This is not the time for excuses or silence – Mahama renews call for reparations

0

President John Mahama has renewed Africa’s call for reparative justice, insisting the continent has reached a point where “forgetting the past is no longer an option.”

Speaking at the opening of the Diaspora Summit 2025 on December 19, the President said Africa stands at “a very pivotal place” in its historical journey and cannot afford to move backwards or act as if the past never happened.

He cautioned against what he described as deliberate efforts to push Africa into “some sort of amnesia” about “the blood that was spilled, the lives that were lost and the years that were sacrificed” in the struggle for freedom.

President Mahama argued that such calls for forgetting are impossible to accept at a time when people of African descent are described as “garbage and filth,” African nations are labelled “shitholes,” and individuals who look like Africans are stripped of citizenship they have lawfully earned.

According to him, these realities leave Africa with no choice but to confront racism and discrimination head-on.

“This is not a time for excuses or silence,” he said, stressing that the moment demands clarity about Africa’s losses and its future aspirations.

The President revealed that Ghana has already taken steps at the global level, announcing that at the United Nations General Assembly this year, he served notice that Ghana will move a motion next year to recognise the transatlantic slave trade as “the greatest crime against humanity.”

He said he expects the motion to receive full backing from African states and the global African diaspora.

President Mahama noted that Africa has endured slavery, colonialism, genocide and apartheid, insisting that these historical crimes must be formally acknowledged.

He said the continent is demanding the establishment of legal, institutional and international frameworks to advance reparative justice, explaining that reparations must go beyond symbolism.

“They must include tangible measures such as debt cancellation, monetary compensation, return of stolen artefacts, institutional reform and transformative economic redress in the global economic system,” he stated.

Beyond material losses, President Mahama highlighted the lasting emotional and psychological damage inflicted on Africans. He referenced studies on epigenetics, noting that trauma can be passed down across generations, and questioned the long-term impact of centuries of injustice on the health and wellbeing of Africans and their children.

Turning to the future, he urged Africans to be deliberate about unity, saying they must be “more intentional about unity than our oppressors were about division.”

He ended on an optimistic note, reminding the audience that “the future is African,” and expressed confidence that with a united Africa and diaspora, “there is nothing we cannot achieve.”

2025 AFCON: They were better than us – Kwesi Appiah after defeat to Algeria

0

Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has admitted that his team was outclassed in their defeat to Algeria at the Stade Prince Moulay El Hassan on Wednesday.

The Falcons of Jediane faced a baptism of fire in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener, losing 3-0 to the 2019 champions.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Kwesi Appiah was realistic about the gap between the two sides but refused to lose faith in his squad’s potential.

“We were up against a stronger side. This Algerian team has serious quality in every aspect,” Appiah admitted.

“We will do everything to bounce back in the next game.”

Appiah, who has been credited with reviving Sudan’s footballing fortunes amidst the country’s ongoing domestic challenges, emphasized that the tournament is a marathon, not a sprint.

Riyad Mahrez scored a brace with Ibrahim Maza adding another to see off 10-man Sudan.

The defeat leaves Sudan at the bottom of Group E, while Algeria moves to the top ahead of Burkina Faso on goal difference.

‘Stop touting the unprecedented achievements of Goldbod’ – Cadman Mills to Sammy Gyamfi

Cadman Mills (L) has criticised Sammy Gyamfi (R) for celebrating Goldbod Cadman Mills (L) has criticised Sammy Gyamfi (R) for celebrating Goldbod

Economist and brother of the late former President John Evans Atta Mills, Cadman Mills, has criticised the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Goldbod, Sammy Gyamfi, following his celebratory claim that the institution has surpassed its 2025 small-scale gold export target.

In a post on X on December 24, 2025, Sammy Gyamfi claimed that his office had generated over $10 billion in foreign exchange for the country, describing the achievement as “unprecedented.”

GoldBod Exceeds 2025 Small-Scale Gold Export Target, Generates Over $10 Billion

“Yesterday, the Ghana Gold Board surpassed its 2025 small-scale gold export target of 100 tons, generating over $10 billion dollars in foreign exchange for the country. Unprecedented,” he posted.

In response to the claim, Cadman Mills warned that the applause masks a deeper national crisis.

He argued that what is truly unprecedented is not the revenue figure, but the scale of environmental destruction unfolding alongside it.

According to him, the constant promotion of export milestones ignores the ecological cost of small-scale mining, which is widely linked to polluted rivers, degraded farmlands, and risks to community health.

Mills acknowledged that public agitation over galamsey has quieted in recent months, partly due to what he described as the government’s “good faith (but still wanting) attempts” to address the problem. However, he cautioned against interpreting the silence as relief or approval.

“AND UNPRECEDENTED DEVASTATION OF OUR WATERBODIES AND ENVIRONMENT. The clamor over small scale mining may have died down somewhat in recognition of government’s good faith (but still wanting) attempts to deal with Galamsey.

“However, our deep anxieties remain. SO PLEASE STOP REMINDING US OF THE LURKING THREAT TO OUR VERY SURVIVAL. STOP TOUTING THE “UNPRECEDENTED ACHIEVEMENTS” OF THE GOLDBOD!! They ring very hollow,” he posted on X.

Jean Mensa, EC Boss

The Supreme Court (SC), by a unanimous decision yesterday, suspended the rerun of the Kpandai Constituency parliamentary election pending the determination of an application filed by Matthew Nyindam, challenging the decision of a High Court in Tamale which ordered the rerun.

This, according to the court, is to ensure that the court is not overreached by the rerun pending the application which it said discloses prima facie.

The then New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, on December 1, 2025, filed an application at the Supreme Court seeking to quash the judgment of the Tamale High Court, which annulled his election and ordered a rerun.

The application, filed by his lawyer, Gary Nimako Marfo, is asking the apex court to issue an order of certiorari to strike out the High Court’s November 24, 2025 decision, arguing that the trial court acted without jurisdiction.

Top among the arguments is that the election petition filed by the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, was done outside the 21 days after results of the election had been gazetted as prescribed by law.

The decision by the High Court to order a rerun of the entire election, contrary to what the petitioner asked for, drew wild criticisms, with the Minority in Parliament describing it as not only flawed but “dangerous,” warning that it poses a serious threat to the nation’s constitutional democracy and the sovereignty of voters.

He then followed it with an application for substituted service as they were struggling to serve the motion on the NDC candidate.

While the motions were pending, the Electoral Commission (EC), on December 10, 2025, issued a statement announcing a rerun of the election on December 30, noting that the rerun will be contested only by the three candidates who participated in the original 2024 Parliamentary Election for the Kpandai Constituency.

This restriction, it said, is to ensure the rerun is a direct continuation of the disputed poll, focusing on the same contenders.

Gary Nimako Marfo, while moving his motion for substituted service yesterday, urged the court to take judicial notice of the fact that the Electoral Commission has slated the rerun for December 30.

A five-member panel of the court presided over by Justice Gabriel Pwamang and assisted by Justices Omoro Tanko, Yonny Kulendi, Samuel Asiedu, and Henry Anthony Kwofie, in its decision, ordered the EC to suspend all arrangements for the rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election, in order not to overreach the court in its determination of the motion for certiorari.

Meanwhile, the court has granted an application by lawyers for Mr. Nyindam to serve the NDC candidate of the constituency, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, through substituted service.

Gary Nimako Marfo, counsel for Matthew Nyindam, told the court that all efforts to serve Mr. Wakpal with the motion for certiorari and motion to suspend the orders of the High Court have proved futile.

“Ever since the judgment was obtained, all attempts to serve him have proved futile. Bailiffs have been prevented from serving him when they went to the house,” he told the court.

He, therefore, urged the court for an order to post the processes on the walls of a facility with a digital address provided by Mr. Wakpal on court documents during the proceedings before the High Court in Tamale.

There was a little drama in the courtroom when MP for Tolon in the Northern Region, Habib Iddrisu, sent Mr. Wakpal GH¢500 through MTN mobile money to confirm that a phone number provided by Mr. Nimako Marfo indeed belonged to the NDC candidate and is active.

The gesture drew wild laughter in the fully-packed Supreme Court, as details of the transaction were shown to a court official who confirmed same.

The panel, after listening to Mr. Marfo, held that there was sufficient justification to make order for substituted service and ordered that the motions be served on Mr. Wakpal through a digital address provided to the court.

