend of foreign-based and domestic players, with notable names such as Princella Adubea (Abu Dhabi CC), Alice Kusi (Al Ahli SFC), Elizabeth Oppong (Apollon Ladies), and Justice Tweneboaa (BIIK Kazygurt) among the prominent international inclusions.

Police in Buhweju District, western Uganda, are awaiting a court order to exhume the body of a 53-year-old man allegedly murdered and buried in the bedroom of his home by his wife, authorities said on Tuesday.
A 46-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the death of her husband Patrick Bainomugisha, who was reportedly killed on the night of April 13, 2025, in Kaniga 1 Village, according to preliminary police investigations.
The alleged murder stemmed from a domestic dispute. Local security committee chairperson Michael Tindyebwa said the suspect told him at the police station that she “hit Bainomugisha with a club in the back neck mistakenly during a domestic quarrel,” resulting in his immediate death, after which she buried him.
Rwengwe Sub-county chairperson Frank Mukama said residents gathered at Bainomugisha’s home, who had been missing since before Easter.
By Sunday evening, police had been deployed to secure the premises while awaiting the court order to enter the bedroom where the body is believed to be buried.
Buhweju Resident District Commissioner Pulkeria Muhindo emphasized the need for due process.
“We cannot just exhume the body of the deceased because it needs a court process,” she said.
Muhindo added that the suspect is in custody and urged family heads to fulfill their responsibilities to prevent domestic violence, noting the wife accused the deceased of neglecting his family duties, particularly school fees.
Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson SP Marcial Tumusiime confirmed the arrest and the suspect’s confession.
“The cause of the murder is as a result of domestic violence, and it was a very unfortunate incident just because of the misunderstandings between the couple. The suspect accuses the deceased for not catering for children in terms of paying school fees,” he stated.
Tumusiime added that Nshemererwe was apprehended on April 14 in Mbarara City while attempting to flee and is currently detained at Buhweju police station.
The exhumation of Bainomugisha’s body is pending the necessary legal procedures.

A mobile money agent tragically lost his life on Monday, 28th April, following an armed robbery by unknown assailants at Aflao in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.
According to Sylvia Awumey, a journalist based in Ketu South, the incident occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Monday.
She reported that the deceased, Christopher Ahordo, popularly known in the area as Colombo, had unusually extended his working hours beyond his typical 5:00 p.m. closing time under unclear circumstances.
Eyewitnesses stated that while Colombo was in the process of closing his mobile money (MoMo) shop at about 6:15 p.m., two men dressed in long robes, with their faces covered and wielding pump-action guns, approached him.
They seized a bag believed to contain money, and as they were leaving the scene, one of the robbers shot him in the left side of his chest.
Colombo is said to have died at the scene. Witnesses indicated they were unable to assist him immediately, as the assailants were firing indiscriminately while fleeing into a nearby bush.
The incident reportedly occurred at Gbagblakope, near the Diamond Cement Factory in Aflao.
According to Sylvia, residents retrieved the body and conveyed it to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital mortuary.
The matter has since been reported to the municipal police, who are now handling the investigation.
MoMo robberies have become a common occurrence in Ghana, with several people losing their lives. This year alone, multiple incidents have been reported in the Ashanti Region, with fatalities recorded.
Former Real Madrid player Julio Baptista has urged Premier League club Arsenal to sign another midfielder to give competition to Ghanaian player Thomas Partey in the 2025/2026 season.
The ex-Arsenal star suggested that although Partey is still playing at a peak level and giving the club control and dominance in midfield, it would be prudent for a new signing to be made to understudy the player for an easy transition.
The Brazilian advised head coach Mikel Arteta to heed his call and renew Partey’s contract, as he is still thriving for the club.
“I think for Arsenal, Thomas Partey has been an incredible player. In Partey, Arteta has found a player who understands what he wants. If I’m Arteta, I’d renew his contract but also bring in another player and put him under a bit of pressure, make him sweat.
“Put a player behind him in the pecking order who can start to understand how he plays and what he does for the team and ease him into the action,” he said, as quoted by Tribuna.
Baptista further indicated that Partey’s age, which is over 30 years, should not deter the Gunners from renewing his contract, as players perform well despite their age in recent times.
“I know he’s older, but I believe his age shouldn’t be a decisive factor in whether or not Arsenal gives him a new deal. Players are much fitter these days,” he added.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Arsenal are negotiating with the Black Stars midfielder to renew his contract for one year with an option to extend for another year.

