In a sorrowful development, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has mourned the loss of a key member from the Sene East Constituency.

Chairman Wudonyim Ibrahim, a past parliamentary candidate for the NPP in the Sene East Constituency, has been announced as deceased.

This unfortunate news was verified by Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia in a post on Facebook. The flagbearer for the 2024 elections of the prominent opposition party expressed his disbelief at the unexpected death of Chairman Wudonyim Ibrahim. He offered his sympathies to the grieving family and the NPP community.

Ghana’s Minority Leader Questions Motives Behind Radio Station Reinstatement

0

Afenyo Markin
Afenyo Markin

Ghana’s Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has dismissed President John Mahama’s directive to restore 64 shuttered radio stations as politically motivated, calling the move “mere optics” during a parliamentary session on Thursday.

The critique follows the President’s order to reinstate outlets including Happy FM and Asaase Radio, which were closed by the National Communications Authority (NCA) for regulatory violations.

Afenyo-Markin challenged the administration’s coordination, noting: “The NCA and Ministry were clearly aligned in this action. Now the President says don’t do it. Where is the coherence?” He suggested the reversal appeared reactive to public criticism rather than principled governance. The stations were originally sanctioned for breaching Electronic Communications Regulations, with the NCA acting on ministerial directives.

President Mahama’s spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu had framed the reinstatement as balancing regulation with press freedom, instructing the Communications Ministry to establish a compliance timeline. However, the Minority Leader maintained the episode revealed governance inconsistencies, stating: “We’ve been in government before…this smacks of poor coordination.” The controversy highlights ongoing tensions between media regulation and democratic freedoms in Ghana’s pre-election climate.

AI, automation, and future of threat intelligence

0

Ray Kurzweil, a notable futurist, has said: “Our technology, our machines are part of our humanity.

We create them to extend ourselves and that is what is unique about human beings”, implying that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also an extension of human, created to assist simplify works.

This quote set the stage for an in-depth discussion on the revolutionary role of AI and automation in bolstering threat intelligence when I had the privilege of joining an esteemed panel at the Labadi Beach Hotel, Accra – Ghana as part of the CISO Summit 2025. The topic was “AI, Automation and the Future of Threat Intelligence”, and by extension the future of the workplace.

Session

Among others, the session explored how these tools are reshaping cybersecurity paradigms by bridging the gap between human ingenuity and data-driven precision.

Less than a century old, artificial intelligence (AI) has already undergone three waves of transformative development.

Today, it gives humanity the most powerful tools for analysing complex data, not only to find meaning but to learn without human intervention.

Clearly, AI is now acting and thinking like humans (but not yet human).

Evidently, AI has moved from experimental to essential, and permeating every area of our lives, including threat intelligence and cybersecurity in general.

LatexFoamPromo

AI and automation are helping us develop the ability to correlate tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) that enable quicker identification of threat actors and simulate attack scenarios.

Also, aids in developing defence strategies based on potential, current and future threat landscape, and attributing attacks through behavioural analytics and data comparisons, which significantly improves understanding of adversarial methods.

However, it is critical for the developing world to initiate steps towards domesticating AI by gradually developing our own use cases considering linguistics and peculiar practices.

This will facilitate better appreciation and the potential of the tool.

We need to simplify, invest and urgently start building capacity at both the individual and corporate levels.

Some key benefits of AI and automation in threat intelligence include but are not limited to:

• Speed: AI and automation can respond to threats much faster than manual intervention, reducing the window of opportunity for attackers.

• Efficiency: Automated systems can handle repetitive tasks such as patch management, log analysis, and vulnerability scanning without fatigue.

• Consistency: AI and automation ensure that responses follow a consistent process, reducing human error.

While speed, efficiency and consistency are desirable, it’s important to understand that AI and automation are not always perfect and can be prone to errors, especially when the data is not trained based on the expected outputs.

As we dive head-first into this uncharted territory, we need to keep our eyes wide open.

It is not just about the potential benefits and drawbacks, but also about how AI is going to continue to mould and reshape the workplace in ways we might not even imagine.

Excitement

It is, therefore, critical to look beyond excitement (sometimes the anxieties) and rather focus on becoming more conversant with the governing rules, ethical issues and the associated legal framework with data and AI.

And where there is little or none existing, we must initiate steps towards their development.

We must at all times balance safety and morality against speed and innovation.

Machines could do a great deal, but what they should do is the question we need to continue addressing.

Obviously, there is also the thorny issue of whether humanity is under threat, especially with the concern that AI could lead to significant job displacement across various sectors, impacting individuals and economies.

What readily comes to mind in response to the above sentiment is the second part of Ray Kurzweil’s statement “… we create them to extend ourselves and that is what is unique about human beings”.

I believe the world will just get better if we nurture and collaborate with machines and technology to solve problems.

Ultimately, AI will be our thought partner, not a replacement.

Let’s keep the debate running… cheers.

President Mahama petitioned to dismiss Rashid Tanko-Computer over alleged ‘fake’ PhD

0

A Ghanaian citizen and an advocate for good governance and social equity, Odeneho Kwaku Takyi has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to immediately dismiss the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Sofo Tanko Rashid-Computer for holding an alleged fraudulent PhD in Public Administration.

The doctorate degree was purportedly obtained in 2016 from an unaccredited “Kingsnow University (https://kingsnowuniversity.com/)” in the United States of America.

According to him, this grave situation does not only represent a significant breach of public trust and a scandalous act of academic fraud, but also directly contravenes the fundamental principles enshrined in the 1992 Constitution and Code of Conduct 2025 for public officials (promulgated by your very good self) and other laws of the Republic of Ghana.

The petitioner disclosed that several weeks of comprehensive investigation into “Kingsnow University” has yielded no credible evidence of its legitimacy as an accredited academic institution neither in the USA or any other pan of the globe.

He noted that, more intriguing is the fact that, despite its self-promotional website (httoS://kingsnounniversitv COW) and (ms://www,coocic.com/search?crkintsnowuniversimwordnrcss.com ) claiming to be a “prestigious provider of accredited online degrees,” and short courses, the following critical facts demonstrate its fraudulent nature:

He further observed that “Kingsnow University” is conspicuously absent from all authoritative databases of recognized and accredited universities in the United States, including those maintained by the US Department of Education (USDOE) (wwwednov ) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) awarding body databases such as the UK’s Hedd.ac.uk and the International Association of Universities’ World Higher Education Database (WHED) (v.%w.whed.net ). confirm that “Kingsnow University” does not exist in any world records as a legitimate academic institution.

“Based on these findings, it is unequivocally clear that any degree, particularly a PhD, obtained from “Kingsnow University’ is not academically credible or legitimately recognized by mainstream academic and professional standards. The fundamental value of a doctoral degree is intrinsically linked to the recognized accreditation of the issuing institution, without which the credential is null and void.” the peition said.

The petitioner, popularly known as Sir Obama aside demanding the dismissal of Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer is urhing the president to drect the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to conduct investigations into his Bachelor’s and Postgraduate Degrees

Direct the appropriate law enforcement agencies, including the Ghana Police Service and the Attorney General’s Department, to commence immediate criminal prosecution against Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer under the relevant sections of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). and any other applicable laws.

Implement stringent verification processes for all current and future public appointees’ academic qualifications to prevent such occurrences in the future and to safeguard the integrity of public office.

Apply the full force of Section Six of the Code of Conduct 2025, which outlines measures against violations, ranging from formal reprimand to termination of appointment. Given the severity of this academic fraud and false representation. termination and subsequent prosecution arc the appropriate courses of action.

This petition follows a June3, 2025 letter from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GITEC) to Tanko Computer directing him to cease the immediate use of the Doctor title — after discovering the opaqueness of his [Tanko’s] PhD credentials.

Read below the full petition

I, Odeneho Kwaku Takyi, a citizen of Ghana, and an advocate for good governance and social equity, respectfully write to you with profound concern and a solemn appeal for justice and accountability within our public service and governance architecture.

My petition addresses the deeply troubling revelation that one of your appointees, Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer (alias Dr. Tanko Computer), the current Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), holds a fraudulent PhD in Public Administration, purportedly obtained in 2016 from an unaccredited “Kingsnow University (https://kingsnowuniversity.com/)” in the United States of America.

This grave situation does not only represent a significant breach of public trust and a scandalous act of academic fraud, but also directly contravenes the fundamental principles enshrined in the 1992 Constitution and Code of Conduct 2025 for public officials (promulgated by your very good self) and other laws of the Republic of Ghana.

