A Strategic Imperative for Ghanaian Businesses

0

In the current business environment of Ghana and the broader African continent, securing the right talent is not merely a human resource function but a strategic necessity.

The individuals we bring into our organisations significantly influence our capacity to innovate, adapt, and thrive. In my experience leading a recruitment agency in Ghana, I have observed that mastering the art of hiring is pivotal for organisational success.

Here are key considerations and best practices tailored to the Ghanaian and African context to ensure effective recruitment.

1. Understanding the Local Talent Landscape

Ghana boasts a youthful and vibrant workforce, presenting opportunities and challenges for employers. While the abundance of young talent is promising, a notable skills gap exists between industry requirements and job seekers’ competencies. This disparity underscores employers’ need to invest in comprehensive training and development programs to bridge this gap and cultivate a workforce equipped for contemporary challenges.

Understanding the Skills Gap

Recent studies have illuminated the extent of this skills mismatch. According to the Ghana Youth Barometer 2024 Report, only 40.3% of youth believe that the education system adequately prepares them for the future. The report emphasizes a notable deficiency in practical skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

Furthermore, research by the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) underscores a significant gap between the knowledge and skills provided by the education system and those demanded by the labor market. This misalignment contributes to high rates of underemployment and unemployment among Ghanaian youth.

To address these challenges, employers can adopt several strategies:

● Collaborative Training Programs: Partnering with educational institutions to design curricula that reflect current industry needs ensures that graduates possess relevant skills upon entering the workforce.

● Internships and Apprenticeships: These programs offer hands-on learning opportunities and allow students and recent graduates to gain practical experience, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.

● Continuous Professional Development: Implementing ongoing training initiatives helps current employees stay updated with evolving industry trends and technologies, fostering a culture of lifelong learning.

● Mentorship Schemes: Establishing mentorship programs connects less experienced employees with seasoned professionals, facilitating knowledge transfer and skill enhancement.

2. Cultural Fit: Aligning Values and Vision

In Ghanaian corporate culture, communal values and respect for hierarchy are emphasised. Ensuring that potential hires resonate with the organization’s core values and cultural nuances is essential. A candidate’s ability to integrate seamlessly into the company’s culture can significantly impact team cohesion and productivity.

The Significance of Cultural Fit

Cultural fit refers to the alignment between an individual’s values, beliefs, and behaviours and those of the organisation. Assessing cultural fit is crucial during the hiring process because it ensures new employees can easily adapt to the organisational culture and work well with the existing team.

To ensure alignment between potential hires and organisational culture, consider the following approaches:

● Clearly Define Organisational Values: Articulate the company’s mission, vision, and values to both current employees and prospective candidates. This clarity helps attract individuals who naturally align with the organization’s ethos.

● Incorporate Behavioral Interview Techniques: Utilize interview questions that explore how candidates have handled situations reflecting the company’s core values, particularly those emphasizing communal collaboration and respect for hierarchy.

● Provide Realistic Job Previews: Offer candidates insights into the company’s working environment, expectations, and cultural norms to help them self-assess their fit within the organization.

3. Leveraging Data-Driven Recruitment Strategies

The advent of technology has revolutionised recruitment processes globally. Adopting data-driven recruitment strategies in Ghana enables organizations to make informed hiring decisions. Utilizing analytics to assess candidate competencies, predict job performance, and identify potential retention risks can enhance the quality of hires.

To effectively adopt these strategies, organizations should:

● Invest in Technology: Implement Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and recruitment software that collect and analyze data throughout the hiring process.

● Define Key Metrics: Establish clear recruitment metrics aligned with organizational goals, such as time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, and quality-of-hire.

● Train HR Personnel: Equip human resources teams with the necessary skills to interpret data analytics and apply insights effectively.

4. Collaborating with Specialized Recruitment Partners

Navigating the complexities of talent acquisition in Ghana can be daunting. Partnering with specialized recruitment agencies offers access to extensive networks and industry insights. These agencies possess the expertise to identify and attract candidates who have both the requisite skills and align with the organization’s culture and long-term objectives.

Advantages of collaborating with specialized recruitment agencies

● Access to a Broad Talent Pool: Specialized agencies like Jobberman maintain extensive databases of qualified professionals across various sectors, enabling organizations to tap into diverse candidates, including those with niche skill sets.

● Industry-Specific Expertise: These agencies have a deep understanding of specific industries, allowing them to effectively match candidates’ competencies with the unique demands of the sector.

● Efficient Recruitment Processes: Leveraging their experience and resources, recruitment agencies streamline the hiring process, reducing time-to-fill and allowing internal teams to focus on core business activities.

● Enhanced Candidate Screening: Through rigorous screening and assessment procedures, agencies ensure that only candidates who meet the organization’s criteria and exhibit cultural fit are presented, thereby improving the quality of hires.

● Cost-Effective Solutions: By minimizing the risks associated with bad hires and reducing turnover rates, specialized recruitment partners contribute to long-term cost savings for organizations.

5. Emphasizing Employer Branding

A strong employer brand is a magnet for top talent in a competitive job market. Organizations should actively showcase their values, culture, and employee value propositions. Engaging in corporate social responsibility initiatives, promoting success stories, and maintaining a positive workplace culture can enhance the organization’s reputation and attract high-caliber candidates.

Here are key strategies to enhance employer branding.

● Showcase Company Culture and Values: Clearly communicate your organization’s mission, values, and culture through various channels, including your website, social media, and job postings. Highlighting what makes your workplace unique helps potential candidates assess their fit within the company.

● Highlight Employee Success Stories: Share testimonials and stories of current employees who have thrived within your organization. This not only humanizes your brand but also provides tangible examples of career growth and satisfaction, appealing to prospective candidates.

● Maintain a Positive Candidate Experience: Ensure that your recruitment process is transparent, respectful, and efficient. A positive candidate experience reflects well on your employer brand and can lead to favorable word-of-mouth recommendations.

Conclusion

Securing the right hire in Ghana requires a multifaceted approach that encompasses understanding the local talent landscape, ensuring cultural fit, leveraging technology, collaborating with recruitment experts, fostering continuous learning, and strengthening employer branding. By integrating these strategies, organisations can build robust teams capable of propelling sustained growth and success in the Ghanaian and African markets.

