Moving forward, we should be looking at how to ease the pressure on pay slips. We will do that by expanding the tax base,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Muriithi stated.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"632\" data-end=\"919\">He explained that\u00a0KRA is leveraging technology\u00a0to simplify tax collection, ensuring more businesses and individuals contribute fairly. He highlighted\u00a0Value Added Tax (VAT)\u00a0as a key area where technology is improving compliance, helping distribute the tax burden more equitably.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"921\" data-end=\"1122\">To support this initiative,\u00a0KRA has established a dedicated department\u00a0to streamline\u00a0taxpayer registration, making it easier for businesses and individuals to formalize their tax obligations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1124\" data-end=\"1417\">As part of its expansion strategy,\u00a0KRA plans to adjust VAT thresholds and use technology to identify businesses that should be paying VAT but are currently outside the system.\u00a0Muriithi emphasized that a simplified registration process will encourage more businesses to enter the tax net.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1419\" data-end=\"1582\">Additionally, he clarified that\u00a0Pay As You Earn (PAYE)\u00a0is an\u00a0individual tax obligation, while employers act as designated agents to collect and remit it.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1584\" data-end=\"1710\"><em>\u201cPAYE is the responsibility of the individual, while the employer is the designated agent for collection,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he explained.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1712\" data-end=\"1872\">Muriithi also revealed that\u00a0KRA is enhancing the electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS)\u00a0to make it\u00a0simpler and more efficient for taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1874\" data-end=\"1984\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><em>\u201cOur system should not be difficult to use, and we are improving it to make it more responsive,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)\u00a0has assured Kenyans that it is focused on reducing the financial strain on salaries rather than imposing additional deductions.