The motion papers are also to be posted on the notice board of the High Court in Tamale and that of the District Court in Kpandai.

The applicant is also to serve Mr. Wakpal via WhatsApp through the mobile phone number provided by Mr. Marfo.

The postings are to remain for seven days after which Wakpal would be deemed served.

Winner of Antoine Semenyo transfer race named by Fabrizio Romano as real reason behind Chelsea excuse emerges

0

The real reason Chelsea backed out of the race to sign Antoine Semenyo may have just emerged after Fabrizio Romano named the rival club accelerating to get their own deal done for the Bournemouth forward.

It’s been a remarkable day in the Semenyo saga after Chelsea made contact with his representatives in the morning, only to withdraw their interest in the evening. With Tottenham Hotspur already discarded in the chase, that left a battle between Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United for his signature.

The reporting of Chelsea’s U-turn over Semenyo was dressed up with claims they still have confidence in their current options and are assessing other players who could add to their attack in 2026.

But the truth might simply be that they have been beaten to the punch, since Romano and David Ornstein have provided updates on a rival’s chase.

The club in question? Manchester City.

According to Romano, City ‘have been pushing a lot in the last 12 [hours] to try advance on Antoine Semenyo deal’.

Sporting director Hugo Viana has been ‘in direct talks’ with Semenyo’s entourage, aiming to get a ‘final answer as soon as possible’.

Ornstein: Why Semenyo wants City move

Shortly after Romano’s update, Ornstein added that ‘Semenyo’s preference is to move to Manchester City in January’.

As for why, The Athletic reporter explained: ‘Semenyo’s desire to win trophies is key to his wish to join Pep Guardiola’s side.’

Semenyo can be signed for £65m in the first 10 days of January due to a release clause in his contract, but Ornstein clarifies nothing has been fully agreed yet.

Romano has concurred in a follow-up post on X that City ‘are progressing to complete’ a deal for Semenyo in the ‘next days’.

More Man City transfer news

Semenyo isn’t the only player City are eyeing for January, since sources have confirmed they are seriously considering adding to their defensive depth.

With Nathan Ake attracting interest from elsewhere in the Premier League – including from Bournemouth themselves, where he used to play – City may accelerate plans to add to their defence.

Meanwhile, as Semenyo nears a move to the Etihad, one attacker who could make way is Omar Marmoush, just a year after his arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Tottenham’s interest in Marmoush has been verified by sources, which comes in the wake of them missing out on Semenyo (and also City’s Savinho in the summer).

Stonebwoy shuts down Accra with sold-out stadium concert

Stonebwoy thrilled the audience at the 10th edition of BHIMFEST play videoStonebwoy thrilled the audience at the 10th edition of BHIMFEST

Ever since the first Bhimnation Ultimate Concert on May 1, 2015, at the Tema Sports Stadium, Stonebwoy has consistently delivered unforgettable experiences to Ghanaians.

The 10th edition of BhimFest was no exception. The Gidigidi hitmaker, alongside dozens of fellow musicians, filled the 40,000-capacity Accra Sports Stadium and treated fans to a musical spectacle like no other.

BHIMFEST2025 stood apart from the many shows scheduled for December. From its promotion and marketing to the lineup of artistes, the festival was in a league of its own.

One of the first things noticeable was the tight security and seamless organisation. Each ticket type had its designated entry path, and the abundance of courteous security personnel ensured safety and order. There was no congestion or delay.

Another standout improvement was punctuality. The event began at exactly 8 p.m., with rising artistes showcasing their talent. By midnight, the stadium was packed to capacity, and the MCs and DJs had whipped the crowd into a frenzy.

Then came the man of the moment, 1Gad, the Torcher himself, emerging in celebratory silver to lead fans through some of his greatest hits.

The energy didn’t stop there. DopeNation, D Cryme, Praye, LalixLola, and many others electrified the audience with their performances. Stonebwoy later returned in all black, flanked by Incredible Zigi and the Afrozigi dance crew, delivering yet another outstanding set.

The night’s major highlight was the surprise appearance of international artiste Mr P (formerly of P-Square), who thrilled the crowd with his classic tunes.

Overall, the show’s organisation, sound, lighting, and performances were on point, leaving the audience craving more.

That said, there were minor hiccups. Despite improved timing compared to other shows, some felt the event overpromised and underdelivered in parts. VIP and VVIP ticket holders also complained about limited access to facilities such as washrooms.

Still, as BhimFest marks its 10th year, one thing is clear: The Torcher isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Video of ark built by Ghanaian Pastor who is claiming God wants to destroy the earth with flood just like the days of Noah

Drama is unfolding in Ghana following the circulation of a video showing an ark allegedly built by a Ghanaian pastor who claims God has revealed that the world will be destroyed by a flood, similar to the biblical account of Noah.

The pastor, identified as Prophet Eboh Noah, has reportedly constructed eight arks and warned that only those inside them will be saved when the anticipated flood occurs. The prophecy, which he says will be fulfilled on December 25, has prompted panic, curiosity, and widespread reactions both online and offline.

Reports indicate that large numbers of Ghanaians have been trooping to the site in an effort to secure space inside the arks ahead of the predicted “judgement on earth.” Videos and images shared on social media show crowds gathering around the structures, fueling debate and concern across the country.

Earlier in the year, Ghanaian authorities briefly arrested the prophet in connection with his claims. He was later released after officials determined that making religious prophecies does not constitute a criminal offence under the law.

The development has continued to draw public attention as Christmas Day approaches, with many questioning the impact of such predictions on public safety and social order.

Christmas with Purpose: Ambassador Mason’s Message to Ghana and Beyond
Ll

Story By; Felix Ernest Odamtten / Mohammed Faisal Mustaph…

As the world gathers to mark Christmas amid shifting global realities, H.E. Grace Jeanet Mason, South Africa’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Ghana, has issued a heartfelt seasonal message blending diplomacy, faith, civic responsibility, and compassion. In an exclusive interview With Felix Ernest Odamtten / Mohammed Faisal Mustapha, the High Commissioner spoke candidly about leadership, road safety, moderation during festivities, and the deeper spiritual meaning of Christmas urging citizens and staff alike to place Christ at the center of the season.

Her remarks, delivered with characteristic warmth and statesmanship, resonate beyond borders, reflecting the enduring bonds between South Africa and Ghana and a shared commitment to peace, responsibility, and human dignity.

At the outset, High Commissioner Mason extended warm wishes to the staff of the South African High Commission, Ghanaian partners, and the broader public.

“Christmas is a sacred moment for gratitude,” she said. “I wish all our staff, their families, and the people of Ghana a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous, peaceful, and purpose filled 2026.”

She emphasized that the festive season is not merely ceremonial, but an opportunity to renew values of service, empathy, and unity, especially in a world navigating uncertainty.

“Christmas reminds us that leadership is first about care for people, for life, and for one another.”

Speaking with quiet conviction, the High Commissioner underscored the spiritual foundation of Christmas, urging believers to look beyond celebration to reflection.

“In this festive season, let Jesus Christ be our ultimate focus,” she stated. “His life teaches humility, sacrifice, and love values our societies desperately need today.”

She noted that faith, when practiced with humility, can inspire responsible citizenship, ethical leadership, and peaceful coexistence across cultures and nations.

Turning to public safety, H.E. Mason issued a clear and timely caution particularly relevant during a season marked by travel and social gatherings.

“I appeal to everyone: watch what you eat, watch what you drink, and never drink and drive,” she urged.
“No celebration is worth a life lost. Let us arrive alive.”

Her message aligns with global road safety advocacy and reflects a broader diplomatic concern for human life beyond official corridors.

“No celebration is worth a life lost. Let us arrive alive.”

Beyond seasonal greetings, the interview revealed a diplomat deeply invested in people to people relations. High Commissioner Mason described diplomacy as a living practice rooted in empathy, cultural respect, and shared responsibility.

“Our mission is not only about bilateral agreements,” she explained. “It is about building bridges of understanding, especially in moments like Christmas, when humanity is most visible.”

She praised the enduring friendship between Ghana and South Africa, highlighting shared values of peace, faith, resilience, and Pan-African solidarity.

As 2026 approaches, the High Commissioner expressed optimism grounded in action and moral clarity.

