Business Leaders Demand Regulatory Reform to Unlock Ghana’s Private Sector Potential

0

Seth Adjei-Baah

Ghana’s economic future depends on transforming public sector agencies from regulatory obstacles into development partners, business leaders and policy experts have warned following research showing compliance costs consume up to 40 percent of enterprise revenue.

Seth Adjei Baah, former president of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Peter Bismark Kwofie, executive director of the Institute for Liberty and Policy Innovation, are leading calls for comprehensive reform of Ghana’s regulatory framework to support rather than stifle entrepreneurial growth.

The concerns gained prominence at ILAPI’s High-Level Business Regulatory Dialogue held in Accra on November 27, where research findings revealed the crippling impact of regulatory burdens on micro, small and medium enterprises that account for 92 percent of Ghana’s businesses and contribute nearly 70 percent to national GDP.

Baah argued that government agencies must recognize their role as partners in national development through private sector support rather than adversaries making business operations difficult. He emphasized that education, clear guidance and hands-on assistance are crucial for entrepreneurs to flourish within legal frameworks.

The former GNCCI president highlighted how excessive fines and convoluted regulations push businesses into the informal economy, depriving government of legitimate tax revenue while undermining enterprise sustainability. Drawing from his experience as former board chairman of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Baah cited examples of hoteliers facing exorbitant compliance fees that sometimes force closures.

Baah stressed that regulatory bodies should act as mentors and guides helping businesses comply rather than simply enforcing rules punitively. He urged officials to work directly with enterprises at operational sites to ensure proper procedures are followed from the start.

ILAPI’s ten-month research conducted between 2024 and 2025 surveyed 600 MSMEs across manufacturing, ICT and tourism sectors. The findings paint a stark picture of regulatory dysfunction that threatens Ghana’s development trajectory and drives young entrepreneurs to seek opportunities abroad rather than invest domestically.

Kwofie warned that Ghana’s current regulatory landscape, characterized by excessive costs, unpredictability and complexity, actively stifles entrepreneurship, deters investment and limits opportunities for youth. He stressed that clear, simple, predictable and efficient rules enable business success while excessive, inconsistent and costly regulations slow innovation and reduce investment.

The research revealed that the average MSME spends 1,030 cedis to register a business, 1,275 cedis to secure permits from metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies, and up to 10,100 cedis to acquire necessary licenses. Some firms reported costs reaching 20,000 cedis for full compliance.

Beyond direct expenses, delays compound the burden significantly. The study found that 40.8 percent of MSMEs waited more than a month to receive registration certificates despite official timelines of 14 working days. Those avoiding middlemen known as goro boys waited even longer, sometimes six months or more, effectively creating what researchers termed a tax on formal entrepreneurship.

ILAPI identified job creation impacts as particularly alarming. If businesses spend 30 percent of working capital or profits on regulatory compliance, each enterprise loses the ability to employ at least three additional workers. With over one million MSMEs operating in Ghana, this translates to a potential loss of three million jobs annually.

The research also revealed that 57.3 percent of surveyed MSMEs were operating without required licenses at the time of the study. Kwofie explained that regulatory burdens have become so heavy that many businesses prefer remaining invisible to avoid compliance costs, undermining revenue mobilization and weakening investor confidence.

Manufacturing firms must navigate 13 separate laws and agencies while tourism and ICT businesses face lengthy lists of sector-specific approvals. Agencies including the Environmental Protection Agency, Food and Drugs Authority, Ghana Standards Authority, Office of the Registrar of Companies, Ghana National Fire Service, Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority, MMDAs, Ghana Tourism Authority and Public Health Authority often have overlapping mandates.

This institutional fragmentation leads to duplicative inspections, conflicting instructions and repeated payment demands that drain enterprise resources. Young people who spend years saving up to 10,000 dollars increasingly choose to fund migration abroad through dangerous routes rather than establish businesses in Ghana where regulatory requirements can consume nearly 30 percent of startup capital.

Baah cited instances where businesses overwhelmed by unreasonable charges resort to informal arrangements with government officials simply to survive, while those insisting on following proper procedures often face closure. He argued the system makes compliance unnecessarily difficult while failing to generate intended revenues.

At the November dialogue, Senior Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah acknowledged government commitment to removing regulatory bottlenecks. She noted that entrepreneurs often rely on middlemen because many regulatory institutions remain difficult to reach or insufficiently visible to the public.

Jantuah stressed that despite the rise of digital platforms, more must be done to ensure inclusivity in business regulation. She emphasized that not all potential investors use social media and highlighted the need for direct engagement between regulatory bodies and business communities.

Kwofie called for greater collaboration, harmonized systems and seamless information sharing among regulatory bodies to improve the business environment. He warned that inefficiencies in the regulatory system slow investment inflows, weaken productivity and limit Ghana’s ability to drive economic integration and global competitiveness.

The ILAPI executive director emphasized that regulatory reform should not rest solely with government. Private sector must speak out, civil society must analyze challenges, and policymakers must listen and act. He urged reduction of administrative bureaucracy, elimination of duplicated requirements, and adoption of interoperability and automation with user-centered design guiding every digital reform.

The regulatory concerns emerge as government prepares its 2026 budget, with businesses hoping for concrete measures addressing compliance costs while maintaining necessary oversight. Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has committed to comprehensive VAT reforms and digitalizing tax administration, though critics argue broader regulatory reform beyond taxation remains essential.

Both Baah and Kwofie are united in their call for streamlined procedures, reduction in redundant fees, and proactive support from public agencies to ensure businesses can grow sustainably. Their vision encompasses creating regulatory systems that guide rather than punish commercial operations.

The average MSME takes seven to ten years to transition from micro to small enterprise status, particularly within ICT manufacturing and telecommunications sectors. This sluggish progression rate reflects how heavily Ghana’s regulatory apparatus slows business development and prevents most enterprises from reaching their full potential.

Business leaders maintain that Ghana risks slowing its own development trajectory if regulatory pressures continue unchecked. Young entrepreneurs are increasingly diverting capital toward migration abroad rather than investing in local enterprises, representing a significant loss of human and financial resources.

The insights from leaders like Baah and Kwofie underscore that Ghana’s economic future depends on fostering genuine partnership between government and business. A truly collaborative relationship where regulatory bodies support enterprise development rather than simply enforce rules is essential for unlocking sustainable economic growth and creating widespread job opportunities.

As Ghana pursues expansion of its private sector and seeks to unleash entrepreneurial potential, the call for regulatory reform grows louder. The transformation of public agencies from regulatory obstacles into active development partners represents not merely a desirable policy adjustment but a fundamental requirement for national economic progress.

Comedian Funny Face has shared memories from his time at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, a revelation that has stirred sympathy among many Ghanaians.

The actor, who has faced mental health challenges in recent years, recounted his experiences as part of his effort to educate the public about what he went through during his recovery.