My father insists I shouldn’t get married, he wants me to just have kids

0

File photo of a worried man File photo of a worried man

Dear GhanaWeb,

I’m a 34-year-old man doing well for myself. I’ve always had the desire to get married and build a family, but ever since I turned 18, my father has consistently advised me never to consider marriage.

According to him, marriage won’t make me happy.

Instead, he has encouraged me to have children with women I like and simply take care of them.

My father often shares how marriage ruined his own life.

Although he never divorced my mother, he remains strongly against any man committing to one woman.

Ironically, he and my mother are still together.

They seem happy, he takes care of the home and everything else. But whenever I ask him about it, he tells me that he only stayed and made sacrifices for our sake, not because he’s truly happy.

Over the years, he has shown and told me things that made marriage seem like a loss for him.

Some of his frustrations are clear, frequent arguments, unfulfilled goals, a lack of personal freedom, and certain actions of my mother that he still holds onto.

He often says that if I choose to marry, it will only be to make a woman happy and comfortable, but my own happiness and freedom will suffer.

What’s confusing is that, despite everything he says, I grew up in what looked like a loving, peaceful home. My parents smiled, supported us, and never made us feel like something was missing.

I admire the idea of family because of how I was raised. But my father insists it was all a front, just the version of their life he wanted us to see.

Now, I find myself scared to even talk to him about wanting to get married. I doubt he’d be happy to hear it.

He has made it seem like there’s no real benefit in marriage, apart from having children.

I’m financially stable, I earn well, and I wasn’t raised to move from one woman to another. I’m content with the idea of settling down with just one woman.

Still, my father insists I’ll regret that decision, that choosing one woman will eventually feel like a trap, but by then, it will be too late.

He said if I ever marry, I must never think of divorce and should do everything to make it work, just like he did.

This issue has weighed heavily on my mind, and it’s one of the main reasons I haven’t married or had children yet.

Should I listen to my father and just have kids without getting married?

Or should I trust my own values and find a decent woman to marry and build a life with?

Govt to increase investment in Island communities

0

Government is set to expand investment in renewable energy infrastructure for island and lake communities, with plans to electrify 150 additional off-grid locations across the country.

This announcement comes on the back of the commissioning of mini-grid electrification projects in three island communities—Azizakpe, Alorkem, and Aflive—in the Ada East District. Funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the projects bring electricity to these communities for the first time.

Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, speaking at the commissioning ceremony, said the initiative marks a significant step toward improving economic activities and livelihoods in hard-to-reach areas.

He emphasized that the electrification drive aligns with the government’s broader energy policy agenda.

“Very soon, we shall launch a bold program, a new programme that seeks to bring on board over 250,000 people living across 150 island and lake communities allowing them to also have access to electricity.

“This is just the tip of the iceberg. We intend to pursue and ambitious and aggressive programme where our ultimate objective will be to hook on 150 island and lake communities so that they can also get access to electricity,” he said.

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition indicated that the initiative will not only expand the reach of renewable energy but also fast-track Ghana’s journey toward energy equity and inclusion.

“This initiative will certainly expand the reach of renewable energy to even more underserved areas, accelerating our efforts towards energy equity and inclusion and achieving our primary objective of hitting 99.8% access to electricity in line with our policy of light for life program,” John Jinapor added.

The newly commissioned mini-grids are expected to boost productivity, support small businesses, and improve living standards in the beneficiary communities.

Ghana launches $1m fund to boost agriculture in Northern Regions

0

In a major step toward enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring food security, Ghana’s Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has officially launched a US$1 million revolving fund aimed at supporting smallholder farmers in the country’s northern regions.

The fund, established in partnership with ARB Apex Bank, was announced at a ceremony held in Accra. The initiative is backed by a US$20 million grant from the Global Agriculture and Food Security Programme (GAFSP), with additional support from the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Speaking at the event, Eric Opoku lauded the programme for its substantial contribution to Ghana’s agricultural sector, particularly in the Northern Savannah Ecological Zone. He also expressed gratitude to the AfDB for its ongoing efforts in advancing sustainable agricultural development in the country.

“This initiative is not merely about financial assistance; it is about building sustainable and resilient food systems that will uplift the livelihoods of our communities,” the Minister stated.

The program targets 12 districts across six regions and is designed to benefit thousands of smallholder farmers, with a special focus on women and youth—groups disproportionately affected by food insecurity.

Key components of the project include:

Access to climate-smart agricultural inputs for staple crops such as maize, rice, soybean, cowpea, and groundnuts.

Improved mechanization services through the provision of handheld equipment.

Distribution of solar-powered micro-irrigation kits to facilitate year-round vegetable farming.

Promotion of household poultry farming to enhance nutritional diversity.

Establishment of the US$1 million revolving fund, providing affordable financial services to actors along the agricultural value chain.

The revolving fund is expected to provide much-needed capital at competitive interest rates, helping farmers and agribusinesses scale operations, improve productivity, and strengthen resilience in the face of climate-related challenges.

Alabaster Box ‘slaps’ Medikal with GH¢15 million lawsuit

0

Ghanaian rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has been sued by music group Alabaster Box for allegedly sampling their popular song “Akwaaba” without permission.

It will be recalled that on April 8, 2025, Alabaster Box publicly accused the “Too Risky” hitmaker of unauthorised use of portions of their song and demanded the immediate removal of the track “Welcome to Africa” from all distribution and streaming platforms.

The group also requested a full account of all revenue generated from the promotion, distribution, performance, and marketing of the disputed track.

Following Medikal’s failure to meet their demands, the Alabaster Box group has issued a writ of summons, to that effect.

A writ of summons circulating on social media, dated April 15, 2025, captures that Alabaster Box is seeking GH¢10 million in general damages for the alleged copyright infringement.

In addition, the group is demanding an extra GH¢5 million for what they describe as Medikal’s intentional infringement of their intellectual property.

Parts of the summons read, “An award of general damages for the defendant’s infringing conduct in the sum of ten million Ghana cedis (GH¢10,000,000.00).