The Minority caucus on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament has called on the government to act urgently following the United States’ issuance of a Level 2 Travel Advisory on Ghana.
The advisory warns U.S. citizens to “exercise increased caution” when travelling to Ghana due to rising violent crimes, weak law enforcement, and under-reported serious offences such as sexual assault.
It also flags indicators of widespread violence, political unrest, and organised crime.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Ranking Member of the Committee, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, the Minority described the development as a “serious indictment” of Ghana’s reputation as a safe and democratic country.
They attributed the advisory to the government’s failure to address growing insecurity, law enforcement breakdown, and impunity in the face of rising violent incidents, particularly in Bawku in the Upper East region.
The caucus also raised concerns about the government’s silence on serious allegations, including drug trafficking and money laundering, warning that the situation could deter investors and harm Ghana’s global image.
They demanded immediate action from the government to restore the rule of law, rebuild trust in security institutions, and restore Ghana’s standing in the international community.

Former Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpiani, has criticised the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ongoing ‘Thank You tour’, calling for it to be suspended immediately.
He argues that the tour is ill-timed and unhelpful in the aftermath of the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday, April 29, Mr Mpiani described the tour as a “misplaced priority” and urged party leaders to shift their focus towards internal reflection and addressing the issues that contributed to the electoral loss.
“There is a need to suspend the ‘Thank You’ tour,” he said. “What is happening is not good for the party. The NPP must take a step back, go indoors, and find a way out of this mess.”
Mr Mpiani clarified that, as he is not a member of the party’s National Council, he is unaware of the reasons behind the decision to embark on the tour. Nevertheless, he questioned its timing and warned that it might deepen internal divisions.
“Maybe if I had been there, I would have given them my advice earlier. But I can’t fault them without knowing the reasons behind the decision. Still, I believe it was the wrong move,” he stated.
He continued, “They should suspend the ongoing ‘Thank You’ tour, get back indoors, look at the issues, and find a better way to approach the members.”
Dr Bawumia, the 2024 flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has commenced a ‘thank-you tour’ following the party’s landslide defeat in the 2024 general elections.
According to the party, the tour forms part of efforts to rebuild and re-energise the party ahead of the 2028 elections, while also appreciating the contributions of party members during the last campaign.
The tour comes on the heels of a report by a 12-member committee, chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof Mike Oquaye, which was established to investigate the reasons behind the party’s electoral loss.
The party declined to make the contents of the report public.

Movement for Change has expresses shock at the Ghana Bar Association’s request for the president to reverse the suspension of the Chief Justice
The Movement for Change (MFC) has declared its support for the constitutional procedures surrounding the recent suspension of Ghana’s Chief Justice, reaffirming its commitment to justice, fairness, and democratic values.
President John Mahama has pledged to donate his six-month salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares.
The President made the pledge on Wednesday, April 29, during the launch of the healthcare delivery initiative at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) in Accra.
Following his announcement, he urged corporate bodies to also support the initiative.
“I want to encourage corporate Ghana, businesses, the mines, the banks, and all other companies that the Ghana Medical Trust Fund is reaching out to your clients who save their money in your banks or do business with you. Some of them are even your own staff.
“So, as part of your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), if you give anything, consider that you are giving to your own staff or customers. I would like to encourage all corporations in Ghana, both private and public, to, at the end of the year, donate a portion of their annual CSR to the Ghana Medical Fund because it is going to do a lot of good for the country,” he said.
The initiative fulfills a campaign promise President Mahama made to Ghanaians during the NDC manifesto launch on August 24, 2024, in Winneba.
The fund will assist people suffering from chronic conditions such as kidney failure, diabetes, and other health issues.
While acknowledging the National Health Insurance Scheme’s (NHIS) role in healthcare delivery, the government has emphasized the need to cover specialized treatments.
Lead preacher at the Takoradi Church of Christ, Dr. Daniel Owusu Asiamah
The lead preacher at the Takoradi Church of Christ, Dr. Daniel Owusu Asiamah, has made a controversial statement, declaring that no pastor in Ghana has the power to heal persons living with disabilities.
In a video circulating online on April 28, 2025, Dr. Owusu Asiamah asserted that any pastor who claims the ability to heal physically challenged individuals is a liar and not a true servant of God.
He further alleged that many of these so-called healers resort to black magic.
“We don’t have a single pastor in Ghana who can heal someone born with a disability. They are all liars,” he said.
“That kind of healing no longer exists. But because they refuse to accept this, they’ve turned to black magic, white magic, and occult practices,” he added.
Dr. Owusu Asiamah emphasised that pastors involved in such practices are driven by financial gain rather than a genuine calling to serve God.
“I’ll say it again, this kind of healing doesn’t exist. No pastor should attack me for speaking the truth. What some of these pastors are doing to their congregations is unjust.
“You’ll see a pastor falsely prophesying to his church members just to exploit them for money,” he added.