Detailed Findings on “Kingsnow University”:

Several weeks of comprehensive investigation into “Kingsnow University” has yielded no credible evidence of its legitimacy as an accredited academic institution neither in the USA or any other pan of the globe. More intriguing is the fact that, despite its self-promotional website (httoS://kingsnounniversitv COW) and (ms://www,coocic.com/search?crkintsnowuniversimwordnrcss.com ) claiming to be a “prestigious provider of accredited online degrees,” and short courses, the following critical facts demonstrate its fraudulent nature:

Absence from Official Accreditation Listings: “Kingsnow University” is conspicuously absent from all authoritative databases of recognized and accredited universities in the United States, including those maintained by the US Department of Education (USDOE) (wwwednov ) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) awarding body databases such as the UK’s Hedd.ac.uk and the International Association of Universities’ World Higher Education Database (WHED) (v.%w.whed.net ). confirm that “Kingsnow University” does not exist in any world records as a legitimate academic institution. Based on these findings, it is unequivocally clear that any degree, particularly a PhD, obtained from “Kingsnow University’ is not academically credible or legitimately recognized by mainstream academic and professional standards. The fundamental value of a doctoral degree is intrinsically linked to the recognized accreditation of the issuing institution, without which the credential is null and void.

You may have also become aware of the June3, 2025 letter from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GITEC) to Tanko Computer directing him to cease the immediate use of the Doctor title — after discovering the opaqueness of his [Tanko’s] PhD credentials.

Violations of the Code of Conduct 2025:

Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer’s presentation of a fake PhD constitutes a direct and egregious violation of the Code of Conduct 2025 for Ministerial and Public Appointees. Specifically, his actions breach:

1.1 Ministerial Conduct (page 11): This section requires ministers and all political appointees to act honestly and ensure their actions can withstand the closest public scrutiny. Misrepresenting academic credentials fundamentally undermines honesty and integrity. •

1.2 Statement of Ethics (page 12): This section explicitly mandates appointees to act honestly, uphold truthfulness and transparency, and perform duties in a manner that preserves public confidence and trust in the integrity, objectivity, and impartiality of government. A fake PhD directly violates these ethical obligations. •

1.5.11 Discipline, Diligence & Professionalism (page 27): This section requires appointees to act with diligence and integrity and to refrain from deliberately misleading the public on any significant matter related to their official functions. Presenting a falsified academic qualification is a clear act of deliberate misinformation and a severe breach of integrity. Applicable Ghanaian Laws and Potential Criminal Offenses: Beyond the Code of Conduct, Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer actions fall under serious criminal offenses under Ghanaian law, subjecting him to legal prosecution. The relevant laws and sections include:

Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29): o Section 131: Defrauding by false pretence. Presenting a fake PhD to secure or (www.chea ore ). For the avoidance of doubt. both bodies maintain “positive lists” of accredited institutions, and “Kingsnow University” is not found in association with any recognized accrediting body.

Characteristics of a Diploma Mill: The institution’s online presence, with its vague claims of “flexibility,” “widc range of disciplines,” and emphasis on “technology-driven education, mirrors the modus operandi of known diploma mills—entities that sell degrees with little to no academic rigor.

Lack of Mainstream Recognition: There are no mainstream news articles, academic references, or listings in reputable global university rankings or directories that acknowledge “Kingsnow University.” This consistent absence is a hallmark of fraudulent academic providers.

No Existence in World Records: My checks, including searches on recognized degree- maintain a high-ranking government position like CEO of GIFEC is a clear act of defrauding by false pretence, as it involves obtaining a benefit (the appointment) through false representation.

Sections 158 and 159: Forgery. Rashid Computer created or used a forged PhD certificate; of which this section concerning the forgery of official or other documents with intent to defraud would apply.

Section 166: Possessing forged documents. He possesses and presented a document he knew to be forged, with intent to defraud. and as such this section is applicable for his removal. o Section 20: Abetment of a criminal offence. Any individuals who assisted him in obtaining or using the fake PhD could be liable for abetment.

Public Service Regulations and Codes of Conduct: As a public appointee. Rashid Computer is also subject to internal disciplinary actions under the broader Code of Conduct for Public Officers (enshrined in Chapter 24 of the 1992 Constitution) and specific regulations governing the public service. Misrepresentation of academic qualifications constitutes a serious breach, warranting disciplinary action, including dismissal.

Call to Action:

Your Excellency, the integrity of our public service and the confidence of the Ghanaian populace in government institutions arc at stake. Allowing an individual to hold a critical public office such as the CEO of GIFEC based on fraudulent academic credentials sets a dangerous precedent and erodes public trust.

I, therefore, respectfully but firmly petition your esteemed office to: 1. Immediately DISMISS from office Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer as CEO of GIFEC

2. Initiate a thorough and transparent investigation into how this fraudulent qualification was accepted and whether any other public appointees under his supervision or within GIFEC may also hold unverified or fake credentials.

3. Direct the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to conduct investigations into his Bachelor’s and Postgraduate Degrees

5. Implement stringent verification processes for all current and future public appointees’ academic qualifications to prevent such occurrences in the future and to safeguard the integrity of public office.

6. Apply the full force of Section Six of the Code of Conduct 2025, which outlines measures against violations, ranging from formal reprimand to termination of appointment. Given the severity of this academic fraud and false representation. termination and subsequent prosecution arc the appropriate courses of action.

It is my fervent belief that a swift and decisive action by the presidency in this matter will send a clear message that integrity, honesty, and accountability are paramount in Ghana’s public service. Conversely, failure to address this issue with the urgency and seriousness it demands would further undermine public confidence and tacitly condone academic fraud.

I eagerly await your decisive action to uphold the rule of law and protect the sanctity of our public institutions.

Thank you.

NCA clamps down on 62 defaulting radio stations… but President Mahama

0

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George, to liaise with the National Communications Authority (NCA) to immediately restore the broadcast licence of 64 radio stations affected by the regulator’s action.

He said regulatory compliance must take into account the need to uphold and enhance media freedom, and asking radio stations to shut down while awaiting the regularisation of their authorisation could limit the space for expressing such freedoms.

President Mahama made the directive in a statement issued by the National Communications Authority (NCA) and copied to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.

Pleading for clemency for the affected radio stations, President Mahama said the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and NCA should work to ensure the affected radio stations complied with the licensing and operational requirements in the broadcasting sector.

He tasked the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation to work with the NCA on a reasonable timeframe within which the affected stations should regularise their authorisation.

The directive for the radio stations to suspend operations, followed an order by the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation to NCA to enforce applicable sanctions on stations whose licenses have not been regularised.

It comes on the back of a recent audit conducted by the NCA which found the affected radio stations’ licenses have been expired and not renewed.

Following the directive, the NCA commenced enforcement of regulatory sanctions against defaulting entities identified in the Frequency Audit Report in phases.

The NCA directed the non-compliant FM Broadcasting Stations to immediately suspend operations on their respective frequencies for various infractions.

According to the NCA, the enforcement action had become necessary due to persistent violations of regulatory requirements, specifically Regulations 54 and 56 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991) and the Conditions of their FM Broadcasting Authorisations

Radio Stations Closure: ‘We take Mahama’s clemency with a pinch of salt’

0

The Minority Leader has questioned Mahama' clemency granted to 64 radio stations that were shut down The Minority Leader has questioned Mahama’ clemency granted to 64 radio stations that were shut down

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has questioned President John Dramani Mahama’s 30-day clemency granted to the 64 radio stations that were shut down by the National Communications Authority (NCA) for various breaches.

Delivering a statement on the floor on Thursday, July 12, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Effutu stated, “These are things that are done for the optics when the political system sees that there is a backlash. We take the clemency with a pinch of salt.”

He further condemned the actions of the National Communications Authority (NCA), and the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, noting that they do not align with the 1992 Constitution.

“Freedom and independence of the media are hereby guaranteed, subject to this constitution and any other law not inconsistent with this constitution, there shall be no censorship in Ghana, there shall be no impediments to the establishment of private press or media, and in particular, there shall be no law requiring any person to obtain a license as a prerequisite to the establishment or operation of a newspaper, journal or other medium for mass communication,” he noted.

The Minority Leader recalled that during the Eighth Parliament, Samuel Nartey George opposed ministerial interventions in such matters and warned against penalties imposed without constitutional basis.

“I am saying that the respected honorable minister must not change his principles by virtue of his new position of honour. He fundamentally agrees that we must uphold the constitution. So, let’s not justify this attitude of shutdown,” he noted.

Afenyo-Markin emphasised that administrative engagement should be the path forward.

“Why should XYZ Radio be denied the opportunity to broadcast? Why should Wontumi FM and Happy FM be taken off air? If we are to uphold the constitution, we cannot justify actions that gag the media,” he added.

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation to liaise with the NCA to immediately restore the broadcast of sixty-four (64) radio stations affected by the regulator’s action.

He stressed that forcing stations off air while they await the regularisation of their authorisation risks undermining the country’s democratic tenets.

On June 12, 2025, the NCA, ordered the immediate closure of 64 radio stations for various regulatory breaches.

The affected stations included Asaase Radio and Wontumi FM.

Ghana Government Announces Major Policy Shift in Rural Telephony

0

Minister Nartey George explained that this strategic move is aimed at fostering a more favorable business environment and allowing the private sector to drive growth where it can effectively operate.

