‘No Ghanaian asks a doctor’s religion at the hospital’ – Kofi Tonto ‘fires’ Stephen Amoah

Kofi Tonto is an aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia Kofi Tonto is an aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

An aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kofi Tonto, has criticised the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, for supposedly injecting religion into Ghana’s political discourse.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Kofi Tonto expressed deep concern over recent comments made by Dr Amoah, a known ally of Kennedy Agyapong, who suggested that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) poor performance in the 2024 elections was partly due to Dr Bawumia’s Islamic background.

Tonto condemned the remarks as divisive and irresponsible, warning against the dangers of religious politics in Ghana’s democracy.

“No Ghanaian goes to the hospital and asks for the religious background of the doctor before treatment,” he said. “What matters is competence, and the same standard should apply to our leaders.”

He further emphasised that Dr Amoah, as a legislator, should know better and act in a manner that promotes national unity rather than religious division.

“Religious identity should never be a disqualifying factor in politics. It’s dangerous and unnecessary to bring faith into the debate about who should lead this country,” Tonto added.

Tonto argued that track record and competence, not faith, should be the focus of political discourse.

‘We’ll block our roads if works don’t resume by October ‘– Sipim Narh Tekpertey

Road users in Yilo Krobo are battling the inconveniences of the abandoned rehabilitation works Road users in Yilo Krobo are battling the inconveniences of the abandoned rehabilitation works

Correspondence from Eastern Region

Road users in the Yilo Krobo and Lower Manya Krobo Municipalities of the Eastern Region are grappling with the inconveniences caused by the abandoned rehabilitation works on the Trom-Somanya-Kpong and Somanya-Asitey roads, stirring tensions among residents and motorists.

The stalled road projects have drawn widespread concern, including from traditional leaders who have openly voiced their displeasure over the six-month delay since the current government assumed office.

Sipim Narh Tekpertey II of Manya-Aklomuase in the Manya Krobo Traditional Area has joined the chorus of calls for the resumption of works on the road. He warned that failure to resume construction could prompt residents to embark on a demonstration to press home their demands.

Addressing the media, the frustrated traditional leader criticized the deteriorating condition of the roads and issued a stern warning that, if work does not resume immediately, the stretch will be rendered impassable—especially for limestone-hauling trucks.

“We’re giving them up to October, which is our festival month. If they fail to resume work on our roads, the government will not be happy with our actions. We will block all limestone-hauling trucks from using the road, and then they will understand how angry we are,” he declared.

The road serves as a key route for limestone-hauling trucks from nearby Odugblase and other mines, which Sipim Tekpertey blames for accelerating the deterioration of the roads in the area.

He emphasized that the Krobo constituencies—Yilo Krobo, Lower Manya Krobo, and Upper Manya Krobo—have consistently supported the NDC, delivering strong numbers in recent and past elections. According to him, the people deserve to benefit from national development projects.

Notable Krobo appointees in the Mahama administration include Seth Terkper, Policy Advisor to the President; COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Inspector General of Police; Rita Akosua Awatey, Eastern Regional Minister; Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, Deputy Interior Minister; Gideon Aryeequaye, Acting Executive Secretary of the Creative Arts Council; and Nathaniel Tetteh, Director of the National Service Authority – Eastern Region.

Sipim Tekpertey urged chiefs, youth, and road users to demand accountability from their leaders.

Meanwhile, contractors on the Somanya-Kpong and Somanya-Asitey roads have attributed the stalled work to a lack of government funding.

Billy Brigham Deku, Project Manager at Generals Construction Limited, which is handling the two projects, cited the unavailability of funds from the government as the main reason for the delay. He noted that the company has pre-financed the projects so far, but all efforts to secure payments from both past and present administrations have proven futile.

Deku added that the company is also working on other roads in the Eastern Region, including the Mamfe-Larteh, Tafo-Kukurantumi, and Adeiso-Kasoa roads, which are also suffering from a lack of funding.

Rehabilitation of the 11-kilometre Somanya Roundabout-Kpong road began in June 2024 and was expected to be completed within two and a half years. However, contractors warned that ongoing funding delays could derail the work schedule, prolong the completion timeline, and continue to cause hardship for commuters and residents.

Residents and shop owners have expressed concerns about health hazards caused by the excessive dust generated by the stalled construction. Commuters also lament the inconvenience and health risks associated with the situation, which has forced many drivers to avoid the road altogether.

Affected residents have appealed to the government to release the necessary funds to enable the contractors to resume and expedite the work. They are also requesting regular watering of the road to reduce the dust while construction is ongoing.

The reconstruction of the 11-kilometre road became necessary due to its complete deterioration. Originally asphalted in 2016 at a cost of over GHS 30 million under the previous NDC administration, the road began to fail drastically just two years later, prompting the need for a full rehabilitation.

Electricity tariffs to go up by 2.45% from July 1

PURC to increase electricity bills from July 1, 2025 PURC to increase electricity bills from July 1, 2025

Starting next month, Ghanaians will have to pay extra for power and water as tariffs for both are set to go up from July 1, 2025.

This was contained in a statement from the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC).

Residential electricity users would experience a 2.45% rate increase, according to the commission.

The tariff adjustment, which applies to residential, non-residential, and special load tariff (SLT) customers, is based on a detailed analysis of macroeconomic and operational factors, including inflation, exchange rate fluctuations, and rising fuel costs.

