Flying Eagles crash to Brazil but qualify for Round of 16

By Kazeem Ugbodaga

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria crashed 0-2 to Brazil on Saturday in their final group game at the Under-20 World Cup in Argentina, but still qualified for the Round of 16.

Brazil, Italy and Nigeria got six points each, but the South American side topped Group D, followed by Italy, while Nigeria qualified as one of the best losers.

Brazil knew that they must win the match to qualify and they took the lead on 43 minutes.

The ball was swung into the box from the resulting corner kick and found Jean Pedroso, who jumped highest and tried his luck with a header from around the penalty spot. His effort was both strong and precise enough to go inside the left post.

Two minutes into first half added time, Brazil made it 2-0 against the Eagles. Marquinhos latched on to a perfect pass and fired an excellent low shot into the middle of the net.

Earlier, Sunday Jude latched on to an accurate pass inside the box and fired a bullet of a shot that crashed against the crossbar.

On 75 minutes, Rilwanu Sarki showed his willingness to get forward and blasted a shot towards goal. Unfortunately for him, the shot was not precise enough and hit the crossbar.