The Ghanaian government has announced a significant and immediate policy shift in its approach to rural telephony, signaling a renewed commitment to private sector-led growth and reduced government intervention. The announcement was made by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), during the 15-year anniversary celebration of Helios Towers.

Under the new directive, the National Communications Authority (NCA)  and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC)  have been instructed to conduct an immediate audit of all rural telephony sites established in 2016. The core of this policy change lies in the government’s intention to decommission sites deemed “commercially viable,” thereby opening these areas for operation by commercial service providers.

Minister Nartey George explained that this strategic move is aimed at fostering a more favorable business environment and allowing the private sector to drive growth where it can effectively operate.

“The government is committed to creating a favorable business environment, emphasizing that businesses and entrepreneurs should drive growth.”

Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Ghana.

In a strong declaration, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP) proclaimed, “Ghana is open for business again.” This statement underscores the government’s renewed focus on attracting investment and promoting economic growth through increased private sector participation across the nation. The policy shift is expected to stimulate competition and potentially expand access to telecommunication services in rural areas through market-driven initiatives.

Volta Region to host new pharma project under MoU with Switzerland’s Lagap SA

The agreement provides a framework to facilitate access to Lagap’s products in Ghana The agreement provides a framework to facilitate access to Lagap’s products in Ghana

Ghana’s Volta Region is poised for a major pharmaceutical and scientific breakthrough following a strategic engagement between Council of State member Gabriel Tanko and Swiss pharmaceutical company Lagap SA.

Speaking at the Global Parliament of Mayors Annual Summit in Braga, Portugal, Tanko revealed that he, alongside his wife, Patricia Awoonor—popularly known as Mama Nyaxorladeakorla I of Anlo—used the global platform to attract key development partnerships for Ghana.

A standout moment from the summit was their engagement with Lagap SA in Bellinzona, Switzerland.

The pharmaceutical company, established in 1959, is renowned for its high-quality medicinal products, which are distributed in over 25 countries.

Some of its flagship products include Librocol (for heart conditions), Exfortan (for metabolic health), d-Mannosa (for urinary care), Apixan, Fosfolag, Sitalag, and Irona.

Tanko disclosed that discussions with Lagap SA management focused on establishing a scientific research centre in the Volta Region, with a long-term vision of developing a full-scale pharmaceutical production plant.

This initiative aligns with the region’s growing reputation as a hub for health and research, being home to the prestigious University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).

“We believe the Volta Region is ripe for such a partnership,” Tanko said. “Not only will this make essential medicines more accessible and affordable, but it will also create sustainable jobs, support our young scientists, and energize the local pharmaceutical industry.”

The engagement culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tanko’s office and Lagap SA.

The agreement provides a framework to facilitate access to Lagap’s products in Ghana and lays the foundation for future collaborations in scientific research and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Patricia Awoonor, who also attended the summit as a traditional leader and development advocate, played a key role in the diplomatic and business discussions.

“This is a significant opportunity for our region and our country,” Tanko emphasized. “I remain committed to ensuring this partnership brings real and lasting impact to our people.”

Ramesh Viswashkumar’s Survival: A Rare Confluence of Instinct, Luck, and Physics

News Hub Creator55min

The survival of Ramesh Viswashkumar in the tragic crash that claimed over 290 lives is not a case of divine intervention. No higher power selectively spares one life while allowing so many others to perish.

His escape was the result of quick thinking, extraordinary luck, and a rare fluke of physics. Positioned near the emergency exit, Ramesh recognized the plane was going down, opened the door, and jumped.

By that moment, the aircraft had already descended close to the ground and significantly reduced speed. His fall became marginally survivable—perhaps cushioned by grass, shrubs, a sloped surface, or even concrete that met him at just the right angle. In rare cases, the human body doesn’t break; it bends, absorbs the impact, or simply gets lucky.

Surviving a crash of this scale requires every factor to align in an almost impossibly perfect sequence—and once in a million times, they do.

We thank God for his life

A New Era for Media Freedom in Ghana

0

In a significant move that has drawn both praise and scrutiny, President John Dramani Mahama has extended a grace period to radio stations recently affected by shutdowns enforced by the National Communications Authority (NCA) of Ghana. This decision marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing conversation about media freedom and regulatory practices in the country.

The NCA had previously imposed shutdowns on 64 radio stations, citing various compliance issues related to licensing and operational regulations. These actions raised alarms among media professionals and advocates for press freedom, who argued that the closures were politically motivated, particularly targeting stations perceived to be critical of the government. One notable casualty of these shutdowns was Radio Gold, a station closely affiliated with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). The station was shut down during the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, prompting considerable backlash from media stakeholders.

On June 12, 2025, the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation announced a 30-day suspension of enforcement actions against the affected radio stations. This reprieve, which came at the directive of President Mahama, allows these stations the necessary time to regularize their operations and address compliance issues under the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775) and its accompanying regulations (L.I. 1991).

The Minister of Communications emphasized that the President’s decision aims to balance regulatory oversight with the imperative of preserving media freedom. “This grace period is intended to ensure that our media landscape remains vibrant and diverse,” the Minister stated.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, prominent Ghanaian broadcaster Bridget Otoo lauded President Mahama for his decision, suggesting that such leniency would not have been afforded under the previous administration. “Only President John Dramani Mahama would do this,” Otoo remarked. “I wish Radio Gold and other stations that were shut down during the erstwhile administration had been given the same grace… Thank you, sir.”

Her comments reflect a broader sentiment among media professionals who have long expressed concerns about the state of press freedom in Ghana. The previous government’s actions against critical media outlets had been perceived as an attempt to stifle dissent and control the narrative surrounding its policies.

The extension of this grace period is seen as a potential turning point for media freedom in Ghana. Many advocates argue that a healthy democracy thrives on a free press, and the ability of media outlets to operate without fear of arbitrary shutdowns is crucial for holding power accountable.

The NCA’s previous actions had ignited discussions on the balance between regulatory enforcement and the rights of media entities. Critics voiced concerns that the regulatory framework was being wielded as a political tool rather than a mechanism for ensuring compliance.

As the 30-day grace period unfolds, the spotlight will be on the affected radio stations and their ability to meet the required licensing criteria. This moment also provides a crucial opportunity for the NCA to re-evaluate its approach to media regulation, fostering an environment where freedom of expression is prioritized alongside compliance.

Bridget Otoo’s remarks resonate deeply within the media community, highlighting the importance of leadership that prioritizes democratic values. As President Mahama’s directive is implemented, it remains to be seen how it will impact the media landscape in Ghana and whether it will usher in a new era of collaboration between regulators and media entities.

In conclusion, the grace period extended by President Mahama represents not just a temporary reprieve for the affected radio stations but also a hopeful sign for the future of media freedom in Ghana. The unfolding events will undoubtedly be closely monitored by both supporters of press freedom and those wary of the implications of regulatory oversight.

Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg, Professor Robert Ebo Hinson, has emphasised the importance of branding, marketing and research as key strategies to boost Ghana’s agribusiness sector.

Speaking during the Citi Business Festival session on X Spaces (formerly Twitter) with Channel One TV/Citi FM’s Head of News, Vivian Kai Lokko, on Thursday, June 12, Prof. Hinson said agribusiness ventures must begin with the end goal in mind and adopt a holistic approach to their operations.

“Understand the whole ecosystem. Consumer choices, demands and leverage technology by improving efficiency in the value chain,” he advised.

“Embark on deliberate strategies such as trade fairs and certification to increase productivity.”

He stressed the need for world-class communication and the use of branding as a tool to stand out in a competitive market.

He also called for agribusinesses to prioritise customer experience, proper packaging, and labelling to enhance credibility.

“Those rushing into agribusiness must get good marketing people to promote their produce. Use social media apps to promote. We need to support those in agribusiness by branding their base and learning from other countries,” he stated.

Prof. Hinson also encouraged research-backed decision-making, noting that farmers should be guided on what to grow based on market needs, targeting both international and local markets.

He added that adopting appropriate marketing and channel strategies can help optimise opportunities right from the farm gate.

“Marketing is crucial to agribusiness. Branding and customer experience directly shape customer perception and trust,” he concluded.

10 Best Planet of the Apes Characters (And Three Are Human)

0

Planet of the Apes is a film franchise that’s approaching 60 years with 10 films total, and several reboots, some more questionable than others. The first Planet of the Apes was a satirical dystopian science-fiction story about astronauts discovering a planet where apes are the dominant and intelligent species while humans are reduced to uncivilized and savage animals. After the first film adaptation was a massive success, it kickstarted a franchise that would falter after five movies, eventually leading to the disastrous 2001 reboot starring Mark Wahlberg.