Speaking on the Real Talk Podcast, he described life inside the facility and the reality of seeing others struggle with personal battles.

Sell Funny Face’s house and get him a new place – Big Akwes tells Kwaku Manu

Funny Face recalled staying in a room with another patient whose emotional burden became evident every night.

“One of my mates at the psychiatric hospital was a very rich and responsible man. We were in the same room and shared a bunk bed, he was on the top and I was below because I met him there. Every day at 3 a.m., he would scream: ‘Oh Adwoa Serwaa, why?’ And you can’t laugh, even if it sounds funny,” he said.

He explained that the atmosphere at dawn in the facility felt heavy and unsettling, describing it as a moment many patients found difficult.

Media personality Avraham Ben Moshe, who was also on the podcast with Funny Face, disagreed with the idea that these moments were spiritual.

He explained that such feelings were common signs of mental health conditions that tend to intensify during quiet hours.

Funny Face’s mental health struggles have been public for several years, largely tied to his turbulent relationship with his ex-partner, Vanessa Nicole.

The couple, who share three children, separated after a period of conflict that seemed to push the comedian into emotional distress.

In the months that followed, Funny Face directed harsh comments at her and others, including public figures who had supported him.

His deteriorating state eventually led to treatment at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

Funny Face said he hopes Ghanaians will better understand the challenges people face with mental health and show greater compassion to those going through similar experiences.

Employment minister urges TUC to withdraw ultimatum on tariff hikes

Rashid Pelpuo is the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations Rashid Pelpuo is the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations

Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Rashid Pelpuo, has appealed to the Trades Union Congress (TUC) to rescind its ultimatum to government over recently announced utility tariff adjustments, urging labour leaders to pursue dialogue rather than confrontational tactics.

Dr Pelpuo cautioned that labour negotiations should not be framed as threats or rigid demands, especially on issues that require collaboration and compromise.

“That is not how we should conduct negotiations. When concerns arise, we shouldn’t issue ‘do this or else’ statements,” he said.

He stressed that government’s doors remain open for constructive engagement.

“Let’s understand your concerns, determine the challenges, and work together toward a common solution,” he urged.

PURC utility hikes undermine 9% salary increase – TUC decries

Dr Pelpuo called on the TUC to return to the negotiation table in good faith, adding: “The nature of our engagement must evolve.”

His remarks follow the TUC’s strong opposition to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) decision to increase electricity tariffs by 9.86 percent and water tariffs by 15.92 percent, effective January 1, 2026.

The union has demanded a review of the 9 percent salary increase negotiated for 2026, arguing that workers cannot endure higher utility costs under current economic pressures.

It has also threatened nationwide protests if government fails to reopen talks.

Dr Pelpuo, however, maintained that sustained dialogue is the only viable way to address workers’ concerns while safeguarding the financial health of utility companies.

Otto Addo backs Black Stars to compete in ‘tough but doable’ World Cup group

0

Otto Addo is the head coach of Ghana's Black Stars Otto Addo is the head coach of Ghana’s Black Stars

Ghana head coach Otto Addo says the Black Stars have every reason to remain confident after being drawn against England, Croatia and Panama in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking shortly after the draw in Washington, Addo acknowledged the scale of the challenge but insisted the path to the knockout phase is achievable.

“It’s a tough group, it’s doable. There are worse groups, to be honest. I’m happy, especially for our fans on the East Coast of the USA, that they will be able to see us. Also, for this I’m very happy,” he said.

Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on 17 June before meetings with England and Croatia. Addo believes a positive start could shift momentum in Ghana’s favour.

“Especially if we have a good start against Panama, from there we can continue,” he added.

His message reflects a balance of caution and ambition. Ghana are returning to the tournament after a strong qualification campaign, yet the group features two European powerhouses with deep experience in major competitions.

The expanded World Cup format offers more room to advance, with three teams from each group able to reach the new round of 32. Addo says Ghana must embrace the challenge.

The Black Stars travel to North America with a young and hungry squad, and their coach has made the first call: believe and fight from the opening whistle.

Sudan’s Khartoum needs ‘urgent’ help due to severe food shortages

0

The humanitarian crisis in Khartoum persists months after the army retook the capital from RSF force The humanitarian crisis in Khartoum persists months after the army retook the capital from RSF force

Ninety-seven percent of households in Sudan’s capital are facing food shortages, and the healthcare system has largely collapsed across the city, according to an assessment that reveals the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe gripping the war-torn country.

The report, released this week by the humanitarian organisations Medical Teams International and Norwegian Church Aid, found that three-quarters of families in Khartoum consume fewer than 1,800 calories daily.

Medical Teams International’s country director Birhanu Waka said the new data should guide efforts to restore health systems amid what he called “unimaginable hardship”.

The military recaptured Khartoum from the RSF in March, and the capital’s airport reopened for domestic flights in October.

The RSF still controls large areas of western Sudan, including all of Darfur, after they seized the city of el-Fasher in late October.

In the contested city of Babnusa in West Kordofan state, where fierce fighting erupted this week and the RSF said it now controls, conditions appear far worse.

The Sudan Doctors Network reported on Thursday that RSF forces in Babnusa have detained more than 100 families, including children and pregnant women, in dangerous conditions. The group said several detainees have faced beatings.

The United Nations issued an urgent warning on Thursday that Kordofan could face another wave of mass atrocities. UN human rights chief Volker Turk said history was “repeating itself” in the region following last month’s fall of el-Fasher, where early warnings went largely ignored.

British lawmakers were recently briefed that at least 60,000 people were killed in el-Fasher in just three weeks after the city fell to the RSF, The Guardian reported. As many as 150,000 residents remain unaccounted for.

The city remains a ghost town, according to satellite imagery shared by the Yale Humanitarian Research Lab, which has been monitoring the war.

The total death toll from Sudan’s war remains unclear, but estimates place it well more than 100,000, with nearly 12 million people displaced, according to UN figures. More than 24 million Sudanese now face acute hunger.

United States President Donald Trump has said his administration would lead efforts to end the conflict, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio calling Trump the “only leader in the world capable of resolving the Sudan crisis”.

Peace negotiations have stalled, however, as the RSF has continued attacks across the country despite announcing a unilateral ceasefire, while the army has called on the paramilitary group to retreat from territories it has captured.

Chic and Stylish Lace Trends for Ladies

Lace has long been a symbol of elegance, femininity, and sophistication in women’s fashion. Over the years, this timeless fabric has evolved from being reserved for special occasions to becoming a versatile style staple for modern ladies. Today’s lace trends are all about blending classic charm with contemporary designs that reflect confidence and individuality.

One of the standout trends in recent seasons is lace layering. Women are embracing lace blouses under blazers, lace-trimmed camisoles with denim, and even lace skirts paired with leather jackets for that perfect mix of soft and edgy. The result is a look that transitions effortlessly from day to night, exuding both grace and attitude.