“An award of exemplary damages in the sum of five million Ghana cedis (GH¢S5,000,000.00) for the defendant’s intentional infringement of the plaintiff’s copyright, brand association with vulgarity, and for diminishing the good mileage of the copyrighted work. Costs, including legal fees.”

Alabaster Box also pointed out that despite their request for Medikal to remove the song from all streaming platforms and provide a full account of the revenue generated, he only edited the copyrighted version on YouTube.

Lovely Outfits Ladies Will Love For Sunday Service

News Hub Creator23min

Sunday service calls for elegant yet comfortable outfits that reflect both reverence and personal style. Many women prefer modest dresses in soft, flowing fabrics because they offer grace and ease of movement. A-line or fit-and-flare designs are popular choices since they flatter various body types while maintaining a polished look. Light pastel shades like blush pink, lavender, or mint green create a serene and uplifting vibe, making them ideal for worship settings. Accessories should be kept minimal to avoid distraction, so delicate jewelry such as pearl studs or a simple pendant necklace adds just the right touch of sophistication. Comfortable low-heeled shoes or stylish flats ensure ease while standing or walking, preventing discomfort during long services. Structured handbags or small clutches in neutral tones complement the outfit without overwhelming it.

Layering with a lightweight cardigan or tailored blazer provides warmth in cooler church settings while maintaining a put-together appearance. Floral prints or subtle patterns can add visual interest without being too bold, keeping the focus on modesty and elegance. Many women also opt for wide-brimmed hats or tasteful headpieces, which enhance the ensemble while honoring traditional church attire.

Breathable fabrics like cotton or chiffon ensure comfort throughout the service, especially in warmer weather. Ultimately, the goal is to choose outfits that inspire confidence and reverence, allowing women to feel their best while engaging in worship. By balancing style with modesty, these lovely looks ensure a seamless and uplifting Sunday service experience.

Minority too eager to stay relevant – Vanderpuye

0

The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has taken a swipe at the Minority in Parliament, accusing them of rushing to make themselves relevant over the ongoing petition against the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Gertrude Torkornoo.

His comments come in the wake of the Minority’s appeal to religious and traditional leaders to intervene and urge President John Dramani Mahama to halt the constitutional process concerning the Chief Justice.

The caucus maintained that the petition seeking her removal is baseless and does not meet the constitutional requirements.

Notwithstanding, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye dismissed the Minority’s calls, describing their reaction as predictable and driven by a desperate attempt to remain significant in the public space.

“I think that they are too much in haste to be relevant, because of their micro nature. They are too much in haste to make themselves heard.”

He specified that the constitutional process must be allowed to run its full course without interference. According to him, the nation’s laws provide clear guidelines for handling such matters, and political posturing must not disrupt due process.

“I will tell them to allow the constitutional process to engage itself fully, and when it has run its full toll, then we shall all know whether Chief Justice Torkornor has a case or not.”

While expressing some personal reservations, Vanderpuye stated that although he respects the Chief Justice, reports from within the judiciary suggest her image may not be as flawless as often portrayed.

“I have a lot of respect for the Chief Justice. Sometimes you see her and she portrays an angelic face, other times something else. The things some of us hear and some of the people like me have picked up from some of the people who are close to the judicial system will tell you that all that glitters is not gold.

“She is not as saintly as some of us have perceived her to be. I will not sit here and prejudge her, but I will give her the benefit of the doubt and sit here and believe that the things that I have heard about her and how she behaves were not true.”

Speaking on Channel One TV’s  Breakfast Daily on Thursday, April 17, Vanderpuye further indicated that the Minority’s moves were expected and had already been factored into the government’s anticipation of the political terrain.

“What I want them to understand is that as soon as they start thinking, we have already thought about the steps they will take. Because they are very predictable and so they allow you to determine what action they will take in every instant.”

GHS D-G calls for collaboration, workers participation

0

The Acting Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, has called for an integration of all divisions of the Service to enhance its operations and progress.

According to him, the lack of integration of the divisions of the GHS to enable them to work in close collaboration over the past years had slowed its progress.

He said that the integration of the various divisions of the GHS to enhance its operations and progress could be achieved through collective collaboration and the inclusion of staff participation.

Prof. Akoriyea made the call at the annual performance review of the GHS held at the Health Promotion Division in Accra yesterday.

The purpose of the performance review was to assess the performance of the GHS last year to identify the progress that was made, the challenges faced, and also profess solutions to the challenges.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Akoriyea said the situation where some of the divisions were under-resourced as compared to others was not encouraging.

He, therefore, urged the Director of the Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation division to ensure that resources were pulled for the benefit of all the workers of the various divisions and ensure their integration.

Furthermore, Prof. Akoriyea charged the directors of the various divisions to promote inclusive participation of workers and also ensure that they deliver services effectively.

“My attention has been drawn to the fact that some of you the directors, deputy directors and programme managers of the various divisions often ignore the GHS staff who have been employed to work with you and rather give the job to volunteers,” he stated.

“I am also well informed that there are drivers who have never gone on a trek while they are other drivers who are always on trek. That is not a good thing, and we need to change. We need to do things where every GHS worker participates actively to enhance its operations and progress,” Prof. Akoriyea added.

The Ag Director General also promised to ensure the equal allocation of resources to the various divisions, especially the research and development division in order to enhance their research work.

Moreover, he said that the research centres across the country, the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Navrongo University would now be affiliated to the GHS to enable staff who conduct research to become associate professors and not consultants.

Prof. Akoriyea promised to oversee the rebounding of the GHS and prioritise the welfare of staff of the Service.

There were presentations by the directors of the various divisions of the GHS during the review to assess their performance last year.

Some of the divisions that were present at the performance review were the Health Promotion Division, the Human Resource Division, the Institutional Care Division, Family Health Division, Research and Development Division, Public Health Division, Policy, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Division and the Office of the Director General of the GHS.

ORC gives companies until June 30 to file annual returns or risk deletion

0

The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has issued a strong reminder to all registered businesses in Ghana to file their annual returns or renew their business names by June 30, 2025—or risk being delisted from the official register.