“My hope for the coming year is simple,” she said. “That we live more consciously, lead more compassionately, and remember that our actions on the road, at home, and in public life shape the future we leave behind.”

H.E. Grace Jeanet Mason’s Christmas message transcends seasonal pleasantries. It is a call to conscience, a reminder that faith, responsibility, and leadership are inseparable. In urging moderation, road safety, and spiritual focus, she speaks not only as a diplomat, but as a global citizen committed to life, peace, and shared humanity.

As families gather and nations pause to reflect, her words echo with quiet authority: celebrate with joy, live with care, and let love lead the way.

Bank of Ghana Announces Daily Exchange Rates For December 24, 2025

0

The Bank of Ghana has released its daily exchange rates for Wednesday, December 24, 2025, reflecting the interbank rates used by commercial banks at the close of business on December 23, 2025. The rates indicate relative stability in the Ghanaian cedi against major international currencies during the holiday season.

According to the official bulletin, the US dollar is trading at a buying rate of ₵11.3443 and a selling rate of ₵11.3557, showing a narrow spread that suggests stable demand and supply dynamics in the foreign exchange market. This positioning of the cedi against the dollar is particularly significant as the greenback remains the dominant currency for international trade transactions in Ghana.

The British pound sterling shows a stronger position, with buying and selling rates set at ₵15.2944 and ₵15.3109 respectively. Meanwhile, the euro is trading at ₵13.3587 for buying and ₵13.3719 for selling, reflecting the cedi’s performance against the European single currency.

These exchange rates are crucial for businesses engaged in import and export activities, particularly during the festive season when commercial activity traditionally intensifies. The rates serve as benchmark figures for forex transactions across Ghana’s banking sector and provide guidance for business planning and currency risk management.

The Bank of Ghana’s consistent publication of daily exchange rates demonstrates its commitment to transparency in monetary policy and foreign exchange administration. Financial analysts note that the relatively tight spreads between buying and selling rates across all three major currencies indicate healthy liquidity in Ghana’s forex market.

As Ghana approaches the year-end period, these rates will be closely monitored by economists, business operators, and investors seeking to understand the cedi’s trajectory and make informed financial decisions. The central bank continues to play a pivotal role in maintaining exchange rate stability through its monetary policy interventions.

Motorists, traders stranded on bad Elubo–Enchi road during festive travel

0

Motorists transporting tonnes of foodstuffs, farmers, and traders have been stranded on the deplorable Elubo-Enchi road connecting the Western and Western North Regions on the eve of Christmas.

Despite repeated media reports about the road’s poor condition and its inclusion under the government’s Big Push road projects, commuters continue to face severe difficulties, particularly around the stretch leading to the Tano River Bridge.

Travellers are forced to abandon tricycles and traverse long distances on foot through mud and bushy areas, while traders transporting foodstuffs risk losing their investments as trucks remain stuck in the slippery road.

Residents and travelers described the situation as “distressful” and “chaotic,” warning that without urgent intervention, the road conditions could continue to disrupt transportation and commerce during the festive period.

Ateaa Tina worked with the late Daddy Lumba for about five years Ateaa Tina worked with the late Daddy Lumba for about five years

Lead vocalist who worked closely with Highlife great Daddy Lumba, Ateaa Tina, has shared details about her five-year musical journey with the late legend.

In an interview with ZionFelix, she explained how their collaboration came to an end, disclosing that the decision was influenced by her choice to prioritise family life.

Ateaa Tina said she worked with Daddy Lumba on five albums over a five-year stretch. Looking back on their studio experience, she described the late Highlife legend as a “lyrical bank,” noting that he handled both the songwriting and composition on his own.

‘He told me he would outlive his late mother by a few years’ – Ateaa Tina on Daddy Lumba’s demise

“I didn’t write any of the songs. He would just select the parts and say, ‘you do this section.’ I only sang. He is a lyrical bank, he has lots of lyrics,” she said.

She explained that the partnership eventually ended when her personal life took a new turn after she met her husband during one of her visits to Ghana.

“That last time I came to Ghana, that’s when I met my husband,” she recalled.

Ateaa Tina said after getting married and welcoming her first child, it became difficult to juggle family responsibilities with the demands of the music industry.

“The industry and family, it’s hectic. That’s what caused the break. Basically, family,” she stated.

Through her close collaboration with Daddy Lumba on several albums, Ateaa Tina played an important role in Ghana’s Highlife scene.

Her vocals featured on many fan-favourite songs, and their partnership helped shape a sound that remains cherished by listeners.

Rival Chief Seidu Abagre removed following Otumfuo mediation

0

Personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces have removed Alhaji Seidu Abagre from Bawku in line with recommendations contained in the mediation report on the Bawku conflict by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

In a statement issued by the Minister for the Interior, Muntanka Mohammed-Mubarak said the operation was carried out on the afternoon of December 24, 2025, as part of efforts to maintain peace and stability in the area.

The Asantehene, while presenting the Bawku mediation report to President John Dramani Mahama on December 16, 2025, Otumfuo, recommended the strict enforcement of Ghana’s existing laws recognising Asigri Abugrago Azorka II as the lawful Bawku Naba, describing it as the most critical step toward restoring lasting peace in Bawku and the wider Kusasi traditional area.

According to the statement, Alhaji Seidu Abagre is safe and currently in the custody of the security agencies.

The Interior Ministry indicated that the action forms part of the implementation of measures proposed in the Otumfuo-led mediation process aimed at resolving the longstanding Bawku affair.

The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring peace and security in Bawku and urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to restore lasting stability in the area.

Mahama’s trust well placed, I remain focused on fixing education – Haruna Iddrisu

0

Haruna Iddrisu, Education Minister.

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has rejected suggestions that he is dissatisfied with his posting to the Education Ministry, describing his appointment as a purposeful move by President John Dramani Mahama to drive far-reaching reforms in the sector.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on Wednesday, December 24, Mr Iddrisu said the President’s decision followed extensive consultations and was informed by the urgent need to overhaul Ghana’s education system, which continues to face persistent structural challenges.

He stressed that the education sector requires bold and decisive leadership, noting that difficulties span the entire learning chain, from early childhood education through to secondary schooling.

According to him, these challenges must be addressed directly if meaningful progress is to be made.

Mr Iddrisu indicated that the President’s confidence in his abilities was based on his experience and track record in public service, adding that he remains committed to justifying that confidence through results.

He further revealed that the government intends to undertake a comprehensive review of the education system to ensure that it aligns with contemporary global standards and produces graduates who are relevant to the demands of the modern economy.

The Education Minister explained that the reforms will prioritise the development of critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills, rather than an overreliance on rote learning, to better prepare learners to contribute effectively to national development and compete on the global stage.

The annual event once again lived up to its reputation as one of Accra’s most anticipated Christmas gatherings, delivering premium performances and an electric atmosphere that kept the crowd engaged deep into the night.

The celebration kicked off with high-energy DJ sets that warmed up the crowd, with DJ Mingle taking full control of the turntables.

His seamless mixes and genre-blending selections kept the dancefloor packed, ensuring there was no lull in energy as patrons danced nonstop under the night sky.

Adding a rich cultural dimension to the event was the Nyinkyim Band, whose live-band performance brought traditional rhythms and indigenous instrumentation to the fore. Their energetic drumming, choreography, and fusion of heritage sounds with contemporary music injected a unique Ghanaian flavour into the night, drawing cheers and spontaneous dance circles from the crowd.

The mood shifted beautifully as award-winning highlife singer Akwaboah mounted the stage, delivering a soulful and emotionally charged performance. His smooth vocals and love-themed classics created moments of reflection and romance, with patrons singing along and swaying gently, offering a calming contrast to the party’s high-octane moments.

The night took on a spiritual tone when gospel artiste Perez Musik stepped forward, transforming the festive gathering into a powerful moment of worship. His heartfelt ministrations saw hands lifted and voices raised, reminding patrons of the deeper meaning of Christmas amid the celebration. The seamless blend of praise and festivity highlighted the unique character of the Citiuation All White Party.

The peak of the night came when headline act Kofi Kinaata took over the stage, sending the crowd into a frenzy. The multiple award-winning musician delivered a masterclass in performance, combining witty lyricism, relatable storytelling, and infectious energy.

Song after song, Kinaata had the audience singing, jumping, and dancing, effectively shutting down Ghud Park with a performance that crowned the night.