The adjustment takes into account a projected average inflation rate of 20.67%, a Ghana Cedi to US Dollar exchange rate of GH¢10.3052, and an increase in the weighted average cost of gas (WACoG) to USD 7.7134/MMBtu.

“The Commission has carefully analysed the existing parameters and, considering the competitiveness of industries and the general living conditions of Ghanaians, has approved a 2.45% increase in electricity tariffs across board and 0% increment in water tariffs,” the statement noted.

The new tariffs become effective from July 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025.

Meanwhile, the PURC has confirmed that water tariffs will remain unchanged for the third quarter of 2025, maintaining a 0.00% adjustment rate.

You can be an old guy, but if you’re incompetent, you won’t win – Asah-Asante

0

Political Scientist, Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, says competence and a strong understanding of Ghana’s challenges—particularly economic ones—must be the deciding factors in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2026 presidential primaries, not popularity or experience alone.

Speaking on Joy FM’s , Dr. Asah-Asante dismissed arguments that a candidate’s longevity or familiarity in the political space gives them an automatic edge.

“You can be an old guy who has contested many times and is well known, but if you are incompetent, you are incompetent,” he stated. “If you don’t have the support of the people, you don’t have them.”

He was responding to arguments made by some within the Bawumia camp that it is easier to market a candidate who has already “tested the waters.”

Dr. Asah-Asante, however, countered that political success is not built on repetition, but on relevance, strategy, and credibility.

“What the people want is somebody with the knowledge, with the understanding of the economy and how it works—not any propagandist style of positioning,” he added. “We want people who are the real men and understand the real issues confronting this country.”

He acknowledged that the leading contenders—Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and Dr. Yaw Adutwum—all bring unique attributes to the race. However, he emphasized that it is their grasp of Ghana’s problems and ability to propose credible solutions that will determine who emerges victorious.

Dr. Asah-Asante also stated that records, strategy, and messaging that resonate with the electorate will be the major factors that “separate the chaff from the real input.”

The approval was granted through a voice vote, with the Majority side outnumbering their counterparts during a heated session that exposed sharp political divisions.

The seven confirmed judges are Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, Justice Philip Bright Mensah, Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo, Justice Hafisata Amaleboba, and Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei.

NPP primary delegates: ‘Gods’ of second chances?

0

A Good friend once said to me, “my father is not a God of second chances.”

I often think of that because there are people or situations we encounter in life where we may want a second chance to make it right.

I am sure we have all encountered people in our lives and on whose toes, we may have stepped, consciously or unconsciously, who vowed never to forgive us.

But I believe in the importance of showing grace and appreciating the power of redemption.

Does showing grace and offering redemption belong in the political realm as well?

Since the 2024 election and with the announcement of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2028 presidential primary slated for January 31, 2026, one of the many emerging conversations about Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy is the question of political grace and redemption.

The question is simply this: Should the party retain him or go with a different candidate for the 2028 election?

To borrow the words of my good friend — should the NPP delegates be “Gods” of second chances and re-elect him as flag bearer come January 31, 2026? In seven months, the delegates will make that decision.

NPP primary delegates

Let’s refresh our memories with the party’s historical record on selecting flag bearers for presidential elections. In 1992, their candidate (late Prof. Albert Adu Boahen) lost the election.

In the presidential primaries for the 1996 election, although the late Prof. Adu Boahen contested, he lost to former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

In my book “Notes from the Public Square: What Ghanaians Said and How They Felt About Kufuor’s Presidency”, I asked the former president about his experiences with primaries.

His essential point, as I understood it, was that primaries differ and the questions driving the internal contest that led to his loss in the 1992 primary were different from those that led to his victory as flag bearer for the 1996 and 2000 election.

Mr Kufuor lost the 1996 election but was re-elected flag bearer for the 2000 election which he won.

The party’s next competitive primary was electing a flag bearer for the 2008 election.

They did so by choosing former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who narrowly lost that election.

Party delegates, however, chose him again for two subsequent elections (2012 and 2016). In all three chances given him by the party, he lost twice and won once.

So, on the historical record, NPP primary delegates can be described as “Gods” of second chances as seen in how they treated Mr Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo.

Will precedent be followed?

But being “Gods” of second chances does not necessarily mean party delegates will repeat what happened in the case of Mr Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo.

In my estimation, there are three key things that I believe will play a role in shaping the decision of the delegates keeping in mind that the party has one singular goal — to return to power.

First, the slate of candidates in the race. Given the singular goal of winning and returning to power, delegates must confront this question “who is best positioned to help the party win the 2028 election?”

And here, the political pedigree of the candidates and their broad appeal beyond the party must be weighed carefully.

The base of the party alone is not enough to win any presidential candidate the general election. Mr Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo never stopped making the argument that despite their losses, they were still the best candidates to lead the party to victory. And that is what Dr Bawumia must never stop doing.

Second, is the answer to the question: Why did the party lose the 2024 election?

If delegates believe the candidate was the main reason, then the prospect of a second chance dwindles.

If they believe it was other factors other than the candidate, then the prospect brightens.

On this point, I am of firm conviction that the nature of the political winds blowing in 2024 was such that no candidate could have won the election for the NPP.

Check Ghanaian sentiments expressed in Afrobarometer Round 9(2022) and 10 (2024) and you will appreciate why I make this assertion.

Third, is the lifespan of the political liability of the party’s record in office that led to the 2024 loss.

