The main opposition party, Chadema, is boycotting the election, citing the need for electoral reforms, while ACT-Wazalendo\u2019s candidate, Luhaga Mpina, was disqualified over legal objections.<\/p>\nTensions have flared on Election Day, with protests erupting in parts of the country. Reports indicate that some demonstrators have destroyed polling stations, prompting security forces to tighten control in affected areas.<\/p>\nSeventeen candidates are contesting the presidency, including incumbent Samia Suluhu Hassan of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM). The main opposition party, Chadema, is boycotting the election, citing the need for electoral reforms, while ACT-Wazalendo\u2019s candidate, Luhaga Mpina, was disqualified over legal objections.<\/p>\nTensions have flared on Election Day, with protests erupting in parts of the country. Reports indicate that some demonstrators have destroyed polling stations, prompting security forces to tighten control in affected areas.<\/p>\nSeventeen candidates are contesting the presidency, including incumbent Samia Suluhu Hassan of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).
