Nyaho-Tamakloe slams NPP over premature flagbearer election

0

Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is a founding member of the NPP Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is a founding member of the NPP

A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has criticised the party’s decision to elect a presidential candidate before reorganising its internal structures.

He described the move as unconstitutional and strategically flawed.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe argued that the decision to select a flagbearer ahead of electing new national, regional, constituency, and polling station executives violates the party’s constitution.

He warned that such actions signal weak leadership and internal dysfunction.

“In a party that has just lost a major election, it is critical to conduct a thorough analysis of what went wrong. Rushing to elect a presidential candidate without honest reflection is a mistake. This process appears to be skewed in favour of a particular individual, ignoring genuine concerns raised by notable party figures”, he said.

In an adomonline.com report on June 21, 2025, he questioned the credibility of the current party leadership, blaming them for the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

According to him, the existing executives lack the moral authority to lead a credible reorganisation process.

“The leadership that led the party into defeat cannot be trusted to conduct a credible process that aims at returning the party to power in 2028. We need a transparent, inclusive approach that strictly adheres to the party’s constitution if we are serious about rebuilding the NPP”, he indicated.

Woman killed in tragic accident at Bortianor bus stop on Mallam-Kasoa highway Woman killed in tragic accident at Bortianor bus stop on Mallam-Kasoa highway

A tragic road accident at the Bortianor bus stop on the Mallam-Kasoa highway has claimed the life of a woman attempting to cross the busy road.

The incident involved a long truck, with registration number WR 1475-13, which struck the victim while she stood on by the road.

According to adomonline.com report on June 21, 2025, the driver of the truck had swerved off the main carriageway in an attempt to avoid colliding with other vehicles that had stopped to allow pedestrians to cross.

In the process, the truck fatally ran over the woman.

“The woman didn’t see the truck coming because this road lacks adequate lighting. From Mallam Junction to Kasoa, the streetlights are there, but they don’t work. It’s extremely dangerous for people crossing at night,” a bystander stated.

The accident has once again raised alarms over pedestrian safety and poor infrastructure on one of Accra’s busiest road corridors.

The lack of functional streetlights and designated pedestrian crossings has made nighttime travel particularly perilous for both motorists and pedestrians.

Residents and commuters are calling on local authorities and the Ghana Highways Authority to urgently fix the faulty streetlights and implement comprehensive road safety measures to prevent further loss of life.

“Overwhelming Support” – 98% of NPP Council Voted for 2026 Primaries, Says Miracles

0

Director of Communications for the Bawumia 2024 Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has revealed that 98% of National Council members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) supported the proposed date for the party’s presidential primaries as reported by Citinewsroom.

The internal elections have been scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Miracles Aboagye, speaking on Channel One TV, described the strong endorsement as evidence of internal consensus among key party stakeholders.

He cautioned against the public expression of dissenting views after such overwhelming internal agreement, calling it “completely anti-party.”

He emphasised that while divergent opinions are welcomed during internal deliberations, continuing to air them in the public space after a final decision is reached could jeopardise party cohesion.

“Now, immediately you move that dissenting view into the media space, all you are doing is planting discord in the minds of people, knowing very well that this is a minority view,” he stated.

However, the party leadership maintains that the process leading to the decision followed established guidelines.

General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Koduah, earlier affirmed that the date was recommended by the constitutional review committee and subsequently endorsed by the National Council.

He also stated that the decision was final and would not be revisited at the delegates’ conference, as the authority lies with the Council.

Maxi Iro and Blouse Fashion Styles Ideal You Will like

0

When it comes to fashion, the fusion of traditional and contemporary styles often results in unique and eye-catching ensembles. One such combination that has been making waves in the fashion world is the pairing of iro and blouses. This trend effortlessly blends the elegance of Nigerian traditional attire with modern silhouettes and designs, resulting in striking and versatile outfits that are perfect for any occasion.

The iro, a traditional Nigerian attire consisting of a floor-length wrapper skirt worn with a matching blouse, is characterized by its vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and flowing silhouette. Typically made from luxurious fabrics such as silk, chiffon, or Ankara prints, the iro exudes sophistication and cultural richness. When paired with a stylish blouse, this traditional ensemble is transformed into a contemporary and chic outfit that celebrates both heritage and modernity.

Blouses, on the other hand, come in a variety of styles, cuts, and fabrics, offering endless possibilities for mixing and matching with iro skirts. From classic button-down blouses to modern off-the-shoulder designs, there is a blouse style to complement any iro ensemble. Women can experiment with different textures, patterns, and colors to create a personalized look that reflects their individual taste and style.

One of the key advantages of iro and blouse fashion combinations is their versatility. This pairing can transition seamlessly from day to night, making it suitable for a wide range of occasions. For a casual daytime look, a flowy maxi iro skirt paired with a simple white blouse and sandals exudes effortless elegance and comfort. To elevate the outfit for a more formal event, opt for a fitted blouse with statement sleeves or embellishments, paired with a bold and colorful maxi iro skirt.

Accessories play a crucial role in enhancing the overall impact of iro and blouse ensembles. Statement jewelry, such as bold earrings or a chunky necklace, can add a touch of glamour and sophistication to the outfit. Additionally, a stylish belt cinched at the waist can accentuate the silhouette and create a more structured look. Completing the ensemble with a pair of heels or wedges adds the perfect finishing touch, creating a polished and put-together look.

