Adekunle Was Shot In The Head Because He Wanted To Recover Opeyemi’s Stolen Iphone—Eyewitness Claims

An armed robbery incident in the Yaba area of Lagos State has resulted in the tragic death of a University of Lagos undergraduate, identified as Adekunle. Adekunle and his colleague, Opeyemi, were travelling from Yaba to UNILAG in a shuttle bus when a man hanging at the back of the bus snatched Opeyemi’s iPhone 7 Plus.

Disturbed by the theft, Opeyemi raised an alarm, prompting Adekunle to bravely chase after the robber, who had jumped off the bus in an attempt to escape. As Adekunle closed in on the suspect, another individual, suspected to be an accomplice of the robber, suddenly emerged and shot the 23-year-old student.

Eyewitnesses, speaking to Punch News on the condition of anonymity for security reasons, recounted the incident. The robber’s accomplice fired a close-range shot at Adekunle’s head, resulting in his immediate death. An ATM card found on Adekunle identified him by the name on the card.

According to an eyewitness, Opeyemi, who claimed to be a UNILAG Business Administration student, revealed that she and Adekunle boarded the shuttle bus from Yaba to UNILAG. A thief hanging at the back of the bus stole her iPhone 7 Plus during the trip.

Adekunle attempted to help by pursuing the thief, but a group of gunmen intervened, and one of them fatally shot Adekunle in the head.
