The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has made a bold statement that nobody or any political cabal can relegate the South East to the background. Peter Obi speaking at the Tribute Session for the Late Chief Mbazulike Amaechi alleged that the late Chief was the first Minister of Aviation during the first republic in Nigeria. He stated that as an experience elite in Nigerian politics, he lectured him about the need for the Igbos to remain in the political arena no matter the circumstances.
Peter Obi argued that they are following that landmark and that as far as Nigeria is concerned, the South East will not be a slave to any tribe and neither will they lose interest in competing in the democratic process of the Nation.
He said, ”While I was governor of Anambra state, I happened to be very close to our dear father Mbazulike Amaechi. I take time to visit him from time to time. And he was one of those who will always tell me history of Nigeria. He has always believed that people from the South East should accept themselves and be part of the political process, no matter the cimstance and to live with it. He was a wonderful father and this is why for the rest of us we have to emulate the struggle and continue to maintain the fact that we are part of this enterprise called Nigeria. And nobody can relegate the Igbos to the background.”
