The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, has said the establishment of universities with the wrong template for funding is one of the factors responsible for the falling standard of tertiary education in the country.

He stated this while delivering a paper at the 14th Ralph Opara Memorial Lecture, tagged, “State of tertiary education in Nigeria: Identifying historical issues and misconceptions, contemplating solutions,” organised by the National Association of Seadogs, in Benin at the weekend.

The ASUU President also noted that the method of appointment and recruitment into state-owned universities by the government has also contributed to the problem.

Jaafar Jaafar from Kano State is the Editor-in-Chief of Daily Nigerian. He spoke to FRIDAY OLOKOR on the forces against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, among others

You recently disclosed that some people in the Presidency were working against the ambition of Bola to be President. Who are these?

You see, I only talked about the key prominent voices and the power Sabiu Tunde wields, we can say that he is the major element against Tinubu’s presidency. He is on the President’s side and has so much power in the Presidency such that he can influence so many things much more than anyone else. I believe (Governor Nasir) El-Rufai does not want to give so much importance to a ‘small boy’. That’s why he didn’t actually mention the name. Sani Zangon Daura, he’s very close to the President also as I have said in that tweet; he influences a lot of things also, but suddenly he was seen going about campaigning for Atiku Abubakar; I think he was even in Jigawa State a couple of weeks ago to campaign for Atiku. It was so open that he is not hiding his choice.

The Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation has said the entitlement mentality of the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, should be blamed for Nigeria’s current economic woes.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja, on Saturday.

He informed Nigerians that it was Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who set the stage for the national economic setback of our nation and must take responsibility for his actions.

Ologbondiyan said, “The Atiku/Okowa campaign recalls how Tinubu led a vicious anti-people campaign against the introduction of gradual removal of fuel subsidy which had accompanying palliatives that was cushioning the effects of subsidy on Nigerians.
