After the NDC decided to remove Stonebwoy from their election victory concert, they explained that some of their supporters were unhappy, mentioning concerns about his rumored connections to the New Patriotic Party (NPP). However, many people online suspect that Baba Sadiq, who has had issues with Stonebwoy in the past, may be behind the decision.
Stonebwoy dropped from NDC Victory Concert after grassroots backlash
Celebrated Reggae/Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has been removed from the lineup of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Victory Concert, which is slated for Sunday, January 5, 2025.
This decision, made just days before the event, comes in response to backlash from the party’s grassroots and youth supporters about Stonebwoy’s inclusion on the artistes list.
The reigning Telecel Ghana Awards Artiste of the Year was initially unveiled as one of the headliners for the upcoming concert on Sunday but the announcement was met with mixed reactions, sparking a social media storm under the hashtag #DropStonebwoy.
Critics argued that Stonebwoy’s inclusion was inappropriate due to the artiste perceived lack of alignment with the NDC’s ideologies or his previous political affiliations. Many party members and supporters took to social media to voice their concerns, urging the concert organisers to reconsider their decision.
The supporters objections were rooted in a belief that the inclusion of certain performers should reflect unwavering loyalty to the party’s ideals and vision.
A vocal section of the supporters argued that the concert was a moment to celebrate the NDC’s historic victory in the December 7 general elections, and therefore, the artistes performing should align closely with the party’s ideology and should have played a role in its campaign.
In response to the mounting pressure, the organisers of the NDC Victory Concert released an official statement on Friday, December 3, confirming Stonebwoy’s removal from the performance lineup.
“The organisers of the Ghana Victory Concert, responding to public sentiment and concerns from the party’s grassroots regarding Stonebwoy’s inclusion, have decided to remove the artist from the concert lineup. We sincerely apologise to all members of the National Democratic Congress, particularly the grassroots, for what may have appeared to be a lack of discretion on the part of the organisers,” the organisers statement read in part.
Below is the full statement.

Obuasi East NDC Withdraws Court Case Challenging Election Results
In a surprising turn of events, Samuel Aboagye, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, has withdrawn his court case challenging the Electoral Commission’s (EC) re-declaration of election results.
The case, which was filed after the EC’s second collation of results overturned Aboagye’s initial victory, raised concerns about alleged irregularities in the electoral process.
Samuel Aboagye, who was initially declared the winner of the Obuasi East parliamentary election on December 7, 2024, had his victory overturned after the EC conducted a second collation of results on December 21, 2024.
The re-collation, which was conducted at the EC’s Greater Accra Regional Office, confirmed Patrick Boakye Yiadom of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the winner by a narrow margin of 19 votes.
In his court application, Samuel Aboagye sought to have the EC’s second collation and declaration of results declared null and void.
He also requested the court to mandate the EC to gazette the results collated on December 8, 2024, which he claimed declared him the winner.
However, in a sudden change of heart, Aboagye’s lawyers, led by Elikplim Agbemava, withdrew the application with the liberty to re-apply.
According to the court records, Gary Nimako, counsel for Patrick Boakye Yiadom, did not oppose the withdrawal request.
However, Justice Forson Baah Agyepong subsequently struck out the application as withdrawn with the liberty to re-apply.
The withdrawal of the case brings to an end the controversy surrounding the Obuasi East parliamentary election results.

Court Orders Recollation Of Results In Tema Central
In a significant development, the Accra High Court General Jurisdiction 2, presided over by Justice Forson Agyapong, has granted an application by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to compel the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate results in the Tema Central Constituency.
This ruling comes after the EC had earlier declared results for the constituency, which the NPP contested.
The court’s decision was based on three key grounds.
Firstly, the EC failed to collate results from all polling stations in the constituency.
Secondly, the person who declared the results was not the designated returning officer.
Thirdly, there was evidence that the NPP had demanded a recollation of results, but the EC had refused to act.
As a result, the court has ordered the EC to collate the results of the two outstanding polling stations and add them to the already collated results.
Additionally, the court has directed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to provide security for the EC to carry out this exercise.
This development is the latest twist in the ongoing controversy surrounding the December 7, 2024, parliamentary elections.
The EC had earlier gazetted the results for 274 constituencies, but the results for two constituencies, including Tema Central, remained outstanding due to disputes over the collation process.
The NPP’s application to the court is part of its efforts to ensure transparency and accuracy in the electoral process.
The party had raised concerns about irregularities in the collation of results in several constituencies, including Tema Central.

Ahead of the inauguration of President-Elect John Dramani Mahama, Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have issued a stern warning to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over alleged violence tied to individuals associated with the party as per reports from Adomonline on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
Deputy Majority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei, condemned the acts of violence, which she claimed were orchestrated by NDC supporters targeting NPP appointees and their supporters following the 2024 general elections.
She accused prominent figures, including Kofi Totobi Quakyi and Lt. Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey, of being behind the attacks.
“The violence has persisted despite NPP’s concession of defeat, and it is crucial that both the President-Elect and the security forces take immediate action to ensure the perpetrators face justice,” Appiagyei said at a press conference.
Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, further emphasized that the NPP would pursue all legal avenues available if the violence continued.
He urged the NDC leadership to ensure peace during the transition period, asserting that the security of citizens and the rule of law must remain a priority.
NPP MPs are calling for swift intervention by security agencies to ensure that the situation does not escalate further, thereby safeguarding national peace and order.

The Gbese Stool has emphasized the importance of following land usage laws by issuing a firm warning against the reconstruction of unauthorized structures on Katamanto territory. The declaration addresses persistent worries about unapproved construction that jeopardizes the region’s integrity and cultural value. The potential effects of these constructions on environmental preservation, community safety, and the historical identity of the lands are of great concern to the authorities.
A renowned neighborhood with deep historical origins, Katamanto has seen an increase in unauthorized construction, endangering its scenery and legacy. These areas have great cultural significance for the local people, as the Gbese stool highlights. By confronting the problem directly, they hope to discourage possible infractions and promote a sense of shared accountability for maintaining the area in compliance with current regulations and customs.
In addition to being a warning, the appeal to stop illegal construction also acts as an invitation to have discussions about land management and urban growth. Residents and local leaders are among the stakeholders that are encouraged to have productive conversations that can result in sustainable development solutions that uphold landowner rights and advance the welfare of the community.
Finally, the strong caution of the Gbese stool serves as an important reminder of the importance of respecting land laws and cultural heritage. Every member of the community must be aware of their responsibility to preserve this treasured land for coming generations as they unite to defend Katamanto’s integrity.
The next government must make sure that a human being is appointed as the minister for justice.

