Keep Praying For Nigeria’s Peace — Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Sunday urged the Church to continue to pray for the peace and unity of Nigeria ahead of the 2023 general election.

Speaking at the re-dedication of the remodeled Methodist Cathedral of Unity in Abuja, Osinbajo, said that with God, the country would achieve victory over those he described as the “troublers” of the nation.

Singing a song titled, ‘We are grateful, oh Lord’, the vice president noted that the remodeled church building would aid the act of worship and strengthen the bond of brotherhood among the faithful.

2 Catholic Priests Abducted In Edo

Two Catholic priests, Rev. Father Udo of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Uromi, and Rev. Father Philemon Oboh of St. Joseph Retreat Centre, Ugboha in Edo State, were reportedly kidnapped on Saturday night.

They were abducted along the Benin-Auchi Road on their way back to Uromi in Esan South-East Local Government Area of the state. The incident has thrown the churches’ members into fear over the safety of their clergymen.

It was not clear if the gunmen had made any contact with the church or the families as of this time, Sunday evening.

When contacted, the Catholic Bishop of Uromi Diocese, Bishop Donatus Ogun, could not be reached but his aid said he was in a meeting.

Insecurity: Group defends Matawalle’s call for self-defence

A group, Arewa Development Forum for Peace and Justice, on Sunday rose from its meeting in Kaduna to declare its solidarity with Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle over his call on Nigerians to legally acquire firearms to defend themselves against incessant attacks by terrorists in the state.

Its Chairman, Alhaji Zubairu A Mustafa, faulted what he described as “the negative reactions” by some Nigerians over the suggestion of Zamfara State governor, bemoans “discouraging comment” by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, and other elites who were not sincere with realities of kidnapping, killings and attacks of the communities in the northwest region and other parts of the country by suspected bandits.

Again, Peter Obi cautions supporters against attacking dissenters

Labour Party presidential flag bearer, Peter Obi, has charged his supporters to be tolerant of others’ political views and learn from their opinions.

“I sincerely thank my supporters for believing in me and my commitment to building a united, secure and well-functioning Nigeria,” Mr Obi tweeted on Sunday. “However, I appeal once more that we should be tolerant of other people’s views, dissent and divergent opinions & possibly learn from them.”

Mr Obi’s admonition comes barely five weeks after he first appealed to his vociferous supporters to stop insulting his political opponents.

The former Anambra governor, a self-confessed austere politician, commands a large and energetic following amongst Nigerian youths who see his presidential presidential ambition as an opportunity to vent their rebellion against wasteful political establishments that have been accused of frittering away the country’s commonwealth.
