Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has suffered a major blow after controversial blogger Madoka Kibet dumped Azimio La Umoja One Kenya and joined a party affiliated to President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza.

On Thursday, Kibet announced he has left Azimio and joined United Democratic Movement (UDM) which is led by Mandera Senator Ali Roba.

Taking to his Twitter account, the blogger said he looking for fresh ideas and opportunities and pledged to popularise UDM in the Rift Valley which is Ruto’s political ‘bedroom’.

“Every new party brings new perspectives, new ideas and new opportunities to make a positive impact in the world. Embrace the change and let your voice be heard upto the new chapter lets spread the new gospel @aliiroba UDM to rift valley here we go,” he posted.

Kibet was welcomed to UDM by party Secretary General Maxwel Munyendo who said they were looking forward for the blogger’s invaluable insights in their mission of making the political outfit a formidable one ahead of next election.

“The inimitable @MKMadoka_ has called on us at the @UDMKenya headquarters and agreed to unequivocally join our party and be an active member of the @UDMYouthCongres. Welcome on board…Your invaluable insights to the league will serve to propel us all forward,” Munyendo said.

Kibet has been a fierce defender of Raila and the opposition and his defection is surely a huge blow to Azimio coalition.

In 2022 polls, he was in Raila’s presidential secretariat and also served as Rift Valley youth coordinator at the ODM party.

UDM was an affiliate party in Azimio but a few days after the election Roba led at least two governors, two senators, seven Members of Parliament and 35 MCAs in joining the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

“We salute the United Democratic Movement (UDM) leadership for abandoning Azimio la Umoja and joining Kenya Kwanza,” Ruto in August when the welcomed defectors to his camp.