Another popular style is colored lace. While traditional white and black lace will always remain timeless, modern fashionistas are exploring bold hues like emerald green, royal blue, and blush pink. These shades add vibrancy and personality to any outfit, making lace not only romantic but also expressive and fresh.

For those who love subtlety, lace accents and detailing are a must. The collection marks a significant evolution for the brand, which has built its reputation on structured silhouettes, executive-ready tailoring and a commitment to comfort, style and exclusivity.

Titled ‘The Thai Collection’, the new line draws from Thai, Indonesian related South-East Asian styles from the 1960s through the 1980s, merging vintage Asian influences with contemporary elements designed for today’s professional woman and man.

This year’s presentation moves beyond the social impact focus of Odefille’s 2024 Bambose collection, which featured textiles hand-painted by single mothers in northern Ghana. Instead, the 2025 showcase explores a more personal narrative. “This collection reflects that journey while staying true to our vision of empowering the modern executive through exceptional design,” Co-Creative Director Nadia Asantewaa Nkandobi stated.

She added that the collection allowed Odefille to explore elegance through a completely new cultural lens. “By drawing from Thai heritage while honouring the realities of womanhood, we wanted to create pieces that feel both globally inspired and deeply personal. Amoakohene sues Democracy Hub’s Wendell Yeboah over galamsey claims

0

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Wendell Nana Yaw Yeboah, a member of the pressure group Democracy Hub, over comments made on a live radio programme and later circulated on social media.

He has also filed separate suits against Aluta FM and its journalist, Agyaba Owusu, also known as Agyaba Kwaku.

According to the suit, the alleged defamatory comments were made on November 18, 2025, during the Anopa Koko Morning Show hosted by Agyaba Kwaku on Aluta 92.1 FM, a Madina-based station with a large online audience.

Court documents indicate that the first defendant, Wendell Yeboah, appeared on the programme and “falsely and with malicious intent” alleged that Dr. Amoakohene was engaged in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

The plaintiff says Yeboah made the remarks in both Twi and English, stating:
“Alright, mene wo kasa sesei, the Ashanti Regional Minister is into Galamsey,” and:
“Alright, as I speak with you right now, the Ashanti Regional Minister is into Galamsey.”

The minister argues that the allegations were made without evidence and were intended to tarnish his reputation.

The suit further accuses Aluta 92.1 FM of amplifying the claims by livestreaming the interview on its Facebook page and republishing the content.

Dr. Amoakohene also alleges that the station designed and distributed a promotional flyer that repeated the accusations.

He maintains that the publications caused significant reputational damage and exposed him to public ridicule.

The Ashanti Regional Minister is, therefore, seeking damages and a retraction of the statements.

The case adds to the broader national debate on illegal mining and political accountability, an issue that remains deeply contentious in Ghana.

Mr. Yeboah was released from police custody on Wednesday night, December 3, after spending a week at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). His arrest followed allegations he made on live radio, accusing three regional ministers of involvement in galamsey.

Those he named were Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey of the Eastern Region, Dr. Frank Amoakohene of the Ashanti Region, and Joseph Nelson of the Western Region.

His arrest was triggered by a formal petition to the CID by Mr. Daniel Sasu Omari and two others on behalf of the ministers, requesting a full investigation into the allegations.

Mr Agyekum said the government had rolled several interventions to boost agriculture including the distribution of fertilisers and the nkoko nketenkete programme.

Receiving the overall best farmer award, Mr Ampong who started farming in the Enchi area, appealed to the youth to go into agriculture for sustainable livelihoods.

He advised them to stop illegal mining activities and secure their future in agricultural activities.

Mr Ampong also charged traditional rulers to stem the galamsey menace which continued to wreck havoc on Agricultural productivity.

Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak is the Minister of Interior Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak is the Minister of Interior

Individuals who use online platforms to spread fear and panic have been warned by the Minister of Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, that security agencies now have the tools to track and apprehend them.

He issued the caution on December 5, 2025, in Ho, during the inauguration of the Volta Regional Command of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), where he joined President John Dramani Mahama to commission the new facility.

Highlighting the expanded regional presence of the NSB, Muntaka said it had strengthened national security operations.

Interior minister condemns attacks on security personnel, urges professional conduct

He noted that following the opening of the Eastern Regional Office in Koforidua in September, additional offices in Sunyani and Techiman are set to serve the Bono and Bono East regions. By the end of the year, four more regional commands are expected to be operational, bringing intelligence support closer to local communities and enhancing coordination among security agencies.

The new Volta Regional Command is equipped with advanced surveillance systems, analytical tools, and real-time data equipment. The facility will act as a hub for intelligence gathering and speed up security responses across the region.

Muntaka called on the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and Ghana Prisons Service to collaborate closely with the NSB, emphasising that security challenges cannot be handled by a single agency.

“To our citizens who use technology online and other means to create panic and fear, the time for you to stop is here. And I can assure you, we will come after you. You will have to stop or we will come after you. Now we have what it takes to track you, to observe what you are doing, to trace you wherever you are hiding,” he said.

He reassured the public that the upgraded systems are not meant to intrude on private lives.

“This facility is not to spy on you. It is to make sure every citizen goes about his or her duty without watching his or her back,” he stated.

Daddy Lumba’s Daughter Speaks –

0

Denise Lady Ama Saah Fosu

First daughter of late Highlife icon, Daddy Lumba, Denise Lady Ama Saah Fosu, has appealed to fans and the public to join the family in honouring her father as they prepare for his final funeral rites on  December 13, 2025.

Denise, who arrived in Ghana on 30 November 2025, recorded the message from the celebrated musician’s East Legon residence.

Dressed in mourning cloth, she sat beside an elderly family elder, with two of her younger siblings—children of Lumba’s second wife, Odo Broni—standing solemnly behind her.

Speaking on behalf of the entire family, she said, “Hello, my name is Denise Lady Ama Saah Fosu, the eldest daughter of the late Charles Fosu, also known as Daddy Lumba. I’m here, representing my entire family today. We would like to kindly invite you to my father’s funeral, which will take place on the 13th of December in Kumasi. We wish all well-wishers and mourners to join us to celebrate his life.”

The funeral date, originally announced for December 6, was recently pushed to December 13 following a crucial meeting at the Otumfuo Saamanhene Palace on November 10, 2025.

During the gathering, a new funeral committee—chaired by Dadiesoabahene—was appointed to oversee the arrangements and ensure a peaceful, well-coordinated ceremony befitting the stature of the late legend.

The meeting also saw Daddy Lumba’s sister, Ernestina Akosua Brempomaa, call for a postmortem, voicing concerns about possible foul play surrounding her brother’s death. She appealed for the burial to be delayed until the autopsy results are released to provide clarity and closure.