With his latest remarks on Ghana’s Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, Franklin Cudjoe, the outspoken President of IMANI Africa, has once again thrown himself into the spotlight in a nation where political arguments frequently elicit strong emotions. Cudjoe’s recent comments, which were made with a mix of anger and annoyance, have generated a lot of discussion over the condition of Ghana’s judiciary and leadership.
Cudjoe criticized the actions of the incumbent officeholder and declared, “The next government must ensure a decent and fair-minded human being is Minister for Justice.” In his remarks, Cudjoe directly criticized Godfred Yeboah Dame’s time serving as Attorney General and Minister for Justice, pointing out what he sees as a serious lack of honesty and equity in the role.
The reason for Cudjoe’s dissatisfaction is his belief that Dame has been in charge of providing the administration with “illiberal and politically divisive” counsel. He cited a number of well-known examples, including the SALL, Domelevo, and Martin Amidu trials, arguing that they represent a troubling pattern in which justice and individual freedoms have been sacrificed for political ends. “These names are not just cases; they are emblematic of a system where justice is too often swayed by politics,” Cudjoe said.
Significant public discussion has been sparked by the controversies surrounding these cases, each of which has its own distinct set of complications. Even though the Attorney General’s office has vehemently refuted claims of inappropriate involvement, claiming that it had no direct involvement in these cases, the complaints are nonetheless unrelenting and have contributed to the decline of public confidence in the legal system.
Cudjoe’s demand for reform is becoming more and more urgent as Ghana gets closer to a significant political shift. “We cannot keep making contentious, politically tinged decisions in the legal system. He underlined that leadership must be about more than simply authority; it must also be about accountability, equity, and justice for all. According to Cudjoe, a crucial first step in rebuilding trust in the system is the nomination of a “decent human being” to the Attorney General post.

Calling off strike not an option
The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has declared that its ongoing strike will continue until a resolution is reached by the Council, despite calls to end the action.
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) had earlier directed CETAG to suspend the strike to allow for further dialogue. This followed a closed-door meeting between GTEC and CETAG after the association declared a strike on Thursday, January 2, 2025, over unresolved issues.
In a press statement, GTEC’s Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, criticized the timing of the strike, describing it as counterproductive. He appealed to CETAG to call off the action and engage in continued discussions, emphasizing GTEC’s commitment to resolving their concerns.
However, speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Maxwell Bunu, President of CETAG, maintained that the strike could only be moderated, not completely called off. He argued that the government’s financial commitments to date have been inadequate to address their grievances fully.
“What we saw today, probably if they were to show those documents to us, the commitments they had made earlier, we wouldn’t have been where we are. It has always been documentation and promises, we have not seen any full action.
“All the documents they have shown to us, we need to brief the council, about what transpired today, [Friday] and the council will take a decision from there. Based on what I have seen today, I made it known to Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai that it’s not sufficient to enable us to call off or suspend the strike.
“We’re not calling off this strike, the best we can do is to moderate the elements of the strike. For us to just call it off I don’t think that is feasible.”
He accused the government of being insensitive to their concerns.
The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana on January 2, announced its decision to embark on an indefinite strike effective Thursday, January 2, 2025.
The declaration follows an Emergency National Council meeting of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association held on Monday, December 30, 2024.
In a statement issued on December, 31, CETAG explained that this decision follows earlier notices of strike served on September 26, 2024, and December 23, 2024, of which the National Labour Commission (NLC) failed to address the concerns raised.
Call off strike; timing is wrong, GTEC tells CETAG

Stonebwoy Dropped from NDC’s Ghana Victory Concert Amid Allegations of NPP Ties
The Ghana Victory Concert, a major event to celebrate the National Democratic Congress (NDC) victory in the 2024 elections, has faced an unexpected controversy with the removal of Stonebwoy, the initially announced headline act.
The renowned dancehall artist’s involvement in the concert sparked fierce backlash from certain factions within the NDC, who questioned his political affiliations and speculated about his alleged ties to the rival New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The backlash from some NDC grassroots members grew quickly after the lineup was unveiled, with many demanding Stonebwoy’s removal over concerns about his loyalty to the party. In response to the mounting pressure, the event organizers, in consultation with the party’s National Executive Council, made the decision to drop the artist from the concert, acknowledging the gravity of the situation.
In a statement released on January 3, 2025, the organizers apologized for what they described as a lack of discretion in selecting Stonebwoy for the event. “We sincerely apologize to all members of the National Democratic Congress, particularly the grassroots, for what may have appeared to be a lack of discretion on the part of the organizers. We also extend our apologies to Stonebwoy and his team for this unfortunate outcome,” the statement read.
This decision has sparked a broader conversation within the NDC about which artists truly represent the party’s values and its electoral journey. Some supporters are now calling for the inclusion of artists who have been vocal in their support of the party, such as Mzbel and Nero X, whose involvement in the NDC’s campaigns is well-documented.
Stonebwoy, who recently won the coveted Artist of the Year award at the 2024 TGMA, has yet to publicly comment on the situation, leaving many to wonder how this controversy will affect his future relationship with the NDC and its supporters.
The fallout highlights the delicate balance between music, politics, and public perception, particularly when artists become embroiled in political discussions. For Stonebwoy, the incident may prove to be a turning point, revealing the significant role that political loyalty plays in the entertainment industry and the challenges that artists face when their political affiliations are called into question.
Give Ghanaians a break at the pump to kickstart the economy and secure Ghana’s energy future
President Mahama can start on a very good note by reducing prices of fuel.
The price of crude oil globally ended the Year 2024 in the low $70s per barrel. At this price, the government should seize the opportunity to reduce the prices of fuel and reset the economy. The high price of fuel and food has led to high inflation and high cost of living.
As a result, many Ghanaians are faced with unbearable hardships, with many now slipping below the poverty line. But what can the new government do to ameliorate living standards when the world crude oil price is low? Most importantly, reduce the prices of fuel to relieve Ghanaians of the economic hardships.
According to BBC news, Ghana’s vote during the election brings to an end a remarkable 12 months in African politics, which have seen five transfers of power – more than ever before. This “annus horribilis” for governments has now also brought opposition victories in Botswana, Mauritius, Senegal and the self-declared republic of Somaliland.
As stated by BBC news, even beyond these results almost every election held in the region this year under reasonably democratic conditions, has seen the governing party lose a significant number of seats.
BBC attributed this trend to a combination of factors:
• the economic downturn
• growing public intolerance of corruption
• and the emergence of increasingly assertive and well-co-ordinated opposition parties.
The global crude oil price has presently cooled down. But factors such as geopolitical situations in Middle East and Russia war with Ukraine could drive crude oil price back up.
Instead of Ghanaians enjoying the reduction in crude oil price we are faced with the same high prices of fuel. The new government could take advantage of the opportunity presented by the market. Thus, offering Ghanaians the relief they need at the pump.
What the new government needs is a long term purchase plan to source petroleum products. Ghana should hedge the price of these products with a reliable refinery and sign a long term contract.
This will protect the country against the fluctuations of fuel prices due to volatility of world crude oil market and stabilize the economy.
The necessary steps must be taken urgently by the new government to give Ghanaians a break at the pump. And take advantage of the opportunity presented by the market to purchase fuel at a reduced price. Thereby passing the benefits of the cost reduction of crude oil to Ghanaians.
Potentially, prices of most common petroleum products would be reduced and stabilized with a long term contract with a reliable refinery. This will ensure Ghanaians benefit from the reduction of the world crude oil price and secure our energy future.