In conclusion, iro and blouse fashion styles offer a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, resulting in elegant and chic outfits that are both timeless and versatile. Whether you’re looking to make a bold fashion statement or simply elevate your everyday style, this trend allows for endless creativity and experimentation. So why not embrace the beauty and cultural richness of maxi iro skirts paired with stylish blouses and elevate your fashion game to new heights?

Early presidential primaries in party’s interest – Miracles

0

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the 2024 Bawumia Campaign Team, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to support the decision to hold early presidential primaries, describing it as a move that serves the greater good of the party.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Big Issue on Saturday, June 21, he stated that the National Council’s approval of January 31, 2026, as the date for the presidential primaries reflects a broader strategic vision for party unity and stability.

“I think it is in the interest of the party and anybody who has the NPP at heart to support this idea. We are reducing the picture to individual interest, and that is a problem. The National Council is looking at the bigger picture,” he said.

He emphasised that much of the disagreement surrounding the date stems from personal ambitions rather than the party’s long-term welfare, warning that such internal divisions could stall progress.

“If you are running a group, and you decide to rely on pure individual interest, you will never make progress. Our views will always differ. But we must be able to sacrifice the few for the greater good.”

His comments come in response to internal criticism of the party’s timeline, particularly after the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, announced that the date was proposed by the Constitution Review Committee and ratified by the National Council.

Koduah also clarified that the decision will not be referred back to the delegates’ conference for another round of approval.

While the early primaries have sparked debate within the NPP, Miracles and other party communicators insist the timeline is necessary to ensure a smooth transition, resolve internal disputes, and prepare adequately for the 2028 general elections.

Nkwant (O/R), June 21, GNA – Mr. Joseph Awal Antwi, Municipal Chief Executive for Nkwanta South, has engaged renowned youth advocate and entrepreneur, Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu in Accra, to explore potential collaborations in youth and sports development.

The MCE highlighted the urgent need for a dedicated sports complex in Nkwanta South to harness and develop the talents of young people.

He emphasized that many young people in the municipality were passionate about sports, but the lack of standard facilities limited their opportunities.

Mr. Antwi noted that a well-equipped sports complex would provide structured recreational opportunities, reduce youth involvement in social vices, and create employment opportunities.

Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Afro Arab Group of companies, applauded the MCE’s hands-on leadership approach and encouraged him to formalize the concept through a detailed proposal.

The MCE will lead the drafting of a formal proposal, including technical details, potential locations, and community testimonies.

Ambassador Amadu expressed openness to reviewing the proposal and encouraged continued dialogue around youth empowerment.

Legal Analyst Predicts NDC Victory if NPP Fields Bawumia in 2028

0

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has warned that the New Patriotic Party risks an electoral defeat if it nominates Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.

Speaking on Accra-based TV3, Kpebu argued the Vice President squandered opportunities to rebuild public trust during his tenure, instead offering justifications for government shortcomings rather than accountability.

Kpebu suggested the NPP should instead groom a younger candidate in their 40s for the 2032 elections, claiming the party stands little chance in the next electoral cycle.

His comments come as internal NPP debates intensify about the party’s future leadership direction following recent electoral setbacks.

The analysis highlights growing concerns within political circles about the NPP’s ability to refresh its leadership and reconnect with Ghanaian voters.

NPP Race: The party needs deep reflection on the path it intends to pursue – Prof. Bokpin

0

Professor of Finance and Economics at the University of Ghana, Professor Godfred A. Bokpin, has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to take a critical look at its current internal election strategy as it prepares to choose a flagbearer for the 2028 general election.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, on Saturday, June 21, Prof. Bokpin expressed concern about the party’s decision to elect a flagbearer before completing elections for other leadership positions at the lower levels of the party.

He believes this approach could affect the unity and strength of the party ahead of the next polls.

“The little I know about Ghana’s politics is that, when it comes to democratic principles, we look to the NPP and how they’ve done it over the years in terms of building the party,” he said.

“A strong party with its structures is most likely to deliver a strong leader that can take them to the next elections.”

He added that the traditional process involves electing polling station, constituency, and regional executives first, before choosing a presidential candidate. However, the NPP appears to be reversing this order, and that, he said, may not serve the party’s best interests.

“I have not followed it closely, but it looks to me that they want to do it the other way round. They now want to elect the flagbearer before they go through the process of electing the other leaders at the lower level,” he noted.

“I am not too sure this will work for the party… whether the current leadership from national to regional to polling station level actually resonate with the grassroots so that we can rely on those ones to choose the flagbearer for us.”

Prof. Bokpin cautioned that while the party’s constitution may allow it to proceed in this order, it should reflect on the broader implications.

“You may use the law to justify this path, but anytime you want to use the law purely to solve every problem, you may miss out on so many things,” he said.

“Your constitution may allow you to do this, but I think you should reflect broadly to ensure that whoever is elected is actually popular within the party, and the party structures can work with the person.”

He also raised concerns about possible internal motives for fast-tracking the flagbearer race. “There is a certain suspicion, I could be wrong, that perhaps this may be done to work to the advantage of a candidate whose popularity may decline if the process takes longer.”