However, time was on the side of the apes as a decade later, the franchise was revived with an epic trilogy. Rise of the Planet of the Apes kickstarted the new series in 2011 as a summer crowd-pleaser, making way for two more films, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 2014 and War for the Planet of the Apes in 2017. Utilizing motion capture technology, the films were able to give us incredible characters and visuals, leading to multiple Academy Award nominations and another film in the series, 2024’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

With an extensive history and multiple movies, there’s a lot to choose from, but here’s a list of the 10 best characters across the entire Planet of the Apes film franchise.

10) Will Rodman

Though he’s only in the first film, Will Rodman (James Franco) was a pivotal character. He’s the pharmaceutical chemist who created ALZ-112 to treat Alzheimer’s. When tested on chimpanzees, the treatment worked and gave them increased cognitive abilities. After Caesar was orphaned, Will took him in and raised him with his father, Charles Rodman (John Lithgow). Together, they cared for and nurtured Caesar and instilled in him a love for humans. That love is what kept him from turning fully sinister like Koba (Toby Kebbell), a chimpanzee who was abused and disfigured by humans and now hates them. Will continued fighting for Caesar after he was taken to the primate enclosure, and he loved Caesar enough to let him go to his new home when he led the ape uprising. Caesar’s childhood home window became the symbol of the revolution, and Caesar carried the lessons he learned from Will into the legacy he built.

9) Bad Ape

Steve Zahn brings a fantastic and fun innocence to the new Apes trilogy as Bad Ape, a sheltered and abused chimp Caesar takes under his wing in War for the Planet of the Apes. Bad Ape brings much-needed levity and humor to the dark and serious war. While the other primates are strong or intelligent, Bad Ape brings a unique personality to the film with a lot of heart. As a chimp with a more innocent perspective, we see the war through a unique set of eyes. He stops Caesar from giving too much into his animal side. Bad Ape gets scared when Caesar becomes aggressive, and he serves as a reminder of the future Caesar is fighting for—a future where all apes can live together without fear.

8) Taylor

George Taylor (Charleton Heston), the protagonist of the original Planet of the Apes, crashes on a planet after waking up from cryogenic sleep. After exploring the terrain he is shocked to discover a world where humans are caged and wild animals run free. He is a pivotal character, as he is the only human the apes have met who can speak. Despite his treatment by the apes, George finds it in himself to trust the likes of the Chimp scientist Zira, with that trust in one another proving vital to his escape and survival.

Taylor’s intense conviction of believing he’s on another planet makes the final twist and reveal more shocking as he sees the Statue of Liberty destroyed on the beach, confining that he was on Earth the whole time and giving us one of the most classic and iconic lines in cinematic history.

7) Dr. Zaius

An orangutan who hates humans and blames them for the downfall of society, Dr. Zaius (Maurice Evans) was the first in a long line of powerful antagonists in the Planet of The Apes franchise. The original Planet of the Apes is a commentary on culture, with the apes split into different groups with different jobs. While the orangutans are regarded as the most morally superior of the species, presiding over laws and judgment, Dr. Zaius’ morals are corrupt and clouded by hate and judgment. He paved the way for a future of both apes and human villains who share his blind hate and righteousness.

6) The Colonel

Woody Harrelson’s Colonel was an intense adversary to Caesar in War for the Planet of the Apes. He was strong and ruthless, with a contempt for apes that clouded his judgment and reason. Harrelson’s performance raised the bar for the central conflict in the new trilogy, as his tactics of turning apes against their kind strongly divided them, with that division lasting long after his death. The Colonel’s character is a grim reminder of the age-old conflict of Man vs. Nature and how actual progress and peace are found in the balance between the two, not in their destruction.

5) Zira

Dr. Zira (Kim Hunter) first appeared in the original Planet of the Apes, but would become a major character across its sequels. As a psychologist studying humans, she is an outspoken advocate for the human species and shows the most humanity in a world of apes. She showed great empathy, intelligence, and understanding for the humans and aided in their escape. Humans would have remained in a cold, dark, and scary world without her.

4) Raka

Raka (Peter Macon) is another orangutan, appearing in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. As a historian he’s kept the story of Caesar alive, carrying on his messages. He teaches Noa about the legacy of their kind and grows to be a mentor to him. In a world where people are the minority, Raka shows great understanding and compassion to the human they find on their journey, even sacrificing himself to save them. Raka strongly believed in a world where humans and apes can live and work together in harmony, which is a teaching that Noa takes as he continues to lead his kind into the future.

3) Maurice

Maurice (Karin Konoval) was an orangutan and right-hand ape to Caesar. He was the first primate friend Caesar made when he was surrendered to captivity and helped Caesar lead the apes in the revolution. Maurice was a great confidant and guide to many characters throughout the trilogy and always helped maintain Caesar’s faith in humanity. Throughout the films, Maurice proved to be a vital strategist in both battle and governing.

2) Noa

Noa (Owen Teague) was the lead Ape of the newest film in the series, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Set several generations after Caesar’s death, where ape societies have grown and become divided, Noa sets out to rescue his clan after they’ve been abducted by Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand). Noa is curious and naive, a reflection of how Caesar started, and like Caesar, he shows respect and kindness for the human survivors, who have now lost the ability to speak. By the end of his journey, Noa proves to be a compassionate and strong leader, working with apes and humans like Caesar would have.

1) Caesar

Of course, Caesar takes thhe #1 spot, without him, there would be no revolution. Andy Serkis’s motion capture performance ironically portrays Caesar’s complicated character from infant to leader in across the reboot trilogy of movies. His arc across the three films shows Caesar growing from a baby to a well-respected leader, leading the apes to paradise by balancing the love of his kind with the respect he still holds for humanity. He’s a staple of the series that now casts a long shadow, one that future installments may never be able to live up to.

Apology Rejected — The Law Must Take Its Course

0

President John Dramani Mahama has firmly declined an apology offered by New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, signaling his unwavering commitment to seeing legal proceedings through to their conclusion. Mahama’s decision comes amid growing political and legal controversy surrounding Wontumi, who is currently under investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for alleged financial improprieties.

Insider sources indicate that senior NPP figures had attempted to broker peace between the two prominent political rivals. In a bid to de-escalate tensions, they reportedly encouraged Mahama to accept Wontumi’s apology following a series of inflammatory statements the Ashanti Regional Chairman made about the former president. However, Mahama has maintained that the matter must be resolved through judicial means rather than backdoor negotiations, emphasizing the principle that no individual should evade accountability through informal settlements.

Chairman Wontumi has come under fire not only for his controversial public remarks but also for his financial dealings, which have led to EOCO intervention. The outspoken NPP figure was briefly detained and questioned over suspected financial misconduct, further complicating his position within the party. While some believe the investigations are politically motivated, others view them as unrelated to his comments and centered on legitimate concerns over fiscal management.

Reactions from the political community have been mixed. Some NPP members, including MP Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, have publicly criticized Wontumi’s rhetoric, acknowledging that his statements crossed the line. There are reports that several party officials even considered issuing a collective apology to Mahama, recognizing the need for damage control.

Prominent journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has also weighed in, arguing that the matter should be handled strictly by the courts. He cautioned against using political influence to derail due process, insisting that such actions could undermine the credibility of Ghana’s legal institutions.

Although Wontumi has been released on bail, the EOCO investigation is still active, and the possibility of formal charges remains. Legal analysts suggest that the outcome of the case could carry significant consequences for both Wontumi’s future within the NPP and his broader public image.

Mahama’s refusal to accept the apology underscores a strong message: justice must take precedence over political convenience. As the case unfolds, it may reshape political accountability standards in Ghana and test the resilience of both legal institutions and political alliances.

A 36-year-old notorious armed robber, Stanley Afaku, who attacked a security guard at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional hospital in Sekondi at gun point, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.

The Sekondi circuit court presided over by Her Honour Naa Amberley Akowuah, convicted Afaku, a Nigerian, after he pleaded guilty to the offence of robbery.

During the ruling, the judge ordered that Afaku should be deported by the Ghana Immigration Service after completing his jail term.

His accomplice, Samuel Nickson alias Egya Acquah, who is already facing another charge of robbery, denied the offence and was remanded into police custody to come before the court again on June 24, 2025.

This was in a press statement signed by Superintendent of Police Olivia Awurabena Adiku, Head, Public Affairs Unit, Western Region, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Takoradi.

On February 23, 2025, Afaku and Nickson held Nash Arthur, a security guard at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional hospital in Sekondi at gun point, tied him with his own shirt and stole his mobile phone.

The statement said the two then proceeded to the hospital’s Out-Patient Department (OPD) pharmacy, where they made away with a Flat-screen television set.

Following intelligence, Afaku, was arrested in Esiama Bafana ghetto on June 4, 2025, admitted the offence, and mentioned Nickson as his accomplice, the statement added.

“Go And Sack Her” —Asiedu Nketiah Told Following His Message To Mahama About The EC

0

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia has called on President John Dramani Mahama to initiate urgent reforms at the Electoral Commission, including the removal of its Chairperson, Jean Mensa. His remarks follow the NDC’s return to power after Mahama’s victory in the 2024 general elections.