Baba Sadiq trends after Stonebwoy dropped from NDC victory concert
Following the NDC’s decision to drop Stonebwoy from their election victory concert, one of the reasons given for the development was that a section of NDC supporters expressed dissatisfaction, citing speculation about his alleged ties to the opposing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
However, many netizens have pointed to the possibility that Baba Sadiq, Stonebwoy’s nemesis, could be the mastermind behind the situation.
Baba Sadiq, an influential figure in the entertainment industry and the NDC Parliamentary candidate for Okaikoi Central, has had a long-standing feud with Stonebwoy throughout 2024, and they are currently not on good terms.
Some netizens predicted that when the NDC finally comes to power, Stonebwoy may not be favoured under the administration, as Baba Sadiq, an active member of the party, could go to great lengths to block his opportunities.
Currently contesting the Okaikoi Central seat in court, some netizens have speculated that things could worsen for Stonebwoy if Baba Sadiq eventually becomes an MP or even the creative arts minister under the John Mahama-led government.
Amid these speculations, the recent decision to drop Stonebwoy from the NDC’s upcoming concert has led many to believe that the ‘sabotage’ of Stonebwoy’s career may have already begun.
The Rift Between Baba Sadiq and Stonebwoy
The feud between Baba Sadiq and Stonebwoy began when Stonebwoy failed to show up at Baba Sadiq’s 3Music Sallahfest event, citing a breach of contract.
Stonebwoy explained that there was an earlier agreement with Baba Sadiq not to share flyers for the concert because it was a charitable event and not a paid one.
However, Stonebwoy claimed that Baba Sadiq went ahead and shared the flyers, leading him to cancel his participation just days before the concert.
On the other hand, Baba Sadiq explained that Stonebwoy didn’t show up because he was unhappy that his music rival, Shatta Wale, was also billed to perform at the same event.
The Artiste of the Year saga
Baba Sadiq further escalated his feud with Stonebwoy during the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, where he campaigned vigorously against Stonebwoy, tipping King Promise for the “Artiste of the Year” title.
Baba Sadiq argued that Stonebwoy didn’t deserve the award, claiming that King Promise, his key contender, was more deserving.
He took to social media and appeared on radio and TV discussion platforms to publicly support King Promise for the win while disparaging Stonebwoy’s achievements in the year under review.
The alleged threat and Baba Sadiq’s rants
As the online tension between the two went on, Baba Sadiq alleged that Stonebwoy had placed a call to his wife, threatening her to “keep him in check.”
Baba Sadiq expressed his displeasure, saying that Stonebwoy had disrespected his wife by involving her in their feud.
Further rants, allegations, and lawsuit
Baba Sadiq intensified his attacks, describing Stonebwoy’s public personality as a “facade” and alleging that the BHIM Nation boss was a “privately horrible and arrogant person.”
He also accused Stonebwoy of being a “violent abuser of women.”
In response to these allegations, Stonebwoy filed a lawsuit against Baba Sadiq, seeking GH¢3 million in damages for defamation.
Baba Sadiq, on the other hand, remained resolute and expressed no regret for his actions or statements.

Court remands forex trader over alleged fraud, theft
The Accra Circuit Court 9 has remanded 35-year-old trader Benjamin Appiah Boateng into police custody for allegedly defrauding two individuals of USD300,000 and GHC10,445,000 through fraudulent online investments.
Boateng reportedly took the funds from Mr Berry Kwadwo Agyapong and Mr David Burke by promising to invest them in UDST and Binance cryptocurrency platforms.
His plea was not taken, as he is under investigation for stealing and fraud.
Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, who presided over the case, ordered Boateng to appear in court again on January 13, 2025.
Police Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer informed the court that both complainants, Mr Burke, a businessman, and Mr Agyapong, a business consultant, reside in Accra.
Boateng, a trader from Oyibi, was introduced to Mr Burke by Mr Agyapong as a Forex trader specialising in online investments in UDST and cryptocurrency.
At the time of the introduction, Mr. Agyapong had already invested approximately USD300,000 in UDST and Binance.
Mr Agyapong convinced Mr Burke of the investment’s profitability and steady dividend returns, leading Mr Burke to invest an initial sum of GHC555,000.
Subsequently, Mr Burke gave Boateng an additional GHC9,890,000 to increase the investment further.
According to Chief Inspector Lawer, Boateng assured both complainants that the investments were progressing well and that dividends were being paid out as promised.
However, on December 14, 2024, Mr Burke requested to end the investment, asking for the return of his total capital and any available dividends.
The court heard that upon Mr Burke’s request to end the investments, Boateng stopped answering phone calls from both complainants.
This led Mr. Burke to contact Mr. Agyapong about the accused’s behaviour.
When Mr Agyapong called Boateng to inquire why he had been ignoring their calls, Boateng reportedly sent a WhatsApp voice note along with a purported suicide note.
In the note, Boateng claimed that he had gambled away their entire investments on an online gambling platform called “Stake.”
A report was made to the police, which led to Boateng’s arrest.
During questioning, he admitted to the offences.

