The national chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Comrade Bishop Amakiri has blamed both the leaders and the followers for some of the problems facing the country.
Speaking in an interview with Rufai Oseni on VOP 90.3 fm, Bishop Amakiri who singled out the followers accused them of instigating corruption during campaigns.
“The problem we have in this country, the leadership have their problem, while the followership have their problem too.
Look at what is happening today, this issue of vote buying or vote trading. The man who buys and the man who sells his vote, they are trading something to the detriment of this country.
So while we continue to cast aspersions to hold our politicians responsible, we should also look inward the other way and also interrogate the followership. At what point do they decided to compromise our national integrity.
If you don’t have money, you cannot play a major role. No matter how ideological you are, no matter what you have, the truth of the matter is that anywhere you go campaigning, the people will be asking you, ‘wetin you bring come’ (what did you bring or have for us). That has been the question we’ve been battling with.”