According to the Acting Registrar of Companies, Maame Samma Peprah, this statutory reminder is in line with Section 126(1) of the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) and the Business Name Act, 1962 (Act 151). This marks the first major directive from Samma Peprah since assuming office.

The ORC warns that companies that fail to comply, particularly those that do not attach financial statements, will be deemed non-compliant and could face a penalty of GHS 1,000.

In addition, business names that are not renewed will be considered lapsed, allowing the Registrar to reassign them to other individuals or entities.

The Registrar maintains that the goal is to promote transparency and strengthen regulatory compliance within Ghana’s business environment.

Companies are required to file their annual returns within 18 months of incorporation and then once every year thereafter. These returns must include up-to-date information such as company directors, shareholders, and financial statements. This helps determine the financial and operational status of a business.

Failure to comply with these legal requirements will come with serious consequences. Companies that delay filing will be fined 25 penalty units for each day they default. Persistent non-compliance may also lead to deregistration, effectively making it illegal for such companies to operate.

Additionally, businesses that fail to meet these obligations may face legal and financial challenges, including difficulties in accessing credit or entering into formal contracts.

The ORC is urging all business owners—especially private and public limited companies, companies limited by guarantee, external companies, and unlimited liability companies to treat the deadline seriously and comply without delay.

Stakeholders call for stronger monitoring framework to boost industrial growth

0

In the wake of dwindling donor support, the Board Chairman of the newly launched Development Insights Hub, Prof. Peter Quartey, is urging the government to strengthen monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems to drive industrial development.

Prof. Quartey, who also serves as Director of the Institute for Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), believes mentoring Ghana’s youthful population is key to achieving this goal.

Speaking at the Hub’s inaugural ceremony, he noted that building the skills and competence of young people will lay the foundation for sustainable economic growth and long-term development.

“Every policy or every strategy has to be monitored and evaluated. If you look at a lot of government programmes, we do not monitor enough. The idea of this is to get young people to get into the evaluation base because they are the future generation .We are equipping them for evaluation by equipping them the needed requirement,” he said.

“It is also good for the nation because as a country we need to be evaluating programmes so that we see where there are gaps so we quickly fill the gaps. We do not have to wait till the end and realize it has failed,” he added.

For his part, the Head of Civil Service, Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darko, emphasized the Service’s renewed commitment to strong policy direction, noting that it remains central to driving continuous national growth and development.

“The civil service has an overarching mandate which is to assist the government in the formulation and implementation of public policies and mandate. What we have observed is that we need to consistently design the policies and programmes with M&E in mind. This should not be seen as an afterthought,” he reiterated.

Development Insights Hub is a not-for-profit organization established in 2022 with a broad –based vision, inclusive, equitable and sustainable development of Africa with active participation of women, youth, minorities and the vulnerable.

Love Ogah and her father, Bishop David Oyedepo Love Ogah and her father, Bishop David Oyedepo

Love Ogah, daughter of Bishop David Olaniyi Oyedepo, has shared a harrowing account of how her father miraculously escaped an assassination attempt, an experience she described as unforgettable.

Her revelation, which made headlines on April 16, 2025, was shared during a sermon in which she recounted the terrifying events from her childhood.

According to Love, a group of armed men broke into their home one night with a clear mission: to assassinate her father.

She explained that the men demanded to know Bishop Oyedepo’s whereabouts, yet, strangely, he was right there in the house, but they couldn’t see him.

“They searched the house for hours. We had to hide behind the door. They even shot at it, and the bullet struck my upper gum.”

Love recalled the fear and confusion in that moment, especially as her aunt broke down in tears, wondering what would have happened if the attackers had discovered the Living Faith Church founder.

She added that after the assailants eventually left, her father came out of his room and calmly said he had been watching them the entire time, but they never saw him.

Concluding her testimony, Love urged the congregation to develop a personal relationship with God, emphasising the power of divine protection.

Her story has since gone viral on social media, sparking intense discussions and debates among netizens about the possibility of supernatural intervention.

Minister urges personal hygiene as a cultural practice

Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim

The Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has emphasized that the reintroduction of the National Sanitation Day initiative is a collective responsibility, urging all citizens to prioritize cleanliness as a national duty.

According to the minister, the Sanitation Day and the newly introduced National Sanitation League should serve as reminders that personal hygiene must become an integral part of Ghanaian social culture.

He stressed that individuals should adopt hygiene as a lifestyle rather than an occasional practice.

Speaking on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, during a courtesy call on Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams—Chairman of the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches (NACCC) and General Overseer of Action Chapel International—Ibrahim called for greater collaboration in combating plastic waste and sachet litter.

He highlighted the importance of waste segregation at the household level to facilitate recycling efforts for rubber and plastic materials.

The minister further announced that the official launch date for the National Sanitation Day would soon be made public to ensure mass participation.

He noted that Christian leaders he had engaged with during his tour expressed overwhelming support for the initiative, and discussions are ongoing with the President to determine the appropriate date for the event.

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams endorsed the initiative, advocating for National Sanitation Day to be considered a call to duty for all citizens.

He pledged his support as NACCC Chairman, stating, “This is a laudable idea, and we pledge our support. We have to be intentional, and it should be a national effort to achieve this goal. It is a difficult task, but through collaboration, we can succeed.”

During Ibrahim’s visit to the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Apostle Eric Nyamekye also commended the initiative, emphasizing its importance in addressing environmental challenges.

“Sanitation is affecting all our rivers, and so it is commendable that the President has prioritized a National Sanitation Day. If we bring all stakeholders on board, I am confident we will succeed,” he said.

The minister also engaged the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, to solicit his support for the sanitation campaign.

Why the word ‘remontada’ trended after Real Madrid crashed out of the UCL

Mbappe (left), Vinicius (right top) and Bellingham (right down) Mbappe (left), Vinicius (right top) and Bellingham (right down)

The Spanish word ‘remontada’, meaning a comeback or turning things around under difficult circumstances, dominated social media conversations after Arsenal eliminated Real Madrid from the Champions League with a 5-1 aggregate score.