Legon Cities officially appoints Yaw Acheampong as new head coach
By Simon Asare
Accra, Jan. 3, GNA – Legon Cities have officially announced the appointment of Yaw Acheampong as their new Head Coach.
Acheampong takes over from Paa Kwesi Fabin, whose contract was terminated following a poor run of results.
The experienced tactician would be hoping to guide the ‘Royals’ to safety as they are currently rock bottom of the league with 11 points.
Acheampong would be yearning for a good start with the club when they play Accra Hearts of Oak later on Friday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Acheampong was recently dismissed as head coach of Aduana Stars after inconsistent results in the ongoing 2024-25 Ghana Premier League.
It would certainly be a tough task for Acheampong as he seeks to rescue Legon Cities, who have some tough upcoming fixtures.

Akufo-Addo has no legacy, he only praises himself
Member of Parliament for Odododiodioo, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has criticised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, alleging that the outgoing president has no substantial legacy to his name as his tenure comes to an end.
Vanderpuye accused the president of relying on self-praise and exaggerated claims of achievements rather than delivering tangible results.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, January 3, 2025, the MP remarked, “The President was consistent in one thing: praising himself when he didn’t deserve praise and also presenting figures and scenarios that were not factual.”
Vanderpuye also took aim at the President’s track record in sports development, describing it as disappointing. He argued that the sector, under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership, suffered neglect and failed to meet the expectations of Ghanaians.
The MP’s remarks come as the President delivered his final State of the Nation Address, reflecting on his administration’s performance over the past eight years.
“On the issue of sports, for example, a president who always wants to be seen as a person who is perfect and has performed excellently. In the area of sports where he has performed so poorly, how would you want him to talk about it? This is because he accepts the fact that sports is one area where he has performed so poorly.
“Youth development is also one area the government has performed so poorly. This is because in spite of all the so-called interventions; NABCO, planting for food and jobs, all indicators show that the president failed in those areas.”
The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, presented his final State of the Nations Address in Parliament on Friday, January 3.
In his presentation, Akufo-Addo stated that serving as the President of Ghana has been the greatest honour of his life, describing it as one marked by significant challenges and triumphs.
He acknowledged that his time in office had demanded his full energy, commitment, and love for the country.
Corruption claims against my appointees were probed, dismissed – Akufo-Addo
Wicked games in NPP: Two MPs hire ‘Assassins’ to dirty Napo’s character
Even before the 11-member review committee, put together by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to look into what went wrong in the 2024 elections will commence work, assassinating the characters of certain key people, have been planned already.
Two Members of Parliament (MPs), one from the Ashanti Region, a female, who is part of the NPP Caucus Leadership in Parliament and her Colleague from one of the constituencies in the Kwahu area of the Eastern Region, have engaged some youth to embark on mudslinging of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, NPP running mate for the 2024 Presidential Elections.
Election 2024: Sovereignty at play
I sat at home, in my couch, sipping a cup of coffee, and wondering;
On 19 Starfish Avenue, on that Election Day, December 7, and pondering;
Will the Supreme Court, again, declare a winner?
Or will the election be won at the polling station?
Will violence again characterize the election?
Has the electorate been enticed with bank notes?
Or will ballot snatching, ballot stuffing and ballot printing be strategies to uphold?
Hmm, I was uncertain and afraid on that December seven;
On that cagy election day, full of tension
So much hope, I knew, for the incumbent government, there was;
So much promises, I knew, this government, made
But deep down l knew we are in sorrow;
We need to vote for a better tomorrow.
To undo the seductive promise of one district one factory;
And to untie the decoy of one million dollar for each constituency;
And thank God our conscience guided our vote;
Ending our collective anger and democratic revolt.
The electorate overwhelmingly, and without mercy, kicked against the massive loot;
And overwhelmingly did so, and without pity, with the power of their thumb, in the voting booth.
And thank God for Dr Bawumia’s statesmanlike early concession speech too.
Oh! Thank the heavens, the surveillance of our men in uniform was second to none
Preventing the Electoral Commission to outfox was meticulously done
But yes! Still, six died, in our young election democracy
Even when ballot stuffing and ballot snatching were cleverly and vigilantly aborted in our polity
But all in all the politics of impertinency and trickery has given way to the politics of civility and serenity
The electorate did not give the Supreme Court this time to declare the winner in our society
Above all, our people manifested that The Sovereignty of Ghana resides in the people of Ghana
And in the name of the people, the President elect and his NDC government shall exercise the powers of government
Indeed, a sense of hope rebounds.
A sense of patriotism makes a come back
As I sip my last coffee, I say May God bless our young polity and enhance its values of democracy.