Organised by Channel One TV and Citi FM, the Citiuation All White Party once again proved it is more than just a concert—it is a lifestyle experience that celebrates Ghanaian music, creativity, and culture. With a carefully curated lineup, interactive atmosphere, and flawless execution, the 2025 edition delivered a night to remember.

The event was proudly sponsored by Ecobank, Bethel Logistics, and Hallmark Café, with support from Oswal Investment Limited, Veuve Du Vernay, and Logistics Movers, all contributing to a well-coordinated and unforgettable Christmas Eve celebration.

As the final songs faded and patrons slowly exited the venue, one thing was clear: Ghud Park had witnessed a magical night where music, culture, faith, and fashion came together in true Citiuation style.

Soldiers Remove Rival Mamprusi Chief From Bawku

0

Personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have removed Alhaji Seidu Abagre, the rival Mamprusi chief, from Bawku Township in the Upper East Region, in accordance with recommendations contained in the mediation report on the protracted Bawku conflict led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The development was confirmed by the Ministry of the Interior in a brief statement issued on its official Facebook page on Wednesday, December 24.

“This afternoon, personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) removed Alhaji Seidu Abagre from Bawku, pursuant to the recommendations of the Otumfuo Asantehene Osei Tutu II mediation report regarding the Bawku affair. Alhaji Seidu Abagre is safe in the care of the security agencies,” the statement said.

The removal comes amid ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore lasting peace to Bawku, which has been at the centre of a long-standing chieftaincy dispute. However, shortly after the operation, unconfirmed reports emerged of sporadic gunshots in parts of the township, with possible casualties. The Ministry of the Interior has not commented on these reports.

As part of its proposals to resolve the conflict, the Otumfuo mediation committee recommended that Alhaji Seidu Abagre, who was recently installed by the Mamprusi side as a rival chief, be recalled to Nalerigu by the Overlord of Mamprugu, the Nayiri.

Under the recommendations, Mr Abagre is to be reassigned to perform a different traditional role at the Nayiri’s Palace in Nalerigu, rather than remain in Bawku as a chief. The report further provides an alternative option should he choose to stay in Bawku.

“The final resolution of the Bawku Matters requires that Mr Seidu Abagre be recalled to Nalerigu by the Nayiri to be reassigned to play another traditional role at the Palace of the Nayiri, assisted by the State. Alternatively, he may choose to stay in Bawku as an ordinary citizen of the community but not to pose as Bawku Naba,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stated while presenting the report.

The mediation committee’s recommendations were formally presented to President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, December 16.

In reiterating the legal position on the dispute, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II noted that the matter has been conclusively settled by the courts, with the Supreme Court affirming Asigri Abugrago Azoka II as the lawful Bawku Naba.

Hotels in Accra are often fully booked during the festival period, while shops, markets, and food vendors experience increased foot traffic as tourists seek to immerse themselves in the local atmosphere.

The availability of different ticket options also means that people from various economic backgrounds can participate, broadening the demographic of festival-goers and ensuring that the festival remains an event that welcomes people from all walks of life. This inclusive pricing structure can have long-term benefits for Accra’s tourism, as it helps foster a loyal audience that will return for future cultural events.

A Growing Cultural Appeal for International Visitors

“I Warned Her, She Didn’t Listen”—Bishop Obinim Blames Daughter’s Social Media Spats on Disobedience

0

Bishop Daniel Obinim has publicly revealed that he advised his daughter, Florence Obinim, to stay away from social media, claiming that her recent controversies and online spats could have been avoided if she had heeded his warning.

According to the controversial cleric, Florence was repeatedly cautioned about the potential pitfalls of online engagement, including the risk of public backlash and misinterpretation. “I told her to stay off social media, but she wouldn’t listen,” Bishop Obinim said, highlighting his frustration with her disregard for his advice.

Florence Obinim has, in recent weeks, been at the center of heated debates and viral content on social media platforms, drawing criticism, memes, and public scrutiny. The bishop’s statement appears to be an attempt to explain the situation while distancing himself from the fallout of her online activity.

Observers say the revelation underscores the growing tension between parental authority and the influence of social media on youth, especially when fame or notoriety is involved. Critics argue that simply advising someone to stay offline is insufficient in an era where social media is deeply woven into daily life, while supporters contend that parental guidance should not be ignored lightly.

As Florence continues her online presence, the public will be watching closely to see whether she adjusts her behavior or continues to fuel controversy, even as her father warns of the consequences. For Bishop Obinim, the message is clear: the warnings were given, the choice was hers, and the responsibility for any fallout now lies squarely with Florence herself.

In a strong and reflective address that resonated deeply with both young participants and community leaders, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Nadowli Kaleo District, Hon. Mary Haruna, has challenged the youth of the district to embrace discipline, integrity, and community service as the foundation for sustainable development and future leadership.

Speaking at the Nadowli Youth Summit held at the McCoy College of Education on Monday, December 22, 2025, Hon. Haruna described the gathering as a defining moment in the district’s youth development journey.

“This summit is not a ceremonial event. It is a turning point one that demands reflection, responsibility, and action from every young person present,” she said.

The summit was held under the theme:
“Building Responsible Youth in the Nadowli Kaleo District.”

Moving beyond the traditional notion of youth as leaders in waiting, the DCE emphasised that young people must be seen as active partners in today’s governance and development process, not merely beneficiaries of future opportunities.

“The true measure of any society is not found in its wealth or natural resources, but in the character, discipline, and sense of responsibility of its youth,” Hon. Haruna stated.

She urged participants to see responsible living not age or title as the true pathway to leadership, noting that values driven youth form the backbone of peaceful and prosperous communities.

“Youth empowerment is not just a policy choice; it is a national priority and a moral obligation.”

Hon. Haruna highlighted key national interventions aimed at addressing youth unemployment and economic vulnerability, commending the administration of President John Dramani Mahama for placing youth development at the centre of Ghana’s governance agenda.

She cited the creation of the Ministry of Youth Development and the rollout of the Adwumawura Programme as landmark initiatives with direct relevance to districts like Nadowli Kaleo.

According to her, the Adwumawura Programme is structured to support the creation of 10,000 youth led businesses annually, offering training, mentorship, and access to funding.

“This programme is a clear demonstration that government believes in the creativity, resilience, and enterprise of Ghanaian youth,” she noted.

Providing a rare district level breakdown, the DCE revealed that the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has expanded its footprint in the Nadowli Kaleo District, currently engaging 81 young people under the Community Support Module.

The beneficiaries include:
° 29 Community Police Assistants
° 12 personnel with the Ghana National Fire Service
° 24 with the National Ambulance Service
° 8 attached to the Ghana Prisons Service
° 6 Arabic tutors
° 2 beneficiaries under the Insurance Commission.

All participants, she said, receive a monthly allowance of GH¢800, offering both income support and valuable public service experience.

“These are not just numbers. They are lives being stabilised, skills being developed, and futures being shaped,” Hon. Haruna stressed.

“Responsible living today determines credible leadership tomorrow.”

Acknowledging the realities confronting young people unemployment, limited opportunities, and negative social influences the DCE urged the youth to look beyond despair and tap into emerging opportunities in agriculture, entrepreneurship, digital innovation, and community service.

She encouraged continuous education, skills acquisition, and ethical entrepreneurship, while calling on the youth to uphold peace, unity, and respect for diversity in an increasingly complex social environment.

“As District Chief Executive, I call on every young person to translate the ideals of responsibility into concrete action. The future of the Nadowli Kaleo District is in our collective hands,” she said.

Expressing optimism about the long term impact of the summit, Hon. Haruna said she believes history will remember the current generation as one that laid the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous Nadowli Kaleo District.

The summit brought together traditional leaders, government officials, youth groups, civil society actors, and other stakeholders, who deliberated on practical strategies for nurturing a responsible, empowered, and development oriented youth population.

As the discussions concluded, one message stood clear: responsibility is not optional it is essential.

Ghanaians mark Christmas with joy

0

Accra, Dec 25, GNA – Today, December 25, marks another joyous Christmas in Ghana.

Christmas is an annual Christian holiday celebrated on December 25 to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, whom Christians believe to be the Son of God.

Over time, it has also evolved into a major cultural and secular celebration worldwide, observed by many non-Christians.

Across the country, church services and numerous social activities will mark the day.

