Mr. Daniel Musyoka; the Embakasi East constituency’s returning officer for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has been reported missing.

The statement was made Friday night in the Bomas of Kenya during the presidential election results verification process by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

Mr. Chebukati reported that Mr. Musyoka vanished on Thursday at 9 a.m. while counting the presidential election results from the Embakasi East constituency at the city’s East Africa School of Aviation.

According to Mr. Chebukati, Mr. Musyoka reportedly left his home and was taken to the tallying center by his official bodyguard. Though, he left the tallying center to make a call and he never came back.

The commission received a report of the incident and informed the police. The National Returning Officer (NRO) for the presidential election; Mr. Chebukati, stated that his family was trying to locate him but was unable to do so.

The IEBC chairman continued by stating that the commission is profoundly worried about the situation and urges the investigative agencies to find the disappearance’s primary reason.

The reason for his disappearance is a subject for the police to investigate but Mr. Chebukati gave the assurance that everything is well and that Mr. Musyoka’s deputy has taken over his responsibilities.

After being gazetted as Constituency Returning Officers (CROs), the Commission’s Constituency Election Managers are required to report to the NRO in accordance with the Elections Act and its accompanying rules.