Watch as First Lady confronts Deputy Minority Leader Armah-Kofi Buah over his criticism of Akufo-Addo
Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah [L] and First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo
First Lady H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of President Nana Akufo-Addo, clearly did not take kindly to the harsh words used by Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah in criticizing her husband’s performance over the last eight years.
The MP, in his remarks following the President’s delivery of the State of the Nation Address on Friday, January 2025 — the President’s last before exiting office on December 7 — stated that the outgoing leader had failed to deliver effectively. He described President Akufo-Addo’s eight years in office as clear evidence of his inability to govern the nation effectively.
“Let me remind His Excellency that his tenure in office will remain a timely reminder of how not to govern a country,” he stated.
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah further claimed that the President’s poor performance was resoundingly reflected in the December elections.
“This abysmal record was confirmed on December 7th when the people of Ghana delivered the most overwhelming and emphatic vote of rejection any government has ever witnessed in the Fourth Republic,” he added.
The Deputy Minority Leader also criticized the President for reckless borrowing and mismanagement of state funds.
“Mr. President, you will be remembered as the first President who was cautioned by the IMF when you began, and you are still being cautioned at the end of your term. You left something very important out of your account — your promise to God to build a cathedral. But, Mr. President, I will leave that between you and your God,” he remarked.
In response, First Lady H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo confronted Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah about his remarks as she was leaving the chamber.
A video shared on the social media platform X shows the First Lady, visibly displeased, angrily addressing the MP for Ellembele while the President’s team was leaving Parliament after signing the chronicle.
In another video, Mrs. Akufo-Addo is seen briefly walking out on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin. She is heard mumbling, “You sit there and allow people to speak anyhow.”

Shatta Wale and I share similar traits, suffered same fate because we are non-conformists – Asamoah
Shatta Wale and Asamoah Gyan were classmates at the Seven Great Princess Academy
In his recent rants online, former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan opened up on the challenges he has faced due to his ‘realness’ and non-conformity while drawing comparisons to Shatta Wale, whom he believes has experienced a similar fate.
What began as a reaction to the Kantamanto fire incident took a personal turn when Asamoah Gyan began discussing how his genuine nature and refusal to conform have often made him a target of hatred and disrespect.
This led to him referencing Shatta Wale, stating that both of them share certain traits when it comes to dealing with hatred and staying true to themselves.
Buttressing his points further, he also mentioned that people, including some legends whom he has achieved more than, often take his humility for granted.
Asamoah Gyan said he usually keeps such people in check, even if it leads to being labeled disrespectful, a trait he believes Shatta Wale also possesses.
“I’ve achieved more than some of my colleagues, but when I see them, I respect them. Because I respect them, they try to disrespect me and take me for granted. But when they do, I quickly let them know that they cannot try that with me. I make them aware that I have achieved more than them, and it’s out of respect that I obey them,” Gyan explained.
He continued, “That is how Shatta Waleis. When Shatta Wale sees Reggie Rockstone and other legends, he will bow down. It doesn’t mean he is stupid. But when those legends step on his toes, he will insult them to remind them of their place. That guy, watch his life and watch mine. It’s a natural gift.”
Asamoah Gyan further emphasised his belief that he has always been “the chosen one,” receiving opportunities amidst millions of others.
“From my infancy, I’ve always been favoured and chosen for opportunities. You can ask around. It’s a gift that no one can take away from me. I always stand out. Out of thousands, and millions, I’m often the chosen one. That’s how Shatta Wale is. Sometimes, I get shocked by these personal traits,” he stated.
The former Black Stars captain then recounted how years ago, after the success of Shatta Wale’s “Bandana” track, the artiste was blacklisted by the music industry because he refused to conform and remained true to himself.
“When he released ‘Bandana,’ it blew up and he was happy. But fast forward a year or two, I saw Nii Armah (Shatta Wale) on the streets looking dirty and unkempt. According to the facts I gathered, at that time, Shatta Waledidn’t comply with the industry’s expectations. He is a real person. You can’t tell him what to do, so people in the industry wanted to control him. Because he didn’t allow that, they cut his music off from the mainstream media and sabotaged him to the point where he went broke,” Asamoah Gyan said.
He added, “He was from a rich home but decided to go on the streets. I was coming back from training when I saw him, and I parked and cried. My classmate, who after the ‘Bandana’ hit was looking like that, I was hurt. So, I stopped in front of Blue Lagoon, where he stayed with his friends, and interacted with him. I asked what happened, and he said, ‘Life happened.’”

Court to decide on NPP’s mandamus application today
The High Court will today, Saturday, January 4, deliver its ruling on the mandamus application filed by the NPP concerning the constituencies of Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North.
This decision follows the court’s earlier dismissal of an objection by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which questioned the court’s jurisdiction to entertain the application.
Lawyers for the NPP argued that the Electoral Commission (EC) should be compelled to complete the collation of results in the affected constituencies. Gary Nimako, leading the team of lawyers for the NPP candidates, stated that the EC had failed to complete the collation process between December 8, 2024, and January 1, 2025.
Describing this delay as unreasonable, Nimako emphasized that constituents in these areas have a right to know the results and the winning candidates.
He further argued that while the NDC claims declarations were made in the affected constituencies, there is no evidence to support this assertion. Addressing video evidence presented in court, Nimako contended that the purported declaration in Tema Central was made by an individual other than the returning officer, which constitutes a breach of the law.
Nimako cited Regulation 43 of C.I. 127, which stipulates that results must be documented on Forms 1C and 1D of the Electoral Commission. He argued that the absence of these forms in the exhibits corroborates the claim that proper declarations were not made.
He also noted that the Electoral Commission itself acknowledged that the declarations were made without completing the collation of polling station results.
The Electoral Commission, represented by Justin Amenuvor, supported the NPP’s application and urged the court to order it to complete its duty. Amenuvor conceded that the collation processes in the affected constituencies remained incomplete. He warned that failure to issue such an order could set a dangerous precedent, potentially enabling unlawful interference in future elections.
Meanwhile, lawyers for the NDC candidates opposed the application. Godwin Tameklo, representing the NDC, argued that a prerequisite for granting a mandamus is a demand that has been refused. He maintained that no such demand had been made in this case.
Tameklo further referenced the video evidence, asserting that it indicated a declaration had already been made in the Tema Central case. According to him, any challenge to the validity of this declaration should be pursued through a petition, not a mandamus.
The court’s ruling on January 4, 2025, is expected to clarify the legal obligations of the Electoral Commission and the procedures for resolving electoral disputes in the affected constituencies.

