{"id":375085,"date":"2025-07-09T23:21:47","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T23:21:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/ng\/2025\/07\/09\/inec-confirms-19-parties-to-contest-assures-credible-poll\/"},"modified":"2025-07-09T23:21:47","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T23:21:47","slug":"inec-confirms-19-parties-to-contest-assures-credible-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/ng\/2025\/07\/09\/inec-confirms-19-parties-to-contest-assures-credible-poll\/","title":{"rendered":"INEC Confirms 19 Parties To Contest, Assures Credible Poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 19 registered political parties will contest in the August 16 bye-election for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat in Oyo State.<\/p>\n<p>During a stakeholders\u2019 meeting in Ibadan on Wednesday, the Oyo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Adeniran Tella, revealed that of the 272,196 registered voters in the constituency, only 217,980 have collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be no additional PVC collection before the bye-election,\u201d he clarified, urging registered voters to check their status in advance.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<p>READ MORE:https:\/\/www.informationng.com\/2025\/07\/lagos-police-announce-restriction-of-movement-ahead-of-lg-poll.html<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Tella confirmed that \u201cnon-sensitive materials are already in our custody, and the BVAS machines are currently being activated,\u201d to ensure proper voter accreditation. He assured stakeholders that sensitive materials would be delivered on time.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed INEC\u2019s dedication to transparency and inclusivity, saying, \u201cWe are committed to conducting a credible election. We call on all political actors and supporters to cooperate and maintain peace throughout the process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bye-election was triggered by the passing of Rep. Olaide Akinremi on July 10, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Oyo, Adegbenro Fagbemi, appealed to INEC to maintain its neutrality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe charge INEC to be transparent and impartial.