Appearing on Onua TV’s Maakye program, the outspoken party leader, popularly known as “General Mosquito,” expressed serious concerns about the EC’s ability to conduct credible elections, describing the Commission under Jean Mensa’s leadership as “a complete mess.”

“The Commission in its current form is dysfunctional. Everyone sees it,” Asiedu Nketia stated. “Even the declaration of results is marred by confusion. You can’t shift figures from Volta Region to Greater Accra and expect people to trust the system.”

He emphasized that the problems facing the EC go beyond technical or administrative challenges, accusing its leadership of undermining the electoral process through actions that threaten the integrity of Ghana’s democracy.

“If we’re truly committed to democratic principles and the rule of law, then we need institutions that reflect that. This Electoral Commission, unfortunately, does not,” he added.

Asiedu Nketia’s comments reflect a broader demand within the NDC and among civil society organizations for reforms at the EC, following years of controversy and mistrust under its current administration. The party has consistently argued that the Commission lacked impartiality and failed to ensure fair competition, particularly during the 2020 and 2024 election cycles.

Now with Mahama back in office, pressure is mounting on his administration to restore confidence in Ghana’s electoral systems ahead of future polls.

Galamsey cases must be fast-tracked – Ken Ashigbey appeals to Judiciary

0

Ing. Kenneth Ashigbey

The CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Dr Ken Ashigbey, has urged members of the judiciary to expedite trials related to illegal mining, also known as galamsey, which continues to wreak havoc on Ghana’s environment.

Addressing a capacity-building workshop in Takoradi for Circuit Court Judges and Magistrates from the Western, Western North, and Central Regions, he stressed the need for swift judicial action to counter the growing environmental crisis.

The workshop, jointly organised by the Ghana Chamber of Mines and the Judicial Training Institute, aimed to strengthen judicial understanding of the legal frameworks governing mining. Dr Ashigbey called on judges and magistrates to treat mining-related offences with the seriousness they deserve.

“The devastating effects of galamsey are plain to see. Polluted rivers, devastated farmlands, severe health and medical predicaments, and shuttered communities, among others. We are at a critical juncture where the urgency of combating illegal mining cannot be overstated. It’s our collective responsibility to act swiftly and decisively,” he said.

He expressed concern over the slow pace of legal proceedings, which he argued undermines both environmental protection and public trust in the judiciary.

“Yet, justice often arrives too slowly, and in some cases, we don’t see the matter being adjudicated to serve as an effective deterrent.

“We, therefore, call on the judiciary to prioritise and expedite mining-related cases, especially those involving environmental degradation and breaches of licensing regulations.

“Justice delayed in this matter is not merely justice denied, but it’s national development destroyed and public confidence eroded,” Dr Ashigbey added.

He further noted that such engagements allow the judiciary to better understand the implications of illegal mining and refresh their knowledge of applicable laws.

The Chamber, he said, remains committed to supporting the judiciary through collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

The initiative, he stressed, forms part of broader efforts to build resilience within the legal system against environmental abuse.

Also speaking at the event, His Lordship Justice Tanko Amadu, a Justice of the Supreme Court and Director of the Judicial Training Institute, called on the courts situated within Ghana’s mineral-rich areas to play a central role in safeguarding the country’s natural wealth.

“The constitutional foundation against which Acts 703, 995, and 1036 must be applied. The constitutional imperative is clear: we are custodians of legal accountability in the extractive sector and stewards of justice where the rights of communities, the state, and private investors intersect,” he remarked.

Ghana government to review national pensions scheme

0

President John Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has said that the government will soon carry out a national pensions scheme review as part of efforts to address challenges.

He said the government would meet the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and organized labour on the issue of pensions.

President Mahama made the disclosure during a courtesy call on him at the Presidency in Accra by a Delegation of the Ghana Association of Teachers (GNAT) led by its Secretary-General, Mr Thomas Tanko Musah.

The GNAT leadership was at the Presidency to congratulate President Mahama on his resounding victory in the December 7, 2024, general election.

President Mahama recalled that during the May Day Celebration, issues were raised by the TUC on the need to take a second look at pensions.

“I can see that, GNAT, you are very happy with how your things are going, but several other unions are not too happy,” the President said.

He noted that government and stakeholders could hold a review conference on pensions.

“It’s several years since we brought the pension reform. I think it’s time for us to do a review and see what is working well and what is not working well, so that we can make adjustments and let everybody feel happy about it,” he said.

President Mahama expressed his sincere gratitude to GNAT for their relentless efforts to help shape the future of the nation and for the good investments made by the Association.

He assured the GNAT leadership of his unwavering commitment and that of his government to prioritise improving the working and living conditions of all teachers.

“Our teachers are the bedrock of Ghana’s education system and essential partners in nation-building,” President Mahama said.

“Ensuring they are well-compensated, work in conducive environments, and have access to professional growth opportunities is not just a promise but a fundamental necessity for national progress.”

Mr Thomas Tanko Musah, the Secretary-General of GNAT, on behalf of the Association, congratulated President Mahama on his decisive victory in the December 7, 2024, polls.

He said Ghanaians spoke clearly during the December 7th elections and that GNAT believed that with the help of God, President Mahama would be able to fulfill all the campaign promises he had made to the people of Ghana, particularly the teachers.

Mr Musah extended an invitation to President Mahama to be the special guest of honour at the GNAT National Delegate Congress slated for the first week of January 2026 in Accra.

Mr Kwame Pianim, an eminent economist and a Consultant to GNAT, described President Mahama as an exceptionally responsible leader with a listening ear.

He said President Mahama was the only person, who could reset Ghana in this time of the nation’s history.

Young Apostles coach sparks controversy with bold claims on bribery in Ghana Premier League

0

Coach William Affoakwa of Young Apostles has ignited a firestorm in Ghanaian football following his explosive comments suggesting that coaches in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) have little real influence over the outcomes of matches.

Speaking on Sikka FM’s 730SPORTS show, Affoakwa lamented the outcome and of matches are determined by club owners and match officials.

He alleged corruption, bribery, and manipulation within the league, suggesting that powerful team owners and compromised match officials, rather than tactics and coaching, are the ones determining results.

“We the coaches in the Ghanaian Premier League are just following the team, for it is the team owners and referees that are playing the matches.”

Affoakwa’s remarks come at a time when public trust in the GPL remains fragile, especially following past scandals like the 2018 “Number 12” exposé by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which implicated dozens of football officials in corruption.

The GFA is yet to officially respond to the coach’s comments.

Asiedu Nketia Sends Message To Mahama About The Removal of Chief Justice Torkornoo

News Hub Creator1h

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has sent a message to President John Dramani Mahama about the ongoing issue involving the suspended Chief Justice of Ghana, Her Ladyship Gertrude Torkornoo.

Speaking on Onua TV show on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, Mr. Asiedu Nketia stated that the investigation into the Chief Justice should be taken seriously. He said Ghana’s democracy will grow stronger if leaders follow the laws in the constitution, no matter who is involved.

He told President Mahama not to be afraid of international pressure or criticism from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). He argued that no country or foreign group will defend a Chief Justice if it is proven that she broke the law. According to him, a survey done before the December 2024 elections showed that most Ghanaians had lost trust in the judiciary. For this reason, he believes it is right to investigate the Chief Justice if there are serious allegations against her.

Mr. Nketia also warned that if the people who brought the petition lied, they must be punished. But if what they said is true, then the Chief Justice does not deserve to stay in office. He added that the judiciary must be independent and trustworthy, especially for investors and business people who want to do business in Ghana.

President Mahama suspended Chief Justice Torkornoo after a committee found enough reason to start an investigation. She tried to stop the process by going to the Supreme Court, but her request was rejected.

Six persons busted over alleged fake one million dollars discharged

0

Six persons who were busted and arraigned over alleged fake one million dollars at Abokobi, have been discharged by an Accra Circuit Court.

The trial Judge, Mrs Susan Eduful, discharged the accused because the court lacked jurisdiction over the matter.

The accused are Abdel Razak Djidonou, a 44 -year-old Consultant, Simon Mbillam, a property agent, Mohammed Ibrahim, a 62-year-old contractor, Prince Pius, a 44-year-old businessman, George Bonsu, a 64-year-old driver and Chief Toni Silas, a 53-year-old businessman.

One Dr Jamal, another suspect, is at large.

The accused charged with conspiracy to commit crime and forgery, uttering or possession of forged notes had their pleas preserved because investigations were ongoing.

Accused persons’ counsel, Mr Andrew Vortia, prayed for bail for the accused persons after recounting to the court how his clients had been subjected to facial and body injuries.

The facts before the court are that complainant is a Ukrainian businessman.

On June 8, 2025, the Police received information that some National Security Operatives had arrested the accused persons for possessing one green trunk and a “Ghana must go” bag with forged dollars.