A Plus urges NPP to respect the hard work of their grassroots
Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A Plus
Member of Parliament elect, Kwame Asare Obeng, known popularly as A Plus, has called out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for disregarding the effort put into the party’s victory in 2016.
He could not fathom why the political party thought the victory they chalked in 2016 was owed to work put in by one Joe Anokye.
Kwame A Plus who made this known in a social media post, said it is about time political parties respect the hard work of their grassroots in winning power.
His post said “Joe Anokye, the so-called man from NASA, who supposedly used his ‘technological expertise’ to secure victory for the NPP in 2016, couldn’t ‘NASA’ this election?
Joe Anokye, do you now see that it was the hard work of the NPP foot soldiers that won the election in 2016? When the people demand change and the grassroots work tirelessly to ensure victory, someone from the shadows suddenly appears to claim the credit. So, why couldn’t you use your ‘NASA magic’ to win this election as well? Anaa wo NASA no asa?”

Parliament summons MPs on January 7 for election of new Speaker
Parliament has summoned all Members of Parliament to convene on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 12:05 a.m.
The session will oversee the election of a new Speaker and Deputy Speakers, as well as the swearing-in of the Speaker and Members of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
This directive supersedes an earlier notice that scheduled the inauguration for Monday, January 6, at 11:00 p.m.
In a statement issued on January 3, Acting Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, clarified that the adjustment is in accordance with Article 124 of the Constitution and Order 8(2) of the Standing Orders of Parliament.
“You Sit There and Allow People to Speak Anyhow” – First Lady to Speaker Over President
Ghana’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on the 3rd of January took an unexpected turn when First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo was seen visibly upset during the proceedings. The event, held in Parliament, saw moments of tension as opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) reportedly heckled President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his address.
In a viral video from the event, the First Lady declined a hand gesture from Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin and appeared frustrated. While her words were faint, she was subtly heard saying, “You sit there and allow people to speak to [him] anyhow…”
The heckling reportedly stemmed from scepticism about the president’s claims regarding his administration’s achievements. Though NDC MPs challenged aspects of the address during the session, it was afterward that Ningo-Prampram MP Sam George made headlines. Speaking to the media, he openly called the President a “liar,” criticising the validity of certain statements made during the SONA.
The First Lady’s apparent decision to leave Parliament has been interpreted by many as a silent protest against what she viewed as a lack of respect for the presidency. Her departure has sparked mixed reactions. Some Ghanaians sympathise with her stance, arguing that Parliament should maintain decorum during such important events. Others, however, contend that parliamentary heckling and post-event critiques are natural features of a vibrant democracy.
This incident highlights the rising political tensions in Ghana as President Akufo-Addo nears the end of his tenure. While the opposition continues to critique his legacy, supporters of the administration have called for a focus on constructive dialogue rather than personal attacks or public drama.
As of now, neither the Speaker of Parliament nor the First Lady’s office has issued an official statement on the incident. However, the episode has once again brought into sharp focus the need for civility and respect in Ghana’s democratic discourse, particularly during high-profile events like the State of the Nation Address.

The incoming President, John Dramani Mahama, faces a significant challenge as an estimated $1.4 billion is needed to complete the ambitious Agenda 111 hospital infrastructure project initiated by outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The revelation came from Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who shared details on his Facebook page on January 4, 2025.
Dr. Boamah stated, “None of the Agenda 111 hospitals is functioning. Uncompleted! US$1.4 billion needed to complete.” The update was tagged under the NDC’s monitoring initiative, #EagleEye.
During his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on January 3, 2025, President Akufo-Addo urged President-elect Mahama to prioritize completing the Agenda 111 projects.
Launched during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the initiative aimed to address critical healthcare infrastructure gaps by constructing 111 district and regional hospitals, including two psychiatric facilities.
President Akufo-Addo highlighted the project’s transformative potential, describing it as a cornerstone of Ghana’s healthcare development.
“The pandemic exposed alarming shortcomings in our healthcare system. Agenda 111 was our most important intervention to ensure every district had a hospital,” he said.
He reported progress on the project, noting that work was underway at 99 district sites and two psychiatric hospitals. However, the pace of construction varied widely, with completion rates ranging from 5% to 95% across sites.
Three district hospitals were opened in December 2024, but the majority remain incomplete as the Akufo-Addo administration concludes its tenure.
The $1.4 billion price tag underscores the significant resources required to bring the project to fruition.
While President Akufo-Addo emphasized the long-term benefits of Agenda 111, its completion now hinges on the commitment and strategic planning of the incoming Mahama administration.
The NDC has criticized the handling of the project, with Dr. Boamah’s comments highlighting concerns about the initiative’s financial burden and incomplete status.
Despite this, President Akufo-Addo expressed hope that the Mahama government would see the project through to completion, ensuring it contributes to strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system.
Editor’s Note: As President-elect Mahama prepares to take office, the nation will closely watch how his administration tackles this critical aspect of Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure.

President Akufo-Addo [L] and Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin
President Nana Akufo-Addo’s presentation of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Friday, January 3, 2025, which was his last before exiting office on January 7, included a humorous moment that had Members of Parliament and other dignitaries in the House laughing.
This occurred during a playful back-and-forth between the President and Speaker Alban Bagbin.
During his presentation, the President was heckled by the Minority side, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament, after he stated that the country is not broke.
“Mr. Speaker, the country is not broke, as some propagandists want us to believe. We are handing over a country with gross international reserves of almost $8 billion. This is more than the $6.2 billion in gross international reserves my administration inherited in 2017,” President Akufo-Addo declared, prompting strong reactions from the MPs, who accused him of spreading falsehoods.
In response to the uproar, Speaker Alban Bagbin interjected, addressing the dissenting MPs: “Your statistics may be different, but that doesn’t mean he is deceiving the House.”
Unfazed by the commotion, Akufo-Addo responded with a sharp rebuttal, smiling as he addressed the MPs.
“The noise will not shatter the statistics. The statistics cannot be different. They cannot be different,” he said.
He continued, insisting with confidence that the country’s financial status was solid, adding, “The truth is indivisible; it is one and one only.”
Then, Speaker Alban Bagbin playfully responded to the President, telling him he was “out of order.”
“As an accomplished Member of Parliament, you are out of order,” Bagbin remarked with a smile.
The President laughed off the comment and continued with his speech.

