A Member of the All Progressive Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Ayo Oyalowo has alleged that if the Obidients were familiar with the experience of 1993, they would be supporting the President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take over power from President Muhammadu Buhari on the 29th of May. He stated further that quite a number of Obidients believe that if an interim government takes over power, there will be an handover back to Mr. Peter Obi.Â
He disparaged this logic as he stated succinctly that an interim government is a direct invitation for the military to come back to office. He argued that the military system of government will suppress the free press in Nigeria. He asserted that the tyranny being seen on the Twitter spaces will no longer be in existence under the military rule. Mr. Oyalowo highlighted that it’s important for Nigerians to be well-informed about what happened in 1993 when the results of the election were annulled.Â
He said, ”We have been busier this week trying to work on the transition committee. The President just signed an executive order on transition now. We are trying to move on with Nigeria but the Obidients are inciting people everyday. I still listened to one of their meeting on Twitter space today, they are still going around saying they want their mandate back.Â
Obidients knew what happened in 1993, they will support Bola Tinubu to become President. If any of them is old enough to know what happened that year, they will not for any reason think about the Interim government. We know how many souls that we lost at that time, they are the ones saying Soldiers killed them in Lekki. They don’t know what Soldiers are capable of if they take over power. At that time, Bayo Onanuga was publishing in underground places, Sunday Dayo and others were selling newspapers at Petrol Stations. It was called Gorilla Journalism at that time. There was no freedom of speech.”