In his view, such a move could affect internal harmony if not managed carefully. “The party should be careful because at the end of the day, you will need the entire party working well in a coordinated manner.”

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, on June 20, 2025, reported an incident to the Presiding Speaker of the House, Lawyer Andrews Asiamah, concerning events that transpired in the chamber.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the National Chairman of the ruling government the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, entered the parliamentary chamber to take photographs with 80 Members of Parliament from the NDC as part of his campaign to succeed President John Dramani Mahama.

While addressing the Speaker, Afenyo-Markin questioned whether such conduct was permitted within the rules of the House.

“Mr Speaker, you suspended the House for five minutes, and during that period, our colleagues allowed their National Chairman to enter the chamber to take pictures as part of his campaign, having garnered the support of the NDC MPs.

“The National Chairman of the NDC, who has declared his intention to succeed President Mahama, entered the chamber. Mr Speaker, 60 NDC MPs initially took pictures with him. I am told that number later rose to 80.

“Mr Speaker, I want the Chairman to know that the 80 is not enough, he should get more to make him the preferred candidate. But Mr Speaker, to conclude, I want to know whether the rules of this House allow such actions.”

In response, the Speaker sought the opinion of the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga regarding the incident.

The Majority Leader confirmed the occurrence and described Asiedu Nketiah as a familiar face in the chamber.

“Mr Speaker, I saw some NPP members struggling to take pictures with him. Mr Speaker, I saw it with my own eyes.”

“And Mr speaker before he entered the house the leader himself, rushed to received him, I was there. But Mr speaker …. he is allowed to enter the chamber, the chairman of the NPP is also allowed.”

Creating Stylish Bonds Through Fashion

0

Fashion is more than just clothes—it’s a way of expressing personality, values, and, when it comes to family, unity. One of the heartwarming trends gaining popularity in recent years is matching outfits for father and son. This not only strengthens the bond between parent and child but also creates lasting memories captured in everyday life and special occasions.

Wearing coordinated outfits symbolizes connection and pride in the relationship. For fathers, it’s a unique opportunity to serve as a role model—not just in actions, but in style too. For sons, matching their dad fosters a sense of identity and admiration. Whether it’s for a family photo shoot, a casual weekend outing, or a formal event, matching outfits add charm and sentimentality to any moment.

One of the easiest ways to coordinate looks is through casual wear. Think matching graphic t-shirts, denim jackets, or polo shirts paired with jeans or shorts. A popular look includes wearing similar sneakers or caps. These outfits are comfortable and perfect for day trips, park visits, or running errands together.

For weddings, church services, or formal parties, father-son duos can look sharp in matching suits or coordinated dress shirts and slacks. Even a shared accessory, like a tie or bowtie in the same color or pattern, can make a strong visual connection. Monochrome tones or classic black-and-white suits are timeless options that work for all ages.

Seasonal outfits, such as matching Christmas sweaters, Halloween costumes, or summer beachwear, are also popular. These playful, themed styles allow for creativity and bring festive fun into the family wardrobe.

In conclusion, matching outfits for father and son are more than a fashion statement—they’re a celebration of family, identity, and togetherness. With endless style options available, it’s easy to find looks that fit both comfort and occasion, helping dads and sons create stylish, unforgettable memories together.

OSP vs Ofori-Atta: I hope investigation is driven by patriotism not personal vendetta

Ransford Gyampo is the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority Ransford Gyampo is the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority

The acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Prof Ransford Gyampo, has stated that he hopes the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng has no bone to pick with the embattled former Minister of Finance, Kenneth Ofori-Atta but he is pursuing the matter out of patriotism.

According to Prof Gyampo, if it is not out of patriotism, then it will not augur well for the reputation of Agyebeng.

Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints on June 21, 2025, Prof Gyampo made this remark while contributing to discussions on the topic on the OSP’s probe of the minister.

Prof Gyampo’s comment comes after some analysts have suggested that Agyebeng should explore other means to get the required information from Ofori-Atta instead of declaring him wanted.

“I hope the OSP is not motivated by vendetta but out of patriotism,” he said.

It would be recalled that Ofori-Atta’s lawyers offered for him to be interrogated through video conferencing, but the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) rejected the offer on the basis that the former Finance Minister has not been charged yet.

There was another suggestion that the OSP should go to wherever Ofori-Atta is and interrogate him.

This was also rejected on the basis that it would cost the taxpayer money to do so.

Reacting to this development, Prof Gyampo stated that caution must be exercised on the issue which has now become sensitive due to the health condition of the former minister.

“it is important to find out if Mr Ofori-Atta is not sick. Because being sick is not an easy matter,” he stated.

“And the OSP, they have in the past started so dramatically but, in the end, we saw nothing. Look at the Cecilia Dapaah case,” he added.

The OSP is investigating Ofori-Atta in link to five high-profile cases during his tenure under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The main cases for which Ken Ofori-Atta is being investigated for include: Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance, Contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Electricity Company Contract Termination, National Cathedral Project to mention a few.

20 final-year students of Ada Senior High School in the Greater Accra Region have been dismissed after sneaking off campus to swim in a nearby river, an act that tragically led to the death of one of their colleagues.