Trump to be sentenced over hush money case but judge signals no jail time
A judge has ordered that Donald Trump will be sentenced on 10 January in his hush-money case in New York – less than two weeks before he is set to be sworn in as president.
New York Justice Juan Merchan signalled he would not sentence Trump to jail time, probation or a fine, but instead give him an “unconditional discharge”, and wrote in his order that the president-elect could appear in person or virtually for the hearing.
Trump had attempted to use his presidential election victory to have the case against him dismissed.
The president-elect has posted on social media dismissing the judge’s order as an “illegitimate political attack” and calling the case “nothing but a rigged charade”.
Trump was convicted in May of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to a $130,000 (£105,000) payment to adult-film star Stormy Daniels.
The charges related to attempts to cover up reimbursements to his ex-lawyer, Michael Cohen, who in the final days of the 2016 election campaign paid off the adult film star to remain silent about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump.
The president-elect has denied all wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty, arguing the case was an attempt to harm his 2024 presidential campaign.
In the post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday Trump said the judge’s sentencing order “goes against our Constitution and, if allowed to stand, would be the end of the Presidency as we know it”.
Trump’s spokesperson Steven Cheung earlier called the order part of a “witch hunt”.
“President Trump must be allowed to continue the presidential transition process and to execute the vital duties of the presidency, unobstructed by the remains of this or any remnants of the witch hunts,” Cheung said.
“There should be no sentencing, and President Trump will continue fighting against these hoaxes until they are all dead.”
In his latest motion against the case, Trump had argued the case would hang over him during his presidency and impede his ability to govern.
Justice Merchan said he had been advised of several measures he could employ that could assuage Trump’s concerns about being distracted by a criminal case while serving as president that fell short of the “extreme remedy” of overturning the jury’s verdict.
His options included delaying the sentencing until Trump, 78, leaves the White House in 2029, or guaranteeing a sentence that would not involve prison time.
Trump had initially, and unsuccessfully, argued the case against him ran afoul of a Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity.
In July, the country’s top court ruled that presidents have broad immunity from criminal prosecution for “official actions” they take while in office.
However, last month Justice Merchan ruled Trump’s hush money conviction was valid.
Trump is currently set to be the first convicted felon to serve in the White House.
He may attempt to appeal against the conviction after the sentencing.
While falsifying business records is punishable by up to four years in prison in the US, there is no minimum sentence and incarceration is not required.
Even before his election victory, legal experts thought it was unlikely Trump would face jail time given his age and his legal record.
Trump has also been charged in three other state and federal criminal cases: one involving classified documents and two relating to his alleged efforts to overturn his loss in the election of 2020.
The president-elect was initially scheduled to be sentenced on 26 November, but Justice Merchan pushed the date back after Trump won the presidential election.

Ghana scraps visa requirement for Nigerians, other Africans

Ghana has joined a few African nations to approve a new visa-free travel policy for all African passport holders, effective from this year 2025.
The outgoing President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, who would step down January 6 after spending two terms in office since 2017, announced this Friday, while delivering his address to the parliament.
Akufo-Addo said: “We have tried to make real many of the slogans that have dominated our public discourse since independence.
“I am proud to have approved visa-free travel to Ghana for all African passport holders, with effect from the beginning of this year.
“This is the logical next step to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the workings of the largest trading bloc in the world.”
Stonebwoy dropped from Ghana victory concert amidst NDC grassroots pressure
The much-anticipated Ghana Victory Concert, organized to celebrate the National Democratic Congress (NDC) win in the 2024 elections, has taken an unexpected turn.
Stonebwoy, initially announced as the headline act, has been dropped following pressure from the party’s grassroots.
Shortly after the lineup was revealed, a section of NDC supporters expressed dissatisfaction with the inclusion of the award-winning dancehall artist, citing speculation about his alleged ties to the opposing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
These concerns quickly escalated into widespread calls for his removal, placing the event organizers and the National Executive Council under immense pressure to act.
In a press statement issued today, January 3, 2025, the organizers confirmed the removal of Stonebwoy from the concert.
They apologized to the party’s supporters, acknowledging what they described as “a lack of discretion” in the initial lineup decision.
“We sincerely apologize to all members of the National Democratic Congress, particularly the grassroots, for what may have appeared to be a lack of discretion on the part of the organizers. We also extend our apologies to Stonebwoy and his team for this unfortunate outcome,” the statement read.
The backlash has also sparked discussions about which artists truly represent the party’s journey and victory.
Some supporters have suggested the inclusion of vocal NDC loyalists like Mzbel and Nero X, whose contributions to the party’s campaigns are well-known.
Stonebwoy, the reigning TGMA Artist of the Year, has yet to comment on the development.

Ghanaians hail NAPO for his professionalism to rescue Akufo-Addo’s collapsed bodyguard
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh
President Nana Akufo-Addo’s presentation of his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) before leaving office took a dramatic turn on Friday, January 3, 2025, when his bodyguard collapsed while the President was speaking in Parliament.
The bodyguard, positioned close to the podium, began to show signs of distress during the President’s address. At first, it seemed like a minor issue, but as moments passed, it became evident that the situation was serious. To the shock and alarm of the gathered Members of Parliament, the guard stumbled, lost his balance, and ultimately collapsed.
Security personnel near the podium quickly rushed to assist him. Staff from the National Ambulance Service stepped in, escorting the guard out of the chamber for further medical attention.
The incident brought all activities in the chamber to an abrupt halt. Though clearly affected by the unexpected event, the President paused briefly before resuming his speech.
In a noteworthy moment, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the outgoing New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and the party’s Vice Presidential Candidate in the just-ended 2024 Presidential election, stepped forward to assist. Dr. Opoku Prempeh, a trained surgeon, directed the medical team to lay the bodyguard on the floor, allowing him to provide immediate care while awaiting further emergency services.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s swift action has garnered widespread praise, particularly on social media platforms like X (formerly known as Twitter). Many users commended his professionalism and quick thinking in a moment of crisis.
An account user@GrefDuah praised NAPO for putting his medical prowess to bear to salvage the situation.