If that record has a short lifespan and becomes less potent as time passes, then the prospect of a second chance brightens

It lightens the burden of dealing with being “tainted” by the record.

Alternatively, if that record has a long lifespan and continues to remain potent and easily weaponised even in an intraparty contest, then a second chance dims.

In the end, only one candidate will emerge as the winner.

The primary, undoubtedly, promises to be intensely competitive.

So, I ask again – will the party delegates be “Gods” of second chances?

Bryan Acheampong declares intent to contest NPP flagbearer

0

MEMBER of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has officially announced his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.

He made the declaration during a meeting with the leadership of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, where he sought their prayers and blessings ahead of the contest.

Addressing the media after the meeting on Tuesday, June 24, Dr Acheampong said his decision was influenced by an exploratory team that spent a month assessing the sentiments of delegates across the country.

According to him, the feedback indicated a strong desire for new leadership, one whose qualities, he believes, align with his own.

“…A decision has been made that I will contest when the party opens nominations, but to do that, as a product of the church, it will be a disappointment per my tradition, if the moderator of the church hears it for the first time on the radio.

“So, before the formal announcement is made, I thought it wise to inform the general council and the moderator of the presby church. Most importantly, I am here to also seek the blessings of God.” Citinwsroom

Former GRA boss, two others arrested over role in $500 million SML scandal

Rev Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah is a former Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority Rev Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah is a former Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has arrested former Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Rev Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, and two others for their supposed role in the SML scandal.

The OSP announced the arrest in a post shared on social media on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

The two other suspects are Isaac Crentsil, ex-Commissioner of Customs and now General Manager at SML (Strategic Mobilisation Limited), and Christian Tetteh Sottie, former Technical Advisor and now Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SML.

The office indicated that the arrest of the three men is in connection with its investigation into the SML scandal.

“The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has arrested Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, former Commissioner-General of the GRA; Isaac Crentsil, ex-Commissioner of Customs and now General Manager at SML; and Christian Tetteh Sottie, former Technical Advisor and now MD/CEO of SML.

“The arrests are linked to ongoing investigations into suspected corruption and corruption-related offences in respect of contracts between the GRA and SML for revenue assurance services. The probe also seeks to verify SML’s claims that its services have been saving the nation significant revenues,” part of the post reads.

It added that the three suspects were detained on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, after failing to meet their bail conditions.

Additionally, the list of suspects placed under arrest in connection with the SML case includes Evans Adusei, the CEO of SML; Philip Mensah, former Deputy Commissioner of Legal at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and currently a legal consultant to SML; Joseph Kuruk and Faustina Adjorkor, both staff members of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA); and Kofi Nti, the former Commissioner General of the GRA.

The SML scandal is one of the investigations in which former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta has been declared a suspect and a wanted fugitive.

The OSP has indicated that it is examining agreements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) concerning petroleum and mineral revenue oversight.

Under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government, SML was engaged by the GRA to provide real-time monitoring and audit services aimed at enhancing tax compliance and revenue assurance in the downstream petroleum sector.

In 2023, the scope of the contract was significantly expanded to include upstream petroleum activities and the mining sector, triggering heightened public scrutiny.

The government under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo eventually suspended the contract in 2024 following an audit by KPMG.

An amount of GH¢1.06 billion had already been paid to SML by the time the contract was suspended.

If allowed to proceed, the total cost to the state was projected to reach GH¢5.17 billion over five years.

In the wake of all these happenings, Civil Society Organisations mounted a strong response to the findings, with a coalition of five Non-Governmental Organisations filing a lawsuit against the previous government, seeking to recover GH¢1 billion already paid to SML.

Government to restrict importation of plastic straws, others

0

File photo of plastic straws File photo of plastic straws

The Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, has announced the government’s intention to restrict the importation of products such as plastic straws as part of efforts to transition toward a circular economy.

He noted that the government will promote more sustainable alternatives, including the production of bamboo straws, cassava-based packaging, and refillable containers, to help protect the environment.

Speaking at the Environmental Sustainability Summit held in Accra on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Dr Muhammed said all these measures are aimed at encouraging the use of local, eco-friendly alternatives.

“We aim to restrict products such as plastic straws while promoting local alternatives. These are some of the measures we are considering,” he said.

He added that, “Entrepreneurs are already producing sustainable alternatives like bamboo straws, cassava-based packaging, and refillable containers.”

Ghana’s plastic waste production has increased dramatically from 40,000 tonnes annually to over 1.1 million tonnes.

Of this, only 9% is recycled, while approximately 50% remains uncollected.

This has led to frequent blockages of drains and gutters, with large amounts of plastic waste ending up in rivers and other water bodies, contributing to both environmental and public health concerns.

Socrate Safo Slams NPP Over Kalsoume Sinare’s Appointment;Blakk Rasta Applauds K.Agyapong Leadership

News Hub Creator1h

Veteran filmmaker Socrate Safo did not hold back in a recent on-air discussion when he addressed the appointment of actress Kalsoume Sinare as Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain. Safo, a staunch supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), confessed to feeling envious of how the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has embraced creative professionals within its ranks. He highlighted what he sees as a marked difference in attitude: while the NDC has shown a willingness to empower artists and leverage their talents for national development, the NPP has, in his view, often treated creatives with condescension—overlooking their contributions simply because they lack traditional academic credentials .