Prior to the first leg, where Arsenal led 3-0, Real Madrid players and supporters boasted that they were confident of overturning the deficit to advance to the next stage, citing their history in the competition.

However, this ambition was derailed after Madrid lost the second leg to Arsenal 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu on April 16, 2025, failing to impress as expected.

Bukayo Saka and Martinelli’s goals were enough to secure the Gunners’ victory in Spain, with Vinicius Junior scoring a consolation goal.

Football fans took to social media, particularly X (formerly Twitter), to ridicule Real Madrid for their boasts and subsequent failure.

Some criticised the team for arrogance, undermining Arsenal’s performance and chances of surviving at the Bernabéu to secure qualification.

Others expressed disappointment and mocked key Madrid players like Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, and Kylian Mbappé for their poor performance despite championing the ‘remontada’ agenda.

Following Madrid’s elimination from the Champions League, they will now focus on the Spanish La Liga and the Copa del Rey, where they will face Barcelona in the final on April 26, 2025.

Modest Tips on How to Wear Hijab with Maxi Dress

0

The combination of a hijab with a maxi dress is a timeless, elegant, and modest fashion choice that blends comfort with style. Whether you’re preparing for a casual outing or a formal event, this combination allows you to express your fashion sense while maintaining modesty. Here are some modest tips on how to wear a hijab with a maxi dress, ensuring that you feel both fashionable and comfortable.

1. Choose a Maxi Dress with a Flattering Fit:

The beauty of a maxi dress lies in its versatility. When pairing it with a hijab, opt for a dress that flatters your body shape while maintaining modesty. A loose-fitting maxi dress with an A-line or empire waist can enhance your figure without being too tight. Avoid overly flowy or excessive fabric that could hide your shape and make you feel lost in the outfit. Look for dresses that have a balance of fit and flow, making it easy to move while still appearing put-together.

2. Coordinate Your Hijab with the Dress:

Color coordination is key to achieving a cohesive look. If you’re wearing a bold, patterned maxi dress, go for a solid-colored hijab that complements one of the shades in the dress. On the other hand, if your maxi dress is solid-colored, you can experiment with patterned or textured hijabs to add interest. For example, a pastel-colored dress can pair beautifully with a neutral beige or white hijab, while a black dress offers endless options for both neutral and vibrant hijabs.

3. Layering for a Modest Look:

For added modesty, consider layering your maxi dress with a long-sleeved shirt or cardigan, especially if the dress has a lower neckline or sleeveless design. This will not only make you feel more comfortable but also provide extra coverage. Choose a lightweight, breathable material for layering, ensuring that it doesn’t add bulk to your outfit. A cropped jacket or a kimono-style cardigan over a maxi dress can create an effortlessly stylish and modest ensemble.

4. Opt for a Hijab Style That Matches the Occasion:

The style of hijab you wear can dramatically alter the overall look. For a formal occasion, such as a wedding or dinner, consider wrapping your hijab neatly with a little volume or a soft drape around the face, adding elegance to your look. For casual wear, a simple, everyday hijab style like a loose wrap or the classic shayla style works well. Experiment with different styles to see what complements your face shape and dress style best.

5. Pay Attention to Fabrics and Textures:

When pairing a hijab with a maxi dress, fabric plays an important role in the overall aesthetic. Opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton, chiffon, or jersey for a comfortable and modest look. If you’re attending a formal event, consider adding a hijab made of silk or satin, which adds a luxurious touch. Be mindful of the fabric of the maxi dress too, as combining a cotton hijab with a flowing silk dress might not create the most balanced appearance. A matching fabric texture creates a more harmonious and polished look.

In conclusion, wearing a hijab with a maxi dress can be a stylish and modest fashion choice that is suitable for various occasions. By focusing on fit, coordination, layering, and fabric choice, you can create a chic and elegant look that reflects your modest style while keeping you comfortable. With these simple tips, you can confidently embrace modest fashion without compromising on style.

Goldfields failed to invest in exploration – Lands Minister justifies non-renewal decision

0

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, has defended the government’s decision not to renew the mining lease of Goldfields Ghana’s operations at the Damang Mines.

The lease, which ends on April 18th, 2025, lasted for 30 years.

However, the government announced this week that it plans not to renew the mining lease of Goldfields Ghana, which operates the Damang Mines.

Addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, April 16, Armah Buah said that Goldfields Ghana failed to meet expectations.

“Goldfield has failed to allocate any budget for exploration at Damang for the past two years. In essence, the company was not prepared, as required by law, to expend resources to conduct exploration activities to discover new ore bodies or convert the mineral resources into mineral reserves to support a mining programme or operation.

“This lack of investment raises serious concerns about the company’s commitment to sustainable mining practice and the long-term viability of this particular mine,” he stated.

Similarly, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Isaac Tandoh, on April 15, revealed that Gold Fields Limited failed to comply with explicit instructions to engage the Commission regarding the extension.

And for that matter, Ghana is ready to take over and operate the Damang Mine.

Tandoh further revealed that all discussions held so far point to a state-led operation of the Damang Mine after Gold Fields’ exit.

“In all the meetings I have been in and all the discussions I have had, we are looking at the state running the mine. No individual will be made to do that,” he added.

Shining the light on haemophilia and bleeding disorders in women and girls

0

Each year, on April 17, the world unites to raise awareness about haemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. The theme for World Haemophilia Day 2025, “Women and Girls Bleed Too,” seeks to challenge long-held assumptions that bleeding disorders affect only males. While haemophilia is more frequently diagnosed in males, many females also live with symptoms of undiagnosed or misdiagnosed bleeding disorders—left without treatment or support.

What is a Bleeding Disorder?

Bleeding disorders are medical conditions where the blood does not clot as it should. This happens because certain essential components needed for clotting are missing or not working properly. As a result, individuals may experience prolonged bleeding, either spontaneously or after injury, surgery, or childbirth. Bleeding disorders may be inherited (passed down from one or both parents through genes) or acquired (developing later in life due to other medical conditions, medications, or unknown causes).