Watch as First lady confronts Dep. Minority Leader Armah-Kofi Buah over his criticism of President Akufo- Addo

Agenda 111 hospitals – Akufo-Addo hands over vision to Mahama
President-elect John Mahama [L] and outgoing President Akufo-Addo
Outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appealed to President-elect John Dramani Mahama to prioritize completing the “Agenda 111” hospital project, a flagship initiative aimed at transforming Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure.
Speaking to Parliament on January 3 during his final State of the Nation Address (SONA), Akufo-Addo highlighted the importance of the project, describing it as a critical component of efforts to strengthen the country’s health system.
“The most important intervention is the Agenda 111 project that we have embarked upon. I am hoping that the incoming Mahama administration will ensure the project is completed so we can have our health infrastructure in a sound state,” he stated.
He emphasized the groundwork his administration had laid and expressed optimism that the initiative would be carried forward.
“Over the years, I have worked diligently to build a reliable health system. I am optimistic that this initiative will be seen through to the end for the benefit of all Ghanaians,” he added.
The Agenda 111 initiative was launched to address gaps in healthcare by constructing 111 district hospitals and two psychiatric facilities across Ghana.
While three hospitals have been commissioned and several others are at varying stages of completion, progress on many sites remains slow. Limited funding and logistical challenges have delayed the project, leaving a significant portion still in the early construction phases.

We made history together – Akufo-Addo applauds Bagbin
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin [L] and President Akufo-Addo
Outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has hailed the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, for his outstanding leadership during one of the most unprecedented political eras in Ghana’s democratic history.
In his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on January 3, 2025, Akufo-Addo reflected on the challenges he faced working with a Parliament that had the slimmest of majorities and a Speaker who represented the opposition party, making their collaboration both unique and complex.
“Mr. Speaker, you and I have made history of a kind these past four years, and I must acknowledge the role you played in keeping steady the ship of state and the governance structures of our country,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
His comments underscored the significant achievements in governance, despite the challenges posed by a divided Parliament and an opposition Speaker.
The term under review has been historically notable for the tight control of the majority in Parliament, which led to frequent partisan tensions and complex negotiations between the Executive and the Legislature.
This situation, which many thought would result in dysfunction or deadlock, instead became an opportunity for collaboration and compromise.
Akufo-Addo acknowledged that the government’s success during this period was, in part, due to the leadership and impartiality demonstrated by Speaker Bagbin.
“Mr. Speaker, we found a way to accommodate each other, and the government functioned successfully,” the President concluded.

Osudoku youth denounce malicious attacks on Deputy IGP Yohuno
Deputy IGP, COP Tetteh Yohuno
The youth of Osudoku in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region has strongly condemned recent social media allegations about COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Describing the accusations as “untrue, unsubstantiated, and malicious,” the youth claim these reports are part of a calculated effort to tarnish Mr. Yohuno’s reputation and undermine his contributions to national security.
In a statement, the Osudoku Youth referenced a lawsuit involving Sergeant David Ojeyim, who allegedly implicated Mr. Yohuno in his refusal to obey a police directive.
However, the youth clarified that court documents reveal a different narrative.
According to them, Inspector General of Police George Akuffo Dampare, not Mr. Yohuno, interfered with official duties by reassigning officers under Mr. Yohuno’s command without proper justification.
“We encourage all well-meaning Ghanaians to read the court affidavit themselves to uncover the truth,” the group stated.
The youth also accused Mr. Dampare of orchestrating a campaign to derail Mr. Yohuno’s career.
This, they alleged, includes covert recordings by security analyst Adam Bonaa, a failed lawsuit challenging Mr Yohuno’s appointment, and deliberate exclusion from key police operations, such as the recent general election.
The statement further alleged that Mr Dampare’s actions have intensified following the opposition NDC’s victory in the general elections.
According to the youth, recent publications by individuals like Owula Mangortey and MP elect and social commentator Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus) falsely claim that Mr Yohuno conspired to rig the elections in favour of the NPP.
“These baseless accusations are intended to create public disaffection for Mr Yohuno and to block his chances of becoming IGP,” the youth asserted.
The Osudoku Youth hailed Mr Yohuno as a “man of proven integrity” who has risen through the police ranks due to hard work, discipline, and principled leadership.
They emphasized his reputation for fairness, professionalism, and dedication to duty, calling on the public to reject the “horrendous disinformation” being peddled against him.
Quoting scriptures from Romans 12:19 and Proverbs 26:24, the youth urged Mr. Yohuno to remain steadfast, leaving vengeance to God.
“We believe the truth will prevail, and those behind these malicious acts will be exposed,” they added.
The group also expressed disappointment in the police administration for failing to investigate what they described as “heinous crimes” of misinformation and propaganda, suggesting that the IGP himself might be the beneficiary of these schemes.
They concluded by urging Ghanaians to treat such publications with the “contempt they deserve” and reaffirmed their unwavering support for COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

During the State of the Nation Address, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, voiced his concern about the unsettling event in which President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s personal security guard, Colonel Isaac Amponsah, fainted in Parliament.
Colonel Amponsah, the President’s ADC since February 2023, apparently experienced a medical issue on January 3, 2025, while the President was speaking to Parliament.
The medical response team responded quickly to the situation, which caused a brief pause in operations.
In response to the concerning incident, Dafeamekpor has called it a dangerous scenario that exposed significant weaknesses in the nation’s emergency response procedures.
He emphasized that there were serious concerns about the nation’s readiness to manage such crises during state functions given the absence of an effective and prompt medical response.
He also took issue with President Akufo-Addo’s decision to go on with his speech without expressing regret for the tragedy or sympathy for his aide’s family.
Furthermore, this horrific event highlights the obvious shortcomings in our State Protocol Apparatus concerning Emergency Response Measures during State Functions.
What if, as we witnessed, the President had abruptly collapsed himself? The “crumbled soldier” was not given enough emergency care. Moments after the collapse, Dafeamekpor posted on X, “We have areas to improve and work to do as a people.”
The nation’s emergency medical response system needs immediate revisions, he added, in order to handle similar situations quickly and effectively and avert any future tragedies.
Dafeamekpor also apologized to Colonel Isaac Amponsah and wished him a speedy and complete recovery.