Reflecting on Sinare’s diplomatic posting, Safo argued that recognizing and elevating individuals from the arts can enrich the country’s international representation. He lamented that under the NPP’s tenure, many gifted creatives were sidelined, not on the basis of competence, but due to a perceived deficit in formal qualifications. For Safo, Sinare’s appointment is a positive example of how political leadership can—and should—tap into the diverse skill sets of the creative community to strengthen Ghana’s global standing .

In a separate segment of the same interview, renowned reggae artiste and radio personality Blakk Rasta turned the spotlight to Kennedy Agyapong, praising the veteran MP for his entrepreneurial flair and political courage. Blakk Rasta lauded Agyapong’s “business mindset” as so exemplary that it ought to be taught in universities—an acknowledgment of the MP’s keen acumen in both commerce and public service. He held Agyapong up as a model of how political figures can combine grassroots advocacy with a pragmatic approach to national progress .

Together, these perspectives underscore an emerging trend in Ghanaian public discourse: the call for greater recognition of non-traditional talents and the celebration of leadership styles that fuse innovation with inclusivity. Safo’s critique speaks to the need for broader pathways to influence, while Blakk Rasta’s commendation reminds us that dynamic leadership can take many forms—from boardrooms to broadcast booths. As creative and political figures continue to intersect, their exchanges may well shape the future contours of Ghana’s cultural diplomacy and governance.

Bryan Acheampong calls on Moderator, Leadership of Presbyterian Council

0

Accra, June 25, GNA-The Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has called on the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, and the leadership of the Presbyterian Council at the Church’s national headquarters in Osu.

The high-level engagement formed part of Dr. Acheampong’s broader efforts to deepen dialogue with key institutions, affirming the importance of faith-based leadership in national development and governance.
The meeting offered a platform for spiritual fellowship, institutional conversation, and personal reflection on the values that have shaped his journey.

Addressing the Moderator and Council members, Dr. Acheampong acknowledged the historical contributions of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to education, health, ethics, and civic responsibility. He commended the Church for remaining a strong moral compass in national life.

“The Presbyterian Church has not only nurtured great minds through its schools and seminaries, but has also produced leaders of integrity across all sectors,” Dr. Acheampong said. “It is only right that we continue to engage and draw from the wisdom and values of the Church.”

He emphasized the need for continued collaboration between state actors and faith institutions, especially in matters of education reform, community development, youth mentorship, and character formation.

The visit was described by the Church leadership as a welcome gesture — one that demonstrates humility, responsibility, and an appreciation for spiritual accountability in public leadership.

In his personal reflections, the former Minister for Agriculture spoke with emotion about his roots in the Presbyterian Church and the formative influence it has had on his character and leadership style.

“I am a product of the Church — from infancy to now” he said. “From my earliest days at Mile 7 tolling the church bell with a car rim and crankshaft, to the spiritual mentorship I received from many revered leaders, I have always been grounded in Presbyterian values.”

He recalled his time at Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), Legon, describing it as one of the most defining periods of his life. The Moderator, in response, praised him for staying true to his foundation.

“We are proud that you’re a great product of PRESEC,” Rt. Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye remarked. “And we encourage you to continue allowing those values to shine through in your public and private life.”

The Church leadership concluded the meeting with a time of prayer and anointing, asking for God’s continued guidance and strength for Dr. Acheampong.
The Moderator offered words of encouragement, calling on the MP to be an example of principled leadership in an era of political cynicism.

“We bless you today and charge you to carry this responsibility with humility and reverence. May your decisions reflect the faith and discipline we stand for,” the Moderator prayed.

The act of anointing symbolized not only a spiritual blessing, but also the Church’s expectation that leaders remain committed to values of justice, peace, and service to humanity.

Dr. Acheampong’s visit comes at a time when public conversations around leadership and values are gaining renewed attention, particularly as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares for internal party transitions and long-term national planning.

The MP maintained that faith and public service were not mutually exclusive — and that moral leadership was essential for national development.

“Whatever role I play — as an MP, as a servant of the people — I carry with me the teachings, discipline, and truth instilled in me by this Church,” he said.

The meeting between Dr. Acheampong and the Presbyterian Council was not a campaign stop, but a symbolic return to the foundation upon which his leadership has been built.

Let’s leverage parliamentary friendship associations to deepen international diplomacy

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has urged the Management Committee of the Parliamentary Friendship Association to foster strategic diplomacy, promote peace, expand trade, and encourage cultural exchanges with sister parliamentary associations across the world.

He, therefore, called on the Management Committee to develop comprehensive guidelines for its engagements and activities, and to promote innovation and strategic partnerships.

Mr. Bagbin gave the advice at Parliament House in Accra on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Management Committee of the Parliamentary Friendship Association of the Ninth Parliament.

He said the inauguration of the Association would usher in a new chapter in international diplomacy, and thus urged members to work with integrity, purpose, transparency, and accountability.

“This is why the inauguration of this Management Committee is so critical. It must not only exist in name but must be driven by action and focused on results,” he advised.

Mr. Bagbin charged the Association to make concerted efforts to exchange experiences and ideas with sister associations to foster renewed hope and peace across the world.

He encouraged the Association to sign memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with their counterparts globally in key thematic areas such as trade, technology, cultural exchange, education, and sustainable development.

He also underscored the need for the Management Committee to include independent and female legislators in its composition, noting that with the right leadership, international diplomacy would be strengthened to the benefit of all Ghanaians.

Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan, Chairman of the Management Committee and Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, described the Committee as an important management structure and pledged to work assiduously to ensure it functions effectively and achieves its goals.

“It will take its oversight responsibilities seriously to bring renewed hope to the governance of the Association’s cooperation,” he assured.

Maher Kheir, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, pledged to work collaboratively with Ghana’s Parliamentary Friendship Association to promote cooperation and integration among sister associations across the country.

Mahama Ayariga, Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, said national parliamentary friendship associations serve as critical avenues for parliamentarians to network and address challenges faced by sister parliaments across the world.

He added that parliamentarians could also leverage their relationships with sister associations to contest for international positions.

Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, who represented the Minority Leader, said that in view of complex global challenges, it was crucial to leverage national parliamentary friendship associations to build bridges and deepen interaction and diplomacy among parliamentarians globally.

Kojo Emmanuel(Obolo) Breaks Silence After Release in Yaa Baby Shooting Case

0

Kojo Emmanuel, one of the two men arrested alongside popular Snapchat influencer GH Kobby in connection with the shooting of Philipa Frimpong, also known as Yaa Baby, has spoken publicly following his release from police custody.

Emmanuel, who is also known by aliases such as Kojo Diamond and Obolo, was discharged earlier today by the Yeji Magistrate Court after spending two weeks in custody. His release, along with that of another co-accused, Michael Kabutey, came after authorities reportedly found no direct evidence tying them to the incident.

The shooting occurred on June 10, 2025, in Seker, a suburb of Yeji in the Bono East Region. According to police reports, GH Kobby allegedly mishandled a firearm, resulting in the fatal shooting of Yaa Baby, a young woman widely known on social media. The incident shocked many across the country and drew widespread media attention.

Shortly after his release, Kojo Emmanuel appeared at the Yeji police station, where he addressed curious onlookers and engaged with followers via TikTok Live. He appeared upbeat and relieved, telling viewers he was recovering from an eye condition that had worsened while in detention.

“I’m feeling much better now,” he said in a brief interaction during the livestream. “My eyes gave me some trouble, but by God’s grace, I’m doing okay.”

He was later seen in high spirits, chatting with friends who had come to pick him up. The scene outside the police station was lively, with supporters expressing joy over his freedom after weeks of tension and online speculation.

During his time in custody, a number of TikTok influencers and social media users launched a solidarity campaign, calling for fair treatment and a swift investigation into his role—or lack thereof—in the tragic incident. Many had argued that Kojo Emmanuel was merely present during the event and had no active involvement.

Trump is facing heat from all sides, but his fateful Iran decision is one only he can make

CNN —

President Donald Trump is under opposing pressure from inside Israel and his own MAGA base as he ponders the most fateful national security decision of either of his presidencies — whether to attempt a killer blow against Iran’s nuclear program.

Israel is sending clear signals, including through former senior officials, that it hopes the US will ultimately join the conflict and use its unique military edge to destroy the Iranian nuclear complex at Fordow, which is buried deep underground.

Pant Dress for Men: A Blend of Style, Comfort, and Versatility

0

In the ever-evolving world of fashion, men’s clothing has gradually embraced more refined and versatile styles, with the “pant dress” for men standing out as a prominent example. Often referred to as a “pantsuit” or “dress pants outfit,” this style is not just a staple for formal occasions but has also found its place in casual and semi-formal wardrobes. The pant dress combines a tailored pair of pants with a complementary upper garment—usually a shirt, blazer, or jacket—designed to provide both sophistication and comfort.

Traditionally associated with office attire and formal events, the modern pant dress has evolved significantly in both cut and fabric. Contemporary designers have reimagined this outfit using lightweight materials such as linen, cotton blends, and stretch fabrics, making it suitable for a wider range of climates and occasions. Slim-fit trousers paired with structured or relaxed blazers are now commonly seen not just in boardrooms but also at weddings, evening parties, and social gatherings.

One of the key advantages of the pant dress is its adaptability. By simply changing the shirt or adding accessories such as a tie, pocket square, or stylish shoes, the same set of pants can be worn in various ways. For a more relaxed look, men can pair their dress pants with a turtleneck or casual shirt, while a crisp white shirt and tailored blazer can elevate the outfit to a more polished level.

Color also plays a crucial role in the modern pant dress ensemble. While classic hues like navy, charcoal, and black remain timeless choices, modern fashion trends encourage experimentation with earth tones, pastels, and even bold prints.

Ultimately, the pant dress for men embodies the perfect balance of tradition and innovation. It caters to those who seek a professional appearance without sacrificing personal style or comfort. As men continue to embrace fashion as a form of self-expression, the pant dress remains a reliable and fashionable choice across various settings.

OSP arrests former GRA Commissioner-General, two others

Rev Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Christian Tetteh Sottie and Isaac Crentsil have been arrested Rev Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Christian Tetteh Sottie and Isaac Crentsil have been arrested

Bryan Acheampong pays courtesy call on Moderator, Leadership of Presbyterian Council

0

The Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, paid a courtesy call on the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev.

“I am a product of the Church — from infancy to now,” he said.

The act of anointing symbolized not only a spiritual blessing but also the Church’s expectation that leaders remain committed to the values of justice, peace, and service to humanity.