As preparations continue, Denise’s message echoes the family’s desire to unite fans, loved ones, and the nation in celebrating the extraordinary life, legacy, and music of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, fondly known as Daddy Lumba.

Ghana drawn against England, Croatia and Panama

0

Ghana’s Black Stars have been handed a tough but exciting group for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after being drawn alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

The draw was held in the United States on Friday, December 5, setting the stage for a thrilling group-stage contest when the expanded 48-team tournament kicks off across the USA, Mexico and Canada.

Ghana, making its fifth appearance at the global showpiece, will compete in Group L, where they will come up against two European heavyweights and a rising CONCACAF side eager to make an impression.

The headline fixture for many Ghanaian fans will undoubtedly be the clash with England, a team packed with Premier League stars and widely considered one of the contenders for the title. This will be the first-ever World Cup meeting between the two nations, sparking early excitement and debate among supporters.

Also standing in Ghana’s way are Croatia, the 2018 World Cup finalists and one of Europe’s most consistent performers on the international stage. Though their veteran core is expected to transition by 2026, Croatia remains a formidable opponent with strong technical quality and tournament experience.

The Black Stars will also face Panama, who return to the World Cup. Known for their physicality and disciplined play, Panama will be aiming to upset more established nations in the group.

The draw presents both challenges and opportunities for Ghana, whose youthful squad will be seeking to make a strong statement after missing out on the knockout stage in 2022. Many analysts see the group as competitive but navigable, particularly if the Black Stars are able to replicate the energy and resilience they have become known for on the world stage.

The 2026 World Cup will be the first to feature 48 teams and will be hosted across 16 cities in North America, making it the largest and most ambitious edition in the competition’s history.

As anticipation builds, Ghanaian fans at home and abroad are already buzzing, hopeful that the Black Stars can once again light up the world stage and push for a historic run in the tournament.

Family files fresh lawsuit to halt plans

Ernesina Fosu (R) and other relatives have filed a new lawsuit against the Abusuapanyin (L), others Ernesina Fosu (R) and other relatives have filed a new lawsuit against the Abusuapanyin (L), others

The immediate family of the late Ghanaian music icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has filed a fresh lawsuit to suspend the ongoing burial ceremony scheduled for December 13, 2025.

In the suit, which circulated on social media on December 5, 2025, the plaintiffs, Obaapanin Afia Adomah, Robert Gyamfi (Wofa Yaw Poku), Georgina Gyamfi, Ernestina Fosu, and Nana Afia Kobi, have accused the family head of mismanagement, attempting to hijack the funeral arrangements and every other rite since Daddy Lumba’s passing.

They further claim that the family head, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, has deliberately excluded them from key decisions regarding the funeral.

Daddy Lumba’s family announces change in final funeral arrangements

According to the plaintiffs, the family head, together with some individuals, conducted an autopsy on the late musician without their consent, a situation they believe requires thorough investigation.

In light of this, they have filed a formal complaint with the Homicide Division of the Ghana Police Service, requesting a full probe to determine the true cause of the musician’s death.

The plaintiffs have also cited CalBank in their suit, alleging that the funeral committee responsible for managing donations made to the ‘DL Foundation’ account during the musician’s one-week observation has been dissolved.

According to them, before new signatories were appointed, Abusuapayin Kofi Owusu allegedly withdrew GH¢11,000 from the account.

They added, that on November 11, 2025, Kofi Owusu again withdrew GH¢60,000 from the account without the family’s consent.

The plaintiffs are therefore asking the court to restrain CalBank from releasing any funds from the DL Foundation account to the family head.

Daddy Lumba Wife Dispute: Highlights from November 21 court hearing

Additionally, they have sought an interlocutory injunction against Transitions Funeral Home, preventing the facility from handing over the mortal remains of the late Daddy Lumba to the family head for burial.

“…stop Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the corpse to Owusu or anyone acting on his behalf until the suit is determined,” parts of the suits read.

Meanwhile, the family of the late musician is expected to appear before the court on December 11, 2025, for the hearing of the case.

‘Cease coming to work with immediate effect’

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterpise Agency (GEA) Margaret Ansei Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterpise Agency (GEA) Margaret Ansei

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterpise Agency (GEA) Margaret Ansei, has issued a strict directive ordering all District Coordinators whose contracts have expired, as well as National Service Personnel who have completed their service, to cease reporting to work with immediate effect.

In a memo dated December 3, 2025, and addressed to Heads of Directorates, Regional Managers and BAC/BRC Heads, management expressed concern over the continued presence of some former District Coordinators at various offices despite the expiration of their contracts.

According to the memo, management has observed that “some District Coordinators whose contracts have expired are still reporting to work at the various Directorates, Regional Offices, BACs and BRCs.”

The directive outlines four mandatory actions to be enforced immediately. Among them, the CEO instructed officers to “inform all outgone District Coordinators to cease coming to work with immediate effect.”

She further directed that “the newly recruited District Coordinators be provided with the necessary support and guidance needed to work effectively.”

Additionally, management emphasised the need for proper handing over of agency assets, stating, “Ensure the outgone District Coordinators hand over any property of the Agency in their possession to the Head of Directorate or Regional Manager.”

The memo also extended the directive to National Service Personnel, stating, “Kindly ensure that National Service Personnel who have completed their tenure of service should also cease coming to work.”

Margaret Ansei cautioned that any staff member who fails to comply will face appropriate disciplinary action.

“Failure on the part of any staff to comply with the above directive will result in the necessary action being taken, and the individual staff will be held liable,” she warned.

However, a document circulating on the Confirmation of Appointment as a District Coordinator/Business Development Officer, GEA/Mastercard Foundation Business in a Box (BizBox) Project appears to present a conflicting timeline regarding the tenure of some District Coordinators.

The appointment letter signed by former CEO Kosi Yankey-Ayeh states that the contract is a four-year full-time engagement, renewable annually, beginning 1st September 2024 and expected to end on 31st August 2028, subject to satisfactory performance and mutual written consent.

The document outlines the terms of employment, including leave entitlements, sick leave provisions and the requirement for either party to provide one month’s notice or salary in lieu of termination.

Sand and Stone Truck Drivers urge accountability in axle load enforcement

Anthony Mensah addressing journalists in Accra Anthony Mensah addressing journalists in Accra

The National Sand and Stone Tipper Truck Drivers Association has called for accountability and fairness in the enforcement of axle load regulations, blaming institutional failures for the current crisis.

Speaking at a press conference, Anthony Mensah, National Public Relations Officer of the Association, stated that the drivers are not solely responsible for overloading, citing the lack of weighing equipment at loading points and the varying weights of materials.

The Association has written several petitions to relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Ghana Standards Authority, and Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, highlighting the challenges and proposing solutions.

According to Mensah, the permissible weight limit of 30.5 tons is often exceeded due to customer demands and the physical design of the trucks, which can safely carry only 9-14.5 tons.

