Safaricom’s Mpesa Advances to 5 More African Countries Despite Raila’s Call For Boycott

On Tuesday during a press conference, Azimio leader Raila Odinga asked his supporters to boycott products from several companies which he accused of conspiring with the Ruto-led administration. Among the companies mentioned was the Kenya’s main telecommunication , Safaricom.

Just a day after Odinga’s call, the launched the Mpesa Shared Service Operations Centre (SSOC) in Nairobi. The centre will be serving five African countries among them; Tanzania, Mozambique, DRC, Lesotho and Ghana. The occasion was overseen by the Safaricom CEO, Peter Ndegwa.

“SSOC will enable us to manage platform changes and upgrades, manage deployment of new features and capacity, and coordination with technical vendors. The shared service operations centre strengthens our position as Africa’s largest Fintech and digital ecosystem, bringing us closer to our vision of one Mpesa, providing one platform and unified operations across all our markets,” noted Safaricom after the launch.

Despite the call by the Azimio leaders, Safaricom seems to be advancing in a great way.