Dr. Acheampong’s visit comes at a time when public conversations around leadership and values are gaining renewed attention, particularly as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares for internal party transitions and long-term national planning.

The MP has consistently maintained that faith and public service are not mutually exclusive, and that moral leadership is essential for national development.

It demonstrated how political leadership and spiritual mentorship can coexist.

Africa World Airlines is set for direct flights from Accra to Ouagadougou starting July 1 Africa World Airlines is set for direct flights from Accra to Ouagadougou starting July 1

Africa World Airlines (AWA) has launched its highly anticipated direct flight from Accra to Ouagadougou’s new Donsin International Airport. The event took place at Palms by Eagles, formerly Holiday Inn, at Airport City in Accra.

The Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Ghana, David Kabre, and the Vice President of AWA, Zhang Andy, attended the launch.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Kabre noted that this development would strengthen diplomatic ties between Ghana and Burkina Faso.

“Today, we celebrate West African unity. This development comes at a perfect time when our bilateral trade has reached US$22 million annually,” he said.

“Ghanaian businesses are making their mark in Burkina Faso, especially in the communication and construction sectors.” He added that the new flight route would make it easier for more Ghanaians to explore opportunities in Burkina Faso’s growing economy.

“Our mining sector goes beyond gold — it also includes zinc, manganese, and phosphate. Ghana’s technology and services would find a ready market in Burkina Faso,” he stated.

He emphasized the potential for educational collaboration, noting that universities in Burkina Faso could now more easily partner with their Ghanaian counterparts through student exchange programmes, joint projects, and academic collaborations — all made possible by Africa World Airlines (AWA).

“Professional exchanges in healthcare, engineering, education, and technology will be facilitated by this new route. Burkina Faso has much to learn from Ghana’s experience and much knowledge to share in return,” he said.

Kabre also took the opportunity to thank AWA Vice President Zhang Andy and highlighted the positive impact the new flight route would have on the transport communities of both countries. He noted that thousands of Burkinabé citizens living and working in Ghana contribute significantly to national development while maintaining strong ties to their homeland.

“This will help Burkinabé businessmen in Kumasi attend family celebrations without losing weeks of work or facing the risks of road travel,” he said. “The route will strengthen the human bonds that form the foundation of lasting international friendship.”

He further noted that Burkina Faso has been a strong advocate for African solutions to African challenges, particularly in promoting intra-African trade and economic transformation through the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

Ambassador Kabre expressed deep gratitude to Africa World Airlines for choosing Ouagadougou as a new destination. “This decision demonstrates confidence in our country’s potential and a commitment to West Africa.”

He concluded by saying, “This is not just the launch of a new route — it is a launch of friendship and partnership.”

He also extended his thanks to the Government of Ghana and to former President John Mahama for their continuous support of regional aviation and efforts to foster collaboration.

When I heard the news, I thought it was a joke, drivers were angry at us—Bawumia Drops Revelation

News Hub Creator12h

A report on Ghanaweb says that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 candidate for the New Patriotic Party and Ghana’s former vice president, has admitted that the NPP’s loss was due to big mistakes made by Nana Akufo-Addo as president.

In a speech in Takoradi as part of the NPP’s Western Regional Thank You tour, Bawumia pointed out two major setbacks: the National Cathedral project, which is having problems, and the sudden rise in fuel prices right before the polls. He said that both problems hurt the party’s reputation with the people in a big way.

Bawumia admitted that the National Cathedral, which had cost the government $58 million but wasn’t finished, became a source of anger among the people. “The anger over the Cathedral’s slow progress was real and hurtful,” he said.

He also said that the sudden increase in fuel prices, which happened only three days before the election, made people even less likely to vote, especially those who work in transportation. “I hoped it was fake news when I heard about the rise.” “Unfortunately, it wasn’t, and that made people even more angry,” he said.

After the loss, Bawumia revealed that a special committee led by Mike Oquaye has been set up to look into what went wrong and suggest a way forward for the party.

Ghana’s Parliament has approved all seven nominees to the Supreme Court put forward by President John Dramani Mahama, despite vocal objections from the Minority caucus.

The probe also seeks to verify SML’s claims that its services have been saving the nation significant revenues.

Their arrest comes amid growing scrutiny over the controversial SML deal, which has raised questions about possible financial misconduct and irregularities in contract execution.

Election is not about popularity; if you’re incompetent, you’re incompetent – UG lecturer

0

Political science lecturer at the University of Ghana Dr Kwame Asah-Asante Political science lecturer at the University of Ghana Dr Kwame Asah-Asante

Political science lecturer at the University of Ghana Dr Kwame Asah-Asante has cautioned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) must prioritize competence over popularity or long-standing visibility as it prepares for its 2026 presidential primaries.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM on June 24, 2025, Dr Asah-Asante argued that the ability to understand and address Ghana’s economic challenges should be the defining trait of the party’s next flagbearer, not how often a candidate has contested or how well-known they are.

“You can be an old guy who has contested many times and is well known, but if you are incompetent, you are incompetent, if you don’t have the support of the people, you don’t have them, myjoyonline.com quoted him as saying.

His remarks were in response to assertions from some supporters of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who argue that candidates with prior exposure are easier to market to the electorate.

But Dr Asah-Asante dismissed such claims, insisting that electoral success should be grounded in substance, not name recognition.

“Political success is not built on repetition, but on relevance, strategy, and the ability to offer solutions. What the people want is someone who understands the economy not a propagandist with clever positioning,” he added.