A viral video circulated on social media on Saturday, June 21, 2025, captured the students being addressed during an assembly.

In the footage, a woman believed to be the headmistress detailed the disciplinary action.

“Your parents will come and wait patiently for you. When you finish, they will take you back till you are done with your WASSCE papers. If your parents do not have time, that one is between you and them. It is your business,” she told the students.

Reports indicate that the body of the deceased student has since been retrieved, and investigations into the matter have commenced.

The drowning incident at Ada SHS comes shortly after a similar tragedy at Lawra Senior High School in the Upper West Region.

According to him, while the drop in PPI suggests easing cost pressures on producers, the improvement must be sustained over time before it can translate into a better standard of living.

His comment follows the announcement by the Ghana Statistical Service(GSS) of a drop in the PPI from 18.5% in April to 10.25% in May 2025, the lowest rate recorded since 2023.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb Business on Saturday, June 21, 2025, Anim-Prempeh explained that if the current gains are maintained, they could potentially lead to a reduction in the cost of goods and services on the market.

“With such an improved performance, why are people not feeling it in their pockets? It may lead to an improved standard of living if this performance is maintained consistently over time. What it means is that with income levels remaining the same, people will be able to acquire more goods and services because prices will fall,” he noted.

He also cautioned that, for such progress to be sustained and widely felt, structural challenges must be addressed particularly in line with the cost of power and access to affordable capital for businesses.

“We must also pay attention to key factors that may affect the PPI, such as the cost of power or utilities, and also the cost of capital. The cost of capital is very high, and manufacturers are borrowing at high rates,” he added.

Ghana’s PPI has shown a steady decline in recent months, signaling some recovery momentum amid ongoing economic reforms.

By Kekeli K. Blamey

Ho (V/R), June 21, GNA – Brigadier General Emmanuel W. Ntem, the Commissioner General of the Ghana Boundary Commission, has led a high-level delegation to the Volta Region as part of efforts to assess and strengthen Ghana’s border management systems.

The visit included inspections of key border points, notably the Aflao Barrier and other critical locations along the country’s eastern frontier.

Respect party decisions, stop media rants – Adutwum’s campaign team

0

The campaign team of NPP Flagbearer aspirant, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has called for an end to public media discussions regarding the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) internal decision to select its flagbearer ahead of other party executives polls.

The NEC’s decision to prioritise the selection of a flagbearer has stirred debate within some sections of the party.

However, the Adutwum Camp insists that such matters are best addressed internally, in line with party procedures.

Speaking in an interview on The Big Issue on Saturday, June 21, 2025, Yaw Opoku Mensah, spokesperson for the Adutwum Campaign Team, expressed concern about what he described as unnecessary media commentary surrounding the National Executive Committee’s (NEC) approach to the party’s internal elections.

“Once there is another window that we can have the discussion on the approach to selecting the flagbearer and the other executives, I think the back and forth within the media space seeking to address what seems to be a family matter, will not inure to anybody’s benefit, and it doesn’t add up to the reputation of the party,” he said.

Mr. Opoku Mensah emphasised that the party’s unity and image should be preserved through internal dialogue rather than external debates.

“I think that we need to look at the issue as it has been brought to us, and if we have a difficulty, we can voice it out at Congress. But once the executives have taken a decision, it is a collective decision and that is binding on us. Once we are members of the party we swore to be part of, if a decision comes up, we have to embrace it and look at the modalities on how best we can use that in our interest,” he added.

Bono Ambulance Service appeals for more vans

By Christopher Tetteh

Sunyani, (Bono), June 21, GNA – Mr Alfred Kwabena Amoah, the Bono Regional Commander of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), has appealed for new vans to improve operational efficiencies of attending to emergencies.

He said the region had 14 vans, however five of them were grounded now due to engine faults, saying the region also required a permanent regional office.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Amoah called on the government and private organisations to come to their aid.

He said the region had 247 personnel, with 62 of them stationed at the regional office in Sunyani.

He said the service occupied only three offices which served as both the regional and Sunyani Municipal Offices and a Dispatch Centre.

Mr Amoah said the command had been able to procure an acre of land, and appealed for support towards constructing a befitting regional office.

He said: “A regional office and new vans will position the NAS well to attend to emergency situations effectively”, saying the old vans were procured in 2020 imputing high cost of regular maintenance on the service.

“In fact, our vans have a lifespan of only five years because of the nature of our job and we need public support”, Mr Amoah added, saying the Berekum East and Dormaa Central as well as the Sunyani Municipalities and Tain District required new vans.

Mr Amoah said the service in the region mostly attended to life-threatening conditions of accidents and cardiac attacks, saying the identified challenges impeded timely delivery of the service.

‘My pastor raped me at age 14, assaulted me during pregnancy’

Ghanaian TikToker, Sandra Yeboah (pictured) has recounted how she got pregnant at age 14 Ghanaian TikToker, Sandra Yeboah (pictured) has recounted how she got pregnant at age 14

Ghanaian TikToker, Sandra Yeboah has recounted the trauma she faced as a minor that has left a scar and made her question the existence of Christianity.

In an interview with Zionfelix shared on social media on June 20, 2025, Sandra Yeboah noted that a pastor she once stayed with at the age of 15, raped her.

