Stop Punishing Lectures For Striking, Pay Us- ASUU,FUTO To FG

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) have urged the Federal Government to release the seven months’ unpaid salaries of its members.

ASUU urged the government to stop forthwith, the weaponization of hunger to whip Academics into submission and pay their withheld salaries spanning more than seven months.

Strikes all over the world are a legitimate tool to press home workers’ demands.

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Bola Tinubu, has promised to renew the hope of Nigerian youths with the creation of thousands of jobs if elected president of the country in the forthcoming general elections.

Tinubu gave the assurance on Thursday during the APC presidential campaign rally in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

Tinubu, who lamented the deplorable state of development in the state since 1999 to date under the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), said with what he has done in Lagos as governor, Bayelsa deserves the same.

Gov. Ikpeazu Signs Women Inheritance Bill Into Law In Abia

The Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has signed into law the bill that guarantees women’s right to inherit and own property in their father’s family.

The governor in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Onyebuchi Ememanka, on Wednesday, disclosed that the development was in “conformity with international best practice” and also intended to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women” in Abia State.

The law titled, “The Female Persons Right of Inheritance of Property Law 2022,” was sponsored by the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedu Orji and passed by the House on 16th November 2022.

NANS Plans Protest As Court Sends Aminu Adamu To Prison

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS has announced its readiness to embark on nationwide protest in a bid to demand the release of Aminu Adamu Mohammed who was arrested by security operatives over a tweet against the wife of the president, Aisha Buhari.

Recall that Aminu, a student of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, was last week, picked up by security operatives and whisked to Abuja over comments on Aisha’s weight.

He was arraigned on Tuesday before the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court No. 14 and was later remanded in prison.

Court Nullifies Abia APGA Gov Primary, Orders Fresh Election

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday nullified the All Progressives Grand Alliance governorship primary election held on May 29, 2022 and has given a 14-day ultimatum for a new primary election to be conducted.

Justice Binta Nyako, who presided over the case, gave the order following a suit filed by a governorship aspirant, Chief Chikwe Udensi, challenging the outcome of the primary election.

After losing the election to Professor Greg Ibe, a dissatisfied Udensi went to court.

Justice Nyako ruled that from evidence and testimonies of witnesses, the primary election the May 29 primary election was “flawed and marred with irregularities.”

Although, Udensi had urged the court to declare him the winner in place of Ibe, the court resorted to order for a fresh primary to be conducted.

Supporters Gather At APC Presidential Rally In Bayelsa

The presidential campaign train of the All Progressives Congress has arrived in Bayelsa State as the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu and vice presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima, are slated to campaign in the state on Thursday (today).

The venue of the campaign is Ox-bow Lake and a large crowd of supporters have already filled the arena ahead of the arrival of the presidential candidate, his running mate and other chieftains of the APC.