Types of bleeding disorders include:

  • Haemophilia A and B – Inherited conditions (mostly affecting males) where clotting factors VIII or IX are deficient. Women and girls can also have symptoms, even if they carry the gene or have low factor levels.
  • Von Willebrand Disease (VWD) – The most common inherited bleeding disorder, affecting both men and women, often leading to easy bruising, nosebleeds, and heavy periods.
  • Other rare disorders – Include platelet function disorders and deficiencies of other clotting factors.

Common signs and symptoms:

  • Frequent nosebleeds or bleeding gums
  • Heavy or prolonged menstruation
  • Unexplained bruises
  • Blood in urine or stools
  • Painful, swollen joints or muscles from internal bleeding
  • Excessive bleeding after surgery, dental work, or childbirth

Management:
While these bleeding disorders cannot be cured, they can be effectively managed. Treatment may include clotting factor replacement therapy, antifibrinolytic medications, hormone treatments for menstrual symptoms, and supportive care from specialized health professionals. Early diagnosis is key to improving quality of life.

The Global and Ghanaian Landscape

According to the World Federation of Haemophilia’s 2023 Annual Global Survey, there are 390,630 identified individuals worldwide living with bleeding disorders. Of these:

  • 56% have haemophilia
  • 26% live with von Willebrand Disease (vWD)
  • 18% are diagnosed with other bleeding disorders

Of this global population, 65% are male and 34% are female, revealing a significant representation of females, many of whom experience symptoms that go unnoticed or are wrongly attributed to other causes.

In Africa, the expected number of people living with haemophilia is 93,985, but only 8% have been formally identified. In Ghana, the estimated prevalence of haemophilia is 7,131, yet the number of diagnosed cases is 525 (critically low)—an indication of serious gaps in diagnosis and access.

These statistics reveal a stark reality: thousands of people in Ghana may be living with bleeding disorders without knowing it—and many of them are women and girls.

A Silent Burden on Women and Girls

Females can also experience bleeding symptoms as carriers of the haemophilia gene or through other inherited disorders like von Willebrand Disease.

Women and girls may suffer from:

  • Heavy, prolonged menstrual bleeding
  • Excessive bleeding during childbirth or surgeries
  • Unexplained bruising

Too often, women and girls are told that heavy periods are just something they have to live with, but in many cases, this is a sign of an underlying bleeding disorder. We must listen to them and take their symptoms seriously.

A Call to Action

This year’s theme is a powerful reminder that the narrative must change:

  • Women and girls bleed too.
  • Women and girls deserve equitable access to diagnosis and treatment.
  • Their voices must be heard.

We must launch public education campaigns addressing inequity in care while creating a safe, stigma-free space for women and girls to share their experiences.

In Ghana, key institutions such as Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital—with immense support from the World Federation of Haemophilia and the Ghana Haemophilia Society—are making important strides to improve haemophilia care.

Despite these efforts, critical gaps remain, particularly in access to diagnostics, treatment, and specialized care. Addressing these challenges requires a collective call. Government bodies, public health agencies, civil society organizations, and individuals should come together to ensure that every person living with a bleeding disorder receives equitable and timely care—regardless of gender, geography, or financial means.

“Women and Girls Bleed Too” is not just a theme—it’s truth.

Let us ensure that no woman or girl living with a bleeding disorder in Ghana is left behind. When we listen to them and provide the care they deserve, we improve outcomes not just for individuals but for families, communities, and our entire country.

Parliamentary committee backs tax reliefs for jobs, private sector

0

The Parliamentary Committee on Trade, Industry and Tourism has announced plans to champion greater support for the private sector, including the introduction of tax reliefs aimed at enabling businesses to expand their operations and create more job opportunities for the youth.

During a working visit to Zonda Tec Ghana Limited, Chairman of the Committee, Alexander Roosevelt, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling unemployment in the country.

He emphasised that empowering private enterprises is a key strategy to drive job creation and stimulate sustainable economic growth.

“We always support industries that abide by our laws. We also support industries that contribute meaningfully to our GDP, and we respect industries that make sure that a lot of our people are engaged.

“Whatever we do to support you will be in the form of tax reliefs and others, we will be ready to champion the cause on the floor of parliament.

Because we want to encourage companies that are doing well to expand so that they can employ a lot of our people,” he stated.

The Managing Director of Zonda Tec Ghana Limited, Yang Yang, expressed concern over the recent scrapping of tax exemptions, stating that the move is hindering the company’s operations as a vehicle assembly firm.

She called on the government to reconsider such policies to allow local manufacturers to thrive and contribute more meaningfully to Ghana’s industrialisation agenda.

“So, how do we assemble the vehicle without enjoying any policy. Previously, when our goods got to the harbour, we didn’t need to pay any duty on the materials, but now we are paying everything. So, it has greatly hindered our work, and we plead with parliament to pass the bill for us.

52% of Ghanaians support removal of Chief Justice

0

A new poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics shows that a majority of Ghanaians support the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.

According to the poll, 52% of voters support the removal of the Chief Justice, while only 20% oppose it. Additionally, 18% were neutral, and 11% had no opinion.

The poll also reveals that the majority of voters in all regions—except Ahafo and Upper East—support the Chief Justice’s removal. In the Greater Accra region, 58% support her removal, while 16% oppose it. In the Ashanti region, 37% support her removal compared to 32% who oppose it, and in the Central region, 51% support her removal while 16% are opposed.

Voters across all educational levels also support the Chief Justice’s removal. Among those with Junior High School (JHS) education, 57% support her removal compared to 17% who oppose it. For those with Senior High School (SHS) education, 50% support and 21% oppose. Among those with tertiary education, 54% support her removal, while 18% oppose it. Among voters with no formal education, 37% support her removal compared to 30% who oppose it.

The poll was conducted from April 7 to April 16 with a sample of 2,545 voters. It has a confidence level of 99% and a margin of error of ±1.51%.

Meanwhile, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has advised Supreme Court justices to stand by one another in the face of what he described as attempts by the Mahama government to remove Chief Justice Torkornoo.

Speaking at a press conference following a National Executive Committee meeting of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Accra on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Afenyo-Markin said any effort to divide the judiciary should be firmly resisted.