Sandra explained that due to the traumatic incident that happened during her childhood, she has since been skeptical about Christianity.

“I remember at the age of 14 years I once fell sick and a pastor came to tell my mother that it was a spiritual attack therefore, she should make me stay with him in the mission house… During my stay with the pastor, he raped me and told me not to inform my parents or he would kill me.

“I was scared so I couldn’t tell them the first time the incident happened. But it happened for the third time that was when I became pregnant. When I became pregnant he was the same person who warned me not to abort it,” she said.

Recounting further, she added that the pastor, whose identity she failed to reveal, also beat her after she got pregnant.

“When I became pregnant he forced me not to tell anyone. And my parents were also pressuring me to the point where they would beat me to disclose the man behind the pregnancy.

“It got to a point where my parents would invite him over to question me. He sometimes beats me with a belt knowing very well he was the person behind it. And because he had forced me not to tell anyone, I will remain shut and receive the beatings,” she added.

Is OSP’s Ofori-Atta investigation a vendetta?

0

Ransford Gyampo is the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority Ransford Gyampo is the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority

The acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Prof Ransford Gyampo, has stated that he hopes the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng has no bone to pick with the embattled former Minister of Finance, Kenneth Ofori-Atta.

According to Prof Gyampo, if that inclination is a possibility, then it will not augur well for the reputation of Agyebeng.

Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints on June 21, 2025, Prof Gyampo questioned the handling of the case involving the former finance minister, while contributing to discussions on the topic on the OSP’s probe on the minister.

Prof Gyampo’s comment comes after some analysts have suggested that Agyebeng should explore other means to get the required information from Ofori-Atta instead of declaring him wanted.

“I hope the OSP is not motivated by vendetta?” he asked.

Chelsea win Ekitike race as Sterling buyer found

COMMENT: Chelsea still need incomings and outgoings to complete their ideal window.

Hugo Ekitike and Raheem Sterling could define the remainder of Chelsea’s window (Image: Getty)

The fact Chelsea have been active in the early stages of the transfer window should be no surprise by now. The Blues have played a volume game since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over from Roman Abramovich in 2022, which has comprised tonnes of signings and a high number of departures to balance the scales.

Chelsea have already completed the £30million signing of Liam Delap, and he is joined on the new arrivals list by fellow youngsters Estevao Willian, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez. With plenty of work still up ahead, Express Sport takes you through exactly what manager Enzo Maresca wants to hear next time he sits down with Boehly…

Chelsea win Hugo Ekitike race

With 15 goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga last season, Eintracht Frankfurt striker Ekitike is hot property. Manchester United – the club Ekitike supported as a youngster – are believed to have held talks over a move, while Liverpool are also eyeing him up for their centre-forward vacancy.

Despite welcoming Delap to Stamford Bridge less than three weeks ago and retaining the services of fellow striker Nicolas Jackson, Chelsea are another club credited with strong links to Ekitike. And news that the Blues have beaten the competition to secure his signature would be music to the ears of Maresca.

Enzo Maresca Chelsea

At present, the saga is still up in the air and Ekitike is still fair game. The 23-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on Friday, could be attainable for around £60m this summer despite claims earlier in the window about Frankfurt demanding £85m.

Raheem Sterling buyer found

With a wave of young, hungry arrivals comes the need to offload the dead wood. At 30 years old, and coming off the back of an unsuccessful loan stint with Arsenal, there is every indication that Sterling is now past his prime.

Couple that with the fact he is the second-highest earner in the squad behind captain Reece James, and it is clear that Chelsea find themselves in a sticky situation. Sterling has no future under Maresca but he still has two years to run on his contract.

Given his collapsing form and his hefty salary, another loan spell seems the likeliest outcome, unless Sterling is willing to take a pay cut. How sweet it would be, therefore, for Maresca to be informed that he could draw a line under the issue.

Premier League clubs have been tentatively linked with Sterling since the start of the window, but nothing concrete has come to fruition as yet.

98% of council members backed date for primaries – Miracles

0

Director of Communications for the 2024 Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has disclosed that an overwhelming 98% of members of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Council voted in favour of the January 31, 2026, presidential primaries date.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, June 21, he termed the level of support for the decision as proof of consensus within the party’s highest decision-making body, apart from the National Congress.

He criticised individuals who, after expressing minority opinions during internal deliberations, later take those dissenting views into the public domain.

“The National Council voted, and there was 98% in support of the decision. So when you finish, and you have a dissenting view, it is completely anti-party to bring that dissenting view into the public space.”

According to him, while disagreements are welcomed during internal discussions, continuing to project those views publicly after a final decision has been made only serves to sow confusion and undermine party unity.

“You may have that dissenting view, but it was expressed and discussed at the National Council meeting before a final decision was taken,” he stressed.

He continued: “Now, immediately you move that dissenting view into the media space, all you are doing is planting discord in the minds of people, knowing very well that this is a minority view.”

His remarks come in response to growing criticism from some elements within the party regarding the primary date. However, party leadership insists the decision was reached through due process.

Confirming the announcement earlier, General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Koduah, stated that the date for the primaries was proposed by the party’s constitution review committee and approved by the National Council.