While some traders have noted a shift towards more cautious spending this year, the “December in GH” spirit remains alive with musical concerts, theatre festivals, family gatherings, reunions, gift sharing and donations planned for the season. In various Christmas messages ahead of the festivities, the clergy have made passionate appeals for the nation to return to the core meaning of the season.

Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, and other heads of major denominations have cautioned against the “commercialisation” of the holiday.

“Christmas must move beyond mere celebration to inspire ethical leadership and compassion,” they urged.

“We must resist efforts to remove Christ from the consciousness of humanity and instead allow His message of peace and reconciliation to guide our national life,” Apostle Nyamekye said.

The Christian Council of Ghana reminded the faithful that Christ is the “reason for the season,” urging Ghanaians to let His life influence every endeavour – from family life to public discourse and governance.

As the nation navigates a significant political and economic period, some leaders have emphasised the need for national cohesion.

President John Dramani Mahama, in his first Christmas message since returning to office, urged Ghanaians to draw strength from one another. He stressed that the “hope of Christmas” should fuel the collective task of rebuilding the economy.

Religious and civil society leaders, including the Frimpong-Manso Institute, have also called for tolerance and cooperation, noting that Ghana’s peace architecture remains a beacon of stability in the West African sub-region.

The theme of “sacrificial giving” has been recurring, with calls to reach out to the vulnerable, orphans and the “stranger in our gates.”

Amid the festivities, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the National Road Safety Authority have issued strong alerts to the public.

To ensure the holidays do not end in tragedy, motorists and pedestrians have been urged to avoid the “Four Destructive S’s”:

Speeding, Somnolence (tiredness), Substances (alcohol/drugs) and Shoddy overtaking.

Passengers are also encouraged to “speak up” against reckless driving.Health experts have cautioned against excessive consumption of food and alcohol.

The Ministry of Health reminded the public: “Your life is precious to the nation,” urging moderation to avoid sudden health complications during the yuletide.

For Christians, Christmas marks the event in which God became human, born as a helpless baby in a stable.

The Incarnation is a key moment in the story of salvation and is understood as the beginning of an act of divine love for humanity that culminates in Christ’s death and Resurrection at Easter.

According to Britannica encyclopaedia, December 25 was first identified as the date of Jesus’ birth by Sextus Julius Africanus in 221 and later became universally accepted.

One explanation for the origin of this date is that December 25 was chosen to Christianise the dies solis invicti nati (“day of the birth of the unconquered sun”), a Roman holiday celebrating the winter solstice as a symbol of the sun’s resurgence and the heralding of spring and summer.

The Church in Rome began formally celebrating Christmas on December 25 in 336, during the reign of Emperor Constantine.

As Constantine had made Christianity the effective religion of the empire, some believed that choosing this date had the political motive of weakening established pagan celebrations, according to the Britannica.

Christmas is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in the world Christmas is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in the world

GhanaWeb Feature by Amos Manteaw

Christmas is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in the world, observed annually on December 25 to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.

While it is primarily a Christian festival, the holiday has grown to become a cultural celebration embraced by people of various faiths and communities, bringing together families, friends and communities in a spirit of joy and unity.

Across the globe, people celebrate Christmas in different ways, from attending church services and singing carols to decorating homes and exchanging gifts.

Christmas Currency Market: Cedi selling at GH¢11.35 to $1 on December 24

There are four things that naturally come with Christmas celebrations

1.Change of greetings to Merry Christmas

During the festive season, greetings like “Hello” or “Good morning” are replaced with “Merry Christmas,” spreading cheer and goodwill.

2.Special food in households

Food is at the heart of Christmas celebrations. Most households prepare special meals to mark the occasion, often featuring dishes that are not part of everyday meals.

In Ghana, families enjoy roasted meats, jollof rice, fufu with light soup and festive cakes and pastries.

Sharing these meals brings families together and strengthens bonds within communities.

3. Christmas gifts from people

Gift-giving is a central part of the holiday. People exchange present with family, friends and colleagues. For children and adults alike, receiving or giving gifts adds excitement and joy to the season.

4. Decorations

Beyond greetings, food and gifts, Christmas is also celebrated with vibrant decorations, including Christmas trees, lights and ornaments.

Caroling and musical performances are common in both churches and communities, while family reunions and festive events foster a sense of togetherness.

Many people also use the holiday season as an opportunity to engage in charitable acts, helping the less fortunate and spreading hope.

The Akuapem Traditional Council has suspended the Okuapehemaa, Nana Afua Obuo Nketiah, over what it has described as acts of insubordination.

The decision was announced by the Council under the umbrella of five divisional chiefs, which is led by the Osahene, Boafo Ansah III, who also serves as the Akuapem Krontihene.

Speaking during a meeting of the Traditional Council, Osahene Boafo Ansah III stated that the Okuapehemaa has failed to maintain a working relationship with the Council, noting that she has not attended any council meetings for the past six years.

“From today, we have nothing to do with her. For the past six years, she has not stepped foot here to attend meetings with the Traditional Council,” he said.

The Council further accused Nana Afua Obuo Nketiah of making public utterances that it says have brought disrepute to the Akuapem Traditional State.

According to the leadership of the Council, her public comments have not helped the image and unity of the traditional area.

The Okuapehemaa was also accused of attempting to disrupt the recently held Odwira Festival, one of the most important traditional festivals of the Akuapem people.

“She also tried to stop the recent Odwira Festival,” Osahene Boafo Ansah III added.

The Traditional Council maintained that the suspension takes immediate effect and forms part of efforts to uphold discipline, respect for traditional authority, and the preservation of customs within the Akuapem Traditional Area.

Quizzed by the interviewer on the source of funding for these projects, Ebo replied, saying that God somehow touched the hearts of his financiers, who graciously supported him.

He, however, stated that he had been praying fervently, hoping the rain would not pour down.

He also wanted to put it out there, just in case his vision does not come to pass, the people who will throng the site of the Arks should know that God has heard the prayers of the believers and given humanity another chance.

Miss Health Organisation unveils new Miss Health Africa and Ghana queens

0

The Miss Health Organisation, a Ghanaian non-profit focused on health advocacy and women’s empowerment, has officially announced the winners of its latest pageant, crowning new ambassadors for health promotion in Ghana and across Africa.

Established in 2018 by Lamrock Agency, the organisation has carved a unique niche by combining pageantry with health education and advocacy.

Through its annual Miss Health pageant, it promotes physical, mental and social well-being, in line with the World Health Organization’s definition of health as a holistic state of well-being.

Headlining this year’s event is the crowning of Miss Health Africa, a continental initiative designed to unite women in the health sector to advance wellness advocacy beyond national borders.

The Miss Health Africa 2025 crown was won by Dr Malegho Chelsie Jomsentut, a medical doctor from Cameroon, whose campaign centres on cardiovascular health, with a strong focus on reducing hypertension in African communities.

At the national level, Doreen Afriyie Afoakwa, a professional nurse, emerged as Miss Health Ghana 2025. Her advocacy prioritises mental health, particularly support systems for unemployed health professionals, drawing attention to the psychological toll faced by many within the healthcare workforce.

Maud Codjie, a final-year nursing student, was named First Runner-Up. She has led sustained public education on hepatitis B, engaging schools, churches and correctional facilities to promote awareness, testing and prevention.

The Second Runner-Up position went to Mabel Obeng, a realtor and master’s student in philosophy and leadership, whose advocacy focuses on menstrual health education and leadership empowerment for young women and girls.

The newly crowned queens are expected to lead health campaigns, encourage preventive care and influence positive lifestyle choices within communities across Ghana and the wider African continent.

According to the Executive Director of the Miss Health Organisation, Miss Gladys Akyere Rockson, the initiative is rooted in the belief that access to healthcare is a shared responsibility.

She explained that the introduction of Miss Health Africa was inspired by the need to elevate health advocacy to a continental level, stressing that the platform is here to stay.

The organisation has urged the public to support and celebrate the queens as they champion the vision of a healthier Ghana and a healthier Africa.

Prophet Uche’s prophecy resurfaces as committee recommends five-year presidential term

Founder and leader of Reign House Chapel, Prophet Eric Boahen Uche, on December 31, 2024, delivered a prophecy concerning a bill in Parliament that would seek to extend the tenure of office of the President of the Republic.