The Association is calling for state-owned tipper trucks to be placed on rail bridges for fair enforcement and for authorities to take responsibility for the crisis.

The press conference was held ahead of Farmers’ Day, observed on December 5, 2025, and the Association extended greetings to farmers and urged the incoming National Best Farmer to collaborate with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to combat illegal mining activities.

Journalists left stranded in cold and snow

Some journalists have been left stranded at the forecourt of the John F. Kennedy Center Some journalists have been left stranded at the forecourt of the John F. Kennedy Center

The build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw is turning chaotic, as dozens of journalists are being left stranded outside the venue on Friday, December 5, 2025, afternoon due to an unexpected and painfully slow security operation.

With snow falling and temperatures dropping, members of the international press are standing outside the perimeter for hours while local “secret service” personnel are carrying out lengthy checks on bags and equipment.

According to RMC Sport, the searches are starting nearly three hours before the ceremony, yet no journalists are being allowed inside.

2026 World Cup Draw: Big changes, big seeds and Ghana’s possible path

The situation, according to reports, is becoming increasingly embarrassing for the organizers. FIFA, usually in full control of its flagship events, is finding itself powerless, as local authorities are taking complete charge of access and logistics.

What is supposed to be a smooth, global showcase is instead turning into confusion and frustration.

Journalists are posting images and videos from the freezing queues, saying they are wondering whether they will even make it inside before the draw begins. Some are describing the scene as “disorganized,” surprised that such a massive event is suffering such a simple operational breakdown.

Olympian and other Eritreans freed after 18 years without trial, relatives tell the BBC

Zeragaber Gebrehiwot was 24 when he took part in the 1980 Moscow Olympics Zeragaber Gebrehiwot was 24 when he took part in the 1980 Moscow Olympics

Thirteen people held for more than 18 years without trial in Eritrea have been released from a notorious military prison, relatives of the detainees have told the BBC.

Among those freed were several prominent figures, including 69-year-old Olympian cyclist and businessman Zeragaber Gebrehiwot.

They had been held at Mai Serwa prison, known for its harsh conditions and where many of the inmates are believed to be political prisoners.

An unnamed source who was once detained in Mai Serwa told the BBC the prisoners were arrested in October 2007 following an assassination attempt on Col Simon Gebredingil, a senior internal security officer in President Isaias Afwerki’s government.

Around 30 people were initially detained, according to the source. Some have been released over the years, but about 20 remained in custody.

Zeragaber competed in the Moscow Olympics in 1980 when Eritrea was part of Ethiopia.

The mountainous country, which gained its independence from Ethiopia in 1993, has a strong cycling culture and its cyclists have steadily gained international recognition over the past decade.

Those released with Zeragaber on Thursday include prominent businessmen Tesfalem Mengsteab and Bekure Mebrahtu as well as the Habtemariam brothers – David, an engineer, and Matthews, a geometrist.

Six senior police officers and an internal security agent were also freed.

The Eritrean government has not issued any statement regarding the releases.

Many of them are sick and this could explain why they have been released now.

Families were not allowed to visit the prisoners throughout their detention, the relatives said.

The UN and human rights groups have long accused the Eritrean government of gross human rights violations, including torture, forced disappearance and the imprisonment of tens of thousands of people in inhumane conditions.

Mai Serwa prison, located about 9km (six miles) north-west of the capital, Asmara, has expanded over the years to include 20 metal shipping containers in which prisoners are held incommunicado, sources have told the BBC.

Last year, Berhane Abrehe, who served as President Isaias’s finance minister for 11 years until 2012, died in prison. He had spent six years in jail – detained after releasing a book in which he described the president as a “dictator” who needed to resign.

He was also never taken to court. According to UK-based Human Rights Concern – Eritrea, he died in Asmara’s Carshelli prison.

Over the last three decades, Eritrea has remained a one-party state with no functioning constitution. It is one of the most militarised societies in the world, with indefinite military conscription.

There has been no free press since the closure of independent newspapers and arrest of most of their editors and journalists in 2001.

This was when the government arrested 15 politicians known as the G-15, along with 16 journalists, after they demanded that President Isaias implement the draft constitution and hold open elections.

According to Amnesty International, the fate and whereabouts of 11 of the politicians, as well as the journalists accused of links to the G-15, remain unknown.

Aged 79, President Isaias marked 32 years in power earlier this year and has still never faced an election.

Lightwave threatens International Court of Arbitration over LHIMS contract dispute

0

Lightwave eHealth Solutions, developers of the LHIMS platform, has threatened to take its dispute with the Ministry of Health to the International Court of Arbitration, accusing Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh of deliberately undermining its operations in public hospitals.

The company claims GH₵10.45 million was diverted from the NHIA’s 2024 eHealth budget to pay a firm allegedly linked to the Minister—without Lightwave’s knowledge—and that no monitoring report has been released despite repeated RTI requests.

Lightwave further alleges that the Minister rehired the same company in July 2025 to audit its work, yet continues to withhold the audit report, raising questions about the firm’s certification to conduct such reviews.

While the Ministry accuses Lightwave of failing to complete a $100 million contract to connect 950 health facilities, the company insists that the remaining 17% of work had already been explained to the Minister by MoH officials. It also maintains that its systems remain operational in many facilities and claims the Minister has avoided meaningful engagement since September.

The tensions come amid disagreements over the LHIMS system, which the Health Minister has described as being intentionally disrupted by the vendor over a new maintenance agreement.

0

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has rejected suggestions that he is positioning himself to take over as Special Prosecutor, describing the claims as baseless and “laughable”.

He said such speculation is misplaced and ignores the broader issues he has raised about leadership and accountability within the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Speaking in an interview, Mr Kpebu said he has no interest in assuming the role currently held by Kissi Agyebeng, insisting that doing so would create troubling public perceptions given his recent criticism of the OSP.

“No, it is a laughable claim. You see, I am laughing,” he said, responding to rumours about his intentions.

He argued that taking up the position after leading a strong public campaign against the current Special Prosecutor would undermine public confidence in his motives.

“I am not interested in becoming the Special Prosecutor especially after leading this charge, and the optics will look bad,” he stressed.

According to him, his advocacy is driven by principle, not personal ambition.

Mr Kpebu, however, acknowledged that he is likely to serve the country in some form of public office in the future, but maintained that the OSP is not among the roles he would consider.

“It is clear that I will go into public service at some point, but not the Special Prosecutor,” he stated. He added that such a role would not align with his long-term aspirations.

He reiterated that his recent actions and comments are motivated by his belief in strengthening state institutions and promoting accountability.

He said Ghanaians must focus on ensuring the OSP operates effectively rather than speculating about individuals who may or may not take over the office.