According to him, the 2026 NPP presidential race which is expected to feature key contenders such as Dr Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, and Dr Yaw Adutwum will ultimately come down to which candidate can demonstrate a credible grasp of Ghana’s pressing issues and articulate a convincing path forward.

He emphasised that beyond individual appeal, what will determine the party’s next leader is a strong track record, effective communication, and strategic alignment with the needs and aspirations of Ghanaians.

“The records, the strategy, and the messaging that resonates with voters will separate the chaff from the real input,” he concluded.

Three Independent MPs Boost NPP’s Strength as They Join Majority Caucus

News Hub Creator10h

In a significant political development, three independent Members of Parliament—Kwame Asare Obeng (Gomoa Central), Ohene Kwame Frimpong (Asante Akim North), and Stanley Yaw Nandaya (Wulensi)—have officially declared their intention to align with the Majority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament. The announcement strengthens the position of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the legislature.

Their decision to side with the Majority was made public during a parliamentary sitting this week and is expected to give the NPP a firmer grip on the House, particularly in passing contentious legislation and influencing parliamentary decisions. The three MPs cited shared development goals and national interest as key motivations behind their alignment.

Political analysts believe this move could be a game-changer for the NPP-led Majority, which has faced slim margins and intense debate since the current Parliament was inaugurated. With growing uncertainty around party loyalties, the addition of the three MPs may offer renewed momentum heading into the final months of the current legislative session.

The declaration has sparked discussions across political circles, with some praising the move as a practical step toward stable governance, while critics argue it undermines the very principle of political independence. Regardless, the trio’s decision is poised to shape the dynamics within Parliament as the country gears up for the next general elections.

‘Make him your flagbearer and you won’t even get 30% at the polls – Nigel Gaisie warns NPP over Ken Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong NPP's flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong NPP’s flagbearer hopeful

The Founder and leader of the Prophetic Hill Chapel, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, has warned the New Patriotic Party (NPP), cautioning that selecting Kennedy Agyapong as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections would lead to a devastating loss at the polls.

In a message posted on social media on June 25, 2025, the controversial preacher claimed that God had revealed to him that the NPP would suffer its “worst ever defeat” should it choose the outspoken former Assin Central MP to lead the party.

“Make a mistake and make Ken Agyapong your flagbearer and you won’t even get 30 percent; the Lord told me NPP will have the worst ever defeat if they try him. I saw a lot of maggots and flies around him, spiritually.”

Gaisie, who has been openly critical of Agyapong’s longstanding attacks on charismatic preachers and prophets in Ghana, accused him of endangering the lives of men of God through what he called “lies, attacks, and loose talk.”

“You can’t attack the churches of God and innocent prophets and expect to be flagbearer. Okay… we are waiting. God has spoken to us. We are waiting for the right time to speak and work. We will prove the power of God and the prophets,” he warned.

He claimed that several of his colleagues in ministry have died as a direct result of Kennedy Agyapong’s attack on them.

“Some of my prophet friends have died because of your lies, attacks, and loose talk. We are watching and waiting for the right time to strike.”

The prophet also described Agyapong as “an anti-Christ,” and warned the NPP that the Christian community and prophets across Ghana are spiritually prepared to resist his candidacy.

“We have covenants with God, and it will be provoked. Ghana belongs to God. The prophets and the churches are waiting for him.”

Acting Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong Acting Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong

The Ghana Revenue Authority will soon launch a new initiative to target micro and small businesses to file their taxes in a flexible and simplified manner through-out the country.

The move is aimed at widening the tax net and ensuring some domestic revenue loopholes are sealed.

Acting Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong disclosed this to Joybusiness after engaging executives and selected members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association, GUTA in Accra.

He also assured that the GRA will institute a quarterly engagement with businesses to enhance tax education.

“For GRA, as tax administrators, we mobilize revenue for national development therefore we see businesses as one of the core partners that we deliver on our mandate.

If businesses grow and thrive and are supported, we believe that they will make the necessary profit and we can also collect our taxes so in this respect, GUTA is a big stakeholder in our partnership hence the need to meet some of the executives to explain to them on some of the tax measures” he said.

The initiative known as the Modify Taxation Programme aims to provide a platform for micro businesses to be registered and file their taxes in a simplified way.

The Acting Commissioner General told joybusiness that the engagement with the Ghana Union of Traders Association, GUTA is part of processes to create a friendly customer service environment for both tax payers and the GRA.

“Actually the engagement has been very fruitful after we had the opportunity to explain to them some challenges faced in their tax filling process. We have agreed that we shall have a quarterly engagement with them so we can speak on some of their concerns.

Again we have mentioned processes we’re undertaking to widen the tax net and in this case a number of their members are not registered for taxes and at GRA we will soon be launching the modify taxation programme that allows us to register a number of small, micro and individual businesses and work with them to pay their taxes in a more convenient and simplified manner.

So today was the first engagement with them, we shall definitely move to the market to meet with the actual operators to explain to them so that it becomes easy when we launch it” he disclosed.

President of GUTA, Joseph Obeng expressed confidence that such engagements will boost confidence of businesses in supporting government to meet its revenue target.

The Commissioner General answered questions from members of GUTA and promised to further engage the finance Minister to find solutions to some of their concerns.