In the prophecy, which has since resurfaced and circulated widely, the prophet predicted that the passage of the bill would be accompanied by heated arguments and confusion within the parliamentary chamber.

According to him, the proposed legislation would seek to extend the term of office of the President.

“I saw them pass a law in Parliament and there was argument and confusion. A bill will be passed in Parliament and there will be confusion. This bill will seek to extend the term of office of the President,” he said.

LIVESTREAMING: Constitution Review Committee presents final report to President Mahama

The prophecy has re-emerged following recent recommendations by the Constitutional Review Committee to extend Ghana’s presidential term from four years to five years.

The Committee argues that the current four-year tenure does not provide sufficient time for governments to effectively implement their policies.

Presenting the Committee’s report to President John Dramani Mahama at Jubilee House on Monday, December 22, 2025, the Chairman, Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, emphasised that the proposal is intended solely to enhance governance efficiency and does not include any provision for a third presidential term.

Constitutional Review Committee proposes five-year Presidential term

“We couldn’t find a place for a third term; there was no demand for it, and nobody seemed to support it, including President Mahama,” Professor Prempeh stated.

The Committee further observed that a significant portion of the four-year presidential term is often lost to administrative transitions and electioneering activities.

Professor Prempeh explained that, on average, a President spends about six months settling into office and nearly a year campaigning for re-election, thereby reducing effective governance time.

To address this challenge, the Committee also recommended regulating campaign seasons to curb prolonged political activity and allow governments adequate time to focus on governance.

What Prophet Uche said prior to recent chaos in France

The Committee’s mandate was to review and resolve outstanding challenges from previous constitutional review processes, particularly those of the 2010 Constitution Review Commission and the 2023 Constitution Review Consultative Committee.

Compiled over several months, the final report contains proposed amendments to Ghana’s 1992 Constitution aimed at strengthening governance, promoting citizen participation, and addressing key national issues.

Meanwhile, President Mahama is expected to outline the next steps for implementing the recommendations, marking a significant moment in Ghana’s democratic process.

NAIMOS raids galamsey site behind Kwabeng Anglican SHS, seizes excavators and pay loader

0

A NAIMOS taskforce deployed to the Eastern Region has disrupted illegal mining activities at Kwabeng in the Atiwa West District, following an operation carried out on Sunday, December 21, 2025.

The operation targeted a site located behind the dormitory of Kwabeng Anglican Senior High School, where illegal miners were actively operating.

During the exercise, the taskforce observed that mined materials were being washed directly into the River Ewusu, leading to significant pollution of the water body.

As part of the operation, three excavators and one pay loader were seized. The machines have since been conveyed to the NAIMOS Secretariat equipment park for safekeeping.

In addition, several heavy-duty water pumping machines, along with other mining equipment and makeshift structures erected at the site, were destroyed.

The taskforce also removed key excavator parts to immobilise other machines that were left behind at the mining location.

The intervention effectively brought a halt to the uncontrolled illegal mining activities in the area and prevented further environmental degradation of the River Ewusu.

Authorities say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to protect water bodies and curb illegal mining across the country.

Government to reform cultural, creative sector policies

0

Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has said the Government is reviewing outdated laws and policies to strengthen Ghana’s cultural and creative economy.

She said the review included the National Cultural Policy and was aimed at unlocking the full potential of the creative sector.

Madam Gomashie made the remarks when she delivered the keynote address at the third sitting of the second session of the 25th Congregation Ceremony of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in Accra.

The ceremony, held under the theme “From heritage to creative futures: Reimagining development through creative education and enterprise,” celebrated academic achievement and reflected on the role of culture, creativity and innovation in national development.

Madam Gomashie said aligning policy and legal frameworks with global trends, while reflecting Ghana’s local realities, was critical to building a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable creative industry.

She said the Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts sector contributed about US$4.8 billion to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product in 2024 and attracted approximately 1.2 million visitors, describing tourism as a vital link between Ghana’s cultural heritage and global experiences.

The Minister said Ghana’s authenticity, traditions and shared African identity continued to attract visitors worldwide and stressed the need for greater appreciation of indigenous knowledge and cultural practices, particularly among the youth, as a basis for economic growth and creative enterprise.

She urged graduates and faculty to partner Government through innovation, research and enterprise development to help shape the future of the sector.

Prof. Yaw Agyeman Badu, Chairman of GIMPA’s Governing Council, congratulated the graduating class for their perseverance and discipline, describing graduation as a moment of continuity and renewal.

He reaffirmed GIMPA’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation and national relevance, and highlighted the Institute’s role in producing leaders for the public and private sectors.

Prof. Samuel Kwaku Bonsu, Rector of GIMPA, outlined key achievements over the past year, including strengthened collaboration with Government, expanded continental partnerships and an increased focus on graduate education.

He announced the approval of a new School of Creative Arts Leadership and Enterprise (G-SCALE), expected to commence operations in September 2026, to address skills gaps and leadership needs in the creative arts sector.

Prof. Bonsu said the Institute would also advance digital transformation, adopt artificial intelligence and promote sustainable growth as it prepared to mark its 65th anniversary.

As part of the ceremony, Madam Gomashie and the Chairman of the Governing Council presented awards to the overall best graduating student.

The Minister was also presented with a portrait award in recognition of her contributions to the tourism, culture and creative arts sector and her support for GIMPA’s 25th Congregation.

Pentecost Elder Kills His Wife, Locked Her Up In A Room For A Week, Here’s Why

0

According to a report by Ghpage News, in a disturbing report emerging from a local community, a Pentecostal elder has been accused of imprisoning his wife in their home for an entire week.

The unsettling allegations have raised eyebrows and sparked discussions about domestic abuse in religious settings.

Authorities responded to the situation after receiving an anonymous tip-off. Upon their arrival, they discovered the woman reportedly confined within a single room, showing signs of distress and malnourishment.

Neighbors had expressed concerns about the couple’s welfare, noting that they had not seen the woman for an extended period.

Witnesses reported that the church elder had allegedly justified his actions through his interpretation of biblical teachings.

Eyewitness accounts describe a tense atmosphere in the neighborhood, with many locals feeling a mixture of confusion and outrage over the elder’s behavior.

The police have since launched an investigation, interviewing the elder and gathering additional information.

While the elder has been cooperative, legal experts caution that interpreting religious texts can sometimes lead to dangerous misunderstandings, particularly in matters related to domestic relationships.

Community leaders and mental health professionals are now calling for more awareness and education regarding domestic abuse, especially in faith-based communities.

They emphasize that any form of violence or coercive control is unacceptable, irrespective of one’s religious beliefs.

As the investigation continues, the local congregation is reportedly in shock, grappling with the implications of these allegations on their community.

While some church members stand by the elder, others are advocating for greater scrutiny and accountability within religious institutions.

The case highlights the broader issue of how faith can sometimes be manipulated in ways that are harmful.

Advocacy groups urge individuals to recognize the signs of abuse and to seek help when needed, stating that everyone deserves to feel safe in their home.

As this situation develops, many are hopeful for justice and healing for the individuals involved, as well as a meaningful dialogue about the intersections of faith and domestic safety.

From uncertainty to clarity: Ghana draws the line on digital assets

0

Ghana has taken a decisive step into the digital future following the passage of the country’s Virtual Asset legislation, a move the Chamber of Digital Assets and Blockchain Innovation (CDABI-GH) describes as historic and confidence-building for investors, innovators and citizens alike.

In a statement issued in Accra, CDABI-GH praised the Bank of Ghana, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Parliament for what it called a clear signal to the world that while innovation is welcome in Ghana, responsibility remains non-negotiable.

According to the Chamber, the new law marks a major turning point for the country’s digital economy, transforming what was once a fast-moving and uncertain space into a regulated, credible and investable ecosystem.

It said the legislation sends a strong message that Ghana is open to innovation, safe for investors and protective of its citizens.

CDABI-GH reserved special commendation for the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, the VASP policy and technical teams, as well as the Director-General of the SEC and his staff, describing their work as disciplined, forward-looking and firmly grounded in the national interest.

The Chamber said its collective efforts have brought structure and governance to a complex frontier that demanded clarity.

The Chamber also applauded Parliament for what it described as diligence and statesmanship, noting that lawmakers chose thoughtful regulation over delay and progress over hesitation.

That decision, it said, positions Ghana not as a country chasing digital trends, but one shaping its own digital future.