The accused persons were handed over to the Police together with the exhibits (forged dollar notes).

During investigations, it was found out that the accused persons conspired and lured the complainant from Germany to Ghana under the pretext of offering the forged dollar notes which they claimed amounted to one million dollars for the complainant to airlift to Austria for investment.

The accused persons are alleged to have charged and received payment of $10,000 as “appointment fee” from the complainant.

After receiving the money, the accused persons convened a meeting at their warehouse at Abokobi with the complainant.

Luck eluded them when the National Security Operatives arrested them.

Over GHC80 million mobilised by MMDAs in first quarter of 2025

0

Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo

Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) within the Greater Accra Region collectively mobilised over GHC80 million in internally generated funds (IGF) during the first quarter of 2025.

The figure represents 23 per cent of the total budgeted revenue for the year.

This was disclosed by Madam Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, Greater Accra Regional Minister, at the first meeting of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) held in Accra on Thursday.

The meeting brought together all 29 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Presiding Members, representatives from the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), the Regional House of Chiefs, Civil Society Organisations, and heads of departments and agencies.

Leading the revenue mobilisation effort was the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly, which raised GHC8.4 million, representing 38.5 per cent of its annual budget.

Ayawaso North recorded the least mobilisation with GHC316,643.66, representing 19.8 per cent of its annual target.

“These revenues generated internally are complimented by funds transferred by Government for development needs.

“The intentions of the Government concerning the release and use of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) have been made clear by the Finance Minister,” Madam Ocloo said.

She mentioned that the first quarter allocation of the DACF was ready for release but subject to the submission of MMDAs’ 2025 Budgets and Work Plans.

Over 80 per cent of released funds are earmarked for project implementation and development needs.

The Minister urged all Assemblies to adhere strictly to the Cabinet-approved guidelines for DACF utilisation.

“The RCC as part of our monitoring exercise for the year would track the receipt and use of the fund according to the guideline, so take note,” she added.

On innovation, Madam Ocloo commended some Assemblies for adopting cashless systems to improve transparency and encouraged others to implement digital platforms to enhance revenue collection and accountability.

To ensure consistency and progress, the RCC will hold quarterly review meetings with MMDCEs to assess performance, resolve bottlenecks, and share best practices.

The Minister reminded members that the 2026–2029 Medium-Term Development Plans (MTDPs) were due for submission to the NDPC by June 30, 2025, and emphasised that subsequent budgets must align with interventions captured in these plans.

Touching on decentralisation, she expressed concern that sub-district structures such as Sub-Metro Councils, Zonal, Urban, Town, and Area Councils are inadequately resourced, reducing them largely to revenue mobilization units.

“These Units at the base of the decentralization system could be a very great structure for dissemination of information and provision of development.

“Most of these structures have been limited to revenue mobilization units instead of fully decentralising several services to them to perform,” she said.

According to RCC monitoring data for the first quarter of 2025, out of 372 projects being implemented across MMDAs in the region, 207 had been completed—though some carry outstanding debts and expenditures—while 165 projects were either ongoing or abandoned.

The Minister urged Assemblies to prioritise completing existing projects before initiating new ones, in line with the DACF utilisation directive.

Participants praised Madam Ocloo for her leadership and committed to supporting efforts to improve revenue mobilisation and accelerate development within their respective Assemblies.

Sad News Hits Chairman Wontumi

0

The National Communications Authority (NCA), under direction from the Ministry for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, has ordered the immediate suspension of broadcasting operations for Wontumi FM, Asaase Radio, and over 60 additional radio and television stations across Ghana. The move follows a comprehensive national audit revealing widespread licensing violations.

Among the defaulters are major outlets including Wontumi FM and the Asaase Broadcasting Company group—covering Asaase FM in Accra, Kumasi, Tamale, Cape Coast, and Pa—alongside its affiliates such as Bawku FM, Bead FM, Mining City Radio, Nandom FM, Stone City, and Wale FM. These stations were found to have either failed to renew their frequency authorisations, neglect statutory fee payments, or omitted essential documentation, resulting in the automatic expiry of their licenses under Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775).

The Ministry explained that the infractions were identified in the wake of a recent licensing audit, prompting a directive to the NCA to halt illegal transmissions without delay.

The crackdown extends beyond licensing issues. Gumah FM in Bawku was also shut down on February 11, following serious national security concerns. Intelligence suggested the station’s programming was inciting regional tension, leading to its immediate suspension under Section 13(1)(e) of the same Act.

Minister Sam George emphasized that enforcement action was imperative to protect public order and restore integrity to Ghana’s airwaves, signaling further regulatory measures to follow. “Enforcement of the directive is immediate,” he affirmed, urging all broadcasters to ensure strict compliance to avoid similar outcomes.

The sweeping enforcement action has prompted concerns from media watchdogs such as the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), which warns that swift station closures—even under legal mandate—could risk due process and media fairness. They have called for greater transparency and clearer regulatory oversight.

Affected stations remain offline as the NCA continues its thorough audit. The Ministry has pledged to share further updates as investigations progress. Broadcasters are being urged to regularise their licences fully—or face permanent shutdown.

Sisters serving migrants and refugees at Ghana’s border

0

As West African migration routes shift, Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC) are delivering frontline support to displaced communities in the Aflao Ghetto, one of the most overburdened informal settlements in Ghana.

By Sr. Agnes Mercy Nyatsoe, SMMC

Sr. Mary-Consolata Serwah Ntenye’s journey began with a calling to serve the marginalized and vulnerable. It brought her to Aflao, a border town in southern Ghana and a key entry point for migrants and refugees. There, the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC) launched the Migrants and Refugees Outreach Program.

Located near the Togo-Ghana border, Aflao hosts a growing number of refugees from countries including Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Togo. The Aflao Ghetto has become both a place of refuge and hardship, marked by limited access to healthcare, education, and basic services.

The SMMC program addresses these needs with practical support. As coordinator, Sr. Mary-Consolata has led initiatives focusing on healthcare, education, and livelihoods for displaced people.

Healthcare access is a key priority

“Many refugees and migrants lack medical care, a problem worsened by unstable living conditions,” she said.

She works with local clinics and volunteers to provide free consultations, essential medications, and education on preventive health and early childhood care.

Education as empowerment

Sr. Mary-Consolata has helped establish learning programs for children, adolescents, and adults in refugee and migrant communities. These aim to prepare children for formal education and equip adults with employable skills.

She also collaborates with local schools to ensure refugee children are not excluded from the education system.

A voice for human rights

Beyond services, the program advocates for the rights of migrants and refugees. Sr. Mary-Consolata speaks out against exploitation, discrimination, and denial of legal protections.

Her work highlights the challenges displaced people face and the protections they are entitled to under international law.

The initiative also receives support from the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, which provides funding for work with marginalized populations.

Community cohesion

The program promotes unity between refugees, migrants, and the local Ghanaian community. Dialogue and joint projects aim to reduce tension and build social cohesion.

Sr. Mary-Consolata’s efforts focus on sustainable development, helping individuals become self-reliant and participate actively in society.

Challenges ahead

Despite progress, the program faces constraints. “The growing number of refugees and migrants has strained resources,” Sr. Mary-Consolata said.

Limited funding, poor infrastructure, and instability in the region complicate efforts. Still, she remains committed to expanding the outreach and finding new ways to respond to the needs on the ground.

I Am Really Sorry, Go and Withdraw the Case from the Court” – Agradaa’s Apology to Gifty Adorye

News Hub Creator20h

Agradaa Says Sorry—But Is It Real or Just Legal Strategy?

In a twist no one saw coming, Nana Agradaa has issued a teary apology to Empress Gifty and her husband, Hopeson Adorye. The same Agradaa who once dared Gifty to “face the consequences” if she didn’t drop her GH₵20 million defamation suit is now asking for forgiveness—in a video, no less.

This feud has been messy, dramatic, and headline-grabbing. For months, it’s been a war of words between the former “sika gari” priestess turned evangelist and the gospel star. Then came the lawsuit, and Agradaa responded with defiance… until now.

Her latest video shows a different side—tears, regret, and a plea for peace. But not everyone’s buying it. Is it a heartfelt apology or a calculated move to avoid the financial fallout of a drawn-out court case? Many on social media are torn: some feel for her; others call it damage control.

Here’s the thing—an apology doesn’t wipe out a lawsuit. Gifty and her lawyers will still have to decide if this changes anything. Do they drop the case and let it end here? Or do they push forward to prove a point about public accountability?

Either way, this saga is far from over. Agradaa’s apology has stirred the pot again, but only time will tell if it’s enough to calm the storm—or just the calm before the next wave of drama.

The New Life of Hopeson Adorye After Leaving the NPP

News Hub Creator25min

After his controversial exit from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hopeson Adorye has embarked on a new political and personal journey that has reshaped his public image. Once a loyal member of the NPP and a key voice within its communication ranks, Adorye was expelled from the party in November 2023 for openly supporting Alan Kyerematen’s independent presidential bid under the Movement for Change. He later confirmed the expulsion, stating boldly that not even “$100 million” could convince him to return to the NPP.

