Former APC leader and secretary to the cabinet of the federation Babachir Lawal revealed the reactions of Katsina locals to the election literature he distributed to a Peter Obi supporter in the state.
In an interview with Channels TV, Lawal stated that he had sent t-shirts from the Obi-Datti campaign to a Labor Party member in Katsina, but that when the person went to pick up the package in a park, security insisted on looking inside.
When the package was opened and individuals discovered that it contained Obi-Datti T-Shirts, they allegedly pillaged it to make sure that everyone got a piece. According to Lawal, the individuals also informed the supporter they sent the present to that they wouldn’t submit to any pressure to support a particular presidential candidate based on their race or religion.
Lawal admits as much: “Two weeks ago, I sent some campaign literature to one of our supporters in Katsina. When the luggage arrived, the man went to retrieve it since the motor park security wanted to know what was inside. When they saw it contained Peter Obi/Datti T-shirts, they looted it and everyone took a piece of it.”
