2023: Crises Threaten APC’s Victory In 20 States

The Crises in about 20 State Chapters of the All Progressive Congress (APC), have begun to threaten the victory of the party, ahead of the 2023 general election.

This was particularly because the Chairman of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, during an interview with BBC Hausa Service, said the APC lost the Osun governorship election, because some staunch members disagreed among themselves. He noted that the crisis in the Osun Chapter of the APC led to the party’s failure at the polls.

But like Osun State, the APC had been recording cases of misunderstanding between stalwarts in about 20 States. The States include Rivers, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Cross River, Kano, Gombe, Kwara, Kaduna, Bauchi, Zamfara, Nasarswa, Kebbi, Benue, Abia, and Ebonyi.

In Lagos State, some members of the party had kicked against the emergence of Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the governorship candidate. Aggrieved members alleged that APC leaders in Lagos, gave tickets to their favourite candidates, instead of conducting transparent primaries for the selection of candidates.

Even though a reconciliatory move was taken by the party in the State, reports revealed that it ended in deadlock. This was because some purported political thugs of the aggrieved faction of the party, stormed the venue of the meeting on Monday.

Similarly, reports revealed that the South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) had single-handedly been running the affairs of the Ekiti APC. Aggrieved members in this State alleged that the group constituted itself as the executive council of the party in the State. Reports revealed that some of these members had dumped the APC for other political parties. Those that did not leave the party, vowed to work against it in the coming election.

Similar cases in other states had also threatened the victory of the APC in 2023