Following his departure, Adorye has become a leading figure in the Movement for Change, aligning closely with Kyerematen’s vision to break the NPP-NDC duopoly. He has since used radio platforms to criticize the NPP’s handling of the 2024 elections, even mocking their “Thank You” tour as a “Tantrum Tour.” In 2025, he stated that he would quit politics entirely if the NPP ever scored more than 28% in any future election, showing clear confidence in the changing political landscape.

Aside from his political reinvention, Adorye has also faced legal challenges. In May 2024, he was arrested and later granted bail over a false publication charge after claiming dynamite was used in the Volta Region during the 2016 elections. Despite the controversy, he described the experience as strengthening and has reportedly embraced a new spiritual path, with reports indicating he has become a born-again Christian.

Hopeson Adorye’s post-NPP life reflects a blend of defiance, reinvention, and transformation. From fiery critic to reform advocate, his journey continues to influence conversations about Ghana’s political future.

Six persons arrested over alleged fake $1m discharged

No revenue was generated from Emissions Levy

0

Deputy Minister of Finance, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has disclosed that the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration did not implement the Emissions Levy, despite securing parliamentary approval for it.

Addressing Parliament on Thursday, Mr. Nyarko explained that although the legislative groundwork for the levy was completed, practical challenges hindered its rollout, resulting in no revenue being collected.

“The act imposes an emissions levy on carbon dioxide equivalent emissions from specified sectors, internal combustion vehicles, and provides for related matters. Although the legal framework was put in place, the actual operationalization of the levy faced implementation delays. As a result, no revenue was generated from the levy under the previous administrations,” he stated.

His comments come in the wake of Parliament’s decision on March 26 to repeal both the Emissions Levy and the Betting Tax. The move was widely welcomed by businesses, individuals, and industry stakeholders who had raised concerns about the financial strain these taxes placed on operations and livelihoods.

The Emission Levy was introduced as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote environmental sustainability, met strong resistance—particularly from vehicle owners and business operators—who argued that the policy increased their cost of living and doing business.

Ghanaian Tiktoker and Blogger Shoots and Kills Girlfriend, Victim Family Cry Out

News Hub Creator1d

The family home of GH Kobby’s late girlfriend has been plunged into mourning following her tragic death. The Ghanaian blogger’s partner, known as Philippa, also called Yaa Baby or Yaa Yaa, passed away under heartbreaking circumstances.

Emotional videos circulating on social media show her grieving relatives in deep sorrow, wailing after receiving the devastating news.

Among those captured reacting to the tragedy were her grandparents and a woman identified as Richlove, who claimed to be Philippa’s sister. Richlove shared her pain in the video, explaining how the family learned of Philippa’s death and alleging that she had been with Kobby for a week prior to the incident.

In the footage, Philippa’s grandmother accused GH Kobby of intentionally shooting her as part of a money ritual, although no evidence was provided to support the claim.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 10, 2025—a day that turned tragic for GH Kobby, some of his friends, and Philippa. Reports suggest that the group had travelled to a local community in Yeji after attending the funeral rites of the late Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II. It was there that GH Kobby allegedly discharged a firearm, accidentally shooting Philippa in the left arm after retrieving a gun from his luxury vehicle to fire warning shots.

He is said to have rushed her to St. Martin’s Hospital, where she sadly passed away shortly after arrival.

IMF backs GH¢1 Fuel Levy as key to Ghana’s fiscal recovery

0

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has endorsed Ghana’s Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy, describing it as a strategic measure aligned with the country’s fiscal goals under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme.

The levy, which imposes a GH¢1 charge per litre on petroleum products, is aimed at addressing long-standing debt and financial shortfalls in the energy sector.

Speaking at a press briefing, Julie Kozack, Director of the IMF’s Communications Department, said the revenue measure will play a crucial role in helping Ghana tackle structural issues in the sector while supporting broader fiscal reforms.

“On the fuel levy, what I can say is that this is a new measure that will help generate additional resources to tackle the challenges in Ghana’s energy sector, and it is also going to bolster Ghana’s ability to deliver on the fiscal objectives under the programme,” she said.

The levy has drawn criticism from the Minority in Parliament, who argue that it adds to the cost burden on already struggling consumers.

However, the government insists the impact on consumers will be marginal, pointing to current fuel prices at the pump, which it says remain lower than in previous high-inflation periods.

An agreement between the government and the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies has pushed back the implementation date of the levy from June 9 to June 16, 2025.

In the meantime, energy sector stakeholders—including the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers—are urging government to use the extension period to deepen engagement with affected parties and improve transparency around the levy’s use.

Wontumi Communications Speaks after NCA Shutdown: “Don’t Worry Your Heads

0

Wontumi Communications has responded to widespread reports suggesting the National Communications Authority (NCA) has ordered a shutdown of its operations. The media company, which operates Wontumi Radio and TV and is known for its outspoken political content, issued a strongly worded statement addressing the controversy while reaffirming its commitment to continue broadcasting.

In a release titled “Ahomasoɔ 24/7—Our Voice, Our Spirit, Our Resilience,” the company denied claims that it had been permanently silenced. It emphasized that the matter was being addressed through official channels and reassured its audience of its continued presence. The tone of the statement conveyed defiance and confidence, underlining the station’s dedication to free expression and democratic values.

“We remain committed to serving the people with undiluted truth, bold analysis, and unshaken loyalty to the democratic spirit of Ghana,” the release stated. The message concluded with a reaffirmation of the station’s guiding principle—Ahomasoɔ, or unyielding courage.

The situation appears to be linked to regulatory concerns, with reports indicating licensing and content compliance issues. However, no formal confirmation has been provided by the NCA. In response to the uncertainty, supporters of the station have flooded social media with messages of solidarity and frustration. Many expressed strong emotional attachments to the station’s programming, especially its sports and political segments.

Prominent contributors and presenters have also spoken out. Sports analyst Obrempong Kwaku Ampomah described the network as a powerful voice for the public, while political commentator Maame Afia Nyarko made a direct appeal to regulators during a livestream, urging fair treatment and warning against silencing independent voices.

As the standoff unfolds, the public’s reaction underscores the station’s influence. For many Ghanaians, Wontumi Communications represents more than media—it symbolizes resilience and a refusal to be silenced.

He Told Us He Could Arrest the Dollar, But Ended Up Messing Everything- Bempah Fires DMB Again

0

Deputy National Communication Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah has slammed Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia for failing the party, calling colleague party supporters to consider Kennedy Agyapong as the best alternative for the party in the coming election cycle.

Speaking on NET2 TV, Owusu Bempah said Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia promised to make the country better by stabilising the cedi but ended up messing the entire economy.

“You came and assured us that you had the right people — people who could manage the economy and stabilize the cedi, even claiming you’d hand over the keys to the IGP. But we all saw how things turned out. Moving forward, it’s crucial that we carefully consider the kind of leaders we choose and the type of practical leadership we truly need.” He said.

Owusu Bempah further gave reasons why Kennedy Agyapong is the better option for the NPP party, arguing that he understands the facets of the Ghanaian economy and better positioned to lead the NPP to victory in 2028.

“We should be very careful with the choice of leaders we take. It is very fundamental as we prepare to come in 2028. The kind of practical leader we want to take. We should take people like Kennedy Agyapong who knows every facet of the economy.

He has sold PK before, he has been a fish washer and has ran almost all kinds of businesses. If you put such a man in the helm of affairs, he will only view things from practical perspective. For me, if we will need leadership, the choices that will make and unmake us as a party.

Kennedy Agyapong works practically. NPP we stand as elitist and intellectual party with pragmatic ideas to develop this country and we need someone like Kennedy to champion it. No one ever thought NDC could manage the cedi to this level” he said.

Govt to build modern markets in all districts to support 24-hour economy

0

The Minister for Local Government, Sanitation, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has announced the construction of modern markets across the country to support the 24-hour economy initiative.

According to him, every district will be required to build a modern market to enhance commercial activity.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, Ahmed Ibrahim expressed confidence in the feasibility of the 24-hour economy.

“What we are doing in every district is identifying the commercial centres. Once that is done, we can allocate 25% of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to GHC 24 million annually towards developing these commercial hubs.

“The plan includes building schools nearby so farmers can have their children in school while they work in the markets. There will also be fire and police posts to respond to emergencies such as fires or theft. Our focus on the 24-hour economy goes beyond just providing electricity,” he stated.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the policy, described by the government as a game changer, is ready and will take effect from July 1.

The 24-Hour Economy Policy, a flagship initiative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under then-flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, aims to keep the country’s economy running around the clock, with a focus on production, service delivery, agriculture, and manufacturing.