He also clarified that the date will not be subject to a vote at the delegates’ conference, as the Council holds the constitutional mandate to finalise such decisions.

Top-down reforms unpopular among NPP grassroots – Palgrave Boakye-Danquah warns

0

Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, a communications team member for Kennedy Agyapong’s flagbearer campaign, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against what he describes as an unpopular top-down approach to internal party reforms.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, June 21, Dr. Boakye-Danquah disclosed that he had received numerous calls from grassroots members and party delegates who are dissatisfied with the current reform trajectory.

“In terms of my view of top to bottom, I have had a lot of calls from the grassroots of the party who are delegates, who have stated very clearly that this is a very unpopular decision,” he said.

He referenced the Mike Oquaye Committee report, which recommended a broadening of the party’s electoral college. According to Dr. Boakye-Danquah, if the resolutions of the committee are adopted at the upcoming Extraordinary Delegates Congress on July 19, then the reforms must allow former government appointees from the Kufuor and Akufo-Addo eras to participate in delegate voting.

“It will be key to ratify all those expansions—allowing former MMDCEs, former MPs, former CEOs, former Deputy CEOs, former Ministers, former Deputy Ministers… an opportunity to also vote,” he stated.

Dr. Boakye-Danquah warned that the current leadership’s preference for a swift, centralised decision-making process risks alienating the party’s base, especially with such limited time before the next internal elections.

“We don’t think that the top to bottom approach will be ideal because we have a very short time, and I think that it is important that they reconsider that decision,” he urged.

He also called for a full re-election of polling station executives to reflect the proposed expansion from five to seven officers per station, instead of simply adding two people to existing structures.

“There are supposed to be a key election of all polling station executives and not an addition of the already existing five and then you are adding two to it. Because then that will mean that you’re just keeping to the old album as it is,” Dr. Boakye-Danquah cautioned.

His comments come amid growing internal debate within the NPP over how best to reform the party structure ahead of the 2026 internal polls.

Dr. Boakye-Danquah’s concerns echoed those of former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, who had earlier cautioned the party against prioritising the flagbearer election over other critical internal contests. In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 18, Mr. Agyarko described the National Executive Committee’s (NEC) decision as “strategically unsound, politically indefensible, and organisationally reckless,” warning that such a move could destabilise the party’s internal cohesion.

“I have followed with keen interest—and deep concern—the outcome of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday, 17th June 2025, in Accra, where it was announced that the party will hold polling station executive elections on 6th December 2025, followed by the flagbearer election on 31st January 2026, while deferring elections for electoral area coordinators, constituency, regional, and national executives to dates yet to be announced,” the statement read.

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Justin Frimpong Koduah has confirmed that the party will hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.

This is after the National Council adopted a proposal from the constitution review committee.

However, Justin Frimpong Koduah clarified that the timing of the presidential primaries will not be subject to approval by the delegates conference, as the National Council has already exercised its mandate to approve it.

“The date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries. Because there is going to be a proposal or motion for amendment of our constitution, a planning committee has been put in place,” he said.

NPP’s early flagbearer election recipe for conflict and collapse

0

Francis Addai-Nimoh is a former flagbearer aspirant of the NPP Francis Addai-Nimoh is a former flagbearer aspirant of the NPP

Former flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Francis Addai-Nimoh, has condemned the party’s decision to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.

Speaking on UTV and monitored by GhanaWeb on Saturday, June 21, 2025, he expressed concern over the timing of the primaries, describing it as premature and potentially destabilising.

According to him, the party’s constitution stipulates that when in opposition, a flagbearer should be elected no later than four months before the next general election.

“This gives us the entire period from January to December to elect a flagbearer. In 2024, we selected our flagbearer on October 18, in line with the constitution,” he stated.

Addai-Nimoh argued that the new proposed date appears rushed and fails to account for key internal processes that must be completed.

The former Member of Parliament for Mampong further noted that the National Executive Committee (NEC) has announced that polling station executives will be elected in December.

“There are many things that need to be done. This appears to be a top-down approach, we still need to elect regional executives.

“Is this a top-down approach, a bottom-up approach, or a blend of both? This rushed process is a recipe for conflict and potential collapse,” he cautioned.

NPP has officially scheduled its presidential primaries for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

The announcement has set the stage for a decisive contest to elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

Early presidential primaries isn’t new to NPP – Osae-Kwapong

0

Dr John Osae-Kwapong, a Fellow at CDD-Ghana and Project Director of The Democracy Project, has downplayed suggestions that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to hold its presidential primaries on 31st January, 2026 is unprecedented, stating that the move is not new within the party.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, June 21, Dr Osae-Kwapong noted that the NPP has, in previous election cycles, set early dates to give its flagbearer sufficient time to prepare.

“It is not new. The NPP has done this before. In 2012, for example, the party elected its presidential candidate two years ahead of the election,” he pointed out.

The NPP announced the date following a National Executive Committee and National Council meeting held in Accra, explaining that the early primaries aim to give the flagbearer adequate time to engage the grassroots and unify the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

According to the approved schedule, nominations will open from 2 to 6 December 2025, with vetting to take place between 9 and 10 December.

Primaries in orphan constituencies begin in August 2025, while those with sitting MPs will be held in April 2026.