Kwaisey Pee Sues Ghana Awards Europe Organisers

0

Kwaisey Pee

Highlife musician, Kwaisey Pee, has taken legal action against the organisers of the Ghana Awards Europe, accusing them of breaching a performance agreement ahead of this year’s event.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on OKAY FM on 2 November 2025, the award-winning singer revealed that the organisers failed to honour their commitments, leaving him sidelined just days before the show.

According to Kwaisey Pee, the organisers initially approached him to perform at the awards night, and both parties reached a mutual agreement. However, communication reportedly broke down as the event date approached.

“They reached out to me to perform during the awards night, and we all came to an agreement. When the time was almost due, I wasn’t hearing from them regarding plane tickets, advance payment, and accommodation,” he explained.

He added that his management eventually contacted the organisers three days before the event, only to be informed that they could no longer work with him.

Despite this, promotional materials released by the organisers still featured his image.

“…so my management reached out to them three days before the event, and that was when they told us they couldn’t work with me anymore. Meanwhile, they were using my picture to promote the event,” he said.

Kwaisey Pee described the situation as disrespectful to his brand, emphasising that the organisers’ actions were a deliberate attempt to exploit his image for publicity.

He confirmed that his management has issued the Ghana Awards Europe team a 14-day ultimatum to respond to the lawsuit.

“They didn’t even give me prior notice. Aside from that, they didn’t remove my picture from the promotional flyers on their platforms. It is very disrespectful and a deliberate attempt to use my image for their own gain.

“I have served them, and they have seen it. So we have given them the 14-day deadline. If they don’t respond, we will take the necessary action,” he added.

Abolish OSP, empower AG to fight corruption

0

The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has called for the abolition of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), insisting that the Attorney-General’s Office should be empowered as the sole institution responsible for investigating and prosecuting corruption cases.

Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, December 4, Mr. Ayariga questioned the rationale behind under-resourcing the Attorney-General while allocating substantial funds to the OSP, which he argued has failed to meet expectations.

“Look at the budget, why have we not been resourcing the Attorney General? After resourcing the OSP more than the Attorney General, [OSP] is still not delivering. I’m of a strong conviction that the OSP should be abolished, whether through a private members’ bill as advised by former Speaker, Prof. Mike Oquaye, or a call on the executive to expedite a bill that we will consider and approve by the House,” he said.

He emphasised that scrapping the OSP would not protect corrupt individuals from facing justice.

“Let me sound a warning that abolition of the OSP will not leave individuals engaged in corruption off the hook. I will ensure that the process is expedited,” he added.

The OSP has recently faced increased public scrutiny following the detention of private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu after a confrontation with security officials at the office’s headquarters.

6 common mistakes partners make in bed

Many couples struggle with intimacy not because they lack love, but because they repeat small mistakes that weaken their connection. Understanding these mistakes can help partners build healthier and more satisfying experiences together.

One common mistake is not communicating openly. Many people assume their partner already knows what they like or dislike, but keeping quiet only creates confusion.

Ghanaian businesswoman Patricia Poku-Diaby has, over the years, changed the narrative of African entrepreneurship by proving that local companies can thrive alongside multinational giants.

Born into a prominent business family, she is one of 18 children of the late Ghanaian entrepreneur Francis Kojo Poku.

Her journey began when she took a bold step from her father’s business in 2010 to start her own business in the cocoa industry, drawing inspiration from her father’s transport and trading company.

In 2010, Patricia Poku-Diaby founded the Plot Enterprise Group, a commodities trading and processing powerhouse headquartered in Côte d’Ivoire.

Having grown up in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, she watched her business expand into a multinational company with operations in both Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.

With nearly three decades of experience in the industry, the multinational businesswoman now operates a state-of-the-art cocoa processing plant in Takoradi, with an annual capacity of 32,000 metric tonnes.

She also runs a 16,000–metric-ton grinding plant in Abidjan.

5 richest women in Ghana you need to know

This makes her the only African woman to have built a large-scale cocoa processing facility, an industry traditionally dominated by men and multinational corporations.

Thanks to her multinational operations, Patricia Poku-Diaby’s net worth is estimated between $450 million and $750 million, making her the richest businesswoman in Ghana.

Despite her immense success in the cocoa processing industry, Patricia remains committed to philanthropy, focusing on education and economic empowerment, particularly for women and the youth.

Yaw Siki inspires Kofi Mole to consider resuming church attendance after 18 years

0

Kofi Mole is a Ghanaian rapper Kofi Mole is a Ghanaian rapper

Rapper Kofi Mole has signaled a renewed desire to return to church, inspired by a new release from rapper-turned-evangelist Yaw Siki.

On Thursday, December 4, 2025, Mole reacted to a post on X showing Yaw Siki performing his latest song, None Like You.

The track delivered with the same sharp cadence and rhyme skill that made Siki a standout in his Hiplife days underscored how, despite leaving secular music and its accompanying hedonism for ministry, his musical brilliance remained intact.

Deeply moved, Kofi Mole revealed that he had been absent from church for nearly two decades, but Yaw Siki’s transformation and talent might just be what breaks that streak. He ended his post with a prayer for Siki’s continued blessing.

“It’s been 18 years since I last went to church. If I ever resume, it would be because of you. God bless you, King!” the Nirvana hitmaker wrote in Pidgin.

Siki’s response was, “Thank God you have resumed [prayer/thankful emoji].”

Yaw Siki rose to prominence in Hiplife as a gifted storyteller and lyricist, with Wope Dodo (2009) being among several hits in his brief but memorable run.

During the era when Tema rappers dominated Ghana’s music scene, Siki was hailed as one of the most promising talents — until a devastating accident in April 2013 abruptly halted his rise.

After making a full recovery in 2016, Siki chose a radical new path: he abandoned all financial gains from his music, rejected bookings, and even urged DJs to stop playing his old songs, saying they promoted immorality and no longer aligned with his values.

In a 2025 interview with TV3, he shared that he had spent the past decade deepening his Christian faith and spreading the Gospel on the streets and in commercial vehicles.

Only recently has Yaw Siki returned to releasing music this time exclusively Gospel yet still showcasing the unmistakable artistry that once made crowds dance. Today, instead of fuelling party and nightlife energy, his lyrics challenge vice and promote Christian living.

Haruna Iddrisu, Ablakwa in serious ‘fight’ over NDC 2028 running mate slot – Adom-Otchere alleges

Adom-Otchere has alleged that Haruna and Ablakwa aspire to partner the current Vice President play videoAdom-Otchere has alleged that Haruna and Ablakwa aspire to partner the current Vice President

Former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere, has alleged an ongoing rift between the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

According to him, the tension stems from internal competition for the 2028 National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential slot.

Speaking on his Good Evening Ghana programme on December 3, 2025, Adom-Otchere said both ministers have recently taken contradictory public positions on the debate over student hairstyle regulations an issue he claims reflects deeper political rivalry rather than mere policy differences.

Adom-Otchere said Ablakwa’s recent public disagreement with Haruna Iddrisu over student’s hairstyle in Senior High Schools breached government communication discipline, adding that such contradictions between cabinet members should not occur.

