Ichung’wah Under Fire For Remarks on Pastor Dorcas As Ruto’s Lawyer Asks Him To Apologize

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi, known for representing President William Ruto in several legal matters, has called out National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah over remarks he termed disrespectful towards Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the wife of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Ahmednasir condemned Ichung’wah’s comments, describing them as shameful and unacceptable. He insisted that Pastor Dorcas deserves respect, not just as a woman but also as a wife and mother. Ahmednasir demanded that Ichung’wah stop targeting her and offer a public apology.

The controversy started after Ichung’wah reportedly told a rally that Gachagua should be careful or risk losing his wife to a bishop. Many Kenyans saw the statement as a direct attack on Pastor Dorcas’s character and marriage. While some debated the exact meaning of his words, the comments sparked widespread outrage.

Pastor Dorcas is well known for championing boys’ rights and leading rehabilitation programs. To many, the remarks were an insult to a woman respected for her community work and dignity.

The row comes amid a bitter political rivalry between Ichung’wah and Gachagua. Since Gachagua’s impeachment in October 2024, the two leaders have traded accusations. Ichung’wah has blamed Gachagua for fueling unrest, even linking him to the June riots in Kikuyu.

Gachagua, in return, accuses Ichung’wah of working with President Ruto to sideline leaders from the Mt. Kenya region. Their political feud has now turned personal, drawing family members into the public spotlight.

Ahmednasir’s strong stance has added to growing calls for decency in politics. Many believe leaders should leave families out of their political battles. Pressure continues to mount for Ichung’wah to issue an apology.

This is not the first time Ichung’wah has been criticized over controversial remarks. In May, he apologized after comments in Nyandarua upset residents. However, he has yet to respond to this latest backlash.

As Kenya moves closer to the 2027 elections, this incident underscores the growing demand for leaders to maintain respect and avoid dragging personal matters into politics.
