Keyamo: ‘If FG Can Afford N7T For Subsidy, How Can You Not Afford N1T For Education?’ – Oshiomhole

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, a former leader of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the APC’s nominee for senator for Edo North, claimed that he disagreed with Festus Keyamo, a former secretary of state for labour, who claimed that the federal government could not afford to provide ASUU 900 billion naira.

On an interview with Arise Tv news, the former governor of Edo State said that if the federal government could spend 7 trillion naira on subsidies, it should be able to invest at least one trillion naira on education. He made it clear that the Tinubu administration will proceed in a different manner.

It has become common knowledge among Nigerians, he continued, that the children of the wealthy attend school and observe the academic calendar. However, for a four-year study, students at public and federally funded universities must spend 7 and 6 years, respectively. What problems exist? It’s because the government can’t fulfil its responsibility.

The most recent strike was extremely telling, and I saw Festus Keyamo, a former minister of state for labour, claim that the Federal Government couldn’t pay what Asuu was demanding because it would cost more than 900 billion naira. And I asked myself, “How can you not afford one trillion naira for education if FG can afford seven trillion naira for subsidies?” You must correctly set your priorities.