“We are aware of attempts by persons in government to push for the removal of the Chief Justice from office. The judiciary should not be seen as part of the party-political system in our country. All we need is an impartial judiciary to dispense justice. What is happening is unacceptable, and it is clear that the NDC wants to infiltrate the judiciary and make it partisan. But my advice to the judiciary is to stand together. Let no one create the impression that by dislodging one of you, others will be elevated. The next day, you will be the next.”

He urged Justice Torkornoo’s colleagues on the apex court to show solidarity with her and described the petitions for her removal—on which President John Mahama has reportedly initiated action—as baseless.

“The judiciary must stand together as one body and issue a strong statement condemning this action. The Ghana Bar Association must stand for the judiciary. Civil Society Organisations must stand for the judiciary. All these flimsy, pedestrian excuses—when you look at what is out there—you wonder whether these are legitimate grounds for the removal of a Chief Justice.”

Afenyo-Markin also called on President Mahama to demonstrate statesmanship throughout his final term in office.

Vendease shut down Ghanaian operations in 2024 despite high demand

0

Vendease ended its operations in Ghana in October 2024, sources familiar with the situation have confirmed. The startup expanded into the Ghanaian market in 2023 after securing $30 million in Series A funding.

In Ghana, Vendease wanted to replicate its successful food supply marketplace model from Nigeria, where it offered an online platform for food businesses to source and receive supplies.

While the marketplace gained traction, Vendease was concurrently building a complementary software suite, featuring payment infrastructure and point-of-sale tools, aimed at increasing revenue. However, these solutions failed to take off like the marketplace.

Sources told Techpoint Africa that while Vendease attracted significant interest for its food supply business, it struggled to meet demand due to limited funding for its Ghanaian operations.

Weekly demand often exceeded $1 million, but the company could fulfill only a quarter of those orders. Efforts to secure additional funding from local financial institutions were unsuccessful.

Co-founder and CEO Tunde Kara confirmed this in a conversation with Techpoint Africa, highlighting that the startup recouped its investments in Ghana within six months, but opted to leave Ghana after it could not continue funding the growth.

“We moved into Ghana because there was a lot of potential, especially when we raised our Series A. We recouped the money we invested in Ghana in the first six months of launch. We faced a lot of roadblocks and bottlenecks, but it wasn’t because our products were not in demand,” he noted.

Like many African eCommerce ventures, Vendease dealt with low margins. Initially, it fulfilled every order regardless of profitability, but later shifted to prioritising deliveries with guaranteed returns. Its buy-now-pay-later service, which issued over $72 million in loans, also suffered, with many customers defaulting on repayments, and legal action was often required to recover payments.

Mohamed Chaudry’s appointment as CFO in 2024 played a key role in stabilising the company. Following his arrival, Vendease revised its payment terms to handle only fully paid orders or those with a one-week payment commitment. The change reportedly pushed repayment rates above 95%.

Chaudry also worked to reduce the company’s wage bill, which had exceeded ₦1 billion the year before his appointment. Last year, it reduced its workforce by 20%, citing redundancies. Sources claimed many senior hires were overpaid, with leadership boasting about offering salaries above the industry average.

Last month, we reported that the company had restructured its compensation package, reducing salaries pending an improvement in fortunes. According to Kara, the decision to cut staff had been delayed for nearly a year as the startup worked to raise funding.

When that did not work, it chose to lay off some employees while proposing a revised salary structure for those that were left. This decision, he says, resulted in some resignations, but he noted that many employees opted to remain. For those employees who chose to remain, the startup hopes to quickly return to sustainability and reward their loyalty.

To achieve that, the startup is betting on a software play even as it reduces its eCommerce footprints.

“Is this going to be successful? I guess we’re in the business of trying things out and seeing if they work,” Kara said, noting that the switch has been tough without venture funding.

Having achieved profitability prior to its Series A funding in 2022, Kara says the goal is to return to a point where Vendease only spends what it earns.

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections, has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, three months into office.

According to Dr Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, the current administration has performed so poorly that he refrains from assigning it any rating.

He attributes the country’s challenges to issues such as electricity shortages, illegal mining (commonly referred to as galamsey), and money laundering, among others.

Speaking in an interview shared on social media, NAPO lamented the lack of progress in the country, stating, “It has been so bad that I don’t want to rate him, it is nil.

“We had constant electricity; what is happening now? Also, galamsey issues. We had improved as a country on illicit drugs, but now we have arrested more cocaine within these three months than in eight years of administration.”

President John Dramani Mahama assumed office on January 7, 2025. While his government initially received praise for starting on a positive note, it has since faced accusations of drug smuggling and money laundering, among other concerns.

NAPO emphasized his desire to see the country progress but expressed disappointment in the current trajectory.

Prosper Ogum names key factor that lead to big defeat against Accra Lions

0

Asante Kotoko head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, has admitted that his side may have suffered from fatigue following their disappointing 3-0 defeat to Accra Lions in their Ghana Premier League encounter.

The Porcupine Warriors were completely outplayed on the day as Accra Lions dominated proceedings to hand Kotoko one of their heaviest defeats of the season.

Speaking after the match, Ogum hinted that fatigue may have played a role but emphasized that the team had been well-prepared in the lead-up to the clash.

“It may be that they are fatigued somehow, but then we are managing them well physiologically, psychologically—we are managing them very well,” Ogum said.

He added that the team approached the game with confidence and energy but lost focus when it mattered most.

“It is all about focus in games like this. So, it may be [fatigue], but before the game, we looked very energetic, very confident, knowing very well we were going to play very well and then get the maximum points. But then, the dynamics changed.”

The defeat dealt a blow to Kotoko’s title ambitions as they now face increased pressure to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.

Kotoko, who are on 47 points, have dropped to third after the defeat trailing Bibiani Gold Stars by three points.

Most Beautiful Women’s Outfits to Wear This Easter

0

Easter is a time of renewal, celebration, and fresh beginnings, making it the perfect occasion to refresh your wardrobe with beautiful, season-appropriate outfits. Whether you’re attending a sunrise service, hosting brunch with family, or heading out for a spring garden party, your Easter ensemble should be equal parts stylish, feminine, and festive.