So far, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwe, has declared his intention to contest, making the announcement via Facebook on 18 June.

Former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong has also declared his bid, while former Vice-President and 2024 flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is widely expected to run again, enjoying support from several party MPs who in the course of the week, called on him to pledge support.

Woman drowns in abandoned galamsey pit at Anyaaso

A 45-year-old woman has reportedly lost her life after drowning in an abandoned galamsey pit at Anyaaso in the Bosomefreho District of the Ashanti Region.

According to adomonline.com report on June 20, 2025, the incident is believed to have occurred four days before the body was discovered in a decomposed state, partially submerged in mud.

The discovery has since caused widespread fear and distress among residents and commuters, many of whom are now calling on authorities to take immediate action to secure abandoned mining sites in the area.

The body was retrieved and buried due to its advanced state of decomposition.

Residents have established that the growing number of unsecured galamsey pits poses a serious threat to lives and have demanded a swift investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

They have also urged the government and local authorities to implement safety measures to prevent further tragedies.

“This is not the first time we’re seeing such a thing. These abandoned pits have become death traps. Something must be done”, one resident said.

The incident adds to the ongoing concerns about the environmental and safety hazards associated with illegal mining across parts of Ghana.

Airport City Kumasi project to bolster economic growth

0

By Florence Afriyie Mensah

Kumasi, June 21, GNA – Construction of a modern and sustainable airport city has begun in Kumasi, positioning the Ashanti Regional capital as Ghana’s future hub for aviation and luxury.

The Airport City Kumasi, situated on a 50-acre land, will house Ghana’s first smart and eco-friendly residential and recreational facilities to transform the city’s skyline.

The project, expected to be completed in two and half years, will boost economic activities and foster convenience for visitors both home and abroad.

The first phase of the project will comprise suites of one to three-bedroom apartments, sky suites and penthouses, offering residents the convenience of connecting to any part of the world from the comfort of their homes.

Mr. Stephen Owusu, Founder, HDG Homes, developers of the Airport City Kumasi, at a sod-cutting ceremony, explained that the project was a modern smart sustainable city that would rival most of the top developments within Africa.

It will be partitioned into Kensington Heights – a luxury apartments, Greenwich – a luxury residential home, Best Western Premier Hotel – a five star hotel, and Cinnamon, a Grade A office complex to redefine the living experience in Kumasi and accelerate economic growth in the Ashanti Region.

Mr. Owusu believed it was the right time to build such a city in the heart of Ghana, adding that the vision was to create a city with well-constructed roads, pavements, underground gutters and bike lanes.

The project also comes with a lot of greenery meant to recreate the glory days of Kumasi as the “garden city.”

Professor Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene, Otumfuo’s Hiahene, commended the private investors for coming on board for the project, adding that modernizing the city is a step in the right direction.

He observed that it is the most ambitious private-sector led project designed to make consequential impacts in Kumasi.

The Hiahene called on African entrepreneurs to step forward and be prepared to take the risks of investing in sustainable developments to position the continent to compete on the global market.

Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, commenting on the ongoing infrastructural transformation, observed that the government was keen on housing and city beautification.

He noted that Ghana faced a housing deficit of almost 1.8 million, with the Ashanti region accounting for 5.4 per cent.

According to him, the lack of adequate and conducive housing negatively impacted several sectors, including education, sanitation, city beautification and public health.

‘They kept urging me to back down’ – South Dayi MP on holding Akufo-Addo’s government accountable

Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has revealed that he was contacted several times by government officials during the Akufo-Addo administration and urged to back down because he was holding them accountable.

Citing one instance, he disclosed that he came under direct pressure after initiating legal action to challenge the procurement process of the Agenda 111 hospital project.

Speaking in an interview on Starr FM, Thursday, June 19, 2025, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, claimed government representatives repeatedly contacted him, urging him to withdraw his suit, which he filed over what he described as irregularities in awarding a design contract to renowned architect David Adjaye for a fee of $600,000.

“We were here, and we were told that the government had given the design contract of Agenda 111 to Adjaye for $600,000 at the time they were designing the hospitals. Then we realized that they had already procured contractors to go and build the hospitals,” Dafeamekpor stated.

Concerned about a possible breach of procurement laws—particularly since the Agenda 111 initiative was being supported under a World Bank framework—Dafeamekpor took legal action to challenge the process.

“I sued, challenging the procurement process because it was a World Bank project. I think I issued the action early enough that the World Bank office picked up the matter, reviewed the writ, and saw great merit in it,” he disclosed. “I was told they advised that they couldn’t proceed until the matter was resolved.”

Despite standing on solid legal grounds, the MP said he ultimately chose not to pursue the case to its full extent, citing the potential negative consequences for his constituents and other districts in the Volta Region that were set to benefit from the Agenda 111 project.

“One [hospital project] came to my constituency. There were seven districts in the Volta Region that didn’t have district hospitals, and they were all going to benefit,” he explained. “If I persisted, these projects would stall, and my people, along with others, would lose this opportunity.”

Dafeamekpor acknowledged that although a judicial victory was likely, the practical impact might have been counterproductive.