Atletico Madrid have handed a golden ticket to 17-year-old Taufik Seidou Zanzi Awudu , naming the Ghanaian wonderkid in their squad for the Club World Cup. It’s the kind of breakthrough moment that could launch a brilliant career.

The teenager has been turning heads at Madrid’s training ground for months. Born in Accra but raised in Spain since he was nine, Seidou has that perfect blend of raw Ghanaian talent and Spanish technical polish that makes scouts go weak at the knees.

His coaches rave about his finishing ability, how he shields the ball, and his football brain. These qualities shine even when he’s up against seasoned pros.

GRNMA strike crisis: Mortuary workers warn of space shortage amid rising death toll

What makes this lad special isn’t just his skill on the pitch. He’s featured for Spain’s Under-17 side, yet he’s still got his options open when it comes to international football. Ghana will be keeping a close eye on him, hoping he’ll eventually choose to represent the Black Stars rather than La Roja.

The path to first-team football at Atletico is never easy. Diego Simeone doesn’t hand out chances lightly. But Seidou has already shown he can handle pressure, making his Youth League debut at just 15 under club legend Fernando Torres.

This Club World Cup could be make-or-break time. Atletico kick off against PSG on June 15, 2025, then face Seattle Sounders before wrapping up the group stage against Botafogo. For Seidou, it’s a chance to show he belongs on football’s biggest stage.

If he grabs this opportunity with both hands, don’t be surprised if we’re talking about him in the same breath as Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal before too long.

Ghana hasn’t produced a midfielder this exciting in years, and the world is starting to take notice.

Government to undertake massive retooling of Police Service – Mahama

0

Government will soon undertake a massive retooling of the Ghana Police Service to provide the tools and logistics needed to fulfill its mandate.

President John Dramani Mahama made the disclosure on Tuesday when he inaugurated a 10-member Police Council under the chairpersonship of President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

He urged the members to serve with distinction.

The President commended the police management team for the successes they had chalked recently in the fight against armed robbery, and also the collaboration with their Nigerian counterparts in apprehending the kidnappers in Nigeria and bringing the Ghanaians victims safely back home.

He lauded the Police for their apprehension of the killers of some mobile money merchants in Kumasi, Koforidua and Aflao.

He noted that the arrest of the suspects in the Nsawam Sandpit killing was also very much appreciated.

“Despite these successes, there is much more to do. You must use top-grade police intelligence gathering to unravel some of the many high-level murders that have remained unsolved,” the President said.

“You must also track down and arrest the gunmen who freely assassinate unarmed civilians in some of our conflict areas.”

The President said the Government would soon mount a massive exercise across the country to light up the nation’s cities.

“We will install street lights in all major urban centers across the country. This will light up the country and assist you in your fight against crime at night.”

He said one could not speak of reforms without addressing the welfare of officers; saying “Our officers cannot give their best when they are demotivated, when they are underpaid, when they are poorly dressed, poorly housed, or working in substandard conditions.”

“This Council must lead the conversation on improving the conditions of service for all personnel, from logistics and accommodation to pensions and psychological support”.

President Mahama said the welfare of officers must be central to every policy the Police Council reviews or implements.

“Morale is not just about monetary incentives, it is about fairness, it is about recognition, institutional respect. Officers must see a clear path for advancement, free from favouritism, and grounded in merit,” he said.

The President assured the Council of his support.

“Dear Council Members, The future of Ghana depends on the strength of its institutions”.

“When institutions work, hope flourishes. When institutions fail, disillusionment takes root. We are a resilient people. Despite our challenges, economic, political, or social, our collective will to build a better Ghana remains unshaken,” he said.

The President urged the Council to let its work to send a signal to every corner of the country that “fairness still matters, that justice still lives, and that Ghana was still worth believing in.”

“As President, I once again pledge my full support to this Council. You will have my ear at all times when you speak,” he said.

“I will support you to uphold justice, and the government will back you when you act to restore order, and the gratitude of the Ghanaian people will follow you when your decisions reflect fairness, integrity, and courage.”

President Mahama urged all arms of Government, institutions, oversight institutions, and civil society to work in concert with the Police Council.

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, on behalf of Members of the Police Council, expressed gratitude to the President for the confidence reposed in them.

She pledged to lead the Council with transparency, inclusivity, and a deep respect for the rule of law.

Ghana ranks 8th among Africa’s top 10 manufacturing countries; 1D1F initiative earns praise

0

Ghana has climbed to the 8th spot among Africa’s top 10 manufacturing powerhouses. The African Exponent, a respected source for business insights on the continent, highlights Ghana’s steady rise in its latest report.

Over the years, Ghana has shifted its industrial focus toward value-added manufacturing—especially in agriculture and cocoa—and the results are paying off. The “One District, One Factory” initiative continues to energize the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises across the country.

Major brands like Kasapreko and Fan Milk now carry Ghana’s manufacturing label beyond its borders, strengthening the country’s global footprint.

South Africa leads the continent in manufacturing, with Egypt and Nigeria taking second and third place respectively. Morocco, Kenya, Algeria, Ethiopia, Tunisia, and Zambia round up the top ten.

The report praises South Africa for maintaining its spot as Africa’s most industrialized economy. The nation drives production in key sectors like automotive, steel, chemicals, and food processing—thanks to robust infrastructure and international partnerships.

Meanwhile, Egypt rides on strong exports to Europe and the Middle East. With thriving industries in cement, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and petrochemicals, Egypt continues to dominate through consistent industrial reforms.

With Ghana rising steadily on the continent’s industrial map, the future of local manufacturing looks promising.

Former Member of Parliament for Adentan, Kojo Adu-Asare Former Member of Parliament for Adentan, Kojo Adu-Asare

Former Member of Parliament for Adentan, Kojo Adu-Asare, has expressed deep frustration over developments within the party that he believes undermine cohesion and could threaten the peace within the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking passionately during a panel discussion on Asempa FM on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, an emotionally charged Kojo Adu-Asare revealed that the Deputy Women’s Organiser for the Adentan Constituency—who played a crucial role in the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections—has been sidelined since the party assumed power.

According to him, despite her tireless efforts that contributed to winning both the parliamentary seat and the presidency for John Dramani Mahama, she has not received any appointment or support from the government.

Making matters worse, Kojo Adu-Asare disclosed that the woman’s husband, a staff member of the Ghana Maritime Authority, was dismissed from his position after the elections. He lamented that efforts to intervene on the family’s behalf have so far been unsuccessful.

“This hurts me to my core,” Adu-Asare stated. “The woman worked day and night during the elections. And today, not only has she been ignored, but her husband has also been sacked and remains unemployed. They are both at home, struggling. This is not good news for anyone who believes in rewarding loyalty and hard work.”

He further alleged that some elements within the party are aware of the situation but have failed to take action. “We have made interventions, and we have been told, to our faces, that he cannot be employed. This hurts,” he emphasized.

While acknowledging that there may be underlying factors, Adu-Asare warned that continued silence on such issues could deepen divisions within the party.

“In politics, sometimes you need to be quiet and observe how things unfold,” he remarked. “But let it be known that it is not because some of us are afraid. If we decide to speak out fully, it will be messy. For now, we are using wisdom to contain ourselves.”

The former MP’s comments have sparked concern among grassroots members and political observers, who fear that unresolved grievances could undermine internal unity ahead of future elections.

We Had No Involvement in What Happened-Military crackdown in North East Region Leaves civilians Hosp

0

A recent surge in violence in Ghana’s North East Region has taken a serious turn, with a military crackdown reportedly leaving multiple civilians hospitalized and raising fears of widespread human rights violations. According to Ghana Web, military personnel have aggressively targeted residents in Walewale, Kukua, and Loagri within the West Mamprusi Municipality during several distressing incidents.

The crackdown came in response to a bus being set on fire by unidentified individuals on February 12, 2025, an act that appears to have sparked the harsh military reaction. Nevertheless, locals claim that innocent people have been unfairly caught in the backlash.

“We had nothing to do with what happened; we were just unfortunate to be there at the wrong time,” said a Walewale resident who preferred to remain unnamed for safety reasons.

The timeline of violent events includes January 14, February 12, and February 13, with numerous reports describing arbitrary beatings, unjust arrests, and terror imposed on whole communities, including women and children.

This incident adds to a concerning trend of government-endorsed force in the area. Human rights advocates are warning that without proper oversight, such military interventions could further inflame conflicts and deepen mistrust between the security forces and local populations.

Although the military asserts that their actions are essential for maintaining national security, calls for transparency and responsibility are gaining momentum. Community leaders and civil society organizations are demanding urgent inquiries and pushing for safeguards to ensure the protection of innocent civilians during security operations.

Communities affected by the crackdown are still coping with the aftermath, both physically and mentally. The North East remains a volatile region where the questions of justice, military restraint, and state accountability continue to loom large.

During his tour of the examination centres, Mr. Shaib interacted with candidates, offered words of encouragement, and expressed confidence in their potential to excel.