Florals are a timeless spring staple, and Easter is the perfect opportunity to showcase them. A flowy floral midi dress with soft pastel tones like blush, lavender, or mint can create a graceful, romantic look. Choose light fabrics like chiffon or cotton for extra comfort and breathability.

For a chic and modern take on Easter fashion, pastel pantsuits are on-trend. Think baby blue, soft lilac, or peachy pink tailored blazers paired with wide-leg trousers. Add a silk camisole underneath and a pair of nude heels to keep it elegant and contemporary.

If you’re going for an effortlessly bohemian vibe, a tiered maxi dress in a light, breezy fabric is a great choice. Look for eyelet or lace details for an extra feminine touch. Pair with espadrilles or strappy sandals and a woven clutch to complete the look.

Pair a pleated midi skirt with a puff-sleeve blouse or a ruffled top for a polished and sweet ensemble. This combo is easy to dress up or down depending on the occasion and works well with delicate jewelry and low heels.

Easter fashion should reflect the joy and vibrancy of the season. With these beautiful outfit ideas, you can step into spring feeling confident, graceful, and stylish.

Removing the CJ will only introduce a new one with similar ‘political baggage’, repeating the same cycle

0

The Director of Policy Engagement and Partnerships at the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Dr Kojo Pumpuni Asante has said that uncovering a Chief Justice’s political motives is difficult without undercover tactics like those of investigative journalist Anas Aremyaw Anas.

He noted that replacing an alleged politically biased Chief Justice will not solve the perception of bias either, given the antecedents noted above.

Petition for removal of CJ setback to Ghana’s democracy

0

The Minority in Parliament has described the petition for the removal of the Chief Justice (CJ), Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, as a serious setback to Ghana’s democratic journey.

At a press conference in Parliament yesterday, the Legal Counsel for the Minority Caucus, John Darko, said the attempt to remove the CJ is part of a wider scheme to silence the judiciary and exert political control over the legal system.

He warned that the move threatens to repeat dark episodes in Ghana’s history where the judiciary was attacked and manipulated for political gains. Referring to past incidents, including the murder of three judges in 1982 under the PNDC regime, Mr Darko said what the country is witnessing today is an attempt to revive such dangerous precedents.

“The NDC, which is an offshoot of the PNDC, seems to believe that Ghanaians have voted for them to control society, including the judiciary,” he said.

He added that the petition is based on flimsy grounds, including claims that the CJ advised the President on judicial appointments, ruled on an ex-parte motion involving the Speaker of Parliament, and allegedly misappropriated GH¢75,000, allegations he dismissed as baseless.

Mr Darko cited Article 146 of the Constitution, which stipulates that a Supreme Court Judge can only be removed on grounds of stated misbehaviour, incompetence, or infirmity.

“How can any serious country entertain such loose petitions aimed at destroying the last bastion of our democracy?” he questioned.

He further disclosed that there are ongoing efforts to invoke Article 146(10)(a) to suspend the CJ and appoint known sympathisers of the ruling government as acting Chief Justices.

“To the judge or judges who may entertain the idea that Justice Torkornoo must be destroyed before you can rise, remember that you can rise together. But if you destroy someone to rise, posterity will not be kind to you,” he cautioned.

He called on Ghana’s development partners, foreign missions, traditional and religious leaders to intervene immediately and help safeguard the independence of the judiciary.

“To our revered traditional and religious leaders, the time to call the President to advise him is now. We should not wait until it is too late,” Mr Darko appealed.

He concluded by calling on the people of Ghana to resist any attempt to weaken the judiciary, saying justice emanates from the people and any attack on the courts is ultimately an attack on citizens.

Top 5 Lawyers in Ghana Who Qualifies To Be the Next Chief Justice

0

The position of Chief Justice, the head of Ghana’s judiciary and a key figure in the nation’s democratic structure, may soon see a vacancy. President John Dramani Mahama has recently referred three petitions to the Council of State seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. The allegations involve abuse of power and misconduct, and while no final decision has been made, the constitutional process has already begun.

As Ghanaians await the outcome, legal and political circles are buzzing with speculation about who could step into this powerful role if the Chief Justice is removed. Here are five respected legal minds who are widely considered qualified for the role:

1. Justice Barbara Frances Ackah-Yensu

Justice Ackah-Yensu currently serves on the Supreme Court, having been appointed in 2022. With over two decades of experience on the bench, including time at the Court of Appeal and High Court, she is respected for her independence, judicial temperament, and academic rigor. Her calm and consistent approach to justice makes her a strong contender.

2. Justice Yaw Darko Asare

Appointed to the Supreme Court in 2024, Justice Darko Asare is known for his expertise in maritime law, legal drafting, and judicial reforms. He previously served in the Court of Appeal and has been instrumental in modernizing aspects of Ghana’s legal processes. His technocratic profile and depth of knowledge are assets for leading the judiciary into a new era.

3. Justice George Kingsley Koomson

With a solid record from the High Court to the Supreme Court, Justice Koomson is praised for his decisiveness and integrity. He was elevated to the Supreme Court in 2023 and has since made his mark through clear, well-reasoned judgments. His experience across the judicial hierarchy positions him well for the top job.

4. Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe

Currently serving at the High Court, Justice Asare Botwe has gained national attention for presiding over high-profile corruption and criminal trials. She was nominated for the Supreme Court in 2024 and is considered one of the most promising rising stars in the judiciary. Her boldness, work ethic, and legal insight make her a strong candidate despite being relatively younger than others on this list.

5. Justice Edward Amoako Asante

A former President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Justice Amoako Asante brings international credibility and a wealth of experience in human rights and regional law. In 2024, he was recommended for appointment to the Supreme Court. His broad legal background and diplomatic finesse would bring a global perspective to Ghana’s judiciary leadership.

A Judiciary at a Crossroads

Should the petitions against Chief Justice Torkornoo lead to her removal, Ghana’s judiciary will face a pivotal transition. The next Chief Justice will not only be tasked with upholding judicial independence but also with rebuilding public confidence in the rule of law. Each of these five legal professionals brings unique strengths to the table—and any one of them could help shape the future of justice in Ghana.
