My Appointment As DG APC Presidential Campaign Not To Ridicule Christians, North Central ― Simon Lalong

Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, has stated that his appointment as the Director-General, All Progressive Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council is not about religion or an attempt to ridicule Christians and the North Central.

Lalong’s statement is comming on the heels of different calls on him to reject the appointment. One of those who made the call is a group within the APC christened “North Central APC Forum” which described it is an insult to the region.

Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, speaking on behalf of the forum in Jos, stated that they have been advocating for the zone to produce the country’s next president since last year because the time has come for the zone to do so in 2023.

He explained that their initial position was not to give up the 2023 presidency for any other position because, aside from the military era, the region has not actually produced either the president or the vice president since this democratic dispensation, but has greatly aided in the growth of democracy in the country.

We wanted to run North Central for President or Vice President in the 2023 elections, but we were rejected because they didn’t think we were qualified or experienced enough. But we instantly surpass everyone else when it comes to the position of director general of the presidential campaign.

Governor Lalong, however, claimed that his selection as the campaign director was a plus for Plateau State, particularly inside the ruling party, in a statement released and signed by his director of press affairs, Dr. Makut Simon Macham, following a stakeholders meeting.

He emphasized that people who were protesting his appointment on the grounds of their religion never supported the candidacy of Christians in the primary or supported the selection of a North Central as vice president.

“Some people who are yelling at the top of their voices never backed Christian contenders during the primaries and also ignored the North Central and potential vice presidential nominees from the zone and Plateau State out of selfishness,” he said.