Okatakyie Afrifa Issues Stern Curse to Critics of Otumfuo’s Son Over Graduation Mockery

0

Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah has delivered a fiery condemnation of Ghanaians and social media users who mocked the son of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during his graduation ceremony from DPS International School. The young royal, Oheneba Nana Kwame Kyeretwie, appeared in celebratory videos where his calm and gentle demeanor became a point of ridicule on TikTok and other platforms, with many questioning his masculinity and royal conduct.

In response, Okatakyie Afrifa lashed out at the critics in a public video, labeling them as hypocrites and people with no understanding of royalty, grace, or personal dignity. He emphasized that the boy’s behavior was not unusual for someone raised in a refined, royal environment and insisted that it should not be mistaken for weakness.

Afrifa didn’t stop at defending the boy. He went further, issuing what many interpreted as a curse, stating that those who ridiculed Otumfuo’s son would never in their lives come into contact with the child of a wealthy man. This statement resonated deeply, as in Ghanaian tradition, words carry spiritual significance. Curses, especially from individuals seen as culturally grounded or spiritually aware, are believed to carry real consequences.

He expressed disappointment in how some Ghanaians quickly turn moments of pride and celebration into public mockery, especially when it concerns members of the royal family. He also questioned what exactly the critics expected from the young man—suggesting that their reaction was rooted in ignorance and misplaced resentment.

The incident has sparked widespread public discourse. Some support Afrifa’s boldness in defending royalty and calling out disrespect, while others think the use of a curse may have gone too far. Yet, his message remains a strong reminder of the reverence traditionally accorded to royals in Ghanaian society and the importance of restraint in public commentary.

“An Old Actor Who Was Disturbing Me For S€x Died On A Day We Were Supposed To Make A Movie”

Popular Nollywood actress and comedian, Kemi Ikuseedun, widely known by her stage name Mummy-Wa, has made a startling revelation about her personal experience with sexual harassment in the Nigerian movie industry. During a recent interview on the TTM Show TV YouTube channel, the actress shared a chilling incident involving an older actor who persistently pressured her for a sexual relationship.

Mummy-Wa disclosed that the actor, whose name she deliberately withheld for sensitivity reasons, tragically passed away on the very day they were scheduled to film a movie together. According to her, the actor had been disturbing her over a period of time, persistently making advances in exchange for roles.

In her words:

“Having an affair with an actor to get movie roles doesn’t only happen to women, it happens to both men and women. This is something that has happened to me several times, but God always saves me. I’m not going to mention the name of the actor because it might be sensitive to a lot of people. An old actor who was disturbing me for sex died on a day we were supposed to make a movie.”

The actress, known for her iconic comedic role as “Mummy-Wa” in the Mr. Macaroni skit series, used the moment to shed light on the ongoing issue of sexual coercion in the entertainment industry. Her statement resonates with countless voices within Nollywood and beyond, who have spoken out in recent years about the systemic challenges actors face when pursuing roles—especially those who refuse to compromise their integrity.

She emphasized that such exploitation is not gender-specific, noting that both male and female actors are often subjected to uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous propositions under the guise of career advancement.

The clip of the interview, which has since gone viral, can be viewed from the 49-minute mark here, where the actress candidly recounts the disturbing experience.

Mummy-Wa’s courage in sharing her story is being praised by fans and fellow entertainers alike, sparking renewed calls for a safer, more professional environment within Nollywood—one that values talent and merit over exploitation.

The Founder and Leader of Prophetic Hill Chapel, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, has launched a spiritual attack on New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, accusing him of endangering the lives of prophets and disrespecting the church.

In a statement shared on social media on June 23, 2025, Prophet Gaisie warned that the MP’s continued criticism of churches and men of God could have severe spiritual consequences for both him and the NPP as a party.

“You can’t attack the churches of God and innocent prophets and expect to be a flagbearer. Okay… we are waiting. God has spoken to us. We are waiting for the right time to speak and work. We will prove the power of God and the prophets,” Gaisie wrote.

He claimed that some prophets have died as a result of Kennedy Agyapong’s public attacks and “loose talk,” describing the outspoken former Assin Central MP as a spiritual threat.

“Some of my prophet friends have died because of your lies, attacks, and loose talks. We are watching and waiting for the right time to strike,” he stated.

The controversial prophet further alleged that Kennedy Agyapong is one of the key reasons why he and other religious leaders “fought the NPP with our all, spiritually and physically” during past elections.

Gaisie warned that if the NPP selects Kennedy Agyapong as its 2028 flagbearer, the party will suffer an unprecedented defeat.

“The NPP will not even get 30 percent at the polls nationally if they dare make that mistake. Ghana belongs to God. The prophets and the churches are waiting for him. We have covenants with God, and it will be provoked,” he wrote.

He went as far as labeling Agyapong “an anti-Christ” and warned his followers to expect a smear campaign.

“He will pay his robots to come and lie about me, so expect it,” he said.

According to Gaisie, he has received divine revelation that Kennedy Agyapong’s candidacy would spell doom for the ruling party.

“The Lord told me the NPP will have their worst ever defeat if they try him. I saw a lot of maggots and flies around him, spiritually.”

It may be recalled that Kennedy Agyapong once launched a public crusade against certain pastors in the country, whom he described as fake. He openly criticised their conduct, and Prophet Nigel Gaisie was among those he accused, alleging that he was a fake prophet, a rapist, and involved in sexual misconduct with women.