“The monies had already been paid. Even if my declaration succeeded and the process was reversed and re-awarded, Adjaye would still likely be given the contract again. So yes, there would have been a legal win—but to what end?”

The South Dayi legislator said the situation placed him in a moral dilemma, especially during the COVID-19 crisis, when the government was under pressure to rapidly expand healthcare infrastructure.

“At that time, the projects were being rolled out as part of the response to the challenges we faced with COVID, and you don’t want to come across as the single act—just you—that threw the whole country’s infrastructure plans into disarray,” he said. “So I weighed the options and allowed my individual aspiration to give way.”

AfCFTA rallies support in Ghana for Intra-African Trade Fair 2025

Wamkele Mene is the Secretary-General of AfCFTA Wamkele Mene is the Secretary-General of AfCFTA

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC) and the AfCFTA Secretariat have held the 2025 IATF (Intra-African Trade Fair) Ghana High-Level Roadshow as part of a series of events ahead of the 2025 IATF to be held in Algiers, Algeria, from September 4-10, 2025.

The IATF (Intra-African Trade Fair) 2025 Ghana High-Level Roadshow is a key event aimed at boosting intra-African trade and investment, particularly within the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The roadshow is part of a series of events by the organizers to galvanize interest for the IATF2025 which serves as a platform for businesses, investors, and other stakeholders to connect, share information, and explore opportunities within the African market.

In his address at the Ghana High-Level Roadshow of the 2025 IATF, the Secretary General of the AfCFTA, Wamkele Mene expressed joy that all roads will be leading to Algiers, Algeria this September for the fourth edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2025), which is Africa’s premier trade and investment event offering an unparalleled platform for the exchange of trade and investment information stating that it is a marketplace of ideas, opportunities, and partnerships.

“As we work to scale up intra-African trade, build regional value chains, and accelerate industrialisation, the IATF serves as a key platform for connecting African businesses, investors, governments, and innovators. It is a catalyst for turning the promise of the AfCFTA into concrete outcomes: trade deals signed, investments mobilised, and jobs created,” he stated.

The Secretary General explained that the IATF2025 matter so profoundly to the Secretariat because, Africa’s path to genuine and inclusive prosperity depends on stronger trade performance as a fundamental prerequisite for lifting Africans out of poverty.

But, for too long, Africa’s share of world trade has stagnated at just around 3%. While other regions trade extensively within themselves, Europe at 70%, Asia at 60%, North America at 40%, intra-African trade accounts for just about 15%.

However, this figure likely understates the true scale of Africa’s internal trade, given the prevalence of informal cross-border activity, data gaps, and the limited capture of trade in services. But H.E. Wamkele Mene explained that more importantly, the AfCFTA Secretariat is driving a decisive shift in Africa’s economic destiny.

“Historically, our trade has often been extractive, sending raw materials abroad only to re-import finished goods. The AfCFTA is fundamentally changing this paradigm. By dismantling trade barriers, reducing tariffs and eliminating non-tariff barriers, and fostering production networks, we are incentivizing industries to specialize, process, and add value on the continent. This means more intermediate goods and finished products moving across African borders, fostering economies of scale and diversifying our economies away from volatile commodity dependence” he explained.

He added that the Secretariat is actively working to attract cross-border investments into key sectors like agro-processing, mining, energy, and manufacturing, to ensure higher value addition within Africa.

He stressed that standardization of regulations and customs processes are essential, strengthening RVCs by ensuring seamless compliance and the AfCFTA places high priority on building and strengthening robust regional infrastructure and connectivity, which will significantly reduce transportation costs.

He also emphasized that IATF2025 is where the secretariat’s vision is translated into practical reality as it is the direct marketplace for this dynamic interaction. And at IATF2025, the AfCFTA Secretariat will also be present with its dedicated pavilion, showcasing the significant achievements of the Agreement so far.

The AfCFTA Secretary General urged Ghanaians and Africans to work together to make IATF2025 the most successful edition yet as the future of African trade is unfolding and happening now.

Hearts of Oak and Nations FC in tug-of-war over Golden Kick midfield sensation Bless Ege

0

Accra Hearts of Oak are locked in a transfer battle with Nations FC for the signature of Bless Ege, the talented midfielder who made headlines with his standout performances for Golden Kick SC in the recently concluded 2024/25 season.

Ege, who first rose through the ranks at Tudu Mighty Jets, is one of the most sought-after young prospects in the Ghanaian game following his impressive showing in the MTN FA Cup final, where he scored a stunning free-kick against Asante Kotoko. His ability to dictate play and deliver from set-pieces has put him on the radar of top-tier clubs.

Sources reveal that both Hearts of Oak and Nations FC have opened talks with the player’s representatives, with the Phobians currently slightly ahead in negotiations. Discussions are believed to be at an advanced stage, and a decision on his future is expected before Monday, pending agreement on personal terms and a final transfer fee.

The 20-year-old’s potential addition would be a major coup for Hearts of Oak, who are restructuring their squad under new head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani. However, Nations FC, who are also strengthening for their CAF Champions League debut, remain keen on luring the midfielder to Abrankese.

Golden Kick, for their part, are weighing up whether to cash in on their prized asset or retain him for another season. With interest mounting, the coming days will be crucial in determining where Bless Ege lands next.