The broadcaster asserted that the real source of tension is the race to become the NDC’s running mate in the 2028 general election.

“The tussle for VP in NDC. That’s what they are fighting about. That is the fight. Both of them want to be the next Vice President if the NDC were to win 2028. And both of them want to be Vice President for the same presidential candidates,” he said.

He claimed that both ministers aspire to partner the current Vice President, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, should the party choose her as its presidential candidate in 2028.

Adom-Otchere explained that Ablakwa enjoys a longstanding political relationship with Prof Opoku-Agyemang dating back to her days as Minister for Education under the then former President John Dramani Mahama, where Ablakwa served as her deputy.

Haruna Iddrisu, on the other hand, is said to be positioning himself based on his own political stature and influence within the party.

He further suggested that leading NDC figures including former National Chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo and former Health Minister Alex Segbefia are key actors in the party’s internal alignment in favour of Prof Opoku-Agyemang.

According to Adom-Otchere, the Vice President’s camp sees Ablakwa as a strong bridge to the Volta Region, a strategic electoral bloc in NDC politics.

He argued that, both Iddrisu and Ablakwa have begun positioning themselves early for the 2028 contest.

Bridging research gaps key to making Ghana a leading food producer – Agric minister

Eric Opoku is the Minister of Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku is the Minister of Food and Agriculture

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has called for a renewed national commitment to agricultural research, innovation, and private sector collaboration as Ghana works toward becoming a food-secure nation on the continent.

Speaking at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration in Ho on Friday, December 5, 2025, the minister said one of the biggest obstacles to Ghana’s agricultural growth has been the longstanding disconnect between scientific research and its real-world application by farmers and industry.

“For decades, many of the research findings in agriculture have remained on shelves, unseen by farmers and unutilised by industry,” he noted.

“This year’s platform has opened a new chapter by bringing research to the public domain through a national live telecast,” he added.

Opoku expressed optimism that the establishment of the Government Research Fund would accelerate agricultural transformation by ensuring research outputs reach those who need them most.

He described Ghana as a country “endowed with enormous agricultural potential,” insisting that with the right investment and determined leadership, the nation could soon emerge as a leading food producer in Africa.

41st Farmers’ Day: President Mahama urges single-digit interest loans for farmers

Congratulating award winners at this year’s Farmers’ Day celebration, the minister emphasised that Ghana’s development is closely tied to the success of the agricultural sector.

“Every cedi invested in agriculture yields exponential returns in food security, jobs, industry expansion, and national stability,” he stated.

Opoku also appealed to corporate Ghana to continue partnering with the ministry through sponsorships, technical collaborations, and financial support to scale innovations and build a resilient food system.

He concluded by urging all stakeholders to remain committed to strengthening agriculture as the backbone of Ghana’s development.

Samia faces more pressure as US, EU mull funding cuts

0

Western missions, the United States, the United Nations (UN), and the European Union (EU) are formally demanding government action over the crisis stemming from the election-related protests in Tanzania.

In a joint statement on Friday, the British and Canadian high commissions and embassies of Norway, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden echoed growing global calls for a proper and transparent investigation into the deadly election-related events, including reports of state-instigated civilian killings and concealment of dead bodies.

They urged President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration to address recommendations by election observers from the African Union and Southern African Development Community (SADC), which they said set out “clear shortcomings” in Tanzania’s electoral process.

The joint message came on the heels of back-to-back statements from the US and UN, which underscored the serious nature of Tanzania’s current political crisis caused by a poorly handled election and the challenges that the Samia administration needs to overcome to regain international confidence.

It also followed an EU Parliament resolution on November 29 pushing for a complete EU aid cut to Tanzania due to concerns about repression, democratic backsliding, and human-rights violations arising from the election, potentially blocking a €156 million ($181.82 million) funding package for 2025, which was approved in October.

The resolution requires final endorsement by the EU Council and the EU Commission before implementation.

And on Thursday, the US Department of State said that it was “comprehensively” reviewing its bilateral relationship with Tanzania in the wake of government actions that have raised “grave concerns” about the direction of the relationship and “the reliability of the Tanzanian government as a partner.”

The actions it referred to included “ongoing repression of religious freedom and free speech, the presence of persistent obstacles to US investment, and disturbing violence against civilians in the days leading up to and following the October 29 elections.”

“These actions have put American citizens, tourists, and US interests in Tanzania at risk, and threatened to undermine the mutual prosperity and security that have defined our partnership for decades,” said Thomas Pigott, the department’s principal deputy spokesperson.

“The United States cannot overlook actions that jeopardise the safety of our citizens, or the security and stability of the region. The future of our bilateral relationship with the government of Tanzania will be based on its actions.”

Observers have noted that the US statement appeared intentionally timed to coincide with President Donald Trump’s meeting with leaders from African countries to witness the signing of a fresh peace deal between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo in Washington, DC, on Thursday, from which Tanzania was conspicuously excluded. Tanzanian officials did not immediately respond to the latest pressure from abroad.

_The EastAfrican’s_ phone calls and text messages to Foreign Affairs minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo went unanswered. But President Samia, earlier in the week, railed against external attempts to “undermine” both her government and Tanzania’s sovereignty, citing these attempts as major factors behind the election chaos caused by youth-driven protests and a lethal response from state security forces, which led to thousands of deaths, including those of innocent civilians.

Without citing any specific countries, groups, or individuals, she accused internal and external influencers — including Tanzanians in the diaspora — of instigating the protests in a bid to topple her government.

She defended the use of deadly force to quell the demonstrations, asserting that “the measures applied fit the circumstances.”

In the midst of the unprecedented election-related crisis, Samia—seeking to cement her incumbency through the ballot box after inheriting the presidency from the late John Magufuli in 2021—was declared to have won 98 percent of the vote, and the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party swept up at least 90 percent of seats in the National Assembly.

But the election’s credibility has been widely questioned in the wake of the government’s reluctance to release official casualty figures from the widespread violence.

To further compound another uncomfortable week for President Samia, a group of UN special rapporteurs on human rights also released a report on Thursday condemning “reported widespread and systematic human rights violations in Tanzania” following the election and calling for a “prompt, impartial, independent, thorough, and effective investigation into all reported killings, enforced disappearances, and other human rights violations.”

According to the UN experts, reports indicated that security officers were given orders to “shoot to kill” during the crackdown, which was conducted under the cover of a nationwide internet shutdown that “severely curtailed efforts to document (violations), further compounding the crisis.”

They noted that the number of people killed in the aftermath of the election was estimated to be at least 700, with other estimates pointing to thousands of potential victims.

Many of the victims’ bodies were reported to have disappeared from morgues, amid allegations that human remains were “incinerated or buried in unidentified mass graves.”