Describing the law as more than a legal instrument, CDABI-GH said the Virtual Asset Act provides the certainty markets require, the safeguards consumers deserve and the framework regulators need to supervise the sector with confidence. It added that Ghana has now moved from experimentation to institution, and from promise to policy.

As an industry partner, the Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Bank of Ghana and the SEC during the implementation phase.

It pledged to promote compliance, build capacity, educate market participants and encourage responsible innovation across the digital asset ecosystem.

According to CDABI-GH, the passage of the law will stand as a defining moment in Ghana’s digital journey, stressing that digital leadership is not accidental but the result of deliberate choice.

With the new framework in place, the Chamber said Ghana has drawn a clear line for the future: innovate boldly, operate responsibly and grow sustainably.

Watch as security officer escorting Abu Trica and his ‘gang’ falls off moving vehicle

One of the officers of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), who was part of the state security team escorting Frederick Kumi, also known as Abu Trica, fell off a moving vehicle at the Gbese District Court.

Abu Trica has been indicted by United States authorities and arrested by Ghanaian security agencies for his alleged role in defrauding elderly victims of more than US$8 million.

The incident occurred on December 23, 2025, after Abu Trica and his accomplices appeared before the court under heavy security.

Following the court proceedings, security officers were escorting the Ghanaian nationals, who had been remanded into custody out of the court premises.

However, in a video that has since gone viral, one of the NACOC officers, who was riding in a pickup security vehicle with his colleagues, lost his balance on top of the vehicle as the driver sped off from the court premises.

The officer fell off the moving vehicle but quickly got back on his feet, picked up his firearm and composed himself before running to catch up with the vehicle.

Meanwhile, during the court proceedings, some supporters of Abu Trica were heard wishing him well. In one instance, a voice speaking in Twi was heard saying, “God be with you. Everything will be fine,” as he was ushered into the court premises.

Abu Trica was arrested by authorities in Ghana on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

According to unsealed documents from the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, Abu Trica is accused of being part of a criminal network that targeted senior citizens through online romance scams across the United States since 2023.

Prosecutors allege that Abu Trica and his conspirators used Artificial Intelligence software to assume false identities and cultivate intimate online relationships with victims.

Watch the moment Abu Trica appeared in court under heavy security

They then gained the trust of elderly individuals through social media and dating platforms before soliciting money or valuables under false pretenses, including urgent medical expenses, travel costs, and investment opportunities.

The indictment further claims that once funds were transferred, Abu Trica helped distribute the money from Ohio to conspirators in Ghana and other locations.

He is currently facing charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering conspiracy, and a forfeiture specification. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison.

I’ve not disappointed Mahama as Education Minister – Haruna Iddrisu

0

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has dismissed claims that he is unhappy or disappointed with his appointment to head the Education Ministry, insisting that he is fully prepared to confront the challenges facing the sector and help reposition it for the future.

Speaking on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Wednesday, December 24, Mr. Iddrisu said his appointment was a deliberate decision by President John Dramani Mahama, following wide consultations, and was aimed at driving a reset of Ghana’s education system.

“Not at all, I’m sure President Mahama widely consulted in taking me to the Education Ministry, probably to help reset the education sector, which undoubtedly faces enormous challenges,” he said.

The Education Minister acknowledged that Ghana’s education system faces deep-rooted problems across all levels, from basic to secondary education, and said these issues must be tackled decisively.

“From Kindergarten to Primary Junior High School to Secondary Education, there are significant challenges and problems that need to be dealt with head-on,” he stated.

Mr. Iddrisu expressed confidence that the President entrusted him with the portfolio because of his experience and judgment, stressing that he intends to live up to that confidence.

“I’m sure he trusted my judgment in that respect, I have not disappointed in the last one year and I shall not,” he said.

Outlining his vision for the sector, the Minister said the government plans a comprehensive review of Ghana’s education system to ensure it produces graduates equipped with relevant skills for the modern world.

“We will review Ghana’s education generally in order that we will produce competencies that can withstand the 21st century,” he noted.

According to him, the focus will go beyond rote learning and academic knowledge to developing critical thinking and analytical skills among learners.

“Therefore we intend to work to equip Ghanaians with the 21st century skills, not just knowledge, but critical and analytical minds to contribute to the development of our country and global affairs,” Mr. Iddrisu added.

God allegedly postponed destruction of the earth by water

Self-acclaimed Ghanaian prophet Ebo Noah Self-acclaimed Ghanaian prophet Ebo Noah

Self-acclaimed Ghanaian prophet Ebo Noah has claimed that God has allegedly postponed the destruction of the world by water following what he describes as divine intervention through prayer and intercession.

In a video update shared on social media, Ebo Noah stated that after intense prayers, he received a fresh vision in which he saw large numbers of people from across Ghana and the world gathering to enter an ark he claims to have built.

According to him, the ark was unable to contain the influx of people, prompting further intercession.

He explained that after prayers with what he described as “great men of God,” God allegedly granted more time for additional arks to be constructed to accommodate everyone.

“And through my prayers I got another vision and, in the vision, when you look at the number of people coming all over the country all over the world into the ark the expansion of the ark couldn’t contain them so I shared my vision to some great men of God who also interceded with me.

“After the intercession God has given us some time to build more arks in addition to the tent that will contain all of us so tomorrow nobody should rush to any location, I am not selling tickets I am not taking money from anyone also so please stay home enjoy yourself, “he said.

Who is Ebo Noah and why is he building an ark like the biblical Noah?

The update comes amid heightened public attention following Ebo Noah’s earlier prophecy that it would rain on December 25, 2025, a claim that has sparked intense debate and public scrutiny.

In a separate video that surfaced on December 16, 2025, the controversial prophet warned members of the public against threatening or attacking him should the prophecy fail to materialise.

He cautioned skeptics to stay away from his ark on the said date if they do not believe in the prophecy.

What Ken Ofori-Atta’s US lawyer said about his extradition case

Ken Ofori-Atta's international lawyer Enayat Qasimi (L) recently spoke with the BBC play videoKen Ofori-Atta’s international lawyer Enayat Qasimi (L) recently spoke with the BBC

International lawyer Enayat Qasimi, representing former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta, has disclosed that the ongoing GRA–SML case against his client is “politically motivated”, insisting that Ofori-Atta is not evading justice.

In an interview with the BBC shared on December 24, 2025, Qasimi said Ken Ofori-Atta is committed to abiding by the laws of Ghana and answering any questions regarding his tenure as Finance Minister.

“He’s committed to fully complying with the laws of Ghana, and he’s fully committed to answering for anything that he did when he was Finance Minister. There’s absolutely no question about that. The question is, is he being given the rights that he’s guaranteed under Ghanaian law? He’s not. He’s never been,” Qasimi said.

‘Ken Ofori-Atta is trying to secure permanent residence in the US’ – Martin Kpebu alleges

The lawyer added that Ghanaian authorities were aware that Ofori-Atta was in the United States, making the issuance of a red notice unnecessary.

“Ofori-Atta was receiving treatment in the US. They knew this all along. There was no purpose for issuing the red notice, but they went ahead and issued it,” he said.

Ofori-Atta is currently at the centre of an international legal battle. Authorities in Ghana have formally requested his extradition from the United States to face corruption-related charges, mainly linked to contracts awarded between the Ghana Revenue Authority and private firm Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).

The final decision now rests with US judicial authorities, who will determine whether there is sufficient basis for extradition.

However, prosecutors have rejected claims of political persecution, stating that the charges are based on evidence and that the former minister failed to cooperate with investigations.

The allegations include payments of more than $1 million to SML without proof of performance, as well as a contract that prosecutors say was illegally awarded.

Davido places risky bet and cashes out after Super Eagles triumph Davido places risky bet and cashes out after Super Eagles triumph

Nigerian music star David Adeleke, aka Davido, has returned to the spotlight, this time making a winning bet on the Super Eagles’ first match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ahead of Nigeria’s Group C match against Tanzania, Davido reportedly placed a $25,000 bet on a daring prediction that both teams would score.

Prior to the kickoff, the artist expressed confidence in the game, predicting goals from both teams rather than a one-sided outcome.

The match, held in Fès, Morocco, lived up to expectations. Nigeria scored first before Tanzania equalised in the second half.