“Family members who identified remains were reportedly forced to sign false statements about the cause of death to receive the bodies,” the report said.

While also noting that the government had established an official commission of inquiry to look into the causes of the protests and human-rights violations, the UN rapporteurs urged the commission to be”independent and make proposals to ensure accountability, justice and reparation, including guarantees of non-recurrence, and full participation of victims and civil society organisations.”

They also referenced threats of a fresh round of planned public demonstrations on December 9, Tanzania’s Independence Day, calling on authorities and security forces to prevent further “violations” and protect people’s right to peaceful assembly.

Tense Moment in Bosomtwe: Samira Bawumia Almost Attacked as Computerman Counters Malik Basintale

News Hub Creator10h

According to reports, former vice president Samira Bawumia had a hair-raising experience at a political engagement in the Bosomtwe constituency, narrowly escaping an assault by a mob of delegates.

Some delegates had voiced their displeasure with party activity and leadership decisions, leading to heightened emotions, according to sources. Witnesses say it was a chaotic situation, and security officers stepped in to protect Bawumia from harm.

Reportedly, the ex-VP kept his cool while addressing the delegates and calling for party unity and dialogue. Computerman has responded to Malik Basintale’s comments about the incident by releasing a counterstatement. Computerman said that Basintale’s story gave an inaccurate depiction of what happened in Bosomtwe and condemned the author for it. This rebuttal highlights how different political analysts and public personalities are becoming increasingly agitated over how the situation has been handled.

According to political scientists, this episode shows how dissatisfied some party members are and how important it is for party leaders to communicate with their constituents on a more personal level. They also point out that unattended conflicts of this kind have the potential to grow into more substantial disagreements that could damage party unity in the run-up to the elections.

The near-attack on social media has been strongly denounced by Samira Bawumia’s supporters, who have urged for peaceful engagement and respect for public leaders. Party insiders, meantime, are supposedly looking into what went wrong to improve engagement and security measures for future events. Reflecting the difficulty of handling high-stakes political events and the ferocity of political discourse in Ghana, the Bosomtwe incident and the continuing exchange between Computerman and Malik Basintale have attracted national attention.

KJ Spio enlists UK hit-makers NSG, Fave for latest single ‘Skills’

0

For his last single of the year, culturepreneur, tastemaker, producer and creative KJ Spio brings together UK hitmakers NSG and Nigerian singer/songwriter Fave for his latest track, “Skills”.

Following a string of unrivalled releases with artists such as Gyakie, Oxlade, Konshens, Sarkodie, Ambré, Harmonize, Libianca, Kidi and Stalk Ashley of which gained support from Ones To Watch, GRM Daily, Notion, New Wave Magazine, Ministry of Sound and more, KJ Spio is continuing to solidify his status as a powerhouse in the Afrobeats scene that bring together artistes across the world.

Produced by KJ Spio and Dunnie (Nigerian female producer/singer/songwriter) for a percussive Afrobeats instrumental that is due to be a big hit for the Christmas season, Fave enters the track with her buttery, silky smooth and eclectic vocals.

Whilst NSG take turns to bring their high octane, slick lyrics to the track to give it an infectious party vibe. Laced with captivating flows courtesy of NSG and melodic vocals from Fave, “Skills” is the ultimate catchy anthem with KJ Spio cementing his trendsetting and trailblasing status with yet another infectious spin.

KJ Spio described the track as “A beautiful song that came so effortlessly in the studio, I call this one a big vibe.”

KJ Spio Bio

Acclaimed culturepreneur KJ Spio is a one-man mood enhancer – a musical multi-hyphenate devoted to upping the ambiance of whatever social situation you might find yourself in. “I’m all about creating a vibe that helps people have fun and enjoy themselves, whether they’re at a party or somewhere more intimate,” smiles the Ghana-born artist.

You might be wondering what’s a culturepreneur? For Spio, the term reflects the ever-changing role he’s held down in the UK and African music industries for almost a decade now, pushing the culture forward in whatever new and exciting ways he can dream up. Sometimes, that has meant managing artistes like late great British talent Cadet, whose single ‘Advice’ he helped become a platinum smash independently with over 250 million streams.

Other times, that has meant creative-directing and A&R for superstars like Ghanian icon Sarkodie, whose first ever virtual concert, performing at the country’s historic Independence Square, broke records for live streams. Genre doesn’t matter – only authenticity.

“If it’s not progressive to the collective culture, I don’t do it,” insists the hitmaker, who began his journey in the music industry as road manager-turned-content creator for UK rap hero Big Narstie and hasn’t stopped hustling for the music scene he adores since.

Fave Bio

From soul-baring lyrics to her hypnotic vocals, Fave’s minute-long twitter videos took the Afrobeats community by storm in the early days of Covid lockdown. A star was undeniably born. As a middle child and only daughter of the Chidozies—a small family of 5 who resided in eastern and south-western Nigeria over the last two decades, her musical experience typically began from the church at the tender age of 6.

Just before internet fame in 2020, Fave (coined from “Godsfavour”) was just a 19-year-old singer-songwriter pursuing a Law degree—belted with only one released single “M.O.M.M.S”.

Although her career has seen her dabble around genres including Dancehall, Afropop, Afrobeats, Dance, R&B, Fave largely considers herself a “pop” girl.

Her unique poetic approach to writing prioritises vulnerability accompanied by vivid plots, conveying a whirlwind of emotions, often on groovy beat-drops or high-tempo drum progressions.

Fave has been touted by several boards as the future of Afrobeats. In 2022, months after her chart-topping debut hit record “Baby Riddim”, she won the “rookie of the year” at the prestigious Headies award, also scoring multiple “Best new artiste” and “Most promising artist” nominations at the Afrima awards & Soundcity Video awards respectively.

NSG Bio

It’s a simple yet vast acronym, seeping with potential. “It’s a lifestyle, a movement,” the group say. At first, it stood for No Sleep Gang, then Non-Stop Grinding.

At the moment, it means Never Stop Growing but that could change too. As NSG member Kruddz explains, that’s why they refer to the name’s meaning as a lifestyle – it echoes what’s happening to NSG in the present moment.

Past and present names aside, the group reflects the most exciting components of the current UK music scene: a lively diasporic afro bashment sound and a larger-than-life personality, all rolled into one six-member group.

Comprised of 6 members: Kruddz, Mxjib, Mojo, OGD, Dope and Papii Abz, they’ve been bubbling under the crest of producer slowly crafting their sound together. Essentially, NSG are climbing slowly toward their peak. On their own journey but also one that’s closely connected to the afro bashment sound that’s creeping across the globe, the road ahead looks golden. Where do they want to go? “Global domination, baby,” they say. “Right now we’re loading up the artillery. They said no nuclear weapons and we didn’t take that in. We’re loading them up. We’re not looking on a United Kingdom thing, we’re looking on a global thing.” Never Stop Growing indeed.