The Super Eagles, on the other hand, recovered control when Ademola Lookman scored the winning goal, securing a 2-1 victory in Nigeria’s AFCON debut. The outcome not only secured three critical points for Nigeria but also ensured Davido’s prediction came true.

With both sides scoring as expected, Davido reportedly received a payout of $96,564, converting his pre-match risk into a huge victory.

The result elicited extensive social media reactions, with supporters complimenting both the Super Eagles’ performance and Davido’s football abilities. Nigeria will now attempt to gain momentum in their next Group C match as the AFCON tournament continues.

The Enchi District Magistrate Court in the Western North Region has fined a labourer, GH¢1,200 or in default nine months imprisonment for stealing a 64-year-old farmer’s nanny goat valued at GH¢1,500 at Dadieso.

Saiba Yusif, 37, a notorious thief in his neighbourhood, pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.

The court presided over by Lawrence Buanor-Buer convicted Yusif on his own plea and further ordered him to pay GH¢3,000 in compensation to the complainant, Godfred Konti.

General Sergeant Stephen Offei Asante told the court that the complainant and Yusif resided at Dadieso in the Suaman district of the Western North Region.

He said that on September 11, 2025, the complainant left his four goats out to graze, but one nanny goat failed to return to their pen.

The prosecutor said the complainant reported the matter at the Dadieso police station and informed some food vendors in his area that his goat was missing, asking them to alert him if they found it.

General Sergeant Asante said on September 15, 2025, that the police, who had received a tip-off that the accused was behind the theft, started monitoring him, and he was arrested while attempting to sell the meat.

He said Yusif was escorted to the police station, cautioned, and, after investigation, brought before the court and charged with stealing.

The accident involved a Nissan Urvan minibus, a moving trailer and a long trailer that had been parked at the roadside. Eyewitnesses say poor visibility caused by the faulty streetlight made it difficult for the minibus driver to detect the stationary trailer in time, leading to the fatal collision.

The force of the impact scattered debris across the highway, drawing shocked onlookers as emergency personnel quickly arrived at the scene to provide assistance and control traffic.

Residents of the area say the particular stretch of the highway has become notorious for repeated accidents, which they largely attribute to defective streetlights and poor visibility at night.

Many expressed frustration over what they describe as a longstanding problem that continues to claim lives.

“This is not the first time,” one resident said. “We have lost too many people here because the streetlights are not working.”

Although the deceased has been identified, authorities say details are being withheld until the family has been formally notified. The injured victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently receiving treatment.

In the wake of the incident, residents and regular road users are once again calling on the relevant authorities to urgently fix the faulty streetlights and introduce stronger road safety measures to prevent further tragedies on the Kasoa Highway.

BoG rolls out major reforms to reset Microfinance Sector

0

The Bank of Ghana has rolled out a comprehensive reform programme aimed at stabilising Ghana’s microfinance sector, restoring public confidence, and strengthening financial inclusion.

The reforms respond to longstanding structural weaknesses in the microfinance industry, which have led to institutional failures, depositor losses and weak supervision in recent years  .

Why the reforms are necessary

According to the central bank, the reforms are intended to address governance lapses, poor risk management, weak capitalisation and regulatory arbitrage that have undermined confidence in microfinance institutions.

The Bank of Ghana notes that while microfinance remains critical to supporting small businesses, traders and low-income households, persistent weaknesses have exposed depositors to significant risk and threatened financial stability.

New institutional structure

A key pillar of the reform is the introduction of a clearer and more structured institutional architecture for the microfinance sector. Under the new framework, institutions will be categorised into four distinct groups, each with defined mandates and prudential requirements:

  • Microfinance Banks (MFBs)
  • Community Banks (CBs)
  • Credit Unions (CUs)
  • Last-Mile Providers (LMPs)

This classification is designed to reduce overlaps, eliminate regulatory gaps and ensure that institutions operate strictly within their licensed scope  .

Stronger supervision and governance

The reforms also place strong emphasis on governance and supervision. Boards and management of microfinance institutions will face stricter accountability requirements, while supervisory oversight will be intensified to ensure compliance with prudential standards.

The Bank of Ghana says enforcement will focus not just on compliance “on paper”, but on whether controls work in practice, risks are identified early, and corrective action is taken promptly.

Role of ARB Apex Bank expanded

As part of the reforms, the ARB Apex Bank will be repositioned as a strategic policy and support institution for the entire microfinance ecosystem — beyond rural and community banks.

Its expanded role will include sector-wide capacity building, policy transmission, liquidity support and institutional strengthening to improve resilience across the industry.

Protecting depositors and rebuilding trust

The central bank stresses that protecting depositors is at the heart of the reform agenda. By strengthening supervision, improving governance and clarifying institutional roles, the reforms aim to prevent a repeat of past sector failures that left customers unable to access their savings.

The Bank of Ghana believes these measures will help rebuild trust in microfinance institutions and encourage responsible growth of financial services at the community level.

Supporting financial inclusion

While tightening oversight, the Bank of Ghana says the reforms are not intended to stifle innovation or access to finance. Instead, the goal is to create a safer, more credible microfinance sector that can continue to support financial inclusion, small enterprises and local economic activity.

The central bank describes the reforms as a long-term reset rather than a quick fix, noting that sustained discipline and cooperation from industry players will be required for lasting impact.

Cameroon opened their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a sense of purpose, edging past Gabon to take an early step toward the knockout stage in Morocco.

The Indomitable Lions are under new management for the tournament, with David Pagou taking the reins after the dismissal of coach Marc Brys, and his first competitive appearance delivered both belief and points.

Cameroon only needed six minutes to go ahead through Karl Etta Eyong, who slotted home after receiving a pass from Bryan Mbeumo. The goal was first ruled out for offside before VAR stepped in and allowed the celebrations to flow.

Samuel Kotto later sent a header off target from Mbeumo’s pinpoint cross, while Denis Bouanga had a close-range effort blocked in Gabon’s best moment before the break.

Bryan Mbeumo was shown a yellow card for a bad foul in the 79th minute.

Cameroon suffered a blow when midfielder Carlos Baleba did not return for the second half due to injury, but the five-time champions stayed compact and saw out the win.

Ghana to push UN motion declaring slave trade humanity’s greatest crime

0

President John Mahama has declared that Ghana will not forget, excuse or downplay the horrors of slavery, as the country prepares to push a United Nations motion to recognise the transatlantic slave trade as the greatest crime against humanity.

Speaking at the opening of the Diaspora Summit 2025 recently, he said the global conversation on reparative justice has reached a decisive moment.

He warned against attempts to erase history, insisting that Africa and its diaspora do not have the luxury of forgetting “the blood that was spilled, the lives that were lost and the years that were sacrificed in order to fight for our freedom.”

President Mahama said this was not a time for historical amnesia, especially when people of African descent continue to face racist language, discrimination and the stripping of rights they have earned.

He said the present moment demands clarity, courage and truth, not silence or excuses.

According to him, this is the time to move forward and begin what he described as a process of reclamation.

He said it is also the moment to speak clearly about what was lost and what must now be restored.

Recalling a lecture by Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, he said, “the conspiracy of silence has diminished the horror of what our people faced.”

The President revealed that Ghana has already served notice at the United Nations.

“This year at the UN General Assembly, I served notice that Ghana will move a motion next year to recognise the transatlantic slave trade as the greatest crime against humanity,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the motion will enjoy strong backing across Africa and the diaspora.

He said the continent has endured slavery, colonialism, genocide and apartheid, and must now demand acknowledgement of these crimes against humanity.

President Mahama said reparative justice must go beyond symbolism. He said Africa is demanding legal, institutional and international mechanisms to advance reparations.

He listed debt cancellation, monetary compensation, the return of stolen artefacts, institutional reform and transformative economic redress within the global system as essential elements.

He also pointed to the deeper scars left by slavery and racism. Citing studies on epigenetics, he said trauma can be passed down across generations.

He questioned the impact of centuries of abuse on the health of people of African descent and the well-being of their children. He asked how healing can truly begin without justice.

Quoting Ghanaian-British actress and writer Michelle Cole, the President said fear can either block progress or drive people forward. He urged participants to keep their eyes on the future, stressing that “the future is African.”

Reiterating remarks he made at the UN, President Mahama said Africa and its diaspora hold the power to change the consequences of the past.

He called for deeper unity, saying Africans must now be more intentional about togetherness than their oppressors were about division.
